How can it measure
the affective
learning outcome?
THURSTONE SCALE
The Thurstone scale measures a student’s affective
learning outcome by using a series of “agree-
disagree” statements of various weights. These
statements help determine not only how a student
feels, but how strongly they feel that way. By
measuring attitude with the Thurstone scale,
teachers can gauge the sentiment or opinion of their
students with greater accuracy.

THURSTONE SCALE
“Each “agree” answer must be assigned a
score between 1 to 11, each “disagree” answer
must be assigned a score of 0. The final score
of each respondent’s quiz represents the
strength of their opinion. The higher the
score, the more supportive their opinion.
