2. Examples Of Police Militarization
It has become more prevalent in recent times of discussion to look at the increase in militarization of
police forces. The term police militarization often brings with it a stigma on the social aspect which
revolves around brutality and a lack of rights. One must ask first what is defined as police
militarization. Police militarization or to militarize is defined as Give (something, especially an
organization) a military character or style. This means that police militarization in essence is the
conversion from the beat cop into a police force that is organized and managed under a military
model. A militaristic model is seen as being focused on solving problems through the use of force as
the best solution. With that in mind we are now able to identify police departments that are organized
under these beliefs. Through the observations of the culture, organization, and material aspects one
could safely gather the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the idea is to go back in with officers who are more oriented in community policing. The
problem with this tactic is that it is hard for a lot of the departments to understand when the proper
time is to take out the tactical teams and insert the community teams. One of the perceived negative
impacts of this culture involving militarization state the possibility that it forces officers into believing
that they are to treat the people they serve as enemy combatants. Militarization of policing encourages
officers to adopt a warrior mentality and think of people the people they are supposed to serve as
enemies (ACLU 2). It is important to keep those ideals in check in order to prevent hostilities that
prevent a department from adequately communicating with its

3. Coyote Omnivore
The Coyote, part of the biological family of canidae, look appears in between a wolf and fox, and is an
opportunistic omnivore predator and scavenger that it s native in North America. Coyote are highly
adaptable species, even when it moves into human occupied territory. They adjust their hunting
techniques to whatever prey they laid its eye onto. For hunting smaller prey alone, they usually stalk
behind the prey and pounce onto them; for bigger prey such as deer, they hunt in small packs and take
down the prey as one. Because of their ability of adapting most habitats, like deserts, plains, and
grasslands, they can spread their habitat range all across the continent, even in large cities in urban
area (Baker Bonine 2015). Originating in the west of North America, the coyote spread eastward into
Ontario, and continue move forwards to Quebec and other eastern provinces (Dumancic Caverley,
2014). In recent decades, coyote had expanded its range and habitat though its local area, thereby

4. Cinematography In The Great Gatsby
. The 2013 film is full of excess, there is excess of sounds, color and visual effects. The era, in which
the film, and the novel take place, is the era of excess, the characters live excessive lives, thus the
cinematography helps create a feeling of excess that runs through the film. The 1970s was the age of
the zoom lense in cinema. In Clyton and Coppola s version, the scene where Gatsby and Daisy meet
for the first time, there is a close up on their facial expressions. This helps the audience to understand
the emotion that both characets are feeling and alsp it creates an intimacy between the two. In contrast,
the 2013 version there are wider shots of characters positionnig which allows the audience to see the

5. Conversion Therapy Argumentative Analysis
On December 24, 2014, Leelah Alcorn, a transgender teenager, committed suicide by jumping in front
of oncoming traffic. She had wrote in her suicide note that was posted online that she ended her own
life because her parents did not accept her as transgender and they also tried to send her to a Christian
conversion therapy to fix her. She wanted the world to understand that no one can change her and she
wanted her story to inspire others to take action against conversion therapies. She also wanted other
members of the LGBT+ community to feel okay with themselves. Many people who hear of this story
do not even know what conversion therapy is, even though it does play a very important part of her
story. Conversion therapy is described as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banning these therapies allows professional, trained therapists help others be more comfortable with
themselves. Also, it would help limit the amount of young teens being forced to change and help
homosexual and transgender people not have such a large risk of depression or other confidence
issues. If conversion therapies are continued to be allowed in the United States, more of these
problems will arise and it may be too late to fix them. As Leelah Alcorn wrote in her suicide note, [if
you are] against transgender people don t ever say that to someone, especially your kid. That won t do
anything but make them hate them self. That s exactly what it did to me ( Suicide Note ). Though
conversion therapy is not the main cause of suicide among teens, it obviously plays a big role. People
need to see and understand that being homosexual, transgender, or anything in between is not an
illness and no one should have to change for someone else. It s time that the United States come

7. Abandonment And Abandonment In Frankenstein
Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley in 1817, is a story of obsession, heartache, abandonment,
vanity, and more. This is a fiction with many levels and views for people of all ages, and it was
assigned to our Senior English class. The novel is centered around the story of Victor Frankenstein
and his creation and the many trials and affairs they go through. Throughout the story, both characters
make many choices that they shouldn t. However, when you take into account all of the events that
lead to those poor choices, I believe it s the creation that is most justified. To be abandoned and hated
simply because of your appearance, something you had no control over and can t change, is enough to
turn anyone into a vengeful soul. This story starts out with letters from Captain Walton talking to his
sister about a strange man they found on an iceberg. This strange man had a very dark and desolate
story, and it was time it be told. This man was Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein was a scientist with a
dismal past, and it all started with a bolt of lighting. After seeing a bolt of lightning strike a tree by his
home, Frankenstein became obsessed with electricity, and throughout the story, his obsession grew to
include all kinds of social sciences and the like. This leads him to college, and eventually to the worst
decision of his life.
Victor makes catastrophic choice when he decides that he wants to make a new life form. Frankenstein
becomes obsessed with making this new being

9. The Response Of The Sciatic Nerve
The study of the response of the sciatic nerve and the neuromuscular to the Rana pipens was
constructed by the Comparative Animal Physiology lab manual for both the nerve compound action
potential (Lab five) and the neuromuscular junction (Lab six) (Norris, et al.,2016). In order to analyze
the responses of the sciatic nerve and the gastrocnemius of a Rana pipens, one exercise was selected
from Lab five and five exercises were selected from Lab six. Both lab five and Lab six had a study
length of three weeks to be performed. Therefore, the first experiment focused on the nerve compound
action potentials, while the second experiment focus on the neuromuscular junction. In the first
experiment, the only exercise analyzed (Exercise one), was the determination of the threshold voltage
and the relationship between stimulus intensity and compound action potentials(CAP). On the second
experiment, five exercises were analyzed, these experiments focused on the stimulus intensity and
strength of contraction, the effect of stretch on contractile force, the effect of paired pulses on
contraction force(summation), muscle tetanus, and muscle and nerve fatigue. In lab five, exercise one,
which focused on the determination of the threshold voltage and the relationship between stimulus and
intensity and CAP of the Rana pipens the materials used were; a computer system, PowerLab with

Wernher Von Braun was born in March 23, 1912 in Wirsitz, Prussia, Germany. Today, he is known as
the aerospace engineer behind many of NASA s rocket designs, including, most notably, the Saturn V
rockets that took astronauts to the Moon. However, as a child, his interests varied and he had changing
career ambitions. Though he was always interested in astronomy and rocketry, he did not perform well
in his math and science classes. However, after acquiring an aerospace engineering and astronomy
book, he began to take his studies more seriously. Initially, Von Braun designed military rockets for
the Nazi s, the most infamous of which was the V 2 rocket. While there is some uncertainty as to
whether or not he believed in Nazi ideology, he worked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and his colleagues got academics, civilian engineers, and military engineers up to speed on how to

utilized as a missile platform for the US military s first ballistic nuclear missile. Later, he modified his
initial Redstone rocket design to make the Jupiter C rocket, which propelled the United States
Explorer 1 satellite to space. During this time, he created very detailed plans for different space
missions. Specifically, he designed a mission to put a space station that generated artificial gravity into
orbit that would serve a platform for astronauts to then be sent to the Moon. He also had detailed plans
on making a lunar base where astronauts could use the base as another launch point to other places in
the solar system and to perform scientific experiments on the Moon s low gravity environment. He
even had plans to send astronauts to Mars using his space station as a launchpad, which was
something that no one at the time was talking about or even considering. In fact, he was the first
person to perform a detailed analysis of traveling to Mars. Although he had designed these missions
with great detail and accounting for much of the logistics of these missions, the US military was not
interested in them since they did not believe it was necessary to focus on such things at that time.
However, when the Russians sent the Sputnik satellite into space, the United States created NASA in
1958 in order to compete with the Russians with the aim of beating them in the space race. When the
Marshall Space Flight Center was opened, Wernher Von Braun became the director of the facility.
There he further worked on different rocket designs which included the Saturn V rocket. The Saturn V

11. Self-Regulation Accreditation
Fourth, a self regulation accreditation system benefits higher education and the public because it uses
a more adequate measure of quality. The traditional accreditation process focuses on quality and
institutional improvement while a government accreditation system would focus on compliance and
economically driven measures of quality. Often these approaches have conflicting purposes and
outcomes. As Wolff stated, When accreditation is seen primarily as a compliance driven exercise to
demonstrate the achievement of minimum standards and no more, it becomes like a trip to the dentist:
a necessary task but one that should take as little time and cause as little pain as possible (p. 87). Thus,
rather than raising academic quality, institutions under a government accrediting system would have
little incentive to exceed established standards or focus on continuous improvement efforts, negatively
impacting the value of a college degree.
Additionally, a government accrediting system that focuses on economically driven measures of value
would provide an incomplete picture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Zumeta (2005) reported, the decline in degree completion rates is, in part, due to institutions
enrolling more disadvantaged students; however, elite institutions have higher graduation rates. Thus,
the surest route to success is to reduce the risk profile of the students admitted (p. 50). Because
retention and graduation rates are significantly influenced by the characteristics of the students they
admit, institutions would be forced to admit fewer disadvantaged students in order to meet
accreditation standards. Rather than increasing diversity on college campuses, such actions would
likely further stratify student bodies socioeconomically across these different types of schools (p. 50).
This has far reaching implications for higher

Another element from the conversation that makes sense to me, and I will be more conscious of in the
future, is the explanation of how our clients not reaching their goals, or not being able to achieve a
certain task, as an opportunity to explore why not and to give them more positive reinforcements
rather than to count not accomplishing tasks as failures against them (Quartz, March 7, 2016). I can
see these practices as ways to build trust and cooperation within the worker client relationship.

Another element that I will use in future practice, that I was aware of in another context, is part of the
relationship building process of supporting the client coming to terms with their history, the present
situation, and their future. We discussed using timeframes to help clients with this process, which is
something I had not thought of to use in the context of this course but it makes sense and I will use it
in the future. In policy analyse and political science, this method is used in understanding policies, the
history of wars, revolutions, and social movements so of course it makes sense to apply it to clients
with tumultuous histories to help them understand where their current challenges stem from and to
support their moving forward I can see the process of healing and moving forward as somewhat of a
personal revolution.

trained to preform during service assessments but with a strengths base approach and viewed through
the lens of client centered and general systems theories, which I find to be complementary
accompaniments to Trotter s approach. One of the suggestions that I found helpful and will

Abstract
John Gatto, a school teacher in the Manhattan area, taught for thirty years at a variety of different
schools. During these years, he realized that children were frequently bored with classroom activities
as a result of how they were being taught. Students were not being challenged and often already knew
the concepts behind the materials taught. Jean Anyon further supports and agrees with Gatto s
statements about the public school system. In her article, she specifies that schools in wealthy ... Show

In other words, compulsory education is designed to keep the majority of the population in the lower
class by making children manageable. Students are separated out according to intellectual abilities,
social class, and even by the Darwinian theory of the favorite race. The children are then further sorted
based on subject, grades, ranking on tests, or by other means, allowing schools to control who will
advance or stay behind. Compulsory education is intended to prevent children from ever truly growing
up or seeking their potential in life. The outcome of this is that they are not advancing to become
complete adults in our society. As Dr. Inglis said if children could be cloistered with other children,
stripped of responsibility and independence, encouraged to develop only the trivializing emotions of
greed, envy, jealousy, and fear, they would grow older but never truly grow up. (Inglis, A., 1918)
The first of the six purposes, the adjustive or adaptive function, is used to establish fixed habits of
reaction to authority. Gatto feels this is directly connected to why children are frequently bored in
school. He claims that this prevents critical thinking altogether and does away with the idea that useful
and interesting subjects should be taught because as he states, you can t test for reflexive obedience
until you know whether you can make kids learn, and

17. The Lasting Effect Of Adolf Hitler And The Holocaust
Many religious conflicts are built from prejudice. However, only few will have a lasting effect on the
world s history. In Germany in the year 1933, a man named Adolf Hitler rose to power. His mission
would be to exterminate all minorities, but most importantly, the Jews. Holocaust is a word of Greek
origin meaning sacrifice by fire . But as we now know in history, the Holocaust was the genocide of
six million Jews by Hitler and the Nazi regime. Over the time of Hitler s reign, the Jewish population
would be stripped of their rights, dignity, and most preciously their lives.
At the end of WWI, Germany was directly blamed for causing the great conflict. Many Germans could
not accept this blame, and believed designed by the Jewish people as part of a greater conspiracy.
Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. The Nazi rise to power ended
the Weimar Republic, the German democracy that was established after World War I. The Nazi state,
also called The Third Reich, quickly became a regime in which citizens had no guaranteed basic
rights. Hitler s first objective was to eliminate political opposition. The assault against the Jews began
with a boycott of Jewish businesses. A week later the Nazis dismissed Jews from civil service, and by

Woodstock was the coalescing of the most influencing artists of their decade making an impact on
their world; James learned from this event how music was more than just an art form but an
outpouring of raw emotion. He learned of the power of music. Woodstock was stationed on a 600 acre

transformed into a cultural mecca for peace, love and antiwar sentiments. (Sanjek) The youth
counterculture was able to experience musicians such as Joan Baez, Creedence Clearwater Revival,
The Grateful Dead and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. (Festival concludes) For James, just beginning
his adult life, these bands brought on new ideas he never quite imagined were possible. It was due to
the fact that he had grown up with parents who lived in an era of conformity. Thus he never
experienced this type of self expression and open anger with the American Government.
Experimentation with oneself was not permissible. Questioning the government was not thought of
and individuals could not make a difference. Woodstock provided

I would like to see in Paxon. Ever since I attended Paxon my freshmen year I observed that the
involvement in student activities around campus started to decline, to be able to gain the interaction
this school year would make students high school experience more fun. Also it would be nice to have
a few more pep rallies, than twice a year and I feel as if they are mainly focused on the athletes most
of the time and not recognizing other students who do not play sports. Yes, I am aware that it is
important not to miss class but, it would be reasonable if there were sort of activity before breaks to
get students pumped up and to release the stress they have been having over homework, test, quizzes,
etc. And not to compare it to our rival school Stanton, they have way more activities and rallies, such
as winter fest and multi for their students and I am sure that they have more activities, yet they are one
of the top schools in the country. Since our school is not as involved as theirs, having some sort of

She was demanded excellence in everything that she did, but despite these demanding expectations,
Amy Chua was proud and even found strength and confidence in her peculiar family (Chua 17).
Seeing how positively Chinese parenting affected her, Chua decided to use the method on her two

25. Analysis Of Homer s The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey is about Odysseus s journey back home after war. Just like in every journey,
Odysseus changes as the story progresses but the one the thing that does not change is the use of his
mind and sharp witted he is. There is an underlying theme of body versus mind in this epic. This
theme is noticeable in book eight lines 174 to 194. In this passage Odysseus is responding to
Làodamas s challenge of joining in their games. In Odysseus s response he focuses on birth, brains, or
speech and brings up the question of which is more important body or mind. Through his choice of
wording and a few metaphors, Odysseus makes it seem like the mind is more important to him all
within twenty lines.
The structure and progression of this passage lends an outlook on Odysseus s thoughts towards the
idea of body versus mind. Odysseus bases this passage off of birth, brains, or speech and then builds
on that with examples. This passage can then essentially be broken down into four separate parts.
Odysseus begins with an example of a man that is a master of speech and through his speech he can
seem beautiful to people. Then Odysseus briefly speaks about an actual handsome man who does not
have the ability to speak eloquently. For his third example, he does not use a random man but instead
directly targets Làodamas and how unintelligible he is. The final section of this passage is a reflection
of Odysseus s emotions towards what Làodamas has said to him.
Since Odysseus s

Many employees felt they were doing all of the work and should get the bonuses, not management.
This plan led to the employees feeling as though they were not treated fairly because of the many rate
changes. The employees did not have input into the plan and felt management was playing games with
the formula. Most of us like to be valued as an employee and a person. This plan did not allow the
employees to feel this way. As the morale dropped, so did production and from there, the bonuses
dwindled. Instead of looking at themselves for the lack of bonuses, they blamed management. Their
lack of understanding on the rate changes did not help the process. According to Maslow s Hierarchy,
the employees needs were not met and frustration created tension, which created low to no production.
The company faced major decisions and needed this situation to be resolved quickly. The managers
faced a crisis and needed a solution before the plant was forced to close its doors and have to lay off
the employees. The Scanlon plan created problems within the company and questions had to be
formulated and put into place to be addressed before any major decisions could be made. Although the
Scanlon plan was a good plan, it was not a one size fits all plan. Changes needed to be made and what
type of changes had to be addressed. Some of the other difficulties facing the company was, no

It is an exciting moment because it is one of the first times that Edna Pontellier, the protagonist, feels
giddy with herself and her accomplishments.
In the preceding passage, Edna Pontellier swims for the first time by herself. Much is symbolized and
foreshadowed in this passage. Throughout the summer, Edna s husband, Mr. Pontellier, and many
other people have been trying to teach her. However, Edna was never able to swim with the help of
others. The fact that she finally is able to swim unaided symbolizes Edna s awakening sense of
independence and self reliance. The ocean parallels Edna s feelings. It is described with diction such
as space and solitude , vast expanse and unlimited. The words significant import...given her to control
the working of her body and her soul also support this. Edna realizes she is in control of herself and
can attain happiness by her own means. Similarly, the control Edna has over her body suggests her
awakening sense of sexuality. It is around the time of this swim that Edna acutely develops feelings
for Robert LeBrun.
The ocean that Edna swims in could also symbolize her awakening as a rebirth of herself. She is
described as a tottering, stumbling, clutching child when in the water. Throughout the novel, Edna is

The hypothesis stated was proven correct. It was hypothesized that if the distance between a light

from a lamp. The temperature of every thermometer was recorded at every minute for 10 minutes. The
data collected from the lab supports the hypothesis stated. At the beginning of the experiment, the

Knowing that the closer an object is to a heat source the greater its temperature is, data from the last
experiment can be used to form a hypothesis for the second part of the lab. In the next experiment, a
heat source would be on for 10 minutes and a prediction would be made for which distance from the
source would hit 28 degrees Celsius after 10 minutes. The hypothesis stated was proven correct. It was
hypothesized that if after 10 minutes a target temperature of 28 degrees Celsius had to be reached,
then it would be reached at 30 centimeters away from the heat source. This is because the data from
the first experiment stated that at 10 minutes, the thermometer 20 centimeters away from the lamp
read 34 degrees Celsius, and the thermometer 40 centimeters away from the lamp read 27 degrees
Celsius. Therefore, the hypothesis was based on the data from the first experiment. The data collected
from the second experiment supported the hypothesis stated. Before the lamp was turned on, the
thermometer read 20 degrees Celsius. It was placed 30 centimeters away from the lamp. At 5 minutes,
the thermometer read 28 degrees Celsius. At 10 minutes, the thermometer read 28 degrees Celsius.

30. Romantic Relationship And Romantic Relationships
Multitude of studies have measured aspects that impact people s relationship with others. A common
trend in these studies is researching effects that impact romantic relationships, though few analyze
conditions that may impact an individual s desired age to be married. This study presents evidence
found in Stern (2011), Robertson et al. (2014), and McCullough et al. (2012) to further expand on
certain aspects that affect an individual s desired age to be married. Stern (2011) explored a correlation
between family attitudes and their effect on adult relationships. Stern (2011) surveyed 433 volunteers
and had them describe their relationships with a predetermined list of adjectives. Romantic
relationship was measured in two distinct manners: attachment style and quality (Stern, 2011). It was
found that sibling relationships did affect romantic relationships. The difference of this study from
Stern s, is that Stern studied individuals that were already married, whereas this study attempts to
investigate whether there is a correlation between positive sibling and positive parental relationship to
the age an individual desires to be married. With this reasoning, the following hypothesis was
constructed: H1: There will be a positive correlation between positive sibling relationships and desire
to get married at a younger age. Additionally, a study published by Robertson et al. (2014) correlated
sibling relationship with adult relationship quality. The study by Robertson et al.

31. Character Analysis Of Travel With Steinbeck
Charles le Chien; a bleu gentleman poodle who prefers a negotiation over any conflict. Born in Paris,
France, Charley was trained and eventually brought into Steinbeck s life. These companions later
travel around America while trying to answer the question What are Americans like today? With only
his necessities and Charley, Steinbeck began his long, overwhelming journey across America. In
Travels with Charley, Steinbeck is greatly influenced by Charley and his actions. As Steinbeck
traveled to Long Island, his relationship with Charley was slowly introduced as they headed for
Niagara Falls. Charley caught it from me, but he is a gallant dog. He came into the bathroom and that
old fool played with the plastic bath mat like a puppy. What strength of character, what a friend!
(Steinbeck 47). From this excerpt, we can understand that Steinbeck sees Charley not only as a dog,
but as his friend. He seems to admire Charley s sense of character, as it lights up the environment
around him. The quality of their friendship is important throughout the first section of this novel
because it will indicate how the rest of their journey will layout, especially during demanding times.
From the first example, we can infer that Charley s character towards Steinbeck comforts him. The
traits that the author sees in Charley helps him to feel accompanied rather than lonely during his
travels. In establishing contact with strange people, Charley is my ambassador... A child can do the
same thing, but a dog is better. (Steinbeck 65). From this line, Charley is described as one who can do
things a human might do for Steinbeck, but of better quality. Steinbeck suggests that his companion is
also his ambassador, making it appear that Charley s actions directly affect the author s reactions.
From both examples in context, we can know that Charley s basic characteristics lay a basis for
Steinbeck and how he interacts with people. This might affect his conversation habits, or the way that
Steinbeck sees America as a whole. On page 85, Steinbeck writes I would have to retrace my way at
least twenty miles, find a vet, have Charley vaccinated, and then return. While reading this section, the

In the Jacobean era, the natural order of the world was perceived as strict and immutable. In King
Lear, a tragic Shakespearean play, emphasis is also put on the natural order, which specifically reveals
a destiny for the characters in terms of their roles in the social hierarchy. Shakespeare shows that
adhering to one s social order is heroic. He demonstrates this though Cordelia, Kent, and Edgar, who
are all initially out casted, and then reintegrated into the King s community through adhering to their
social order. Early on in the play, Cordelia is disowned by her father, and then due to her selfless love
for him, she heroically reintegrates herself as the ideal youngest daughter according to the natural
familial order. Cordelia is rejected by her father when she is asked how much she loves him in order to

Through the IEP process, which was designed to leave no child behind , it was decided that what I

Essay # 1 Summary
September 10, 2011 Caroline Bird s essay College is a Waste of Time and Money explains her beliefs
on why, for some people, going to college is an ineffective and inefficient use of their time. She states
that many students do not belong in college because they are there for the wrong reasons and they are
not happy learning. She also gives evidence to suggest that going to college and getting a degree does
not actually allows a person to make more money in their life time. Her final claim is that college does
not prepare most students for the real world and the jobs they will have once they graduate. Bird
believes most students are not in college for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bird s second point is that, contrary to popular belief, college is not the best monetary investment a
young person can make. Bird explains this by comparing the money that would be spent on education
versus money that is put in a bank for interest. The outcome shows investing money that would
otherwise be spent on a college education would earn over half a million dollars more than the
earnings of a male college graduate compared to a non graduate. Bird also states that even if a
graduate makes more money in their job than a non graduate, there is no evidence that the higher
income is due to their college education. She attributes financial success to luck rather than a college
education. In this argument she mainly puts forth logical reasons why college is not for everyone. She
shows actual dollar amounts that logically prove an education is not necessarily the most profitable
investment. Bird s final point is that college does not prepare most people for the jobs they are going
to have in the future. She states the work attached to most jobs is totally unrelated to their college
education. For example, although there are many graduates with a psychology degree, there are only
so many jobs in psychology. The remaining graduates are forced to find jobs with work unrelated to
the degree they have obtained. Also, she brings up the point that college does not make people
intelligent and successful, but successful and intelligent people go to

37. U.s. Foreign Policy During The Middle East
For over the last two decades the Middle East has gradually gathered attention and has come to the
forefront of U.S. foreign policy. The focus on this region began primarily after the attacks on the two
World Trade Center s in New York City on September 11th, 2001. Iraq was the initial target in the
response to the devastating tragedy. This response involved an indefinite occupation with the intention
of eliminating weapons of mass destruction , with intelligence under the Bush Administration
allegedly confirming their existence. As this undeclared war on Iraq took place, U.S. foreign policy
was initiated. It consisted of bringing down an authoritarian regime and establishing democracy within
the state of Iraq, along with decimating any potential threats to the U.S. homeland. The major threat
lying with terrorist organizations in the region such as Al Qaeda, who were to blame for the 9/11
attacks on U.S. soil. Eventually the deployment of troops into Iraq was left without any particular
cause, due to the revelation that Saddam Hussein s regime had no possession of any nuclear weapons.
And as U.S. troops struggled to figure out exactly what they were fighting for, an insurgency began to
emerge. Is the U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East the cause of insurgency in the region along with
the eventual formation of militant groups such as ISIS? The policies carried out by the United States

This sense of security allows the individual to explore their world. These authors conclude that there
are four main responsibilities of an attachment figure: (1) remaining close to the individual, (2) acting
as a safe place when the individual needs to be comforted, (3) serving as a home base from which the
individual can explore their world, and (4) being worried when the individual is not available. After
years of research on adult attachment, rather than measuring differences in categories like infant
attachment, individuals are measured on two aspects of insecurity. These are attachment related
anxiety and attachment related avoidance. Attachment related anxiety is the need to be close to
attachment figures and worry about whether the attachment figure will be supportive and comforting.
Attachment related avoidance is a sense of being uncomfortable in close relationships, avoiding being
dependent on others, and wanting emotional distance from an attachment figure (Selcuk, Zayas,
Hazan, 2010). Bartholomew and Horowitz (1991) proposed that because a person can have positive or
negative aspects of both dimensions, then there are four combinations of attachment related anxiety
and avoidance that individuals can experience in close relationships. The first of these is a secure and
healthy attachment when an individual feels supported and comforted and feels that they are worthy of
these actions from other people. Johnson (2005)

40. Case Study Of United Break Guitars
Media Planning Development (MBA)
Case Analysis
United Airline s incidents
(United break guitars and recent incident)
Submission by Arshia Komal #163509
To Mr.Zubair Azam
Definition of Problem
Case 1: United break guitars
In 2008, a Canadian musician known as Dave Carroll took the flight by United Airline to Nebraska in
Chicago. Carroll claimed that his guitar was broken under the United Airlines keeping and declared
that he heard another passenger say that baggage smashers at Chicago s Airport were throwing
passengers luggage on a stopover. When he made the claim in Chicago, he was told that he was not
entitled to any damages because he had not made the claim within a stipulated time. Then in the year
of 2009, Carroll came up with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who take the threat of organizational crises seriously know that they cannot talk their way out
of things that they have directed themselves into. This proposition holds for organizations as well as
the individuals who work for them. In the case of United Airlines, both the times the organization
itself had directed towards crises, which could be averted if the compensation of the broken guitar was
paid and if the last minute change in staff travelling on plane would not have introduced.
2. NEVER lie.
We live in a world where the truth can be uncovered quickly. Being caught lying about an organization
s inappropriate actions can devastate the situation. United Airlines, misguided the customers by giving
false and different statements on media channels probably not showing the side of the picture and
covering it with cream.
3. Tell the truth and tell it quickly.
Generally, organizations have less than a day to tell their version of the truth. After that, the media and
other external stakeholders will tap into secondary and tertiary experts who will have their own views
on what has happened. United Airlines had their time of revealing the truth and apologizing with
appropriate compensation plan but they were unable to estimate the power of media when it is given
the power to assess and find out the truth

41. Evaluation Of A Tabu Search Generator Based Memory...
Casertaa and Uribe [46] proposed a Tabu Search (TS) based memory mechanism for problem solving.
It was capable of navigating both local information and in formation from search space. They took
tabu tenure as the performance measuring metrics. The efficiency of this algorithm was verified by
testing four benchmark problems using problem solving software. The results showed that TS
produced globally optimal solution in CPU time less than 0.1 seconds. Further they have generated
large random instances for testing and get optimal solutions using branch and cut solver on them.
Conclusions were drawn that proposed method was able to solve problems having 1300 binary
variables in 3 CPU seconds, but branch and cut solver takes 2500 CPU seconds. For larger problems
having 2300 binary variables, optimal solution could not be obtained using branch and cut solver, but
nearly optimal solution was obtained using TS with dual gap of 13%. So it was suggested that TS was
able to solve software reliability problems efficiently.
Daz et al. [47] derived a Tabu Search Generator (TSGen) for automatic structural software testing with
intensified and diversified search to attain high branch coverage. It also uses memory mechanisms and
backtracking to escape

42. David Mann Recommendation
I am very pleased to provide this recommendation on behalf of David Mann. From day one, David has
been very effective in running the office and carrying out all administrative procedures in a highly
organized and diplomatic way. These skills were readily apparent from the start and have grown and
strengthened during his time here. David coordinates departmental events and travel, and all the
events and trips that he has planned have been well executed. He has frequently called ahead at
different venues to make sure everything goes well for everyone, both students and staff, in
attendance. David also maintains most of the departmental correspondence, proving time and again to
be capable of consistently producing well refined, diplomatic, well crafted messages. He handles
record keeping, and manages the departmental budget, keeping it balanced and in the black while
providing all necessities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David not only took the initiative with creating all of the new documentation but also developed a
proposal for an alternate way of executing program. The new plan reduces the time involved without
sacrificing quality and benefit of the program. In sharing all this, I hope to convey to you what I see
and have experience: that David is not simply a hired staff member he is someone who is deeply
committed, who strives successfully every day to do his best and to make a difference. David is
dependable, honest, and kind; he cares about people and is always available to answer questions and
assist others, even during his busiest moments. One of the best things I did since coming to Andrews
University three years ago was hiring David. Though I would hate to see him go, I believe he truly
deserves the best, and I am happy to do the little I can to help with at by providing this strong
recommendation on his behalf. Please feel contact me with any questions you may have or to seek

44. Cowden Syndrome
A 43 year old woman presented with a one year history of abdominal pain and constipation. She also
gave a history of nodules in her mouth which biopsy showed papilloma (Figure A). In endoscopy
nodularity of the esophageal mucosa was seen in the entire length and a single nodule was seen on the
epiglottis. Coarse nodularity was seen in the stomach from cardia and fundus to the antrum.
Nodularity of the bulb and D2 was also seen and multiple polyps of different sizes were seen in colon
(Figure B) (Video 1). Biopsies was taken from these polyps and reported as hamartomatous polyps.
The patient had facial and acral lesions which biopsy confirmed trichilemmomas and acral keratosis.
Thyroid and breast sonography showed multiple benign nodules which was ... Show more content on

In 1996, the susceptibility locus for Cowden syndrome was mapped to chromosome 10q22 23, and in
1997, germline mutations in the PTEN gene (phosphatase and tensin homology, deleted on
chromosome 10) on 10q23 were first reported in families with this syndrome. Hamartomas in Cowden
syndrome affect all three germ cell layers but most commonly arise from ectodermal and endodermal
elements. Almost all patients (90% to 100%) have mucocutaneous lesions that include
trichilemmomas, acral keratoses, and oral papillomas. Breast lesions affect the majority of female
patients and include fibroadenomas, fibrocystic disease, and adenocarcinomas (25% to 50%). Thyroid
abnormalities, such as multinodular goiter and follicular adenoma, are found in one half to two thirds
of patients. Thyroid carcinoma occurs in 3% to 10% of patients. Macrocephaly, cerebellar
gangliocytoma, and genitourinary malformations are also frequent components of Cowden syndrome.
Increased risks for endometrial carcinoma and renal cell carcinoma have been added to the operational
criteria for Cowden

45. Port Security Planning
Port Security Planning
What are the components that contribute to port security planning, why are they important, and what
aspects of security planning are considered in port facility operations?
Surveillance cameras: These are special video cameras fitted at designated points of the port. They
capture at least most of the actions carried out within the premises of the port. These cameras are
normally positioned in areas that are out of bounds or inaccessible to individuals. Such a component is
important in a port as it monitors and records movements of goods and people in and out of the port.
In the event of illegal actions, those individuals captured by the camera are easily brought to book. In
addition, the presence of these cameras serves as a deterrent to people who may be planning to carry
out illegal activities at the port.
Space for expansion: this factor component falls under the designing and architectural stages. It is
important to understand that maritime is one of the most dynamic sectors of transport. The last two
decades have seen unprecedented growth in maritime activities with large cargo and cruise ships being
developed. This implies that the amount of goods or the number of passengers that a port handles have
been on a gradual rise over these years. Consequently, the architectural designs are tailored to meet
such requirements. New and redesigned facilities will require effective security provisions such as
secure buffer zones, closed circuit

46. Italian American Reputation Play Analysis
On the thirtieth of October, I went to watch the play Italian American Reconciliation. The time of era
of this play was in the late 1980s in Little Italy, New York. In this play, the characters makeup was a
little different from the actors of the first play I watched, Anna in the Tropics. Instead of their faces
being plain and simple, these actors had more color to their face, especially for the females. The males
had average natural makeup where the females had some fun playing with addition colors. The
character Teresa had wore a thin liner with extremely dark brows and a nice red lip color. As for Aunt
May, she had more of a dramatic look with thick liner with a load of eyeshadow and load of blush and
contour to define her face along with
