How To Write Case Study Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of composing a case study essay presents a multifaceted
challenge. At its core, this task requires a nuanced understanding of both the subject matter and
the art of essay writing. One must seamlessly blend analytical skills with a coherent writing
style, elucidating the process while maintaining clarity and conciseness.
Delving into the complexities of case study essays demands not only a comprehensive grasp of
the chosen topic but also the ability to synthesize information effectively. This task necessitates
meticulous research, keen observation, and a discerning eye for relevant details. Each case study
is unique, requiring a tailored approach that considers the specific context, variables, and
implications associated with the subject matter.
The difficulty intensifies as the writer navigates through the intricate web of structuring the
essay. The introduction must captivate the reader's attention, setting the stage for the analysis
that follows. Developing a coherent thesis statement becomes pivotal, as it serves as the guiding
beacon throughout the essay. Balancing the need for a compelling narrative with the requirement
for a rigorous analytical framework adds an additional layer of complexity.
Moreover, the body of the essay demands a delicate dance between presenting the facts of the
case and offering insightful interpretations. Transitioning smoothly between different aspects of
the case study requires finesse, ensuring a seamless flow that engages the reader. Analyzing the
data, discussing relevant theories, and drawing connections require a deft hand to avoid
overwhelming the audience with information while maintaining the depth of analysis.
The conclusion serves as the culmination of the essay, demanding a synthesis of ideas and a
reflection on the broader implications of the case study. It's not merely a summary but a
thoughtful reflection that leaves a lasting impression on the reader. Crafting a conclusion that
resonates requires a nuanced understanding of the key takeaways and a skillful articulation of
their significance.
In essence, writing an essay on how to write a case study essay is akin to navigating a labyrinth
of research, analysis, and communication. It demands a writer's ability to seamlessly weave
together various elements while maintaining a balance between depth and accessibility. It is an
intellectually demanding task that requires not only subject matter expertise but also a mastery
of the art of composition.
For those seeking assistance in navigating the intricacies of such essays or similar tasks, there are

Analysis Of Thanatopsis By William Cullen Bryant
Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant is a poem that I sense has the major themes
of overcoming the fear of death and being one with nature. Transcendentalist
writers usually have a circle effect of their work revolving around: God, nature, and
man. God can be seen in nature while man tries to become one with nature which
can be seen through the cycle of life. As a transcendentalist, he and other writers
accepted the concept of nature as a symbol. Nature in this poem is something that
is divine and can be seen as a getaway from society. In the beginning of the poem
Thanatopsis , the first few lines set the tone and mood for how the rest of them
poem will follow. You get a sense into what the rest of the poem will be like. Bryant
begins with:
To him who in the love of Nature holds
Communion with her visible forms, she speaks
A various language; for his gayer hours
She has a voice of gladness, and a smile
And eloquence of beauty (1 5).
Here, there is a man who has a relationship with nature in a religious sort of way.
Communion is usually what happens on the first Sunday of every month at church
involving the coming together of people to feast on bread and wine of God. The
communion is meant, here, as with nature s visible forms i.e. tress, grass, rocks, etc.
He wants to exchange his intimate thoughts with nature. She is speaking to him in
different ways but in a happy voice and smiles. I get a feeling that when nature smiles
and or is happy it means that everything is at peace and tranquility. You see beauty in
the things that nature has to offer. You tune out anything distracting and you become
one. Referring it to literature, he focused on emotions and imagination to where we
as the readers can to be connected. What s really interesting I thought was a couple of
lines down. Bryant really gives vivid imagery or imagination once again in the lines:
When thoughts
Of the last bitter hour come like a blight
Over thy spirit, and sad images
Of the stern agony, and shroud, and pall,
And breathless darkness, and the narrow house,
Make thee to shudder, and grow sick at heart (8 13).
He s now having depressing thoughts running through his mind on what it would be
like to die. Death as
Father Stereotypes
Negativity Towards Fathers: Incapable Stereotype
Fathers have been degraded in many movies, television shows, and commercials
as incapable and incompetent. Stereotypes are socially constructed by society and
the media. As humans tend to label people by what we are taught and see through
the media. This stereotype arrived from the 1950 s and 1960 s sitcoms that relied
on the incapable father to keep the viewers entertained. The sitcoms in that day and
age featured a 5 o clock dad...with a newspaper as a face (Quindlen 101). In the
1950 s and 1960 s sitcoms fathers would be portrayed as coming home from work at
5 o clock and sitting on the couch reading the newspaper and most likely drinking
beer waiting on dinner. At this time period the fathers... Show more content on

As social media has grown over the past few years so have the use of the incapable
father stereotype and all round every stereotype. As social media exploded new
ways of expressing the incapable stereotype online videos show fathers incapability
in the household, not being able to take care of the kids or clean the house and
other household task. Memes and other pictures have surfaced the social media buzz
over the incapable father highlighting how fathers are seen as solely for going to
work and coming home and sitting on the couch and drinking beer. Much like the
way Peter Griffin is shown in Family Guy. Peter is shown in many episodes
watching television with a beer in his hands telling Louis to do something for him.
Many fathers can very well balance their work life and life at home. Fathers see
that they are not supposed to be able to handle both work and home but with many
more women working they have to pick up the extra task in the house to make things
work. Many fathers are fighting the stereotype when it is shown in commercials and
various television shows. Saying that the times are different than in the 1950 s and
1960 s when the stereotype was maybe more true than it is today. It is known that
now more women are out working that in the past leaving more men to help with the
kids and household work. Peter in Family Guy is shown as evidence that the media
today does not see fathers as the head of the household and fills them with a lack of
faith that people see. Although the stereotype is still famous in the entertainment
world as Family Guy is still reviving great numbers, society may stray away from the
stereotype in the
Mr. John Leech Analysis
Source C is a primary source. It is an artwork/ cartoon from London between 1817
to 1864 most likely leaning towards the latter. It shows 2 convicts asking a man if
they can walk them down an alleyway in order to protect them from people
intending to strangle them. It is also possible that this is the convict s attempt to
rob or hurt the man in the centre of the artwork. The perspective of Source C is
from a Mr. John Leech, the creator of this artwork, it is reflecting sarcasm towards
the quality of English Suburbia, the sign on the right can be noted as a ransom
note, another display of poor quality of life. It was created by John Leech, a famed
sketch artist known for his obscure and humorous artworks. He seemed to have taken
the role of the regular citizen in London at the time, and the role of the innocent

Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech And The Diary Of A Young
Girl
Is conflict something one responds to in the present with constructive actions, or do
prior efforts make the difference between conflict and resolution? Some people react
to spur of the moment situations in unusual ways. In the Nobel Prize Acceptance
Speech, by Elie Wiesel and The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank. Elie s quote
displays a phenomenon that beneficial actions are necessary to settle similar disputes.
Constructive measures like these are the stepping stones that shape the outlook on
certain circumstances. If someone is inclined to act upon conflict, it may not just
result in unwanted formalities, but also cause repetition of this act. The best way to
respond to conflict is by staying positive because it can improve health,... Show more

The Can Being Happy Change Your Personality article states, People with different
personality traits tend to experience different degrees of subjective well being . .
.individuals who are more extraverted, agreeable, conscientious, and emotionally
stable tend to experience greater satisfaction with life, more frequent positive
affect, and less frequent negative affect (Christopher). The prior events to a time
of conflict can affect the way an individual reacts. Such prior events include, mood,
emotion, and behavior. What all of these three traits relate to is, personality.
Someone with a high level of personality or well being find more hope during
conflict then others. The reason why is because more jubilation and triumph is
being sustained by the person that they look at the positive side preferably more
than the negative. The Diary of a Young Girl states, I don t think I ll ever feel at
home in this house, but that doesn t mean I hate it. It s more like being on
vacation in some strange pension. Kind of an odd way to look at life in hiding,
but that s how things are (Frank). Anne has a cheerful personality that no one can
miss. She s always talking, happy, and looking for something to do. Because of
this Anne was able to see the brighter side of her situation and change it something
of a more positive quality. In the Can Being Happy Change Your Personality
article, Jackie Christopher states, In other words, happiness and the personality
traits that go along with it may create a sort of positive feedback loop, creating
lasting changes in the personalities of people who experience a positive sense of
well being . Just because an individual does not have a superlative personality, it
doesn t mean that one can t be obtained. From getting involved in more positive
solutions the personality of that person will be improved. With having a higher
success rate it can alter an attitude to something of
NHS Core Values
This assignment will discuss the core values that underpin social and health service
delivery and will compare the current health service provision with health care
services at the inception of the NHS. The NHS has seven core values that aim to
ensure that quality care is delivered to everyone regardless of their gender, religion,
race, age, wealth or sexual orientation. These values have been developed by the
general public, patients and staff, with local authorities having to develop and adapt
these to provide personalised care. These values not only underpin the social and
healthdelivery service, but also influence the legislation regarding care. For example
the Care Act 2014 looks at integrating care, involving the patient and carer... Show

This has not changed in the current NHS, albeit more values have been added to
improve service delivery. The NHS remains free with the exception of some charges,
such as prescriptions, optical and dental services. It covers everything from antenatal
screening and routine treatments for long term conditions, to transplants, emergency
treatment and end of life care.
The National Health Service (NHS) was planned as a three tier structure. With the
Minister of Health at the top and below were the three tiers designed to interact with
each other to suit the needs of the patient. These tiers were voluntary and municipal
hospitals supervised by Regional hospital boards, family doctors, dentists, opticians
and pharmacists who were self employed professionals contracted to the NHS to
provide services so that patients did not pay directly and local health authorities like
community clinics that provided services such as immunisations, maternity care and
school medical services controlled by a local authority Medical Health. The NHS in
England is undergoing some big changes, most of which took effect on April 1 2013.
This included the abolition of primary care trusts (PCTs) and strategic health
authorities (SHAs), and the introduction of clinical commissioning groups (CCGs)
and Health watch England.
From the 1950s onwards the scale and quality of the treatment provided by the
National Health Service (NHS) improved, and between 1948
Impacts on Global Economy
Impact of Housing Market Crash
The Impact of housing Market Crash on Global Economy
The housing market in the United States became a nightmare for many people who
had taken out loans found and they were not able to pay their mortgage repayments.
When the value of homes decreased, the borrowers realized themselves with negative
capital. The negative movement of housing sector did effect the United States
economy. Individual house owners and investors could not react to the situation and
their properties lost value. Rates of mortgages increased extremely high that s why
mortgages no longer became affordable for many people, and thousands of mortgages
defaulted. Many banks and investment organizations start have ... Show more content

Then previous summer came the subprime crisis across the Atlantic. By end of the
summer, there was a run on a British lender, Northern Rock. A month later, mortgage
approvals dropped 31 percent, compared with the number in the previous year, and
by November, real estate brokers began reporting the first declines in housing prices.
In March, average prices fell 2.5 percent, the largest monthly decline since 1992,
according to HBOS, a mortgage lender. (Mark Landler, 2008)
In 2009 the total value of construction in Ukraine fell 48.2%, to 4.78 billion US
dollar, after a 16% fall in 2008, according to the State Statistics Committee. In
Chernovtsy, the centre of Western Ukraine, popularly known as Little Vienna,
construction volumes plummeted 66.8% in January, compared to the previous year.
In Kiev, construction volumes fell 27.4% over the same period. As a result of the
global crisis, developers now face financing problems. As a result, many
construction projects are frozen. In addition, the property market is being swamped
by properties sold by cash strapped buyers. (Global Property Guide 2011)
The boom in house prices was actually much bigger here than in the U.S., said Kelvin
Davidson, an economist at Capital Economics in London. If anything, people should
be more worried than in the U.S. Britain has the most developed home financing

The Anatomy Of The Cerebral Cortex
The cerebral cortex is a vital component of the brain, and is responsible for bodily
functions that would be difficult to live without. To have a more suitable expertise
of the cerebral cortex scientist divided the brain into for lobes contingent to the
purpose of what each lobe is responsible for. Each lobe of the cerebral cortexplays an
essential role in humans every day life. If one of the lobes were absent being
successful at the University of Oklahoma would be difficult if not unviable. The
cerebral cortex has numerous functions, each being unique to how it affects the
human body. Scientist categorized the cerebral cortex into four different lobes
depending on their purpose to improve our understanding and assist our research of
the cerebral cortex. The four lobes of the cerebral cortex are the Frontal, parietal,
occipital, and temporal lobes. The frontal lobe, located at the front of the brain close
to our foreheads, is in charge of more intricate and complex work of the brain. It
manages jobs such as contemplating, making decisions, and planning, but the frontal
lobe is also in charge of emotions and communication proficiency. The frontal lobe
is an important component of the cerebral cortex and is associated in most every
day life experiences. Whether it be deciding on an outfit for the day, or having a
conversation with a friend. The parietal lobe transfers our senses like contact,
temperature, and aroma into things the body can feel and comprehend. If
How Did The Weimar Republic Start
Dear Mr. /Ms. Whoever this is going to on the other side, The Weimar Republic all
though unstable at points was a system that many citizens of Germany supported.
The Weimar Republic was a situation that was not at all like the provisional
government that was seen in Russia who could not withstand any riots in the July
Days or even the October Revolution in 1917. However, the Weimar Republiccould
withstand the putsches with the help of their military the freikorps. During the
Knapp Putsch, Dr. Knapp and his right wing extremist supporters declared that the
Weimar Republic was overthrown and they were taking over. After occupying Berlin,
a mass strike was called into the situation putting down the rebellion. The Weimar
Republic had successfully... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Where they sent the freikorps to end this communist rebellion. Finally, they were
successful once again which allowed the people to have their democracy which
was one of the most democratic in all of Europe. Where people had more civil
liberties then the United States as women could vote before U.S. women could.
Also, by putting down the rebellions constantly in the first few years and not
crumbling to pieces like in Russia, it shows that the Weimar Republic wasn t going
anywhere. Moreover, that the Republic could survive even in a state of crisis with the
over looming threat of right wing terrorism and left wing rebellions. That the republic
could stand on its feet and this only increased with the introduction of Stresemann
and renewing the mark. So finally, Germany under the most democratic system in
existence at the time could do perfectly well even through their times of difficulty
because every new government has its bumps like with the provisional government
where they couldn t get anything done pushing off a constitution constantly. Instead,
the government in Germany succeeded in putting down the threats, and slowly
gaining more power and actively pushing against the threats coming at them creating
a perfectly workable system which all though isn t perfect is able to succeed in the

Empowering Independent Medi David Kaplan s Analysis
Before turning to the most interesting findings, a methodological note is due. Like
every ecosystem, the world of nonprofit investigative reporting is diverse and
dynamic. As David Kaplan summarized in his 2012 report Empowering Independent
Media, there are three main models of investigative nonprofits, although many
organizations combine elements of different models: professional associations or
networks, grant making organizations, and reporting agencies.
Professional associations or networks, similar to the U.S. based IRE, offer training,
networking and resources nationally and internationally. There are similar
organizations in more than a dozen countries, such as Brazilian Abraji, founded in
2002 and with more than 2,000 members and ... Show more content on

Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Imagine a world where women were completely subservient to men. Imagine what
it would be like to live in a society where women were home schooled, and not
allowed to attend any type of university. What would today s society be like if
women lawyers, doctors, actors, and military soldiers were nonexistent? It would be
a modern day version of the Elizabethan era in England. This was a time period
where women had little rights, but the dramatic arts flourished due to Queen
Elizabeth s appreciation for them. It was during this time period that literary genius
William Shakespeare wrote his many plays including The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.
Living in this time period caused him to look at women in a somewhat submissive
way and portray them as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Caesar dismisses this foolish idea, and continues to go the capitol as
planned. Within the next few scenes, it is made known that her interpretation was
more than accurate. Although Portia did not play a large part in foreshadowing
important incidents, she did allude to the events that would occur later in the play.
Prithee, listen well. I heard a bustling rumor, like a fray, And the wind brings it from
the Capitol. (2.4.17 19)
As she says this, she is referring to the noise of an activity taking place in the
capitol, which we soon learn is Caesar s death.
Women, however having a large role in the foreshadowing of Julius Caesar, still seem
to be in a lower social class than the men who surround them. Calphurnia warns
Caesar about not going to the capitol on the ides of March with a very vivid
description of a dream she had. She dreamt tonight she saw my statue, Which, like a
fountain with an hundred spouts, Did run pure blood, and many lusty Romans Came
smiling and did bathe their hands in it. (2.2.76 79)
Yet, Decius arrives and offers another interpretation of the dream, which has a better
outcome for Caesar. He decides to agree with deceitful Decius s interpretation over
his loyal wife s. Had Calphurnia been a man, and Decius a woman, would Julius
Caesar still have disregarded the

The Night of Fire
The Night (Fire engine, boys, rain)
April 24th, 2012; the sound of the news on the television hums in the background
drowned out by people talking and laughing. Fire Station 141 is buzzing with life;
everything is in calm and peaceful; when suddenly a loud screaming sound rings
through the brick walls. All of the men in the station startle to attention and rush
around in organized chaos. The shuffling of boots on the smooth concrete floors
and ruffling of thick fire suits is drowned out by the resounding alarm. The men
pile into the large red trucks and screech out of the station. The alarm becomes
silent and the station is abandoned and the only sound it the news humming in the
background. The men hardly fit in the small quarters of the truck. The smell of
burnt rubber and gasoline fill the cramped space. The sirens atop the thick metal
roof of the truck bounce back and forth on houses and cars nearby. Dark clouds start
to form above the speeding truck and soon the rain is playing a soft beat on the roof.
The cold weather creates a pale fog against the window. Everything starts to slow
down and become faded, the dark night outside the window now is everywhere and
a group of boys are playing baseball. The ball is a dirty cream color and is throwing
off water as it spins through the air, then smack it hits a leather glove with an
explosion of water up into a young boy s smiling face. There is a newspaper on the
ground that is soaked but the date says April 24th, 1986.
Plagiarism in College Work Essay example
Plagiarism takes various forms. A student may cheat doing something as extreme as
purchasing a paper, hiring someone to write a paper or turning in a paper freely
provided by a friend. Many students unknowingly commit Plagiarism by failing to
properly cite their sources crediting the authors. Still others cite, but plagiarize by
coping much too much and writingfar, far too little of their own synthesized thoughts
and ideas. Students must be careful about copying too much. If a paper is mostly
other writers material, that can be considered Plagiarism, even if the student credits
their sources.
What Exactly is Plagiarism?
According to Purdue Owl, Plagiarism is the uncredited use (both intentional and
unintentional) of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The teacher would type in a specific quote into the search engine and see what results
come up. Another technique teacher s use is to have a sit down conference with the
student writer to see how familiar the student is with their own work.
Students have tools for checking their own paper for Plagiarism violations too.
Plagiarism prevention tools like Turnitin and SafeAssign provide options for student
submission papers.
Consequences of Plagiarism
Most colleges and universities have Academic Honesty policies that address
Plagiarism. At Sierra College, consequences of Plagiarism include a failing grade for
the assignment or the entire course. Also, a student may be referred to the
Disciplinary Officer for more server consequences like suspension or expulsion.
Tips For Avoiding Plagiarism
In order to avoid Plagiarism a student must use proper citations. According to a
journal article by Sarah Estow, Eva Lawrence, and Kathrynn Adams, Results suggest
repeated hands on exposure to the topic of plagiarism improves plagiarism avoidance
and understanding. (Estow, Lawrence and Adams 2012)
Writing Style Standards and Plagiarism
There are several popular writing styles standards including MLA, APA, Chicago
/Turabian, CE, and Harvard. In order to avoid Plagiarism, each style standard has
specific citation requirements that must be carefully implemented. The particular
style used for a paper

Civic Consulting Project Observation Report
As a political Science major I generally have a strong interest in government. As a
lifelong resident of public housing, I have a specific interest in the New York City
Housing Authority. So, when Civic Consulting USA, an organization dedicated to
helping government leaders tackle some of the toughest issues cities face , offered
me a fellowship in a project intended to improve NYCHA; it was quite easy to
accept the opportunity. This essay is will discuss some of my thoughts I must admit
that going into this project, I was initially quite dubious of NYCHA s ability or even
desire to improveliving conditions. My skepticism stems from being a lifelong
resident of Throggs Neck Housing, a development were problems are met with a
plethora of excuses rather than any type of remedy. However, I was pleasantly
surprised when I met members of the executive staff. Everyone was incredibly adept
and committed to their jobs they fully understood the gravity of their responsibilities.
Most importantly of all, I sensed a true compassion and earnest desire to improve the

professional backgrounds pondered the issues facing NYCHA and offerer advice and
potential solutions that may be outside of the conventional wisdom of a government
agency. I enjoyed learning about the ways in which government can incorporate tools
developed by private forces to trigger organizational changes which ultimately help
the government agency and its beneficiaries. What I appreciate most about this type
of public private relationship, particularly fostered by Civic Consulting is that it is
more concerned with genuine government improvement, rather than the profit
Tom Regan s The Case For Animal Rights
In The Case for Animal Rights, Tom Regan emphasizes his philosophy on animal
and human equality. After reading further into his work, he illustrates a societal
system that belittles animals and their significance to our own existence. Regan
conceptualizes that animals won t have real rights unless we change our beliefs. We
need to acknowledge a problem. After identifying the issue, we must recognize that
there is a need for change in society. In addition, he also reiterates the importance of
the populace changing the way they view animals. The way society views animals
will create a snowball effect that will influence politicians to also believe in animal
rights. The manner we regard animal rights is a matter of moralitynot mortality.

theme that the definition of a good man is mysterious and flawed is apparent. The
reader must realize that it is difficult to universalize the definition of a good man
because every person goes through different experiences. Thus, these experiences
affect his or her viewpoint and in turn flaw ones view on a good man. O Connor
conveys this theme through her excellent use of diction, imagery, foreshadowing, and
symbolism as well as through a creative use of repetition and an omniscient point of
view.
The grandmother, the main character of the story, is manipulative. Her definition of
a good man refers to the characteristics that a good man should possess. She believes
that the true definition of a good man is a southern gentleman: respectful, chivalrous,
and courageous when necessary. From the beginning, the reader is given the
indication that the grandmother is determined to get what she wants and will do
whatever she can to do so. And, from the second line of the story, O Connor suggests
that anything the grandmother says might have an alternative motive. The
grandmother didn t want to go to Florida. She wanted to visit some of her
connections in east Tennessee and she was seizing at every chance to change Bailey
s mind (1284). This is relevant to the theme in that a person may have alternate
motives, even if they seem to be doing things selflessly from an outsider s
perspective. When

Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy? Came from. In this story Tim O Brien
reflected his life in the story, and by doing so, he created a tense mood and used it
to exploit the idea of fear. He does so by recreating his own experiences from the
war and portraying into the story. The fact that the events are real in this story allows
him to put a certain tone of edginess and danger to the text. The Vietnam war is what
helped O Brien become good author. Immediately after graduating from McAlester
College he was drafted into the United States Armyin 1968. While in the army he
spent two years as an infantryman on the front lines in Vietnam. O Brien being in
Vietnam influenced the events involved in the story, Where Have You Gone,

Samarium Vs Neodymium
Many extraterrestrial objects present during the early years of our universe, including
Earth, have been shown to share similar levels of Neodymium 142, an isotope of
Neodymium. Neodymium 142, which is found throughout the Earth s crust, was
researched to be present alongside Samarium within the formation of our Solar
System. Researchers were previously hinted to this discovery in 2005, when 142Nd
was found in chondrites, which are meteorites considered to be the building blocks of
terrestrial rocks. Data collected from this research was used to detect differences
between the Earths interior layers and chondrites for its first 30 million years. The

How Did The Tet Offensive Changed History
The 1968 Tet Offensive was an event that changed history, an event that led to another
event that no country thought would ever happen. A United States defeat, what every
country in the world after World War II saw as impossible, was made possible by the
failed mission of the Tet Offensive. The Tet Offensive was an attack conducted by the
North Vietnamese Army (NVA) and the National Liberation Front (NLF) on the
South Vietnamese government in an attempt to defeat the South, which were being
supported by the United Statesfor being anti communist. The Tet Offensive was
launched on the Vietnamese new year of Tet on January 30 and 31. The Tet
Offensive was a strategy developed by North Vietnamese General Vo Nguyen Giap
during the Vietnam War.

As mentioned before, the Vietnam war occurred because of United States
involvement in Vietnamese politics and attempts to end communism. The Tet
Offensive, which was a terrible failure turned out to be a huge success, here is a
quote from a credible source showing this: Failing to spark revolts, the Tet
Offensive was a costly military failure. Without a public uprising, most attacks were
little more than suicidal raids because of the small number of troops. The broad
offensive also lacked plans for retreat, which led to further casualties. PAVN and
NLF losses were estimated at 45,000, of an 84,000 member attack force; South
Vietnamese losses were 2,300 while the United States suffered 1,100 combat
fatalities. The main goal of the North Vietnamese Tet Offensive was to launch a series
attacks on military and government sites in South Vietnam, and take control and apply
communist rule. Although the Tet Offensive failed to take South Vietnam, it defeated
the United States. This is because when the Tet Offensive was launched, North
Vietnam was close to defeat, and the United States attempt to stop the spread of
communism was almost successful. However, when this attack was launched, North
Vietnamese soldiers pushed the South and the United States back and the war
continued raging on until President Richard Nixon s order for United States
withdrawal in 1973. This, again, was one of the most significant moments in history
because it showed the rest of the world that the West could be

The chairperson should bring the meeting back to order. The chairperson can even
opt to writing the ideas on a board and they can be brought out for discussion later on
if time persists.
Why is a chairperson necessary?
The chairperson ensure the meeting time is well spent and not wasted. They bring the
conversation back to the agenda if participants begin to digress from the topics of
discussion.
Who should chair meetings? Why?
The role of chair should rotate with each meeting. This allows those to gain
experience communicating with colleagues and staff.
How long should each meeting last? Why?
The meeting should only last as long as necessary in order to achieve its purpose.
How can active participation in meetings be encouraged?
Acknowledge the participants when ideas are spoken. Thank them for their input.
Allow participants to put something on the agenda either before the meeting or for
the next.
Why are minutes necessary?
Minutes are necessary for the organizations records. They allow those who did not
participate to know where the organization is at with decisions. This is the same for
stake holders and shareholders.

Interviewing a few of moderators in this community gave insight into how it

administrative side of the community. These two roles may sound similar, but they
have striking differences that make their variation requisite to the success of the
community. The higher of the two being the Administrative, position or the admin for
short. The second role is the Moderator, or mod. During normal operation, these roles
share many of the same responsibilities of each other. That is, until one important

Contrast this with the role of the administrator. During high time, the administrators
are focusing on what the future of the group will hold. To conceptualize this, they
will be participating in the social image of the community. This may entail
advertisements, interview results, website review, and magazine publications. They
ll be the ones imagining, after this event dies down, what will our group look like?
What will we stand for after it is complete? Who will we be? Together, these two
roles are the scaffolding for the governance of this community.
There are a few other roles below the moderator and administrator position, which
play less of a role in the administration of the group. The one such role to note is the
community s database of information editors. These individuals are assigned the
role after speaking specifically to an admin who will ask what section of the
database they are interested in contributing to. The users are put on a trial as well
where all of their initial posts are reviewed prior to full release. Once they have
access, they are given the task to documenting pertinent information to the subject
they ve been assigned. The user will learn about proper documentation techniques,
and will become an elder within the topic.

Sargent Murray s On The Equality Of The Sexes
The raising era of democracy happened throughout the presidency of Jackson. He
changed direction of politics in the US. The citizens benefited from it because they
were able to see that their needs were not ignored anymore. All this could not have
happened by itself though. The work of the people in politics, economy and religion

The idea of equality between sexes had slowly been rising, but in 1790 Judith
Sargent Murray wrote On the Equality of the Sexes . Murray was a feminist of her

The Second Great Awakening was a time period where there was a lot of
conversion to Christianity and if not converted, you were a sinner for it and did
not deserve forgiveness. In 1836, Charles G. Finney wrote a sermon called Sinner
Bound to Change Their Own Lives . With this sermon, Finney believed that men
were not the sinful creature and that there was salvation to get closer to God. In
this sermon, he gives the reader the idea that Christianity and liberty can not live
without each other. He also indicates that just like in religion, there is a good and a
bad. There is a party that worships Satan by being sinners, but there is also the
party of God who follows the law. Here is where the reveal of democracy shows in
the people. They know what is best for themselves by getting away from sin and
obeying the laws like they should and encouraging other to do so as well. Finney
states in his sermon that religion and democracy are similar because in religion
you have the minister helping sinner and in a democracy you have the lawyer
helping the jury. The way Finner uses his words is in a way to convince his
audience that they are similar and one must obey the laws to get away from the sin.
A great example of this would be drinking alcohol. During this time period, drinking
seemed wrong and churches through democracy and by the voice of the people,
achieved to make alcohol an illegal consumption. This allowed them to make other
people also get away from sin and encourage them to join the church to have salvation

which was simulating the SS 21 tactical ballistic missile (TBM) threat. During the

reports in Israel began to paint a troubling picture of Patriot s ability to defeat tactical
ballistic missiles. Successful Patriot engagements may have simply diverted or
broken up the incoming missile. While the missile did not impact the planned target,
debris from the engagement caused widespread damage on the ground. Some reports
of Patriot interceptors chasing TBMs to the ground also surfaced. The missile used
by Iraq, the SCUD B variant Al Husayn, had a tendency for breaking apart upon
reentry into the atmosphere. When this happened after Patriot forces had fired
interceptors, the missiles in flight were suddenly confronted by two or more targets
instead of one, and there was not enough time to launch additional interceptors
(Postol, 1991, p. 130). The most well known failure of Patriot during this war
happened due to a timing error within the software produced by continuous operation
of the system. The error continued to get worst, the longer the system was running.
At this location, the system had been running continuously for 100 hours. This error
caused the Patriot battery to fail to track an incoming TBM. The missile impacted an

dozens. An Israeli Patriot unit had identified the timing error and a software

Genesis Chapter 37-45 Analysis
Did He trick me into a rosy belief in Him? I have been a Christian for over four
decades, and I still Cannot fathom why He allows us to form our own pictures of
Him. Is it so he can jump up from behind the table and say: Boo! Gottcha! In
Genesis, chapters 37 45, we read the story of Joseph. It is eight chapters, but not
such a long account when one considers it covers most of Joseph s life. Joseph was
the eleventh of twelve sons born to the patriarch, Jacob, and the firstborn of his
beloved wife, Rachel. Jacob spoiled Joseph. At least that is what is implied, for he
gave him the gift of a colorful robe, a robe he did not give to his other children.
Perhaps I am reading something into the story that is not there, but Joseph appeared
to be a very good kid, a little cocky, maybe. He was Jacob s pride and joy and how he
must have felt blessed by God to have such a son.... Show more content on

Is it reasonable to conclude that Joseph became disillusioned with God? There is
no doubt in my mind that Jacob had shared with his children the promise God had
given to his forefather, Abraham. And what about Jacob? In his youth he was
wild, but he had settled down, grown up. Again, I am speaking without clear
knowledge, but it is possible to conclude that both Joseph and Jacob became
depressed and overwhelmed with life. But the Bible does not say how the players
felt during the middle of this sordid tale. It just tells how Joseph felt at the end.
You meant evil against me, Joseph eventually tells his brothers. But God meant it
for good. Notice that Joseph did not say God brought good out of the horrible life
experience he endured but God meant good. Not, mind you, God s intentions were
good, or God said or did something that turned out wrong, even though He meant it
for right. Or God made a birthday cake, but it tipped to one side and the icing melted

Activist Reform Case
A good and successful activist reform would result in the long term value creation for
the target company, which would benefit both the shareholders and the bondholders.
The activist reform would motivate management to achieve operating efficiencies,
which would improve cash flows and generate better returns for both the shareholders
and bondholders. In conclusion, I find the objections to the strategies of activists
raised by the managers of Commonwealth REIT and other companies in the article
vague. However, the managers need to distinguish between the activists looking for
short term profits and the activists looking for a long term value creation. The former
might destroy some value in the process so the managers need to fend off those
attacks.
It is management s fiduciary duty to maximize the stockholder value, and they
should act accordingly. If the company has extra cash they should return it to the
shareholders in form of either dividends or share repurchase. While it is wise to
hold on to cash to fund future acquisitions, pay off the debt, and have some financial
flexibility however managers like to accumulate as much as financial slack as

profitably as they would be less dependent on the external market for capital. Payouts
to the shareholders would reduce manager s power and they would incur the
monitoring of the outsiders (capital markets, activists, etc.). This managerial behavior
would cause agency dilemma as shareholders and managers will have conflicts of
interest over the payout
Naomi Shihab Nye Multiculturalism
Born in 1952 to a Palestinian father and an American mother of German descent, at
St. Louis, Missouri, Naomi Shihab Nye grew up in a multicultural home
(Lauther,2975). Her biculturalism and her cosmopolitanism are, clearly, a product of
her bi (even multi ) cultural and racial family: a Palestinian father, who is very
conscious and assertive of his roots, a motherwho is very tolerant, and grandparents
on both ends who though they have some tensions regarding place and culture do
ultimately accept it. It is due to these tensions and celebrations, acceptance and some
resistance, that Nye s sense of biculturalism is both complex and unique (Alkhadra, )
She was introduced to the world of writing at an early age. Her father was one of the
Behavioral Science And Community Health
For Department of Behavioral Science and Community Health
Around 6 years of age, I was outside playing with other children when I noticed a
group of people building something in an area. Everyone gathered around to observe
them and saw water coming out of a pump. There were a few stories about drinking
unsafe water or eating contaminated foods which led to gastrointestinal diseases, but
very little effort was made to prevent this. While in my undergraduate years studying
to become a physician, I noticed how doctors were trained in interventional medicine,
but not many practiced preventive medicine. I decided that I wanted to enact positive
impact by assessing and analyzing data to understand public health problems,
developing programs to address the issues and designing methods to measure the
efficiency of health interventions in order to improve population health. By the end of
my sophomore year, I started pursuing a degree in public health.
At X University, I took two courses Community Health Promotion and Epidemiology
that captured my interest in Behavioral Community Health Sciences. As I listened to
experts speak intensively about effective communication with vulnerable population
and ways to modify incidence, prevalence and mortality rates within the
communities, I saw the possibilities of improving the quality of lives for many. My
professors carried such genuine interest in educating us on various public health
issues that by the end of the course, I was sure
The Conflict Between Illusions And Reality In Katherine...
An individual s self perception has the power to convince them that life is much more
fulfilling through illusions then facing their own reality. When a person is unable to
reconcile the conflict between their illusions and reality, their illusions may be altered
to meet the truth of their existence. However, when reality reasserts itself, an
individual may not be able to reconcile with the conception that their illusionis not an
actual reality but just an imagination. An imagination could conceal the sufferings
that an individual may be enduring. Sufferings can put a burden of emotions on an
individual and make them feel like there s no place for them in the world. In the
short story, Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield, the character of Miss Brill upholds
an idea to live in a world of illusions. Her illusions allow her reality to disappear but
her reality is nowhere near the imaginary world she is living in. Therefore, when a
person is desperate for a better sense of reality rather than a lonely and tiresome
one, they will try to produce their own illusion and obscure their reality, to live in
their own illusion. Miss Brill alters her perception of reality to avoid facing
unpleasant aspects of her life. Therefore, she lives her life in an illusion that she is
an actress and the director of a play. Yes, have been an actress for a long time
(4), from
this passage an individual could evidently suggest that Miss Brill sees herself as an
actress. However, in reality, she s not
Attrition From Higher Education Institution
1. INTRODUCTION
Attrition from Higher Education Institution (HEI) programmes is worryingly on the
increase (Russell Group 2010). However, students that drop out of pre registration
nursing programmes are of particular concern, not only to the HEI but the
Government and the NHS also due to the requirement to meet the needs of the NHS
recruitment and demands of an increasingly ageing society that relies on qualified
nurses (DOH 2007). Indeed the type of funding that student nurses receive and the
amount of money that is invested by Strategic Health Authorities (SHA) and
Government in them suggests that attrition is a costly problem (DOH 2009).
It is difficult to gather specific statistical data regarding attrition rates as ... Show

A more recent report produced by the Department of Health states that the attrition
rate from pre registration nursing programmes stands at 16% (DOH 2010). This
statistic differs greatly from the national average of 27% reported direct to the RCN
by the HEIs. The United Kingdom figures do generally appear favourable however
compared to countries such as Italy (65%) and the USA (37%) (International Audit
office, 2007).
Statistics produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (2011) highlight that
the percentage drop out rate for students on all types of Degree level programmes is
relatively low at approximately 10% whereas for those studying the Diploma level
programme the drop out rate increases to 17%. Therefore the statistics identified for
attrition from pre registration nursing programmes are higher that the average
attrition rate of all other Degree and Diploma programmes.
A higher completion rate among pre registration nurses will enhance the NHS
workforce of qualified nurses and will help towards the Department of Health Our
Health, Our Care, Our Say (DOH 2006a) goal to ensure individual excellence of care
for all. Higher retention of students would also aide the HEIs involved in the
education of pre registration nursing as SHA and Government targets will be met and
financial penalties
Walkabout
For decades now, one intrinsic film has been brought up on a list of renowned
movies that are missing from the distribution. The movie Walkabout is a 1971
drama about two British siblings a little boy and his older fourteen year old sister,
who are marooned and lost in the Australian outback by their father and are saved
by an Aborigine boy who is, walking his rite of passage into manhood. Nicolas Roeg
was a cinematographer before he was a director, and this is one of the best
photographed films ever filmed . This movie is also about peace and tranquility on
earth, which finds beauty in small things such as mankind s kindness and how it can
adapt quickly to harsh environments while civilization just tries to pave them over or
wall them off. The movie takes its magnificent name from a tradition among the
Australian Aborigines: At the time of transition to young manhood, an adolescent...

And the film shows we will fight until our very last breath, even if it means we
might die in the end. Walkabout is the biggest test for mankind can one survive in
the sweltering heat like lizards that sit unblinking in the sun. The movie views
civilization and life as unfulfilling and arid, but idealism allows us to believe that
there is some kind of happiness out there for everybody. With happiness comes a
price to everyone like the film suggests when the two siblings visit a tree in the
middle of the outback and consume all of the water but forgot to bottle the rest of it.
But then the aborigine decides to help the two people even if it means that he could
never show his face at his tribe again because he wasn t alone during the walkabout.
With that being said when this situation comes about the person pursuing the
walkabout must merry or never be heard from again from the only family you have
ever known. So that leaves one option and that is suicidal
The Bridge on the River Kwai
The film I have chosen for my 1950 s film analysis is The Bridge on the River Kwai.
Directed by David Lean, The Bridge on the River Kwai follows a battalion of British
soldiers who find themselves trapped in a Japanese POW camp during WWII in
1943. The British soldieries are led by Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) who is
ordered by the commandant of the POW camp, Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa), to
build a railroad bridge over the Burmese river Kwai.
Colonel Nicholson refuses to help build the bridge based on the fact that the Geneva
Convention strictly forbids using officers as laborers. After a lengthy battle of wills
between Saito and Nicholson, Saito, realizing that the bridge will never be completed
on time without Nicholson s help, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with the majority of critics that the film is very good even compared to
more modern war films such as Lone Survivor. Like Lone Survivor the genius of
The Bridge on the River Kwai is that it focuses on the individual soldiers and their
struggles not on the war itself. This allows you to empathize with the characters; even
the Japanese soldiers who run the camp.
Nicholson and Saito encompass the values that a solider and a man should have
specifically duty, honor, purpose, and loyalty. Saito has a duty to complete the
bridge while Nicholson has a duty to ensure the survival of his men. Honor is best
displayed by Saito who is prepared to kill himself if the bridge isn t completed on
time as missing his deadline would dishonor him. According to the code of Bushido,
which Saito and the Japanese subscribe to, the righteous thing to do when you
dishonor yourself is to kill yourself. Purpose is shown by Nicholson when he states
to Saito There are times when suddenly you realize you re nearer the end than the
beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life
represents. For Nicholson the one physical thing that gives his life meaning, that
represents him, is the bridge. By completing the bridge he proves to himself and
everyone else that his life had purpose; that he accomplished something meaningful.
The final value displayed is loyalty.
China s Influence On The United States
The products of China played a role in the way the United States came about and how
their identity was created and solidified. China was seen as influential and beneficial
for the Americans through trade and customs that they brought along with them.
Some individuals have traveled over to the United States for the Gold Rush and
others just wanted a better life for their future and for their families future. There
were other convincing reasons that pushed the Chinese to migrate away from their
hometown into a new environment as well. Chinese people were the first to migrate
to the United States. Majority of the young men chose to come over to experience a
better life in the States. However, the only Chinese women that would be able to...

Groups that would agree and come over to work as a coolie were from Hong Kong,
Canton, Macao, Amoy, and Swatow. Social challenges the Chinese experienced
ranged from how they were treated in their jobs to how they would marry. Along with
the occurrence of the coolie trade, the workers are upset at the employers abuse and
how they cannot regulate the laws within their job. When the Chinese came over, the
Americans were discriminating against them and their manner. The way Americans
described Chinese revolved about how China s culture is not normal because it is
being compared to their American culture and racialized comments. When you
move into a new town or city, it is harder to get comfortable when the ones that
already resides in area are judgmental and puts down the newer people. The
Americans called the Chinese hurtful and unkind words like: cowardly ,
submissive , silly grunts , and menaces . Interracial marriages were shunned and
disapproved by many, it created problems in racial and family order. An example of
how a Chinese man with a White woman relationship was ruined when Elise Sigel
was murdered and Leon Ling was called out for the murder because there was a
rumor that they were in an affiliation with one another. From this incident and others,
there were laws that were created to separate whites and Asian individuals from
getting into any sort of relationship or contact. The Chinese did not have much to say

Rhetorical Analysis of Earl Spencer s Speech for the...
In this assignment, I will closely analyse the speech made by Earl Spencer for the
funeral of Lady Diana, considering the complicated context and literary devises he
uses to affect his audience.
The speech was written as a funeral speech for Diana s close family and friends, but
also, more importantly, for the public, as it was broadcasted worldwide.
In the speech, although it s primary purpose is to pay respects to his sister; he uses
the opportunity to promote Diana s charity work, and to raise controversy within the
royal family.
He never directly says it, but when analysing the text his feelings towards the royal
family are apparent; from the fact that he mentions, she needed no ... Show more

He uses lots of abstract nouns, to create an image of Diana e.g. the very essence of
compassion, of duty, of style, of beauty. The group of four descriptive words
emphasises these images. He also uses metaphors, like sparkle which makes people
think of light, a symbol of life and vitality.
He always refers to his sister as Diana, never as princess or Lady, which would be to
formal, making it sound less emotional; but also never as Di , which would be to
informal and personal for a funeral speech aimed at so many.
Earl Spencer creates many contradicting images, which balance each other out. He
often mentions religious references, God granted you but half a life , God given ,
rush to canonise . This creates an angelic picture in the minds of the audience, which
would seem exaggerated, but he also describes Diana as a human. Insecure person .
This balance between contradictory images, and suitably formal writing style helps to
make the speech so powerful.
He uses pronouns like we , and our which unite the audience, making them feel like
the whole nation is grieving with them.
The pronouns shift, as he speaks to Diana herself, you brightened our lives , then
again, towards then end of the speech, to I . This makes it seem like he is releasing
his own personal emotions, showing the side of Diana he knew. These changes in
pronouns not only change
Muslim Women Stereotypes
Breaking the Stereotypes.
Orientalism, is a current of European ideas, focused on the East. West is interpreting
the stereotypes about the Eastern world and its culture. West has made a stereotype
proving to themselves that the Muslim Women are not given the space and value in
the society and are weak. Gender inequality, patriarchy and sexual objectification is
a global issue for Muslim women. Also, the issue for Muslim women for becoming
political and religious agents due to veil. Many stereotypes are proposed and to
explain the origin of these stereotypes Leila Abu Lughod wrote Do Muslim Women

Orientalism has long been the subject of a religious criticism in the Arab Muslim
world that undertakes to defend Islam against the defamatory image that many
orientalist writings give it, but often confuses it in the same Opprobrium of
Orientalists, atheists and enemies of the Arab nation. This criticism is so classic
that the expression lies and calumnies of orientalists and atheists has become a
commonplace in our countries. Some of these religious critics have realized that
the orientalist was acting in concert with the colonizer, that is to say, they have
become aware of the political dimension of the question of orientalism, but this
dimension has always remained secondary. While Keith Windschuttle has
something different to say about Said s Orientalism as Keith writes in his article
called Edward Said s Orientalism revisited . He has questioned Said s work and the
way said has given solution like working and considering the social, religious and
political concepts of Muslim women. He claims that Said s theory is contradicting
with the other in his own article. Windschuttle s article offers a critic on Edward Said
s Orientalism. The article talks about how some issues
Analysis Of Gretchen Reynolds The Ultimate Machine
The Ultimate Machine In the article by Gretchen Reynolds, Gretchen talks about
how by just running an hour a day you are adding on seven hours to your life.
Running is the best exercise you can do to improve your life expectancy. It doesn t
matter if you are a slow runner or you smoke and drink, you can still add up to three
years to your life by taking the time to get outside and run. Research was done to
prove this point. A study was conducted at the Cooper Institute in Dallas. Researchers
found that even as little as five minutes of runninga day could increase your lifespan.
Of course running does not make you immortal but it does benefit your health in
other ways as well. Running involves many parts of our bodies. The muscles in your
Love For Common Good In The Funeral Oration By
Pericles
The funeral oration by Pericles is filled with instances in which he exhibits love for
common good that surpasses individual benefit. According to Pericles, the
Athenians illuminate qualities of people who are good and contribute to the benefit
of their city because it is in fact great. In this case, it is possible for the reader to
infer that common good can only be attained if the society in which individuals live
is permissive of the same. Indeed, it is human nature to tend to feel the individual
needand promote its good as opposed to what is good for the society in general.
However, Periclesattempts to resolve this predicament of individual and common
good by showcasing that people are capable for having such a collective form of
thinking if they reside in a society that is permissive of the same. The inference can
be gathered from the manner in which the orator describes Athens with so much awe.
In his opinion, the cityis to be admired because it is economically, socially, and
politically great. There is a high level of democracy in Athens, so much so that
anyone can wake up one day and decide to be a ruler. He regards the city as one to be
admired by many, and in which the aspects of equality and... Show more content on

In this case, one can come to the conclusion that Pericles did not think small cities
deserved the same sacrifices as a big city like Athens. For this reason he kept
emphasizing the people s sacrifices with what Athens offered them. Thucydides
showcased this through the emphasis that he Pericles placed on the greatness of
Athens. In essence, one can note that Thucydides goes beyond a mere description of
the city, and goes overboard in the emphasis of how great it is. Indeed, even though
Pericles may have talked in awe of the city, it is apparent that the historian who
captured this story, Thucydides,

  • 3. Analysis Of Thanatopsis By William Cullen Bryant Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant is a poem that I sense has the major themes of overcoming the fear of death and being one with nature. Transcendentalist writers usually have a circle effect of their work revolving around: God, nature, and man. God can be seen in nature while man tries to become one with nature which can be seen through the cycle of life. As a transcendentalist, he and other writers accepted the concept of nature as a symbol. Nature in this poem is something that is divine and can be seen as a getaway from society. In the beginning of the poem Thanatopsis , the first few lines set the tone and mood for how the rest of them poem will follow. You get a sense into what the rest of the poem will be like. Bryant begins with: To him who in the love of Nature holds Communion with her visible forms, she speaks A various language; for his gayer hours She has a voice of gladness, and a smile And eloquence of beauty (1 5). Here, there is a man who has a relationship with nature in a religious sort of way. Communion is usually what happens on the first Sunday of every month at church involving the coming together of people to feast on bread and wine of God. The communion is meant, here, as with nature s visible forms i.e. tress, grass, rocks, etc. He wants to exchange his intimate thoughts with nature. She is speaking to him in different ways but in a happy voice and smiles. I get a feeling that when nature smiles and or is happy it means that everything is at peace and tranquility. You see beauty in the things that nature has to offer. You tune out anything distracting and you become one. Referring it to literature, he focused on emotions and imagination to where we as the readers can to be connected. What s really interesting I thought was a couple of lines down. Bryant really gives vivid imagery or imagination once again in the lines: When thoughts Of the last bitter hour come like a blight Over thy spirit, and sad images Of the stern agony, and shroud, and pall, And breathless darkness, and the narrow house, Make thee to shudder, and grow sick at heart (8 13). He s now having depressing thoughts running through his mind on what it would be like to die. Death as
  • 4. Father Stereotypes Negativity Towards Fathers: Incapable Stereotype Fathers have been degraded in many movies, television shows, and commercials as incapable and incompetent. Stereotypes are socially constructed by society and the media. As humans tend to label people by what we are taught and see through the media. This stereotype arrived from the 1950 s and 1960 s sitcoms that relied on the incapable father to keep the viewers entertained. The sitcoms in that day and age featured a 5 o clock dad...with a newspaper as a face (Quindlen 101). In the 1950 s and 1960 s sitcoms fathers would be portrayed as coming home from work at 5 o clock and sitting on the couch reading the newspaper and most likely drinking beer waiting on dinner. At this time period the fathers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As social media has grown over the past few years so have the use of the incapable father stereotype and all round every stereotype. As social media exploded new ways of expressing the incapable stereotype online videos show fathers incapability in the household, not being able to take care of the kids or clean the house and other household task. Memes and other pictures have surfaced the social media buzz over the incapable father highlighting how fathers are seen as solely for going to work and coming home and sitting on the couch and drinking beer. Much like the way Peter Griffin is shown in Family Guy. Peter is shown in many episodes watching television with a beer in his hands telling Louis to do something for him. Many fathers can very well balance their work life and life at home. Fathers see that they are not supposed to be able to handle both work and home but with many more women working they have to pick up the extra task in the house to make things work. Many fathers are fighting the stereotype when it is shown in commercials and various television shows. Saying that the times are different than in the 1950 s and 1960 s when the stereotype was maybe more true than it is today. It is known that now more women are out working that in the past leaving more men to help with the kids and household work. Peter in Family Guy is shown as evidence that the media today does not see fathers as the head of the household and fills them with a lack of faith that people see. Although the stereotype is still famous in the entertainment world as Family Guy is still reviving great numbers, society may stray away from the stereotype in the
  • 5. Mr. John Leech Analysis Source C is a primary source. It is an artwork/ cartoon from London between 1817 to 1864 most likely leaning towards the latter. It shows 2 convicts asking a man if they can walk them down an alleyway in order to protect them from people intending to strangle them. It is also possible that this is the convict s attempt to rob or hurt the man in the centre of the artwork. The perspective of Source C is from a Mr. John Leech, the creator of this artwork, it is reflecting sarcasm towards the quality of English Suburbia, the sign on the right can be noted as a ransom note, another display of poor quality of life. It was created by John Leech, a famed sketch artist known for his obscure and humorous artworks. He seemed to have taken the role of the regular citizen in London at the time, and the role of the innocent bystander, even the man in the middle could be the embodiment of people like him, or at the very least a man which he can sympathise with.... • 6. Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech And The Diary Of A Young Girl Is conflict something one responds to in the present with constructive actions, or do prior efforts make the difference between conflict and resolution? Some people react to spur of the moment situations in unusual ways. In the Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, by Elie Wiesel and The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank. Elie s quote displays a phenomenon that beneficial actions are necessary to settle similar disputes. Constructive measures like these are the stepping stones that shape the outlook on certain circumstances. If someone is inclined to act upon conflict, it may not just result in unwanted formalities, but also cause repetition of this act. The best way to respond to conflict is by staying positive because it can improve health,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Can Being Happy Change Your Personality article states, People with different personality traits tend to experience different degrees of subjective well being . . .individuals who are more extraverted, agreeable, conscientious, and emotionally stable tend to experience greater satisfaction with life, more frequent positive affect, and less frequent negative affect (Christopher). The prior events to a time of conflict can affect the way an individual reacts. Such prior events include, mood, emotion, and behavior. What all of these three traits relate to is, personality. Someone with a high level of personality or well being find more hope during conflict then others. The reason why is because more jubilation and triumph is being sustained by the person that they look at the positive side preferably more than the negative. The Diary of a Young Girl states, I don t think I ll ever feel at home in this house, but that doesn t mean I hate it. It s more like being on vacation in some strange pension. Kind of an odd way to look at life in hiding, but that s how things are (Frank). Anne has a cheerful personality that no one can miss. She s always talking, happy, and looking for something to do. Because of this Anne was able to see the brighter side of her situation and change it something of a more positive quality. In the Can Being Happy Change Your Personality article, Jackie Christopher states, In other words, happiness and the personality traits that go along with it may create a sort of positive feedback loop, creating lasting changes in the personalities of people who experience a positive sense of well being . Just because an individual does not have a superlative personality, it doesn t mean that one can t be obtained. From getting involved in more positive solutions the personality of that person will be improved. With having a higher success rate it can alter an attitude to something of
  • 7. NHS Core Values This assignment will discuss the core values that underpin social and health service delivery and will compare the current health service provision with health care services at the inception of the NHS. The NHS has seven core values that aim to ensure that quality care is delivered to everyone regardless of their gender, religion, race, age, wealth or sexual orientation. These values have been developed by the general public, patients and staff, with local authorities having to develop and adapt these to provide personalised care. These values not only underpin the social and healthdelivery service, but also influence the legislation regarding care. For example the Care Act 2014 looks at integrating care, involving the patient and carer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The NHS remains free with the exception of some charges, such as prescriptions, optical and dental services. It covers everything from antenatal screening and routine treatments for long term conditions, to transplants, emergency treatment and end of life care. The National Health Service (NHS) was planned as a three tier structure. With the Minister of Health at the top and below were the three tiers designed to interact with each other to suit the needs of the patient. These tiers were voluntary and municipal hospitals supervised by Regional hospital boards, family doctors, dentists, opticians and pharmacists who were self employed professionals contracted to the NHS to provide services so that patients did not pay directly and local health authorities like community clinics that provided services such as immunisations, maternity care and school medical services controlled by a local authority Medical Health. The NHS in England is undergoing some big changes, most of which took effect on April 1 2013. This included the abolition of primary care trusts (PCTs) and strategic health authorities (SHAs), and the introduction of clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and Health watch England. From the 1950s onwards the scale and quality of the treatment provided by the National Health Service (NHS) improved, and between 1948

A month later, mortgage approvals dropped 31 percent, compared with the number in the previous year, and by November, real estate brokers began reporting the first declines in housing prices. In March, average prices fell 2.5 percent, the largest monthly decline since 1992, according to HBOS, a mortgage lender. In addition, the property market is being swamped by properties sold by cash strapped buyers. (Global Property Guide 2011) The boom in house prices was actually much bigger here than in the U.S., said Kelvin Davidson, an economist at Capital Economics in London. To have a more suitable expertise of the cerebral cortex scientist divided the brain into for lobes contingent to the purpose of what each lobe is responsible for. Each lobe of the cerebral cortexplays an essential role in humans every day life. If one of the lobes were absent being successful at the University of Oklahoma would be difficult if not unviable. The cerebral cortex has numerous functions, each being unique to how it affects the human body. Scientist categorized the cerebral cortex into four different lobes depending on their purpose to improve our understanding and assist our research of the cerebral cortex. The four lobes of the cerebral cortex are the Frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobes. The frontal lobe, located at the front of the brain close to our foreheads, is in charge of more intricate and complex work of the brain. The Weimar Republic was a situation that was not at all like the provisional government that was seen in Russia who could not withstand any riots in the July Days or even the October Revolution in 1917. However, the Weimar Republiccould withstand the putsches with the help of their military the freikorps. Finally, they were successful once again which allowed the people to have their democracy which was one of the most democratic in all of Europe. Where people had more civil liberties then the United States as women could vote before U.S. women could. Also, by putting down the rebellions constantly in the first few years and not crumbling to pieces like in Russia, it shows that the Weimar Republic wasn t going anywhere. Moreover, that the Republic could survive even in a state of crisis with the over looming threat of right wing terrorism and left wing rebellions. That the republic could stand on its feet and this only increased with the introduction of Stresemann and renewing the mark. So finally, Germany under the most democratic system in existence at the time could do perfectly well even through their times of difficulty because every new government has its bumps like with the provisional government where they couldn t get anything done pushing off a constitution constantly. Instead, the government in Germany succeeded in putting down the threats, and slowly gaining more power and actively pushing against the threats coming at them creating a perfectly workable system which all though isn t perfect is able to succeed in the long

Imagine what it would be like to live in a society where women were home schooled, and not allowed to attend any type of university. What would today s society be like if women lawyers, doctors, actors, and military soldiers were nonexistent? It would be a modern day version of the Elizabethan era in England. This was a time period where women had little rights, but the dramatic arts flourished due to Queen Elizabeth s appreciation for them. It was during this time period that literary genius William Shakespeare wrote his many plays including The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Fire Station 141 is buzzing with life; everything is in calm and peaceful; when suddenly a loud screaming sound rings through the brick walls. All of the men in the station startle to attention and rush around in organized chaos. The shuffling of boots on the smooth concrete floors and ruffling of thick fire suits is drowned out by the resounding alarm. The men pile into the large red trucks and screech out of the station. The alarm becomes silent and the station is abandoned and the only sound it the news humming in the background. The men hardly fit in the small quarters of the truck. The smell of burnt rubber and gasoline fill the cramped space. The sirens atop the thick metal roof of the truck bounce back and forth on houses and cars nearby. Dark clouds start to form above the speeding truck and soon the rain is playing a soft beat on the roof. The cold weather creates a pale fog against the window. Everything starts to slow down and become faded, the dark night outside the window now is everywhere and a group of boys are playing baseball. The ball is a dirty cream color and is throwing off water as it spins through the air, then smack it hits a leather glove with an explosion of water up into a young boy s smiling face. There is a newspaper on the ground that is soaked but the date says April 24th, 1986.

After reading further into his work, he illustrates a societal system that belittles animals and their significance to our own existence. Regan conceptualizes that animals won t have real rights unless we change our beliefs. We need to acknowledge a problem. After identifying the issue, we must recognize that there is a need for change in society. In addition, he also reiterates the importance of the populace changing the way they view animals. The way society views animals will create a snowball effect that will influence politicians to also believe in animal rights. The manner we regard animal rights is a matter of moralitynot mortality.

A Good Man Is Hard For Find By Flannery O Connor In the short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find, written by Flannery O Connor, the theme that the definition of a good man is mysterious and flawed is apparent. The reader must realize that it is difficult to universalize the definition of a good man because every person goes through different experiences. Thus, these experiences affect his or her viewpoint and in turn flaw ones view on a good man. O Connor conveys this theme through her excellent use of diction, imagery, foreshadowing, and symbolism as well as through a creative use of repetition and an omniscient point of view. The grandmother, the main character of the story, is manipulative. Her definition of a good man refers to the characteristics that a good man should possess. She believes that the true definition of a good man is a southern gentleman: respectful, chivalrous, and courageous when necessary. From the beginning, the reader is given the indication that the grandmother is determined to get what she wants and will do whatever she can to do so. And, from the second line of the story, O Connor suggests that anything the grandmother says might have an alternative motive. The grandmother didn t want to go to Florida. She wanted to visit some of her connections in east Tennessee and she was seizing at every chance to change Bailey s mind (1284). This is relevant to the theme in that a person may have alternate motives, even if they seem to be doing things selflessly from an outsider s perspective. When

As mentioned before, the Vietnam war occurred because of United States involvement in Vietnamese politics and attempts to end communism. The Tet Offensive, which was a terrible failure turned out to be a huge success, here is a quote from a credible source showing this: Failing to spark revolts, the Tet Offensive was a costly military failure. Without a public uprising, most attacks were little more than suicidal raids because of the small number of troops. The broad offensive also lacked plans for retreat, which led to further casualties. PAVN and NLF losses were estimated at 45,000, of an 84,000 member attack force; South Vietnamese losses were 2,300 while the United States suffered 1,100 combat fatalities. The main goal of the North Vietnamese Tet Offensive was to launch a series attacks on military and government sites in South Vietnam, and take control and apply communist rule. Although the Tet Offensive failed to take South Vietnam, it defeated the United States. This is because when the Tet Offensive was launched, North Vietnam was close to defeat, and the United States attempt to stop the spread of communism was almost successful. However, when this attack was launched, North Vietnamese soldiers pushed the South and the United States back and the war continued raging on until President Richard Nixon s order for United States withdrawal in 1973. In this sermon, he gives the reader the idea that Christianity and liberty can not live without each other. He also indicates that just like in religion, there is a good and a bad. In May of 1976, the Secretary of Defense renamed SAM D to Patriot Air Defense Missile System and tested joint engagement operations with HAWK in 1977. In May of 1982, the first Patriot unit started under 32d Army Air Defense Command. During a tactical exercise at White Sands Missile Range in September of 1986, the Patriot successfully deflected a LANCE missile, which was simulating the SS 21 tactical ballistic missile (TBM) threat. Even with the lack of technical data, damage analysis and eye witness reports in Israel began to paint a troubling picture of Patriot s ability to defeat tactical ballistic missiles. Successful Patriot engagements may have simply diverted or broken up the incoming missile. While the missile did not impact the planned target, debris from the engagement caused widespread damage on the ground. Some reports of Patriot interceptors chasing TBMs to the ground also surfaced. The missile used by Iraq, the SCUD B variant Al Husayn, had a tendency for breaking apart upon reentry into the atmosphere. When this happened after Patriot forces had fired interceptors, the missiles in flight were suddenly confronted by two or more targets instead of one, and there was not enough time to launch additional interceptors (Postol, 1991, p. 130). The most well known failure of Patriot during this war happened due to a timing error within the software produced by continuous operation of the system. The error continued to get worst, the longer the system was running. At this location, the system had been running continuously for 100 hours. This error caused the Patriot battery to fail to track an incoming TBM. The missile impacted an Army barracks in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 28 American Soldiers and wounding dozens. An Israeli Patriot unit had identified the timing error and a software modification was circulating the region. The
  • 37. Genesis Chapter 37-45 Analysis Did He trick me into a rosy belief in Him? I have been a Christian for over four decades, and I still Cannot fathom why He allows us to form our own pictures of Him. Is it so he can jump up from behind the table and say: Boo! Gottcha! In Genesis, chapters 37 45, we read the story of Joseph. It is eight chapters, but not such a long account when one considers it covers most of Joseph s life. Joseph was the eleventh of twelve sons born to the patriarch, Jacob, and the firstborn of his beloved wife, Rachel. Jacob spoiled Joseph. At least that is what is implied, for he gave him the gift of a colorful robe, a robe he did not give to his other children. Perhaps I am reading something into the story that is not there, but Joseph appeared to be a very good kid, a little cocky, maybe. He was Jacob s pride and joy and how he must have felt blessed by God to have such a son.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it reasonable to conclude that Joseph became disillusioned with God? There is no doubt in my mind that Jacob had shared with his children the promise God had given to his forefather, Abraham. And what about Jacob? In his youth he was wild, but he had settled down, grown up. Again, I am speaking without clear knowledge, but it is possible to conclude that both Joseph and Jacob became depressed and overwhelmed with life. But the Bible does not say how the players felt during the middle of this sordid tale. It just tells how Joseph felt at the end. You meant evil against me, Joseph eventually tells his brothers. But God meant it for good. Notice that Joseph did not say God brought good out of the horrible life experience he endured but God meant good. Not, mind you, God s intentions were good, or God said or did something that turned out wrong, even though He meant it for right. Or God made a birthday cake, but it tipped to one side and the icing melted but hey, his heart was right kind of

The activist reform would motivate management to achieve operating efficiencies, which would improve cash flows and generate better returns for both the shareholders and bondholders. In conclusion, I find the objections to the strategies of activists raised by the managers of Commonwealth REIT and other companies in the article vague. However, the managers need to distinguish between the activists looking for short term profits and the activists looking for a long term value creation. The former might destroy some value in the process so the managers need to fend off those attacks. It is management s fiduciary duty to maximize the stockholder value, and they should act accordingly. If the company has extra cash they should return it to the shareholders in form of either dividends or share repurchase. Behavioral Science And Community Health For Department of Behavioral Science and Community Health Around 6 years of age, I was outside playing with other children when I noticed a group of people building something in an area. Everyone gathered around to observe them and saw water coming out of a pump. There were a few stories about drinking unsafe water or eating contaminated foods which led to gastrointestinal diseases, but very little effort was made to prevent this. While in my undergraduate years studying to become a physician, I noticed how doctors were trained in interventional medicine, but not many practiced preventive medicine. I decided that I wanted to enact positive impact by assessing and analyzing data to understand public health problems, developing programs to address the issues and designing methods to measure the efficiency of health interventions in order to improve population health. By the end of my sophomore year, I started pursuing a degree in public health. At X University, I took two courses Community Health Promotion and Epidemiology that captured my interest in Behavioral Community Health Sciences. As I listened to experts speak intensively about effective communication with vulnerable population and ways to modify incidence, prevalence and mortality rates within the communities, I saw the possibilities of improving the quality of lives for many. My professors carried such genuine interest in educating us on various public health issues that by the end of the course, I was sure
  • 41. The Conflict Between Illusions And Reality In Katherine... An individual s self perception has the power to convince them that life is much more fulfilling through illusions then facing their own reality. When a person is unable to reconcile the conflict between their illusions and reality, their illusions may be altered to meet the truth of their existence. However, when reality reasserts itself, an individual may not be able to reconcile with the conception that their illusionis not an actual reality but just an imagination. An imagination could conceal the sufferings that an individual may be enduring. Sufferings can put a burden of emotions on an individual and make them feel like there s no place for them in the world. In the short story, Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield, the character of Miss Brill upholds an idea to live in a world of illusions. Her illusions allow her reality to disappear but her reality is nowhere near the imaginary world she is living in. Therefore, when a person is desperate for a better sense of reality rather than a lonely and tiresome one, they will try to produce their own illusion and obscure their reality, to live in their own illusion. Miss Brill alters her perception of reality to avoid facing unpleasant aspects of her life. Therefore, she lives her life in an illusion that she is an actress and the director of a play. Yes, have been an actress for a long time (4), from this passage an individual could evidently suggest that Miss Brill sees herself as an actress. However, in reality, she s not
  • 42. Attrition From Higher Education Institution 1. INTRODUCTION Attrition from Higher Education Institution (HEI) programmes is worryingly on the increase (Russell Group 2010). However, students that drop out of pre registration nursing programmes are of particular concern, not only to the HEI but the Government and the NHS also due to the requirement to meet the needs of the NHS recruitment and demands of an increasingly ageing society that relies on qualified nurses (DOH 2007). Indeed the type of funding that student nurses receive and the amount of money that is invested by Strategic Health Authorities (SHA) and Government in them suggests that attrition is a costly problem (DOH 2009). It is difficult to gather specific statistical data regarding attrition rates as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A more recent report produced by the Department of Health states that the attrition rate from pre registration nursing programmes stands at 16% (DOH 2010). This statistic differs greatly from the national average of 27% reported direct to the RCN by the HEIs. The United Kingdom figures do generally appear favourable however compared to countries such as Italy (65%) and the USA (37%) (International Audit office, 2007). Statistics produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (2011) highlight that the percentage drop out rate for students on all types of Degree level programmes is relatively low at approximately 10% whereas for those studying the Diploma level programme the drop out rate increases to 17%. Therefore the statistics identified for attrition from pre registration nursing programmes are higher that the average attrition rate of all other Degree and Diploma programmes. A higher completion rate among pre registration nurses will enhance the NHS workforce of qualified nurses and will help towards the Department of Health Our Health, Our Care, Our Say (DOH 2006a) goal to ensure individual excellence of care for all. Higher retention of students would also aide the HEIs involved in the education of pre registration nursing as SHA and Government targets will be met and financial penalties

Directed by David Lean, The Bridge on the River Kwai follows a battalion of British soldiers who find themselves trapped in a Japanese POW camp during WWII in 1943. The British soldieries are led by Colonel Nicholson (Alec Guinness) who is ordered by the commandant of the POW camp, Colonel Saito (Sessue Hayakawa), to build a railroad bridge over the Burmese river Kwai. Colonel Nicholson refuses to help build the bridge based on the fact that the Geneva Convention strictly forbids using officers as laborers. I agree with the majority of critics that the film is very good even compared to more modern war films such as Lone Survivor. Like Lone Survivor the genius of The Bridge on the River Kwai is that it focuses on the individual soldiers and their struggles not on the war itself. This allows you to empathize with the characters; even the Japanese soldiers who run the camp. Nicholson and Saito encompass the values that a solider and a man should have specifically duty, honor, purpose, and loyalty. Saito has a duty to complete the bridge while Nicholson has a duty to ensure the survival of his men. Honor is best displayed by Saito who is prepared to kill himself if the bridge isn t completed on time as missing his deadline would dishonor him. According to the code of Bushido, which Saito and the Japanese subscribe to, the righteous thing to do when you dishonor yourself is to kill yourself. Purpose is shown by Nicholson when he states to Saito There are times when suddenly you realize you re nearer the end than the beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life represents. For Nicholson the one physical thing that gives his life meaning, that represents him, is the bridge. By completing the bridge he proves to himself and everyone else that his life had purpose; that he accomplished something meaningful. The final value displayed is loyalty.

In this assignment, I will closely analyse the speech made by Earl Spencer for the funeral of Lady Diana, considering the complicated context and literary devises he uses to affect his audience. The speech was written as a funeral speech for Diana s close family and friends, but also, more importantly, for the public, as it was broadcasted worldwide. In the speech, although it s primary purpose is to pay respects to his sister; he uses the opportunity to promote Diana s charity work, and to raise controversy within the royal family. He also uses metaphors, like sparkle which makes people think of light, a symbol of life and vitality. He always refers to his sister as Diana, never as princess or Lady, which would be to formal, making it sound less emotional; but also never as Di , which would be to informal and personal for a funeral speech aimed at so many. Earl Spencer creates many contradicting images, which balance each other out. He often mentions religious references, God granted you but half a life , God given , rush to canonise . This creates an angelic picture in the minds of the audience, which would seem exaggerated, but he also describes Diana as a human. Insecure person . This balance between contradictory images, and suitably formal writing style helps to make the speech so powerful. He uses pronouns like we , and our which unite the audience, making them feel like the whole nation is grieving with them. The pronouns shift, as he speaks to Diana herself, you brightened our lives , then again, towards then end of the speech, to I . This makes it seem like he is releasing his own personal emotions, showing the side of Diana he knew. These changes in pronouns not only change

  • 49. Love For Common Good In The Funeral Oration By Pericles The funeral oration by Pericles is filled with instances in which he exhibits love for common good that surpasses individual benefit. According to Pericles, the Athenians illuminate qualities of people who are good and contribute to the benefit of their city because it is in fact great. In this case, it is possible for the reader to infer that common good can only be attained if the society in which individuals live is permissive of the same. Indeed, it is human nature to tend to feel the individual needand promote its good as opposed to what is good for the society in general. However, Periclesattempts to resolve this predicament of individual and common good by showcasing that people are capable for having such a collective form of thinking if they reside in a society that is permissive of the same. The inference can be gathered from the manner in which the orator describes Athens with so much awe. In his opinion, the cityis to be admired because it is economically, socially, and politically great. In essence, one can note that Thucydides goes beyond a mere description of the city, and goes overboard in the emphasis of how great it is.
