The document summarizes key trends in higher education that professional schools should consider when planning facilities expansions or renovations. Growing enrollment in many fields and high returns on investment are driving more students to pursue professional degrees. Schools are responding by focusing on experiential learning, industry partnerships, sustainability, and hybrid/flexible learning models. When planning projects, schools should benchmark peers, right-size space needs, consider holistic strategies, and make the case for funding.
Following on from the success of last year, this annual event for London's architect community will have architectural innovation as a theme this year, and particularly CQRS. At the DDD eXchange we will feature leading thinkers and architects who will share their experience and Eric Evans is the programme lead.
Managing the Machine Learning Lifecycle with MLflowDatabricks
ML development brings many new complexities beyond the traditional software development lifecycle. MLflow is an open-source project from Databricks aiming to solve some of these challenges such as experiment tracking, reproducibility, model packaging, deployment, and governance, in order to manage and accelerate the lifecycle of your ML projects.
Getting Started with Architecture Decision RecordsMichael Keeling
Documenting architecture design decisions is commonly considered a good practice and yet many teams don't take the time to write down the decisions they make. In our experience this happens for a few reasons: documentation is rejected as being too heavyweight, documentation has little influence since it is typically out of sight and out of mind, and many developers don’t know what to document. Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) address many of these problems by capturing design decisions in a simple, lightweight templates that is stored close to repositories used by stakeholders -- often in the same repository as code affected by the ADR.
In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to write effective ADRs and how to overcome road bumps teams often experience when first getting started with ADRs. By the end of this session you will have the skills you need to champion ADRs and help your team start (or improve) your design decision log.
I claim that none of the commonly used embedding methods capture any semantics.
It's fine if you want to move from a symbolic to a numeric or geometric representation, but when you do, don't throw the semantic baby out with the symbolic bathwater.
I argue that a useful definition of semantics is "predictable inference". This makes it possible to have semantics outside a logical framework.
A methodological warning from 1976: don't fool yourself that wishful mnemonics in your knowledge graph are "semantics". Therefore, knowledge graphs without a schema/ontology is just a data graph, without much semantics.
Finally, a discussion of some embedding methods that do manage to take semantics into account (TransOWL, ball embeddings like ELEm and EmEL++, and box embeddings like BoxEL and Box^2EL.
So: even if you do move to a non-symbolic representation (numerical, geometric), make sure you keep the semantics: don't throw the semantic baby out with the symbolic bathwater.

Rumelt describes strategizing as identifying pivotal issues within your market and your industry and making a plan focused on forceful, results-oriented action. He reminds readers that strategy has little to do with ambitious goals, vision, leadership, innovation or determination. For many business leaders, strategy means promulgating meaningless slogans that tout impressive but unrealistic goals. A sound business strategy presents a specific action plan to overcome a defined challenge. Rumelt says good strategy involves multiple analyses and the painstaking development of thoughtful, expertly implemented policies that surmount obstacles and move the firm profitably ahead.
RightScale Webinar: So you want to move to the cloud... but you’re not sure what that means, or where you would even start. Or you want to get your feet wet with a proof-of-concept project before you bring out the big guns. In this webinar, Brian and Rafael Saavedra, our VP of Engineering, will walk you through those five projects and will help you demonstrate success in the cloud now.
Drifting Away: Testing ML Models in ProductionDatabricks
Deploying machine learning models has become a relatively frictionless process. However, properly deploying a model with a robust testing and monitoring framework is a vastly more complex task. There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to productionizing ML models, oftentimes requiring custom implementations utilising multiple libraries and tools. There are however, a set of core statistical tests and metrics one should have in place to detect phenomena such as data and concept drift to prevent models from becoming unknowingly stale and detrimental to the business.
Combining our experiences from working with Databricks customers, we do a deep dive on how to test your ML models in production using open source tools such as MLflow, SciPy and statsmodels. You will come away from this talk armed with knowledge of the key tenets for testing both model and data validity in production, along with a generalizable demo which uses MLflow to assist with the reproducibility of this process.

Organizations need strategic planning because the world changes constantly. It is foolhardy and unrealistic to assume that economic conditions, consumer needs and expectations, competition in the marketplace, or a host of other factors will remain the same for two, three or five years into the future.
Insights from strategy consultants such as McKinsey and Gartner have revealed that although strategic planning is a basic business practice, many organisations are struggling to make it work--the results often fail to meet expectations.
Moreover, our research and experience have found that most strategic planning processes are poorly conceptualised and poorly executed; the process is often not very creative, and it is tactical rather than strategic in nature; and the so-called strategic plan rarely impacts the day-to-day decisions made in the organization.
To be successful, a strategic planning process should provide a template against which all such decisions can be evaluated.
What this guide will focus is not so much on "strategy tools," but a step-by-step systematic approach to strategic planning. The strategic planning process presented consists of eight sequential steps to guide organizational leaders and key stakeholders to plan and create its future. The Eight Steps of Strategic Planning include:
- Step 1: Plan the Planning Process
- Step 2: Define Shared Values and Mission
- Step 3: Analyze the Current Organizational Profile
- Step 4: Create an Inspiring Vision
- Step 5: Compare Current to Envisioned Organization
- Step 6: Develop Strategies, Objectives and Plans
- Step 7: Execute Action Plans
- Step 8: Monitor Results and Make Improvements
This comprehensive Strategic Planning PPT training presentation provides a model for transforming organizations and contains seven ingredients that are necessary for such transformations; that is, the strategic planning:
- Is future focused
- Is leadership driven, not leader driven
- Provides for a high level of organizational involvement
- Produces a plan that is widely understood and accepted
- Produces a plan that is comprehensive and detailed
- Is a model that can be rigorously applied
- Provides the energizing force to drive the transformation
As a process guide, the steps presented offer a unique and powerful approach to strategic planning. The steps and/or sub-steps may be adapted to suit the specific needs and desires of the organization.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
