Jasper John s 1983 Artwork Of Racing Thoughts And Byron...
Jasper John s 1983 artwork of Racing Thoughts and Byron Kim s 1991 Synecdoche are both in the
exhibited as part of the Whitney Museum s: Human Interest: Portraits from the Whitney Collection.
Applying encaustic process, which is known as a hot wax painting, Jasper John created this screen
print with wax crayon on collaged cotton and linen. Jasper John describes this piece as a series of
images that ran through his mindwhile he was lying in the bathtub. He included items he saw
around the room and things he was thinking about. Some of the elements in this piece are his
hanging khaki pants, the running faucet, a nail on the wall, a dirty window, a vase and a
decorative piece on a piece of furniture. Until you read the artist s description it is difficult to tell
that the white smear of paint is, evoking a feeling of disorientation. His arrangement of his images
is seemingly affixed to the faux wood grain background with trompe l oeil tape, thumbtacks, and a
protruding nail. The scale of images in Jasper s Racing Thoughts appears to be scaled to real life.
The texture of the painting evokes feeling of an antique surrounding like a bathroom in a third
world country. In addition, the colors and patterns in this painting, display how he is a person with
many things going through his mind at the same time with unorganized thoughts. A panel of Byron
Kim s, 1991, Synecdoche is displayed in the Whitney Museum one section out of a four hundred
panel ongoing project depicting the

The Privacy Of Online Consumers And Search Engines
How come google knows where a computer user has been? Social medias and search engines
have access to all the info that is deleted, saved or that people have in their browser and can
access it at any time.Search engines like Google have all the data that people have used in their
lifetime from every person in the world and all the data users think they have deleted that data is
actually being saved in hard drives on the GoogleHeadquarters. The thesis statement is that search
engines are invading the privacyof online consumers and search engines should not invade
consumer privacy because these Search engine companies have no business in finding what the user
is doing on the internet .Social media and Search engines are invading the privacy of internet
users all around the world and keep track of all user info on the computers and this should not be
allowed in any way..According to Caitlin Dewey , reporter in Washington D.C from the
washington post it states Google has, since 2009,published a transparency tool called Dashboard
which lets users see exactly what kind of data the internet giant has on them and from which
services. This quote shows that since 2009 Google decided to create the tool Dashboard which
makes it easier for google to see what other computer consumers are using.Another quote relating to
this issue also from(Dewey,2014) it states The issue of data collection has provoked renewed

The Compromise of 1850 Essay
The compromise of 1850 was a settlement on a series of issues plaguing the unity of the states.
The primary issue to address was the institution of slavery, which was causing much dissension
between the north and the south. Additional items to be addressed were territory issues and to
prevent secession by the south. Henry Clay stepped forward to present a compromise, which had
Congress in an eight month discussion known as the Great Debate . As a result of the proposal,
there were strong oppositions. One outspoken person who opposed the proposal was John C
Calhoun. Calhoun was an intellectual southern politician, political philosopher and a proponent to
the protection of Southern interests. He was an advocate for states rights and... Show more content

Webster believed the issue of slavery was settled long ago, when the regions were divided into
slave and free states, and he also believed an agreement could be reached between the pro slavery
positions in the south and anti slavery position in the north. Comparatively, Calhoun and Webster
both saw the union was in danger of falling apart, they also both believed the issues of slavery
between the north and the south was the major cause. Where they disagreed was on the future
state of slavery. Calhoun saw the compromise as a betrayal of the south; he sought to have the
northerners agree to the protection of slavery in the south so the south would remain in the union.
Calhoun knew slavery pre existed and believed it must continue to exist. Webster was more of a
pacifist, he pleaded with the northerners to accept demands of the south in order to save the
union, even though he did not accept the fact slavery needed to continue. Webster deeply believed
that preservation of the union was more important than any other issue. In addition, William
Henry Seward also opposed the proposed compromise. Seward was a New York politician and
secretary of state and was one of the major political figures of the mid nineteenth century; he
became one of the most outspoken anti slavery politicians of the period. Seward condemned Clay s
resolutions on the

The Travels Of Marco Polo
The Travels of Marco Polo begins with the journey taken by Marco Polo s father and his uncle, in
which they go to present day china and meet Kublai Khan. The Polo s family were the first
Europeans that Khan got to meet. The Polo s represent the ideals of Europeans and Khan was very
interested about their way of life. He wanted to know everything they knew about European politics,
religion, and their justice system, And then he inquired about the Pope and the Church, and about
all that is done at Rome, and all the customs of the Latins (chapter 4). Kublai Khanwillingness to
learn about Christianity was interesting. Different countries had their own beliefs. During these
time periods, people began to explore the world and enlighten others on how other cultures live.
Kahn allowed his people to belief in other religions. Not many leaders will allowed that. This is so
different from the romans, who persecuted Christians for their beliefs, fearing something different
from them. Kahn probably knew that allowing different religions gave his people more knowledge
of other cultures. His society was moving with the times. The country not being under one influence
represented how the word is. The world is populated with different types of people and cultures.
In 1271, the siblings and Marco Polo set off to come back to Kublai Khan with a specific end goal
to satisfy whatever is left of his solicitation, which was to convey hallowed oil from Jerusalem. It s

Discrimination In Sports
It s 2016 now, the U.S. Women s soccer team is in its prime. They won the World Cup of 2016
and are currently ranked the number one team in the world. When they won the World Cup, as a
whole they got paid $2 million dollars. The U.S. Men s team had lost in the first round of their
World Cup, yet they were paid $8 million dollars. Imagine how much more the U.S. Men s team
would have made if they won. Although men and women play the same sport at a high level, men
unfairly earn a higher wage than women. Although many things have changed over the years, there
are many more changes that need to come. Discrimination has occurred ever since the dawn of

The Effect Of Heavy Metals On Groundwater

Literature Review Assignment
The Effect Heavy Metals has on Groundwater
Introduction
Water is a major resource human s need for survival. As an important part of Earth s water,
groundwater is an indispensable resource for the development of the global social economy and
people s lives (He rong, et. al., 2015). Groundwater is an easy way for humans to be exposed to
heavy metals. Heavy metal contamination is a significant problem in several community and
agricultural areas (Chotpantart, et. al., 2013). Agrochemicals, including plant nutrients and
fertilizer, can cause increases in the concentration of heavy metals in the water and soil, and these
heavy metal can potentially reach levels in the ground than in the surface and eventually
groundwater (Chotpantart, et. al., 2013).
People living in agricultural areas have commonly consumed groundwater from shallow
groundwater wells (Chotpantart, et. al., 2013). In China, Groundwater is a valuable water resource.
China has become well known with accelerated urbanization and industrialization processes (Bai,
et. al., 2016). Urbanization, moving from rural areas to urban areas, is changing cities worldwide;
though this has benefitted the economy and people s living standards, it has also increased
anthropogenic activities (Egodawatta, et. al., 2016). This increase in activities can enhance some
pollutants in urban environments.
In April 2014, the city of Flint, Michigan changed getting its water supply from

Camaro SS vs Mustang GT Essay
Camaro SS vs Mustang GT Ask any avid Camaro or Mustang fan about the original ponycar era,
and you re bound to feel their pain. They ll describe cars that lit the tires on fire, floor it and hang
onto the wheel excitement. When people utter the words, American Muscle Car, two distinctive
cars come to mind. The Camaro SS and the Mustang GT. Both of these cars have been around
for generations and loved by all types of people. It has been only recently that both cars have
battled head to head so fiercely. You are either a hard core Chevy fan or a hardcore Ford fan, most
everybodypicks either Chevy or Ford. There are many similarities and differences in both of these
cars.

alloy wheels with high performance rubber, black leather sport bucket seats, stereo upgrade, all
speed traction control (defeatable), and convenience package. The grand total including destination
is a reasonable $25,140.
Like the Mustang GT, the Camaro SS has a huge fuel injected V 8. The engines on each of these
living beasts, pump out well over 250 horsepower. Both muscle cars have excellent 0 60 times in
the five second range and with quarter mile times within the fourteen second range, give or take
a second. There are drawbacks to every good thing. The Camaro and Mustang are primarily two
seaters with minimal room in the back for an adult. Children are perfect fits, although adults can
ride in the back, it makes for a very cramped ride. Both of the muscle cars are excellent examples
of competitive pricing, with the Mustang GT retailing for $25,140 and the Camaro for $29,656.
This just goes to show that you don t need to spend more than $75,000 for a top of the line sports
car. The Camaro and Mustang out perform some of their more expensive brother and sisters like
the Viper.
Much like the comparisons, the Camaro and Mustang have very different options about them also.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (OCD)
The final category would be those who hoard. Hoarding was once categorized as a symptom of
OCD, but has since been recognized as its own separate disorder based on evidence indicating
differences in cognitive and behavioral processing, course of illness, neurobiological basis and
treatment response (Mattina Steiner, 2016). But since the action of hoarding can be seen in many
with OCD, it is important for it to still be mentioned. Hoarders are those who have trouble
throwing anything away because of fear it may be needed or become useful in the future. These
objects can include anything and everything, including used paper napkins, useless gadgets or even
rotten food. These items eventually pile up and grows bigger and bigger until their... Show more

This line of treatment is only used when everything else has been tried and none of it has worked.
Furthermore, it is also only used on those with OCD so severe they are unable to function properly.
In other words, this form of treatment is the last resort. Psychosurgery is a medical procedure that
is conducted on the patient s brain. First, it is important to know that those who have OCD have an
abnormality or overactivity in their anterior cingulate gyrus. The cingulate gyrus is a component of
the limbic system and is involved in the processing emotions, behavior and regulation of autonomic
motor functioning. So because of that, the goal of the surgery is to stop the anterior cingulate gyrus
from its activity in the patient, which in theory will be able to allow the patient to function
normally again. This surgery helps the patient feel less anxiety and distress. But it should be
recognized that this surgery, like the majority of other surgeries, comes with both minor and severe

This is mostly for the physical, psychological, and social needs of the elderly population. Some
activities, such as chair aerobics, adult basics education, and GED classes are provided as part
of the program, as well as bingo, shuffleboard, horseshoe, and a walking program. In some
facilities, they provide assistance to elderly inmates so that they can apply for social security,
Medicare benefits, and a health care education program. In seven states, they have housing units
reserved for the elderly inmates. The reason for this is due to their special medical needs or their
eligibility for hospice care. For example, the Minnesota correctional facility for older prisoners
has a dedicated housing unit for inmates within the age range of fifty five and older with chronic
health problems (Abner). Nurses are provided for them sixteen hours a day (Abner). Angola state
penitentiary in Louisiana is one of the many prisons that offer hospice care for inmates in their
final stages of terminal illnesses. In numerous states, they have what is called compassionate
release programs. For some reason, it is hardly used due to the fact that most of the older prisoners
die while in prison or literally have no where to go, so they decided to remain imprisoned. Some
are released under medical reprieve, a supervised release program for prisoners who are
considered a low risk for re offending. Due to the population growth amongst elderly prisoners,
along with the fact that they are getting sicker and sicker as they age, the cost toward the state that
these prisoners require will continue to grow as

Taking a Look at the Tertiary Period
The Tertiary Period began 65 million years ago and ended just 1.8 million years ago. It was made
up of 5 different epochs. Paleocene epoch that was 65 to 54 million years ago. Eocene epoch that
was 54 to 38 million years ago. Oligocene epoch 38 to 24 million years ago. Miocene epoch 24 to 5
million years ago. Pliocene epoch 5 to 1.8 million years ago.
Tertiary is the third era. During the Tertiary period placement of the continents were different than
were they are located today. There were only the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and the Indian
Ocean. Continents were North America, Greenland, northern Europe, Asia, and Iberia. Climate
change from the beginning to end was very significant. During the beginning the earth was warm
and moist compared to the weather now. By the middle of the period earth started to cool. This
was cause by volcanoes that kept giving off carbon dioxide. After a while by the end of this
period it was so cold that the last ice age had started. However this had to be the most important
time period for mammals. The time period before Tertiary which was the Cretaceousperiod. The
Cretaceous period ended with the extinction of dinosaurs, large reptiles, and many different others.
After all the extinction of the other animals mammals became the dominant species on Earth. This
is why the Tertiary Period is called the age of mammals. There are to unusual mammals that we

E Commerce And The Distribution And Retail Levels Since...
It is very much true and not a faction that the increased utilization of eMarketing/ mMarketing is
accelerating the elimination of resellers at both the distribution and retail levels since internet has a
great power and created a revaluation which to drastically altered and change the equilibrium of
influence between consumers, retailers, distributors, manufacturers and service providers; where
some win or gain and some lose (Hollensen, 2013).
The e commerce in many industries added more pressure to the physical distributors and dealers
of goods and services since it became more user friendly and convenient to order these goods and
services online from various resources while comparing the prices at the same time.
On the same issue the disintermediation process, led to some channel conflict or rate parity issues
(Hollensen, 2013). In the hospitality industry with the elimination of some traditional booking
channels such as travel agencies as well as Consortia, and Mega wholesaler as the traditional
physical distributor or Third Party Intermediaries (TPI) to the room booking, new types of
intermediaries emerged which is called online Travel agencies OTA or Opaque Channels.
I have bowered Hollensen Figure 16.8 Disintermediation and reintermediation to show the changes
to the industry in the past decades (Hollensen, 2013, p. 588).

As a result, an increasing number of vehicles have sound proof design and acoustic surrounding
systems. However, when those in car appliances operate simultaneously, it can be difficult for
drivers to detect the approach of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police, and fire fighting
trucks. This is one of the reasons why most accidents between emergency vehicles and motorists
happen at intersections [1]. Those collisions impede the emergency service travels from reaching
the destinations on time. In the United States, it is claimed that the most frequent emergency
service cases were about emergency vehicle crashes and patient handing mishaps [2].
Even though the emergency vehicles have implemented visual device, the visual warning
mechanism cannot take effect if the receivers are not facing towards the vehicle. Many collision
incidents indicate that drivers did not recognize the coming emergency vehicles with flashing
lights and they delayed the reflection of clearing roads in urban area [3]. It is not constrained to
elderly or hearing impaired drivers. Therefore, the audible warning siren is important to prevent
collisions which are caused by drivers not responding to the sign of warning from emergency travel.
Due to the improvement of in car sound control design mentioned above, the siren can be difficult
to penetrate into the cabin of a vehicle when the distance is greater than 8 12 m [4]. Tests were
conducted to improve the audibility

Speech On The Role Of A King
The role of a king is to be Kingly. In doing such he must be influential and have personal integrity,
be calm and balanced, be able to protect and maintain order, be hard working and energetic,
bless and acknowledging the efforts of other people, to teach and deliver his wisdom, to show
no fear in the face of adversity, and to be well spoken and deliver speeches. Being well spoken
has many different meanings to different cultures around the world, but as a king... one must be
able to articulate words, have passion and purpose, have a good personality, be creative, have an
expressive voice, and a sense of humor, have a decent wardrobe, and be a good story teller. Just
having good posture isn t enough. When addressing the nation a king has a job of energizing his
audience by any means necessary to help in the delivery of their message. Their main goal is to
produce something special for their audience, or rather their peoples . Convincing them that what
they have to say is more important than anything they ve heard and that it is different than all the
rest of his predecessors. Kings create their own distinctive view of reality for an immense and
diverse listening, and sometimes viewing, audience. In almost every situation a king speaks to the
world. However; most of the time posture or facial expression were not even of importance to
royalty in this era because they delivered speeches over radio waves. Memorization was not of
importance in this situation either because no

Difference Between Tyll And CALL
Students require a methodology different from the traditional lecture method in which the teacher
is at the center and dominates the session. Now learner centered and active participation is
preferred to traditional lecture method. The trend of learning language through computers allows
this to the students. This is what we call CALL (ComputerAssisted LanguageLearning). This paper
addresses CALL and Text book Assisted Language Learning. I have taken this as TALL. In these
two major terms CALL and TALL, I ve taken the two major areas for comparison. They are i. Role
of Teachers ii. Developing LSRW skills
1. Role of Teachers: Though CALL is learner centered, we can t eliminate teachers. The role of
teacher in CALL is essential as much as in TALL. More over teacher of CALL should be well

even if the chat is purely textual. The use of videoconferencing gives not only immediacy when

Planning Your Kid s Party
Planning your kid s birthday party can be a lot of fun. Kids birthday games form a major part of
this planning. They not only make a party memorable, but also serve as ice breakers for those
shy kids who might not know the others in the room. Here s a list of some fun party games which
are sure to make your kid s party a success. And what s more, they re quite economical too!
1. Pass the hurdle
You ll be amazed to find out that kids love to compete with each other. One of the best ways to
add some zing to your child s birthday party is to organise your own Common Wealth Games!
Place some hurdles across the room or the garden. Hula hoops, small stools, cushions, etc can be
a part of the hurdles. The kid who crosses the hurdles and reaches the finish line first is the
winner. Award him a gold medal (a chocolate disc wrapped in gold foil). You can similarly award
the silver and bronze winner too.
Tip: Make sure the hurdles are of the right size and height for the age group of your guests. Avoid
using objects for hurdles that have sharp edges. 2. Bite em off
Get fruity with your next game. Buy small apples or pear with stems basically enough fruit so that
each child has one. Before the party begins, tie a string to all the fruits. Now string them up to
objects so that the fruit dangles. Every child has to stand under the fruit and try to take a bite out
of it without using his or her hand. It may seem like an easy game, but soon the kids will realise

ability to grow and reach its full economic potential. The Scottish government suggests that the
purpose of the green belt is to, direct growth to the most appropriate locations and support
regeneration to protect and give access to open space within and around towns and cities.
However, as Edinburgh remains the UK s largest financial centre outside of London and has an
increasingly large population, the demand for property within the city is high. Edinburgh s
shortage of property has driven up prices to unaffordable levels. To tackle this issue, the city should
be regenerating brownfield sites to produce affordable property that could house the growing
population. However, if Edinburgh s economic growth continues, and planning permission is
granted, it looks likely that the green belt will be expanding, less emphasis will be put on local
communities and Edinburgh s surrounding countryside could disappear for

Nevada Eye Clinic Case
Good afternoon,
I have been put in charge of reviewing the marketing material to insure that it is in line with the
direction we are heading with the re branding of Nevada Eye and Ear to Nevada Eye Physicians. I
have been reviewing multiple aspects of the process including; the time parameters, outbound
marketing materials and the progress of the website included below is an itemized list of
recommendations for everyone to consider and decide upon. In my opinion all of these
recommendations are in the best interest of the brand and the company.
1.)Mini Pocket Folder
The mini pocket folder is up for final approval, we have submitted minor revisions to the copy
which Jan has updated. You will find a PDF copy of the most recent and hopefully... Show more

The only major point that does need to be decided upon is the name, phone number and email we
will list on the Media Release as the contact. Please keep in mind that this person will be subject to
contact by anyone that reads the article.
5.)Delay the brand release date
The final item up for discussion is the date of going live with the rebrand. I have had discussion
with Jan, Michelle, and Judy as to the status of several key materials needed to facilitate a
successful launch of the new brand. The original date we had discussed was Feb. 29th, after
speaking with Jan in regards to the media release I am proposing that we change the Brand
release date to Tuesday, March 8th. Delaying the release by a 8 days would allow us to insure all
key materials have been produced and are in house. Also in speaking with Jan s contact for the
Media Release, he recommended having the release go out on a Tuesday as it is accepted better
by all parties involved. Again this is my recommendation and is up for debate among the group.
Please feel review all items above and contact me with any questions regarding the content. Please
reply all to the email with any suggestions or input on the matters at hand so all can review them.

Essay on Ikea Case Analysis
Jamie Richardson BUSN204 21 March 2013 Ikea Case Analysis IKEA was truly built from the
ground up. It was started in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad when he was 17 years old, from a shed on
the family farm. In the beginning, the company sold fish, Christmas magazines, and seeds to
eventually add pens, then furniture to its product list. In the beginning the company had used the
milk truck as part of its delivery system to get orders to the train station. In 1953 when the milk
truck changed it route, it was no longer available to get items to the train station. This motivated
Ingvar to invest in a nearby idle factory and convert it into a warehouse. By this time, with the help

IKEA had to start designing more of its furniture in house and found a manufacturer who would
produce IKEA designed furniture. In this process, the manufacturer was in Poland where they
found it is 50% cheaper than to manufacture in Sweden, allowing him to cut prices even more.
Here the furniture industry continued to evolve with new technology and cost savings. In 1958,
IKEA had opened its first store on site of the first warehouse in Almhult. This was done to
supplement the mail order business; it was to be a place where customers could come to see the
furniture set up. This went well; the business even started selling storage containers for car roofs
in order for customers to take home their purchases. Ingvar realized that Almhult was a good
drive for many of its customers so he decided to put in a restaurant so they could relax and
refuel. This was a hit and became an integral feature of all IKEA stores. Competitors argued that
IKEA products were low quality, which was quickly diminished when the furniture was tested for
quality by a Swedish design laboratory. The laboratory not only stated that IKEA s quality was
good, but maybe better than that of other Swedish furniture manufacturers with prices much lower.
Due to this publicity, sales took off, being as it was now acceptable in middle class households.

Institutional Treatment For Psychiatric Disorders
The Olmstead case began in 1995 with two women, Lois Curtis and Elaine Wilson who had
developmental disabilities and a history of institutional treatment for psychiatric disorders. They
were voluntarily admitted at different times, to a secure unit of Georgia Regional Hospital to
stabilize and administer to their immediate needs, then continued treatment on an out patient basis
which was the normal course of action for this hospital. Through clinical assessments, the treating
physicians determined that each woman was able to receive appropriate supports and services in a
less restrictive, community based setting. The hospital administrators moved Lois and Elaine to a
state run institution, and refused them placement in a community setting, apparently due to a lack
of state funding to make this transition possible. (https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/98

Lois, later joined by Elaine, filed a lawsuit in District Court in Northern District of Georgia,
claiming that the State violated Title II of the ADA, which prohibits subjecting an individual with a
disability to discrimination by reason of the disability, and the integration regulation, which seeks to
eliminate segregating people with disabilities. Title II also stipulates that individuals must be placed
in the least restrictive, integrated setting to meet their needs, when professionals working with the
individual establish that such a placement is appropriate. Lois and Elaine were both assessed and it

The War Of The United States Army
Many stories are told throughout history with a flourish and twinkle in the eye. From tales of the
Roman Empire and its long suffering fall to revolutions sparked around the globe that ignite a sense
of patriotism and independence in its citizens, from France to Vietnam. A story that is passed down
from generation to generation, though, is the story of the Screaming Eagles, or the 101st Airborne
Division of the United States Army, and no other time is more ripe for storytelling about these
brave men, these Band of Brothersfrom the 506th Infantry Regiment, than World War II. From
simple beginnings in western Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia and New York and Arkansas, to
training camp in Georgia, we hear the stories of desperately young men transformed by war, by
death and destruction and small pieces of glittering hope, and we laud their bravery, their sacrifice,
and their determination. Who exactly are these Band of Brothers, and what did they do that
contributed so heavily to their god like status then and now? From Camp Toccoa in Georgia to the
beaches of Normandy, the bitterly cold forests of Belgium, the small towns of Amsterdam, and
finally to the heartland of the Third Reich, these raucous, courageous, honorable men shaped each
part of the war they attended, and their legacy lives on through story and media today.

Skipping Meals On A Daily Basis
To begin with, since I came to Saint Leo University I have been skipping meals on a daily basis.
It s not because I want to but it s because my schedule is busy on a daily basis. However, when I
do get the chance to eat lunch I take advantage of it. Then when I m really busy I usually grab a
yogurt to eat on the go or even a sandwich I can snack on. But, with me skipping meals on a daily
basis is very unhealthy and I m making progress by making improvements with my eatinghabits.
Firstly, I began by creating a smart goal and used it motivation to help decrease the amount of
time I skip meals. I started eating breakfast in the dining hall or either in my dorm. I usually eat
breakfast at 7:30 am or it varies depending on my schedule. For breakfast, I usually eat cereal, oats,
or French toast and sometimes an English muffin. I stay away from the baconbecause pork bacon is
too oily and I like turkey bacon more. Sometimes, I would eat the original and strawberry low fat
yogurt mixed with granola crumbs. Other than breakfast, sometimes I would eat lunchwhen my
schedule is less hectic. Normally, Monday s and Friday s is the two days that I defiantly eat
lunch. This is because on Monday s I don t have work in the afternoon, so I m free from
12:20pm and on Friday s I leave campus to go home. When I do eat lunch, I usually have small
portions of rice, or macaroni with chicken breast or chicken wings. The chicken is normally baked
or stewed. Also, sometimes I would have a salad

Seidman On Heterosexuality
Heterosexuality is a modern invention means that it is a manmade concept, and it is only recently
that heterosexuality was constituted by defining homosexual desires/identity as the deviant desires
/identity, thereby normalizing the heterosexual desires/identity as the normal and proper sex desire
(Seidman, 2003). Heterosexuality has been socially constructed, because what it means to be
heterosexual is different across the time: the contemporary definition of heterosexuality is linked
with the identity, but the nineteenth century definition of heterosexuality indicated a reproductive
drive or behavior (Seidman, 2005; 46). Seidman elaborates that the heterosexuality only became an
identity, because societal changes that took place in

The Sport Of The Basketball Player Essay
I absolutely love to spend hours on top of hours throwing spherical objects into a raised hoop
possessing an 18 inch diameter, only to retrieve said object, force it to the ground repeatedly,
and throw it at the hoop once again. To someone dumbfounded by the idea of the previous
sentence, this activity is quite bizarre and pointless, but to someone like me, it s a lifestyle. It s
tradition. It s second nature. Being a black, Metro Detroit child of born of two parents who were
both from inner cities, one could guess that the laws of this world destined me to invest the
majority of my young life into one of the world s many sports, most likely basketballor football.
Although one would be stereotyping, one would be right. For the first 17 years of my being, I
lived and breathed the sport of basketball; I knew the rules of the game, I knew the rules of the
court, and I knew what it takes to be a respected basketball player. Now that I ve unofficially
hung up my jersey and stepped away from the game (for the now at least!), I ve had the chance
to take a step back and truly contemplate the overall essence of the sport of basketball in America,
more specifically friendly pick up games. Every game, from card games to Olympic sports, have
their own set of rules, but they aren t all approached with the same underlying attitude. Why is
there an overall mood of intensity and toughness during pick up games which have such low

Essay about The Awakening by Edna Pontellier
The Awakening by Edna Pontellier
The Awakening by Kate Chopin introduces the reader to the life of Edna Pontellier, a woman with
an independent nature searching for her true identity in a patriarchal society that expects women to
be nothing more than devoted wives and nurturing mothers.
The Awakening begins in the vacation spot of Grand Isle. At first we believe that Grand Isle is a
utopia, wealthy families relaxing at oceanside, but it is here where Edna first begins to realize her
unhappiness. The first sign of dissatisfaction is when Edna allows herself to feel that her marriage is
unsatisfying, yet she must agree with the other women that Leonce Pontellier is the perfect
husband. Edna asks herself that if she has a good husband ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

many steps towards independence. She stops holding Tuesday socials , she sends her children to
live in the country with their grandparents, she refuses to travel abroad with her husband, she
moves out of the Lebrun house on Esplanade Street, and to earn money, she starts selling her
sketches and betting the horses. She also starts a relationship with another man Alcee Arobin. He
meant nothing to her emotionally but she used him for sexual pleasure. Edna evolved above her
peers she did not believe that sexuality and motherhood had to be linked. The last step of her
awakening is the realization that she can not fulfill her life in a society that will not allow her to be
a person and a mother. Edna commits suicide in the ocean at Grand Isle.
She married Leonce not because she loved him but because she could not refuse his admiration and
persistence. This marriage thrusts Edna into a foreign culture. She questions her role as a mother
because she is different from the typical Creole mother woman. Edna defies the central perception
that women are mothers first

Real Life Influences In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
East of Eden is a novel with many real life influences. One of the biggest influences in East of
Eden is religion, it parallels stories from the bible and it is the inspiration for some of the
characters. It also works to help illustrate an important life lesson that is the ultimate goal of the
novel. FFFFFFFFFFFF To truly understand the religious themes and influences in the book, it is
best to see how religion played into the author John Steinbeck s life. John Steinbeck was born in
the Salinas Valley of California (which is where narrator of the novel is born). He was born to

Gender Differences In Inglehart s And Norris

diminishing as women take on more active roles among the younger generations in affluent, post

The piece compares patterns of traditional political activism as well as protest politics (such as
demonstrations, petitions, strikes and boycotts). From all these aspects, it is implied that the rising
tide in gender equality transforming aspects of both men and women s lives in the public sphere
women usually remain less politically active in most nations, contrary to expectations. The gender
gap is still consistently evident across many facets of civic life, even in post industrial societies.

The History Of Musicals On Stage Is Broad And Extensive. There
The history of musicals on stage is broad and extensive. There are many different histories of stage
musicals: French operettas, Grecian plays, and Roman comedies are just a few. However, I am
going to focus on American musicals. The musical that many Americans are familiar with has its
roots in the French and Viennese operettas of the 1800s, but take their comic style from American
Variety and Minstrel Shows, which led to Vaudeville and Burlesque shows. Known to be the first
American musical, The Black Crook , produced in 1866, proved how profitable the musical theater
could be in the United States. After that the American musical really burst forth, with full length

The movie Singing in the Rain (1952) even offered a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the
late 1920s where the focus was on the transition from silent films to talkies . From the beginning,
audiences embraced screen musicals with tremendous enthusiasm, with The Jazz Singer (1927)
bringing in a slew of newcomer audiences as well as the usual stage musical goers. Even though
the stock market crash of 1929 caused almost a third of movies theaters in the U.S. to shut down,
the industry survived (but barely), because the public would use the few pennies they had to go
see a film that would make them forget the Depression for an hour and a half. Because of this,
film musicals attempted to provide happy and uplifting types of musicals, but they were not
extremely successful. Fast forward to 1933, when the Warner Bros. Studios gave audiences
dance infused musicals, including Forty Second Street , where Busby Berkeley took his
reputation and experience as a dance director for several Broadway shows and helped rebuild
film musicals rapport. Due to the fact that, in the 1940s, America was fully focused on World War
II in one way or another, Yankee Doodle Dandy was produced in 1942 by Warner Bros. Studios,
and was a musical biography of George M. Cohan, The Man Who Owned Broadway . This musical

Despite receiving six feet of rainfall each year, most of the nation s water is highly
contaminated. In fact, thousands are killed each year due to water contamination, many of
whom are children. At the same time, most of the citizens of the nation cannot afford bottled
water. After the twelve year civil war destroyed much of the country s infrastructure, poor areas
became even poorer. Homes and water sources had been destroyed by militia during the war.
After returning home, some citizens chose to hand dig wells in order to obtain drinking water.
However, many others went to their nearest stream, river or pond to collect water. These unsafe
and contaminated water sources caused many people to become ill with intestinal diseases.
According to Ricardo Navarro, El Salvador s government has failed to protect its most precious
resource: Farmers have cut down forests that used to store rain water. Ranchers have allowed
their livestock to pollute rivers. Communities have put latrines too close to shallow wells. Others,
such as Marisol Prima Ponza, who runs a government dispensary that tracks the health of 375

The central role of enzymes is to function as biological catalysts. Since the fundamental tasks of a

I learned that employers would hire native born workers over immigrants workers, except none
of them actually apply for the job. They are ashamed of the job, because the low level job has a
status about it and is called an immigrant job. This taking away the argument that natives can t
get entry level jobs due to immigrants in high populated areas. So, the Natives are just unwilling
to do the entry level jobs, because of status and low wages. The weak point is the fact that entry
level jobs are a great way to get easy level experience. The strong point of this article, is when it
talks about employers feeling immigrants are best suited or most appropriate for entry level jobs,
this being said, the employers have a stronger desire to hire the immigrants over the natives. The
weak point is the fact that entry level jobs are a great way to get easy level experience, though it

argument.
The effects of immigrations to the urban culture of America had numerous outcomes, whether
immigrants effected the crime rates, whether they reduced support for social policies such as

proved that immigrants have little to no effect on crime rates. They proved that they don t create a

Symptoms And Treatment Of Crohn s Disease Essay
Crohn s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that is characterized by inflammation of
the digestive, or gastrointestinal tract. It can affect any part of the GI tract, including the mouth
and anus. However, Crohn s most often affects the end of the small intestine (Crohn s Colitis,
2016). Crohn s disease does not have a cure and there is no exact cause for the occurring disease.
Since the exact cause of Crohn s disease is unknown, it has been linked to a combination of
environmental factors, immune function and bacterial factors, as well as a patient s genetic
susceptibility to developing the disease (History Cooperative, 2014). Lauren Page is 28 years
old. She was diagnosed with Crohn s disease when she was 24 going on 25 years old and was
hospitalized during her birthday week. Her breaking point was when she could not take the pain
any longer. Lauren had a fever of 104.5 and unbearable abdomen pain. She had also contracted
an infection in her bloodstream from developing a fistula from her vagina to her rectum. They
luckily were able to do surgery to correct her fistula. She had a multitude of tests including: blood
work, stool samples, CT scans, MRI, X rays, a balloon test, endoscopy and countless

began working at a printing house owned by Jose Trinidad Pedroza.
From him, he learned the techniques of printmaking and lithography.
He soon shifted his artistic abilities to create illustrations that displayed the idea of political satire.
This resulted from a flood striking where he had lived causing him to move to Mexico City, where

Narcissistic Personality Disorder Case Study
Narcissistic personality disorder commonly begins in early adulthood. The disorder is diagnosed
by a looking for patterns of self centered behavior, constant need for admiration, a need to be seen
as special/superior, negative or volatile responses to criticism, a lack of empathy, and difficulty
forming meaningful relationships. These traits must be persistent, inflexible, and maladaptive
which cause functional impairment and distress in order for a person to be diagnosed. The traits
of the disorder are highly prevalent in adolescents, however they are not classified as actually
having the disorder because the traits are not debilitating. The disorder is not very prevalent,
showing up in only 0 6.2% of the community samples taken in 2010. Out... Show more content on

Psychodynamically the attachment theory is the reason for the disorder. In one case lack of
parenting during the development years, meaning no recognition or regulation of a child s
emotions, leads to attachment issues. The patient will be avoidant of meaningful relationships but
constantly seeking attention from others. An alternative scenario is the parents overindulging the
child growing up, causing the patient to require being the center of attention while also receiving
constant positive reinforcement. Another instance is if the family places an emphasis on social
status and success throughout the child s life, the constant reinforcement during development
causing an obsession with perfection later in life. From a socio cultural standpoint narcissistic
personality disorder may stem an increasingly narcissistic society. Media, song lyrics, and
advertisements are all increasingly focused on being the subject being perfect and showing off
one s amazing lifestyle. Social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter are growing more
and more popular and are apps dedicated to allowing an individual to show off the best parts of his

The Competition Into The Dynamics Of Political Affiliation...
For the two final replications, BIRG is studied beyond competition between teams in a sporting
context. The first study to be discussed carries competition into the dynamics of political affiliation
during national elections (Boen et al., 2002), and the last study going further by considering peer
relationships and affiliative identity (J. K. Dijkstra et al., 2010).
Political affiliations. Boen et al. (2002) followed Cialdini et al. s (1976) first method to observe
BIRG: establishing affiliation using emblems and representative symbols. In the study (conducted
during election period), the researchers counted the number of households that displayed posters or
removable lawn signs that convey support for a political party; these field observations were
conducted two days prior to and one day after the election date.
The number of positions won in Belgium s government was based on the total number of votes that
each party has received; as a consequence, party supporters reacted differently based on the relative
win loss percentages for each party. Citizens who associated themselves with parties that eventually
suffered great losses in the elections immediately removed any election materials that announced
their connection with the party. Conversely, those associated with parties that won significantly
retained the display of their materials for longer durations. In some cases, previously unmarked
households (i.e. did not announce their affiliation) began to display posters

Difference Between Sleep Drive And The Circadian Alerting...
Sleep is a complex phenomenon, best understood as the product of two intertwined biological
systems : the sleep drive and the circadian alerting system. The sleep drive is our biological need
for sleep. The sleep drive can be thought of as a tank that empties and fills throughout the course
of a day, like the gas tank in a car. When you sleep at night, the tank is filled with sleep. You
awaken in the morning, refueled and ready to drive through the day. The longer you drive
through the day, the more the tank depletes. By bedtime, the tank is on E ; it is empty and you
must sleep to replenish it. The sleep drive forces sleep, so that your tank can be refilled, and your
biological sleep need is met. The circadian alerting system

Dish Strategic Management
Introduction
If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. Many people commonly use this phrase and in a business,
this phrase couldn t be truer. Having a plan is crucial, but just having a plan will not due. This is
where strategic management comes in. Many businesses use strategic management and in this
paper we will use the company Dish as our example. Strategic management involves both the
formulation and implementation of a plan. Implementation is an essential part of the strategic
planning process because having a plan without actually putting it into action is pointless. The
successful implementation of the strategic management plan in a large corporation like Dish is
highly reliant on measurement and evaluation efforts during and after the implementation phase.
In this essay, I will review strategies Dish used that were not successful as well as ones that were.
I will also discuss barriers that might have interfered with the success of some strategies and the
type of strategic evaluation efforts I think are necessary to keep an eye on progress. Finally, I will
talk about how measurement of implementation processes and the evaluation process helps assure
future success for Dish.

According to an article in the Federal Trade Commission, Dish had customers who wanted to be
removed from Dish s calling list, but they were not, even though they had been told they had
been removed. Dish continued to call them and some of these customers got fed up and took
this case to court. In this case, a federal judge in Illinios deemed Dish Network liable for
57,606,609 illegal telemarketing calls (Fair, 2015). A case like this leaves a company with a bad
mark and ruins their reputation. Dish is now known by some people, as a company who hounds and

Advantages Of Montessori Method
Throughout this essay, I will be comparing and contrasting many aspects of the Montessori
Method and the High/Scope Approach developed by Dr. David Weikart. I will first discuss a
brief history of each pedagogy, then compare both on certain aspects I find to be similar and
different. I will discuss the views of each on the senses, the learning environment, the freedom and
child led philosophy, the need for order, KDI s and sensitive periods, reflection and aspects of the
daily routine in each setting, with particular emphasis on Montessori s outdoor setting. Dr. Maria
Montessori was an Italian educator and scientist. She developed a revolutionary approach to
education in children. Montessori was the first female in Italy to obtain a medical... Show more

To capture and build on children s natural enthusiasms, adults put themselves in children s hands
as often as possible. They follow the children s directions . (Hohmann et al 1995 p.53). When it
comes to the similarities between the High/Scope planned learning environment and Montessori
s prepared environment, one thing I observe is the sense of order ...The little child s need for
order is one of the most powerful incentives to dominate his early life . (Montessori, 1949, p.
190), and providing the child the opportunity to make choices and decisions; for this particularly
plays a large role in Montessori s philosophy. ...The child should be allowed to exercise himself
freely in the work organised for him . (Montessori 1915, p. 51). High/Scope activities are focused
around Key Development Indicators (KDI s). These KDI s are similar to the likes of Aistear. They
are a sequence of statements describing key development experiences and are used by educators to
assist them in observing, arranging, and evaluating what children learn as they partake in activities.
For example, in my work placement they go exactly by Aistear recommended activities, so they can
be sure to meet all their principles and themes with the children (Identity Belonging, Exploring
Thinking, Communicating and Well being). Montessori, however, focuses more on sensitive
periods. Throughout these periods, the child has a particularly strong sensitivity towards a specific
piece of information or ability. The sensitivity lasts for a definite period and will not

Chinese Cinderella Courage Quotes
Though mine is a simple, personal tale of the journey of one unloved little Chinese girl growing
up in Shanghai and Hong Kong, please do not underestimate the power of such stories. In one
way or another, every one of us has been shaped by the stories we have read and absorbed in the
past. (Yen Mah xi) All of Adeline s life she was fighting a never ending war when all she wanted
to do was succeed. In the memoir, Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah
, Adeline lives a harsh
life of many ups and downs. In order to succeed in her cruel life, it required Adeline to have
courage. She compares herself to Mulan because she too, was a warrior and fought many battles
which took great courage.
Adeline is very much like Mulan, the Chinese female warrior. ... Show more content on

I knew I should remain silent but words choked me and I felt compelled to spit them out (Yen
Mah 34). Adeline was extremely brave stand up to Niang for Little Sister and if Little Sister
would have been aware of what Adeline had just done for her, she probably would ve been a lot
nicer to Adeline. All the adults just stood there avoiding eye contact with Niang as she beat her
own daughter and it was Adeline, who was in first grade at the time, that stuck up for her. It was
defeat. Ye Ye had given up (Yen Mah 149). Niang was a very frightful person. She brought terror to
the entire family and even Ye Ye, who used to be head of the family, but was overthrown by
Niang, did not question her. Ye Ye s defeat was very sad to Adeline because he meant so much
turn and in return, she used her courage and bravery to stick up for Ye Ye and to never be disloyal
no matter what the consequences were. All in all, Adeline was very brave and

Animal Farm Power Of Language
Animal Farm Essay
The novel Animal Farm was created by George Orwell in 1945. It was a story on how animals
rebelled against the humans and tried to live freely, but a main point in the novel was about the
power of language. Orwell shows in his book that the power of language can make characters act
differently. Some of the animals use the power of language for evil things while others did not.
George Orwell demonstrates the power of language in his book, Animal Farm, by using it
manipulatively on different characters.
Orwell demonstrates the power of language using Napoleon. Napoleon is portrayed in the book by
intimidating other animals, slaughtering animals and by being a sloth. Napoleon uses the English
language to mesmerize and gain power in Animal Farm. Snowball which only wanted the best for

power of language to keep Napoleon in the role of leader and to ensure that the pigs have control
of the farm. Comrades! he cried. `You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a
spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples.... The whole
management and organisation of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over
your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples. Squealer was sent by
Napoleon to explain to the animals why the pigs drink milk and eat apples. Comrades, he said, I
trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking
this extra labour upon himself.... Snowball, who, as we now know, was no better than a criminal?

  • 2. Jasper John s 1983 Artwork Of Racing Thoughts And Byron... Jasper John s 1983 artwork of Racing Thoughts and Byron Kim s 1991 Synecdoche are both in the exhibited as part of the Whitney Museum s: Human Interest: Portraits from the Whitney Collection. Applying encaustic process, which is known as a hot wax painting, Jasper John created this screen print with wax crayon on collaged cotton and linen. Jasper John describes this piece as a series of images that ran through his mindwhile he was lying in the bathtub. He included items he saw around the room and things he was thinking about. Some of the elements in this piece are his hanging khaki pants, the running faucet, a nail on the wall, a dirty window, a vase and a decorative piece on a piece of furniture. Until you read the artist s description it is difficult to tell that the white smear of paint is, evoking a feeling of disorientation. His arrangement of his images is seemingly affixed to the faux wood grain background with trompe l oeil tape, thumbtacks, and a protruding nail. The scale of images in Jasper s Racing Thoughts appears to be scaled to real life. The texture of the painting evokes feeling of an antique surrounding like a bathroom in a third world country. In addition, the colors and patterns in this painting, display how he is a person with many things going through his mind at the same time with unorganized thoughts. A panel of Byron Kim s, 1991, Synecdoche is displayed in the Whitney Museum one section out of a four hundred panel ongoing project depicting the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Webster believed the issue of slavery was settled long ago, when the regions were divided into slave and free states, and he also believed an agreement could be reached between the pro slavery positions in the south and anti slavery position in the north. Comparatively, Calhoun and Webster both saw the union was in danger of falling apart, they also both believed the issues of slavery between the north and the south was the major cause. Where they disagreed was on the future state of slavery. Calhoun saw the compromise as a betrayal of the south; he sought to have the northerners agree to the protection of slavery in the south so the south would remain in the union. Calhoun knew slavery pre existed and believed it must continue to exist. Webster was more of a pacifist, he pleaded with the northerners to accept demands of the south in order to save the union, even though he did not accept the fact slavery needed to continue. Webster deeply believed that preservation of the union was more important than any other issue. In addition, William Henry Seward also opposed the proposed compromise. The Effect Of Heavy Metals On Groundwater Shereen Bahadori Toolabi Literature Review Assignment The Effect Heavy Metals has on Groundwater Introduction Water is a major resource human s need for survival. As an important part of Earth s water, groundwater is an indispensable resource for the development of the global social economy and people s lives (He rong, et. al., 2015). It is very much true and not a faction that the increased utilization of eMarketing/ mMarketing is accelerating the elimination of resellers at both the distribution and retail levels since internet has a great power and created a revaluation which to drastically altered and change the equilibrium of influence between consumers, retailers, distributors, manufacturers and service providers; where some win or gain and some lose (Hollensen, 2013). The e commerce in many industries added more pressure to the physical distributors and dealers of goods and services since it became more user friendly and convenient to order these goods and services online from various resources while comparing the prices at the same time. However, when those in car appliances operate simultaneously, it can be difficult for drivers to detect the approach of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police, and fire fighting trucks. Just having good posture isn t enough. When addressing the nation a king has a job of energizing his audience by any means necessary to help in the delivery of their message. Their main goal is to produce something special for their audience, or rather their peoples . Convincing them that what they have to say is more important than anything they ve heard and that it is different than all the rest of his predecessors. Kings create their own distinctive view of reality for an immense and diverse listening, and sometimes viewing, audience. In almost every situation a king speaks to the world. They not only make a party memorable, but also serve as ice breakers for those shy kids who might not know the others in the room. Here s a list of some fun party games which are sure to make your kid s party a success. And what s more, they re quite economical too! 1. Pass the hurdle You ll be amazed to find out that kids love to compete with each other. One of the best ways to add some zing to your child s birthday party is to organise your own Common Wealth Games! Place some hurdles across the room or the garden. Hula hoops, small stools, cushions, etc can be a part of the hurdles. The kid who crosses the hurdles and reaches the finish line first is the winner. Award him a gold medal (a chocolate disc wrapped in gold foil). You can similarly award the silver and bronze winner too. Tip: Make sure the hurdles are of the right size and height for the age group of your guests. Avoid using objects for hurdles that have sharp edges. 2. Bite em off Get fruity with your next game. Buy small apples or pear with stems basically enough fruit so that each child has one. Before the party begins, tie a string to all the fruits. Now string them up to objects so that the fruit dangles. Every child has to stand under the fruit and try to take a bite out of it without using his or her hand. The essay will begin by explaining the main definitions involved in the essay question. The first section will review Edinburgh and Scotland s green belt policies. The second section will discuss Edinburgh s growing populationand the need for property within the area. The third section will focus on the growing business sector of the capital city. And the last section will talk about Edinburgh s expanding green belt and recent developments. Edinburgh; a city famous for its striking architecture and backdrop shaped by geology, was once a small city consisting of no more than a narrow street that linked Holyrood palace with Edinburgh castle. The Scottish government suggests that the purpose of the green belt is to, direct growth to the most appropriate locations and support regeneration to protect and give access to open space within and around towns and cities. However, as Edinburgh remains the UK s largest financial centre outside of London and has an increasingly large population, the demand for property within the city is high. Edinburgh s shortage of property has driven up prices to unaffordable levels. To tackle this issue, the city should be regenerating brownfield sites to produce affordable property that could house the growing population. However, if Edinburgh s economic growth continues, and planning permission is granted, it looks likely that the green belt will be expanding, less emphasis will be put on local communities and Edinburgh s surrounding countryside could disappear for ... It was started in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad when he was 17 years old, from a shed on the family farm. In the beginning, the company sold fish, Christmas magazines, and seeds to eventually add pens, then furniture to its product list. In the beginning the company had used the milk truck as part of its delivery system to get orders to the train station. In 1953 when the milk truck changed it route, it was no longer available to get items to the train station. This motivated Ingvar to invest in a nearby idle factory and convert it into a warehouse. This was done to supplement the mail order business; it was to be a place where customers could come to see the furniture set up. This went well; the business even started selling storage containers for car roofs in order for customers to take home their purchases. Ingvar realized that Almhult was a good drive for many of its customers so he decided to put in a restaurant so they could relax and refuel. This was a hit and became an integral feature of all IKEA stores. Competitors argued that IKEA products were low quality, which was quickly diminished when the furniture was tested for quality by a Swedish design laboratory. The laboratory not only stated that IKEA s quality was good, but maybe better than that of other Swedish furniture manufacturers with prices much lower. Due to this publicity, sales took off, being as it was now acceptable in middle class households. IKEA had opened a store in Stockholm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through clinical assessments, the treating physicians determined that each woman was able to receive appropriate supports and services in a less restrictive, community based setting. The hospital administrators moved Lois and Elaine to a state run institution, and refused them placement in a community setting, apparently due to a lack of state funding to make this transition possible. The musical that many Americans are familiar with has its roots in the French and Viennese operettas of the 1800s, but take their comic style from American Variety and Minstrel Shows, which led to Vaudeville and Burlesque shows. Even though the stock market crash of 1929 caused almost a third of movies theaters in the U.S. to shut down, the industry survived (but barely), because the public would use the few pennies they had to go see a film that would make them forget the Depression for an hour and a half. • 39. How Does Mary Anne Change In The Sweetheart Of The Song... She was dangerous. She was ready for the kill (O Brien 110). These are the last sentences in The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong chapter of Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried. After reading this quote it is hard to imagine that they describe a seventeen year old girl, fresh out of high school. Nonetheless, the description of Mary Anne Bell, a young girl from suburban United States, is accurate. After traveling over an ocean to be back with her high school sweetheart and Vietnamsoldier, Mark Fossie, Mary Anne begins to change. Throughout the entirety of the story, Kiley interjects comments about the transformation Mary Anne has undergone and how others have experienced the same transformation. For example, whenever someone questions the details of the story, Kiley would snap. In one instance, Rat defends Mary Anne s intelligence, but calls her naГЇve. The standalone theories in the start of the article suggest they did increase the crime rate, but with no hard proof. As the article develops deeper, facts and biased opinion come through and display that the immigrants did not affect the crime rate in the early twentieth century. They are ashamed of the job, because the low level job has a status about it and is called an immigrant job. This taking away the argument that natives can t get entry level jobs due to immigrants in high populated areas. So, the Natives are just unwilling to do the entry level jobs, because of status and low wages. The weak point is the fact that entry level jobs are a great way to get easy level experience. The strong point of this article, is when it talks about employers feeling immigrants are best suited or most appropriate for entry level jobs, this being said, the employers have a stronger desire to hire the immigrants over the natives. The weak point is the fact that entry level jobs are a great way to get easy level experience, though it will help the progress of the career journey, it did not correlate well enough to the main point of the argument. The effects of immigrations to the urban culture of America had numerous outcomes, whether immigrants effected the crime rates, whether they reduced support for social policies such as welfare, and whether immigrants affected the career path of native born population. The articles proved that immigrants have little to no effect on crime rates. They proved that they don t create a loss of public support for social policies. The first study to be discussed carries competition into the dynamics of political affiliation during national elections (Boen et al., 2002), and the last study going further by considering peer relationships and affiliative identity (J. K. Dijkstra et al., 2010). Political affiliations. Boen et al. (2002) followed Cialdini et al. s (1976) first method to observe BIRG: establishing affiliation using emblems and representative symbols. In the study (conducted during election period), the researchers counted the number of households that displayed posters or removable lawn signs that convey support for a political party; these field observations were conducted two days prior to and one day after the election date. The number of positions won in Belgium s government was based on the total number of votes that each party has received; as a consequence, party supporters reacted differently based on the relative win loss percentages for each party. Citizens who associated themselves with parties that eventually suffered great losses in the elections immediately removed any election materials that announced their connection with the party. Conversely, those associated with parties that won significantly retained the display of their materials for longer durations. Sleep is a complex phenomenon, best understood as the product of two intertwined biological systems : the sleep drive and the circadian alerting system. The sleep drive is our biological need for sleep. The sleep drive can be thought of as a tank that empties and fills throughout the course of a day, like the gas tank in a car. When you sleep at night, the tank is filled with sleep. You awaken in the morning, refueled and ready to drive through the day. The longer you drive through the day, the more the tank depletes. By bedtime, the tank is on E ; it is empty and you must sleep to replenish it. The sleep drive forces sleep, so that your tank can be refilled, and your biological sleep need is met. Having a plan is crucial, but just having a plan will not due. This is where strategic management comes in. Many businesses use strategic management and in this paper we will use the company Dish as our example. Strategic management involves both the formulation and implementation of a plan. Implementation is an essential part of the strategic planning process because having a plan without actually putting it into action is pointless. The successful implementation of the strategic management plan in a large corporation like Dish is highly reliant on measurement and evaluation efforts during and after the implementation phase. In this essay, I will review strategies Dish used that were not successful as well as ones that were. I will also discuss barriers that might have interfered with the success of some strategies and the type of strategic evaluation efforts I think are necessary to keep an eye on progress. For example, in my work placement they go exactly by Aistear recommended activities, so they can be sure to meet all their principles and themes with the children (Identity Belonging, Exploring Thinking, Communicating and Well being). It was a story on how animals rebelled against the humans and tried to live freely, but a main point in the novel was about the power of language. Orwell shows in his book that the power of language can make characters act differently. Some of the animals use the power of language for evil things while others did not. George Orwell demonstrates the power of language in his book, Animal Farm, by using it manipulatively on different characters. Orwell demonstrates the power of language using Napoleon.
