Performance Characterization of In-Memory Data Analytics on a Modern Cloud Se...Ahsan Javed Awan
In last decade, data analytics have rapidly progressed from traditional disk-based processing to modern in-memory processing. However, little effort has been devoted at enhancing performance at micro-architecture level. This paper characterizes the performance of in-memory data analytics using Apache Spark framework. We use a single node NUMA machine and identify the bottlenecks hampering the scalability of work-loads. We also quantify the inefficiencies at micro-architecture level for various data analysis workloads. Through empirical evaluation, we show that spark workloads do not scale linearly beyond twelve threads, due to work time inflation and thread level load imbalance. Further, at the micro-architecture level, we observe memory bound latency to be the major cause of worktime inflation.

Micro-architectural Characterization of Apache Spark on Batch and Stream Proc...Ahsan Javed Awan
Micro-architectural performance is generally consistent between batch and stream processing workloads in Spark if they only differ in micro-batching. DataFrames show improved instruction retirement and reduced stalls compared to RDDs. Higher data velocities can improve CPU utilization and reduce stalls, while increasing bandwidth consumption and instruction retirement. The size of micro-batches in stream workloads determines their micro-architectural behavior.

High engagement strategies like team-based learning, process-oriented guided inquiry learning, and case-based teaching are also outlined. The document aims to help instructors choose strategies that actively involve learners.
10 Practical Strategies for Effective Questioning: 1. Start with the End in Mind 2. Use Open-Ended Questions 3. Sequence Questions Appropriately 4. Encourage Discussion 5. Allow Wait Time
1. Effective learning depends on maintaining student interest and motivation, which are key to their success.
2. Teachers play an important role by being enthusiastic about their subject, creating a pleasant environment, having high expectations, and helping students set goals.
3. It is important to use varied teaching methods like discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to actively engage students in learning.
This document summarizes teaching methodology and provides guidance on effective teaching. It begins by defining teaching as a process of encouraging behavioral change in students. It then distinguishes teaching from training, noting that teaching focuses on imparting knowledge while training develops abilities. The document outlines the purpose and process of teaching, including common teaching methods. It provides qualities of good teaching and guidance on how to teach, including introducing topics, organizing lessons, and assessing students. Overall, the document serves as a guide for educators to understand different aspects of teaching methodology.
Microteaching is a technique used to train teachers that involves teaching a short lesson, typically 5-15 minutes, to a small group of students. The goals are to practice specific teaching skills in a low-risk environment and receive feedback to improve. The key steps are to 1) plan a short lesson focusing on one skill, 2) present the lesson to peers acting as students, and 3) receive feedback on strengths and areas for improvement. Regular practice with feedback through the microteaching cycle helps teachers develop their skills before taking on real classroom teaching.
The document outlines the 4 main steps in curriculum development according to Ralph Tyler: 1) Formation of educational objectives, 2) Selection of learning experiences, 3) Organization of learning experiences, and 4) Evaluation of the curriculum. Educational objectives are statements describing desired changes in student behavior. Learning experiences are deliberately planned situations where students actively participate and change behaviors. Organizing learning experiences considers continuity, sequence, balance, and integration. Curriculum evaluation assesses the philosophy, goals, objectives, content, teaching methods, and relationship to extracurricular activities.
Differentiating Content for Teacher LearningAndrea Tejedor
This document discusses differentiating instruction for teachers based on content, process, products, affect, and learning environment. It identifies three key student characteristics of readiness, interest, and learning profile that influence differentiation. Strategies are provided for differentiating content based on these characteristics, including varying content levels, supplementary materials, re-teaching, using multimedia, examples based on interests, and presenting in multiple modalities.
The document provides guidance on developing student independence and motivation. It emphasizes cultivating intrinsic motivation by fostering student curiosity, passion for learning, and sense of progress. Teachers are advised to plan activities that give students choice and control over their learning. Developing independence requires direct instruction on how to learn as well as opportunities for self-reflection and peer assessment. While confidence is important, students should not feel their ability is fixed or that success is guaranteed without effort.
Professional Development & Accountability in NursingAsokan R
Professional development and accountability are important for teachers. It involves enhancing teachers' knowledge, skills, and practices to improve student learning. Good professional development is long-term, focused on content and skills, collaborative, and transformative by giving teachers new ideas to change their classroom practices. It is important to evaluate professional development for accountability to funders and to ensure knowledge gains are applied and improve student outcomes over time.

How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.
