1. The proposal
What would be in the magazine?
My magazine will feature the life of a young, black male artist. The front of
my magazine has my artist standing by the mic, as my magazine is a
grime/UK rap based about the personal life of up coming musicians. this
one features an artist named j blaze. The name of the magazine will be
GRIMEVAl. The name comes from the mixture of grime and medieval in the
sense of grime in a new era. The magazine mainly focuses on one character
that’s why he will be the cover/ focus of the magazine. The front cover will
be one big picture and the artist’s name then little headers on the side in a
different font to the name of the magazine and the artist name.
Formalor in formal
I choose to use informal language, as the audience for this magazine is
mainly teenagers. The style of music, grime actually means dirty and raw
from the streets/ends/bits so I think it would be smart more appropriate
to use informal language because it would be similar to the way the artist
speaks and it’s the type of language the teens understand.
Layout
The layout of my magazine will be elegant yet simple and minimalistic (not
too much going on) as its mainly to promote the artist. The way I see my
cover for GRIMEVAL is, an artist standing up with a golden mic pretending
to rap. The image will be taken at an angle to the left of the artist that way
we can see most of his face and the mic. On my double page spread I will
have an image of j blaze in his pose of choice as this will show more of his
character.
Use of colour
There will be a minimal use of grey and corresponding colours like black
and white but the colour that will dominate is red I will also try gold. I
chose these colours because red is vibrant, black and white is simple and
grey is just appealing so when you put them together it creates a ray of
colours you’d expect from a magazine. I’m thinking of an artist in front of a
white background and using an in-depth of shadow. The image is in mid
shot and the focus is on the artist face. My choice of lighting is to use a
white bright background with a key light centre and a fill light at an angle. I
will use a blue jell as I think it works well against the skin tone of my artist
and it shows a contrast in his image.
