The mallard duck lives in habitats across Asia, Europe and North Africa. It migrates south for the winter and breathes through its bill. As an omnivore, the mallard duck eats plants, small fish, insects and their eggs. At night, it sleeps on water to protect itself from predators. Females lay 5 to 14 eggs that hatch into ducklings. With over 10 million alive today, the mallard duck is not endangered.
