Navajo Code Talkers
Navajo Code Talkers
National security of every country highly depends on secrecy maintainance, especially during
wartime. Secrecy is an important element of victory. However, it is important not only to code
messages but also to break enemy codes in order to gain military advantages. During the Second
World War it was very important for the United States to send and receive codes without any risk of
being deciphered. For this reason the language of American indigenous population of the Navajo was
chosen by the U.S. Marine Corps. This paper focuses on contributions made by the Navajo Code
Talkers during the Second World War. The military enemies of the United States did not manage to
break the code. One of the reasons why the Navajo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they were sworn to secrecy and did not share the information even with their families.
Indians were admitted to the construction of the code only after the training. The initial problem was
that the Navajo language did not contain equivalents for English military terms and phrases. That is
why it was a difficult task to transfer military terminology into the Navajo language. However, it was
recognized that the code should have been both unbreakable and simple, because under combat
conditions rapid transmission and translation of messages was of high importance.Long phrases might
appear ineffective and inefficient. The Navajos decided to choose words that had direct association
with nature, birds, and common Navajo life in order to avoid perplexity (Townsend 2000, 146).
Generally, there were two methods of communication. According to Townsend (2000, 147), the first
method concerned a words for alphabet system. This method was used to code some terms that could
not easily be replaced with a specific word. It was ineffective to affix an Indian word to any random
Pacific island. According to the alphabet method, each letter of the English alphabet was replaced by
with an Indian word. For example, Tarawa Island was coded as turkey ant rabbit ant weasel ant . In
Navajo, this would be pronounced as Than zie, wol la chee, gah, wol lo chee, gloe ih, wol la chee .
Some English letters were represented by diverse terms in order to increase the

The Cultural Icon Of The 20th Century Essay
Amber Gentile 12 December 2016 Period 2 Albert Einstein The Cultural Icon from the 20th Century
Albert Einstein once said I want to know God s thoughts, the rest are details . Einstein wanted an
equation that would encapsulate all physical laws. To put the beauty and the power of the universe into
a single equation was his life s goal. Although Einstein s name is now synonymous with genius, his
professors would have never predicted him to be this successful as he would always cut class, and he
could not get a single job after graduating. Einstein thought he was such loser that he wrote a letter to
his family saying perhaps it would be better if he was never born. His father had to apply on behalf of
Einstein for academic positions, but they all said there were no positions available. His father passed
away thinking that Einstein was a total disgrace to the family. In 1902 Einstein moved to Switzerland,
and began a career far from science. One of his friends got him a job to be a patent clerk in the Swiss
patent office. He spent six days a week reviewing applications submitted by inventors to the Swiss
government. He had to analyze the patents and strip them to their essence, which honed his skills as a
physicist. Since it was not intellectually demanding it would give him ample time to contemplate the
universe. Einstein s daydreams would change the way the universe was understood. In 1905 in what
has been called his miracle year, he publishes in his spare time four

Thomas Gage And His Impact On The Revolutionary War Essay
Thomas Gage and His Impact on the Revolutionary War
Matt Thompson
Mountain View High School Back in 1774 Thomas Gage had a job that no one would envy. He would
be tasked with stemming the tide of a rebellion in the colonies of North America. Many considered
him the protagonist of the English cause in the Revolutionary war. Tensions were rising and Gage had
just been appointed Military Governor of Massachusetts. With this title, he would effectively be the
most powerful British official in the 13 Colonies. Gage had control over military, political, and
diplomatic decisions (Britannica, 2015). When relations turned sour between the American colonies
and their mother country, people looked to Gage to make it right. Gage was unable to take the
necessary actions to prevent the war and ended up being a driving factor in the American Revolution.
In the beginning of Gage s time serving in the military and the start of his tenure as Military Governor
he was fairly well liked. Gage had fought in the French and Indian War after fighting a handful of
battles in Europe. He joined the military in 1741 and came to America in 1754 (Walsh, 2013). As he
served his country he began to move his way up the ranks of the British Army. It was in 1763 that he
reached the precipice of his military career, becoming Commander in Chief of all British forces in
North America. Just a few years after being appointed Governor of Montreal, he was now the most
important and influential man

Essay On My Knee Injury
Around the world, kids begin playing sports at extremely young ages; it s hardwired into them to play
sports while being fearless. I ve always been one of those kids who would rather be outdoors playing
sports than inside laying on the couch, watching television. Growing up, I entered unfamiliar
situations fearlessly without a second thought; however, this all changed when I destroyed a crucial
portion of my knee in seventh grade. Commencing in the fifth grade, I have been hooked on
basketball; it is the part of my life which lets me relieve all of my stress. Unfortunately, after two knee
surgeries, I struggled with the concept of playing basketball again. Worry made me sick to my
stomach before every practice and game last year because I

The Rise Of Zionism And Arab Nationalism
The rise of Zionism and Arab Nationalism in the nineteenth century triggered major political tensions
in the region of Palestine. The conflict among the Zionists and Arab Nationalists is primarily due to
the politics of territory and is essentially not comprised of religious opposition. In fact, before the
advent of Zionism and Arab Nationalism, Jews and Palestinians shared a local identity due to mutual
tolerances. This identity, which took precedence over religion, created a vivacious community with its
own unique set of traditions and customs shared among the Jews, Muslims and Christians. However,
following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Zionists whom were seeking a safe haven from
Jewish prejudices in mainly Eastern Europe, proclaimed their return to Palestine. Zionists sought the
territory of Palestine as the official land of the Jews because of their ancient homeland ties.
Furthermore, as Zionism progressed, Arabs Nationalists were threatened by the ideology and the vast
Jewish immigration to Palestine. In the Arab point of view, Zionism emerged as a European
movement, which appeared to be another attempt by Western imperialism to subordinate Muslims to
Europeans. Although Arab Nationalism and Zionism were similar in nature, these two identities were
destined to clash primarily due to their irreconcilable nationalistic aspirations and cultural
characteristics.
The birth of Zionism began in Eastern Europe; the Zionist movement became known as a nationalistic

Profile Based Personalized Web Search
We suggest a Profile based personalized web search framework UPS (User customizable Privacy
preserving Search), for each query ac cording to user specified privacy requirements profile is
generated. For hierarchical user pro file we trust two conflicting metrics, namely personalization
utility and privacy risk, with its NP hardness proved we formulate the problem of Profile based
personalized search as Risk Profile Generalization.
With the help of two greedy algorithms, namely GreedyIL and GreedyDP, we generate the expected
search result, greedy algorithms support runtime profiling. While the former tries to maximize the
discriminating power (DP), the latter attempts to minimize the in formation loss (IL). By exploiting a
number of heuristics, GreedyIL outperforms GreedyDP significantly.
For the client to decide whether to personalize a query in UPS we provide an inexpensive mechanism.
Before each runtime profiling this decision can be made to improve the stability of the search results
while avoid the needless exposure of the profile.
3.1 System Architecture :
Indeed, the privacy concern is one of the main barriers is how to attain personalized search though
preserving users privacy and deploying serious personalized search applica tions. Hence we propose a
client side profile based personalization which deals with the preserving privacy and envision possible
fu ture strategies to fully protect user privacy. For

What Are The Three Philosophies Of Legalism
Philosophies are logical studies of basic truths about values, knowledge, and ultimately, the world.
China had three primary philosophies which were considered as religions: Legalism Confucianism,
and Daoism. These 3 main philosophies shaped China s government and history. Legalism is the belief
that a powerful yet efficient government accompanied by a strict legal system is the key to order in
society. One thing Legalists fear is disorder in society; that is why they believe order is important.
This philosophy arose during the time of the Warring States, when kingdoms fought for control it was
created in hope that, if China adopted a strong government which enforced strict laws, just like in
Legalism, China s order would be restored, and its problems would be solved. Yet ... Show more

He was similar to Legalists, in that he wanted to restore order. Nevertheless, his ideas differed on
conflict resolution and peace in relationships. He believed that respect for and of others was essential
for peace and order, and that government leaders should exhibit virtue. Confucius also emphasized
education, believing it was of extreme importance for others to be educated. The Analects is a book
created by Confucius disciples containing all of Confucius teachings; combined they form the set of
beliefs known as Confucianism. There were 5 basic relationships: father and son; elder brother and
younger brother; husband and wife; friend and friend; and ruler and subject. All of the relationships

The Pleistocene epoch was a time period of almost 2...
The Pleistocene epoch was a time period of almost 2 million years of repeating glaciation around the
globe. This epoch was known for its megafauna that roamed the Earth during the last great ice age.
Although this was a time of mass extinction for species that could not adapt to the climate changes,
many mammals and vertebrates that can be identified today were found during this time
(Zimmermann, 2013). The Pleistocene epoch is an important foundation for understanding life that
exists today, including carnivores, herbivores as well as the evolution of humans.
Fossil preservation has always been the most accurate way to determine what species lived during a
specific time period. Through correlations and radiometric dating, time periods ... Show more content

It is estimated that mammoths had the largest biome on the plant at an estimated 1 square kilometer
per mammoth (Zimov, 2014). Herbivores of the time ranged from under 45 kilograms to well over
1000 kg, making for a wide range of diversity within the speciation (graph below). While many of
these mammals were preyed upon by the carnivores, some were simply too large to be killed by single
predators, causing them to be relatively immune to predation (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado,
2006). (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado, 2006)
The herbivores of course needed grasses and trees to feed on though, which became difficult as
glaciation occurred cyclically causing for many to die from lack of
livable environments. As the herbivore mammals died off, so did the predators that relied on them as a
food source. While many of the herbivores became extinct during this time, others survived in certain
places better than others. Native horses of North America for example existed before the end of the
Pleistocene but disappear from the fossil record in that area. Horses as well as many other mammals in
a similar situation still exist around the globe but were wiped out from their original habitats.
In addition to carnivore and herbivore mammals, there were also many different species of birds and
reptiles that existed. A common misconception is that dinosaurs lived during this time, but they had
gone extinct some 60 million years before the Pleistocene began. Some species of

Analysis Of Dave Barry s Guys Vs. Men
Within his piece, Guys Vs. Men, Dave Barry articulates the different perspectives available on
viewing males. Throughout his piece he utilizes a satirical tone to showcase this idea. The audience
that Dave Barry is attempting to convey his message to is the general public. I believe this to be an
appropriate assessment as the level of language employed by Dave Barry, throughout his piece, lacks
complexity. His use of satire also helps to identify the audience. This is because the use of humour can
be seen as a way to capture the attention of a reader quickly in hopes that the reader continues, and
ultimately finishes the article. Using these as evidence I can conclude the audience being targeted is
the general public. Dave Barry s thesis, which can be located in paragraph one, stating that there s
another way to look at males: not as aggressive macho dominators; not as sensitive, liberated, hugging
drummers; but as guys. Within his thesis, Dave Barry expresses how the stereotypes that define a male
are not the only points of view of a male. He conveys that there are other perspectives available on
how males can be viewed, and one of them is simply to view males as guys. In his body paragraphs,
Dave Barry proceeds to explain the various characteristics that make up, and are exhibited by, guys.
The Characteristics he mainly emphasises are how Guys Like Neat Stuff , how Guys Like a Really
Pointless Challenge , and finally how Guys Do Not Have a Ridged and Well Defined

Samurai Influence On Japanese Culture
A samurai is a warriors of Japan. Samurai employed a range of weapons such as bows and arrows,
spears and guns, but their main weapon and symbol was the sword. Samurai first appeared in Japan as
early as the eighth century c.e., but they truly rose to power in the eleventh century. They alone had
the privilege of wearing two swords, they married only among their own class, and they passed their
privileges on to their children. Samurai were dressed for speed and travel.
The Bushido held restrictions on the Samurai, prohibiting them to do many things and to live a very

Kindergarten And Elementary School Teacher
Kindergarten and Elementary School Teacher
Imagine going to work every week day to be greeted by a group of young, wonderful children. As a
kindergarten and elementary school teacher, I would get to do that. Kindergarten and elementary
school teachers educate young children for their bright future. Kindergarten and elementary school
teachers are in the career cluster of education and training. Careers in education and training help
people in certain areas by teaching or instructing them. In this career, I would get to work with
children everyday, and prepare lessons and activities to help my students understand certain concepts
better. I love kids, so working with them would bring joy to my job. Also, I could easily provide for
myself with a teaching salary. When deciding whether kindergarten and elementary school teacher is
the best job for me, I looked at work environment, education and training, important qualities, and
salary and job outlook.
Work Environment The nature of work for kindergarten and elementary school teachers is important
to being successful. For example, kindergarten and elementary school teachers will work in private or
public schools. Kindergarten and elementary school teachers will transport themselves to school, and
work in their own classroom with a group of students. I would like this, because I could decorate my
classroom to connect to what I am teaching my students. Also, kindergarten and elementary school
teachers need to have a nice,

Peter Paul Rubens Dichotomy
Peter Paul Rubens is known as one of the great artists of the Baroque period. Notorious for his
paintings of religious scenes, mythology, and portraits, his style is easily recognizable through his
portrayal of large, pale, nude women (Johnson 144, 145). In his painting, Diana and Her Nymphs
Departing for the Hunt, Rubens positions Diana, a goddess in Roman mythology, at the forefront of
the piece partially topless, reflecting her fertility and sexuality; meanwhile in the background a
confrontation between a nymph and satyr display the conflict between nakedness and nudity, male and
female, and obscene and control. Diana is the Roman goddess of the moon, the hunt, childbearing, and
chastity. According to the Cleveland Museum of Art, different ... Show more content on

In the article, Erotic Ambiguities: The Female Nude in Art, Helen McDonald, graduate of fine arts at
University of Melbourne, argues that the difference between nude and naked can be simplified to the
difference between privilege form over matter, male over female, and art over obscenity (McDonald
61). In order for the naked body to survive as art, Rubens must discipline and regulate the body
(McDonald 61). In the painting, Diana and her nymphs are nude as opposed to naked because they are
bounded by clothes and their body movements seem controlled. However, the satyr is naked instead of
nude because his motions appear erratic and forceful, not within bounds, and the nymph is trying to
control him. Diana, the goddess of the hunt, epitomizes control in the photo not just through her body
language but because she has the power to tame wild animals, which is illustrated with her interaction
with the dogs in the painting. Additionally, Nicole Sault in The Savage Body claims that a savage can
be distinguished through his nakedness and that savages are typically portrayed as males until they
have been controlled, in which they are depicted as female (Sault 4). The male satyr is a clear
representation of a savage through his bare, partially animalistic body, while Diana is noticeably calm
and composed. The

Why Do You Think Downward Communication Is much more...
Organizational communication is a sustainable system of people working together to achieve a
common goal, through division levels of stratification according to rank and duty (Everet M. Rogers).
Communication is the means whereby organizations coordinate management of material resources and
human resources through formal structural pattern of the duties and authority (Robert
Bonnington).Communication organizations are sending and receiving various messages in the cluster
formal organization or informally from an organization (Wiryanto, 2005). In organization, the

organization, the top level executives develop the plans, policies, strategies, procedures etc. downward

Similarities Between The Wars Of European Religion
The Wars of Religion were a series of conflicts in Europe due to the spread of Protestantism. These
conflicts were due in particular, to the intense resentment of Protestantism as a religion and a fear of
providing freedom of religion. These conflicts were very violent and were cause for a lot of change
religiously in Europe. Although the Wars were very different throughout the various countries in
Europe, there were also many similarities and I will explore these in this essay. The primary similarity
between the Wars of Religion in Europe was the presence of a final compromise to end the conflict.
However the main theme was that one group was always excluded from the compromise. For

Ptsd Is An Abbreviation For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...
Every year there are well over 7 million cases of PTSD that are announced (Kledzik). A small
percentage of the people on Earth at some point in their life span will have some form of PTSD. A
solution that will be able to help these people is commonly referred to as man s best friend. For many
years PTSD dogs have been useful to relieve the severe symptoms of this disorder. They have proven
themselves to be more than just an animal. Post traumatic stress disorder dogs are far beyond just man
s best friend; they protect the protectors far after the wars end. First of all, what exactly is PTSD?
PTSD is an abbreviation for post traumatic stress disorder. One website says that the people that have
this disorder developed it from being in a situation that was threatening or terrifying ( Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder ). This disorder does not only happen with veterans; PTSD can develop in anyone who
has been assaulted, involved in any kind of accident, abuse, tragic loss of a close person, or hurricane
victims. There are many symptoms that can be seen in people who have this disorder; however, the
symptoms can be different between adults and children. In a different article by the Nebraska
Department of Veterans Affairs they mentioned:
Although PTSD symptoms can begin right after a traumatic event, PTSD is not diagnosed unless the
symptoms last for at least one month, and either cause significant distress or interfere with work or

Gottfried Leibniz Is A Strong Proponent Of The Idea That
Gottfried Leibniz is a strong proponent of the idea that everything exists for a reason and that God is
the ultimate reason that leads to the creation of our world, the best of all possible worlds. Using the
principle of sufficient reason, Leibniz helps us understand the existence of substance and how each
substance is synthesized for some particular purpose. He then claims that inevitably the PSR can be
indefinitely applied, and eventually leads us back to the existence of God as the main source. Leibniz
asserts that under the circumstances provided by the nature of God, the world that is created is the best
possible world, as anything else would violate the implications of the PSR. Although Leibniz s
proposal of the PSR and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, Leibniz argues, if we work back far enough along the chain, we reach a point where we
can no longer comprehend a reason for something to happen. This is solved by introducing God as the
ultimate reason behind anything. Leibniz does not necessarily argue that God is an omnipotent or
omnipresent being, but more so uses the concept of God to encompass the motivation for all that is
unexplainable. He suggests that whatever reasons we cannot comprehend must be reasons beyond our
capability to understand and only fall to God as their creator. God becomes the rational explanation
that is necessary to end the chain of inquiry created by the PSR. There is more to God than just being
the ultimate reason for things. Leibniz argues that God is motivated to pick the most rational and
perfect world there is. An irrational world would not exist, according to the PSR, as it would not serve
its purpose as holistically as a rational world could. Unlike Descartes, who was a proponent of the idea
that whatever God does is good, Leibniz thinks that rationality precedes God and that God s reason for
a particular action is that it objectively is the most rational. Thus God s actions are good in the sense
that they are the most ideal. God s rationality allows for a universe with minimal laws but the largest
amount of phenomena. God does whatever is most rational and creates substances that will serve their
purpose the

The Effects Of Music Therapy On Improving The Qol
According to Alzheimer s Disease International (2012), there are 36 million people living with
dementia worldwide in 2010 and will increase to 66 million by 2030 (p. 7). There is no treatment and
prevention currently available and many elderly people are diagnosed with the dementia. Dementia
gradually destroys the cells in the brain responsible for memory, thinking, judgment, and behavior.
The day to day activities and simple tasks can be confusing and frustrating for the dementia patient,
reducing their quality of life (QoL). Maintaining and improving the QoL plays a vital role in
improving the survival rate. I will be working with the dementia clients so, it is important to
understand how to measure and improve the QoL in order to provide better services according to the
patient s needs. In this paper, I will address the standard instrument used in measuring the QoL, and
the effectiveness of music therapy in enhancing and improving the QoL. According to Barofsky

on a specific set of individual characteristics (as cited in Graske, Fischer, Kuhlmey, Wolf Ostermann,
2012, p. 1). Whitehouse colleagues (1997), stated that cognitive function; activities of daily living,
social interactions and psychological well being are the important components that maintain QoL (as

Introduction
The Old Testament was written over a wide historical period, it describes the relationship of God and
the people of Israel before the coming of Jesus. To make it easy to explain the history in the Old
Testament, I have seen it best to look at it under the following periods: 1. Primeval History

The southern kingdom of Judah, essentially the tribes of Judah and Benjamin that remained loyal to
Rehoboam, maintained its capital in Jerusalem and enjoyed three and a half centuries of Davidic kings
upon the throne. 8. Fall of Israel (Samaria) (722 BC)
The text of 2 Kings 17 tells of the reason why Israel fell as the Lord removed them from His sight (2
Kings 17:18). First, they fell because they imitated the evil of those around them (vss. 7 8). Second,
they fell because they practiced idolatry (vss. 9 12). Third, they fell because they rebelled against God
(vss. 13 16). Forth, they fell because they sacrificed their children (vss. 17 18). Samaria fell to the
Syrians during the reign of King Hoshea.
9. Fall of Judah (Jerusalem) (578BC)
Despite the strong remonstrance of Jeremiah and others, Zedekiah revolted against Nebuchadnezzar,
ceasing to pay tribute to him and entered into an alliance with Pharaoh Hophra of Egypt. In 589 BCE,
Nebuchadnezzar II returned to Judah and again besieged Jerusalem. During this period, many Jews
fled to surrounding Moab, Ammon, Edom and other countries to seek refuge. The city fell after an
eighteen month siege and Nebuchadnezzar again pillaged both Jerusalem and the Temple, after which

My Local Organic Farming Community
For the past few years I ve slowly started getting involved with my local organic farming community
to learn pressing issues young farmers face. I almost immediately notice that Sonoma County, which
is quite a large, has extremely knowledgeable leaders on the topic of food politics. Furthermore, I
found these people are generous and living an organic local lifestyle. Aside from the given importance
of eating local and healthy, there are two major factors which make it critical for me to learn and eat
organic foods.
I have special needs nephew named Lucas you must eat organically. In fact, all his food is measured
and blended to get the proper nutrients and enough calories for the day. He is quite sensitive to food,
and chemicals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after getting involved with local Farmers Guild, which now has 11 chapters, I realized the dire
importance to spread the word and message about the future of young farmers. The typical American
farmer is over 57, white and male; he often has no succession plan. One of my clients, Larry Peter the
Owner of Petaluma Creamery worked in agriculture as a young man picking prunes and raspberries.
He washed milk bottles; bottle fed calves, and drove a forklift for ten years while he learned the
business. He saved his money, bought run down houses, fixed them up, and rented them out. In doing
research, I found farmers and ranchers earned a median annual income of nearly $61,000 in 2010,
according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. (1) Seven of the 10 best paying U.S. cities for
farmers were in California, ranking at $80,0000 $87,000 annually. According to a recent report
commissioned by the USDA, there will be 20,000 fewer university graduates in the fields of
agriculture and the environment than will be needed in just the next five years. In order to feed 9
billion people by 2050, we will need a diverse population of agriculture researchers who can think
outside the hectare and leverage the experience of nontraditional learners including veterans, refugees
from rural backgrounds, migrant farmworkers and female farm owners. (5)

Essay on Why Gladstone Failed to Pacify Ireland
Why Gladstone Failed to Pacify Ireland
Gladstone s adoption of interest in Irish affairs in 1867 puzzled many of his contemporaries and has
continued to puzzle historians. Up until 1867 Gladstone had shown very little sympathy towards the
Irish, all his life he had held them in contempt, visiting only once. His mission to pacify Ireland was
surprising and his motives suspect. Many historians believe that Ireland was a cause through which
Gladstone was to unify his divided party. Others have said that it was in reaction to the agrarian
violence raging through Ireland, it was clear that something had to be done. Gladstone declared that it
was his high hope and ardent desire that Ireland would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was hoped that this would reduce social unrest provoked by religious discrimination. Gladstone s
plans were courageous; he had no precedent to go by and the task presented immense difficulties. The
Act dissolved the Irish Church s power, it meant that it could no longer expect tithes from Catholics
and C of I dissenters although this did not mean that the Irish were any better off; the tithes still had to
be paid but were now paid to the state rather than the Irish Church. Despite the fact that the Act solved
once and for all the major religious grievance of the Irish Roman Catholics [1]in practice it made very
little difference the lives of most Irishmen. It did not by any means solve religious differences,
Protestants still owned much of the land, and they still dominated the resented landlord class. The
consequences of the act were more symbolic than practical, it did very little to pacify Ireland.
Most agreed that the key to Ireland s problems lay in the land question. This question of questions for
Ireland (John Devoy) proved much more difficult than church reform due to the complexities of the
Irish Land System and the wider range of interests involved. Lord Kimberley wrote no measures of
any kind can satisfy the Irish: the utmost they can do is to lay the basis for a gradual improvement .
Kimberley s prognostication was very close to the truth. Neither Act actually

“the Dollar Store’s Food and Cigarettes Strategy Is Working”
The article is about the variety retail store chain Family Dollar s approach to increasing sales and
competing against not only other variety store retailers but against, convenience stores and mega
retailers as well. Last Year, Family Dollar decided it sold enough cheap detergent and school supplies
what it needed was food and cigarettes. Its research found that many of its customers smoke, and
smokers tend to make frequent trips to buy cigarettes maybe they d pick up some groceries and
whatnot while they were there. Food is also something people buy frequently, so the combination
hopefully would boost traffic. (BusinessWeek.com/Articles/2013 10 10/the dollar stores) The discount

There research has shown that the chain s typical tobacco sale is $13, and about 60% of shoppers who
buy tobacco spend an additional $4 worth of goods, that s a boon says COO Michael Bloom for a
store where many items are $1 or less, and most items are less than $10.
(BusinessWeek.com/Articles/2013 10 10/the dollar stores)
Last Wednesday the company reported that there consumables category, which includes food and
tobacco increased 16.9% to 7.5 Billion in the 12 months ended in August. Had they been wrong, who
knows how adversely this strategy could have been to the company. Appealing to smokers and using
there needs to smoke and buy other consumables is a risky approach considering how many people
feel about the adverse effects of tobacco.
When I saw the strategy and approach I was intrigued. I have never been a smoker and I have never
shopped at any dollar store including Family Dollar. I always looked at them as a novelty supplier, I
never knew they carried these types of products or the type of assortment listed in the article. By really
focusing on their customers, and there needs to purchase certain consumables, and to purchase them
often, I can see how Family Dollar can be extremely successful. By competing at the price level for
products they can put dents in revenues streams for mega retailers Wal mart and Kmart. By offering
these lines of products and be

How To Go Sled
Once we got our snow gear on and closed the door to the porch, Emmi noticed a bird lying in the
snow. She examined it in her gloves and noticed it was struggling. We carried it to the playhouse
where it was warm and sat in the chairs, warming it up until we rested it on the rail, so it could fly
away when it was able. She saved it. Now we were off to go sled.
Every year, until now, we had a contest to see who could make it the farthest down the hill. Since we
wanted to win, all we would do is sled. We tried several strategies, like toboggans, circle sleds,
rectangle sleds, more people, less people. We tried literally everything. Then, we made a decision I
wish we never made. We decided to tie two sleds together.
Are we ready to go? Julian asked.
No, we are heading for that stump! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went inside with Julian and Ryan, took off my snow gear and laid down in the bed. I cried. I cried for
hours. I saw the clock go from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. to 5 P.M..
During those four hours, my aunt and uncle came to check her out, my grandpa called 9 1 1, the fire
trucks came instead of the ambulance and finally the ambulance came. Hearing parts of the
conversations while you don t know if your cousin will survive is the worst way to pass time.
Once they got Emmi in the ambulance, I walked out and saw Eric, Ryan and Julian sharing their
thoughts on the accident. I made her a Get Well Soon card and we all decided we would go visit her
once she was okay. We thought she would be okay.
My mom came home from the hospital and told Eric to bring Julian there. I was jealous I didn t get to
see her. After they left, my mom sat Ryan and I down on the couch. The horrible news was about to be
delivered.
God does his best to make everyone happy. But, Emmi didn t make it. Right there, right there I burst
into tears. Ryan went to cry in the bathroom while I struggled to keep myself

Analysis Of The Movie Bill Cosby
Ruining a reputation is as easy as ruining a life. Just keep secrets. It may be a forbidden relationship or
one from the past that comes to haunt later. The latter is true for Bill Cosby. After Hannibal Burress
called Cosby a rapist in a comedy act in October 2014, several women s stories came to national
attention. Barbara Bowman wrote an essay, about her experience with Bill Cosby for Washington Post
online on November 13th, 2014. She explains how the relationship started off harmlessly. He had a
TV show and she was a 17 year old aspiring model so he gave her tips and they bonded over the
industry. The first time he assaulted her was at his home in New York City, where he had invited her to
dinner. I blacked out after having dinner and one glass of wine [...]. When I came to [...] Cosby was
looming over me. I m certain now that he drugged and raped me the essay written by Bowmen
reveals. She wasn t sure, as a teenager, if it was her imagination. He was famous for his family man
persona and she was just a young model. She was afraid if she said something she would be criticized
for trying to deface Cosby s image, being accused that she was just lying to get attention and publicity.
Her story had been published a handful of times before Burress s accusation but only now is it taking
actual hold in the media. His comment along with accusations from several women created a public
outcry. Barbara Bowman is not alone with her experience, a handful of other women, actresses and

Alka Seltzer Experiment
On Thursday August 27, 2015 my group comprised of Elizabeth Cruz, Samantha St. Martin and I
initiated experiment. This was constructed of three Alka Seltzer tablets and three beakers containing
different liquids: water, salt water, and vinegar. The drive behind our experiment was to see what
factors would make the Alka Seltzer tablets dissolve faster. My group s hypothesis was that the strong
chemical compounds in vinegar will cause the Alka Seltzer to dissolve faster and therefore take the
shortest amount of time compared to the other mixtures. Once my group gathered the equipment
needed for our project, our variables were easy to form. Our control variable was how many Alka
Seltzer tablets were used per beaker. The independent variables

Premarital Counseling Among Christian Couples and the Effects on Divorce Rates
William Q. McCardle
Liberty University Abstract
Premarital counseling is an option that is often prompted by clergy as a positive experience to explore
the familiarities, differences, and expectations that couples hold prior to the marriage commitment.
The goal of premarital counseling is to promote discussion of difficult questions that may arise after
the nuptial vows. Examining the effects of premarital counseling among Christian couples will permit
the exploration of how it alters divorce rates. The effectiveness of premarital counseling will be
analyzed and deliberated using statistics, data, interviews, surveys, and library research. Targeted ...

Many young couples who are entering into marriage are caught up in the whirlwind of engagement
parties, wedding plans, planning a new home, and meeting new family members; often, they cease to
look beyond the present and think about the issues that may arise in the relationship during the future
(Altenhofen, 2008).
In some instances, couples are ill prepared for marriage because they do not have a relationship that
has considered and worked through any type of conflict resolution (Phegley, 2003). Clergy who are
entrusted to conduct the marriage ceremonies have a duty to assist couples in discussing and facing
the difficulties that will arise as a marriage develops (McGeorge Carlson, 2006). Lack of
communication can lead to many complications that often lead to individuals going their separate
ways in a marriage (Clinton Sibcy, 2006). Through statistical information, research, interviews, and
biblical accounts, one can determine whether premarital counseling among Christian couples has an
effect on the divorce rate. The institution of marriage is blessed and instructed by God. Hebrews 13:4
of the King James Version of the Bible, instructs that, Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed
undefiled. (Hebrews 13:4, King James Version). Whenever Christ began his ministry on Earth, he
chose members of a wedding feast to be the recipients of the

In addition, the management team has proved that it has capability to turnaround the bankrupted
company into the company that has positive net income in less than one year!
2.2 Weakness
The financial statements contain some inappropriateness of projected figures. In 2004, the notes
payable show a negative balance what is a very rare projection. In addition, the very low gross margin
and net income is inconsistent with its mission. Elan wants to be hyper efficient in its manufacturing,
however the figures presented in the projected financial statement imply that it cannot manage to be
efficient because the manufacturing costs represent 70% of the total sales and continue to increase
over the periods. The projected net income represents only 1 to 5 percent of the total sales. With this
amount of net income, Elan cannot be a true market leader in profitability as Ben wanted.
Projected current ratios of 1.5, 1.7, 2.1 give liquidity concerns.
Projected quick ratios of 0.6/0.66 for 2002/2003 cause concern as well. From the wide gap between
current and quick ratios, it can be interpreted that work in process and finished inventory represents a
very critical amount of the total current asset. In addition, the inventory turnover is forecasted to
decrease over the years. This implies more inventory piles up for the firm and can

  • 2. Navajo Code Talkers Navajo Code Talkers National security of every country highly depends on secrecy maintainance, especially during wartime. Secrecy is an important element of victory. However, it is important not only to code messages but also to break enemy codes in order to gain military advantages. During the Second World War it was very important for the United States to send and receive codes without any risk of being deciphered. For this reason the language of American indigenous population of the Navajo was chosen by the U.S. Marine Corps. This paper focuses on contributions made by the Navajo Code Talkers during the Second World War. The military enemies of the United States did not manage to break the code. One of the reasons why the Navajo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, they were sworn to secrecy and did not share the information even with their families. Indians were admitted to the construction of the code only after the training. The initial problem was that the Navajo language did not contain equivalents for English military terms and phrases. That is why it was a difficult task to transfer military terminology into the Navajo language. However, it was recognized that the code should have been both unbreakable and simple, because under combat conditions rapid transmission and translation of messages was of high importance.Long phrases might appear ineffective and inefficient. The Navajos decided to choose words that had direct association with nature, birds, and common Navajo life in order to avoid perplexity (Townsend 2000, 146). Generally, there were two methods of communication. According to Townsend (2000, 147), the first method concerned a words for alphabet system. This method was used to code some terms that could not easily be replaced with a specific word. It was ineffective to affix an Indian word to any random Pacific island. According to the alphabet method, each letter of the English alphabet was replaced by with an Indian word. For example, Tarawa Island was coded as turkey ant rabbit ant weasel ant . In Navajo, this would be pronounced as Than zie, wol la chee, gah, wol lo chee, gloe ih, wol la chee . Some English letters were represented by diverse terms in order to increase the ... • 3. The Cultural Icon Of The 20th Century Essay Amber Gentile 12 December 2016 Period 2 Albert Einstein The Cultural Icon from the 20th Century Albert Einstein once said I want to know God s thoughts, the rest are details . Einstein wanted an equation that would encapsulate all physical laws. To put the beauty and the power of the universe into a single equation was his life s goal. Although Einstein s name is now synonymous with genius, his professors would have never predicted him to be this successful as he would always cut class, and he could not get a single job after graduating. Einstein thought he was such loser that he wrote a letter to his family saying perhaps it would be better if he was never born. His father had to apply on behalf of Einstein for academic positions, but they all said there were no positions available. His father passed away thinking that Einstein was a total disgrace to the family. In 1902 Einstein moved to Switzerland, and began a career far from science. One of his friends got him a job to be a patent clerk in the Swiss patent office. He spent six days a week reviewing applications submitted by inventors to the Swiss government. He had to analyze the patents and strip them to their essence, which honed his skills as a physicist. Since it was not intellectually demanding it would give him ample time to contemplate the universe. Einstein s daydreams would change the way the universe was understood. • 4. Thomas Gage And His Impact On The Revolutionary War Essay Thomas Gage and His Impact on the Revolutionary War Matt Thompson Mountain View High School Back in 1774 Thomas Gage had a job that no one would envy. He would be tasked with stemming the tide of a rebellion in the colonies of North America. Many considered him the protagonist of the English cause in the Revolutionary war. Tensions were rising and Gage had just been appointed Military Governor of Massachusetts. With this title, he would effectively be the most powerful British official in the 13 Colonies. Gage had control over military, political, and diplomatic decisions (Britannica, 2015). When relations turned sour between the American colonies and their mother country, people looked to Gage to make it right. Gage was unable to take the necessary actions to prevent the war and ended up being a driving factor in the American Revolution. In the beginning of Gage s time serving in the military and the start of his tenure as Military Governor he was fairly well liked. Gage had fought in the French and Indian War after fighting a handful of battles in Europe. He joined the military in 1741 and came to America in 1754 (Walsh, 2013). As he served his country he began to move his way up the ranks of the British Army. It was in 1763 that he reached the precipice of his military career, becoming Commander in Chief of all British forces in North America. Just a few years after being appointed Governor of Montreal, he was now the most important and influential man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I ve always been one of those kids who would rather be outdoors playing sports than inside laying on the couch, watching television. • 6. The Rise Of Zionism And Arab Nationalism The rise of Zionism and Arab Nationalism in the nineteenth century triggered major political tensions in the region of Palestine. The conflict among the Zionists and Arab Nationalists is primarily due to the politics of territory and is essentially not comprised of religious opposition. In fact, before the advent of Zionism and Arab Nationalism, Jews and Palestinians shared a local identity due to mutual tolerances. This identity, which took precedence over religion, created a vivacious community with its own unique set of traditions and customs shared among the Jews, Muslims and Christians. However, following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Zionists whom were seeking a safe haven from Jewish prejudices in mainly Eastern Europe, proclaimed their return to Palestine. Zionists sought the territory of Palestine as the official land of the Jews because of their ancient homeland ties. Furthermore, as Zionism progressed, Arabs Nationalists were threatened by the ideology and the vast Jewish immigration to Palestine. In the Arab point of view, Zionism emerged as a European movement, which appeared to be another attempt by Western imperialism to subordinate Muslims to Europeans. Although Arab Nationalism and Zionism were similar in nature, these two identities were destined to clash primarily due to their irreconcilable nationalistic aspirations and cultural characteristics. The birth of Zionism began in Eastern Europe; the Zionist movement became known as a nationalistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Profile Based Personalized Web Search We suggest a Profile based personalized web search framework UPS (User customizable Privacy preserving Search), for each query ac cording to user specified privacy requirements profile is generated. For hierarchical user pro file we trust two conflicting metrics, namely personalization utility and privacy risk, with its NP hardness proved we formulate the problem of Profile based personalized search as Risk Profile Generalization. With the help of two greedy algorithms, namely GreedyIL and GreedyDP, we generate the expected search result, greedy algorithms support runtime profiling. While the former tries to maximize the discriminating power (DP), the latter attempts to minimize the in formation loss (IL). By exploiting a number of heuristics, GreedyIL outperforms GreedyDP significantly. For the client to decide whether to personalize a query in UPS we provide an inexpensive mechanism. Before each runtime profiling this decision can be made to improve the stability of the search results while avoid the needless exposure of the profile. 3.1 System Architecture : Indeed, the privacy concern is one of the main barriers is how to attain personalized search though preserving users privacy and deploying serious personalized search applica tions. • 8. What Are The Three Philosophies Of Legalism Philosophies are logical studies of basic truths about values, knowledge, and ultimately, the world. China had three primary philosophies which were considered as religions: Legalism Confucianism, and Daoism. These 3 main philosophies shaped China s government and history. Legalism is the belief that a powerful yet efficient government accompanied by a strict legal system is the key to order in society. One thing Legalists fear is disorder in society; that is why they believe order is important. This philosophy arose during the time of the Warring States, when kingdoms fought for control it was created in hope that, if China adopted a strong government which enforced strict laws, just like in Legalism, China s order would be restored, and its problems would be solved. Yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was similar to Legalists, in that he wanted to restore order. Nevertheless, his ideas differed on conflict resolution and peace in relationships. He believed that respect for and of others was essential for peace and order, and that government leaders should exhibit virtue. Confucius also emphasized education, believing it was of extreme importance for others to be educated. The Analects is a book created by Confucius disciples containing all of Confucius teachings; combined they form the set of beliefs known as Confucianism. There were 5 basic relationships: father and son; elder brother and younger brother; husband and wife; friend and friend; and ruler and subject. All of the relationships fall into 2 categories: proper conduct in the family and proper conduct in society. Now we delve into a primary source The Analects: The filial piety of now a days means the support of one s parents. • 9. The Pleistocene epoch was a time period of almost 2... The Pleistocene epoch was a time period of almost 2 million years of repeating glaciation around the globe. This epoch was known for its megafauna that roamed the Earth during the last great ice age. Although this was a time of mass extinction for species that could not adapt to the climate changes, many mammals and vertebrates that can be identified today were found during this time (Zimmermann, 2013). The Pleistocene epoch is an important foundation for understanding life that exists today, including carnivores, herbivores as well as the evolution of humans. Fossil preservation has always been the most accurate way to determine what species lived during a specific time period. Through correlations and radiometric dating, time periods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is estimated that mammoths had the largest biome on the plant at an estimated 1 square kilometer per mammoth (Zimov, 2014). Herbivores of the time ranged from under 45 kilograms to well over 1000 kg, making for a wide range of diversity within the speciation (graph below). While many of these mammals were preyed upon by the carnivores, some were simply too large to be killed by single predators, causing them to be relatively immune to predation (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado, 2006). (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado, 2006) The herbivores of course needed grasses and trees to feed on though, which became difficult as glaciation occurred cyclically causing for many to die from lack of livable environments. As the herbivore mammals died off, so did the predators that relied on them as a food source. While many of the herbivores became extinct during this time, others survived in certain places better than others. Native horses of North America for example existed before the end of the Pleistocene but disappear from the fossil record in that area. Horses as well as many other mammals in a similar situation still exist around the globe but were wiped out from their original habitats. In addition to carnivore and herbivore mammals, there were also many different species of birds and reptiles that existed. A common misconception is that dinosaurs lived during this time, but they had gone extinct some 60 million years before the Pleistocene began. Some species of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of Dave Barry s Guys Vs. Men Within his piece, Guys Vs. Men, Dave Barry articulates the different perspectives available on viewing males. Throughout his piece he utilizes a satirical tone to showcase this idea. The audience that Dave Barry is attempting to convey his message to is the general public. I believe this to be an appropriate assessment as the level of language employed by Dave Barry, throughout his piece, lacks complexity. His use of satire also helps to identify the audience. This is because the use of humour can be seen as a way to capture the attention of a reader quickly in hopes that the reader continues, and ultimately finishes the article. Using these as evidence I can conclude the audience being targeted is the general public. Dave Barry s thesis, which can be located in paragraph one, stating that there s another way to look at males: not as aggressive macho dominators; not as sensitive, liberated, hugging drummers; but as guys. Within his thesis, Dave Barry expresses how the stereotypes that define a male are not the only points of view of a male. He conveys that there are other perspectives available on how males can be viewed, and one of them is simply to view males as guys. In his body paragraphs, Dave Barry proceeds to explain the various characteristics that make up, and are exhibited by, guys. • 14. Peter Paul Rubens Dichotomy Peter Paul Rubens is known as one of the great artists of the Baroque period. Notorious for his paintings of religious scenes, mythology, and portraits, his style is easily recognizable through his portrayal of large, pale, nude women (Johnson 144, 145). In his painting, Diana and Her Nymphs Departing for the Hunt, Rubens positions Diana, a goddess in Roman mythology, at the forefront of the piece partially topless, reflecting her fertility and sexuality; meanwhile in the background a confrontation between a nymph and satyr display the conflict between nakedness and nudity, male and female, and obscene and control. In the article, Erotic Ambiguities: The Female Nude in Art, Helen McDonald, graduate of fine arts at University of Melbourne, argues that the difference between nude and naked can be simplified to the difference between privilege form over matter, male over female, and art over obscenity (McDonald 61). In order for the naked body to survive as art, Rubens must discipline and regulate the body (McDonald 61). In the painting, Diana and her nymphs are nude as opposed to naked because they are bounded by clothes and their body movements seem controlled. However, the satyr is naked instead of nude because his motions appear erratic and forceful, not within bounds, and the nymph is trying to control him. Diana, the goddess of the hunt, epitomizes control in the photo not just through her body language but because she has the power to tame wild animals, which is illustrated with her interaction with the dogs in the painting. Additionally, Nicole Sault in The Savage Body claims that a savage can be distinguished through his nakedness and that savages are typically portrayed as males until they have been controlled, in which they are depicted as female (Sault 4). The male satyr is a clear representation of a savage through his bare, partially animalistic body, while Diana is noticeably calm and composed. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Braxton Beverly, a 4 star recruit who is now a member of the North Carolina State Wolfpack, briefly attended classes at Ohio State. Originally committed to the Buckeyes, when Thad Matta was shown the door, Beverly left with him. These conflicts were due in particular, to the intense resentment of Protestantism as a religion and a fear of providing freedom of religion. These conflicts were very violent and were cause for a lot of change religiously in Europe. Although the Wars were very different throughout the various countries in Europe, there were also many similarities and I will explore these in this essay. The primary similarity between the Wars of Religion in Europe was the presence of a final compromise to end the conflict. • 18. Ptsd Is An Abbreviation For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder... Every year there are well over 7 million cases of PTSD that are announced (Kledzik). A small percentage of the people on Earth at some point in their life span will have some form of PTSD. A solution that will be able to help these people is commonly referred to as man s best friend. For many years PTSD dogs have been useful to relieve the severe symptoms of this disorder. They have proven themselves to be more than just an animal. Post traumatic stress disorder dogs are far beyond just man s best friend; they protect the protectors far after the wars end. First of all, what exactly is PTSD? PTSD is an abbreviation for post traumatic stress disorder. One website says that the people that have this disorder developed it from being in a situation that was threatening or terrifying ( Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ). This disorder does not only happen with veterans; PTSD can develop in anyone who has been assaulted, involved in any kind of accident, abuse, tragic loss of a close person, or hurricane victims. There are many symptoms that can be seen in people who have this disorder; however, the symptoms can be different between adults and children. In a different article by the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs they mentioned: Although PTSD symptoms can begin right after a traumatic event, PTSD is not diagnosed unless the symptoms last for at least one month, and either cause significant distress or interfere with work or home life. • 19. Gottfried Leibniz Is A Strong Proponent Of The Idea That Gottfried Leibniz is a strong proponent of the idea that everything exists for a reason and that God is the ultimate reason that leads to the creation of our world, the best of all possible worlds. Using the principle of sufficient reason, Leibniz helps us understand the existence of substance and how each substance is synthesized for some particular purpose. He then claims that inevitably the PSR can be indefinitely applied, and eventually leads us back to the existence of God as the main source. Leibniz asserts that under the circumstances provided by the nature of God, the world that is created is the best possible world, as anything else would violate the implications of the PSR. Although Leibniz s proposal of the PSR and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, Leibniz argues, if we work back far enough along the chain, we reach a point where we can no longer comprehend a reason for something to happen. This is solved by introducing God as the ultimate reason behind anything. Leibniz does not necessarily argue that God is an omnipotent or omnipresent being, but more so uses the concept of God to encompass the motivation for all that is unexplainable. He suggests that whatever reasons we cannot comprehend must be reasons beyond our capability to understand and only fall to God as their creator. God becomes the rational explanation that is necessary to end the chain of inquiry created by the PSR. There is more to God than just being the ultimate reason for things. Leibniz argues that God is motivated to pick the most rational and perfect world there is. An irrational world would not exist, according to the PSR, as it would not serve its purpose as holistically as a rational world could. Unlike Descartes, who was a proponent of the idea that whatever God does is good, Leibniz thinks that rationality precedes God and that God s reason for a particular action is that it objectively is the most rational. Thus God s actions are good in the sense that they are the most ideal. God s rationality allows for a universe with minimal laws but the largest amount of phenomena. • 20. The Effects Of Music Therapy On Improving The Qol According to Alzheimer s Disease International (2012), there are 36 million people living with dementia worldwide in 2010 and will increase to 66 million by 2030 (p. 7). There is no treatment and prevention currently available and many elderly people are diagnosed with the dementia. Dementia gradually destroys the cells in the brain responsible for memory, thinking, judgment, and behavior. The day to day activities and simple tasks can be confusing and frustrating for the dementia patient, reducing their quality of life (QoL). Maintaining and improving the QoL plays a vital role in improving the survival rate. I will be working with the dementia clients so, it is important to understand how to measure and improve the QoL in order to provide better services according to the patient s needs. In this paper, I will address the standard instrument used in measuring the QoL, and the effectiveness of music therapy in enhancing and improving the QoL. According to Barofsky (2011), Rabins, Black (2007), QoL is a broad concept without a unique definition and does not depend on a specific set of individual characteristics (as cited in Graske, Fischer, Kuhlmey, Wolf Ostermann, 2012, p. 1). Whitehouse colleagues (1997), stated that cognitive function; activities of daily living, social interactions and psychological well being are the important components that maintain QoL (as cited in Crespo, Bernaldo de Quiros, Gomez, Hornillos, 2012) Assessing and analyzing QoL is ... First, they fell because they imitated the evil of those around them (vss. 7 8). Second, they fell because they practiced idolatry (vss. 9 12). Third, they fell because they rebelled against God (vss. 13 16). Forth, they fell because they sacrificed their children (vss. 17 18). Samaria fell to the Syrians during the reign of King Hoshea. 9. Up until 1867 Gladstone had shown very little sympathy towards the Irish, all his life he had held them in contempt, visiting only once. His mission to pacify Ireland was surprising and his motives suspect. Many historians believe that Ireland was a cause through which Gladstone was to unify his divided party. Despite the fact that the Act solved once and for all the major religious grievance of the Irish Roman Catholics [1]in practice it made very little difference the lives of most Irishmen. It did not by any means solve religious differences, Protestants still owned much of the land, and they still dominated the resented landlord class. The consequences of the act were more symbolic than practical, it did very little to pacify Ireland. Most agreed that the key to Ireland s problems lay in the land question. This question of questions for Ireland (John Devoy) proved much more difficult than church reform due to the complexities of the Irish Land System and the wider range of interests involved. Lord Kimberley wrote no measures of any kind can satisfy the Irish: the utmost they can do is to lay the basis for a gradual improvement . Kimberley s prognostication was very close to the truth. The goal of premarital counseling is to promote discussion of difficult questions that may arise after the nuptial vows. In some instances, couples are ill prepared for marriage because they do not have a relationship that has considered and worked through any type of conflict resolution (Phegley, 2003). Clergy who are entrusted to conduct the marriage ceremonies have a duty to assist couples in discussing and facing the difficulties that will arise as a marriage develops (McGeorge Carlson, 2006). Lack of communication can lead to many complications that often lead to individuals going their separate ways in a marriage (Clinton Sibcy, 2006).
