MOOCs in Irish Media: Messages Behind the StoryMark Brown
Presentation at Open up education: National MOOC symposium. Dublin City University, Dublin, 1st May 2015.
This event was supported through two European funded projects: the HOME Project, SCORE2020 Project
ELearning is often touted as the way to ensure that everyone, irrespective of their geographical location, can participate in education and the learning management system is usually what enables this. The learning management system houses multi-media, assessments of all stripes, resources, wikis and social forums. But what happens when there is no internet? Do those without access have to forgo the opportunities and rich interaction afforded by the learning management system? This presentation, describes a project underway at the University of Southern Queensland to create a version of Moodle that doesn’t require internet access. And explores its possible application to a host of alternative contexts and uses.

Revised defence products list for mandatory Industrial licensingAnkur Gupta
The DIPP (Dept. of Industrial Policy & Promotion) has released a revised list of defence products for which an Industrial License is mandatory. An item that is not a part of this list, will not require an Industrial license. It has been further clarified that 'dual use' items do not require a license.
This is the second iteration that has been made by the DIPP to rationalize the defence products list. The revised list has been drawn from the ITC-HS coding list which is used by the DGFT to track; register India's foreign trade.
We sincerely hope that this revised list makes defence participation, at least at the component and sub-system level, easier and faster. Also there should now be no ambiguity on the fact that 'dual use' items do not require a License and neither do 'services' as it is not a part of the revised list.

Leading Schools with Digital Vision (Memphis Sept 2010)Wesley Fryer
This presentation was shared at the opening keynote at the Martin Institute's Fall 2010 conference in Memphis, Tennessee. Much of the world has gone digital, so must learning at school. Creativity is vital, and good leadership matters. Stagnant, accomodation-level technology integration makes technology investments in our schools a waste of money. School leaders can and should encourage teachers to use digital learning tools in transformative ways to open new doors of opportunity for students as well as parents. By focusing on creating, communicating / sharing, and collaborating, principals can help develop a shared instructional vocabularly with teachers which is focused on student engagement. Without creation, there can be no creativity. How will you let your students create? How will you give students choices? How will your students teach the curriculum? These are essential questions to ask together with teachers, as we seek to effectively (and legally) "talk with media / pictures" and leverage the constructive power of digital media tools for learning inside and outside the classroom.
What am I good at?
What do I enjoy doing?
What values are important to me?
The journey to success begins with the question “What do you want to do?”
Except you no one else can define success for you. For Donald Trump, success meant making lots of money. For Ted Turner, it meant building a media empire that could challenge the major networks. For Albert Einstein it meant unraveling the secrets of the universe. For mother Theresa it meant ministering to the needs of the destitute in India.
You won’t really succeed unless the things you accomplish bring you pleasure and satisfaction.

Leadership in a connected age: Change, challenge and productive chaos!Judy O'Connell
We cannot hold back the forces of change. The 21st century leader recognises that without keeping an eye on the future we may be doomed to remaining a prisoner of the past. With this eye on the future, the agile leader welcomes innovation, embraces change and thrives on chaos. What skills are necessary to survive in the future? What do you need to do today? Trends in knowledge construction, participatory cultures and social networks can give us the blueprint to successful leadership in our connected age. We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
