Analysis Of Pablo Neruda
In most cases, texts that are translated lose meaning, as sometimes words from a native language
cannot be translated exactly into a desired language, or they lose context. World literature
translations also lead to the dangers of a single story where you only get to read one side of the
story (the one of the author) without having a perspective of the natives about the story that was
written. To understand, how language is used in world literature, and how text translations change
our understanding and meaning of the text, we need to be able to understand the culture, have
historical understanding of the time the literary work was written, and factors that might affect
society in which the author had written. When one wants to study world literature, they need to
consider that translations of the text smooths out not only linguisticsrichness but also the original
and political force a work can have in its original context. World literature needs to be studied
with close attention to the original language and context, including works that have new meaning
and take new dimensions abroad. There is a shift that unfolds on the internal logic of the work
itself, but often come as complex dynamic of cultural change and contestation. For a work to be
considered a valuable piece in world literature it must be read first as literature, and secondly
circulate into a broader world beyond linguistic and cultural point of origins. Pablo Neruda s
poems are post colonial responses to

World War 1 Causes
In the late 1800s Otto von Bismarck, the Chancellor of Prussia predicted that some damned
foolish thing in the Balkans would start another war. That is exactly what happened when
Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary visited the Balkans and was shot; this sparked
World War 1. The killing of the Archduke, however, is not the only reason for World War 1.
There were actually four underlying causes that led to World War 1: Militarism, Alliances,
Imperialism, and Nationalism. All four of these causes played their own part in leading to World
War 1 and set off a chain of events that left Europe shaken. Militarism was a underlying factor in
leading to World War 1 because it created competition between countries and caused those countries

The alliances were the triple alliance and the triple entente. The triple alliance consisted of
Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. The triple entente consisted of France, United Kingdom, and
Russia (Document 3). As mentioned before the killing of the Archduke in Serbia sparked the war
because Austria Hungary attacked Serbia due to the killing of their to be ruler. Then Russia starts
to mobilize due to its alliance with Serbia and then Germany declares war on Russia and France to
protect Austria Hungary due to their alliance. Germany wants to get through Belgium to go attack
France but United kingdom has an alliance with them and attacks Germany to protect Belgium.A
public cartoon shows how countries blamed other countries and this also shows how the whole war
unraveled. Austria Hungary is pointing fingers at Serbia while it is pointing their back. Then
Russia can be seen pointing at Germany while Germany points back at Russia. Belgium, Britain,
and France are all also pointing at Germany while Italy stands there with its hands crossed
(Document 4). This whole cartoon shows the alliances of the countries and who blamed

The Causes Of The Tiananmen Square Protest Of 1989
On June 5, 1989, soldiers and tanks from China s People s Liberation Army physically oppressed
the student led protesters. The events surrounding this day are referred to as the Tiananmen Square
Protest of 1989, a democracy movement calling for political and social reforms in the Republic of
China. The deaths that occurred as a consequence of the Tiananmen Square Protest was not the fault
of the students, but rather, the disastrous situation of China beforehand, the common belief that
demonstrations would succeed, and the government s obstinate decisions. China was already
suffering from harsh living conditions prior to the massacre, in which these conditions pushed the
students to act. To begin with, the country had been under intense economic pressure. After
changing into a capitalist based economy, the economy increasing changed due to rising inflation,
declining wages, and rising unemployment rates. To complicate things, the government
deregulated prices of many products. The Chinese feared inflation would occur with the removal
of price controls, and used all their savings to purchase items ahead of time. As a result, the
biggest department store sold two hundred times its usual monthly income. Labour unrest grew,
and between 20 to 30 million were laid off in state enterprises that year. By 1989, people were
ready for political reforms. Even though China s economy was growing, there were strict
limitations on daily aspects of one s life. The rising inflation and

Malaysia in the 1990s
Malaysia in the 1990s: Case Analysis Decision analysis: What is the best strategy for the Malaysian
government moving forward? This decision can only be made after the country s current strategy
and how well it works is analyzed. Adopt the view of the Prime Minister. Consider the character s
strengths, responsibilities, and blind spots. Why is the Prime Minister in this dilemma? 1. Are the
charges of the environmental groups true? Yes. Based on the information in the case, timber
harvesting is out of control, particularly in Sarawak. The rate in which the timber is being harvested
cannot be sustained and eventually will dry up. The Malaysian government recognizes this issue
and the Western interests groups are threatening to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There would be less interest from the US and Europe to invest in Malaysia. There is a divide
between Western Malaysia and Eastern Malaysia. The primary exports to Western countries come
from finished goods out of Western Malaysia, whereas in Eastern Malaysia (Sarawak and Sabah)
they primarily export raw materials to the Eastern world. 4. What is your hypothesis? Decision
options: The Prime Minister has a few choices: * The Malaysian government rejects criticism and
threats of the Western government and environmentalists, making no changes to current policies
but keeping a close eye on fixing some of the problems, particularly in Eastern Malaysia. * The
Malaysian government accepts the criticism of the Western government and environmentalists,
making all necessary changes. * The Malaysia government makes selective changes to policy based
on the criticism of the Western government and environmentalists. Considerations: * Connections
with the US and Europe based on his government s ambitious economic strategy for growth. * The
use of natural resources like the forests, the impact on the country. * The relations with
environmental groups outside Malaysia. * The motive of Western based environmental groups.

Being A Reasonable Thinker
Being a reasonable thinker is a strategy that has benefit me. Working at a church could look like
working at a place that everybody has everything worked out. That is not even close in my
experience. People often thing that because we follow a faith that we will overlook things and
let things go. I had a time when I was working with young people in a competition to get
scholarships within the church. The competition is very hard and very physical. Being
reasonable help me keep my cool when my superiors would walk into my practices and ask me to
do things that were not safe or physically impossible for the kids that I had. I knew that I could ask
these kids to do that. I was not going to compromise their health because they wanted to win a
competition.

Harriet Jacobs And Jane Eyre Comparison
Womanhood and Solidarity
Jane Eyre and Incidents in the life of a slave girl are two opposite literary texts which, despite
being 19th century texts, belong to different historical periods. BrontГ« sets her character in the
Victorian England. Jacobs, on the other hand, writes about slavery during the civil war in order
to relate the treatment of slaves, and more precisely that of female slaves. We will analyse, in
this essay, the differences as well as the similarities which exist between Jane Eyre and Incidents
in the life of a slave girl written by herself. We see that they differ in terms of genre, the period of
history in which they find themselves, the way the characters are presented and so forth. However,
they share some of the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way she is treated is denounced. Jane is not from the working class, nor is she a servant.
Being an orphan who has been given a roof from her aunt and late uncle, the little girl whom we
meet in the beginning of the novel is furious at the idea of being treated less than the others around
her.
In Bronte s writing, the message is at times, quite clear, and at other time, relatively subtle. Jane
questions the status of woman. Yet, she does so mainly through her writing. A woman, at that time,
should not be free to have opinions and to manifest her feelings. However, through her writing,
she is able to treat certain taboo subjects, at times quite openly and at other times in a subtler
way. A woman is expected to follow the path which has been carved out for her. There is no
room to be passionate and to have opinions. Bronte, however, allows Jane to do so. The
description of the weather in several instances reflects the protagonist s state of mind. The
beginning of the novel is a perfect example to illustrate the way in which the narration sets the tone
for what is to be expected by the reader:
There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless
shrubbery an hour in the morning; but since dinner [...] the cold winter wind had brought with it
clouds so sombre, and a rain so penetrating, that futher outdoor exercise was now out of the question
(7).
After reading those opening lines, we discover that the fate of Jane

Human Dissection Essay
Though dissections have been occurring since humans first began seeking knowledge, it has often
been done in secret. Among them (means of obtaining human subjects for dissection) are the
bodies of the executed, bodies stolen from graveyards, unclaimed bodies from poorhouses,
hospitals and prisons, the bodies of suicides or duelists, and the bodies of persons murdered for the
purpose of dissection(Hildebrandt p.2). These unconventional means were necessary until in the
late 13th century and early 14th century Europe, dissection of the bodies of executed criminals
was legalized (Perloff p. 6) but there has been a long standing opposition of the church to human
dissections, especially the Roman empire. As per research of Mary Niven Alston,... Show more

Andreas Vesalius was the most influential component of the field of anatomy in modern time. After
the time he graduated from the University of Padua he became a professor but demanded he be
allowed to dissect which was untraditional because of the traditional lecture with barber surgeon
dissection format. He travelled around Europe doing public dissections where he began noticing his
observations did not match the material he was taught. In 1543 he published the results of his
disagreements with Galen, a new method, and a new philosophy in De humani corporis fabrica...
Vesalius showed that the liver was not five lobed but one mass, that men did not have one less rib
and women one more, that nerves were not hollow, and that bones were a dynamic foundation of
the human body (Ede 124). One of the most important aspects was the illustrations. It contains over
600 engravings. The different volumes address the skeleton, the muscles, the vascular and the
nervous systems, the abdomen, the thorax, and the brain. The book devoted to the muscles
contained a series of images showing successively uncovered muscular layers. Notably, the human
figures were presented in natural, rather than schematic, poses (Dominiczak p. 5). This rejection of
the traditional paved the way for future

Nike Case Analysis
At the moment Nike has the upper hand over other corporations allowing for significant economic
advancements. Conversely, it is important that Nike does not only use these initiatives as
advertising ploys but rather actually continues to make real change around the world. There is a
significant amount of opportunity here for Nike to pressure other corporations and even
governments into acting against climate change and towards better social conditions (JASP, 2016).
Nevertheless, because of how much global influence Nike hold, they have the potential to do much
more than that. The corporationcould work with various organizations, academic programs and
NGOs in order to do more research into what the most ideal conditions are and what kinds of needs
need to be addressed to better the overall social, economic and environmental conditions in which
the production processes is occurring (JASP, 2016). Furthermore, while Nike was inspired by ethnic
consumers, so can it promote ethnic consumption to those who might not have originally
considered these issues whilst purchasing these or even other commodities (JASP, 2016). The fear
at the moment, however, is that Nike is only in it for the money. During the boycott of the 1990s,
Nike could have avoided the crisis through acting sooner and recognizing the inequalities in their
corporation though they chose instead to ignore their demands (Jackson and Schantz, 1993, 32). In
fact, it was not until years later, when the longevity of the

Essay on RalphВґs Metamorphosis in the Lord of the Flies
The novel, Lord of the Flies, is a compelling story displaying the metamorphosis of an individual
when faced with external and internal conflicts. Ralph is the first character to be introduced in the
book. He is the most likeable as he is charming, athletic, and displays strong leadership qualities.
However, as the novelprogresses, Ralph loses his sense of civilization and undergoes a change in
characterdiscovering the evil man is capable of. Ralph s metamorphosis is captivating and displays
the inevitable loss of innocence.
To start off, Golding displays Ralph s character development with a deeper meaning connecting
Ralph with Adam in Garden of Eden. In the beginning of the book, Ralph takes his clothes off and
goes swimming. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Ralph argues, You haven t got the conch, Sit down (102). Following his displeasure at
Jack s point he tells the boys, Hasn t anyone got any sense?... don t any of you want to be rescued

believes in the conch. Therefore Ralph believing in the conch shows that he is still civilized. It is
not until the very end of the novel where Ralph goes down hill with the rest of the boys when the
conch is broken. Mass chaos erupts on the island as Jack and his crew chase Ralph with the island
burning in flames. When the boys are rescued Ralph acknowledges the fall through of civilization.
The officer mentions that they should have put up a better fight. In response, Ralph argues, It was
like that at first... before things (202). The conch breaking represented the end of civilization on the
island.
In addition, to the conch revealing Ralph s abandonment to civilization, Ralph s transformation
in hair coincides with the growth of savagery within him. In the beginning of the novel, Ralph is
a well kept boy. He is described as, The boy with fair hair (7). However, as the novel progresses
and Ralph starts to face internal and external conflicts on the island the reader sees the meaning
behind his hair. When the rules on the island are put aside, the other boys start to hunt and use their
power for killing. In the midst of the

Morality In Parks And Recreation
Modern day television is entertaining, thrilling, mysterious, and comical. However, morality
forgiveness, honesty, loyalty, patience, kindness is rarely ever considered in any storyline. Whether
the audience is composed of children, teenagers, or adults, most television shows today discuss
highly inappropriate topics. Consequently, there are a few films and TV shows that bring morality
and virtue to the table. Parks and Recreation, Fuller House, Star Trek, and Last Man Standing are
all generally clean, PG rated TV shows that attract teenage audiences. Parks and Recreation is a

the intended strategy.

A learning organization is fast becoming a reality. In any organization continuous learning means
growth through learning events and experiences for individual employees as well as teams, and the
organization as a whole. HR plays an important role in developing a culture of continuous learning.

Essay on Warfare and its Psychological Impact
Warfare and its Psychological Impact
Warfare causes many people to suffer from psychological problems. Many times, these problems
come in the form of mental illness. According to the DSM VI, which is the fourth edition of the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a mental disorder is a clinically significant
behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern that s associated with current distress (a painful
symptom) or disability (impairment in one or more important areas of functioning) or with a
significantly greater risk of suffering, death, pain, disability, or an important loss of freedom. This

There are some times when war is the only option, but this is not always the case. Therefore, we
should be more resistant to war. Our new resistance to war will provide a more psychologically
healthy environment.
Those most affected psychologically are those who have fought in war. Traumatic experiences
during war often create psychological problems such as survivor s guilt and guilt from killing
others; another psychological problem that war creates is PTSD (Post traumatic Stress
Disorder). Another group that is seriously affected by war is the loved ones of those killed or
missing in action have to deal with their traumatic death. When a soldier comes home their
families may have to deal with the added stress of having a husband, son or father with PTSD, a
drug abuse problem or alcohol addiction. Dealing with their loved one s problems can cause
friends and family members of the veteran to develop their own psychological problems. For
example, stress can cause depression. Lastly, a whole society is psychologically injured by war.
Some of the issues at this level include: dehumanization, desensitization, and distortion.
Combatants
The psychological effects of war occur partly because killing is not a normal phenomenon. The
sheer number of combatants who become psychological casualties illustrates the fact that killing is
not normal to the human race. Statistics show

Pros And Cons Of Weathering Lab
Discussion and Conclusion: I hypothesized that the four limestones being introduced to the four
different solutions used in this chemical weathering lab would weather at different rates. First, in
cup one, it was hypothesized that the 50% vinegar solution will have the greatest amount of
chemical weathering on the limestone, because the 50% vinegar solution is the strongest and most
like actual acid rains. Next, in cup two, it was hypothesized that the 10% vinegar solution will have
less chemical weatheringeffects than cup one, because the 10% vinegar solution has less chemical
weathering strength compared to the 50% solution. Additionally, in cup three, it was hypothesized
that the soda water solution will have less chemical weathering... Show more content on

It is seen all around us from headstones, to national parks, to the Statue of Liberty. First, chemical
weathering is one of the main reasons cemeteries commonly use a quartz or granite headstone
instead of limestone for today s memorial markers. The older limestone based markers have
shown they deteriorate over time from environmental factors, such as chemical weathering, and
become difficult or even impossible to read (Best Materials for Gravestones). This is also true of
many older monuments. Next, chemical weathering can be seen in national parks. In Carlsbad,
New Mexico, the Carlsbad Caverns were created due to chemical weathering. They were formed
by sulfuric acid that dissolved limestone (National Geographic, 2011). Finally, chemical weathering
is also prevalent on the Statue of Liberty. The weathering of the copper of the statue has caused
oxidation resulting in a thin layer of patina on Lady Liberty (Why is the Statue of Libery Green?).
Weathering is a natural process and some sources of chemical weathering are natural; however
some causes of chemical weathering are from human activities. Chemical compounds released into
the air contribute to chemical weathering. These compounds can come from the emissions from
factories, power plants, and automobiles. Chemical weathering speeds up the weathering process
and is changing the Earth s

Essay on Osteopathic Medicine
Osteopathic Medicine
I. Introduction of the D.O.
Currently there are two main types of licensed physicians in the United States. The first is the
medical doctor or the allopathic doctor. About 95% of licensed doctors have been educated at one
of over 120 allopathic medical schools and have thus obtained a medical doctor degree (M.D.). The

II. Osteopathy: past and present
Dr. Andrew Taylor Still is considered to be the founder of osteopathic medicine. Dr. Still practiced
as an orthodox medical doctor until spinal meningitis claimed the lives of three of his children in
1864. Convinced that using drugs for the treatment of ailments was not necessarily a scientific form
of therapy, Still searched for alternatives (Gevitz 125). Through interactions with his peers, he
began to see the human body as a vital mechanical organism, with all its parts structurally and
functionally coordinated (Berchtold 2). Consequently, health was maintained when all body parts
could interact in a harmonious manner and the flow of bodily fluids was unobstructed (Gevitz 127).
Unlike his allopathic counterparts, Still tended to look at the body as a whole while emphasizing
the body s inherent ability to produce remedies against disease. However, the human body could
only take care of itself if structural relationship was normal, environmental conditions favorable, and
nutrition satisfactory (Berchtold 2).
To help restore a patient to health Dr. Still began to use a landmark technique in osteopathic
medicine: osteopathic manipulation. By manipulating bones, muscles and other tissues Still
believed that he

Analysis of a Story in the Newspaper
Introduction
News media investigate, analyze, and report to stakeholder publics on issues and event s that
occur around the globe in a twenty four hour, 365 day news cycle (Richard,2007:98). Because of
the way news media works, we know what is happening in the world and we can have connection
to other places. With new media arising, the information transmission process become even faster.
Though new media is getting more prevalent, still, a considerable amount of people rely on one of
the traditional news media newspaper.
Facing the competition, the way news reported may change as newspapers need to maintain large
circulation figures to stay profitable (Bignell 1997:83). This directly affects how news is presented.

still clear. It tells the people involved, the place the event taken place and the nature of the event. It
shows its function to encapsulate the news (ibid:14). Orientation and evaluation
From the very beginning of the story, journalists mental analysis of what goes in a story has

In the opening paragraph of the news, journalist tells readers about four aspects who (Hong Kong
tourists and ex policeman), when (yesterday), where (Manila), and what (hostage). These four
aspects are the basic facts that concentrate at the beginning of a story (Bell:1991). It is an
obligatory part of news story and named as Orientation . From this lead paragraph, readers are able
to grasp the context of the news There was a hostage event happened yesterday in Manila,
involving Hong Kong tourists and an ex policeman.
Following the orientation paragraph is Evaluation . Orientation helps to form the lens through
which the reminder of the story is viewed (ibid., 1991: 152). In this part, the story is elaborated.
Through this part, a journalist hopes to make the text seem to

The Rise of Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela is one of the greatest honorable and governmental leaders. Mandela, was a

Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, then he became the presidency of his country in

captivating and inspirational governmental concerns in the world. President of the African National
Congress (ANC) and the leader of South Africa s antiapartheid movement, he was relentless in the
movement of a nation towards a multicultural government. Nelson Mandela served everywhere
as a vigorous strength for the fight of human civil rights and racial equal opportunity. African

In How To Tell If Your Child Is Lying
Consider the times at some point of your life you have lied when you were a child and why.
Some children worry how their mom and dad would react, whether or not if they would get into
trouble. Due to the fact that covering up the truth seems easier than dealing with a lie, one of the
unending problems that many parents face is lying by their children. Most children tell lies at some
point, but it can a surprise the first time you hear your child lying. Learning how to lieis part of a
child s development. Children can learn to tell lies from an early age, more often than not by
around three years of age. This is when your child starts to realize that you are not a mind reader,
in this way he can say things that are not true without you always... Show more content on

Discipline should not concentrate simply on punishment for lying, but rather on getting to the
foundation of the lying to keep it from happening again. In the article How to Discipline a Child
for Lying by Maria Magher gives five steps. To understand the reasons were the very first step.
For example, if your child is lying to get attention, focus on giving more praise for good behavior
and spend more one on one time together. The second step was to discuss the expectations for
honesty. If they are in a situation in which you suspect that may be lying, or in which they may
be tempted to lie remind them to encourage the truth. The third step was to make outcomes and
be consistent in implementing them. In the same article, Dr. Phil McGraw states When children
know what consequences they will faces as a result of lying, they make the choice each time to
either lie or to accept the punishment . However, consequences should be age appropriate and
specific such as loss of phone privileges, limited social time or removal of the television from the
bedroom. The fourth step was to set your child up for progress. Don t ask your child questions to
which you know the answer and might be tempted to lie. For example, instead of saying Did you
clean your room? it is ideal to let them know I notice you didn t clean your room. Let s work on a
solution together . The last but not least step five was to focus

Arthur Radley Evil
In To Kill a Mockingbird, the development of the character Arthur Radley is instrumental in
understanding the ethical injustices of the time. Harper Lee presents Arthur in a way as to suggest
and influence the initial perception of him. Scout describes, The Radley place was inhabited by an
unknown entity the mere description of whom was enough to make us behave for days on end (Lee
6). Because the children are intimidated by Arthur, they attempt to avoid him. However, as such,
their understanding is solely based off of rumors. The element of the unknown surrounding Arthur
allows for imaginative explanations and fear. Accordingly, as the children never saw Arthur, they

remembers, That is a sad house. I remember Arthur Radley when he was a boy. He always spoke
nicely to me, no matter what folks said he did. Spoke as nicely as he knew how (46). Before
Arthur retreated inside his home, he is reportedly well mannered, compassionate, and sociable.
This suggests that a tragic incident plagued Arthur, forcing him to retract from human contact. In
correspondence, the children discover that Arthur s father was a foot washing Baptist . Mrs.
Maudie conveys, but sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey
bottle in the hand of oh, of your father . . . There are just some kind of men who who re so busy
worrying about the next world they ve never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the
street and see the results (45). As a foot washing Baptist, Mr. Radley denounced enjoyable,
pleasurable luxuries or simplicities. Therefore, he would condemn Arthur for his friendly
excursions, as a kid, and he diminishes and confines Arthur s will to the house. In result, the
children are enticed by his absence and his pleasant demeanor is forgotten. Harper Lee utilized
Arthur Radley s solitude and negative reputation to exemplify the erroneous and unfounded

Civic Engagement Speech
In June of 2017 a close friend and I established a county wide political club designed specifically
for teenagers. Our club was founded on the ideals that we thought were most critical for political
success among teenagers. First and foremost, we wanted to encourage teens to get civically
engaged. I believe, vehemently, that through civic engagement, especially among teens, we are able
to bring forward the change the we aspire to. As someone who is absolutely enthralled with
volunteering on campaigns because of the, almost tangible, atmosphere of change that exists in a
campaign office, I believe that civic engagement is of the utmost importance to bringing upon
change. Secondly, we wanted to offer high school students a place where they could air their
frustrations with the current political climate. The last 8, and arguably 12, months have been
incredibly tumultuous. Our current president has chosen to demean and belittle minorities across
the country. As an immigrant I can empathize with the people who are in constant fear of being
deported. My mother is one of these people. While she has been here for more than a decade,

engagement, you bring on change, while also making incredible connections. For example, i was
able to reach out to multiple board members of the the Young Democrats of America, when I was
looking for guidance as to how to establish the chapter. This goes to show the power that getting
engaged in the community can have in either the short or long term future. These networking
experiences also connect people who have the experience with people who don t. By connecting
these two groups you are able to greatly reduce the learning curve, and enable the next generation to

Mentoring Programs And Development Towards Career Goals...
Literature Review Mentoring Programs Face to Face Mentoring Mentoring is a relationship
between a mentor who is a person of more experience and a mentee, a person who needs the
advice and assistance. In our case, the relationship would be built on a mutual desire for
progress and development towards career goals and objectives. This way of mentoring is a
more traditional way in which a face to face meeting is organized to serve the objective. This
method can exist between two people who already know each other and are comfortable with
each other or in a formal mentoring program setting where two people meet for the first time and
to share and direct. This way is extremely effective since both the mentor and the mentee gain
knowledge and experience. The mentor improves their leadership skills while the mentee gains
experience and awareness of a certain matter (Types of mentoring 2016). E mentoring This is a
different approach to mentoring where everything is based off the internet and communicating
through emails, social media and video calls. I believe that the relationship between the mentee
and mentor in this case is not as strong and effective, however people who live in rural areas or
who are too busy, would find it more convenient when they need a mentor. Of course, this method
lacks facial expressions, posture, dress, social status indicators and vocal cues which makes it a less
communicative and operative strategy (Types of mentoring 2016). This method of mentoring

2 Analysis of Southwest Airlines 3.8 Industry
The recent economical and financial downturn severely impacted the airline industry in 2009 and
brought only small increases in 2010. The recession negatively influenced the discretional income
of travellers. More precisely, the leisure travellers and business travellers budget changes resulted
with a sudden decrease in their demand. Therefore, corporate policies tightened and generally the
demand for travelling decreased. On the other hand, demand for substitute products, such as video
conferences and surface travel, has increased. As a result, many airlines, including Southwest
Airlines, responded with capacity cuts and fare discounting. On the other hand, Southwest used the
opportunity also to further expand and because of its low fare services, it could enter new markets
as well. 3.9 Company s Overview
Southwest Airlines is described on the NASDAQ profile as a major passenger airline that
provides scheduled air transportation in the US . The company primarily serves short haul
routes, but over the recent years they have expanded their services to medium and long haul
routes as well. Their unique feature is that it only operates with Boeing 737 as it is a domestic
low cost carrier company and it was necessary to have aircrafts that are easy to maintain and
repair. If a company only uses one type of aircraft, the technical issues are

Gender Roles And Roles Of Women
War films like 300 (2006) maintain and amplify the stereotypical roles of males and females,
where males are portrayed as the ones who have to serve as defender of all. The film industry
mainly classified the conventional gender roles of society into their movies; majority of films
have supported some of the male and female stereotypes. In the history of the film industry, the
role of men is primarily the stereotypical working class man or hero, while the roles of women
are primarily portrayed as being somewhat inferior to men. In the 1930s through the 1970s, men
held the leading roles in films while women played smaller roles. In terms of jobs, women were
given mostly family roles and rarely were shown outside of their homes, while men had successful
careers and did many activities outside of home. As women were given a more active role in
society, the genderroles in movies changed. However, many types of gender stereotypes in films
still exist. Men are typically portrayed to be the hero, while women are often portrayed as sexual
objects. In the movie 300 and according to 8 Reasons It Wasn t Easy Being Spartan. , the Spartan
men served and protected the city of Sparta, while the Spartan women did domestic chores and
were just to be there to breed more strong warriors. Long term effects also involve learning
processes. From infancy, humans learn how to perceive, interpret, judge, and respond to events in
the physical and social environment. (Anderson Bushman) The

Pros And Cons Of The Federal Budget
The federal budget is designed every year by undergoing an arduous process to be ratified as a
law. Under the regulations of the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921, the president first sends a
federal budget request to the United States Congress reflecting the needs of federal agencies to
work properly in the coming year. A debate in Congress ensues in response to the President s
budget request and eventually a budget resolution is put together by committees from both parties
in the House of Representatives in the Senate which is then turned into actual spending bills called
appropriations bills . A unique conference committee comes together to settle appropriations
disputes between the House of Representatives and the Senate, potentially leading to the president

The federal budget has three main categories which the US Treasury spends it s money including
mandatory spending, discretionary spending, and interest on debt. The discretionary and
mandatory spending is what Congress most vigorously disputes and what ends up causing the
most regret during each budget year for the President as tese expenditures account for more than
ninety percent on total federal spending . Inevitably, certain expenditures end up being too
meager or robust for certain causes and these truths only present themselves as the fiscal year
progresses. Much to the dismay of presidents, their powers do not allow them to reappropriate
spending as they are required by law to allow the federal government to spend the money as the
congress negotiated and the president agreed to in their signature of the bill. Although an
argument can be made against giving the President too much power, in light of yearly budget
failures, the President should be allowed to renegotiate and amend the federal budget with
Congress as the year plays out so the taxpayer s money is not wasted and our country does not fall

International Trade between Australia and Japan
Economic growth is a steady growth in the productive capacity of the nation s economy. Countries
manage their natural resources, physical and human resources, technology and institutional
framework to affect and control their outputs. Development in a country s production never merely
depends on domestic economic activities, but also on contact with other counties. With the growing
interaction between buyers and sellers worldwide, communication and exchange of product and
information has boosted economic growth ( Investopedia, 2014). This essay is an investigation and
analysis of a international tradebetween Australiaand Japan. It will explain the events and discuss
impact on Australian economic growth. The article is about an international trade partnership set
up by Australia and Japan. The aim of this partnership is to help stimulus the economic growth of
two counties under the privileged import policy. On April 08, 2014, Tony Abbott completed a
deal with Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe with the assurance that it would create
employment for both counties (David, 2014). The two leaders both gave respective ground to
allow cheaper imports, with a concession in budget revenue from tariffs in order to win
consumers. The Japanese deal will substantially make Australia have free export of dairy, beef,
wine, sugar, horticulture, and a range of services, while also making Japanese cars, cameras,

Why Is The Third Little Pig Admirable

reason why the third little pig is hard working is because he took the time and effort to build a

he had to transport them to the location where is the house was going to be.He then continued to

Current State Of Augmented Reality And How It Can Influence Mobile App Development
Augmented reality (AR) is obviously a very useful tool in the everyday lives of many people.
Though it might not be as exciting as a VR rollercoaster ride, it s wondrous ability to enhance
the things people feel, hear and see, as well as the elements of the virtual world is brings into the
real world has made it a gregarious force to reckon with. Currently, there is a growing number of

Interestingly, these AR apps are not limited to games alone. Now homeowners can have a preview
of how a how a retailer s virtual furniture will look in their homes before they even decide to buy it.
This is basically what every AR app development company is seeking to achieve. The number of
augmented reality apps developed for both Android devices and the iPhone has dramatically
increased in recent times. Both gamers and retailers are showing tremendous interest in augmented
reality possibilities.
Augmented Reality apps
Before now, the main objectives of any AR app development company were focused on the
development of augmented reality apps for the early tablet, smartphone, and PC. But to today, AR
uses now involve a much broader perspective.
The possible educational and commercial applications of AR apps across a range of industries are
becoming more or less unlimited. Augmented reality, as it is today, is employed by medical
personnel to prepare for surgeries. In the military, soldiers are using AR to render assistance to men
and women while they make repairs in the field.
Uses of AR in the Medical field
Educationally, an increasing number of medical students are making use of augmented reality
technology to facilitate the practice of surgery in a controlled environment. Patients, on the other

Reflection About Divergent
The entire lives of the citizens in Divergent are determined by what they are in. The only freedom
that they are granted is the ability to choose their faction. There are five factions with a personality
type and those are Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (happiness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless
(brave), and Erudite (knowledge). I do not think the factions represent every basic personality.
There are some people like Tris who are just not one personality type. I think I would create one
that could be for the people who failed the test or feel like they belong to more than one faction.
The reason behind the creation of the factions was to create peace and order within the society. I
believe that the factions are working because Tris s society, the factions have held together the
structure in her community. In Tris s society, the fact that they do not have a lot of choices is not
really making the society better. Something else that does not help, is that the divergents have to
hide.
A faction I think I would have been born into is candor because of my family valuing honesty. I
would have wanted to choose Erudite because of the knowledge and intelligence. At the age of
sixteen, I would not feel that comfortable choosing my faction because at that age you are not very
experienced. You are young and could make the wrong choice.
A choice that I have made that had changed me is to be more positive. Some future choices that I
will also make is to not let certain things and opinions

dominaciГіn de clase.

The Moral Logic Of Survivor Guilt In The Seventh Man By...
In war, standing here rather than there can save your life but cost a buddy his. It s flukish luck,
but you feel responsible. (Sherman 153). In The Moral Logic of Survivor Guilt, Nancy Sherman
uses this quote to explain the basis of survivor guilt in war. In The Seventh Man by Haruki
Murakami, the narrator failed to save his closest friend from a wave. As Sherman said in her
quote, people often feel guilty when they survive a situation that others didn t. The narrator s
situation in The Seventh Man is a perfect example of this. Despite his failure to save K., the
narrator should still forgive himself.
The Seventh Man was unsuccessful in saving his childhood friend, K. In spite of his lack of
success, he should not have to live with guilt about this for his entire life. In Sherman s editorial,
she states that, Subjective guilt, associated with this sense of responsibility, is thought to be
irrational because one feels guilty despite the fact that he knows he has done nothing wrong.
(Sherman 154). The Seventh Man did not do anything wrong, therefore, if he were to feel guilt, it
would be subjective. The failure to fulfil a task due to fear or another overpowering feeling is not
the same as doing something incorrectly. The Seventh Man says, What made me do this, I m
sure, was fear, a fear so overpowering it took my voice away and set my legs to running on their
own. (Murakami 138). This statement illustrates how he desperately wanted to do the right thing
and run to his friend, but his feelings and subconscious thoughts drove him to do the opposite. This
is something a person cannot be blamed for. Therefore, it would only be reasonable for the Seventh
Man to forgive himself for what occurred.
It is simple to argue that the Seventh Man should not forgive himself for failing to save K. One
may assert that the narrator could have physically warned K. by giving him a slight shove or patting
him on the back. Although this is logical, if one were to literally put him or herself in the Seventh
Man s situation, he or she would recognize the overwhelming amount of thoughts running through
his head in the moment. In The Key to Disaster Survival? Friends and Neighbors, Shankar
Vedantam reports about a 2004

Rap Music And Its Effect On Society
As a whole, Rap music is a misrepresentation of black culture. Rap teaches youth that violence,
demeaning women and participating in criminal activity are acceptable in today s society.
Despite the rap artists that do use self expression as a means of changing the way listeners view
society, rap music contradicts the good that it can create. Rap is proven detrimental toward
society, despite the political views most believe it provides. Simply stated, raps contradictive
nature makes it impossible for it to be used as a vehicle of progressive change. As a result of Rap
music s misogyny towards women, women are depicted in a negative way which keeps society
bias toward women s equality. Through Rap music, youth are taught that the social norm is to
objectify women and to depict them as manipulative. Next, raps glorification of the criminal
lifestyle influences youth to practice unlawful behavior. Rap stereotypes African Americans in a
negative light by influencing listeners to sell drugs, steal, and participate in gang activity in order
to obtain fast wealth. Moreover, this paper will overview three topics that have influenced society
including rap misogyny, criminal rap and rap stereotypes. Rap Against Women Rebollo Gil and
Moras state that over the years, Rap music has not been pro women. In fact, Rap objectifies
women through its lyrical content portraying them as inanimate objects whose opinion hold little
value (Rebollo Gil, Moras 126). Rap s portrayal of women is a

John Stuart Mill s On Liberty
John Stuart Mill s On Liberty essay, published in 1859, portrays Mill s perception of liberty with
an emphasis on individuality. He explicitly states at the start of the essay that the main point is to
govern absolutely the dealings of society with the individual in the way of compulsion and control
(5). His push to establish the basic guidelines for the relationship between authority and libertyis a
result of his ethical theory of utilitarianism. Throughout the course of this essay, Mill provides the
reader with a deeper understanding of their individual civil liberties, as well as presenting examples
that enhance his ideas. Mill begins this essay with an introductory chapter that immediately

The introduction of the essay provides a better understanding for the foundation of Mill s
beliefs, as well as preparing the audience to examine Mill s next point focused thought and
discussion. In Chapter 2, Mill discusses the problem of people, both individuals and those in
government, coercing the opinions of others. Mill states that the power itself is illegitimate ,
meaning that it is unjust to silence the opinion of an individual. (21) He believes that there is a
peculiar evil in silencing the opinion of an individual, and that evil is robbing the human race of
helping better understand not only that particular opinion but also opposing opinions (21). He
first defends his claim by asserting that society is harmed by the silencing of opinion because it
could be true. With this argument, Mill begins to refute any criticisms of his work. He responds
to four main critics, first discussing how a person is only deserving of confidence if they are
open to contradicting opinions through experience and discussion. According to Mill, No wise
man ever acquired his wisdom in any mode but this and that an individual cannot become wise in
any other manner e.g. (24). Following this, Mill states that The usefulness of an opinion is itself
matter of opinion , as it is different for everyone (27). To help strengthen his argument, he uses the
persecutions of Socrates and Jesus Christ as examples of mistakes made by popular opinions, as

Neutral Kitchen Research Paper
Your neutral kitchen doesn t have to be a boring one when you add visual interest with
accessories. There are ways you can stay classy and neutral but avoid boring. From the tile to the
color scheme, you ll have to make careful decisions to stay natural and bright in the space.
Stylish Tile
In a neutral kitchen, you want to stay timeless. This is especially true with the tile. Stick with
subway tiles that will look fresh for years to come. The subway tiles always look great when they
re slim. Avoid wide, square tiles and stick to traditional styles.
Stripes can be Subtle

You can add dark cabinets in black or gray along with metal accents to stay neutral without being
bland.
Mirrors
When you have one color in the kitchen, you can pull in colors from other rooms by using mirrors
on shelves or as a backsplash. Strategically place accent colors, so that they re reflected in the
mirror.
Layered Paint
With light gray, dark gray and charcoal, you have a neutral color palette that can be a sleek
addition to any kitchen. You don t need a riot of colors to create interest in the space. Use three
neutrals with the same tones to the kitchen. The cabinets, walls and backspash can be painted.
Upholstery
With a neutral color in the kitchen, you can change the look of the furniture upholstery easily
every year or two. Whether it s stripes or flowers on a banquette, you ll easily change the look
without having to add a lick of paint.
Wallpaper
Neutral kitchens can have soft wallpapers to give them subtle drama. A cream wallpaper would
look great with a beige or white kitchen. Pick a large print that blends with the colors.
Bring in Wood
While wood is natural, it can be attractive with a variety of neutral styles. The grain showing
through will make even a simple, one color kitchen look incredible.

Examine the Way in Which One Religion Uses Scripture as a...
Examine the ways in which one religion uses scripture as a basis for its teachings about sexual
behaviour (30 marks).
The Christian religion implements the use of scripture as the highest command for the way in
which sexual ethics is implemented. Christian teaching explores several issues in light of sexuality
such as extra marital and pre marital sex, homosexuality and pro creation and I will write about
these in this essay.
When looking at pre marital sex, traditional Christian teachings of the bible suggest that sex is
only for married couples and hetro sexual couples. For example, Timothy 5:2: As a Christian man,
if you are not married to her, then she is your sister whom you must treat with absolute purity.

Sexual involvement with non Israelites was forbidden, as it would lead away from God, so
adultery was forbidden. If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer
and the adulteress shall be stoned to death Leviticus. This clearly states that adultery is a punishable
act that can result in being put to death. Women should be virgins on marriageso that the man could
be certain that the child was his, so that the children could carry on the husband s name.
In the New Testament, Jesus challenges the view of the wife as the man s property. Whoever
divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her . Jesus teachings on adultery
are all about the harming of relationships. Everyone who looks at another woman with his lust
has already committed adultery with her in his heart . It s clear from this quote that Jesus
strongly disagrees with a husband straying from his wife, and he should be faithful and loyal to
her. Matthew also held the same view of adultery If your right eyes causes you to sin then tear it
out, it s better to lose a member than for your whole body to be thrown in to hell . However, Jesus
did forgive the adulterous woman who was brought before him. Neither do I condemn you. Go your
way and do not sin again . He claimed that our intentions are the most important thing.

Who Is Derek Bogaard Unethical
Imagine getting paid $6.8 million for a 4 year contract to beat up people in the ice rink. This is
what Derek Boogaard s contract is worth with the New York Rangers. In a New York Times
article, Derek Boogaard was the most feared enforcer standing 7 feet tall on his skates. His job
was not to play, but to fight others in the ice rink. He was known as the boogeyman. He could
shatter a nose or jaw with a single punch. At the height of his career, he earned millions of dollars.
During enforcement in the ice rink, Derek Boogaard and other enforcers incur many head injuries
due to constant fighting. As a result, they developed CTE, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.

Chris Argyris Theory Of Personality And The Organization
Talent management grew to be recognized in the 90s, but can be traced to the 1950s and 1960s in
the form of three management theories namely: Chris Argyris theory of personality and the
organization; Frederick Herzberg s two factor theory; as well as David McClelland s concept of
achievement and orientation theory.
i)Chris Argyris theory of Personality and organization: argues that corporate role expectations had
become stifle. The consistent development of individuals implied increasing responsibility and
emphasis on job space as well as five horizons but jobs limited responsibility were over specialized
and reduced below time expectations. Authoritative managements alienated employees within the

Essay on The Fly by Katherine Mansfield
The Fly Having read many pieces of literature through short stories, it is evident that each story
has its own unique use of symbolism. Diverse characters in each work of literature are used to
demonstrate these forms of symbolism. The boss and his inner conflict illustrate a great deal of
symbolism in The Flyby Katherine Mansfield. The boss s perception of the actions of the fly
creates an interesting view of the comparison of his father son, father fly relationship. Katherine
Mansfield, a famous realist, who uses concrete images, appeals to many readers because she
incorporates her life into the stories she writes. Much attention is paid to the central character, the
boss and his life (Schoenberg). It is interesting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He overwhelms his son by taking control of his future and planning out his life. The boss s plan
for his son is to take over the business which gives the son no other choices or opportunities
concerning his future. Ever since his birth, the boss has worked at building up his business for
him; it had no other meaning if it was not for the boy (Mansfield 508). It seems as though the
physical action of the boss smothering the fly is associated with the sufferings that his son has
experienced. Both the boss s son and the fly go through similar yet different forms of suffering
throughout their lives. Interestingly, while the fly is struggling to live, the boss utters, Come
on, Look Sharp (Mansfield 509), just as he would say to his suffering son. Both the fly and
victims of wartime fighting (his son) are innocently killed by cruel forces over which they have
no control (Schoenberg). The antagonist is the character or force that represents the opposition
to the protagonist and is the source for conflict. Mr. Woodifield plays the roll of the antagonist in
The Fly . He is a former employee of the boss who comes by the office to visit once a week. The
two men usually talk, catch up, and enjoy each other s company. Mr. Woodifield is not in great
health because of a stroke. The boss is five years older than him and is illustrated as being in much

  • 2. Analysis Of Pablo Neruda In most cases, texts that are translated lose meaning, as sometimes words from a native language cannot be translated exactly into a desired language, or they lose context. World literature translations also lead to the dangers of a single story where you only get to read one side of the story (the one of the author) without having a perspective of the natives about the story that was written. To understand, how language is used in world literature, and how text translations change our understanding and meaning of the text, we need to be able to understand the culture, have historical understanding of the time the literary work was written, and factors that might affect society in which the author had written. When one wants to study world literature, they need to consider that translations of the text smooths out not only linguisticsrichness but also the original and political force a work can have in its original context. World literature needs to be studied with close attention to the original language and context, including works that have new meaning and take new dimensions abroad. There is a shift that unfolds on the internal logic of the work itself, but often come as complex dynamic of cultural change and contestation. For a work to be considered a valuable piece in world literature it must be read first as literature, and secondly circulate into a broader world beyond linguistic and cultural point of origins. Pablo Neruda s poems are post colonial responses to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. World War 1 Causes In the late 1800s Otto von Bismarck, the Chancellor of Prussia predicted that some damned foolish thing in the Balkans would start another war. That is exactly what happened when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary visited the Balkans and was shot; this sparked World War 1. The killing of the Archduke, however, is not the only reason for World War 1. There were actually four underlying causes that led to World War 1: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism. All four of these causes played their own part in leading to World War 1 and set off a chain of events that left Europe shaken. Militarism was a underlying factor in leading to World War 1 because it created competition between countries and caused those countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The alliances were the triple alliance and the triple entente. The triple alliance consisted of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. The triple entente consisted of France, United Kingdom, and Russia (Document 3). As mentioned before the killing of the Archduke in Serbia sparked the war because Austria Hungary attacked Serbia due to the killing of their to be ruler. Then Russia starts to mobilize due to its alliance with Serbia and then Germany declares war on Russia and France to protect Austria Hungary due to their alliance. Germany wants to get through Belgium to go attack France but United kingdom has an alliance with them and attacks Germany to protect Belgium.A public cartoon shows how countries blamed other countries and this also shows how the whole war unraveled. Austria Hungary is pointing fingers at Serbia while it is pointing their back. Then Russia can be seen pointing at Germany while Germany points back at Russia. Belgium, Britain, and France are all also pointing at Germany while Italy stands there with its hands crossed (Document 4). This whole cartoon shows the alliances of the countries and who blamed ... • 4. The Causes Of The Tiananmen Square Protest Of 1989 On June 5, 1989, soldiers and tanks from China s People s Liberation Army physically oppressed the student led protesters. The events surrounding this day are referred to as the Tiananmen Square Protest of 1989, a democracy movement calling for political and social reforms in the Republic of China. The deaths that occurred as a consequence of the Tiananmen Square Protest was not the fault of the students, but rather, the disastrous situation of China beforehand, the common belief that demonstrations would succeed, and the government s obstinate decisions. China was already suffering from harsh living conditions prior to the massacre, in which these conditions pushed the students to act. To begin with, the country had been under intense economic pressure. After changing into a capitalist based economy, the economy increasing changed due to rising inflation, declining wages, and rising unemployment rates. To complicate things, the government deregulated prices of many products. The Chinese feared inflation would occur with the removal of price controls, and used all their savings to purchase items ahead of time. As a result, the biggest department store sold two hundred times its usual monthly income. Labour unrest grew, and between 20 to 30 million were laid off in state enterprises that year. By 1989, people were ready for political reforms. Even though China s economy was growing, there were strict limitations on daily aspects of one s life. The rising inflation and ... • 5. Malaysia in the 1990s Malaysia in the 1990s: Case Analysis Decision analysis: What is the best strategy for the Malaysian government moving forward? This decision can only be made after the country s current strategy and how well it works is analyzed. Adopt the view of the Prime Minister. Consider the character s strengths, responsibilities, and blind spots. Why is the Prime Minister in this dilemma? 1. Are the charges of the environmental groups true? Yes. Based on the information in the case, timber harvesting is out of control, particularly in Sarawak. The rate in which the timber is being harvested cannot be sustained and eventually will dry up. The Malaysian government recognizes this issue and the Western interests groups are threatening to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There would be less interest from the US and Europe to invest in Malaysia. There is a divide between Western Malaysia and Eastern Malaysia. The primary exports to Western countries come from finished goods out of Western Malaysia, whereas in Eastern Malaysia (Sarawak and Sabah) they primarily export raw materials to the Eastern world. 4. What is your hypothesis? Decision options: The Prime Minister has a few choices: * The Malaysian government rejects criticism and threats of the Western government and environmentalists, making no changes to current policies but keeping a close eye on fixing some of the problems, particularly in Eastern Malaysia. * The Malaysian government accepts the criticism of the Western government and environmentalists, making all necessary changes. * The Malaysia government makes selective changes to policy based on the criticism of the Western government and environmentalists. Considerations: * Connections with the US and Europe based on his government s ambitious economic strategy for growth. * The use of natural resources like the forests, the impact on the country. * The relations with environmental groups outside Malaysia. * The motive of Western based environmental groups. Who s driving this bus? Is it the competition in the US and Europe from the softwood timber producers? 5. What is your argument or framework of statements? • 6. Being A Reasonable Thinker Being a reasonable thinker is a strategy that has benefit me. Working at a church could look like working at a place that everybody has everything worked out. That is not even close in my experience. People often thing that because we follow a faith that we will overlook things and let things go. I had a time when I was working with young people in a competition to get scholarships within the church. The competition is very hard and very physical. Being reasonable help me keep my cool when my superiors would walk into my practices and ask me to do things that were not safe or physically impossible for the kids that I had. I knew that I could ask these kids to do that. I was not going to compromise their health because they wanted to win a competition. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Harriet Jacobs And Jane Eyre Comparison Womanhood and Solidarity Jane Eyre and Incidents in the life of a slave girl are two opposite literary texts which, despite being 19th century texts, belong to different historical periods. BrontГ« sets her character in the Victorian England. Jacobs, on the other hand, writes about slavery during the civil war in order to relate the treatment of slaves, and more precisely that of female slaves. We will analyse, in this essay, the differences as well as the similarities which exist between Jane Eyre and Incidents in the life of a slave girl written by herself. We see that they differ in terms of genre, the period of history in which they find themselves, the way the characters are presented and so forth. However, they share some of the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way she is treated is denounced. Jane is not from the working class, nor is she a servant. Being an orphan who has been given a roof from her aunt and late uncle, the little girl whom we meet in the beginning of the novel is furious at the idea of being treated less than the others around her. In Bronte s writing, the message is at times, quite clear, and at other time, relatively subtle. Jane questions the status of woman. Yet, she does so mainly through her writing. A woman, at that time, should not be free to have opinions and to manifest her feelings. However, through her writing, she is able to treat certain taboo subjects, at times quite openly and at other times in a subtler way. A woman is expected to follow the path which has been carved out for her. There is no room to be passionate and to have opinions. Bronte, however, allows Jane to do so. The description of the weather in several instances reflects the protagonist s state of mind. The beginning of the novel is a perfect example to illustrate the way in which the narration sets the tone for what is to be expected by the reader: There was no possibility of taking a walk that day. We had been wandering, indeed, in the leafless shrubbery an hour in the morning; but since dinner [...] the cold winter wind had brought with it clouds so sombre, and a rain so penetrating, that futher outdoor exercise was now out of the question (7). After reading those opening lines, we discover that the fate of Jane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Human Dissection Essay Though dissections have been occurring since humans first began seeking knowledge, it has often been done in secret. Among them (means of obtaining human subjects for dissection) are the bodies of the executed, bodies stolen from graveyards, unclaimed bodies from poorhouses, hospitals and prisons, the bodies of suicides or duelists, and the bodies of persons murdered for the purpose of dissection(Hildebrandt p.2). These unconventional means were necessary until in the late 13th century and early 14th century Europe, dissection of the bodies of executed criminals was legalized (Perloff p. 6) but there has been a long standing opposition of the church to human dissections, especially the Roman empire. As per research of Mary Niven Alston,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Andreas Vesalius was the most influential component of the field of anatomy in modern time. After the time he graduated from the University of Padua he became a professor but demanded he be allowed to dissect which was untraditional because of the traditional lecture with barber surgeon dissection format. He travelled around Europe doing public dissections where he began noticing his observations did not match the material he was taught. In 1543 he published the results of his disagreements with Galen, a new method, and a new philosophy in De humani corporis fabrica... Vesalius showed that the liver was not five lobed but one mass, that men did not have one less rib and women one more, that nerves were not hollow, and that bones were a dynamic foundation of the human body (Ede 124). One of the most important aspects was the illustrations. It contains over 600 engravings. The different volumes address the skeleton, the muscles, the vascular and the nervous systems, the abdomen, the thorax, and the brain. The book devoted to the muscles contained a series of images showing successively uncovered muscular layers. Notably, the human figures were presented in natural, rather than schematic, poses (Dominiczak p. 5). This rejection of the traditional paved the way for future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Nike Case Analysis At the moment Nike has the upper hand over other corporations allowing for significant economic advancements. Conversely, it is important that Nike does not only use these initiatives as advertising ploys but rather actually continues to make real change around the world. There is a significant amount of opportunity here for Nike to pressure other corporations and even governments into acting against climate change and towards better social conditions (JASP, 2016). Nevertheless, because of how much global influence Nike hold, they have the potential to do much more than that. The corporationcould work with various organizations, academic programs and NGOs in order to do more research into what the most ideal conditions are and what kinds of needs need to be addressed to better the overall social, economic and environmental conditions in which the production processes is occurring (JASP, 2016). Furthermore, while Nike was inspired by ethnic consumers, so can it promote ethnic consumption to those who might not have originally considered these issues whilst purchasing these or even other commodities (JASP, 2016). The fear at the moment, however, is that Nike is only in it for the money. During the boycott of the 1990s, Nike could have avoided the crisis through acting sooner and recognizing the inequalities in their corporation though they chose instead to ignore their demands (Jackson and Schantz, 1993, 32). In fact, it was not until years later, when the longevity of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following his displeasure at Jack s point he tells the boys, Hasn t anyone got any sense?... don t any of you want to be rescued (102)? The reader sees the start of abandoning civilization among the boys, although Ralph still believes in the conch. Therefore Ralph believing in the conch shows that he is still civilized. It is not until the very end of the novel where Ralph goes down hill with the rest of the boys when the conch is broken. Mass chaos erupts on the island as Jack and his crew chase Ralph with the island burning in flames. When the boys are rescued Ralph acknowledges the fall through of civilization. The officer mentions that they should have put up a better fight. In response, Ralph argues, It was like that at first... before things (202). The conch breaking represented the end of civilization on the island. In addition, to the conch revealing Ralph s abandonment to civilization, Ralph s transformation in hair coincides with the growth of savagery within him. In the beginning of the novel, Ralph is a well kept boy. He is described as, The boy with fair hair (7). However, as the novel progresses and Ralph starts to face internal and external conflicts on the island the reader sees the meaning behind his hair. Literature Review Mentoring Programs Face to Face Mentoring Mentoring is a relationship between a mentor who is a person of more experience and a mentee, a person who needs the advice and assistance. In our case, the relationship would be built on a mutual desire for progress and development towards career goals and objectives. This way of mentoring is a more traditional way in which a face to face meeting is organized to serve the objective. This method can exist between two people who already know each other and are comfortable with each other or in a formal mentoring program setting where two people meet for the first time and to share and direct. This way is extremely effective since both the mentor and the mentee gain knowledge and experience. The mentor improves their leadership skills while the mentee gains experience and awareness of a certain matter (Types of mentoring 2016). Gender Roles And Roles Of Women War films like 300 (2006) maintain and amplify the stereotypical roles of males and females, where males are portrayed as the ones who have to serve as defender of all. The film industry mainly classified the conventional gender roles of society into their movies; majority of films have supported some of the male and female stereotypes. In the history of the film industry, the role of men is primarily the stereotypical working class man or hero, while the roles of women are primarily portrayed as being somewhat inferior to men. In the 1930s through the 1970s, men held the leading roles in films while women played smaller roles. In terms of jobs, women were given mostly family roles and rarely were shown outside of their homes, while men had successful careers and did many activities outside of home. As women were given a more active role in society, the genderroles in movies changed. However, many types of gender stereotypes in films still exist. Men are typically portrayed to be the hero, while women are often portrayed as sexual objects. In the movie 300 and according to 8 Reasons It Wasn t Easy Being Spartan. , the Spartan men served and protected the city of Sparta, while the Spartan women did domestic chores and were just to be there to breed more strong warriors. Under the regulations of the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921, the president first sends a federal budget request to the United States Congress reflecting the needs of federal agencies to work properly in the coming year. A debate in Congress ensues in response to the President s budget request and eventually a budget resolution is put together by committees from both parties in the House of Representatives in the Senate which is then turned into actual spending bills called appropriations bills . A unique conference committee comes together to settle appropriations disputes between the House of Representatives and the Senate, potentially leading to the president s signing of a veto of the proposed budget into law, which the president (by law) is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The federal budget has three main categories which the US Treasury spends it s money including mandatory spending, discretionary spending, and interest on debt. The discretionary and mandatory spending is what Congress most vigorously disputes and what ends up causing the most regret during each budget year for the President as tese expenditures account for more than ninety percent on total federal spending . Inevitably, certain expenditures end up being too meager or robust for certain causes and these truths only present themselves as the fiscal year progresses. Much to the dismay of presidents, their powers do not allow them to reappropriate spending as they are required by law to allow the federal government to spend the money as the congress negotiated and the president agreed to in their signature of the bill. Although an argument can be made against giving the President too much power, in light of yearly budget failures, the President should be allowed to renegotiate and amend the federal budget with Congress as the year plays out so the taxpayer s money is not wasted and our country does not fall deeper into ... I do not think the factions represent every basic personality. There are some people like Tris who are just not one personality type. • 43. The Moral Logic Of Survivor Guilt In The Seventh Man By... In war, standing here rather than there can save your life but cost a buddy his. It s flukish luck, but you feel responsible. (Sherman 153). In The Moral Logic of Survivor Guilt, Nancy Sherman uses this quote to explain the basis of survivor guilt in war. In The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami, the narrator failed to save his closest friend from a wave. As Sherman said in her quote, people often feel guilty when they survive a situation that others didn t. The narrator s situation in The Seventh Man is a perfect example of this. Despite his failure to save K., the narrator should still forgive himself. The Seventh Man was unsuccessful in saving his childhood friend, K. In spite of his lack of success, he should not have to live with guilt about this for his entire life. In Sherman s editorial, she states that, Subjective guilt, associated with this sense of responsibility, is thought to be irrational because one feels guilty despite the fact that he knows he has done nothing wrong. (Sherman 154). The Seventh Man did not do anything wrong, therefore, if he were to feel guilt, it would be subjective. The failure to fulfil a task due to fear or another overpowering feeling is not the same as doing something incorrectly. The Seventh Man says, What made me do this, I m sure, was fear, a fear so overpowering it took my voice away and set my legs to running on their own. (Murakami 138). This statement illustrates how he desperately wanted to do the right thing and run to his friend, but his feelings and subconscious thoughts drove him to do the opposite. This is something a person cannot be blamed for. Therefore, it would only be reasonable for the Seventh Man to forgive himself for what occurred. It is simple to argue that the Seventh Man should not forgive himself for failing to save K. One may assert that the narrator could have physically warned K. by giving him a slight shove or patting him on the back. Although this is logical, if one were to literally put him or herself in the Seventh Man s situation, he or she would recognize the overwhelming amount of thoughts running through his head in the moment. Despite the rap artists that do use self expression as a means of changing the way listeners view society, rap music contradicts the good that it can create. Rap is proven detrimental toward society, despite the political views most believe it provides. Simply stated, raps contradictive nature makes it impossible for it to be used as a vehicle of progressive change. As a result of Rap music s misogyny towards women, women are depicted in a negative way which keeps society bias toward women s equality. Through Rap music, youth are taught that the social norm is to objectify women and to depict them as manipulative. Next, raps glorification of the criminal lifestyle influences youth to practice unlawful behavior. Rap stereotypes African Americans in a negative light by influencing listeners to sell drugs, steal, and participate in gang activity in order to obtain fast wealth.
