To What Extent Can The Handmaid s Tale and The Scarlet Letter be Described as Works of Dystopian
Fiction?
The definition of Dystopia is an imaginary place where the inhabitants are exploited and control is
maintained through oppression. Both The Scarlet Letter and The Handmaid s Tale reflect
characteristics of a dystopian novel. A dystopian novel is usually fictional and futuristic to the time in
which it was written. The characters are made to worship a concept or figure as a way of control.
Characters are subject to an irrational fear of what is outside their environment and the issues raised in
the novel are commentaries on contemporary society at the time.

The Internet And Its Impact On Our Society Essay
Introduction
In order to achieve political, economic and personal advancement, the internet has played a major role
in it. The internet, according to Wikipedia, has many uses that include data sharing, e commerce,
booking of tickets, socializing, job searching, entertainment and also in e learning. With advancements
in technology, the number of users of the internet are increasing daily. With internet speed increasing
over time, the Internet brings knowledge and information on nearly every subject imaginable straight
to your computer. This has made our lives easier and more efficient. Though the internet has many
advantages, it has brought a lot of negative impact to our society.
Definition of the internet
The word Internet comes from the words Interconnection of Networks (Greenfield, 1999). According
to One book projects, the Internet is a worldwide interconnection of computer networks that transmit
information from one place to another using the standard Internet Protocol. It is also knwn as the Net.
In order to understand how the internet has an impact to our day to day lives, one needs to understand
its history.
History of the internet
According to Johnny Ryan (2010), the internet was first conceived in the early 1960 by the
Department of Defence in the United stated. It was first called APRAnet. With time, it evolved into a
communications channel among contractors, university researchers, and military personnel which lead
to further improvements of the project. With

The United States was a power that wanted to remain neutral and was not involved in the first World
War until national security was tested and decided to get involved by joining the war on April 6, 1917,
supplying food to the allied forces, and my recruiting soldiers.
Although not a direct involvement in the war, the United States decided to partake in the First World
War by supplying and rationing food to the allied forces, including Great Britain, France, Russia and
Italy. The war had begun in 1914 and after three years of fighting in the war, the allies were facing
starvation in Europe. Farms had been turned into battlefields and agricultural workers were forced to
serve in the warfare, which then made food importation very difficult. In the United States, on August
10, 1917, the Food Administration was started in order to manage and control the wartime supply, the
conservation, the distribution and transportation of food. The American children were also called upon
to show thrift and economy during the war. One thing that was very important was wheat, where
Americans were urged and encouraged to give up or stop consuming wheat in order to send it overseas
and feed the allied soldiers. Meat was another well rationed item where butchers were told to evenly
distribute meat between registered customers. As the war progressed, rationing and food supplying
was not the only way the U.S. was involved in the war as they also called upon those to

Taking a Look at Logistics Management
The primary aim of logistics is to co ordinate the transportation, storage and handling of products as
they move from the source of raw materials, through the manufacturing system to their final point of
sale in a way that it meets customer requirements at minimum cost. In the past this cost has been
defined in purely monetary terms. Recently the world has witnessed an increasing awareness about
environmental and sustainability issues. This growing concern for the environment has a created
pressure on companies to reduce their negative environmental impact. As defined by ISO14001, the
environmental impact is a modification of the environment, negative or beneficial, resulting wholly or
partially from environmental aspects of an organization . Since the transportation of goods leads to air
and noise pollution, leads to fatal accidents sometimes and has significant impact on global warming,
firms have been trying to render their supply chains and logistics operations more environmental
friendly. That this why many Green logistics strategies have been devised in order to achieve an
efficient and environmentally friendly distribution and transportation system.
In this paper we will discuss what exactly is green logistics, and why green logistics strategies have
gained attention recently. We will then introduce some of these green strategies and their benefits. We
will finally discuss some of the challenges facing green logistics

The Importance Of The Patriot Act
After the attack on September 11, 2001, the United States implemented the Patriot Act. This new act
was signed by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001, and brought about many changes to
make the United States strong by making changes that would help guard against terrorism.
The Patriot Act was implemented right after the September 11 occurrence. This act revised the
electronic surveillance which allows the administration to eavesdrop on anyone. Although Patriot Act
was rejected before the September 11 incidence, the legislative body overturned their decision by the
Bush Administration. Although some members of the committee did not have a chance to review the
Patriot Act, but it was voted in successfully and signed by President Bush. Before the Patriot Act went
into effect, surveillance was limited by the authorities (Surveillance Under the USA/Patriot Act,
2017). As stated by Hall (2015), The USA Patriot Act amended existing surveillance statutes. When
the Fourth Amendment and these statutes are viewed as a whole, electronic and wire surveillance can
be divided into four categories, each with a different level of privacy protection (p. 487). Previously,
authorization was limited to only designate offences to listen to discussions on the telephone;
furthermore, there never a distinctive understanding if a warrant or summons was mandatory in listen
to voice messages. Even when any warrant was granted, it had state the name of the transporter of the

A Work Of Artifice By Marge Piercy s Barbie Doll

also in history. The poems A Work Of Artifice and Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy, demonstrates the
ideology that society has about women in general. This two poems by Marge Piercy gives a
perspective on how women have been treated throughout history and what a woman has to do in order
to qualify to the expectations of society and be considered a perfect women . Everyone has their own

as someone weak. The author states that The crippled brain, the hair in curlers. In this quote is evident
the stereotype of a woman, a woman without a brain who needs to depend on someone else in order to
think; she also needs to be pretty, and spend her time doing her hair to look gorgeous. Both of the
poems were written in different time of period, Barbie Doll was written in 1971 and shows a clear idea
that society doesn t think about how a comment can affect someone and when that person is dead, all
their flaws go away. This can be seen when the author said, With the undertaker s cosmetics painted

perspective hardly changed because A work of Artifice by Marge Piercy was written in 1999 and the
theme is the same. The treatment of women throughout history is the

Cognitive Neuroscience Essay
Cognitive neuroscience is the study of how the brain is able to process and function through the
stimulation of neurons. The broad nature of this field allows much involvement in the scientific
community including not only psychologists working to further understand the functions of the human
brain, but also physicists, mathematicians, and other science related areas of study by bringing
knowledge and simulations from the outside world and relating them to the processes of our own
minds. In addition to researching the basis of normal cognitive functions in an average brain, cognitive
neuroscience studies development of the brain, as well as damage to the brain including how the
damage will affect normal operations of that brain in the future.
The study of cognitive neuroscience began as a result of a movement to, rather than focus studies on
behavioral actions, study the operational characteristics of the brain and how they related to
knowledge, memory, understanding, and other processes. The overall field of cognitive science has
evolved and split into many different subjects including cognitive psychology, cognitive biology,
cognitive neuropsychology, and others which are all based on furthering our understanding of the
mental processes of the brain. Early cognitive neuroscience was based on discovering which parts of

If you are looking for an amazing vacation destination, Toronto is the place you should look at. This
city in southernmost Canada is full of family friendly attractions. Places like these include the CN

Critique of The Open Boat
Identification
Crane, Stephen. 1969 The Open Boat. In the Portable Stephen Crane: A World of Shipwreck, 360 86.
New York, New York: Penguin Group Viking Penguin.
Summary of Main Idea
In the short story The Open Boat by Stephen Crane, the story is about four men a captain, a cook, an
oiler, and a correspondent. They find themselves in a lifeboat after their ship sinks off the coast of
Florida. A rough wave crashes into the small boat and all the men are spilled into the water, but the
oiler drowns. Finally, the men arrive at shore where they receive help.
Critical evaluation of major ideas
In the story The Open Boat by Stephen Crane, he demonstrates a positive theme of determination
through the characters. Well, said the cook, perhaps it s not a house of refuge that I m thinking of as
being near Mosquito Inlet Light; perhaps it s a lifesaving station. We re not there yet, said the oiler in
the stern. (362) Oh, well, said the captain, soothing his children, we ll get ashore all right. (363) All
four men were determined that they would make it to shore. Even though the ship was wrecked, and
they were in a dinghy. According to Christopher Metress article titled From indifference to anxiety:
Knowledge and the reader in The Open Boat he talks about the signals the crewmen saw and how they
weren t going to give up they were determined to interpret what the guy at the shore was trying to tell
them. The crew s wish to make

The Assessment Of A Community s Decision For Real Initiative
According to Monmonier (1996), those who do have Internet and GIS accessibility face the potential
to be placed in a vulnerable position. He believes that the public who is armed with a GIS but lacking
the savvy to use the system appropriately becomes vulnerable to sarcastic attacks from site advocates .
Meaning, that a community s opinion may not be taken seriously or may be misrepresented in the eyes
of policymakers because the people in that community may not be using the GIS software correctly,
therefore they do not comprehend the data that is being presented to them in a GIS platform. This
connects to another complication, that the general public may not have the basic training requirements
needed to properly understand GIS software. Referring back to Carver, et al (2001), one of the issues
they encountered during the observation of the Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation s Planning for
Real initiative was a general lack of familiarity with GIS software, especially from older age groups of
manual trade.
The solution to these issues cannot be resolved in a short period of time as these are mainly socio
economic complications, however, attainable solutions are present. As far as GIS comprehensive, this
will become less of an issue as more people become familiar with using computers and maps through
work and education (Carver et al, 2001). As mentioned earlier in Baker s (2005) article, strides are
being made to teach K 12 students Web GIS, for digital learning

All of these attacks and attempts and actions were addressed through the existing criminal justice
system. Under that legal architecture, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and Title III of the

governed domestic intelligence collection. Exchange of information collected by foreign and domestic
agencies was dedicated by a strict set of rules that was interpreted as forbidding pure intelligence
information from being involved with law enforcement purposes, and conversely made it difficult to
involve criminal justice derived information with other agencies. When terrorists were arrested either
in the United States or abroad, they were accorded the treatment of any other criminal defendant, also
including receiving warnings about the right to silence, and a full blown criminal jury trial (FAQ about

The Gaze
Today s audience is one of laziness. The majority of content consumers are not programed to digest
what they watch with a critical eye. While there is no real harm in this, there is room for change and
experimental media has been trying to provoke that change for decades. Bertolt Brecht s theory and
practice of alienation, or v effect, has been pulling audiences out of their comfort zone for a long time
through many different types of art and entertainment. Another topic of discussion is The Gaze ;
usually seen through the male s eye. Again, it is not harmful, but that is because it has been engrained
in the modern audience s brain that it is okay to view woman the way entertainment says is okay.
While they are two very different themes, alienation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mainstream cinema (and culture) reinforces how we are to look at women (as objects, as passive, as
without agency, unworthy of our existential attention) (Week 8 Slides). While there is nothing wrong
with admiring the female form, it does raise some questions about how easily susceptible audiences
are to media. When the audience has ...come to accept the sexist tropes and codes of mainstream
Hollywood cinema as natural, inevitable and beyond reproach... (Week 8 Slides), there is a problem.
The Gaze started early on in cinema and has continued to be practiced in films even to today, if not
more so today. One film in particular that sparked controversy was Michael Powell s 1960 film
Peeping Tom . The film is about a serial killer who films his victims as they are murdered. This film
ended up being banned in many places around the world and was seen as one of the worst films. A few
years later, Martin Scorsese brought the movie back into the light and is now seen as one of the
greatest cult films ever made. The reason behind why it shifted from being appaling to being amazing,
relies on the audience. Nothing about the film has changed over the years, but the opinion of it has.
How can this be? It has to do with the audience s reaction and perception of the content. In 1960,
audiences brains weren t trained to fetishize woman like they are in today s modern films. The
voyeuristic nature of the film

Santa Is Real Essay
Is Santa real? This is the one question that everyone asks at some point in their life. I have been asking

magical things and to know that was real was something magical.
But secretly, I had a small feeling that Santa was not real. Every year I would see more kids stop

But I knew one day the day would come where I would be told that Santa wasn t real and I would join

Implementing Access Control Third L
Operating System Security
Introduction
An operating systems (OS) serves as the medium between the user of a computer and the hardware
that it resides on. The operating system manages how programs communicate with resources in a
computer, such as disk drives, microprocessor, CPU kernel, RAM ,usb external drives, network
interfaces, printers, and web cameras to name a few. Operating systems interact with application s that
are built by programmers in house or commercial off the shelf (COTS) such as Microsoft Office Suite
or Symantec Antivirus software. The information store on computers are essential to our way of live.
Protecting this information from malicious intruders is not always practice by IT professional in an

The Media And Popular Culture
Media and Popular Culture Popular culture is different from traditional culture; it is based on the
timeline of the significant characteristics of a culture. Popular culture is the ideas, attitudes, thinking,
memes, images, and other phenomena that are in the mainstream of a given culture, especially the
western culture in the early 20th century to the middle 20th century and the emerging global
mainstream in the early 20th and the 21st century. Deeply influenced by the mass media, this
collection of ideas permeates daily life of the society (Wikipedia 2014). Mass media is conceived and
designed to reach a very large media audience. It may need to be in the form of broadcast media, in
television and radio, or print media, such as newspapers and magazines. Internet media can also obtain
the status of the mass media; actually, with so many ways out there provided by internet media, mass
media has been more accessible than ever before. Some people also call it the mainstream media ,
refer to the fact that it tends to give prominent coverage to the news that are cater for the interest of the
public, while ignores the controversial news. Most people around the world are dependent on
mainstream sources for most of their news, so globally, it has already been a huge industry. But there
could be some problems with mass means too, as it could devour the diversity and have negative
effect on popular culture.

Child Support In California
Just like every state, California has guidelines in their statutes that outline the what, where, how, and
why of child support. The primary purpose of child support in Riverside, California is to do just that;
support the child financially in order to provide for their needs. As far as the courts are concerned, that
means whatever is in the best interest of the child (children).
The basics of what is included in California Family Code 4053:
The father and mother s most important and first obligation is to provide support for their child.
The child support obligation is mutual, consistent with what is in the best interest of the child, and is
calculated according to the income of both parents.

Likewise, child support may also reduce the imbalance in the standard of living for each parent.
California s cost of living is quite high and child support is ordered to reflect that fact.
California law surmises that the custodial parent, or the parent who contributes the most significant
amount of parenting time already contributes a significant amount of money and resources to support
the child. This factor can be rebutted depending on the circumstances.
California s guidelines for child support are intended to reduce litigation and conflict between parents.
The best interest of the child is the state s first priority regarding child support and the overall care of

Neanderthals Video Summary
According to the video, Neanderthals were not the brutish and unintelligent ape like creatures of
popular myth, but a strong, intelligence, and highly adaptive species who mastered their environment
and survived for thousands of years. This is proven throughout the video through the Neanderthals
development of weapons and tools, how they communicated and played a part in their clan, and how
they mastered their environment to survive for an incredibly long time. One of the most common
myths about Neanderthals is their curiosity of fire, and how they were amazed by it. This however was
proven false throughout the video. The Neanderthals seemed to have tamed fire, using it to their
advantages, like for warmth and for also cooking. The Neanderthals ... Show more content on

We originally believed that they only communicated with mere grunts and babbling of words, but the
video has shown that they had their own language to communicate with their clan, unique and special
to them. Nowhere in the video did I see or hear them talk to each other with only grunts, but they had
their own language and used hand gestures as well when they hunted. The video also mentioned, that
every member of the clan had to play a part. It said that at girl at the age of eleven, had not been
hunting for long. This tells the viewer that the Neanderthals recognized that everyone will have to
contribute to their clan to survive their environment. I also learned that from the Video, is that the
Neanderthals cared for each other. When a member of the clan, the leader, was killed, all members of
the clan contributed into a ritual for their killed leader. Archeologists have found that a skeleton had
animal bones surrounding it, as well as pollen, showing signs of a burial. This shows me that the
Neanderthals had their own form of communication and had a clan based on social interaction,
making them more intelligent and less brutish than what we believed them to

Biography Of Babe Ruth
George Herman Ruth Jr. also known as Babe Ruth was born on February 6, 1895 in Baltimore,
Maryland. When Babe Ruth was little his parents worked long hours so his parents were not able to
control him. He was getting into trouble a lot around town and skipping school. When he was 7 years
old he was sent to a school for boys. This is where he learned to play baseball at. He was drafted by
the Baltimore Orioles. He was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He was a pitcher in Boston and he won a
world series there as the number one pitcher. Then he was traded to the New York Yankees. He
became the best home run hitter in the history of Major League baseball until Hank Aaron broke the

Desire And Death In The Ignorant By Jacques Ranciere
Desire and death Desire is the necessary condition for self consciousness; we long to know, to be
recognized or simply long to own commodities. Desire is necessary to our being; as we pursue
knowledge we continue to grow and therefore become increasingly conscious of ourselves. Equally,
death is the necessary condition for the evolution of a being and a natural occurrence of progress;
without death man cannot progress as he remains static. The relation between death and desire reflects
the connection between the struggle of life and death. Desire indicates that the individual is conscious;
furthermore it also reflects the evident opposition between life and death. Death is the result of nature
and fate of human desire; it is a natural and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This minority that Kant describes does not result as a lack of understanding but instead indicates a
lack of courage to step outside of the individual s comfort zone and utilise that understanding without
the direction of a master. Jacques Ranciere suggests that the master s role is to guide; however, if a
master is forced to explain something to their student he is only showing the student that they are
incapable of understanding through their own effort. Jacques Ranciere s students in The Ignorant
School Master, represent the individual s desire to know as they tackle self teaching due to an evident
language barrier leading them to become conscious of their own abilities. Once the individual is able
to utilise their understanding without direction, they have then reached enlightenment and as Kant
states can walk with confidence, knowing they ve learned through their own efforts. In Hegel s
dialectic, the master and the slave are represented as two opposed forms of consciousness, wherein
one exists merely for itself and the latter is dependent on the master and its existence relies on him.
Through pursuing knowledge man moves from ignorance to knowledge, to seeking knowledge and he
does so through experience; death is the condition which allows the possibility for experience. The
significance of moving from depending on a master for instruction to being able to build your own
theories through your own understanding is important to enlightenment; it ultimately leads the
individual to liberation. On the other hand, the individual that depends on the master for direction is
bound to intellectual death because they are unable to form their own

Death And Rebirth Of Traditional Family Values”. A Family
Death and Rebirth of Traditional Family Values
A family is a group of individuals related by blood, marriage, or adoption. Most people are familiar
with the term nuclear families . However, today the idea of a postmodern family is becoming more
and more common. A nuclear family consists of two parents and children. The nuclear family was
long held by society as being the ideal in which to raise children. The single parent family consists of
one parent raising one or more children on his or her own. This limits income and opportunities in
many cases, although many single parent families have help from relatives and friends. The extended
family structure consists of two or more adults who are related, either by blood or marriage, living in

Recreational values refer to anything that involves fun or play. An example would be allowing each

Humbert chronicles his abnormal childhood, adolescent experiences, and an adventure in a booming

subject matter. Another deleted scene was when Humbert leaves the room after killing Quilty and all

Pros And Cons Of Government Operated Security
Evaluating the pros and cons of government operated security versus returning to privately owned
security
Summary
This case study will discuss the pros and cons of operating an airport with a government operated
system of security versus returning to a privately owned and operated security organization. The
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was introduced to the airline industry after the attacks
on September 11th, 2001. Complaints of slow wait times during periods of heavy traffic and the
ability to manage the labor force have recently sparked an interest of Airports switching their security
to a privatized company.
Problem Statement
Airport security has always been a top priority for the airline industry and lately more airports are
leaning towards having a privatized company to run their security program.
Significance of the Problem
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created on November 19, 2001, and was
signed into law by the 107th Congress (NMAH, 2011). The TSA was created to strengthen the
security of transportation systems while allowing free movement of people and trade (NMAH, 2011).
In recent years the administration has seen a lower budget due to the removal of three programs and
the money will be diverted to fund the wall on the Mexico border (Halsey, 2017). Slow screening
times from TSA are causing people to miss their flights due to the large lines. Also, numerous items of
contraband are not being detected by the

Art and Nature in Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale Essay
Art and Nature in Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale
In Shakespeare s The Winter s Tale , we see a jealous king convinced he is search of the truth. He will
expose his wife and her alleged philandering, but his determination to prove this actually changes this
search from one for truth to one for myths creations, false truths. In essence. Leontes runs into the
conflict of defining art versus nature, where art is the view of the world he constructs to prove his
paranoia true. Nature itself can exist without art, but the art here is the mangled perception through
which Leontes will seek to define Nature. In summation, The Winter s Tale investigates the conflict

In other words, the assumed unfaithfulness of his wife, will wreak havoc, like a galactic body. This is
a bizarre comparison a wife and her alleged infidelity to a planet in outer space that will destruct in the
name of vengeance. As bizarre as it is, it accomplishes the task of enhancing the dichotomy of what is
real and what is a fabrication of imagination. Art, in The Winter s Tale is not merely expression but
creation over nature. As his paints a dramatically depressed view of reality, it becomes clear how his
perception of what is actually in nature has been heinously corrupted because of a search for truth
predicated on validating flippant worries. He carries on: To mingle friendship far is mingling bloods. I
have tremor cordis on me. My heart dances, but not for joy, not joy. , showing the extent to which he
cannot see the truth what is actually present in nature, but also how manically crazed he is. For
example, Leontes seems to think nothing is odd about calling his son into speak to him, and merely
asking, Mamillius, art thou my boy? . His tone here is light, and conveys this idea that not only is what
he asking logical and understandable but normal. It speaks volumes to art s influence on Leontes to
make him so selfish and wrapped up in his own desperate story.

nature with characters that put on alter egos and defenses over

Authority And The Canterbury Tales
Authority and The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer, widely known for his influence in medieval literature, expresses a fourteenth
century literacy concept of authority and gentility in The Canterbury Tales. There are two forms of
authority and gentility that will be covered in this discussion: authority and gentility in Chaucer s
personal life and the one in his two tales, The Wife of Bath s Tale , and The Clerk s Tale . Chaucer
himself loses a sense of authority over his writing after his death, when his scribe, Adam Pinkhurst
takes over as his authorial supporter. A wide speculation follows Chaucer and his Canterbury Tales
because it is believed that Chaucer himself did not complete his tales in its entirety, since his death
came before the publication of the book as well as the arrangement of the tales not being in order. In
Simon Horobin s article Compiling The Canterbury Tales in Fifteenth Century Manuscripts , N. F.
Blake raises the possibility that some of the earliest manuscripts of The Canterbury Tales may have
been written under Chaucer s supervision, and that differences in content and tale order would
therefore represent separate stages of authorial revision (Horobin, 372). Aside from the completion of
the tales, more important the authenticity of his work is greater questioned because his idea for the
pilgrims are perhaps borrowed from predecessors, for example Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron
that holds a similar theme. Chaucer deals with a form of

Work Memory Analysis
Introduction
The working memory aids our ability to remember words over non words, specifically the
phonological loop and visuospatial sketchpad (Baddeley, Hitch, 1994). Other studies by (Paivio, 1991)
have shown that concrete words are easier to recall than abstract words due to semantic associations.
The purpose of this paper is to explore the parts of memory that help certain words to be more easily
remembered than others. Memory is the system that enables us to learn skills and gain information
through sensory memory and short term storage. It is also the process that allows us to retrieve this
information from long term storage (Baddeley, 1974). Being able to create a new memory, put that
memory away in storage, and bring it back when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They proposed the phonological loop had evolved for language acquisition and storage. Also their
study found that the ability to pronounce a word places it in phonological storage, allowing you to
recall the memory quicker (Baddeley, 1994). The phonological loop has been found to be a workspace
for verbal information (Baddeley, 1994). Other studies have also found that the phonological loop
works to process auditory information as well (Reisberg, 2013). The visuospatial sketchpad,
(Baddeley, 1994) was used to recall a visual object. In the visuospatial sketchpad images are placed on
different spatial maps, which then tied together with the spatial workspace on the visuospatial
sketchpad. The decision maker of working memory is the central executive. It decides which
memories are retrieved, what information you should focus on, how important the information is, and
how to attain goals (Riesberg, 2013). Without the central executive, our thoughts and actions would be
unorganized in our working memory (Riesberg, 2013). In order to reduce the workload of the central
executive, and allow it to focus towards important tasks, the episodic buffer works to store the
information gathered from the visuospatial sketchpad and phonological loop (Baddeley, 1974). These
models of memory show us how it is organized and operates, and there are other models of memory
that go into how memory aids our

Managing The Population Through Education And Birth...
When the world celebrated the 7 billionth baby s birth in Manila a few years back, we were stepping
in a society with noticeable population explosion. Those overpopulated societies which can no longer
sustain themselves invade the natural environment which belongs to wildlife and over exploit natural
resources for survival. Human beings are supposed to be responsible for the majority of environmental
problems, while overpopulation exacerbates most problems such as pollution, deforestation, global
warming, etc. Thus, to save the world from those environmental crises we should attach more
importance on the people that cause them rather than just reply on developing technology to fix the
problem its own. Managing the population through education and birth control policy is what we can
do with global joint efforts. Reminding the public of our population problem, providing an option of
birth control to families and guiding the public to live sustainably will slow down the population
growth, and hopefully in the long sense reduce world s population. Most importantly, such declining
population which owns greener lifestyle creates a benign and harmonious relationship with the planet.
The UNICEF estimates that an average of 353,000 babies are born each day; this means a baby is born
to the world every two seconds. About 60 years ago, the world s population is less than a half of what
it is right now. Therefore, if the population continue to grow with this rate, the

Why is kindness or altruism important for society?
Altruism may be defined as a basic selfless attitude that may attribute to those providing initial
intervention (Ronel, 2006).
For a society or community to thrive, prosper and grow minimum expectations must exist for the
individuals of that community to be happy. Rules and laws are in place to govern the ways in which
we should act socially, ethically and morally. Among such principles is an expectation to be fair and

Argumentative Essay On Truck Drivers
Driving a semi truck isn t the most glamorous job in the world. It requires long hours, days, or weeks,
away from home, and it s physically demanding. Still, there are thousands of truck drivers across the
country that truly wouldn t have it any other way. To these hardy folks, driving a big rig isn t just a
job, it s a way of life. Surely, they must receive some sort of perks that make it all worth while? Yes,
they do. In fact, there are three major benefits of working for an OTR trucking company that keep
drivers rolling along.
Excellent Pay
For the most part, newly licensed truck drivers can expect to enter the job market with a salary of
somewhere around $45,000 the first year. Depending upon the company they work for, and the cargo
they haul, experienced driver s pay can reach six digits. What s more, they often receive benefits such
as a 401K, health insurance, and bonuses. This is exceptional, especially when you consider the fact
that obtaining a commercial driver s license (CDL) takes weeks, rather than years. Now take into
consideration the cost of training, which is literally a couple thousand dollars, rather than the tens of
thousands of dollars a college degree costs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CDL holders with a clean record, who are safety conscious and professional are among the most
valuable employees. They can easily move from one company to another, often increasing their pay
along the way. There are also ample opportunities for advancement, such as obtaining a HAZMAT
endorsement, or working in the oil and gas industry, both of which command an even higher salary.
For those that prefer to work on their own, becoming an independent owner/operator is always an
option. This kind of job security is unheard of in most industries.

The American Dream in Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men Essay
The American Dream in Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men
Of Mice and Men is a story set during the 1930 s America, this was a time when the great depression
had hit the world. This novel was written by John Steinbeck who had based most of his work in the
story location. The main aspect of this story evolves around the American dream, and how it is
perceived by the characters. The American dream is an expression for everything great in life; it is
based on a dream that has a future with happiness. The term American Dream shows the positive parts
of America, it meant hope; happiness and security were truly possible.

This was the start of the Great Depression that would affect the whole world during the 1930s.
However the dream survived for individuals. Thousands made their way west to California to escape
from their farmlands in the mid West. George and Lennie dreamt of their little house and a couple of
acres . The growing popularity of cinema was the last American Dream for many.
Eventually the poor farmers could not maintain their land so they moved westwards towards
California. These people were known as migrant workers as they were constantly migrating around
the country to follow the harvest. These people lived in fear and poverty in which they had no family
or friends to trust. Of Mice and Men is a story of how two migrant workers lives are inspired by hope.
In this essay I will compare the American dream to the reality in which the migrant workers are
subjected to. In this story there are many aspects that we have to take into consideration which
includes the many themes portrayed by Steinbeck and the reality in which they suffer. The series of
events is set around four days and in this time a lot happens so every part of the story is vital. I will
work chronologically through out the story so I can see how the plot develops. I will focus my essay
on how the main characters dream is influenced by their reality.

Similarities Between The Age Of Iron By Hesiod
The first generation, also known as the race of gold, was the best because they were more pure and
kind, always respectful to their own race and the gods. They lived in peace and they treated everybody
equally and justly all the time. They were also stronger than any other race since they were the only
ones who didn t live with grief, fear, or hard labor. They did not have to work, or to find a place where
to live or what to eat because the gods favored them with everything they needed from nature itself.
Most important, they were not greedy or selfish, which is the major problem with all the upcoming
races after them, including our own. They were just perfect.
According to Hesiod, the fifth generation of mortals, also known as the race of Iron, is our own race. I
find many similarities between The Age of Iron to our own time. Some of them is that people on both
generations commit crimes, treason, frauds, and violence with no shame at all. Similar to them we live
in a selfish generation full of greedy people. We also put a price in our own planet and its natural

other natural resources should remain untouched by the human hands. We need to find a way to

Good people still exists in the world nowadays, but the problem is that we care too much about

Although not a direct involvement in the war, the United States decided to partake in the First World War by supplying and rationing food to the allied forces, including Great Britain, France, Russia and Italy. The war had begun in 1914 and after three years of fighting in the war, the allies were facing starvation in Europe. Farms had been turned into battlefields and agricultural workers were forced to serve in the warfare, which then made food importation very difficult. In the United States, on August 10, 1917, the Food Administration was started in order to manage and control the wartime supply, the conservation, the distribution and transportation of food. The American children were also called upon to show thrift and economy during the war. Taking a Look at Logistics Management The primary aim of logistics is to co ordinate the transportation, storage and handling of products as they move from the source of raw materials, through the manufacturing system to their final point of sale in a way that it meets customer requirements at minimum cost. In the past this cost has been defined in purely monetary terms. Recently the world has witnessed an increasing awareness about environmental and sustainability issues. This growing concern for the environment has a created pressure on companies to reduce their negative environmental impact. As defined by ISO14001, the environmental impact is a modification of the environment, negative or beneficial, resulting wholly or partially from environmental aspects of an organization . Since the transportation of goods leads to air and noise pollution, leads to fatal accidents sometimes and has significant impact on global warming, firms have been trying to render their supply chains and logistics operations more environmental friendly. That this why many Green logistics strategies have been devised in order to achieve an efficient and environmentally friendly distribution and transportation system. In this paper we will discuss what exactly is green logistics, and why green logistics strategies have gained attention recently. We will then introduce some of these green strategies and their benefits. We will finally discuss some of the challenges facing green logistics What is Green Logistics? In this part we ... • 14. The Assessment Of A Community s Decision For Real Initiative According to Monmonier (1996), those who do have Internet and GIS accessibility face the potential to be placed in a vulnerable position. He believes that the public who is armed with a GIS but lacking the savvy to use the system appropriately becomes vulnerable to sarcastic attacks from site advocates . Meaning, that a community s opinion may not be taken seriously or may be misrepresented in the eyes of policymakers because the people in that community may not be using the GIS software correctly, therefore they do not comprehend the data that is being presented to them in a GIS platform. This connects to another complication, that the general public may not have the basic training requirements needed to properly understand GIS software. Referring back to Carver, et al (2001), one of the issues they encountered during the observation of the Neighbourhood Initiatives Foundation s Planning for Real initiative was a general lack of familiarity with GIS software, especially from older age groups of manual trade. The solution to these issues cannot be resolved in a short period of time as these are mainly socio economic complications, however, attainable solutions are present. As far as GIS comprehensive, this will become less of an issue as more people become familiar with using computers and maps through work and education (Carver et al, 2001). Jacques Ranciere suggests that the master s role is to guide; however, if a master is forced to explain something to their student he is only showing the student that they are incapable of understanding through their own effort. Jacques Ranciere s students in The Ignorant School Master, represent the individual s desire to know as they tackle self teaching due to an evident language barrier leading them to become conscious of their own abilities. Once the individual is able to utilise their understanding without direction, they have then reached enlightenment and as Kant states can walk with confidence, knowing they ve learned through their own efforts. In Hegel s dialectic, the master and the slave are represented as two opposed forms of consciousness, wherein one exists merely for itself and the latter is dependent on the master and its existence relies on him. Through pursuing knowledge man moves from ignorance to knowledge, to seeking knowledge and he does so through experience; death is the condition which allows the possibility for experience. The significance of moving from depending on a master for instruction to being able to build your own theories through your own understanding is important to enlightenment; it ultimately leads the individual to liberation. On the other hand, the individual that depends on the master for direction is bound to intellectual death because they are unable to form their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people are familiar with the term nuclear families . However, today the idea of a postmodern family is becoming more and more common. A nuclear family consists of two parents and children. The nuclear family was long held by society as being the ideal in which to raise children. The single parent family consists of one parent raising one or more children on his or her own. Lolita is a twelve year old girl, who is desired by the European intellectual Humbert Humbert. As the narrator of the story, Humbert chronicles his abnormal childhood, adolescent experiences, and an adventure in a booming American as a European tourist and pedophile. But it is key to realize his first heartbreak as a boy manifests into his desires for nymphets. This point is made clear in both the novel and movie. That s just cutting out the crap, and when you re a director who want to make a good movie from a novel, you must realize what is crap and what is important subject matter. Another deleted scene was when Humbert leaves the room after killing Quilty and all his guests are there. To be honest with you, this scene confused me in the novel and I m glad it was left out. The scene made no sense, and the dialogue between the character was a waste of time. The movie ending was better, just him in his depressed and tormented emotional state as he drives down the road to absolutely nowhere. One last deleted scene was that of the stranger (Quilty) coming in to play tennis as Humbert was away. This scene was meant only to get Humbert nervous about losing Lolita, and without it in the movie we still realized he was overprotective of his treasure. I want to discuss some more ways that I thought the movie was an improvement to the novel and also discuss some scenes that were added that strengthened the story. Pros And Cons Of Government Operated Security Evaluating the pros and cons of government operated security versus returning to privately owned security Summary This case study will discuss the pros and cons of operating an airport with a government operated system of security versus returning to a privately owned and operated security organization. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was introduced to the airline industry after the attacks on September 11th, 2001. Complaints of slow wait times during periods of heavy traffic and the ability to manage the labor force have recently sparked an interest of Airports switching their security to a privatized company. Problem Statement Airport security has always been a top priority for the airline industry and lately more airports are leaning towards having a privatized company to run their security program. Significance of the Problem The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created on November 19, 2001, and was signed into law by the 107th Congress (NMAH, 2011). The TSA was created to strengthen the security of transportation systems while allowing free movement of people and trade (NMAH, 2011). In recent years the administration has seen a lower budget due to the removal of three programs and the money will be diverted to fund the wall on the Mexico border (Halsey, 2017). Slow screening times from TSA are causing people to miss their flights due to the large lines. Also, numerous items of contraband are not being detected by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leontes runs into the conflict of defining art versus nature, where art is the view of the world he constructs to prove his paranoia true. Art, in The Winter s Tale is not merely expression but creation over nature. As his paints a dramatically depressed view of reality, it becomes clear how his perception of what is actually in nature has been heinously corrupted because of a search for truth predicated on validating flippant worries. His tone here is light, and conveys this idea that not only is what he asking logical and understandable but normal. • 30. Authority And The Canterbury Tales Authority and The Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer, widely known for his influence in medieval literature, expresses a fourteenth century literacy concept of authority and gentility in The Canterbury Tales. There are two forms of authority and gentility that will be covered in this discussion: authority and gentility in Chaucer s personal life and the one in his two tales, The Wife of Bath s Tale , and The Clerk s Tale . Chaucer himself loses a sense of authority over his writing after his death, when his scribe, Adam Pinkhurst takes over as his authorial supporter. A wide speculation follows Chaucer and his Canterbury Tales because it is believed that Chaucer himself did not complete his tales in its entirety, since his death came before the publication of the book as well as the arrangement of the tales not being in order. In Simon Horobin s article Compiling The Canterbury Tales in Fifteenth Century Manuscripts , N. F. Blake raises the possibility that some of the earliest manuscripts of The Canterbury Tales may have been written under Chaucer s supervision, and that differences in content and tale order would therefore represent separate stages of authorial revision (Horobin, 372). Aside from the completion of the tales, more important the authenticity of his work is greater questioned because his idea for the pilgrims are perhaps borrowed from predecessors, for example Giovanni Boccaccio s The Decameron that holds a similar theme. Other studies by (Paivio, 1991) have shown that concrete words are easier to recall than abstract words due to semantic associations. The purpose of this paper is to explore the parts of memory that help certain words to be more easily remembered than others. Memory is the system that enables us to learn skills and gain information through sensory memory and short term storage. They proposed the phonological loop had evolved for language acquisition and storage. Also their study found that the ability to pronounce a word places it in phonological storage, allowing you to recall the memory quicker (Baddeley, 1994). The phonological loop has been found to be a workspace for verbal information (Baddeley, 1994). Other studies have also found that the phonological loop works to process auditory information as well (Reisberg, 2013). The visuospatial sketchpad, (Baddeley, 1994) was used to recall a visual object. In the visuospatial sketchpad images are placed on different spatial maps, which then tied together with the spatial workspace on the visuospatial sketchpad. The decision maker of working memory is the central executive. It decides which memories are retrieved, what information you should focus on, how important the information is, and how to attain goals (Riesberg, 2013). Without the central executive, our thoughts and actions would be unorganized in our working memory (Riesberg, 2013). In order to reduce the workload of the central executive, and allow it to focus towards important tasks, the episodic buffer works to store the information gathered from the visuospatial sketchpad and phonological loop (Baddeley, 1974). When the world celebrated the 7 billionth baby s birth in Manila a few years back, we were stepping in a society with noticeable population explosion. Those overpopulated societies which can no longer sustain themselves invade the natural environment which belongs to wildlife and over exploit natural resources for survival. Human beings are supposed to be responsible for the majority of environmental problems, while overpopulation exacerbates most problems such as pollution, deforestation, global warming, etc. Thus, to save the world from those environmental crises we should attach more importance on the people that cause them rather than just reply on developing technology to fix the problem its own. Managing the population through education and birth control policy is what we can do with global joint efforts. Reminding the public of our population problem, providing an option of birth control to families and guiding the public to live sustainably will slow down the population growth, and hopefully in the long sense reduce world s population.
