Vivid Imagery In Nurse Ratched
already closed. Kesey uses vivid imagery and robust diction in order to emphasize how harsh and
manipulative Nurse Ratched is. Nurse Ratched is controlling throughout the novel. She runs the
hospital under strict circumstances. Throughout the course of the novel, Nurse Ratched sets up therapy
sessions where she forces the men to discuss personal events from their past. Through these therapy
sessions, Big Nurse is manipulative and harsh. She displays how powerful she is when she gets the
men to talk and uses shame to keep them under her control. These sessions are ironic since therapy is
meant to console patients, not make them feel overpowered and distressed. Another scene where
Nurse Ratched is emotionless, controlling, and oppressive

Princess Victoria Research Paper
As a young child, Queen Victoria had a very stringent childhood, had no secluded time to herself, and
her mother was around her all the time as she was trying to make Victoria dependent on others. Her
mother s struggle to make the child dependent have the opposite effect as Victoria grew to be
independent and encouraged herself to do new things. Queen Victoria was eighteen years old when
she ascended to the throne. As the Queen of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and
Empress of India, Victoria reigned for sixty four years; she left a great mark on Great Britain. Queen
Victoria was very headstrong as well as the longest reigning British monarch from 1837 1901. Queen

The King soon fell ill just a year before Princess Victoria s eighteenth birthday, but he was determined
not to die before she came of age in order to prevent Victoria s mother from becoming the regent. Just
weeks before Victoria s eighteenth birthday on June 20, 1837, King William IV died of heart failure.
In her diary she wrote I was awoke at 6o clock by Mamma, who told me that the Archbishop of
Canterbury and Lord Conyngham were here, and wished to see me. I got out of bed and went into my
sitting room, and alone, and saw them. Lord Conyngham then acquitted me that my poor uncle, the
King, was no more, and had expired at 12 minutes past 2 his morning, and consequently that I am
Queen. Lord Conyngham knelt down and kissed my hand, at the same time delivering to me the
official announcement of the poor King s demise. The Archbishop then told me the last details of the
last moments of my poor, good uncle; he said that he directed his mind to religion, and had died in a
perfectly happy, quiet state of mind, and was quite prepared for his death, he added that the King s
suffering at the last were not very great but that there was a food deal of uneasiness, Lord Conyngham,
whom I charged to express my feeling of condolence and sorrow to the poor Queen, returning directly
to Windsor, I then went to my room and

Summary Of Newell s Corporate Strategy
Analysis of NEWELL s Corporate Strategy Over the years, Newell Company has followed the
philosophy as described by Dan Ferguson, build on what we do best . The basic strategy was to
merchandise a multi product offering of staple products with excellent customer service to maximize
stockholder s return. This philosophy prompted the strategy of growth through acquisition, where
acquisition not only increased the product offerings to the big retailers, but also provided the
opportunity to sell other items. This strategy helped Newell diversify its portfolio of products for the
mass retailers. The rationale was that the company s large number of product range and depth would
add value to the multi product offerings and make Newell a more important supplier. Newell acquired
underperforming companies that manufactured low technology non fashionable products and added
value by improving their operational efficiency through its operational, manufacturing and distribution
capabilities. Hence, growth through acquisition was very profitable to Newell s corporate strategy.
Newell s key capabilities and resources are all aligned with its corporate strategy of growth through
acquisition and serving the mass retailers through diversified portfolios and efficient distribution
systems. Newell thrived by following a disciplined and aggressive two pronged approach of following
an established acquisition process Newellization and ensuring corporate integration across the division

1. The Commonwealth They Served
The weather was seasonally cold in Pennsylvania s Capitol late in 1914. On Sunday morning,
December 27, the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit. This reading was the lowest ever registered in
the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather station.
Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg Evening Telegraph
newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy.
During that week, Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively
mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for one
of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152 state
employees. The release of this document was a key milestone in the Commonwealth s early 20th
century effort to improve its personnel management practices.
By listing names, this document provides an opportunity to recognize the often unheralded
contributions of selected state employees assigned to organizations under the general supervision of
the Governor. The register also affords an invaluable chance to appreciate how the offices, bureaus,
and divisions make Pennsylvania work. Researching their efforts brought to light a collective
commitment to assist the public. This attribute is a common virtue among Pennsylvania state
employees, both past and present. It is the one thing

Theory Of Cardiovascular Disease
Introduction
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a global epidemic (WHO 2016). In 2012, The World Health
Organisation (2016) estimated that 17.5 million deaths were caused by cardiovascular related diseases.
In Australia, 45,000 deaths occurred in 2014 (AIHW 2016) and 4,300 Tasmanian deaths in 2010
(Tasmania Medicare Local Limited 2012). The major risk factors for developing cardiovascular
disease include, tobacco exposure, physical inactivity and consumption of foods high in artificial trans
fats. (World Heart Federation 2017). Risks of developing the disease can also be non modifiable, such
as living situations. Individuals living in low socioeconomic areas have been studied to have a higher
association with cardiovascular disease than those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory has a clear focus on the interactions that occur between an individual and their
environment. Psychological research on this theory exhibited how an environment shapes a certain
behaviour and the influences it has by making it more, or less rewarding to act in a certain way
(Nutbeam, Harris, Wise 2014). The Social Cognitive Theory can be applied to the behaviour of
smoking. In a workplace with no smoking regulations and policies, employees are more likely to be
smokers. Workplaces with strict regulations are in place, the behaviour of smoking becomes more
difficult, resulting in smoking less and the environment is more supportive for quitting (Nutbeam,
Harris, Wise 2014). The SCT identifies the relationship between people and their environment is more
subtle. It describes how the relationship is more complex. Without smoking regulations, smoking
becomes less rewarding if a significant amount of surrounding people are non smokers. If their desire
to restrict smoking is clear and assertive, individuals are more likely to modify their behaviour
(Nutbeam, Harris, Wise 2014). By understanding these interactions, the theory can be applied to
modify behaviour through health promotion interventions. Modifying social norms has been shown to
promote cessation in adults (Nutbeam, Harris, Wise

Dispersion of Different Silane Modified TiO2 Rutile...
Figure 3 shows dispersion of untreated, APS, FHES and TMSO treated TRNPs in different solvents
after centrifuging at 1000 rpm for 15 minutes. After centrifuging, if most of the particle settles down it
is an indicator of poor dispersion of the particle in the solvent. When the relatively large particles
settles down and small particles remains in the suspension it is an indicator of medium dispersion. If
all the particles remains in the solvent and no precipitation is found it is an indicator of very good
dispersion. From Figure 3 it is found that, untreated TiO2 is best dispersed in DMF and DMAc polar
aprotic solvent which is also supported from small Z average diameter and acceptable PDI value. For
untreated NP medium dispersion is found in DI water and ethanol and poor dispersion in TCB,
Toluene, DCM, choloroform, THF and isopropanol. As the untreated TRNP is hydrophilic in nature
the particles tends to disperse well in relatively polar solvent. APS treated titania nanoparticle renders
hydrophobic behavior to the surface [20] and essentially doesn t dissolve in DI water, DMF and
DMAC etc. highly polar solvent. The best solvent for APS modified titania is ethanol, isopropanol and
formic acid which is conspicuous both from digital image and small mean diameter value of the
nanoparticle. Due to the presence of NH2 functional group at the end of organic surface of APS
treated TRNPs the hydrogen bonding force is the dominant dispersion force. As a result, APS treated

The Universe is something that has been explored for years and years. Over time, our understandings
and beliefs on the Universe and our world has changed due to new technologies and discoveries. The
Big Bang Theory is one example of an concept that is actively believed within the scientific
community and has been made well known in our world today. This theory, which can be used to
explain the origin and age of our universe, has been refined over the years through a reviewing
process in the scientific community as more discoveries came in due to new technological
advancements.
Put simply, the Big Bang theory is most supported and believed theory on how the Universe began. It

The Hubble Space Telescope is a telescope that was launched into space in 1990, April 24th. Its
primary function was to take pictures of stars, planets, moons, galaxies, etc. This type of telescope is
different from a telescope such as the Hooker Telescope as it is in space, rather than on Earth, and was
used for different things. Over the many years that this extraordinary telescope has orbited in space, it
has helped scientists with many new discoveries and refined previous theories or beliefs. One of the
biggest discoveries this telescope has made is the discovery of galaxies that we did not know of
previously because they were so far away. This discovery was very important as it has lead scientists
to calculating a more accurate age of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope made this discovery
by observing Cepheid variables, which are stars with the same average brightness. Although, their
brightness is essentially the same, the stars would seem either brighter or dimmer depending on its
position in relation to Earth. For example, if one Cepheid variable was 100,000 light years away and
another Cepheid variable was 200,000 light years away, the second star would seem dimmer as it is
further away from the Earth and our perspective makes it look like it is not as bright. Scientists can
use this observation to work out around how far away a Cepheid variable, and ultimately a galaxy, is
from the Earth. Using this information and the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope,
scientists were able to work out a more accurate age of the universe which was around 13.75 billion
years old. Without this sort of technology, we wouldn t know as much about the universe as we do
now and we may not have been able to refine our knowledge on the age of the universe. To sum up,
the Hubble Space Telescope is an important piece of

The Role of Fate in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juiliet
Fate. Who would have guessed that this four letter, one syllable word would play such a big role in
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet? Many people believed that it was free choices that led to the tragic
ending of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, but it was really fate. When looking up fate using
dictionary.com, it says that fate s something that unavoidably befalls a person; fortune, but in Romeo
and Juliet, fate is reality. Perhaps the biggest and most overlooked example of fate was in the
Prologue. It tells of a death marked love which proposes the story s concept of the people s
abridgment of control in their own lives. Romeo and Juliet could not expect their death resulting from
their cherished love, just as people couldn t control their future, and when Mercutio was dying he
shouts a plague on both your houses (III. I. 104). This reminded us of Romeo and Juliet s fate. This
glimpse of this tragic scene, gives us an example of what fate has in store for Romeo and Juliet.
Mercutio blames his death on both families when he died trying to stop a fight against Romeo, a
Montague, and Tybalt, a Capulet. Fate is two sided, it could bring happiness and joy, while bringing
despair and sorrow, too. In the tale of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo attempted to defy his own fate.
However, due to his blindness and reckless love for Juliet, his actions backfired and dragged him
down to his inevitable fate; a fate that he tried so hard to avoid. Eventually, he would meet his

Internal Rhyme Scheme Of The Raven
The established works of literature in society today, allow for readers to develop their own unique
sense of interpretations of the deeper meanings of these texts. The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, is a
piece that deals with the struggle of a loved one passing and the main character s internal and mental
struggle of dealing with this scenario. Whilst, sitting amongst his gloomy, dark chamber of the hours
of midnight the traumatized male is met by a dark raven, who of which is the responder to his
thoughts out loud of the attempt of forgetting about his love named Lenore. The raven, has only yet to
reply with a single phrase. This phrase is the statement of Nevermore , displayed through the raven s
choice of words ignites the thinking process in the reader s brain, as had myself been wondering what
this exactly could signify. The first source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the text of The Raven, the tone of the scheme followed a underlying pattern relating towards
mourning and sadness. The pattern was kept flowing throughout the entirety of the poem. Poe was
able to master, through the use of literary devices, the ability to add, emotion, depth and tone to this
piece. The internal rhyme scheme creates a sense of anticipation and tension, which plays into the
external rhyme schemes as well. Lines crafted together reflect my formerly made ideas relating
towards the criticism, an example shows as the line states Once upon a midnight dreary, while I
pondered weak and weary (Poe 1. This chosen quote plays into allowing the reader to become more
engaged with the words and helps them find a pattern. Poe s repetition of sound throughout his
external rhyme schemes heighten the mourning for Lenore, as the poem states But the Raven, sitting
lonely on the placid bust, spoke only That one word, as if his soul in that world he did outpour (Poe,

Buying An Instrument Is Not An Easy Task
Buying an instrument is not an easy task. While you can walk to a shop and pick yourself a pair of
white socks without thinking about it, you don t want to do the same with a musical instrument.
If you are looking to add a bit of music to your life, then ask these ten questions before you hand out
the money.
1. Are Your Buying the Right Instrument?
Selecting a musical instrument to play is a bit like buying shoes. If you don t get the right fit, you are
most likely going to end up with an aching body and hurt feelings.
You might love the sports shoes, but if you never go running than what is the point? Even if you
dream of playing the guitar, the violin might actually suit you much better, so pick carefully.
2. Do You Want the Instrument for the Right Reason?
As well as finding the right instrument for your personality and play style, you also need to stop and
think while you are getting the instrument. Are you just buying the guitar to impress the ladies?
If you have no interest in learning the specific instrument, if there s no passion in your belly than don t
bother. You ll learn a lot faster if looking cool isn t the only reason you re picking the chosen
instrument.
3. Can You Store the Instrument?
It might sound obvious but people are sometimes silly when it comes to instruments. You might be
destined to play the piano, it might be your dream and passion, but if you live in a studio flat the size
of a small closet, you might need to put your dreams on hold.

Social Provisions Of Real And Imaginary Relationships
Everyone needs a friend, and when some children do not have friends it is hard for them to socially
mature. When imaginary companions are created, it helps develop children s social interactions.
Children learn how to interact with others and realize how others could feel emotionally in certain
situations. There is a misconceptualization that children with imaginary companions are lonely and do
not do well in social situations. Research has showed that children with imaginary companions score
higher on IQ tests and do better in social situations. Literature shows that imaginary companions are
found everywhere. Adults even have imaginary conversations. Having an imaginary companion is not
a crime and should be encouraged among young children.
Are Imaginary Relationships Based on Real Ones?
In the article, Social Provisions of Real and Imaginary Relationships in Early Childhood Gleason
states that some psychologist believe that imaginary companions are based on real relationships
children have, and that children tend to be more emotionally invested in their imaginary companions
compared to friends or family members. Children imagine conflicts usually between themselves and
their imaginary companions and the way the child reacts to such difficulties might be reflective of how
she or he understands the workings of real relationships (Gleason, 980). Usually, specific relationships
have certain citeria that has to be met in order for it to to be considered a real relationship.

Throughout the history of time, different cultures have held the title of master navigators. During the
Han Dynasty, the Chinese invented the first compass, a device made out of lodestone a naturally
magnetized metal and a bronze plate. Then, Arab mariners perfected astrological sea faring, using the
stars to guide themselves across the world s waterways. But the ancient world s true masters of
navigation were early Polynesians. While today s modern ships are covered in gadgets, this

Make a number sentence using all five cards and any operations to reach the target number. Write and
solve the equation at the bottom of the page pocket.
For example, suppose the target number is 20 and the cards in play are 5, 4, 6, 2, and Ace (in the case
making the Ace worth 1). One winning combination is: (5 x 2) + (4 + 6) / 1 = 20.
If a team is struggling to find a combination to hit the target number they can draw an additional card
from any deck and try to make a combination using six cards. This is a natural time to review Order of

A common technique for remembering the order of operations is the acronym PEMDAS , which is

Censorship In John Green s Looking For Alaska
Dear Mesa Public Schools Governing Board,
Many books have pushed the boundaries of censorship. Topics like sexuality, explicit language, and
substance use that are present in multiple pieces of literature are some of the many things that will
have a book be considered for banning. Looking For Alaska by John Green is one of those challenged
books. Although it may include sexual scenes and explicit language,it is a book that should not be
banned because of its relatable characters and important themes. First, the majority of characters in
Looking For Alaska are relatable to contemporary teens and therefore should not be banned. Miles
Halter is a teenage boy that wants something exciting to happen, I was after a Great Perhaps... (Green

One of the themes is to be strong. This is present when Miles goes to Alaska for comfort and she tells
him, Mommy ain t here so buck up big guy, (Green 27). The message is important because life is filled
with problems, but everyone has to keep going. Another theme in the book is to not think of a person
as anything but a person. This is prominent when Chip and Miles are arguing and Chip says, You don t
even care about her! All that matters is you and your precious f**cking fantasy that you and Alaska
had this godd**ned secret love affair.. (Green 170). This lesson is important because often times, teens
may look at another person and think that they are perfect when in reality they are not. These are
lessons Miles had to learn with experiences. Both messages are important especially with adolescents
because they might experience what Miles did and want guidance, which is what this book

Why College Is Not Worth It
College is not very much for everyone and doesn t have to be. College is not worth it because parents
tend to put too much pressure on their children, it is very costly, and tends to takes up a lot of our time.
One reason why college is not worth it is because of the amount of money you would have to pay. You
have to save thousands of dollars in order to get into a good college. Then you still have to pay for
books and resources, which you will owe money and go into college debt. 30% of college graduates
felt that college did not prepare them well for employment, specifically in terms of technical and

Analysis Of How Elizabeth Barrett Browning Let Me Count...
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Elizabeth Barrett Browning said that in her poem How do
I love thee? Let me count the ways. to show her love for her unnamed husband. She shows just from
that statement her love for him if she is willing to make a list solely for the ways she love him. If that
is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe even an obsession to
love her unnamed husband. The poem states that she loves him enough to make a list, that Browning
loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has taken her love of God and put
towards her love for him. Browning has just written about her obsession over her husband and how it

If she only has candlelight then it should indicate that there is no light outside and that it is the
evening. So her meaning behind the quote is that she loves him from the morning to the evening. If
that isn t enough to sound a bit weird for somebody to love another person everyday. Browning
obviously loved this man a great deal, but was a bit too much?
¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...¨. The poem
is a love poem, but at times Browning has seemed to get carried away with writing about her love for
this man. The quote states the ¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints.¨ The love
that she lost is almost certainly the of God. When she says ¨lost saints¨ a saint is a person that has a
likeness are closeness to God. A person with exceptional holiness. So when she says that ¨lost saints¨ it
should mean her lost of love towards God. So when Browning writes ¨I love thee with a love I seemed
to lose¨ then it should mean that she loves him more than God, because it seems like she has replaced
her love towards God and replaced it with her love towards him. Putting the man in her mind at a God
like state or being. So if Browning loves this

The Struggle For Lgbt Rights
The Struggle for LGBT+ Rights in America Brought together by various organizations, and united by
shared persecution, the gay community came together and pushed for their rights, and were able to
obtain them through science and litigation. The outset of the gay rights movement can be traced back
to World War I. The World War brought America out of its isolationism and exposed Americans to life
outside America. For the first time Americans saw firsthand the way countries like, England, France,
Germany, and others treated their citizens. For many Americans World War I was a catalyst for
change, and the fight for gay rights is no exception. From 1920 1923 Henry Gerber served with the

Essay about Attacks and Al-Qaeda in Northern Afghanistan
According to the New York Times, the Taliban and Al Qaeda have opened a new front in the
previously peaceful northern Afghanistan. They have also stepped up attacks in their heartland,
southern provinces. To defeat the insurgents, General McChrystal, the US commander in Kabul, has
requested 40,000 additional troops and resources to persuade the moderate Taliban to abandon
violence. But this strategy is likely to succeed only with the help from key regional states.
Increased fatalities and dwindled public support have put pressure on President Obama to end the war

America and Pakistan have different goals in Afghanistan. While Washington wants to defeat the
Taliban and Al Qaeda, Pakistan wants them to stop violence in its territories and to capture power in

perspective, the Taliban jihadists trained in Pakistani madarsas and supported by the Inter Service

All other neighbors, except China, had assisted the Northern Alliance to topple the Taliban in 2001

a Taliban ruled Afghanistan will support the jihadists in Kashmir and fan the fire of Islamic extremism

Non Greasy Pastes As Semisolid Dosage Form
Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain one or
more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes
are intended for application to the skin, oral cavity, or mucous membranes. Pastes are usually prepared
from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing homogeneously
powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for Pharmaceutical
Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy pastes which is made
from single phase aqueous gel.
Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences between
paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of finely
powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high
concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than
that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or
water soluble (glycerol or a mucilage). (Prashant, 2010)
Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for
protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body
temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. Fatty pastes that have a high proportion of
hydrophilic solids are less greasy and more

Title
You know, I just love Grace Kelly. Not because she was a princess, not because she was an actress, not
because she was my friend, but because she was just about the nicest lady I ever met. Grace brought
into my life as she brought into yours, a soft, warm light every time I saw her, and every time I saw
her was a holiday of its own. These words were echoed by James Stewart during Grace s funeral and
immortalized the image of the former Hollywood actress and beloved princess to her friends and
family (Pettinger). Princess Grace, whose birth name was Grace Kelly, lived an impactful life that will

Grace placed her and Stephanie s belongings into her Rover s backseat but soon realized that there
was not enough room to accommodate the chauffeur, Stephanie, and herself (Robinson). Grace then
made the decision to drive the car herself. As Grace was driving the Rover, she missed a difficult turn
two miles from La Turbie. The car then crashed into a safety wall and flipped several times in the air
as it tumbled 120 feet deep into trees (Robinson). Stephanie remembered that as Grace was driving,
she was complaining of a headache and soon after passed out. After regaining consciousness,
Stephania states that her mother appeared to be disoriented (Robinson). It was believed that Grace had
accidentaly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake but French doctors later concluded that Grace
had a mild cerebral hemorrhage while driving which caused her to loose control of the Rover

minutes but was not helped until moments later when people were able to understand her calls for

Citizens Of Carnage
The Mayor s Revenge It was a dark night in the City of Carnage, the city was polluted with trash,
there was unfair rights, and a bad environment. Walter, a skinny but smart person had just turned
twelve and was sleeping quietly in the orphanage. His parents had died because they were chosen for
the election. Suddenly, Walter woke up in the middle of the night and heard what sounded to be a bolt
of lightning. He shrieked, What was that. That s when he saw a bomber plane dropping radioactive
bombs. He had gathered up everybody and had evacuated everyone. A girl from the orphanage named

The, Inherit The Wind, By Jerome Lawrence And Robert E. Lee
Those who have studied history, both in school or professionally, will know that history is just a
transcript of time. In every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day, change occurs. All
turning points in history, such as the fall of Rome, or the Industrial Revolution, or the Columbian
Exchange, are just periods of time where change was taking place at a quick tempo. The 1920s are
also a turning point in the history of America; in that decade, the United States emerges victorious
from the brutality of World War I, the nineteenth amendment that allows women to vote is ratified,
and social norms are challenged. Those that could adapt to the changing times would flourish in post
war America, whereas those that could not depart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aversion the citizens have for Drummond is overturned, however, when Drummond exposes
Brady s reluctance to compromise and embrace advancement. Brady claims that the Bible should be
analyzed literally, so, to counter him, Drummond brings up several examples from the Bible that are
not scientifically possible, and rather than accepting that some of his viewpoints may have been
outdated by science, Brady resolutely forges forth with his interpretation of the Bible. His focus on
following his disproven ideals against logic ruins his credibility and, as a result, he is somewhat
shunned. The play s stage directions after Brady becomes discredited state, DRUMMOND moves out
of the courtroom, and most of the crowd goes with him; Reporters cluster tight about DRUMMOND,
pads and pencils hard at work. BRADY sits, ignored, on the witness chair... (Lawrence and Lee 102).
The inhabitants of Hillsboro start to side more with Drummond because he shows that he is open to
differing viewpoints and change. (Drummond isn t completely against the Bible, he states, The Bible
is a book. A good book. But it s not the only book (Lawrence and Lee 98).) Eventually, the jury also
determines that Drummond s logic and incorporation of new ideas is more logical than Brady s refusal
to accept any new theories. They determined that Cates was guilty because he does teach evolution,
but they only gave him a small fine, which shows their support for the progressive

Kipling And Race
The author Rudyard Kipling in his book Kim mentions race almost everywhere possible. Race is
apparently one of the important things to the author. The author at the very beginning of the book
highlights the dark tanned skin of the people as he mentions and I quote burned black as any native .
He also stresses that he himself is white. One things the author masters in his book is mentioning the
race of each and every character in the book. Let s take a look at one of the passages of the book
Though he was burned black as any native; though he spoke the vernacular by preference, and his
mother tongue in a clipped uncertain sing song; though he consorted on terms of perfect equality with

She also points out that she is not fanatic about pure British decent people and goes on to criticize
them strongly by saying that they are worse than pestilence , which means plague. The reason for his
dislike is because these people come straight from Europe to work in the Indian bureaucracy, who just
have bookish knowledge about India and its languages, but lack the real knowledge about India and its
true culture and way of living.
Race therefore is quite important and this is not the only piece of writing that gives so much
importance to race. Orientalist Constructions of India, by Ronald Inden, also stresses upon race and
can be confirmed by the following passage from the book:
And in spite of successive waves of invasion and conquest by Persians, Greeks, Scythians,
Muhammadans, the national development of the life and literature of the Indo Aryan race remained
practically unchecked and unmodified from without down to the era of British occupation. No other
branch of the Indo European stock has experienced an isolated evolution like this. (Inden 426)
In conclusion, race, religion, background, language, sexuality, plays an extremely important role in the
story, if not the most important, and the author clearly emphasizes on it despite contradictory views in

Sustainability Reporting Of The United States
Abstract
Sustainability reporting in the United States is still a work in progress. While more countries around
the world are requiring companies to report the effects of their business activities as part of their
annual report, this practice is still voluntary in the US. Even though sustainability reporting is not
required, companies generally disclose sustainable information on their websites or through social
media. Being social responsible builds a certain type of bond that brings internal and external
stakeholders together.
Many companies in the US have taken action and developed their corporate governance model that
will meet their needs as well as the needs of the people around them, thus creating a better
environment for shareholders and stakeholders. Currently, most companies that issue sustainability
reporting follow the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards guidelines. The GRI standards are
designed to achieve transparency, and it has become the most common set of standards used amongst
organizations for sustainability reporting.
This research paper was written with the purpose of providing some answers as to why sustainability
reporting in the United States should be mandated by regulators. The paper briefly describes the GRI
standards and guidelines, the benefits of sustainability reporting, some relative advantages limitations
in adopting sustainability reporting, as well as provides a few examples of companies that have

The Reasons Why United Airlines
Reasoning, Information Literacy, Communication, Scientific Literacy, Cultural Literacy, Lifelong
Personal Growth, Aviation Maintenance, Aviation Maintenance Management, and Aviation
Maintenance Safety.
To understand the reason why United Airlines (UAL) decided to implement SMS, we need to go back
and analyzed its system before it implemented SMS and also after it was implemented. To do so, we
will use critical thinking which is a disciplined process that consists of applying, and evaluating data.
According to the 2014 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) record, before SMS
was instituted at UAL, the recordable injury rate, the lost time injury, and the aircraft damage rate
were very high. But with SMS, everything started going down. For example, in 2014 the recordable
injury rate was down by 4 percent as compared to the previous year, the lost time injury and its
performing decreased by almost 24 percent. Also, the aircraft damage decreased by five percent. As
we all can see, before SMS, United had some serious problem keeping up with safety and aircraft
damages, but after SMS, we have seen some tremendous improvement in the way they managed their
safety. Now, to demonstrate the importance of the application of SMS within UAL, the student will
use quantitative reasoning, information literacy and scientific literacy. Quantitative reasoning is
defined as the ability to use technology, and current techniques to interpret information to solve
related problems.

Essay on Chaucer and the Seven Deadly Sins
Shayne White
Chaucer and the Seven Deadly Sins
In the catholic religion the seven deadly sins: envy, pride, lust, anger, sloth, greed, and gluttony are
themes that Catholics should stay away from and not abide to. In the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey
Chaucer the tales expose a common, universal truth which is the seven deadly sins. In the Tales the
characters in the stories struggle with the temptation of not obeying the sins which incorporates and
suggest why the pilgrims telling the stories are in fact on the pilgrimage.
The pilgrims in the Canterbury Tales are on a pilgrimage to Canterbury to seek spiritual renewal for
the sin or sins that they have committed. In the prologue of the Tales it writes, People long to go on ...

Also, in the Knight s Tale Theseus fills with anger towards King Creon as he slays the husbands of the
women he sees while walking around the outskirts of town and he plans that, So far as it should lie
within his might, /He would take vengeance on his tyrant King/ This Creon, till the land of Greece
should ring/ With how he had encountered him and served/ The monster with the death he had
deserved (Chaucer 29). Here Theseus commits the sin of anger and plans to take vengeance against
Creon by killing him. Chaucer portrays that the characters in the stories commit the sins involuntarily
and do it out of high emotions.
In The Mercantile Ideology in Chaucer s Shipman s Tale written by Helen Fulton she explains the
ideology of the merchant by incorporating the work and how the merchants conduct their business.
She writes that, The wealthier merchants developed a unifying ideology based on the trade and the
financial practices of his occupation. She also mentions that, other critics, working within on older
ideology of business ethics, condemn the merchant for practicing bad business (Fulton 311). Fulton
then goes on to say that, Janette Richardson [the other critic] reads the tale as a straight opposition
between spiritual goodness and the evils of materialism . And that the merchant, has blindly accepted
a worldly standard of values in place of spiritual truth; and... he is therefore doomed (Fulton 313).

The information regarding the sport is the same for females, all cars and equipment are regulated by
the NHRA commission and have nothing to do with gender. The announcers react to the female
drivers in a number of ways, the announcers don t tend to state a drivers gender is a female when she
is positioning her car at the starting line rather they let the females name speak for the driver and even
more so when name dropping professional female drivers such as Brittany Force and Courtney Force
(both daughters of NHRA legend John Force, who still races today!). Although the announcers don t
typically state genders when introducing the female racers who are on deck, they do often mention
how incredibly brave the female drivers are for choosing to pilot these insane cars as a job. The
information given for the female drivers is often age, hometown, team sponsor and how many seasons
or races the female has competed in for the specific class of car or team who works on their race cars.
The announcers also do not hesitate telling the viewer when one of the few female drivers have a
tendency to work on their cars with their pit crew rather than have their team worry about all
mechanical tasks. The media s view of a female focused or presence in NHRA does not consist of
black and white views regarding the positive and negative views of an opposite gender in the sport.

Stop And Frisk Research Paper
Stop and frisk has two components that define the stop element as well as the frisk element. The stop
element is defined as when a law enforcement officer briefly detains an individual, and the officer has
reasonable suspicion to believe a crime has occurred, is occurring, or is about to occur, and ask
questions of the individual regarding a preliminary investigation and excludes the requirement of
probable cause (Bethel, 2015). Furthermore, the frisk element may be conducted if the officer has
reasonable suspicion the individual has a weapon, and is performed as a limited pat down search of
the outer clothing on the individual detained by the officer (Bethel, 2015). If a weapon is discovered,
the officer is authorized to conduct a more in depth investigation. ... Show more content on

The same applications are among law enforcement agencies across the nation, however, every law
enforcement agency shares the same mission to protect and to serve it s jurisdiction. In my humble
opinion, the scope for stop and frisk is an essential part of law enforcement s goal of keeping their
communities safe and protecting the citizens and it s properties. Where there s smoke, there s more
than likely going to be a fire that started the smoke or a source of heat that initiated the smoke. The
bureaucratic red tape has smothered a substantial amount of police tactics in the last several years and
common sense allows us to notice a serious decrease in respect towards law enforcement as well as
limited actions law enforcement can apply to situations because they appear too militarized or
overkill. For example, it was due to stop and frisk that allowed an officer to stop and frisk a suspect
named Wayne Williams in Atlanta, Georgia, after the officer heard a splash in a river nearby and
observed Williams driving off a bridge that went over the waterway. The officer was able to initiate a
stop and frisk, that led to the discovery of a murdered victim and identified the suspect because of this
tactic (Marcou, 2010). This is only one of many incidents of how this tactic is critical for law
enforcement to apply towards their overall goal of keeping citizen s and their communities

The Racist Movement
To what extent was the rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 due to Mussolini?
The rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 was largely due to Mussolini himself. It is
worthwhile to examine the consequences of government inefficiency, the growth of the socialist
movement, the support of others as an enabling factor, but his leadership allowed the fascist party to
be relevant, and to take advantage of these other conditions. Though trasformismo and socialism did
destabilise Italian society, it was nevertheless Mussolini who offered solutions; though he assumed
control of the country through Victor Emmanuel s assent, it was him who created alliances to maintain
the position. Thus, Mussolini s opportunist outlook and his command ... Show more content on

In the countryside, the Labour Leagues, a form of rural trade union, was powerful enough to take
control of local governments in areas such as Tuscany and Emilia. In response, the squadristi attacked
the socialist leagues, encouraged by landowners and large farmers, natural supporters of the fascist
movement. By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror, thus providing
financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became tolerated and
normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership once again proved
to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took credit for their role as
protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more conservative, in accordance to
the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist programme was less important than its
spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat . Middle class voters also had cause to support
fascism in its new direction, since the government was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an
example being the Occupation of the Factories in September 1920. In fact, anyone who owned
property, or was better off than an urban worker found appeal in fascism, as it now represented anti
communism, patriotism, but above all, action. It is true that the ras had more direct control of the
squadristi, but Mussolini was the leader who united their causes to take advantage of the socialist

Music s Music On Pop Music
Most of the music on the radio today sounds very similar, and even those that sound a bit different still
have the same subject matter. It seems that the lyrics to songs don t matter much in pop culture,
judging by the songs played on pop radio that involve sex, drugs, and partying. Those like me who
truly have passion for music realize that lyrics are, in fact, important, if not the most important part of
a song. Those that are as passionate about music as I am tend to appreciate a song more if its melody
is nice and its lyrics are meaningful, rather than one or the other. Most of the overplayed music on pop
radio has lyrics that take less deep thinking than adding two plus two. On the other hand, less popular
genres of music, including indie and alternative, two genres much less likely to be found on pop radio,
incorporate some of these same themes drugs, sex, and partying are still referenced in genres other
than pop, and I refuse to lie and tell you all indie and alternative music is completely innocent and
wholesome it definitely isn t. But the themes that occur constantly in pop music are translated into
these genres in a way that means something far more in depth. For example, where a song like We
Can t Stop by Miley Cyrus blatantly states the lyric dancing with Molly and talks about how she and
her friends can do whatever they want because they re high at a party, a song like The A Team by Ed

look young and hot. These measures often include getting a membership at the local gym. Two of the
most well know gyms in the country are Average Joe s and Globo Gym. Their advertisements clearly
show that they used different techniques to attract their clientele. Globo Gym s commercial (see Link
2) originally aired as an infomercial. It opens with closeups of beautiful women and handsome men
working out on the newest athletic equipment and wearing Globo Gym brand athletic apparel. A
narrator asks the audience if they are tired of feeling ugly and out of shape. The scene cuts away to a
man running on an elliptical. He introduces himself as White Goodman, founder of Globo Gym.
Goodman speaks in a very energetic tone, occasionally placing emphasis on certain words in order to
make a point. He leads the camera on a tour of his facility, which is full of high tech equipment,
fabulous spas, and on site cosmetic centers. He tells the audience that their obesity is due to genetic
conditions, and that is only their fault if they don t hate themselves enough to change. He then shares
that he himself was once overweight, and was able to overcome this by using the Globo Gym method.
The Globo Gym infomercial makes use of many different settings and camera angles. It starts by

My Greatest Moment In School
One of the greatest moments happened when I was in the eighth grade. It was when I started wearing
the hijab for sure and I lost a lot of my friends. I felt really lonely and I started sitting by myself during
lunch for the first time ever. I stopped getting invited to birthday parties and whatnot. One day during
my English class two of my friends that weren t talking to me at the time came up to me and told me
they supported my decision. They explained to me how hard it was for them because they ve never
seen me with the hijab, but they also wanted to try it because it was new to them. My English teacher,
Mrs. Fernald overheard us talking and said: why don t you bring us hijabs tomorrow, we ll wear it
with you . I was really excited and was so happy that I started getting teary simple because I felt good
to know that I wasn t alone. The next day I brought them hijabs and put it on for them and we took a
picture together. That picture still means the world to me. I started wearing the hijab because I felt like
it was the right thing to do, but it was a hard transition. My friends kept telling me to take it off and
kept asking if I was having a bad hair day. It was hard for me to explain it to them because they kept
asking why now? It was hard to explain it to them in general. That moment showed me that my hijab
wasn t stopping me from doing anything and that people would support me if I showed them that my
hijab didn t change who I am. My Failures For my greatest personal

The Triangle Factory Fire Of 1911
The Triangle Factory Fire of 1911 The Industrial Revolution is remembered as a major turning point
in U.S. history. During this time, there were advancements in technology, an abundance of natural
resources, cheap labor and investment capital. Industrialization led to the development of factories,
which led to the increase in jobs for many immigrants. These advancements clearly overshadowed the
harsh working conditions for many of these factory workers. In 1911, The Triangle Factory Fire was a
clear representation of the dangers when the focus is on cheap labor production instead of the
wellbeing of the factory workers. The Triangle Waist Company, manufactured women s clothing and
was located in the heart of Manhattan. This company, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris,
occupied the floors of the Asch Building. The factory attracted many people in desperate need of
work. This consequently led to the workers being taken advantage of by paying them very low wages.
They often worked excessively long hours without adequate compensation, and the safety or work
conditions were also of no importance. Around the same time other factories were actually standing up
and protesting the harsh working conditions in what is known as sweatshops. Even after the
cloakmakers strike of 1910, which established a grievance system, most working conditions did not
improve. Also a lot of the workers were immigrant woman and did not have the confidence to stand up
to the factory owners. The

My Favorite Exhibit At Mauthausen
visiting competitors, there was a couple families who were coming to picnic on this field. The children
were running, screaming, and just having the time of their lives. I felt it was not the right place for this
type of activity. In fact in made me uncomfortable. Here I was trying to learn and respect the
thousands of lives lost and impacted by this horrific time where countless immoral, inhumane that acts
had been committed and here was the exact opposite. I do not know what those people were thinking,
or how they feel about the Holocaust, but this scene outraged a group of us. I found the memorials and
what is left of Mauthausen to be very educational. Our tour guide, Daniel reiterated many times that
the citizens of Mauthausen were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I disagree with Kluger who said, The various Shoah museums and reconstituted concentration camp
sites do the exact opposite. That s why I find them so hard to take; they don t take you in, they spit you
out. Moreover, they tell you what you ought to think, as no art or science museum ever does. They
impede the critical faculty (198). While I was given a great deal of information about Mauthausen in
all forms; from our tour guide, to videos, to pictures, and informational plaques; I still was not told
what to think. I was given a brief history and idea based on individual and collective memories. I was
then able to make my own conclusions. The Mauthausen Website educates its visitors on all aspects of
this former internment camp. From videos to maps to archives the website offers an extensive history
on Mauthausen from its beginning in 1938 to present day. There is a section of the site where it offers
eyewitness stories from former prisoner s experiences in Mauthausen. It not only includes written
stories and timelines, but also video footage. This footage was filmed for the Mauthausen Survivors
Documentation Project. Out of the 105,00 survivors of Mauthausen, five to ten thousand are still
living today, eight hundred of which were audio interviewed, eighty were video interviewed, and
twenty are available on the website free to the public. This type of

Analyzing Themes in William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night Essay
William Shakespeare, an English writer in the seventeenth century. He is considered to be the most
influential writer in English literature. He wrote various genres, but the common types he wrote were:
Tragedies, Comedies, and Histories. Among the many plays he wrote he wrote one his most famous
play, Twelfth Night , which he wrote during the middle of his career. Twelfth Night is considered to be
one of Shakespeare s greatest comedies that he has written. In addition to it is also the only play that
he wrote that has an alternate title which is called, Twelfth Night, or What You Will . By analyzing the
themes presented in the play: Actions of love, Gender, and madness, helps show what Shakespeare
conveyed about love. In the play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each time he go tries to woo her it always brings him more pain. So to him it seems that love is an
awful savage that keeps attacking him. On the other hand Viola, who is disguised as a man and who
falls in love with Orsino, states that, My state is desperate for my master s love (Act II. Scene II. Line
37) in which she means that she is hopelessly in love and she will do anything to gain it. This results
into violence in a later scene with her and Orsino because he thinks that Cesario (Viola) is Olivia s
lover. Viola does bring pain to Olivia due to her deception because Olivia fell quickly in love with
Cesario when he comes to woo her for Orsino. As stated, the play does have a happy ending. Those
who were set out pursuing for love got it for the most part. Orsino and Viola ended up together, Olivia
and Sebastian (Viola s twin brother) ended up together (partly because she mistakes him for Cesario),
and Maria and Sir Toby ended up together. The same could not be said for Malvolio who was in love
with Olivia. He was tricked into thinking that Olivia returned the same affections, but in it was all a
trick. Malvolio had the mindset that Olivia loved him, but Olivia just thought he was going mad so she
sent him off to this dark cell where he remained until the end of the play. Malvolio s love for Olivia
hurt him more than it did more good. He had to suffer because of his actions which portrayed him as a
fool. Love

  • 2. Vivid Imagery In Nurse Ratched already closed. Kesey uses vivid imagery and robust diction in order to emphasize how harsh and manipulative Nurse Ratched is. Nurse Ratched is controlling throughout the novel. She runs the hospital under strict circumstances. Throughout the course of the novel, Nurse Ratched sets up therapy sessions where she forces the men to discuss personal events from their past. Through these therapy sessions, Big Nurse is manipulative and harsh. She displays how powerful she is when she gets the men to talk and uses shame to keep them under her control. These sessions are ironic since therapy is meant to console patients, not make them feel overpowered and distressed. Another scene where Nurse Ratched is emotionless, controlling, and oppressive ... In her diary she wrote I was awoke at 6o clock by Mamma, who told me that the Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Conyngham were here, and wished to see me. Summary Of Newell s Corporate Strategy Analysis of NEWELL s Corporate Strategy Over the years, Newell Company has followed the philosophy as described by Dan Ferguson, build on what we do best . The basic strategy was to merchandise a multi product offering of staple products with excellent customer service to maximize stockholder s return. This philosophy prompted the strategy of growth through acquisition, where acquisition not only increased the product offerings to the big retailers, but also provided the opportunity to sell other items. This strategy helped Newell diversify its portfolio of products for the mass retailers. The rationale was that the company s large number of product range and depth would add value to the multi product offerings and make Newell a more important supplier. Newell acquired underperforming companies that manufactured low technology non fashionable products and added value by improving their operational efficiency through its operational, manufacturing and distribution capabilities. Hence, growth through acquisition was very profitable to Newell s corporate strategy. Newell s key capabilities and resources are all aligned with its corporate strategy of growth through acquisition and serving the mass retailers through diversified portfolios and efficient distribution systems. Newell thrived by following a disciplined and aggressive two pronged approach of following an established acquisition process Newellization and ensuring corporate integration across the division to support ... • 5. The United States Essay 1. The Commonwealth They Served The weather was seasonally cold in Pennsylvania s Capitol late in 1914. On Sunday morning, December 27, the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit. This reading was the lowest ever registered in the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather station. Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg Evening Telegraph newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy. During that week, Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for one of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152 state employees. The release of this document was a key milestone in the Commonwealth s early 20th century effort to improve its personnel management practices. By listing names, this document provides an opportunity to recognize the often unheralded contributions of selected state employees assigned to organizations under the general supervision of the Governor. The register also affords an invaluable chance to appreciate how the offices, bureaus, and divisions make Pennsylvania work. Researching their efforts brought to light a collective commitment to assist the public. This attribute is a common virtue among Pennsylvania state employees, both past and present. In 2012, The World Health Organisation (2016) estimated that 17.5 million deaths were caused by cardiovascular related diseases. In Australia, 45,000 deaths occurred in 2014 (AIHW 2016) and 4,300 Tasmanian deaths in 2010 (Tasmania Medicare Local Limited 2012). The major risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease include, tobacco exposure, physical inactivity and consumption of foods high in artificial trans fats. (World Heart Federation 2017). Risks of developing the disease can also be non modifiable, such as living situations. Individuals living in low socioeconomic areas have been studied to have a higher association with cardiovascular disease than those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory has a clear focus on the interactions that occur between an individual and their environment. Psychological research on this theory exhibited how an environment shapes a certain behaviour and the influences it has by making it more, or less rewarding to act in a certain way (Nutbeam, Harris, Wise 2014). The Social Cognitive Theory can be applied to the behaviour of smoking. In a workplace with no smoking regulations and policies, employees are more likely to be smokers. Workplaces with strict regulations are in place, the behaviour of smoking becomes more difficult, resulting in smoking less and the environment is more supportive for quitting (Nutbeam, Harris, Wise 2014). The SCT identifies the relationship between people and their environment is more subtle. It describes how the relationship is more complex. Without smoking regulations, smoking becomes less rewarding if a significant amount of surrounding people are non smokers. If their desire to restrict smoking is clear and assertive, individuals are more likely to modify their behaviour (Nutbeam, Harris, Wise 2014). By understanding these interactions, the theory can be applied to modify behaviour through health promotion interventions. Modifying social norms has been shown to promote cessation in adults (Nutbeam, Harris, Wise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Dispersion of Different Silane Modified TiO2 Rutile... Figure 3 shows dispersion of untreated, APS, FHES and TMSO treated TRNPs in different solvents after centrifuging at 1000 rpm for 15 minutes. After centrifuging, if most of the particle settles down it is an indicator of poor dispersion of the particle in the solvent. When the relatively large particles settles down and small particles remains in the suspension it is an indicator of medium dispersion. If all the particles remains in the solvent and no precipitation is found it is an indicator of very good dispersion. From Figure 3 it is found that, untreated TiO2 is best dispersed in DMF and DMAc polar aprotic solvent which is also supported from small Z average diameter and acceptable PDI value. For untreated NP medium dispersion is found in DI water and ethanol and poor dispersion in TCB, Toluene, DCM, choloroform, THF and isopropanol. As the untreated TRNP is hydrophilic in nature the particles tends to disperse well in relatively polar solvent. APS treated titania nanoparticle renders hydrophobic behavior to the surface [20] and essentially doesn t dissolve in DI water, DMF and DMAC etc. highly polar solvent. The best solvent for APS modified titania is ethanol, isopropanol and formic acid which is conspicuous both from digital image and small mean diameter value of the nanoparticle. Due to the presence of NH2 functional group at the end of organic surface of APS treated TRNPs the hydrogen bonding force is the dominant dispersion force. As a result, APS treated NPs ... The Big Bang Theory is one example of an concept that is actively believed within the scientific community and has been made well known in our world today. This theory, which can be used to explain the origin and age of our universe, has been refined over the years through a reviewing process in the scientific community as more discoveries came in due to new technological advancements. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hubble Space Telescope is a telescope that was launched into space in 1990, April 24th. Its primary function was to take pictures of stars, planets, moons, galaxies, etc. This type of telescope is different from a telescope such as the Hooker Telescope as it is in space, rather than on Earth, and was used for different things. Over the many years that this extraordinary telescope has orbited in space, it has helped scientists with many new discoveries and refined previous theories or beliefs. One of the biggest discoveries this telescope has made is the discovery of galaxies that we did not know of previously because they were so far away. This discovery was very important as it has lead scientists to calculating a more accurate age of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope made this discovery by observing Cepheid variables, which are stars with the same average brightness. Although, their brightness is essentially the same, the stars would seem either brighter or dimmer depending on its position in relation to Earth. For example, if one Cepheid variable was 100,000 light years away and another Cepheid variable was 200,000 light years away, the second star would seem dimmer as it is further away from the Earth and our perspective makes it look like it is not as bright. Scientists can use this observation to work out around how far away a Cepheid variable, and ultimately a galaxy, is from the Earth. Using this information and the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, scientists were able to work out a more accurate age of the universe which was around 13.75 billion years old. Without this sort of technology, we wouldn t know as much about the universe as we do now and we may not have been able to refine our knowledge on the age of the universe. • 9. The Role of Fate in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juiliet Fate. Who would have guessed that this four letter, one syllable word would play such a big role in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet? Many people believed that it was free choices that led to the tragic ending of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, but it was really fate. When looking up fate using dictionary.com, it says that fate s something that unavoidably befalls a person; fortune, but in Romeo and Juliet, fate is reality. Perhaps the biggest and most overlooked example of fate was in the Prologue. It tells of a death marked love which proposes the story s concept of the people s abridgment of control in their own lives. Romeo and Juliet could not expect their death resulting from their cherished love, just as people couldn t control their future, and when Mercutio was dying he shouts a plague on both your houses (III. I. 104). This reminded us of Romeo and Juliet s fate. This glimpse of this tragic scene, gives us an example of what fate has in store for Romeo and Juliet. Mercutio blames his death on both families when he died trying to stop a fight against Romeo, a Montague, and Tybalt, a Capulet. Fate is two sided, it could bring happiness and joy, while bringing despair and sorrow, too. In the tale of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo attempted to defy his own fate. However, due to his blindness and reckless love for Juliet, his actions backfired and dragged him down to his inevitable fate; a fate that he tried so hard to avoid. Eventually, he would meet his ... The internal rhyme scheme creates a sense of anticipation and tension, which plays into the external rhyme schemes as well. Lines crafted together reflect my formerly made ideas relating towards the criticism, an example shows as the line states Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary (Poe 1. While you can walk to a shop and pick yourself a pair of white socks without thinking about it, you don t want to do the same with a musical instrument. If you are looking to add a bit of music to your life, then ask these ten questions before you hand out the money. 1. Are Your Buying the Right Instrument? Selecting a musical instrument to play is a bit like buying shoes. If you don t get the right fit, you are most likely going to end up with an aching body and hurt feelings. You might love the sports shoes, but if you never go running than what is the point? Even if you dream of playing the guitar, the violin might actually suit you much better, so pick carefully. 2. Do You Want the Instrument for the Right Reason? As well as finding the right instrument for your personality and play style, you also need to stop and think while you are getting the instrument. Are you just buying the guitar to impress the ladies? If you have no interest in learning the specific instrument, if there s no passion in your belly than don t bother. You ll learn a lot faster if looking cool isn t the only reason you re picking the chosen instrument. 3. Can You Store the Instrument? It might sound obvious but people are sometimes silly when it comes to instruments. You might be destined to play the piano, it might be your dream and passion, but if you live in a studio flat the size of a small closet, you might need to put your dreams on hold. ... When imaginary companions are created, it helps develop children s social interactions. Children learn how to interact with others and realize how others could feel emotionally in certain situations. There is a misconceptualization that children with imaginary companions are lonely and do not do well in social situations. Research has showed that children with imaginary companions score higher on IQ tests and do better in social situations. Literature shows that imaginary companions are found everywhere. Adults even have imaginary conversations. Having an imaginary companion is not a crime and should be encouraged among young children. Are Imaginary Relationships Based on Real Ones? In the article, Social Provisions of Real and Imaginary Relationships in Early Childhood Gleason states that some psychologist believe that imaginary companions are based on real relationships children have, and that children tend to be more emotionally invested in their imaginary companions compared to friends or family members. Children imagine conflicts usually between themselves and their imaginary companions and the way the child reacts to such difficulties might be reflective of how she or he understands the workings of real relationships (Gleason, 980). If that is true from the poem, it show that Browning has a problem with man. Maybe even an obsession to love her unnamed husband. The poem states that she loves him enough to make a list, that Browning loves the man from night to day, and lastly she writes that she has taken her love of God and put towards her love for him. Browning obviously loved this man a great deal, but was a bit too much? ¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath...¨. The poem is a love poem, but at times Browning has seemed to get carried away with writing about her love for this man. The quote states the ¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose. A person with exceptional holiness. So when she says that ¨lost saints¨ it should mean her lost of love towards God. So when Browning writes ¨I love thee with a love I seemed to lose¨ then it should mean that she loves him more than God, because it seems like she has replaced her love towards God and replaced it with her love towards him. While Washington wants to defeat the Taliban and Al Qaeda, Pakistan wants them to stop violence in its territories and to capture power in Kabul. Islamabad sees the Afghan war as an opportunity to strengthen its military, with Western support, to fend off India and lean on New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir dispute. From Pakistan s perspective, the Taliban jihadists trained in Pakistani madarsas and supported by the Inter Service Intelligence, the military spy agency will make the best allies in Kabul and help augment the anti Indian jihad in Kashmir. All other neighbors, except China, had assisted the Northern Alliance to topple the Taliban in 2001 and still oppose their victory. India, the regional hegemon with broad influence in South Asia, believes a Taliban ruled Afghanistan will support the jihadists in Kashmir and fan the fire of Islamic extremism elsewhere. Iran fears that the Taliban will foment troubles in its Sunni areas, and Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are afraid that a Taliban state will motivate their extremists to pursue a similar goal. All these nations had helped the Northern Alliance to topple the Taliban in 2001. • 22. Non Greasy Pastes As Semisolid Dosage Form Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain one or more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009) Pastes are intended for application to the skin, oral cavity, or mucous membranes. Pastes are usually prepared from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing homogeneously powdered drug with the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for Pharmaceutical Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy pastes which is made from single phase aqueous gel. Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences between paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of finely powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or water soluble (glycerol or a mucilage). (Prashant, 2010) Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. All turning points in history, such as the fall of Rome, or the Industrial Revolution, or the Columbian Exchange, are just periods of time where change was taking place at a quick tempo. The 1920s are also a turning point in the history of America; in that decade, the United States emerges victorious from the brutality of World War I, the nineteenth amendment that allows women to vote is ratified, and social norms are challenged. While more countries around the world are requiring companies to report the effects of their business activities as part of their annual report, this practice is still voluntary in the US. Even though sustainability reporting is not required, companies generally disclose sustainable information on their websites or through social media. Being social responsible builds a certain type of bond that brings internal and external stakeholders together. Many companies in the US have taken action and developed their corporate governance model that will meet their needs as well as the needs of the people around them, thus creating a better environment for shareholders and stakeholders. Currently, most companies that issue sustainability reporting follow the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards guidelines. The GRI standards are designed to achieve transparency, and it has become the most common set of standards used amongst organizations for sustainability reporting. To understand the reason why United Airlines (UAL) decided to implement SMS, we need to go back and analyzed its system before it implemented SMS and also after it was implemented. To do so, we will use critical thinking which is a disciplined process that consists of applying, and evaluating data. According to the 2014 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) record, before SMS was instituted at UAL, the recordable injury rate, the lost time injury, and the aircraft damage rate were very high. But with SMS, everything started going down. For example, in 2014 the recordable injury rate was down by 4 percent as compared to the previous year, the lost time injury and its performing decreased by almost 24 percent. Also, the aircraft damage decreased by five percent. As we all can see, before SMS, United had some serious problem keeping up with safety and aircraft damages, but after SMS, we have seen some tremendous improvement in the way they managed their safety. Now, to demonstrate the importance of the application of SMS within UAL, the student will use quantitative reasoning, information literacy and scientific literacy. Furthermore, the frisk element may be conducted if the officer has reasonable suspicion the individual has a weapon, and is performed as a limited pat down search of the outer clothing on the individual detained by the officer (Bethel, 2015). By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror, thus providing financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became tolerated and normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership once again proved to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took credit for their role as protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more conservative, in accordance to the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist programme was less important than its spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat . Middle class voters also had cause to support fascism in its new direction, since the government was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an example being the Occupation of the Factories in September 1920. It seems that the lyrics to songs don t matter much in pop culture, judging by the songs played on pop radio that involve sex, drugs, and partying. Those like me who truly have passion for music realize that lyrics are, in fact, important, if not the most important part of a song. Those that are as passionate about music as I am tend to appreciate a song more if its melody is nice and its lyrics are meaningful, rather than one or the other. • 42. My Greatest Moment In School One of the greatest moments happened when I was in the eighth grade. It was when I started wearing the hijab for sure and I lost a lot of my friends. I felt really lonely and I started sitting by myself during lunch for the first time ever. I stopped getting invited to birthday parties and whatnot. One day during my English class two of my friends that weren t talking to me at the time came up to me and told me they supported my decision. They explained to me how hard it was for them because they ve never seen me with the hijab, but they also wanted to try it because it was new to them. My English teacher, Mrs. Fernald overheard us talking and said: why don t you bring us hijabs tomorrow, we ll wear it with you . I was really excited and was so happy that I started getting teary simple because I felt good to know that I wasn t alone. The next day I brought them hijabs and put it on for them and we took a picture together. That picture still means the world to me. I started wearing the hijab because I felt like it was the right thing to do, but it was a hard transition. My friends kept telling me to take it off and kept asking if I was having a bad hair day. It was hard for me to explain it to them because they kept asking why now? It was hard to explain it to them in general. That moment showed me that my hijab wasn t stopping me from doing anything and that people would support me if I showed them that my hijab didn t change who I am. • 44. The Triangle Factory Fire Of 1911 The Triangle Factory Fire of 1911 The Industrial Revolution is remembered as a major turning point in U.S. history. During this time, there were advancements in technology, an abundance of natural resources, cheap labor and investment capital. Industrialization led to the development of factories, which led to the increase in jobs for many immigrants. These advancements clearly overshadowed the harsh working conditions for many of these factory workers. In 1911, The Triangle Factory Fire was a clear representation of the dangers when the focus is on cheap labor production instead of the wellbeing of the factory workers. The Triangle Waist Company, manufactured women s clothing and was located in the heart of Manhattan. This company, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, occupied the floors of the Asch Building. The factory attracted many people in desperate need of work. This consequently led to the workers being taken advantage of by paying them very low wages. They often worked excessively long hours without adequate compensation, and the safety or work conditions were also of no importance. Around the same time other factories were actually standing up and protesting the harsh working conditions in what is known as sweatshops. Even after the cloakmakers strike of 1910, which established a grievance system, most working conditions did not improve. Also a lot of the workers were immigrant woman and did not have the confidence to stand up to the factory owners. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. My Favorite Exhibit At Mauthausen visiting competitors, there was a couple families who were coming to picnic on this field. The children were running, screaming, and just having the time of their lives. I felt it was not the right place for this type of activity. In fact in made me uncomfortable. Here I was trying to learn and respect the thousands of lives lost and impacted by this horrific time where countless immoral, inhumane that acts had been committed and here was the exact opposite. I do not know what those people were thinking, or how they feel about the Holocaust, but this scene outraged a group of us. I found the memorials and what is left of Mauthausen to be very educational. Our tour guide, Daniel reiterated many times that the citizens of Mauthausen were ... That s why I find them so hard to take; they don t take you in, they spit you out. Moreover, they tell you what you ought to think, as no art or science museum ever does. They impede the critical faculty (198). While I was given a great deal of information about Mauthausen in all forms; from our tour guide, to videos, to pictures, and informational plaques; I still was not told what to think. I was given a brief history and idea based on individual and collective memories. I was then able to make my own conclusions. The Mauthausen Website educates its visitors on all aspects of this former internment camp. From videos to maps to archives the website offers an extensive history on Mauthausen from its beginning in 1938 to present day. There is a section of the site where it offers eyewitness stories from former prisoner s experiences in Mauthausen. It not only includes written stories and timelines, but also video footage. This footage was filmed for the Mauthausen Survivors Documentation Project. Out of the 105,00 survivors of Mauthausen, five to ten thousand are still living today, eight hundred of which were audio interviewed, eighty were video interviewed, and twenty are available on the website free to the public. Each time he go tries to woo her it always brings him more pain. So to him it seems that love is an awful savage that keeps attacking him. On the other hand Viola, who is disguised as a man and who falls in love with Orsino, states that, My state is desperate for my master s love (Act II. Scene II. Line 37) in which she means that she is hopelessly in love and she will do anything to gain it. This results into violence in a later scene with her and Orsino because he thinks that Cesario (Viola) is Olivia s lover. Viola does bring pain to Olivia due to her deception because Olivia fell quickly in love with Cesario when he comes to woo her for Orsino. As stated, the play does have a happy ending. Those who were set out pursuing for love got it for the most part. Orsino and Viola ended up together, Olivia and Sebastian (Viola s twin brother) ended up together (partly because she mistakes him for Cesario), and Maria and Sir Toby ended up together. The same could not be said for Malvolio who was in love with Olivia. He was tricked into thinking that Olivia returned the same affections, but in it was all a trick. Malvolio had the mindset that Olivia loved him, but Olivia just thought he was going mad so she sent him off to this dark cell where he remained until the end of the play. Malvolio s love for Olivia hurt him more than it did more good. He had to suffer because of his actions which portrayed him as a fool. Love ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
