today, and economic, political, and social factors are shaping CSR strategies around the world. Approached
strategically, CSR has the potential to generate opportunity, innovation and competitive advantage for
organizations while solving pressing social problems. The study explored the effectiveness of CSR strategies on
organizational performance by ascertaining whether responsibility towards primary stakeholders influences the
financial and non-financial performance of commercial banks. The author focused on the Equity Bank in Kenya.
Content analysis of the Bank’s financial reports between the years 2006 and 2012 was done to ascertain the
relationship between CSR and performance of the Bank. The establishment of EGF, a fully fledged subsidiary of
Equity Bank, to handle all aspects of social responsibility for the Bank is a clear attestation of how important
and serious the institution considers CSR in their day-to-day operations. The categorization of the CSR
strategies into thematic areas showed that, to the Eank, social responsibility is not just a philanthropic deed to
society but a strategic tool for furtherance of business objectives, including stakeholder relationships. The study
recommended the need for organizations to be more inclusive and participatory among all the stakeholders at
all levels of implementation as well as further research to determine the level at which CSR impacts on
performance and the influence of prior organizational performance on social responsibility.

Financial Practices of Private Schools in Nueva Ecija during Covid-19 PandemicIJAEMSJORNAL
This study identified the financial practices, challenges and level compliance of selected private schools in Nueva Ecija during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Ten school treasurers from different private high schools in Nueva Ecija were purposively selected as the respondents of the study. The results revealed that while all schools were compliant to the minimum Certification Assessment Instrument (CAI) standards in the area of school budget and finances set by the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) it did not exempt these schools to different financial challenges brought by COVID-19. The data gathered also determined that decrease in student enrollment, difficulty in collecting student financial obligation and decrease in revenue generated inside the school from canteen operation were the top financial challenges encountered by these schools that were mainly attributed to the distance learning modality employed by the private schools due to school lockdowns. Majority of these schools have employed common financial practices in increasing student’s enrollment through increasing the budget on marketing strategy, waiving all school fees to senior high school students coming from public schools and expanding kindergarten subsidy slots and in strategies on intensifying collection of student financial liability by way of orientation on parents/guardians on payment culture, intensifying communication mechanism on collection, account cards available on demand and availability e- payments while continuously improving the overall areas of school operation to perpetually participate as Educational Service Contracting (ESC) schools.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.

shareholder primacy should give way to
impacting all stakeholders. Instead of
increasing only the shareholders' wealth,
rms should make a paradigm shift to
maximise the creation of social values
delivered to all stakeholders.
The message is loud and clear that business,
as usual, is no longer acceptable. Firms must
pledge to protect the environment by
embracing sustainable practices, fostering
diversity and inclusion, displaying dignity
and respect, adhering to ethical practices
and creating social and economic wealth for
all stakeholders by adopting responsible
business management.
Challenging Times
5. During such a challenging time in the face of
real possibilities, B-schools are not spared.
The escalating cost of management
education, growing sentiment among
management professionals that an MBA
degree is no longer in uencing the career
advancement, decreasing employer
sponsorship for doing business degree
program are taking away the shine of an
MBA degree. This is further aggravated by
self-paced, online, cost-effective and
stackable modules of MBA courses. The
creative responses of the management
institutes such as offering more content in a
exible format, on-site delivery of courses,
and customising programs around problems
companies need to solve are not able to
reverse the tide. A B-school which can
rigorously confront and clarify the purpose
and mission of its existence possibly can
turn the threat of closure into an
opportunity. It can grow together with its
stakeholders if it can create meaningful and
positive impact on them.

The primary purposes of a B-School is to
produce professional managers, provide
responsible management education, and
deliver useful research should be
augmented by the addition of creating an
impact on their stakeholders. The common
approach to measuring the impact of a
business school is to rely on the number of
academic publications in ranked journals,
their citations and alumni salaries. But in
reality, the B-school should strategize to
impact multiple stakeholders with divergent
expectations, at local, regional, national and
global levels. Besides academic, intellectual
and nancial impacts, a B-School should
produce impact on society, business
development, the regional ecosystem the
image of the region. A B-School should
in uence private organizations,
government, public sector, NGOs and media.
This needs an impact mind set and a wider
lens to explore impact that the B-School
creates.
Recent trends worldwide indicate that the
emphasis is shifting toward measuring
impact. AACSB in its suggested revised
framework for 2020 is considering reducing
the number of standards to 10 and regroup
those under three main constructs: Strategy,
Mission, and Societal Impact; Learner
Success; and Thought Leadership. Societal
impact will be de ned and operationalized
by each school with respect to its own
mission, strategies, and resources. In 2014,
the Research Excellence Framework, UK
introduced impact of teaching and research.
Same year EFMD introduced Business School
Impact System (BSIS) to help B-schools
assess their impact on the eco-system
surrounding them. In 2016, the Australian
Government developed measures for
research impact for its higher education. The
Times Higher Education University Impact
Rankings gave its rst ranking in 2019 that
assessed universities against the United
Nations’Sustainable Development Goals.

While these developments indicate that B-
Schools should evolve from the current
quality focus to measure the impact they are
creating, for BIMTECH, the need to go for
impact study was also driven by its vision
statement:
Developing ethical leaders with

The two phrases‘Entrepreneurial mind-set’
and‘Sustainability and inclusive growth’
present in the vision statement demand
very careful assessment for their impacts on
stakeholders. During the past few years, the
institute had been concerned about nding
a proper method for the impact assessment.
As one of the long-time members of
Principles of Responsible Management
Education (PRME), it was the need of the
hour to monitor the academic, managerial
and societal impacts of the institute.
BIMTECH decided to assess the nature and
extent of the impact on its immediate
environment through Business School
Impact System (BSIS) offered by European
Foundation for Management Development
(EFMD), which is one of the top three
reputed accreditation bodies.
BSIS the Perfect Fit
BIMTECH (www.bimtech.ac.in) was established in 1988 by Birla
Group of Companies, to offer postgraduate academic programmes
as well as consultancy and training in Business Management,
Insurance Management, International Business, and Retail
Management. BIMTECH is accredited by the NAAC (A+) and NBA of
Indian Government.

BIMTECH’s impact assessment was
conducted through the Business School
Impact System (BSIS) which is designed to
determine the extent of a school’s impact
upon its local environment—the city or
region in which it is located.
The BSIS process is well established in the
French higher education arena, and is now
offered through a joint venture between the
European Foundation for Management
Development (EFMD) and the French
National Foundation for Management
Education (FNEGE) as a service to EFMD
members in any part of the world. Since its
inception in 2014, thirty-nine B-schools
across the world have gone through BSIS
process and awarded the BSIS Label. Out of
these, 9 B-Schools have triple crown
accreditation.
The steps of the BSIS process are:
• De ne the impact zone for the analysis:
in our case, we chose the province of
Delhi NCR, although we recognize our
impact extends past our provincial
borders to include all of India and
beyond.
• Collect data and work closely with the
BSIS experts to prepare the
documentation to prepare an analysis
of our impact.
• Host a two-day on-site visit by a team of
experts. During this visit the team
interviews a carefully selected group of
key players within the school and a
range of external stakeholders.
In these meetings, internal perceptions
regarding the B-school’s impact are
compared to external expectations, and the
gap between the two is assessed. The BSIS
experts then draft a report setting out the
ndings related to the assessment
framework, the B-school’s own input, and
the input from the interviews. The report
highlights areas in which the school’s impact
is strong, while also drawing attention to the
areas in which it can be enhanced.
About BSIS Process
12. BIMTECH wished to nd out its impact on
students and their families, alumni,
recruiters, local and national public
authorities, regulators, media, local
community and public and private
enterprises located within its impact zone.
For most of the activities, the National
Capital Region (NCR) was considered to be
the appropriate impact zone.
Only for research and publication the impact
zone was taken to be international. Besides
teaching-learning, research and consultancy,
the engagement avenues created by
BIMTECH were seminars, HR round tables,
training programs and social connect with
the local community.
BIMTECH submitted its report providing all
the data and related information supported
by pieces of evidence and anecdotes to
showcase its engagement within the region.
The BSIS framework comprehensively
covered all the activities of a B-School
through its 120 indicators spread over seven
impact criteria: Financial, Educational,
Business Development, Intellectual, Impact
within the Regional Ecosystem, Societal and
Impact on the image of the region. The
submission of the report was followed by a
two-day visit of BSIS experts in April 2019.

A vibrant economy through the contribution
of various organizations in the region
indicates the value of those organizations
and their importance to the region.
BIMTECH makes a valuable contribution to
the regions’economy.
BIMTECH has 840 students enrolled in its 2
year PGDM program, 60 full-time faculty and
198 support staff who make a contribution
to the region through various activities
related to teaching, research, conferences,
student clubs, alumni association, the Atal
Incubation Centre and BIMTECH
Foundation. Through these activities,
BIMTECH makes a direct nancial impact of
INR 470 Million and indirect nancial impact
of about INR 141 Million.
Assuming that 70% of its expenses are re-
injected in the local economy (considering
average multiplier of 2.5 used for business
schools in different countries) by the various
actors and companies in the impact zone, it
creates a multiplier effect of INR 1527
Million.
It means that BIMTECH is creating a total
nancial impact (direct + indirect + induced)
of INR 2138 Million in its local region

BIMTECH is the first B-school in India that has gone
through the BSIS process and has been
awarded the BSIS label by EFMD.
14. BIMTECH offers masters and doctoral level
programme in business management. The
institute runs a portfolio of four graduate
programmes, three of which have a
business-sector concentration –
International Business, Retail Management
and Insurance Business Management.
BIMTECH is accredited by the National Board
of Accreditation (NBA) and National
Assessment and Accreditation Council
(NAAC) with highest quality mark and is in
the advanced stages of the AACSB
accreditation. BIMTECH has been placed in
the top brackets in the National Institute
Ranking Framework (NIRF). These quality
marks together with Birla legacy have
attracted students from the region and
outside the region. This is also evident from
the 5200 applications received for 420 seats
in 2018. The strategy to have diversity in
region has resulted in a mix 70% of students
from the Delhi- NCR region and 30% from

These students also serve as resources for
local businesses through their internship
project and short term project. The program
and courses are designed in a way that it
incorporates interaction with industry

projects, mentoring and networking bring
the two together to utilize knowledge and

About 40% of the graduating students enter
regional job market and rest enter the job
market in other cities. The knowledge and
skills acquired at BIMTECH serve as resource
to outside the region as well.

business ecosystem through its various
initiatives. Two of its centre- the Centre for
Corporate Relations and Centre for
Management Development and
Consultancy are liaison with industry. The
Centre for Corporate Relations works with
the industry to develop opportunities for
students for Summer Internship Project
(SIP), short term projects (STP), on job
training (OJT). These initiatives enhance
skills of students making them job ready. In
return, students serve as an asset of
knowledge and skills to the company.

Consultancy supports the business
community through its training programs
and consultancy program.
Entrepreneurship, is of special importance to
any region. The Indian Government is
promoting entrepreneurship through its
various missions. The Centre for Innovation
and Entrepreneurship and Development
(CIED) at BIMTECH through its dedicated
efforts to promote entrepreneurship and
new business development received a grant
from the Government of India in 2017 to set
up Atal Incubation Centre. The Atal
Incubation Centre supports innovators and
start-up businesses in their effort to become
successful entrepreneurs. Within one year,
there are 22 start-ups in the incubator and
more than 130 persons are engaged in these
projects. The incubation centre provides a
direct link between the three important
groups- the entrepreneurs, the students,
and the faculty. The incubator centre
periodically organizes events to promote
and support entrepreneurs. Other initiatives
of the CIED are organizing Junior World
Entrepreneurship Forum (JWIF) and
Enterpioneer every year to foster
entrepreneurship among students. The
student run business FROOSH on campus is
another step in this direction.

In line with this vision and mission, the
Institute’s dedicated Centre for Sustainability
and CSR (CSC) has taken an active and

professional bodies for Sustainable
Development and CSR projects, awards,
evaluations and dissemination of awareness.
Every student undergoes a course on CSR
which is integral to all the four graduate
programmes of BIMTECH. Every student
devotes ten hours in village/ slums or CSR
intervention sites of companies. This
sensitises them towards pressing
developmental issues faced by people in
villages/slums.

Knowledge Park which is recognized as a
quality hub of higher education. As it was
among the rst few B-schools and the best
one in the region, it had a signi cant bearing

The B-school plays an active role in the
policy and development discussions with
the regional authorities. This has resulted in
a greater number of social and
developmental projects in the vicinity that
are aligned with the government objectives
and that raise the modern social image of
the region.
BIMTECH has taken on the task of serving
not only its immediate stakeholders within
the B-school, but also the neighbouring
cities by initiating a learning on wheels
project, by creating a modern bus with the
latest technologies and a computer lab
which goes within a radius of 200+ kms to
serve the under privileged. While this
creates necessary skills for the future
generations, it also creates a positive feeling
and a strong image of what the region
stands for.
Today, in many of the new higher education
policy initiatives, BIMTECH plays an active
role in shaping them for the future
development of society as a whole. The
rapid development seen by students
coming to BIMTECH from PAN India and
abroad, together with local and
international visitors has strengthened the
image not only of BIMTECH but also of the
region itself.
Furthermore, as the city is a centre of strong
traditions, BIMTECH has taken on the task of
encouraging the traditional arts by
highlighting the different cultural objects
represented in its corporate gifts, in the food
prepared and in the layout of the facility,
which is embellished with paintings and
sculptures representative of modern Indian
art etc. Most people have been connected
with the campus for over a decade, which

n the crises ridden and fast-changing world of today
Ithe role of a Business School should be to produce
leaders who can make companies ethical and
entrepreneurs who can produce positive impact on the
society. Guided by the Vision and Mission of BIMTECH
which lays emphasis on entrepreneurship and
sustainability, the institute has created many opportunities
to sensitize students to become ethical leaders with

BIMTECH has always been focused on adopting quality
processes but seldom measured the impact on
stakeholders.
In June 2019, BIMTECH earned the distinction of being the
rst institute in India to get BSIS Label from EFMD. We
started building quality-driven impact culture by orienting
