Importance Of Voting In Texas
Texas has a long ballot, which is an election system that provides for the election that lists all
candidates, for all positions, from all political parties, available to a specific voting district. The long
ballot includes the president and vice president, two U.S. senators, U.S. Representatives, governor of
Texas and five other state executive officials, three railroad commissioners, one member of the State
Board of Education (SBOE), one state senator, one state representatives, nine members if the Texas
Supreme Court, Nine members of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, at least two and as many as 70
or more state appellate and district court judges, and numerous local officials varying in city officials
to county executives. Being that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Had the ballot been shorter, they believe their decisions could have had more knowledgeable. I believe
that it is important to be well informed when going to vote, and it has now been brought to my
attention that the ballot will contain many positions to vote on, so I will be sure to research candidates
and show up to the voting station informed and sure of my decisions. In Texas, there are a few types of
elections held: general elections, primary elections, runoff elections and special elections. The general
election is held in November of even years statewide to fill state and national offices. The primary is
an election held within each party to choose the party s candidates for general elections. Runoff
elections are held if no candidate in the primary election receives the majority of votes. Special
elections are held outside of the regular election calendar to fill unexpected vacancies. Because Texas
holds a few types of elections, people believe Texas has too many elections, but I disagree and find
that the amount of elections held are necessary to access situations such as vacancies and allow for
voters to practice their right to vote more

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Information System
The first aspect is customer knowledge it is necessary to know what your customers advantages and
disadvantages are. Implying awareness of key customer characteristics that are relevant to your
organization s business processes. You will also need to analyze the different types of customers you
have and how each customer type interacts with the business. The Information System helps to get the
date of different customers when purchasing different products. When purchasing a product the
customer s needs to insert data such as name , date of birth , address , whether the individual is
married, his preferences, as well as analytical characteristics such as purchasing patterns or credit
worthiness all these information creates a data base ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Research Paper On My Lai Massacre
My Lai On March 16, 1968, in the Quang Ngai region of Vietnam, specifically My Lai, the United
States military was involved in an appalling slaughter of approximately 500 Vietnamese civilians.
There are numerous arguments as to why this incident even had the capacity to occur. Although some
of the arguments seem valid, can one really make excuses for the slaughter of innocent people? The
company that was responsible for the My Lai incident was the Charlie Company and throughout the
company there were many different accounts of what happened that reprehensible day. Therefore there
are a few contradictions about what had occurred, such as what the commanding officers exact
instructions for the soldiers were. Even with these contradictions ... Show more content on

Ridenhour became informed about My Lai through stories that his fellow veterans had told him. He
stated, I wanted to get those people. I wanted to reveal what they did. My God, when I first came
home, I would tell my friends and cry literally cry. (Linder) The letters he wrote, for the most part
were cast aside, but some recipients were curious. Representative Morris Udall decided the letter was
not to be ignored and what Ridenhour claimed had happened needed to be investigated. This is where
the trials and the questioning of what actually happened, who was to blame, and what the reasons for
this calamity were, began. The real query though was, even if the above questions could be answered
would there ever be a clear explanation/excuse for this tragedy. As mentioned before the Vietnam War
caused the soldiers to harbor a lot of hostility directed at their situation as opposed to just their enemy.
These were all relatively young men fighting, 18 22, most without anything more than a high school
education. They were in a strange foreign country fighting a war that most of them did not even
understand. They were fighting in an oppressively hot climate among peasants of an alien culture.
(Goff, Moss Terry, Upshur, 445) The main problem was that Vietnam was not a conventional war, it
was very difficult to tell who the enemy was. Members of the 48th Battalion reportedly lived with the
local villagers in order to conceal their presence, often

Essay Museum of Modern Art in New York
Museum of Modern Art in New York
Roxanne Briano The Museum of Modern Art in New York City is the world s leading modern art. Its
exhibits have been a major influence in creating and stimulating popular awareness of modern art and
its accompanying diversity of its styles and movements. The museum s outstanding collections of
modern painting, sculpture, drawings, and prints range from Impressionisms to current movements.
Moreover, there are exhibits of modern architecture, industrial design, sculpture, photography, prints
and electronic media. The museum presently has a modern art library of 300,000 books and
impressive collections of films that are shown regularly. The Museum is said to be the complementary

Barr submitted the concept of what was to become of the museum. It had to be organized as a multi
departmental structure each devoted for Architecture and Design, Photography, Film and Video, and
they should stand side by side with traditional arts such as Painting and Sculpture. Architect Philip
Johnson built on this idea. The multi departmental structure seemed to best fit with the burgeoning
International Style, a modernist architectural movement from which Philip Johnson belonged. In this
architecture, buildings are designed with simple geometric lines and clean, precise surfaces and with
minimum decoration. Walls are made almost entirely of glass, known as curtain walls a signature
Johnson was known for that are used to give the building a light and airy appearance.
The Museum of Modern of Art was the first to use the words International Style , which was a fitting
term to introduce modernist arts to the world. Johnson and another renowned architect Henry Russell
Hitchcock organized a major show under the title Modern Architecture: International Exhibition .
There they described the International Style that expresses several design principles, that concerns
with volume rather than mass and solidity, regularity instead of axial symmetry, and the proscription
of arbitrary applied decoration . Exhibits featured leading European and American architects,
especially the likes of Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der

Examples Of Manliness In Okonkwo
2. Reread pages 52 54 and copy down quotations that help us understand Okonkwo s view of
manhood or manliness . After each quotation, write down your analysis of it.
One quotation that expresses Okonkwo s view of manliness states Okonkwo was always happy when
he heard [Nwoye] grumbling about women. That showed that in time he would be able to control his
womenfolk (53). This quotation shows that Oknonkwo feels pleasure when his son displays signs of
power, such as the control of the perceived weaker gender. Ergo, Okonkwo views the subordination of
others by his son as an example of masculinity. This idea is further supported by the quotation: No
matter how prosperous a man was, if he was unable to rule his women and his children... he was not
really a man (53). Oknonkwo clearly considers utter authority of one s nuclear family as a prerequisite
to meet manhood. He literally states that a man without patriarchy in his family is not a man.
Therefore, when Nwoye displays the early signs of this dominance, like the grumbling about his
subordinate women s issues, Okonkwo is finally considering his son masculine as shown by his
happiness.
Okonkwo s view is further developed when he encouraged [Nwoye and Ikemefuna] to sit with him in
his obi, and he told them stories of the land masculine stories of violence and bloodshed (53). This
quote shows that Okonkwo believes gory subjects to be suitable and honestly necessary for men
entering manhood. He takes these two

Business Portfolio Objectives And Constraints
EXHIBIT 8: CREATING A CUSTOMISED BENCHMARK WITH BUSINESS PORTFOLIO
OBJECTIVES AND CONSTRAINTS A major stumbling point within benchmark creation is that the
mandates of the benchmark must match the mandates of the portfolio; this issue is often raised when a
portion of the portfolio is Buy and Maintain To control for this, partition the portfolio into two blocks:
Block ND is Buy and Maintain (Non Discretionary) and so the portfolio manager should be measured
by credit migration and default relative to market over portfolio lifetime Pass Block ND to the
benchmark as is the effect of this is that changes in these assets are realized identically in both the
benchmark and portfolio, and thus net out when relative value performance is ... Show more content

For example, regulated utilities will lend themselves more naturally to a Buy and Maintain portfolio
than the more volatile technology sector. This is because every business cycle is different, and so are
the relative performance patterns among sectors. Using a disciplined approach, it is possible to
construct a resilient portfolio in each environment and through every phase of every business cycle
and that offers strong full phase average performance over its lifetime. Sector selection There are four
main phases to a normal market cycle. The recovery phase often sees strong growth, low interest rates
and growth in corporate profits. Sectors sensitive to interest rates and to economic growth such as
financials, industrials, information technology, and materials should do well. In the middle phase of
the cycle, positive GDP growth, strong credit growth and healthy corporate profitability tends to still
favor more economically sensitive sectors, such as information technology and industrials. In contrast,
later in the cycle, building inflationary pressures have often favored the energy and materials sectors,
which benefit from rising commodity prices. Defensive oriented sectors, such as healthcare, consumer
staples and utilities, have also generally performed well as the economy begins to slow, while
economically sensitive sectors such as information technology,

Economic Growth And Economic Development
Economic growth refers to an increase in the capacity for an economy to produce goods and services
as compared from one period of time to another. It can be measured either in nominal terms which
include inflation, or in real terms that are adjusted for inflation. It is mainly influenced by
unemployment, inflation, technology levels, rate of investment, population growth rate, among other
factors. These factors are used further to explain the differences in the varying level of output per
capita between and among countries, and explain why some countries are economically growing faster
than others. These factors are best represented in both the theoretical and empirical forms through the
neoclassical endogenous growth models (Steil, 2013, n.p.).
Economic growth revolves around business cycle which include the following phases; depression,
growth or expansion, boom and recession. During economic downfalls such as recession and
depression phases, it is evident that aggregate demand for both goods and services might be
insufficient thus leading to unnecessarily high unemployment rates, low investments and potential
losses of economic output. At this phase the economy of a country goes down as some of the
investments and savings are used to cater for other basic necessities. Inflation also pins down the
growth further as the purchasing power of the current level of income is greatly reduced. As explained
by the IS/LM model in the general theory by John Hicks, there are some

Tropical Rainforest Essay
Tropical Rainforest Description After my research, I have found that the tropical rainforest is very
important because they help maintain global weather and rain patterns. Tropical rainforests are also
warm all year round, its temperature barely changes from day to night. The tropical rainforest is pretty
wet from all that rain and has high humidity. The vegetation in a rainforest is very green with very
different heights. There are three major layers of vegetation. The first and top layer is called the
canopy, it is made up of large trees , the second layer is the understory, it is made up of vines, smaller
trees, and ferns, the third and bottom layer is called the floor, it is covered with wet leaves and leaf
litter. Many famous mountains and rivers are found in the rainforest, such as, Mount Kilimanjaro,
Amazon river, and Angel Falls. Heavy vegetation causes the rain to take up to ten minutes to reach the
ground.

Main causes for endangerment is destruction of the biome, hunting, and pollution. Some of the
endangered animals include gorillas and bengal tigers. Gorillas are endangered because of destruction
of the environment and hunting. There is an estimated 80% of gorilla population extinct. The bengal
tiger is endangered because of poaching. Since bengal tigers do not die easily from bullets poachers
would kill them with poisoned meats to cause the tiger a long and agonising death. There are also
endangered plants, such as the orchids and mangrove trees. The orchids are endangered because of
how beautiful they are and people just want to pick them. Mangrove trees are endangered because of
poachers trying to get there bark off of the tree. So many plants and animals will be extinct if there is

Pros And Cons Of Batman And Superman
Batman and Superman are DC s most valuable super heroes. They fight crime, help those in need, and
protect their cities. Truly that is hero, someone we should look up to. Or is it? Today I was tasked with
deciding whether or not, Batman and Superman do more harm than good as role models and cultural
icons. I have come to the conclusion that they do more harm than good. It s important to note that I
will be basing most of my information on the Superman and Batman movie. I have 3 main reasons
why I believe this, 1 they are not relatable, 2 they solve their problems through violence, and 3 they
are very dark. Let s begin with point one.
The first reason why I agree with the statement, As role models and cultural icons, Batman and
Superman do more harm than good. Is because of how unrelatable they are to people. Starting with
Superman, he is an alien from a different world. He has powers that no one on earth can attain,
unbreakable skin, laser eyes, the ability to fly by himself, and X ray vision (Superman s). No one can
relate to any of those powers (Superman). Meanwhile, Batman is an orphan, who has billions of
dollars. Some people can relate with the loss of a loved one but very, very few have access to even a
million dollars. We look at them and see something that we can never be. Batman and Superman are
role models and cultural icons that do more harm than good.
The second reason why Batman and Superman as role models and cultural icons do more harm than
good is because they solve the majority of their problems through violence. Dr. Sharon Lamb states,
Today s superhero is too much like an action hero who participates in non stop violence...rarely speaks
to the virtue of doing good for humanity, (Chivers). She is 100% correct in this. In the 2013 movie,
Man of Steel, our hero flies about destroying the city he swore to protect. Buildings fall, lives are
taken, and superman brings up no mention of any virtue by the end of the film. He uses violence. This
continues on in basically every show that includes him. Bad guy shows up, does a bad thing, and
Superman flies over, beats up the villain and wins the day. Now we examine Batman. He does the
exact same thing, gliding around his city beating up crime and

Desegregation Acts Research Paper
Desegregation Acts Throughout the years, the people of this nation have faced many a hardship that
one could consider naught how challenging the tasks were. With the times being that grim, it seemed
as if the goal of equality was just a dream hanging from the clouds. Although, a recent chain of events
had brought everyone s judgement into questioning: the civil rights movement. Without the court
cases involved, the grand quest for abolishing racism would not have made as big an influence as it
had. These three court cases have aided the desegregation of the country: Shelley vs. Kraemer, Loving

Kraemer, Loving vs. Virginia, and Swann vs. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education. The first
case had involved a neighborhood who had signed a covenant stating that for fifty years, people of
other races were to not buy a house in the area, it seems as if they did not believe in love thy neighbor
(Mark 12:31 KJV). Later, in 1967, Virginia had passed laws that made interracial marriage a felony,
the people had realized that the statutes are not always reliable when they found out that the laws
punished all races, including the whites. Four years later, a new court case had marveled many, Swann
vs. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education, with the Little Rock 9 enabled to go to a white school:
infuriating many parents that believed the people should be separated based on color and proceeding
to harass the kids any way they can. The ignorance of the people was difficult to deal with, however,

Jennifer Aniston Commercial Analysis
On television, there are numerous amounts of commercials that contain celebrities endorsing products
that he or she claim to use. One commercial in particular that comes mind first is the Aveeno
commercial with Jennifer Aniston (O Keefe, 2013). She has been doing the Aveeno commercials for
years now, and I still have a hard time believing she actually uses a drug store product and that the
product actually works (O Keefe, 2013). Aniston is usually promoting a face cream that gets rid of
aging spots, but it doesn t seem like she has any aging spots to begin with (O Keefe, 2013). Also, with

The Effect Of Analyzed Chemical Energy Of Sodium Chloride...
Practical Investigation: Enthalpy of Solution
Introduction
The enthalpy of a substance or solution refers to the chemical energy or heat content that is stored
within the substance. When a substance undergoes a reaction, the chemical energy in the substance is
released or more energy gets absorbed into the substance; this is known as exothermic and
endothermic reactions, respectively. Within this practical, the aim was to investigate the change in
stored chemical energy of a sodium chloride solution by measuring the temperature change that occurs
when sodium chloride is added to distilled water. The experiment was carried out by using a
calorimeter, to contain any energy that could be released in the reaction, and also a hand held
thermometer and digital thermometer to measure the change in temperature.
Aim
The aim of this practical is to investigate and compare the effectiveness of hand held thermometers
and digital probes through determining the enthalpy of sodium chloride solutions.
Hypothesis
When the sodium chloride is added into the water inside the calorimeter, an endothermic or
exothermic reaction will occur, indicating a change in enthalpy from the water to the solution. The
digital probe will most likely give a more accurate reading of the temperature change, thus giving
more accurate results.
Variables
Independent: the independent variables in this experiment were the water and the solution. The water
physically reacted with the sodium chloride to create a

Navigation and Pose Estimation Theory
Basic Theory In the previous chapter, we introduce about the indoor positioning system techniques
and the research directions. In this chapter we will describe the basic theory related with the
navigation and pose estimation systems for example, the coordinate system, the dead reckoning
method, the characteristic of Wi Fi radio signal propagation etc. For all of the basic ideas are very
important thing to understanding the configuration of our research as follow;
2.1 The Local Coordinate system The coordinate system was used to defined in local area
environment name is the Cartesian coordinate system refer to [55]. It can be referenced by placing the
origin to the local point consist with 3 reference axis, there are axis is directed to the vertical, axis is
pointed to the north and axis is directed to the east, see in figure 1. Figure 1 The Cartesian coordinate
system.
The plane is the horizontal plane and the vertical plane is defined perpendicular to the ellipsoid such a
coordinate system is also called a local horizontal coordinate system. From figure 1. can be described,
the projection point whose coordinates in global and local coordinate system are and respectively, one
has relation of as follow: (2.1)
Where the is the azimuth angle measure from the north clockwise, is the zenith distance that mean the

Thomas Paine was decidedly important to America from his very humble beginnings. In order to
understand what helped him become so important, how he grew up and what led him to the United
States must be examined. Paine was trying to explain to the Americans that without God nothing was
possible. Paine also explained to them that the way the British government was being run is not the
way to run America. By the end of Paine s life, it become abundantly clear that Paine was no longer
America s hero. Paine s many writings included The Crisis , Common Sense , and The Age of Reason

The Age of Reason was when Paine s great reputation as being a prime mover was ruined. It is one of
the ironies of the literary and theological world that The Age of Reason , which, although written to
express the author s doubts regarding traditional religion, was intended primarily to save the world
from atheism, brought against Paine the charge of atheism (The Age of Reason 1). Paine let his beliefs
get him into a lot of trouble. Paine s Christian beliefs brought out his bitter criticism of atheism. The
Christian system of faith, he says, seems to be a species of atheism, a kind of denial of God, for it
believes in a man rather than in the true God and interposes between man and his maker an opaque
body, which calls a Redeemer (The Age of Reason 3). When Americans who once worshipped Paine
started reading his thoughts on religion, they began to change how they felt about him. Upon his

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Balanced Scorecard
The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is thoroughly sustainable. Because when the proper management can
be done and when the formulation process can be done impeccably, then the sustainable Balanced
Scorecard (BSC) can be incorporated. There are some sorts of features that may help in maintaining
the sustainability. The perspectives should also be well formulated. The financial and customer s
attitude helps in maintaining the total business organization perfectly and then the internal business
process can be run in a perfect manner so that the sustainability can be measured. Besides, the point is
the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is sustainable universally and it can be used in any moment to pursue
the performance measurement activities.
BSC and Other Performance Management methods
Many performance management methods have been adopted by organizations to maintain their
performance. These methods assist organizations in different ways, each having its strengths and
weaknesses. This section illustrates some of the management methods and tries to compare it with the
BSC approach.
KPI VS BSC
The most familiar approaches are KPI (Key Performance Indicators) and Balanced Scorecard. While
both concepts refer to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the crucial difference between the BSC and TQM is the emphasis of each of tools. The BSC
more emphasizes on financial objects.According to the biggest difference between BSC and TQM
that, BSC takes a holistic view of performance, where TQM tends to emphasize improvements to
internal business processes. Zahirul (2003), concluded that TQM does not consider employees in its
search for continuous improvement, but the BSC does. As a result, when BSC focuses on whole
organization, TQM focuses more on internal processes. Therefore, by adopting a BSC a firm that has
adopted TQM may overcome this oversight that should increase employee satisfaction and later on

Major Field Delay In Major League Baseball
These new rules eliminate some of the major field delays, or at least they shorten them. The no pitch
intentional walks eliminate some of the hectic wild pitches or a batter swinging at a low ball. Instead,
team managers will just notify the umpires when a walk is the desired outcome, thus bypassing all the
in between. This is something that will overall save a lot of time, but it will also face the loss of some
excitement (Shaheen). Challenges on calls is one of the things that causes a lot of delays when it
comes to the Major Leagues. This season starts a time limit for managers to call replays and
challenges to a call. They now only have 30 seconds to decide to challenge and replay after a call is
made, and there is now a two minute time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the biggest being starting in extra innings a runner will be placed on second base, increasing
the possibility for the batting team to score in the given inning. This rule was thought up after
countless games going into extra innings. Most notably the game between the Boston Red Sox and the
New York Yankees, in 2015, where this game went into 19 innings, lasting well over six hours. There
are still so many games per season that go into extra innings, most of which stay between 10 and 13,
there are still the freak games that happen that get its way up to 19 innings. With each extra inning
adding an average of twenty minutes onto the game time, it becomes an extremely drawn out game
(Kopf). Dan Kopf discusses in his article Major League Baseball Is Testing a Rule to Start Extra
Innings with a Runner on Second , that the chances with a player added on second base in ending the
given innings a tie decrease by about 10 percent, which when it comes down to it, is a pretty big
percentage, and really anything helps when it is already a 10 or 11 inning game. With this addition,
though, the average game time will not be affected, the average extra innings game time will, and will
definitely speed up the time with a player already in scoring position (Kopf). Not only will it affect the
game time but it will also be better for the teams and the players. If a game goes into extra innings
there is the probability of running out of able pitchers, so a manager would either have to use pitchers
that are tired, and have the possibility of them hurting themselves or pull utility players to pitch, which
really is not ideal either (SI

Gender Roles In The Golden Compass And Harry Potter
The Golden Compass and the Harry Potter serious are both very well known and loved by many. In
both stories the main characters are faced with challenges that force them to think and overcome
obstacles. However, the way each book handles how the characters are able to b tackle those problems
differ slightly. In the Golden Compass, Lyra tries to avoid books and the teachers around the place she
calls home, Jordan College. She would prefer to play and learn through forming her own opinions and
by making mistakes. Meanwhile, in Harry Potter the emphasis on book learning couldn t be more
apparent, nearly the entire book takes place inside a school. While both books encourage learning, the

The school and class the main characters take part in don t only give them the tools they need to
succeed but are a big part in developing their character. The houses of Hogwarts are the main way the
school shapes what the characters will be like because they are placed into a house based on their
personality. Both the house system and the large emphasis on books is very important for Harry
especially. He knows nothing about being a wizard and having the massive library of Hogwarts with
all the knowledge he needs help him to learn about the new world he now finds himself in. Also,
Harry has had a terrible childhood being forced to live with a family that shows very little love
towards him. The houses at Hogwart help him to form bonds with the others into his house and form a
family of his own where he can feel wanted by the people around him. Knowing and being able to cast
spells is obviously essential to being a good wizard, which is why the students have so many different
classes for them to learn all aspects of magic. Nearly all the spells used or learned in the book were
taught directly by a teacher in a classroom. The school provides the tools any students needs to
become a great and successful wizard. Harry, Hermione and Ron even use books for their own
personal interests outside of class to help them with their adventures around the school. The main
example of this is when they

Teenage Brains
The brain has the function of making their body work and help with the teens brain daily life. The
gray matter is where nerves are located. They are affect the way the person acts. The gray matter is
where the nerves are located . One nerve is made up of neurons a nerve cell The neuron is made up of
dendrites, axons and nucleus . The dendrites receive signals from axon terminals and this is a
synapses. As a teen grows the brain starts pruning its synapses. With this the brain is taking out
instructions the brain can already do or already knows. This is making room for new ideas. The brain
secretes many hormones and neurotransmitters. A well known and used neurotransmitter is dopamine.

Going back to the gray matter, the outer layer of gray matter is the frontal cortex. This is where we
make decisions and where we do much of our conscious and complicated thinking. Phineas Gage, a
renowned neuroscience patient in the 1800, was hit with a iron rod to the head, yet minutes after he
was still able to move and act normal (Fleischman 6). The only thing was that he could not make
decisions. When given a $1000 for the pebbles he collected, he angrily refused the deal( 19). He was
not able to make the decision of getting the money or not. Neuroscientists have learned so much of the
brain that has helped us understand our own brains and the people around us. From this scientist
learned that the sections of the brain had parts and functions such as language and comprehension(65).
Lastly they learned about germs and that you need to make sure to disinfect your tools(17). Without
this our technology that is here would not be as progressed if we did not know this. All of these
components helped us understand the teen brain just a little bit

The Beauty Of Computer Science And Computer Engineering
Introduction:
Ever since I was a grade schooler, I enjoyed experimenting with Linux terminal coding and
programming on my computer. I can t forget the very first moment that a simple program I developed
started to work correctly. The beauty of computer science and computer engineering lies in the notion
that even with the numerous innovations in the field, there does exist plenty of room for improvement.
Watching and following the latest trends in the area of embedded systems, robotics, security and other
related fields, I became conscious of the fact that these would be the focus of the present century. I
remember a time when I dropped my father s notebook in junior high school. After I opened the
already broken notebook, I saw things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only then could I understand the basics of analog circuits, digital design, computers systems, and
robotics, and quench my thirst for knowledge in these areas for a little. Besides, I participated in some
courses of computer engineering in our faculty to comprehend more on the subject of security,
programming, and algorithms. The level of competitiveness in this major is extremely high
notwithstanding, I wanted to exploit the material I learned through classes in practical projects and
hence I worked on at least one academic project each semester and also I wanted to perceive their
usage in the industry at the same time, thanks to summer internships at the Nemone Pardaz Azar
company for the last 2 years, where I created a communication bridge for data loggers and worked on
automatic hospital beds. Under the supervision of Dr. Ghader Karimian, my thesis advisor, I have
researched in the laboratory of digital systems in our department, where I investigated on embedded
systems, digital design, robotics, computer vision and machine learning in the laboratory which helped
me to experience the way of researching in the academic fields. My thesis project is about monocular
tracking of a ball with a robotic arm using a computer, in which my understandings of Robotic OS and
Linux programming is of help. It s a work in progress and I m looking to finish the project in this year
and publish it in a journal the following year with the help of my advisor. As a teaching assistant, I

Selfishness in The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant Essay
Selfishness in The Necklace by Maupassant
In Guy de Maupassant s, The Necklace all the characters in the story exhibit similar behavior by
showing that they think of themselves rather than of others. A close look at the behavior of the
characters in The Necklace reveals more than a story about a spoiled selfish woman, but what we see
is a story about a whole society of selfish people.
In The Necklace a woman named Mathilde lives a depressed life because she does not live the life
style that she desires. She was one of those pretty and charming women, born, as if by an error of
destiny into a family of clerks and copyists. She had no dowry, no prospects, no way of getting

They leave in a rush because Mathilde doesn t want the other ladies to her in a modest, everyday wrap
while they were wearing expensive furs. When they arrive home they realize the necklace is gone, so
they retrace their steps trying to find it. When they have no luck, they buy the necklace for thirty six
thousand francs borrowing every cent from people. They spend ten years repaying everything back
including interest. When it is over, Mathilde confesses to her friend and receives the shocking news
that the necklace was costume jewelry and only worth a mere 500 francs at most.
In The Necklace, Mathilde is very selfish throughout the story. Mathilde shows her selfishness when
she longs to be rich and live in a nice home, wear expensive clothing and wear flashy jewelry with her
clothes. These…show how materialistic Mathilde is and how selfish she is for caring only about
gaining these things for herself, says one critic (Directessays). Mr. Loisel provides the basic
necessities for her to live a good life, but she wants more than just the basic necessities. She wants
wealth and good social status that she does not and can not have. She feels depressed every time she
thinks about wealth or visits her rich friend [Mrs. Forrestier], a comrade from convent days, whom she
did not want to see anymore because she suffered so much

Compare and Contrast how Cocaine, Ecstasy, Heroin and Cannabis Work in the Brain
Drugs of abuse, such as cocaine, ecstasy, heroin and cannabis, are of natural or synthetic origin, which
can alter the emotional state, perception, body functioning and behaviour of an individual. Drugs are
known to work in the brain by activating certain brain circuits via different mechanisms, and stimulate
or inhibit different neurons in the pathway. However, due to the effects of each drug being different, a
drug will affect either different pathways and neurons in the brain to that of another, or through a
different process, i.e. direct or indirect activity. This essay will discuss the different mechanisms of
action that cocaine, ecstasy, heroin and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cocaine, on the other hand, has been found to have a profound effect on increased dopamine activity.
Kennedy Hanbauer (1983; cited in Karch, 2007) found a strong correlation between cocaine binding
and the inhibition of dopamine uptake, and therefore proposed that dopamine transporters are binding
sites for cocaine. Such research, which correlates strong reinforcing properties of cocaine with
inhibition of dopamine transporters, suggests that cocaine has a more significant affect upon
dopamine, than than it has upon serotonin and noradrenaline. The excessive role of dopamine can
explain the high degree of pleasure that users of cocaine experience, as well as depression and
cravings, which follow.
In contrast to ecstasy and cocaine, which increase the secretion of natural neurotransmitters by
blocking transporters, direct agonists imitate natural endogenous neuromediators and bind to their
receptors. Heroin and cannabis are both examples of direct agonists.
Many regions of the brain contain cannabinoid receptors, of which anandamide molecules, concerned
with regulating mood, appetite and emotions, naturally bind to. Cannabis contains an active ingredient
known as delta 9 tetrahydrocannabonic (THC), and when smoked or eaten, the THC imitates the
activity of anandamide by binding to cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells, and therefore influences

Ethnocentrism is the perception of superiority in one s ethnic group, but it can also develop from

beautiful and lovely description of the daffodils portrayed in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud helps the
reader to envision what Wordsworth saw while he was out walking. Such a description makes a reader
s imagination flow and encaptures a reader. Another story that catches a reader s attention in a similar

Throughout I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud William Wordsworth shows his relationship with nature
through his choice of diction, fantastic descriptions, and shifting mood of his poem. There are also
many words and phrases that Wordsworth included into his poem that shows how he feels about
nature. These phrases are well written, extremely descriptive, and show how Wordsworth is influenced
by the wild: I wandered lonely as a cloud , When all at once I saw a crowd, a host, of golden daffodils
, Continuous as the stars that shine and twinkle on the milky way, they stretched in never ending line
along the margin of a bay: ten thousand saw I at a glance, tossing their heads in sprightly dance , The
waves beside them danced; but they out did the sparkling waves in glee , I gazed and gazed but little
thought what wealth the show to me had brought , and For oft, when on my couch I lie in vacant or in
pensive mood, they flash upon that inward eye [...] and then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances
with the daffodils. Another phrase, which indicates that the flowers were so beautiful that no true poet
could be sad in their presence, also builds upon Wordsworth s relationship with nature. These
particular lines in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud show how Wordsworth s mood shifts from somber
and lonely to joyous and content. The lines also show how the gorgeousness of nature sticks with

Discuss the Beneficial Effects of Activated Protein C in...
Sepsis is a potentially fatal medical condition where the blood is overwhelmed by the presence of
bacteria; activating the immune response and potentially causing organ dysfunction due to the
disruption of homeostasis, tissue perfusion and limited oxygen supply. Systemic inflammatory
response syndrome can be a key to the recognition of the illness. This condition can be treated with
antibiotics intravenously or by draining the infected fluid. However, treating the infection with
appropriate anti microbial medication does not always cure the illness. Understanding the activation of
inflammation, coagulation and fibrinolysis in the pathophysiology of sepsis, has allowed further

It inhibits thrombosis by inactivating co factors Va, and VIIIa (Neyrinck, 2009). When deficient,
Factor V can cause excessive blood clotting and Factor VIII, being an essential clotting factor, can
cause blood to profusely move out of tissues once cut or damaged (Faust, 2001 and Yan, 2001).
Thrombin may become limited, one reason being the decrease of plasma D dimer, which again
stimulates fibrinolysis (Bernard, 2001).
Animal models have been used to test the effectiveness of Protein C as a treatment for severe sepsis;
one example is an experiment carried out to investigate the coagulation effects of Protein C which was
tested using baboons (Taylor FB, 1987). Studies of this type have initiated the development of
recombinant human protein C; the activated form also termed drotrecogin alfa (activated).
A variety of variables are considered throughout the research of many experiments in investigating
whether Protein C is a beneficial treatment of severe sepsis. Animal models, specifically sheep, were
used to observe the clinical significance of APC in the work of Wang.Z et al. The results indicate the
beneficial consequence of APC on gaseous exchange and lactic acidosis; a considerably higher arterial
pressure is observed, as well as, higher thoracopulmonary compliance and PaO2/FIO2

However, because of Julies cognitive disability, she is not capable of coherently expressing her mental
thoughts. Additionally, because she looks physically different this also causes the able bodied to
minimalize their attention of her. This idea can be emphasized with how disabled individuals are
perceived to endure a life that is an on going foil, rather an accepted form of reality (Burghurdt 557).
This is because there is a general agreement in society that being disabled is determined upon the
appearance, or behaviors of the individual themselves. In effect, the normative ways of recognizing
the disabled person is the able bodied societies means to creating barriers towards what contradicts
their own clean and proper body. This barrier of ignorance is evidently demonstrated towards Julie,
because the able bodied recognize her as the abject, and consequently disregard the significance of she
utterances or actions throughout the story. However, the story makes Julie s vulnerability clear by
focusing on her internal thoughts as she remembers there is a bad man [...] he s the same man who
punched Julies mother and drowned the cat in the toilet. (30). Julie is personally thinking this, rather
expressing it. This form of evidence that is given about Julie, demonstrated how individuals like her
are trapped in their own world, and her cognitive disability keeps her from properly expressing her

  • 2. Importance Of Voting In Texas Texas has a long ballot, which is an election system that provides for the election that lists all candidates, for all positions, from all political parties, available to a specific voting district. The long ballot includes the president and vice president, two U.S. senators, U.S. Representatives, governor of Texas and five other state executive officials, three railroad commissioners, one member of the State Board of Education (SBOE), one state senator, one state representatives, nine members if the Texas Supreme Court, Nine members of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, at least two and as many as 70 or more state appellate and district court judges, and numerous local officials varying in city officials to county executives. I believe that it is important to be well informed when going to vote, and it has now been brought to my attention that the ballot will contain many positions to vote on, so I will be sure to research candidates and show up to the voting station informed and sure of my decisions. In Texas, there are a few types of elections held: general elections, primary elections, runoff elections and special elections. The general election is held in November of even years statewide to fill state and national offices. The primary is an election held within each party to choose the party s candidates for general elections. Runoff elections are held if no candidate in the primary election receives the majority of votes. Special elections are held outside of the regular election calendar to fill unexpected vacancies. Because Texas holds a few types of elections, people believe Texas has too many elections, but I disagree and find that the amount of elections held are necessary to access situations such as vacancies and allow for voters to practice their right to vote more ... • 4. Research Paper On My Lai Massacre My Lai On March 16, 1968, in the Quang Ngai region of Vietnam, specifically My Lai, the United States military was involved in an appalling slaughter of approximately 500 Vietnamese civilians. There are numerous arguments as to why this incident even had the capacity to occur. Although some of the arguments seem valid, can one really make excuses for the slaughter of innocent people? The company that was responsible for the My Lai incident was the Charlie Company and throughout the company there were many different accounts of what happened that reprehensible day. Therefore there are a few contradictions about what had occurred, such as what the commanding officers exact instructions for the soldiers were. Even with these contradictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ridenhour became informed about My Lai through stories that his fellow veterans had told him. He stated, I wanted to get those people. I wanted to reveal what they did. My God, when I first came home, I would tell my friends and cry literally cry. (Linder) The letters he wrote, for the most part were cast aside, but some recipients were curious. Representative Morris Udall decided the letter was not to be ignored and what Ridenhour claimed had happened needed to be investigated. This is where the trials and the questioning of what actually happened, who was to blame, and what the reasons for this calamity were, began. The real query though was, even if the above questions could be answered would there ever be a clear explanation/excuse for this tragedy. As mentioned before the Vietnam War caused the soldiers to harbor a lot of hostility directed at their situation as opposed to just their enemy. These were all relatively young men fighting, 18 22, most without anything more than a high school education. They were in a strange foreign country fighting a war that most of them did not even understand. They were fighting in an oppressively hot climate among peasants of an alien culture. (Goff, Moss Terry, Upshur, 445) The main problem was that Vietnam was not a conventional war, it was very difficult to tell who the enemy was. Members of the 48th Battalion reportedly lived with the local villagers in order to conceal their presence, often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay Museum of Modern Art in New York Museum of Modern Art in New York Roxanne Briano The Museum of Modern Art in New York City is the world s leading modern art. Its exhibits have been a major influence in creating and stimulating popular awareness of modern art and its accompanying diversity of its styles and movements. The museum s outstanding collections of modern painting, sculpture, drawings, and prints range from Impressionisms to current movements. Moreover, there are exhibits of modern architecture, industrial design, sculpture, photography, prints and electronic media. The museum presently has a modern art library of 300,000 books and impressive collections of films that are shown regularly. The Museum is said to be the complementary of the Metropolitan Museum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Barr submitted the concept of what was to become of the museum. It had to be organized as a multi departmental structure each devoted for Architecture and Design, Photography, Film and Video, and they should stand side by side with traditional arts such as Painting and Sculpture. Architect Philip Johnson built on this idea. The multi departmental structure seemed to best fit with the burgeoning International Style, a modernist architectural movement from which Philip Johnson belonged. In this architecture, buildings are designed with simple geometric lines and clean, precise surfaces and with minimum decoration. Walls are made almost entirely of glass, known as curtain walls a signature Johnson was known for that are used to give the building a light and airy appearance. The Museum of Modern of Art was the first to use the words International Style , which was a fitting term to introduce modernist arts to the world. Johnson and another renowned architect Henry Russell Hitchcock organized a major show under the title Modern Architecture: International Exhibition . There they described the International Style that expresses several design principles, that concerns with volume rather than mass and solidity, regularity instead of axial symmetry, and the proscription of arbitrary applied decoration . Exhibits featured leading European and American architects, especially the likes of Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Examples Of Manliness In Okonkwo 2. Reread pages 52 54 and copy down quotations that help us understand Okonkwo s view of manhood or manliness . After each quotation, write down your analysis of it. One quotation that expresses Okonkwo s view of manliness states Okonkwo was always happy when he heard [Nwoye] grumbling about women. That showed that in time he would be able to control his womenfolk (53). This quotation shows that Oknonkwo feels pleasure when his son displays signs of power, such as the control of the perceived weaker gender. Ergo, Okonkwo views the subordination of others by his son as an example of masculinity. This idea is further supported by the quotation: No matter how prosperous a man was, if he was unable to rule his women and his children... he was not really a man (53). Oknonkwo clearly considers utter authority of one s nuclear family as a prerequisite to meet manhood. He literally states that a man without patriarchy in his family is not a man. Therefore, when Nwoye displays the early signs of this dominance, like the grumbling about his subordinate women s issues, Okonkwo is finally considering his son masculine as shown by his happiness. Okonkwo s view is further developed when he encouraged [Nwoye and Ikemefuna] to sit with him in his obi, and he told them stories of the land masculine stories of violence and bloodshed (53). This quote shows that Okonkwo believes gory subjects to be suitable and honestly necessary for men entering manhood. He takes these two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Business Portfolio Objectives And Constraints EXHIBIT 8: CREATING A CUSTOMISED BENCHMARK WITH BUSINESS PORTFOLIO OBJECTIVES AND CONSTRAINTS A major stumbling point within benchmark creation is that the mandates of the benchmark must match the mandates of the portfolio; this issue is often raised when a portion of the portfolio is Buy and Maintain To control for this, partition the portfolio into two blocks: Block ND is Buy and Maintain (Non Discretionary) and so the portfolio manager should be measured by credit migration and default relative to market over portfolio lifetime Pass Block ND to the benchmark as is the effect of this is that changes in these assets are realized identically in both the benchmark and portfolio, and thus net out when relative value performance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, regulated utilities will lend themselves more naturally to a Buy and Maintain portfolio than the more volatile technology sector. This is because every business cycle is different, and so are the relative performance patterns among sectors. Using a disciplined approach, it is possible to construct a resilient portfolio in each environment and through every phase of every business cycle and that offers strong full phase average performance over its lifetime. Sector selection There are four main phases to a normal market cycle. The recovery phase often sees strong growth, low interest rates and growth in corporate profits. Sectors sensitive to interest rates and to economic growth such as financials, industrials, information technology, and materials should do well. In the middle phase of the cycle, positive GDP growth, strong credit growth and healthy corporate profitability tends to still favor more economically sensitive sectors, such as information technology and industrials. In contrast, later in the cycle, building inflationary pressures have often favored the energy and materials sectors, which benefit from rising commodity prices. Defensive oriented sectors, such as healthcare, consumer staples and utilities, have also generally performed well as the economy begins to slow, while economically sensitive sectors such as information technology, ... • 8. Economic Growth And Economic Development Economic growth refers to an increase in the capacity for an economy to produce goods and services as compared from one period of time to another. It can be measured either in nominal terms which include inflation, or in real terms that are adjusted for inflation. It is mainly influenced by unemployment, inflation, technology levels, rate of investment, population growth rate, among other factors. These factors are used further to explain the differences in the varying level of output per capita between and among countries, and explain why some countries are economically growing faster than others. These factors are best represented in both the theoretical and empirical forms through the neoclassical endogenous growth models (Steil, 2013, n.p.). Economic growth revolves around business cycle which include the following phases; depression, growth or expansion, boom and recession. During economic downfalls such as recession and depression phases, it is evident that aggregate demand for both goods and services might be insufficient thus leading to unnecessarily high unemployment rates, low investments and potential losses of economic output. At this phase the economy of a country goes down as some of the investments and savings are used to cater for other basic necessities. Inflation also pins down the growth further as the purchasing power of the current level of income is greatly reduced. As explained by the IS/LM model in the general theory by John Hicks, there are some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tropical Rainforest Essay Tropical Rainforest Description After my research, I have found that the tropical rainforest is very important because they help maintain global weather and rain patterns. Tropical rainforests are also warm all year round, its temperature barely changes from day to night. The tropical rainforest is pretty wet from all that rain and has high humidity. The vegetation in a rainforest is very green with very different heights. There are three major layers of vegetation. The first and top layer is called the canopy, it is made up of large trees , the second layer is the understory, it is made up of vines, smaller trees, and ferns, the third and bottom layer is called the floor, it is covered with wet leaves and leaf litter. Many famous mountains and rivers are found in the rainforest, such as, Mount Kilimanjaro, Amazon river, and Angel Falls. • 10. Pros And Cons Of Batman And Superman Batman and Superman are DC s most valuable super heroes. They fight crime, help those in need, and protect their cities. Truly that is hero, someone we should look up to. Or is it? Today I was tasked with deciding whether or not, Batman and Superman do more harm than good as role models and cultural icons. I have come to the conclusion that they do more harm than good. It s important to note that I will be basing most of my information on the Superman and Batman movie. I have 3 main reasons why I believe this, 1 they are not relatable, 2 they solve their problems through violence, and 3 they are very dark. Let s begin with point one. The first reason why I agree with the statement, As role models and cultural icons, Batman and Superman do more harm than good. Is because of how unrelatable they are to people. Starting with Superman, he is an alien from a different world. He has powers that no one on earth can attain, unbreakable skin, laser eyes, the ability to fly by himself, and X ray vision (Superman s). No one can relate to any of those powers (Superman). Meanwhile, Batman is an orphan, who has billions of dollars. Some people can relate with the loss of a loved one but very, very few have access to even a million dollars. We look at them and see something that we can never be. Batman and Superman are role models and cultural icons that do more harm than good. The second reason why Batman and Superman as role models and cultural icons do more harm than good is because they solve the majority of their problems through violence. Dr. Sharon Lamb states, Today s superhero is too much like an action hero who participates in non stop violence...rarely speaks to the virtue of doing good for humanity, (Chivers). She is 100% correct in this. In the 2013 movie, Man of Steel, our hero flies about destroying the city he swore to protect. Buildings fall, lives are taken, and superman brings up no mention of any virtue by the end of the film. He uses violence. This continues on in basically every show that includes him. Bad guy shows up, does a bad thing, and Superman flies over, beats up the villain and wins the day. Now we examine Batman. With the times being that grim, it seemed as if the goal of equality was just a dream hanging from the clouds. Although, a recent chain of events had brought everyone s judgement into questioning: the civil rights movement. Without the court cases involved, the grand quest for abolishing racism would not have made as big an influence as it had. Later, in 1967, Virginia had passed laws that made interracial marriage a felony, the people had realized that the statutes are not always reliable when they found out that the laws punished all races, including the whites. Four years later, a new court case had marveled many, Swann vs. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education, with the Little Rock 9 enabled to go to a white school: infuriating many parents that believed the people should be separated based on color and proceeding to harass the kids any way they can. • 14. The Effect Of Analyzed Chemical Energy Of Sodium Chloride... Practical Investigation: Enthalpy of Solution Introduction The enthalpy of a substance or solution refers to the chemical energy or heat content that is stored within the substance. When a substance undergoes a reaction, the chemical energy in the substance is released or more energy gets absorbed into the substance; this is known as exothermic and endothermic reactions, respectively. Within this practical, the aim was to investigate the change in stored chemical energy of a sodium chloride solution by measuring the temperature change that occurs when sodium chloride is added to distilled water. The experiment was carried out by using a calorimeter, to contain any energy that could be released in the reaction, and also a hand held thermometer and digital thermometer to measure the change in temperature. Aim The aim of this practical is to investigate and compare the effectiveness of hand held thermometers and digital probes through determining the enthalpy of sodium chloride solutions. Hypothesis When the sodium chloride is added into the water inside the calorimeter, an endothermic or exothermic reaction will occur, indicating a change in enthalpy from the water to the solution. The digital probe will most likely give a more accurate reading of the temperature change, thus giving more accurate results. Variables Independent: the independent variables in this experiment were the water and the solution. The water physically reacted with the sodium chloride to create a ... This rule was thought up after countless games going into extra innings. There are still so many games per season that go into extra innings, most of which stay between 10 and 13, there are still the freak games that happen that get its way up to 19 innings. With each extra inning adding an average of twenty minutes onto the game time, it becomes an extremely drawn out game (Kopf). Dan Kopf discusses in his article Major League Baseball Is Testing a Rule to Start Extra Innings with a Runner on Second , that the chances with a player added on second base in ending the given innings a tie decrease by about 10 percent, which when it comes down to it, is a pretty big percentage, and really anything helps when it is already a 10 or 11 inning game. With this addition, though, the average game time will not be affected, the average extra innings game time will, and will definitely speed up the time with a player already in scoring position (Kopf). Not only will it affect the game time but it will also be better for the teams and the players. Kennedy Hanbauer (1983; cited in Karch, 2007) found a strong correlation between cocaine binding and the inhibition of dopamine uptake, and therefore proposed that dopamine transporters are binding sites for cocaine. Such research, which correlates strong reinforcing properties of cocaine with inhibition of dopamine transporters, suggests that cocaine has a more significant affect upon dopamine, than than it has upon serotonin and noradrenaline. The excessive role of dopamine can explain the high degree of pleasure that users of cocaine experience, as well as depression and cravings, which follow. In contrast to ecstasy and cocaine, which increase the secretion of natural neurotransmitters by blocking transporters, direct agonists imitate natural endogenous neuromediators and bind to their receptors. Throughout I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud William Wordsworth shows his relationship with nature through his choice of diction, fantastic descriptions, and shifting mood of his poem. There are also many words and phrases that Wordsworth included into his poem that shows how he feels about nature. These phrases are well written, extremely descriptive, and show how Wordsworth is influenced by the wild: I wandered lonely as a cloud , When all at once I saw a crowd, a host, of golden daffodils , Continuous as the stars that shine and twinkle on the milky way, they stretched in never ending line along the margin of a bay: ten thousand saw I at a glance, tossing their heads in sprightly dance , The waves beside them danced; but they out did the sparkling waves in glee , I gazed and gazed but little thought what wealth the show to me had brought , and For oft, when on my couch I lie in vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon that inward eye [...] and then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils. Another phrase, which indicates that the flowers were so beautiful that no true poet could be sad in their presence, also builds upon Wordsworth s relationship with nature. These particular lines in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud show how Wordsworth s mood shifts from somber and lonely to joyous and content. The lines also show how the gorgeousness of nature sticks with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When deficient, Factor V can cause excessive blood clotting and Factor VIII, being an essential clotting factor, can cause blood to profusely move out of tissues once cut or damaged (Faust, 2001 and Yan, 2001). Thrombin may become limited, one reason being the decrease of plasma D dimer, which again stimulates fibrinolysis (Bernard, 2001). Animal models have been used to test the effectiveness of Protein C as a treatment for severe sepsis; one example is an experiment carried out to investigate the coagulation effects of Protein C which was tested using baboons (Taylor FB, 1987). Studies of this type have initiated the development of recombinant human protein C; the activated form also termed drotrecogin alfa (activated). A variety of variables are considered throughout the research of many experiments in investigating whether Protein C is a beneficial treatment of severe sepsis. Animal models, specifically sheep, were used to observe the clinical significance of APC in the work of Wang.Z et al. The results indicate the beneficial consequence of APC on gaseous exchange and lactic acidosis; a considerably higher arterial pressure is observed, as well as, higher thoracopulmonary compliance and PaO2/FIO2 ... Additionally, because she looks physically different this also causes the able bodied to minimalize their attention of her. This idea can be emphasized with how disabled individuals are perceived to endure a life that is an on going foil, rather an accepted form of reality (Burghurdt 557). This is because there is a general agreement in society that being disabled is determined upon the appearance, or behaviors of the individual themselves. In effect, the normative ways of recognizing the disabled person is the able bodied societies means to creating barriers towards what contradicts their own clean and proper body. This barrier of ignorance is evidently demonstrated towards Julie, because the able bodied recognize her as the abject, and consequently disregard the significance of she utterances or actions throughout the story. However, the story makes Julie s vulnerability clear by focusing on her internal thoughts as she remembers there is a bad man [...] he s the same man who punched Julies mother and drowned the cat in the toilet.
