Foreign investors starving for fixed income securities that also had returns better than
government securities, decided to invest in mortgage back securities provided by
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In order to take advantage of the savings glut Wall
Street firms began to package many of these sub prime mortgages together and
create what was known as a mortgage backed security.1 A mortgage backed
security, was an asset backed security that was secured by a collection of upwards
a several hundred mortgages. The issue was the mortgage back securities provided
by Fannie, Freddie, and investment banks were given good ratings by rating
agencies such as Standard and Poor s and Moody s, even though these assets were
toxic. They gave the mortgage back securities good ratings, because their risk
assessment models solely used previous housing data, and did not include any
possibility of a fall in housing prices.3 As a result, overseas investors believed they
were getting secure assets with above average returns, but instead they were getting
very toxic assets instead. So the interest in these mortgage back securities continued
the flood of savings, continuing the suppression of interest rates and maintained the
status quo.2 Banks lent out these sub prime mortgages at a prolific rate because
even if the borrower foreclosed, banks were still able to make a profit, as they

The majority of people in this world live a life that could possibly be a product of an
illusion. An illusion could possibly ruin the lives of many people, by making the
people live a life full of lies and dishonesty. The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, is a fictional, dramatic novel. In the novel, one of the main characters,
named Gatsby, is seen living a life that was a product of lies, and dishonesty. There
is no doubt that Gatsby s whole life, in addition to his death, was a product of an
illusion.
The beginning of Gatsby s illusion was when Gatsby was seventeen. At the age of
seventeen James Gatz, Gatsby s real name, witnessed an event that changed his
life. For Example, when Gatsby saw Dan Cody s yacht anchored over the most
dangerous place on the lake, James Gatz informed Cody that a wind might catch
him and break him up in half an hour. (Fitzgerald 105). The encounter that James
Gatz had with Cody was what started the illusion that Gatz was going to live for the

It is incredibly hard to take a classic, a piece known by thousands, recognizable by
the first few notes of music, and change a single thing without inducing wrath. The
Hard Nut by Mark Morris is a contemporary dance piece choreographed in the early
1990s. It is a piece based off of the Nutcracker, following a slightly altered story,
though keeping the original music and much of the original concept. The dance
focused on will be The Waltz of the Snowflakes. This dance, in particular, reflects
concepts of beauty beyond gender, while also reflecting how the concepts of gender
were challenged during the time period that this was originally choreographed and
performed in, reflected through both the choreography and the set. The Hard Nut is a
stunning piece of contemporary balletalters the original concepts of the Nutcracker
while still honoring the original. The modernized version is meant to take place in
possibly 1960s or 1970s, opposed to the Victorian Era most use, but the setting isn
t the only thing that is modernized in this piece. The Waltz of the Snowflakes is a
fan favorite of the original Nutcracker, where the snowflakes, donned in beautiful
white tutus, dance around Clara and the prince, creating a stunning winter scene.
The original and the modernized version do have the costuming in common, which
wouldn t be surprising was it not for the dancers involved. While the Waltz of the
Snowflakes is traditionally a rather feminine piece, Mark Morris chose here to use
the entire ensemble, regardless of gender, in the dance, all of whom wore the same
white tutu costumes with headpieces that further hid their gender and sex.
Additionally, the choreography in the dance, unlike most ballet pieces, is not
separated by gender. Each dancer dances the same choreography regardless of their
sex or gender. The choice of contemporary ballet is perfect for the message and
concepts behind the piece, taking a story, or long held dance rules, and bending them
to modern times while still protecting the integrity of the original piece or style. The
lack of separation in this piece is a stunning reflection of the concept that gender or
sex has no correlation with beauty.

debt surpassed credit card debt at $830 billon dollars(Clemmitt 877 900). Debt has
become an increasing problem for students who want to attend college. As more
students try to further their education, tuition rises and so does the amount of loans
taken out each year. According to Belkin, Students attending public four year
institutions this academic year are paying an average of $12,620, up $220 from last
year, for tuition, room and board, meaning that tuition is only growing not decreasing
from previous years(Belkin n.p.). Many people debate over whether they should
attend college and be in debt or if they should get a job somewhere that allows them
to live a comfortable life debt free. Two thirds of college graduates have to take out
