Lt. Colonel Jay R. Jensen s Six Years in Hell
Lt. Colonel Jay R. Jensen s Six Years In Hell Brandon Emerson AP American History Period five Due
10/21/96 The book I have chosen to read for this review is one entitled SIX YEARS IN HELL. It is a
book written by one Lt. Colonel Jay R. Jensen in a first person manor. He was a military pilot who
flew over Vietnam and was captured and taken as a POW. This book covers his time in the military
before hand describing the daily procedures etc. of his military life. The author graduated from Jordan
High School in Sandy, Utah in 1949. He then joined The Utah Air National Guard during the Korean
war. Mr. Jensen was on active duty for 20 months, after which he attended Brigham Young University.

He was often tortured and after a refusal to say anything more than his Name, Rank, and Serial
Number he tortured again and when it became apparent that he was not going to say any more they
took him on a long journey to Hanoi where he would stay at the Hanoi Hilton which was an old
French prison. The V (Viet Cong) referred to it as Hoa Loa meaning Hell Hole. He was later moved
from Hoa Loa and into a place called the ZOO, a more comfortable and welcoming camp than the last,
and was taken through many more moves after that. The rest of the story is told describing his
tribulations at the Hanoi Hilton and is summed up at the end of the book talking about his return home
and his hopes for the future including finding a new wife because his current wife had divorced him
after his 5th year of captivity. While reading this book you actually get to feel what the pilot s feeling
and the pain from the tortures are quite evident and during the story about the tourniquet torture I
almost lost feeling in my arms, that is how strong the descriptions were. This book had no index but
the table of contents was very thorough and one while having the ability to read straight through,
could also use the book as a reference looking at the table of contents that pointed to each chapter and
sub chapter which were descriptively named. So for instance in you wished to know about the

Gifted Education In America
Education was built, along with many other things, to the average standard. It was designed with the
average student in mind, never really adapted towards those who grasps concepts quickly, accelerate
at rapid rates beyond their peers. As gifted, or exceptionally intelligence children make up around 6 to
10 percent of the students within America, roughly 3 to 5 million students ( Gifted Education in the
U.S ). But as America is behind in the general education, it is bounds behind in gifted education.
Teachers aren t equipped to challenge the gifted students, or simply have no time to spend developing
and nurturing the child s talents. Schools don t have programs to help the children develop at their
quicken pace, and programs in place aren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the children have been identified, they need to have an adequate program to aid in their
cognitive growth. The majority of gifted children are placed into the general education, leading to
boredom. As they understand concepts faster, especially abstract, boredom sets in as the children
continuously have to wait for their peers to catch up. Programs need to be made for them, as they are
the future. They will aid in the development and continuation of America, far more than the average
child. Several methods can be applied to a gifted program to keep the children engaged and their
minds simulated. Acceleration and Enrichment are two options, with the accelerated program having
the greatest positive feedback. Acceleration allows for the child to learn at a rapid pace, depending on
them not their peers, while enrichment is the addition of supplement information or reading
(Subotnik). Many programs in place presently have an accelerated program, but many are still too
slow or parents have no knowledge of it. The programs also puts less stress on the general education
teachers, especially if they don t know how to handle these students. Teachers within the program
should be specialized in dealing with the gifted, allowing for a better understanding and connection
between the student and teacher. And as all gifted students are different, the teachers need to be
slightly flexible, but still continue along the accelerated path. The program needs to placed
everywhere, and allow equal chance for everyone to get in. Many argue against these types of
programs, as they make clear the separation between the elite and average (Winner). While others
offer grade skipping, but never take into account the social development of the

Compare And Contrast Classical And Classical Theory
One of the fundamental theories of criminal behavior is the classical theory. This theory dates to the
18th century with philosopher Cesare Beccaria, who stated that human behavior is driven by the
choice (Bartol Bartol, 2017). The process of making a choice is made through balancing the weight of
pleasure to be gained, against the amount pain or punishment expected by the act. This concept can
also be thought of as free will. Free will is found in the beginning of the Bible, in the Garden of Eden.
Adam and Eve were told they could not eat from the Tree of Good and Evil. Before eating of the tree
Eve was presented with a choice, she could obey God or disobey him. Through disobedience she was
promised by the serpent that she would gain knowledge. The serpent told her that if she ate of the tree
that, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:5, New
Revised Standard Version). However, she knew that disobedience could result in death as she had been
cautioned by God, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die (Genesis 2:17, NRSV). Before
choosing to eat the fruit, similar to the classical theory of crime, Eve had to balance the pleasure to be
gained versus the punishment. Despite being forbidden to eat from the tree, Eve made the choice to
disobey God.
While classical theory resonates in the Bible, regarding man s free will. I personally lean towards a
combination of the classical theory and the positivist theory.

Easy You Are Likely Going The Wrong Way Analysis
If the road is easy, you re likely going the wrong way. What this means is that people need struggles in
their daily lives to accomplish desired goals which might not be easy. This is so true such as living in
the 21st century where their is constant violence towards people fighting for peace and a better
tomorrow. There is a film, The Lone Survivor, that also shows people experiencing violence fighting
for peace in Afghanistan. Also, there is the movie, The Lost Boys, where people fight for survival and
their religious beliefs. In addition, there is a television show called, Naked and Afraid, where people
are sent to Africa to learn survival skills. Films and shows now at days show how struggling for real
causes is not easy, but a way

What Is The 1988 Reform Act To Present
There s little disbelief that education, as a social institution, has an important role to play in our
society (Moore, Aiken, Chapman, 2005). This essay will look further into the influences of social,
economic and political changes in Britain s education over the last 30 years. The essay will mainly
review and focus on the eras between the 1988 reform Act to present. This essay will explore further
into the influences of the national curriculum, how conservatives, labour and the coalition have
affected social and economic environments in education and comparisons between the conservatives
and labour. It will also discuss, philosophers Dewey and Freire reviewing how both of their methods
of pedagogy has influenced teachers methods and approaches to teaching.
Successive conservatives in the 1980s increased the pace of improvement and reform and introduced
Market Mechanisms into the education system, in aim to force schools to increase their standards of
teaching (Ross Gibson, 2007). The real uprising in Britain s education legislation came in 1988 when
the education Reform Act was introduced, this Act is widely known to be the most important since the
1944 Butlers Act (Meredith, 1989). The Act introduced the National curriculum, so far being the most
important provision, presenting new outcomes for secondary and primary education. The National
Curriculum sets out attainment targets, knowledge, skills and understanding for which children would

Essay On Hotel Del Coronado
Hotel del Coronado, San Diego, CA.
If you had the chance to visit San Diego, California you might consider staying at the Hotel del
Coronado. This popular beachfront hotel was once featured in the movie Some Like It Hot starring
Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. It is possible that this hotel inspired writer L. Frank
Baum to come up with Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz . The hotel isn t green but it slightly
resembles Emerald City. The hotel was built in the Victorian age in 1888 and is considered to be a
luxury beachside resort hotel on Coronado Island just a ten minute drive from downtown San Diego.

The Counterculture Of The Sixties
The 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s are all both memorable and marked as influential time periods for what is
the current culture of the United Sates. This paper will discuss the influence of each decade stated
previously. The first factor to be considered is fashion and how it played a significant role in shaping
the catwalk today. The Hippie Movement in the 60s and 70s was in large part a reason for many
political protests. Music in the 80s can be considered the most recent as well as strangest influencing
factor contributing to the culture of the United Sates.

The Effect Of Light And Total Respiration Of The Plant...
Intro:
For all living organisms including plants, respiration is the process of converting chemical energy into
a usable form of energy (Biol 171L Lab 7). Even if an organism does not have an energy source, they
will keep respiring. For autotrophic plants, the process of obtaining energy is called photosynthesis. It
harvests solar energy, carbon dioxide, and water to form a usable form of energy (Tanaka 2009). The
factors that go into this process includes the pigment the plant possesses, and the intensity,
wavelength, and direction of the light. Plants that contain the pigment chlorophyll a are the ones we
see as the leaves of common trees, or grass.
Because chlorophyll a takes in violet blue, and orange red lights to use in photosynthesis, it reflects
green, and that is the color we see. This study investigates the relationship between the wavelength of
light and the total respiration of the plant Elodea. The purpose is to see the effect of the presence or
absence of certain wavelengths can have on the process of photosynthesis. Because Elodea is a plant
that reflects green light, it can be assumed that red lights, the complimentary color to green will be
absorbed the most contributing to the process of photosynthesis and respiration making the most
oxygen.
Methods:
In this lab, varying wavelengths were used to test how light affects photosynthesis and respiration as a
whole. The absorbance of lights from 380 nm to 720 nm of chlorophyll pigment from the Elodea

The Hackensack Water Works Museum
I do not remember moving to this town, I was too young. I have lived here all my life. My parents
moved to the town of Oradell so I could go to a good school and live in a nice house. They bought the
cheapest house in Bergen County at the time, since it was all they could afford. They let me pick
which bedroom I wanted, and although I do not remember saying this, I chose my room because it
was the only bedroom with a view of the Oradell Reservoir from the window. My dad got a fishing
key from the town, which allowed us to go down the street and through the fishing gate by the end of
our road and enter the reservoir property to hike and fish. I spent most of my childhood at the

Clifford Zinc, he talks about how it was one of the first water treatment plants to use modern water

sand cleansing techniques (Zinc). These water cleansing techniques are still used today; many home

Aesthetic Judgement Kant
kant contends that it is our workforce of judgment that empowers us to have involvement of beauty
and handle those encounters as a major aspect of a requested, regular world with purpose.
Kant trusts he can demonstrate that aesthetic judgment isn t on a very basic level unique in relation to
customary hypothetical discernment of nature, and he trusts he can demonstrate that aesthetic
judgment has a profound likeness to moral judgment. For these two reasons, Kant claims he can
exhibit that the physical and moral universes and the rationalities and types of felt that present them
are perfect, as well as bound together.
Kant also goes on to explain Aesthetic judgment along these lines includes purposiveness, in that it
endeavours to allude the stylish protest some idea which would fit to it (so Kant claims). In any case,
Kant contends that aesthetic judgment is constituted by the failure for effectively being able to relate
to an idea. In this manner, the aesthetic judgment does not have a reason or a purpose. This implies
our creative ability, given the complex of sensation constituting the aesthetic object, is set into free
play since it never winds up being compelled by an idea when it assesses the question. Also, that is the
source of the intellectual delight Kant claims is constitutive of aesthetic judgment. That is the reason
we encounter joy when we look at a beautiful sunset, perfect human figure, or a masterpiece we can t

Linda Boreman s Experience With The Pornographic Film

industry from the age of 20 to the age of 32. In the 1970 s, Linda (played by Amanda Seyfried) meets
Chuck Traynor (played by Peter Sarsgaard), and falls in love. Short on money, Chuck coerces Linda
into prostitution and the pornographic film industry. Spending only seventeen days in the porn
industry, Linda becomes the star of one of the most well known pornographic films in western history,
Deep Throat, and receives the stage name of Linda Lovelace, all while enduring abuse from her
manipulative husband. The themes such as sexual coercion, sex for sale, and gnder roles, are
expressed throughout the film. The sexual coercion of Linda Boreman by Chuck Traynor is what set in
motion the events of Linda s ordeal. Until the end of Linda and Chuck s marriage, Linda was forced
into preforming sexual acts on Chuck Traynor through implied threats as well as physical abuse, thus
experiencing acquaintance rape. Chuck s person being one who conform to traditional gender roles,

Restorative justice has some key restorative values that are vital in the restorative justice conference to
make the experience restorative . Concerning addressing victim needs and concerns means for
listening, respecting, being non judgmental, not blaming the victim and apologizing. The RJ system
was bought as an alternative to the criminal justice system to give greater emphasis on victim rights
and needs, offender accountability and community involvement. Throughout the essay, there will be
an insight into how Restorative Justice addresses needs of victims in terms of the different proponents
such as Information provided to victim, restitution/compensation, emotional and practical needs met,
participation and involvement of victim and protection of victim, which (Wemmers and Marisa, 2002)
as essentials to victims participating in the practice. The two countries that will be addressed will have
had restorative justice built out of injustices and over representation of the current criminal justice
system to the indigenous peoples of those countries.
The traditional criminal justice system is criticized for its neglect of victim importance and needs, for
example (Symonds, 1980) acknowledges, that the criminal justice system is concerned about looking
back at the event rather than focusing on how to rehabilitate and as a consequence making victims be
in a secondary victimization effect. This is the attitudes, behaviors and the beliefs of the people in the

Women s Degradation By Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Women s degradation is in man s idea of his sexual rights. Our religion, laws and customs are all
founded on the belief that woman was made for man (Stanton) Believed to be one of the greatest and
most influential feminists of not only her generation, but of all time, Elizabeth Cady Stanton paved the
way for women and their rights in a time when they had none. Elizabeth, was one of the first feminist
theorists in America and through her beliefs that women deserve equality and equal rights, she paved
the way for the future of women and her effect on America is still felt today. Elizabeth s first major
fight within the world of feminism was after the Civil War had ended, and slavery had been abolished.
She joined with Fredrick Douglas, Susan B. Antony, and many other influential women of the time, to
create the American Equal Suffrage Association. This group was created to not only secure the voting
rights of American women but also the voting right for any freed slave. However, once the bill that
had been created to ratify the fifteenth amendment came to the senate floor, it was discovered that
although the bill included rights for colored men to vote, it excluded the word sex , therefore it did not
give women the right to vote. The women s movement of the American Equal Suffrage Association
was outraged by the injustice done and they went on to continue the fight for equality without Fredrick
Douglas. Having separated themselves from Douglas, Elizabeth and Antony

A ROWE type program would both work and not work at my current company of Cooper Tire and
Rubber Company. The success of the program would be based on the department and their functions.
ROWE programs would not work in my current role as a Customer Service Coordinator. My current
role is a customer facing position requiring me to physically be at work and available to the customer
between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in order to answer questions, process requests, and solve any issues that
may arrive with shipments or the product. My position is highly concentrated in email
correspondence; other positions within my department are primarily phone based. These types of
correspondences require people in the department to be accessible to answer the phones or emails and
also to provide information from or enter information into SAP. SAP requires the person to be
hardwired into Cooper s secure network. These two factors usually mean the person must be at the
office to perform the vital duties of the job. Jobs that are customer facing or jobs that require

based upon time and place ROWE type programs cannot be utilized. Departments that would be

The Analytical Methods Applied On Security Pattern Data...
The analytical methods applied on security pattern data yield results in the form of pattern clusters and
concepts. Pattern applicability can be improved by making this classification and resulting concept
knowledge readily available to practitioners. In order to make it readily available, the results must be
represented in a suitable format. Further, it must be shared using a tool or technology which is easy to
use and does not need any special hardware or software. In this chapter, we present our approach
towards representing the gained knowledge and sharing it so that it can be accessed and used. The
chapter outline is as follows. In Section 7.1, we present the knowledge discovery and its adoption for
the present work. The first mining tool applied is clustering. The knowledge obtained using this
mechanism is presented in Section 7.2. The second knowledge discovery technique used in the
research is FCA. Section 7.3 gives an overview of the knowledge extracted using FCA. In Section 7.4,
we give our views about knowledge sharing, the issues which need to be considered and our solutions
to address them. The representation format for various knowledge elements is presented in Section
7.5. The knowledge search framework is presented in Section 7.6 followed by a discussion on the
implementation aspects in Section 7.7. The chapter ends with a summary.

A Classical View Of The Romantic Movement
Hypothesis: John Keats Odes were heavily influence by Classical ideologies which related to the
wider philosophy of the Romantic Movement.
This essay will apply a Classical perspective to John Keats Odes. I will examine how John Keats was
inspired by the ideologies of the Greeks and Roman mythology. John Keats based his Odes on Roman
myths and Greek artefacts; he used these to explore wider themes that relate to Greek Philosophy. This
essay will show how Keats related the wider philosophy of the Romantic Movement to the ideologies
to the Classical eras. It will also show the cultural similarities between Antiquity and 19th century
Britain which evoked similar lines of thought. The similarities which characterised each of the three
eras are linked by the socio cultural context of war and tyrannous government. [Holden, S, 1970;
Long, AA, 1985] This led to a movement in philosophical thought in both eras that examined ways to
improve the human condition. Both Keats and Greek philosophers saw attaining pleasure as the means
of achieving this objective.
AA Long s analysis of Epicureanism enables me to develop an understanding of Epicureanism in
order for me to develop my own critical perspective on John Keats as AA long is a primary and
reliable source as he is a British and American classical scholar and professor of classics. He has a
greater understanding of the classical world and he understands Epictetus the studies in Hellenistic

The Importance of Information Literacy Essay
Information literacy skills are used for academic purposes, such as research papers and group
presentations. They are used on the job the ability to find, evaluate, use and share information is an
essential skill. They are also used in consumer decisions, such as which car or vacuum cleaner to
purchase, are critical. Last but not least, they are used by informed citizens in participating fully in a
democratic society through voting (Kenney, 2007).
Information literacy is conceivably the foundation for learning in contemporary environment of
continuous technological change. As information and communication technologies develop rapidly,

out that efforts to train students to be adept at attaining information through a variety of mechanisms
must be integrated, relevant, ongoing, collaborative, and applied if they are to be successful in
preparing those students for success in their academic and professional careers (Zabel ,2007).
For students to be adequately informed about the value of the university library and resources such as
the Internet in information retrieval there must be a careful collaboration between teaching staff and
library staff (Kenney, 2007). The focus in this task, of course, is preparing students not just for the
immediate research project at hand but rather to prepare them to be life long learners, to prepare them
to be successful and productive once they leave the academic environment and take up their chosen
careers (Lauer Yodanis, 2012).
A search for information can take a variety of routes. It might entail a visit to the university library or
to some other organization that maintains information on a particular subject. Academic libraries are

Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil
Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives.
This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book
Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be
in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire
instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to
power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to
power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is
one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to
power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible
character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the
will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the
reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of
self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to
discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most
frequent results. This

Synapse Specificity Analysis
Memory formation occurs through LTP. This is due to the fact that LTP is synapse specific. Synapse
specificity is the process of when a synapse is stimulated, only that synapse is affected; neighboring
synapses that lie close by remain unaffected.1 Extending into this topic, CaMKII, an enzyme, was
found to play a major role in synapse specificity. The increase of intracellular calcium from the
unblocking of the NMDA type glutamate receptors resulting in the activation of CaMKII triggers LTP.
The broad question that is then addressed in Lee et al s article, Activation of CaMKII in Single
Dendritic Spines during Long Term Potentiation is what makes up the foundation of synapse
specificity of LTP and how does CaMKII affect synapse specificity? To answer the questions
previously asked, Lee et al conducted an experiment using several methods, which include
fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), two photon microscopy, photostimulation, and ...

The effect of CaMKII on synapse specificity is controlled by two factors: the rate of CaMKII s
inactivation and its mobility. Starting with the rate of inactivation of CaMKII, the fluorescence
lifetime of the GFP, in other words, the activation of CaMKII, lasted only two minutes. This went
along with the observation calcium levels fall back to initial concentrations within milliseconds. This
does not allow calcium to diffuse into neighboring spines and activate CaMKII due to the short time
limit. Because of the fast rate of inactivation of CaMKII, CaMKII is forced to stick to one dendritic
spine. Hence why, the activation of CaMKII follows synaptic specificity. The second factor is mobility
of the activation of CaMKII. Using fluorescence decay, it was concluded that CaMKII had really slow
mobility of diffusion out of a dendritic spine. Because CaMKII can t diffuse out of the spine fast
enough, this also confines the activation of CaMKII to one

Analysis Of My Cousin Vinny
The movie My Cousin Vinny follows two young men, Bill and Stan, as they embark on their journey
to UCLA. Along the way, they become hungry and decide to stop at the Sack Of Suds, an unassuming
little convenience store in Alabama, to buy a few refreshments. After leaving the store, Bill discovers
that he has accidentally forgotten to pay for a can of tuna. Soon following his realization, the men get
pulled over by a cop and are arrested. After a short interrogation by the police, Stan confesses to what
he thinks is shoplifting. However, it is quickly realized that their charges are much more serious than
that and the boys now face the ultimate capital punishment, death. As it turns out, shortly after they
left the Sack of Suds, the store clerk was murdered. Having been the last persons seen at the crime
scene, Stan and Bill are now the number one suspects in the clerk s murder. Unable to afford a lawyer,
they enlist the help of Bill s cousin, Vinny Gambini. Vinny is not your average lawyer, though, as an
injury attorney who has only been at work for six weeks, has never been to trial, and, who, took six
attempts to pass the bar, odds aren t in his favor for winning a murder trial. Following their
interrogation and arrest, Bill and Stan attend the pre trial procedures. Stan is being formally charged
with accessory to murder in the first degree, while Bill is charged with first degree murder. At the

The Legal Concept Of Tort Law
Introduction Tort law is an area of law that focuses on the civil wrongful action of an individual that
causes injury to the other party. The action causes someone else to suffer loss hence a legal liability.
The loss may be property, personal reputation or life related requires that the affected entity be
compensated by the cause of the damage. The concept of tort law is applicable in handling civil issues
in the world of today hence a relevant area of study (Gardipee, 2013). The paper seeks to address the
legal concept of tort, the relation to the case of a famous United States of America pharmacist Robert
Courtney.it will further dwell on other lawsuit associated with the victim in the case scenario.
The legal concept of tort Tort law is a civil law that is very different from other types of laws such as
criminal or contract law. Many cases the offense may be due to negligence or breach of duty but
cannot be summarized as a criminal offense. The party that has suffered the loss normally can recover
the loss through a lawsuit. A lawsuit is a claim that is filed by the injured party to seek compensation
from the wrongdoer over the damage incurred. There four key elements of tort law that are crucial in
handling the concept (Deakin and Johnston, 2012).The duty of care, breach of duty, causation and
resulting damage or injury. For one to commit a tort, he or she must owe a legal duty to the victim.
This may occur in the line of duty for instance health professionals as in

Pompeii Swot Analysis

Commerce played an important part in the economy of Pompeii. Although there was no major
industrial production like we would see today, there is evidence of a wide variety of craft
establishments and thermopolia (restaurants) that have been excavated. The positioning of Pompeii
within Campania meant that it was ideal for trade due to having good access to the Mediterranean
shipping route as well as the Sarno River. The harbour was constantly active with traders keeping the
industry active.

private kitchens, we know that thermopolia were popular among poorer citizens who were unable to

Vesuvius erupted was preserved by the ash. In one bakery, 85 loaves were found left in an oven at the
time of the eruption showing the demand for shop brought bread was high. This tells us that bread was

Because bread did not have the additives it does today, it went stale quickly and had to be purchased
daily and therefore had to be baked daily.
We know that Pompeii traded with the east as baking requires mass production of flour, and soft wheat
was produced in the east. It would make sense that Pompeii traded to get this wheat as the town is on
sea trading routes. The Production of bread and cakes would have driven thirst and demand for drinks
like wine which would have boosted the economy.
From this fresco we can see how the bakery was setup. The loaves of bread were stacked on the
counter for the merchant to hand to the customers. It is obvious from this fresco that the bakery was a
place of trade as the merchant can be seen exchanging money with the customer. This tells us that
bakeries were an important part of Pompeiian economy and a good source of income for

Environmental Scanning And Key Risk Indicators
Indeed, there are multiple tools that can be utilized to determine organization risk, such as Risk
Analysis Questionnaire, Financial Statement Method, Flowchart Method, On Site Inspections,
Environmental Scanning, and Key Risk Indicators (Fraser Simkins, 2010). Ultimately, I chose to use
Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators to assess The Kroger Company s risk.
Comparatively, each tool offers unique advantages and viewpoints of the organization s operations,
current risk, and perceived future risk.
So, why did I choose Environmental Scanning and Key Risk Indicators as the tools to identify risk
within Kroger? First, the decision had to made as to the type of risk to identify, such as environmental,
regulatory, political, or technological. Then, the determination was made as to who or what would be
impacted by the risk, so there were questions to be asked, such as:
What is the business risks within Kroger s market or industry?
What impact would be caused as a result of changes in market conditions, such fluctuations in prices,
interest rates, and exchange rates?
What would happen as a result of operational risks associated with internal system failures because of
mechanical problems or human errors?
What legal risks could occur from failure to meet contractual obligations? (Risk, 2009).
After determining the risk to be identified, I reviewed each tool to choose the one that best diagnosed
risk exposure. Thus, the Risk Analysis Questionnaire is a checklist

demon or spirit that preys upon men. Super ESP Hypothesis: The suggestion that people are capable of
unlimited ESP. The super ESP hypothesis is often presented as an alternative to the survival
hypothesis in explaining mediumistic phenomena (the medium is believed to obtain information using
super ESP powers and not directly from the spirit of a deceased person). Supernatural: Of or relating
to existence outside the natural world. As opposed to paranormal, the term supernatural often denotes
divine or demonic intervention. Survey: A method of data collection that involves interviewing (or
giving questionnaires to) a representative and often large group of people. Survival: The belief that
some aspect of the person (e.g., consciousness, mind, personality, soul) lives on after death of the

Wonder Women Wonder Woman
THE SILVER AGE WONDER WOMAN In Issue #8 of DC s All Star Comics (cover date: Jan. 42)
there s an eight page story in tended to test readers reaction to a new type of hero. Written by Charles
Moulton (pseudonym of Psychologist William Moulton Marston), with art by Harry G. Peters, Wonder
Woman, Amazon Princess, enters a troubled world. Positive feedback encouraged DC to give her the
lead feature in a new anthology series Sensation Comics. An ardent believer in feminism, and a great
admirer of Margaret Sangster, founder of Planned Parenthood, Marston imbued his creation with
qualities normally found in male heroes. Wonder Woman (nee Diana) is the daughter of Queen
Hippolyta, who sculpted her from clay. The statue was given life by Aphrodite and powers (wisdom,
strength, speed, etc.) by the other Greek Goddesses. As Marston wrote, Wonder Woman ... is
psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who should, I believe, rule the world . Wonder
Woman s Golden Age exploits begin with her winning a contest to determine who will leave the
idyllic Amazon homeland of Paradise Island to help fight the growing menace of World War. She
remained a feminist icon until Marston s death in 1947 (She didn t entirely escape the sexism rampant
during this period. When she joined The Justice Society of America in 1942 she was made their
secretary). Robert Kanigher became writer and editor, and Wonder Woman began losing

Climate Change Persuasive Essay
OUTLINE:
I recycle my plastic, paper, cans and bottles. I carpool or take a bus to school or work once a week. I
turn off lights and unplug electronics when I leave the house. But I question whether my individual
efforts have any effect on addressing environmental issues like climate change. What do you think?
What argument would you make to your friend and others in response to the question?
Your efforts affect climate change but very slightly. I think the results you are looking for are the type
of results you can achieve if you get a big amount of people involved.
Individual efforts do make a difference but the strength of the effect if determined by the effort of the
individual
The things like reduce, reuse, recycle have an effect but in the ever so slightest ways.
How would you support the assertion that individual efforts do indeed make a difference?
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Plant trees
Domino effect
Get communities involved
Beach cleanups
How would you advise your friend and others to expand their efforts to address climate change?
Get your whole family involved
Get community involved
Plan beach cleanups
Petitions to the government
What values would you invoke to support your claims?
The actions we make today will affect those in the future, possibly our children and their children s
children.
Ideas:
Transportation stats
Carpool
Public trans. bike/walk Recycling stas
Buy local products
Composting
Change your ways
Water use
Less meat in diet

Prostate Cancer Recovery
PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOSEXUAL ADJUSTMENT OF PROSTATE CANCER
Sexual dysfunction represents a prevalent long term complication among prostate cancer survivors
with a wide spectrum of manifestations and a huge impact on quality of life [4]. Resnick et al (2013)
reported long term effects of sexual function after radical prostate cancer treatment reported by
prostate cancer survivors. As shown in a 15 yr follow up study consisted of 1655 men who had
localized prostate cancer the decline in erectile function following treatment is progressive, regardless
of treatment type (eg, surgery, radiation therapy). (20)
Unfortunately all treatment for prostate cancer can impact ED. While there are a number of medical
options for managing this, the emotional and psychological impact can be profound. It is important
that the patient is prepared for the likely possibility that recovery of ED will take a long time. There
are numerous treatments available to try before any improvements may be seen, patients should view
this recovery as rehabilitation. (21)
When analysing ED from a psychological perspective, the sense of a mans masculine identity being
affected can be a very distressful. Masculinity is a term used to describe a set of key characteristics
that is used to define a man as opposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Counselling patients and partners that the sexual recovery process can take time and persistence to
reduce anger and frustration during the process. Both patients and their partners need to appreciate
that their previous sex life will be changed. Discussing the challenges associated with ED treatments
with patients early before primary prostate cancer treatment should promote resilience in the presence
of erectile failure and circumvent demoralization because of repeated ED treatments that are not fully
restorative.

Individuality And Morality In A Clockwork Orange
A Clockwork Orange: Individuality, Morality, and Growing Up
Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork Orange, presents a struggle between animalistic urges and
mechanistic society by way of the motif of a clockwork orange. Many would agree that a clock and an
orange share little in common other than the fact that they may both be round. However, the organic
nature of an orange combined with the precision and mechanics of a clock curiously imitates the way
people respond to everyday influences. Anthony Burgess capitalizes on the differences between these
two seemingly unrelated objects to present the connection between morality and conformity within the
confines of the novel s narrator, Alex. Throughout the three parts of the novel, it becomes more
apparent that every seemingly harmless life can be manipulated by the clockwork of society. Alex is a
young boy living in the near future, whose obsession with the brutality of the world around him causes
him to act violently. The portrayal of the character Alex as both a protagonist and an antagonist
highlights the psychological turmoil associated with conforming to society by sacrificing either
morality for individuality or individuality for morality.
The word faithful is often misinterpreted as always having a positive connotation. The dictionary
definition of faithful, adhering or true to fact, a standard, an original , can be interpreted more widely
(Dictionary.com). In the beginning of A Clockwork Orange, Alex refers to himself

My Hybrid Classroom Management Plan
My hybrid classroom management plan that combines the Canter and Canter Assertive discipline style
and Dreikur s Democratic Teaching and Management procedures allows me to incorporate the
students opinions and ideas into the classroom rules and procedures. This allows for a sense of
community and shared responsibility between both myself and the students to insure that the rules are
being met. By allowing the student to have a say in how the classroom will run day to day makes them
feel like they have a place and a value in the classroom. It is also important that I foster a sense of
fairness by upholding the agreed upon rules without any bias so that the student know what to expect
when rules and procedures are either followed or not. This helps the students feel supported in the
classroom as well as nurtures a safe and inclusive learning environment. Throughout the last two field
experiences my favorite part has been getting to know each of the students in the classrooms. By the
end of the semester it became very hard to leave them because I had gotten attached and want to
continue to watch them grow. I have a feeling that having my own set of students that I will work with
every day over the course of a year will make it even hard to let go. I love just talking with my
students on a daily basis. This is something I will start from day one of a new school year. I will start
the school year off with focusing on just learning about the students in my care by playing

It was designed with the average student in mind, never really adapted towards those who grasps concepts quickly, accelerate at rapid rates beyond their peers. As gifted, or exceptionally intelligence children make up around 6 to 10 percent of the students within America, roughly 3 to 5 million students ( Gifted Education in the U.S ). Once the children have been identified, they need to have an adequate program to aid in their cognitive growth. The majority of gifted children are placed into the general education, leading to boredom. As they understand concepts faster, especially abstract, boredom sets in as the children continuously have to wait for their peers to catch up. Programs need to be made for them, as they are the future. They will aid in the development and continuation of America, far more than the average child. Several methods can be applied to a gifted program to keep the children engaged and their minds simulated. Acceleration and Enrichment are two options, with the accelerated program having the greatest positive feedback. Acceleration allows for the child to learn at a rapid pace, depending on them not their peers, while enrichment is the addition of supplement information or reading (Subotnik). Many programs in place presently have an accelerated program, but many are still too slow or parents have no knowledge of it. The programs also puts less stress on the general education teachers, especially if they don t know how to handle these students. Teachers within the program should be specialized in dealing with the gifted, allowing for a better understanding and connection between the student and teacher. And as all gifted students are different, the teachers need to be slightly flexible, but still continue along the accelerated path. The program needs to placed everywhere, and allow equal chance for everyone to get in. Many argue against these types of programs, as they make clear the separation between the elite and average (Winner). • 4. Compare And Contrast Classical And Classical Theory One of the fundamental theories of criminal behavior is the classical theory. This theory dates to the 18th century with philosopher Cesare Beccaria, who stated that human behavior is driven by the choice (Bartol Bartol, 2017). The process of making a choice is made through balancing the weight of pleasure to be gained, against the amount pain or punishment expected by the act. This concept can also be thought of as free will. Free will is found in the beginning of the Bible, in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were told they could not eat from the Tree of Good and Evil. Before eating of the tree Eve was presented with a choice, she could obey God or disobey him. Through disobedience she was promised by the serpent that she would gain knowledge. The serpent told her that if she ate of the tree that, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:5, New Revised Standard Version). However, she knew that disobedience could result in death as she had been cautioned by God, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die (Genesis 2:17, NRSV). Before choosing to eat the fruit, similar to the classical theory of crime, Eve had to balance the pleasure to be gained versus the punishment. Despite being forbidden to eat from the tree, Eve made the choice to disobey God. While classical theory resonates in the Bible, regarding man s free will. I personally lean towards a combination of the classical theory and the positivist theory. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Effect Of Light And Total Respiration Of The Plant... Intro: For all living organisms including plants, respiration is the process of converting chemical energy into a usable form of energy (Biol 171L Lab 7). Even if an organism does not have an energy source, they will keep respiring. For autotrophic plants, the process of obtaining energy is called photosynthesis. It harvests solar energy, carbon dioxide, and water to form a usable form of energy (Tanaka 2009). The factors that go into this process includes the pigment the plant possesses, and the intensity, wavelength, and direction of the light. Plants that contain the pigment chlorophyll a are the ones we see as the leaves of common trees, or grass. Because chlorophyll a takes in violet blue, and orange red lights to use in photosynthesis, it reflects green, and that is the color we see. This study investigates the relationship between the wavelength of light and the total respiration of the plant Elodea. The purpose is to see the effect of the presence or absence of certain wavelengths can have on the process of photosynthesis. Because Elodea is a plant that reflects green light, it can be assumed that red lights, the complimentary color to green will be absorbed the most contributing to the process of photosynthesis and respiration making the most oxygen. Methods: In this lab, varying wavelengths were used to test how light affects photosynthesis and respiration as a whole. The absorbance of lights from 380 nm to 720 nm of chlorophyll pigment from the Elodea sample ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explain why it would or would not work. A ROWE type program would both work and not work at my current company of Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. The success of the program would be based on the department and their functions. ROWE programs would not work in my current role as a Customer Service Coordinator. My current role is a customer facing position requiring me to physically be at work and available to the customer between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in order to answer questions, process requests, and solve any issues that may arrive with shipments or the product. My position is highly concentrated in email correspondence; other positions within my department are primarily phone based. These types of correspondences require people in the department to be accessible to answer the phones or emails and also to provide information from or enter information into SAP. SAP requires the person to be hardwired into Cooper s secure network. These two factors usually mean the person must be at the office to perform the vital duties of the job. Jobs that are customer facing or jobs that require personnel to be at a certain place at a certain time would not be ideal for ROWE. • 26. The Analytical Methods Applied On Security Pattern Data... The analytical methods applied on security pattern data yield results in the form of pattern clusters and concepts. Pattern applicability can be improved by making this classification and resulting concept knowledge readily available to practitioners. In order to make it readily available, the results must be represented in a suitable format. Further, it must be shared using a tool or technology which is easy to use and does not need any special hardware or software. In this chapter, we present our approach towards representing the gained knowledge and sharing it so that it can be accessed and used. The chapter outline is as follows. In Section 7.1, we present the knowledge discovery and its adoption for the present work. The first mining tool applied is clustering. The knowledge obtained using this mechanism is presented in Section 7.2. The second knowledge discovery technique used in the research is FCA. Section 7.3 gives an overview of the knowledge extracted using FCA. In Section 7.4, we give our views about knowledge sharing, the issues which need to be considered and our solutions to address them. The representation format for various knowledge elements is presented in Section 7.5. The knowledge search framework is presented in Section 7.6 followed by a discussion on the implementation aspects in Section 7.7. • 27. A Classical View Of The Romantic Movement Hypothesis: John Keats Odes were heavily influence by Classical ideologies which related to the wider philosophy of the Romantic Movement. This essay will apply a Classical perspective to John Keats Odes. I will examine how John Keats was inspired by the ideologies of the Greeks and Roman mythology. John Keats based his Odes on Roman myths and Greek artefacts; he used these to explore wider themes that relate to Greek Philosophy. This essay will show how Keats related the wider philosophy of the Romantic Movement to the ideologies to the Classical eras. It will also show the cultural similarities between Antiquity and 19th century Britain which evoked similar lines of thought. The similarities which characterised each of the three eras are linked by the socio cultural context of war and tyrannous government. [Holden, S, 1970; Long, AA, 1985] This led to a movement in philosophical thought in both eras that examined ways to improve the human condition. Both Keats and Greek philosophers saw attaining pleasure as the means of achieving this objective. AA Long s analysis of Epicureanism enables me to develop an understanding of Epicureanism in order for me to develop my own critical perspective on John Keats as AA long is a primary and reliable source as he is a British and American classical scholar and professor of classics. • 30. Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives. This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most frequent results. This ... • 32. Synapse Specificity Analysis Memory formation occurs through LTP. This is due to the fact that LTP is synapse specific. Synapse specificity is the process of when a synapse is stimulated, only that synapse is affected; neighboring synapses that lie close by remain unaffected.1 Extending into this topic, CaMKII, an enzyme, was found to play a major role in synapse specificity. The increase of intracellular calcium from the unblocking of the NMDA type glutamate receptors resulting in the activation of CaMKII triggers LTP. The broad question that is then addressed in Lee et al s article, Activation of CaMKII in Single Dendritic Spines during Long Term Potentiation is what makes up the foundation of synapse specificity of LTP and how does CaMKII affect synapse specificity? To answer the questions previously asked, Lee et al conducted an experiment using several methods, which include fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), two photon microscopy, photostimulation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effect of CaMKII on synapse specificity is controlled by two factors: the rate of CaMKII s inactivation and its mobility. Starting with the rate of inactivation of CaMKII, the fluorescence lifetime of the GFP, in other words, the activation of CaMKII, lasted only two minutes. This went along with the observation calcium levels fall back to initial concentrations within milliseconds. This does not allow calcium to diffuse into neighboring spines and activate CaMKII due to the short time limit. Because of the fast rate of inactivation of CaMKII, CaMKII is forced to stick to one dendritic spine. Hence why, the activation of CaMKII follows synaptic specificity. The second factor is mobility of the activation of CaMKII. Using fluorescence decay, it was concluded that CaMKII had really slow mobility of diffusion out of a dendritic spine. A lawsuit is a claim that is filed by the injured party to seek compensation from the wrongdoer over the damage incurred. There four key elements of tort law that are crucial in handling the concept (Deakin and Johnston, 2012).The duty of care, breach of duty, causation and resulting damage or injury. Individuality And Morality In A Clockwork Orange A Clockwork Orange: Individuality, Morality, and Growing Up Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork Orange, presents a struggle between animalistic urges and mechanistic society by way of the motif of a clockwork orange. Many would agree that a clock and an orange share little in common other than the fact that they may both be round. However, the organic nature of an orange combined with the precision and mechanics of a clock curiously imitates the way people respond to everyday influences. Anthony Burgess capitalizes on the differences between these two seemingly unrelated objects to present the connection between morality and conformity within the confines of the novel s narrator, Alex. Throughout the three parts of the novel, it becomes more apparent that every seemingly harmless life can be manipulated by the clockwork of society. Alex is a young boy living in the near future, whose obsession with the brutality of the world around him causes him to act violently. The portrayal of the character Alex as both a protagonist and an antagonist highlights the psychological turmoil associated with conforming to society by sacrificing either morality for individuality or individuality for morality. The word faithful is often misinterpreted as always having a positive connotation. The dictionary definition of faithful, adhering or true to fact, a standard, an original , can be interpreted more widely (Dictionary.com). My Hybrid Classroom Management Plan My hybrid classroom management plan that combines the Canter and Canter Assertive discipline style and Dreikur s Democratic Teaching and Management procedures allows me to incorporate the students opinions and ideas into the classroom rules and procedures. This allows for a sense of community and shared responsibility between both myself and the students to insure that the rules are being met. By allowing the student to have a say in how the classroom will run day to day makes them feel like they have a place and a value in the classroom. It is also important that I foster a sense of fairness by upholding the agreed upon rules without any bias so that the student know what to expect when rules and procedures are either followed or not. This helps the students feel supported in the classroom as well as nurtures a safe and inclusive learning environment. Throughout the last two field experiences my favorite part has been getting to know each of the students in the classrooms. By the end of the semester it became very hard to leave them because I had gotten attached and want to continue to watch them grow. I have a feeling that having my own set of students that I will work with every day over the course of a year will make it even hard to let go. I love just talking with my students on a daily basis. This is something I will start from day one of a new school year. I will start the school year off with focusing on just learning about the students in my care by playing ...
