Venom One Research Paper
Karley Chiodo Health Care Professions Essay: Venom One January 2015 The health care profession I
chose to research is the Miami Dade Fire Rescue Venom Response Program, also known as the Venom
One team. The Venom One team is an elite group of specially trained firefighters/paramedics that is
part of Miami Dade Fire Rescue. They are the only emergency response team specializing in
antivenom treatment, and they run the only anti venom bank open for public use in the United States.
They once had a documentary series on the channel Animal Planet called Swamp Wars. General
employees of Miami Dade Fire Rescue need the following forms of education: State of Florida
Firefighter 11 Certification, State of Florida Paramedic (EMT P) Certification, and a high school
diploma or GED. Favoritism is expressed towards alumni of the ... Show more content on

Additionally, the Venom One team has training in response, management, and treatment of
envenomation. The annual salary of Miami Dade Fire Rescue employees is in the range of $39,436
$68,882. A usual work day for the Venom One team would entail capturing dangerous fauna in Miami
Dade County and delivering antivenom in time to save a life from the effects of an envenomation.
Antivenom is an antidote for venom that counters a specific venom or venom type. It is made to treat
the venom of snakes, arachnids, scorpions, and poisonous amphibians. Also called antivenin, it is
effective on the majority of recipients, but only if it is administered within a small window of
opportunity before the venom does too much damage to or outright kills the victim. Antivenom s

The Governmental Branches Of The United States Essay
Three governmental branches were created by the new constitution: an executive branch, a judicial
branch and a legislative branch. The constitution called for the election of a governor and 24 senators
and identified eligible voters as men who were possessed of freeholds of the value of one hundred
pounds, over and above all debts charged thereon. The constitution also called for the election of 70
assemblymen for 14 declared counties who were to be elected by male inhabitant of full age, who
shall have personally resided within one of the counties of New York State for six months immediately
preceding the day of election. New York also guaranteed the right to trial by jury, which had been
eroded under British rule. The Constitution granted the national government more power than under
the Articles of Confederation. Many Americans were concerned that the national government with its
new powers, as well as the new division of power between the central and state governments, would
threaten liberty. Legislative Branch New York State Legislature refers to the two houses that act as the
state legislature of the U.S. state of New York. The New York Constitution does not designate an
official term for the two houses together. It says only that legislative power is vested in the senate and
assembly. The Legislature, through its varied functions, serves as a check upon the executive authority
of the Governor and helps ensure that the best interests of the State s citizens are

The New England Area And The Chesapeake Area
The English were early settlers in America. Two of their areas of settlement were the New England
area and the Chesapeake area. Even though these two places were settled by the same country, both of
their societies were very different. The main reasons for their differences were their motives for
colonization, slavery, and religion. The main motive of New England was to serve God, and to be a
City upon a hill as said by John Winthrop in the Mayflower Compact, document A, We must consider
that we shall be as a city upon a hill. They eyes of all people are upon us. Document D also states that
they want to share equal planting ground, and that everyone in the colony will have a home.
Document B shows that the colony was structured more towards family life. Quotes like We intend by
God s grace... to produce some Godly and faithful minister with whom we purpose to join in church
covenant to walk in all the ways of Christ, tell you exactly why they are colonizing. Document E says
that they intend to not be selfish, but to put others first to that they can avoid the sin of oppression.
New England in general was very religious, and they, because of that, tended to be more friendly to
each other and also to the Indians than those living in Chesapeake did. The main motive of the
Chesapeake area was to make money and to own land in the new world. This is shown by how their
colonies starved to death in the beginning. When they arrived in America they thought that there

Corporate Social Responsibility On Business And Consumerism
Steve Pollak says that responsible business refers to the practice of conducting business with
consideration for ethical, environmental and community goals in addition to being a good employer
and attempting to make a profit (Pollak, 2010). This essay will be discussing what is meant by the
term Responsible business and what it encompasses. Looking into drivers that affect business and
consumerism, they will be explained through looking at how it has developed over time and looking at
where it is now in relation to business. Considering the different acts and legislation that the
government has put in place, further discussion will continue into how consumerism and government
affect business. Estimations about the future of business and consumerism will be discussed in detail.
For this essay a broad range of literature and websites have been used to gain relevant facts and
information about this topic.
Responsible Business is known to cover a range of issues such as Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR), Sustainability, and Corporate Citizenship. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined as
the obligations of business to pursue those policies, to make those decisions or to follow those lines of
action which are desirable in terms of the objectives and values of our society (Bowen, 1953), as
quoted by (Smith, 2011). Bowen explains that CSR means businesses taking action towards doing
things society wants and needs and accounting for the needs of the people.

An Hour Symbolism
The paper copy of The Story of an Hour symbolized the open window in a more complete manner
than the movie. In the paper copy, the open window symbolizes a new beginning, which can easily be
determined by the view outside the window and Mrs. Mallard s actions. In paragraph number 5, the
author wrote, She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all aquiver
with the new spring life. By using the words aquiver, new, and life, the author indicates a more
positive view and explains how Mrs. Mallard looks forward to a new life. Also, on page 2, Mrs.
Mallard begins to whisper the words free, free, free . By the end of the page the author states that, ...

Melting Point Range Lab Report
The first part of the experiment focused on finding the melting point range of known substances, Trans
cinnamic acid and Urea. The Trans cinnamic acid had a melting point range of 133.0 135.8℃. Urea
had a melting point range of 132.5 135.8℃. However, when a 50/50 mixture was created of the two
substances, the melting point range was 98.8 132℃, 40 degrees less than the two known substances.
This is due to an impurity of the 50/50 mixture. Each substance was acting as an impurity to the other
substance. The expected range for Trans cinnamic acid was 132 135℃ and Urea had an expected
range of 132 133℃. Trans cinnamic acid and Urea are similar compounds but lack identical structure,
causing their combined melting point range to be lower than what ... Show more content on

A ramp rate was first used to obtain the approximate melting point of the unknown before obtaining a
more accurate melting point range of the unknown substance. Based on the rapid heating rate of the
test, it was determined that the unknown substance was either Trans cinnamic acid or Benzoin due to
the wider melting point range at 132℃. After the second, slower heating rate, it was determined that
the unknown might be Benzoin due to the wider melting point range. However, when experimented
with the unknown and the Benzoin, the 50/50 mixture melted before the other 2 compounds had begun
to change states because it was acting as an impurity instead of melting at the same time. If the
unknown and the possibly known substance were the same compound, those two compounds plus the
mixture would have melted at the same time. The Trans cinnamic acid was then compared to the
unknown substance, which resulted in two compounds and the mixture melting at the same time,
which had a melting point range of 133 to 136.2℃. According to the results of the melting point
ranges given, the melting point range of Trans cinnamic acid should be 132 135℃. The experimented
results were 133 136.2℃, which are about a degree higher than what they should be, but the
compounds and the 50/50 mixture all melted at the same time, making the unknown substance Trans

Patriotism In The United States
What is patriotism? Patriotism is the love that people feel for their country. A few examples of
patriotism are: 1. When we stand up for the pledge in the mornings. 2. When we stand up for the
National Anthem . Those are both examples of patriotism. America is a free country, so people should
be able to practice patriotism if they want to, but if they don t want to they shouldn t have to.
If someone wants to express them and their country they should be patriotic. But if they would much
rather not say anything they shouldn t have to. I do personally believe they should at least stand during
the pledge and put their hand on their heart. They don t necessarily have to say the pledge but they do
need to be the least disrespectful by

Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her...
Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her Poem, Because I could not stop for Death
Emily Dickinson grew up in New England in the late 1800s. The nineteenth century was a difficult
time period for the people of America. There was an abundance of war, epidemic, and death. Because
her house was located beside a graveyard, Dickinson saw many of the elaborate funeral processions as
they passed (Murray). Because of these experiences, death became very real to her, and it made a large
impression on her life. Conrad Aikin, one of the many critics of Dickinson s work, believes that:
Death and the problem of life after death obsessed her (15). She had a very peculiar idea about eternity
that was unlike any of the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personification is a type of figurative language one uses to give abstract ideas human like
characteristics. Dickinson uses personification in this poem because it allows the reader to understand
death in a more intimate way. Death became so real to her and to her contemporaries because of the
time in which she lived. Through her life experiences, the poet became intimate with death. Because
of all the disease and epidemics in her lifetime, many of her loved ones passed away. These deaths
were very intense breaks in her life (Murray). Some critics suggest that the death of her cousin was the
inspiration for this poem (Semansky). In any event, death had a large impact on Dickinson s life. This
impact explains why she writes so descriptively about it. In this poem, death is personified as a
gentleman caller taking the lady out for a carriage ride. This personification gives the reader a better
image of the writer s idea of the coming of death.
Dickinson gives Death many characteristics that help to shape our image of him. The line He kindly
stopped for me in the first stanza, immediately gives a male gender (2). This male image gives the
reader the traditional idea of the gentleman caller. This line also reveals a kind quality of death. The
kind quality is important throughout this poem because it allows the speaker to

The Hundred Years War And The Bubonic Plague
The fourteenth century was a time of great change in Western Europe. As Europe was moving out of
the medieval era and into the beginnings of what would become the modern era, many transitions in
government, religion, and art were taking place. Feudalism was on the decline, the Church was losing
its hold over the populace, and the literature of the time was beginning to reflect the reality of personal
experiences of all classes and both genders in the everyday world.
The decline of the feudal system was prompted by changes in warfare during the Hundred Years War
and the Bubonic Plague which struck Europe during the fourteenth century. Both of these events
would have devastating consequences on Europe which would change both society and ... Show more

Rather than promoting the medieval virtues of chivalry, piety and humility, most literature of the
fourteenth century began to portray individuals more realistically using colorful details bringing the
characters of the story to life. Moving away from trite stereotypes of medieval characters, writers of
the fourteenth century brought their writing alive with diverse characters whose personalities were
vivid (369). Literature also began to include commentary on social inequities such as misogyny and
class distinctions. The first feminist writer, Christine de Pisan, appear during the late fourteenth
century and she became a voice for women condemning male misogyny and praising the many
successes of women (365). Literature was also being written in vernacular rather than Latin. This
allowed literature to be more accessible to masses not just to those with an education who were able to

As Trè s saddened blue eyes fell upon the enormous box of photographs, he felt his heart crack right in

fact that he was now busy preparing a funeral for his best friend. His best friend. The words seemed to
mock him. To Trè s utter anguish, that was all he ever had been. All he ever would be. Nothing more,
nothing less. And it was all because Trè had been too afraid to tell him otherwise. Why were those

Student Is The Best Part Of A Life
Many would agree to the fact that student life is indeed the best part of a life, no matter how difficult
and challenging it is. For any student definitely education is the most important aspect of student life
as it is the key to determine student s future. But the environment and surrounding can have a greater
impact on determining the meaning of student life. School and college is the platform for American
students to explore their talent and career. They have the freedom to build do what they want. In case
of Nepal, students join college and school to get a degree so that they could get a job. And they have a
lot of restriction and lack the opportunity to work as per their interest. The lifestyle of students in
Nepal is really different to that of America.
First of all in the student in United States are independent whereas Nepali students are dependent on
their parents .Once Americans attend college majority of them start working. They finance themselves
for their education and take responsibility of their expenses. And still end up getting good grades. The
way students allocate time for work and study makes them well organized and determined. As
students have to fund themselves for their expenses, they value time and money. The independent
nature of students from a very young age teaches them how to live a life and this is one of the reasons
why this nation has developed so much. In contrast Nepali students are totally hooked on parents for
their expenditure until

West Side Story The Musical Essay
West Side Story The Musical
*No Works Cited
West Side Story is one of the most influential musicals of all time. It s integration of dance and song
into the plot was very innovative, because even though it had been done before, it had never been
done this well. Jerome Robbins had thought of an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet to a Broadway
musical in 1949. He began discussions with librettist Arthur Laurents and composer Leonard
Bernstein of a musical called East Side Story, with a plot concentrating on a Catholic girl and a Jewish
boy. Other projects forced the work aside for six years, and when they returned to it, times had
changed. Their idea became West Side Story, (another early title was Gangway!) and the Montague
Capulet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Latin American rhythms gave Bernstein a good musical base to start from, and the whole score
benefited from a jazzy Manhattan feel, which had been inherited from Gershwin, as well as Copland s
romantic Americana feel. Robbins choice of a cast was very meticulously done. He wanted a real
feeling that had never been reached before in Musical history. He wanted actors that were not well
known, and that would get his theme of reality across to the audience. During rehearsals he actually
separated the Jets and the Sharks and didn t allow them to socialize or even talk to one another. He
also didn t allow the actress playing Anybodys to eat lunch with anyone at all. The show opened on
Broadway on September 16, 1957. At first, the critics were not able to fully appreciate the magnitude
of the achievement, but one critic, Brooks Atkinson wrote that the ballets convey the things that
Laurents is inhibited from saying because the characters are so inarticulate. This was done
intentionally as a part of the realistic approach to the musical. By making the teenagers inarticulate,
they were forced to communicate at an emotional level that almost lended itself to an impressionistic
approach. One innovation of West Side Story was that there really wasn t a dance chorus. Each dancer
was assigned a specific character to play, and all of them sang, danced, and spoke. Robbins knew that

Abstract The little ice age gave us a glimpse as to how climate change can affect our society. This is
especially important today as we stand on the brink of another environmental catastrophe. The
acceleration of greenhouse gas output has irrevocably changed how mankind affects the environment.
The lessons that we can learn from studying the little ice age may lead us to understanding what we

revolution, and the Irish potato famine are tied to the little ice age. The little ice age was preceded by a
warmer wetter period that allowed people to become reliant on certain crops and weather patterns for
their survival. Several events occurred within a short period of time to start this cooling period that
lasted 500 years. The warm period called the medieval maximum actually set events in motion. It is
hypothesized that this warm period melted global ice packs, introducing a large volume of fresh water
into the ocean interrupting the thermohaline flow. This stopped warm water from reaching the
northern climates and therefore the atmosphere grew colder because of this. The second circumstance
was the Maunder Minimum. This is a period of dormancy for sunspots. This results in less radiation
reaching earth and less warmth available. The third event was actually a series of events. Volcanic
eruptions started with a regularity of five major eruptions every century. This put a large amount of
ash and water vapor into the atmosphere which in turn reflected the sunlight, deepening the cooling

US Military and the War in Afghanistan
Every day someone s child, spouse, sibling or parent makes the courageous decision to join the United
States Army. This is something less than one percent of Americans ever do, this takes a special person
to become a defender of the Constitution. Of those defenders, how many of them have deployed to a
combat zone, most specifically Afghanistan? The United States military has spent over 10 years in
Afghanistan. Soldiers and families are beaten and tired after this decade of combat and losses no one
can even understand. These losses and brokenness is why it is time to withdraw troops from
Afghanistan and bring them home in a steady and slow pattern or increments. Closing out a combat

The Security Implications Of Environmental Degradation And...
What are the security implications of environmental degradation and resource decline in the Asia
Pacific region? The security implications for global resource decline and total environmental
degradation are numerous and real. If the largest and fastest growing populations are in the Asia
Pacific region then arguably the risk of security compromise through to actual conflict on the basis of
resource shortage due to human induced or natural degradation of the environment is a genuine threat
to regional peace and stability. The question of concern is not just what are the security implications
but importantly how can we equally distribute and correctly maximize the use our natural resources to
sustain ourselves and to enable expansion and growth in our region that in turn drives forward global
economies for the benefit of all human beings. We can t irresponsibly and irrationally waste natural
resources in a way that does little to maximise benefit. However we must also appreciate that
renewable energies and genetically enhanced foods are not advanced enough at this point to be
reliable or cheap enough to sustain mass consumption. This means that we must accept that resources

Dawkins Selfish Gene Theory
We experience the passage of time in our daily lives as if it were an ontologically real entity, however
it is not tangible, and we cannot seem to precisely define its presence. Rather than being ontologically
real or external, I assert that time springs forth from within the individual as a personal synthesis of
our surroundings and consciousness: the vestiges of time s creation are reflected in our minds, our
genetics, and our societies. Thus, by examining how we continue to advance as a species and society,
we can extrapolate the tenets of Darwinian evolution to better understand the origins, and
consequences of the phenomena of time and thought.
Martin Heidegger sums his lecture The Concept of Time with the assertion that Time is Dasein ...

A meme is described by Dawkins as a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation, and the
occurrence of the meme is rampant in contemporary society. Today, tunes, ideas, catch phrases,
clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches, seemingly last no longer than the blink of
an eye before they are replaced by the next new innovation (Dawkins 206). Rather than drifting
toward having the most fit genes, we seem to be shifting toward the most fit memes and ideologies.
Instead of being worker drones fighting to allow the propagation of genes, we offer our lives as a
sacrifice for the propagation of our society s ideology. Consequently, societal and ideological
evolutions appear to closely follow the three main Darwinian tenets of evolution. What are
colloquially referred to as memes (images, typically with a caption, that are valued for their comedic
appeal) will serve as the quintessential example of the psychological phenomenon called memes to
show what I am talking about on a small scale. The first of the Darwinian tenets holds that more
individuals are produced each generation than can survive (Darwin 539, 588). This applies to memes
in the sense that many are produced, but not all are as successful, widely shared, or parodied, as
others. The second and third tenets of Darwinian evolution provide an answer as to which memes do
get transmitted and which do not: variation exists among individuals, and if they vary in a way to
make them more likely to survive, then they will also be more likely to propagate themselves into the
next generation (Darwin 540). In terms of the evolution of memes, this means each meme has its own
traits, and, should one have some quality that makes it more appealing to

Pathogens And Bio Toxins
(1) Define Biological Weapons, how they work, and implications. A biological attack is the
...intentional release of a pathogen or bio toxin....against humans plants or animals... (Forest Howard,
2013, p. 113). These pathogens and bio toxins intentionally released are also known as bioweapons
because they can cause economic catastrophe, illness, deaths, fear, and even disruption to normal day
practices. There are three different categories of pathogens and bio toxins dependent on the level of
threat they present. Category A includes the pathogens and bio toxins that have the greatest threat. As
stated in, they are ...easily disseminated and contagious, high mortality rates, may disrupt society,

Detecting the threat can be a challenge in itself. Some pathogens and bio toxins don t show symptoms
until later down the route; even then, there has to be a pattern of some sorts to be even recognized as a
problem and not an isolated case. Depending on if the pathogen or bio toxin was aimed at humans or
plants or animals, consequences can differ. An attack on agriculture could possibly be devastating on
economics and food supply. Attacking animals could have the same consequences. Humans on the
other hand are exposed to an entirely different consequence, long term health consequences. As stated,
to those exposed to a biological attack and survive, the long term health consequences are unknown

Comparing Linus And Lucy Van Pelt
Linus and Lucy van Pelt are two of the most iconic characters to exist in the comic universe. They are
constantly paired together, and even have a song written about them named Linus and Lucy by Vince
Guaraldi Trio, performed for A Charlie Brown Christmas. This brother and sister dynamic duo is also
known for their subtle similarities and utmost personality differences. Despite being siblings, Linus
and Lucy have extremely opposite personalities. Linus and Lucy van Pelt are both significant
characters created by Charles Schulz. Lucy was introduced in March of 1952, while Linus was
introduced in September of the same year. Lucy, the older sister of Linus, took it as her duty to protect

Lucy is known to the readers as being the crabbiest one of the bunch. She is continuously sassing

addition, the reader learns that Lucy has won the World s Number One Fussbudget Award three years
in a row, which just further proves how crabby she constantly is. When Schroeder continuously denies
her love, she just becomes angrier. There was one day where she was talking with Schroeder and he
was not accepting her affection, and so instead of just respecting his opinions, Lucy made sure that
everyone would know she was in a bad mood for the rest of the day. Sometimes, Lucy is crabby just to
be crabby. Linus made sure to tell her on the one thousandth day in a row she was crabby, and there
was no justifiable reason for her to be so crabby all of those days. Lucy then contemplates whether she
should continue being crabby, and finally decides that she will continue the tradition because she does

King Arthur isn t a strong leader! Everyone believes that King Arthur had a perfect kingdom and that
he was a strong and brave leader and could face any danger and come back alive. In King Arthur and

decisions in the story and lets his emotions get the best of him during drastic times, during the trial of
Guinevere he let Lancelot escape with her even though he knew Lancelot would show up, he let his

she is the fairest, sweetest, loveliest, and purest maiden in all the world. Her will I wed, or die a

effects on change. Power, in organizational change, is having the potential ability to influence
behavior, to change the course of events, to overcome resistance, and to get people to do things that
they would not otherwise do.(1) Understanding when to use a particular type of power base can ease

Video compression utilizes high computational power. For real time requirements of multimedia
applications faster computations need to be performed. To fulfill such requirements of video
compression a parallel computational algorithm can be implemented. In this thesis, the parallelism of
multi core architecture was exploited using block matching algorithm. The test implementation of the
algorithm was done on MATLAB. The parallel model was designed using OpenMP and its
implementation was tested on multi core architectures. The parallel implementation divides a current
frame into independent macro blocks and each block is allotted to OpenMP section which then assigns
it to a thread for performing the computations. The result of the implementation shows speedier
computations with effective utilization of multi cores. This work suggests a promising approach which
can further be developed and exploited. Keywords motion estimation, block matching algorithm, multi

Formal Medical Education In The 1800s
Formal medical education has come a long way. During the colonial period, the main method of
medical instruction was the apprenticeship approach. The length of apprenticeship was approximately
of three years; at the end of that period a certificate was earned (Weiss Lonnquist, 2009). There were
three formal medical schools founded in the 1800 (The University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, and King

How Did Isaac Newton Contribute To Physics
Born on January 4th, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, England, Isaac Newton was an established mathematician
and physician. He is credited as one of the greatest minds of the 17th century Scientific Revolution.
With his discoveries in optics, motion, and mathematics, Newton developed the principles of modern
physics. He also shares credit with Gottfried Leibniz for the creation/development of Calculus.
In 1666, Newton began contributing to the field of optics, first by observing that color was a property
of light by measuring it through a prism. From 1670 to 1672, he lectured at the University of
Cambridge on optics and investigated the refraction of light, demonstrating that the multicolored
spectrum produced by a prism could be recomposed into white light by a lens and a second prism. In
1687, he published his best known work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical
Principles of Natural Philosophy), which has been called the most influential book on physics. The
Principia states Newton s laws of motion, forming the foundation of mechanics, Newton s law of
universal gravitation, and the origin of Kepler s laws of planetary motion. In the Principia Newton

law, known as the Law of Inertia, states that an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an

direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The second law states that acceleration is
produced when a mass is acted on by a force. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the force
required to accelerate it. The third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite
reaction. (Bio.com. A E Networks Television) ( What Did Isaac Newton Discover? ) (Ellis

Canada s Immigration Act And System
Each year lots of new migrants enter the Canadian economy therefore Canada has been classified as a
multi cultural country, and due to this our citizens are more socially and globally aware of what is
going on around them. Canada s immigration Act and system helps our country be more culturally
diverse, it increases economic growth, and make s Canada a safer place to be which we can call our
home. Along with new migrants coming every year, therefore ethnic communities are massively
increasing by population and size.
The Tamil community is a relatively new group. Some Tamils settled in Canada as early as the 1960s,
coming as independent immigrants. The vast majority, however, arrived in Canada after 1983 in the
aftermath of the 1983 Colombo riots in Sri Lanka. In 1983, the Canadian government took Tamils into
Canada under humanitarian and compassionate consideration. At the same time, a visa requirement
was imposed on Sri Lankans, making it very difficult to get here legally. In 1986, Minister s permits
were granted to some refugees allowing them to remain in Canada. Today Tamils continue to make up
one of the largest group of refugees seeking asylum in Canada. Ten percent of the persons seeking
asylum in Canada in 1999 originated from Sri Lanka. The majority of population has made Toronto its
new home with figures as high as 200,000+, of which the population has been divided into suburban

Personal Reflection On My Experience In My Life
Entry 1. I didn t have a goal coming into class at first, but after hurting my toe over the weekend I
decided that I would focus on doing my best at physical activities in spite of it. While I had some
trouble with the walking and running portions of the exercises, I was mostly successful at completing
them all. Also, during the warm up exercises I ve started to be able to relax my body more, I can now
feel my upper arms start to touch the floor when I m laying down instead of just my hands, shoulders
and elbows. This class involved doing some word association games in addition to more work on our
open scenes. I didn t perform any open scenes in front of the class but I did do a few recitals of it with
a partner, including with some circumstances given to us by the professor. While previously I found
that I was very good at imagining my own circumstances for the scene and acting on those, I feel that I
don t do quite as well when being directed. I think that in the future it will be important for me to learn
to naturally use the circumstances I am given in my acting.
Entry 2. Today my main goal was to remain motivated. For whatever reason I started to lose interest in
the class around the time we started our Hey everybody exercise, got better afterwards and then
gradually lost interest when the other students began work on their scenes and monologues until the
end of class; so I suppose that I failed. Today s class included hot clapping, hey everybody, comic

Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past memories as
a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his background. Memories
ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both negative and positive
experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by utilizing numerous devices,
such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of physical interactions that he feels. In
one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests;
snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain
burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a
sense of violence and force. However, Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited
from his father and doesn t want to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone
towards his father in the first stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging,
Under my window, a clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3)
This reference is defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood
memory sparks deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and
sight to feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the
window proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme
of memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an important
experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and connects this to the
control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal point rests on his rustic Irish
past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past memory frames the roots and basis in
which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging through the linkage of his father and
grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this
sentiment, digging

Density Lab Conclusions
Results and Conclusions: Density measures the mass of substance per unit of volume. Density of
solids is measured in grams/cM3. Density of liquids is measured in grams/mL. Density of gases is
measured in grams/Liter. Specific Gravity is when the density of many substances are compared are
compared to the density of water which is 1 gram/cM3. If a substance has a density less than 1
gram/cM3, it will float but if the density is greater than
1 gram/cM3, it will sink.
In procedure A, samples 1 4 all had densities that were less than 1g/cM3. However, sample 5 had a
density greater than 1g/cM3. Samples 1 4 would all float while sample 5 would sink.
In procedure B, the mass of the pebble must be found before determining the volume because when

Macular Degeneration in Two Forms Essay
Macular Degeneration in Two Forms
Macular Degeneration is a disease of the eye that gradually causes loss of a person s central vision.
Approximately 1.75 million Americans suffer from vision loss associated with the disease (All About
Vision 1). The leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 60, Macular Degeneration, exists
in two types (National Eye Institute 1). Both the wet and dry versions of the disease have similarities
in risk factors, but differ in symptoms and treatments.
Although the causes of each type of the Macular Degeneration are different, the risk factors are
essentially the same. The wet form of the disease is caused by small blood vessels that grow beneath
the retina. The blood vessels leak blood and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dry form is broken down into three stages; Early, Intermediate, and Advanced (National Eye
Institute 3). In the Early stage, people have several small or few medium yellow deposits under the
retina called drusen. This stage shows no symptoms or vision loss. During the second stage,
Intermediate, more medium or even large deposits happen. As this happens, a blurred spot can develop
and more light could be needed for reading. Lastly, in the Advanced stage, a breakdown of light
sensitive cells and tissue causes the blurred spot to enlarge and darken. In this latter stage, facial
recognition is unlikely unless the person is extremely close. Either form of Macular Degeneration can
only be detected by thorough eye exams. The exam should include visual acuity, which measures sight
at varied distance intervals. Also, dilation of the eyes will allow an ophthalmologist to check the retina
and optic nerve. An instrument called a Tonometer will measure pressure within the eyes (National
Eye Institute 6).
Treatment options exist for the wet type; however, the dry has none. The wet version of Macular
Degeneration can be treated with laser surgery, photodynamic therapy, and direct injections in order to
try to slow the progression. Laser surgery is used to subdue the leaking blood vessels. During this
procedure, healthy blood vessels and tissue may inadvertently be damaged.

lot of people and protestants. The litany is still used today. (www.historylearningsite.co.uk) Cranmer
also presented and supported the Great Bible in 1539. Many people tried to bring Cranmer down and
make people turn against him, no one was able to. Many people wanted to get rid of his acts and

  • 2. Venom One Research Paper Karley Chiodo Health Care Professions Essay: Venom One January 2015 The health care profession I chose to research is the Miami Dade Fire Rescue Venom Response Program, also known as the Venom One team. The Venom One team is an elite group of specially trained firefighters/paramedics that is part of Miami Dade Fire Rescue. They are the only emergency response team specializing in antivenom treatment, and they run the only anti venom bank open for public use in the United States. They once had a documentary series on the channel Animal Planet called Swamp Wars. General employees of Miami Dade Fire Rescue need the following forms of education: State of Florida Firefighter 11 Certification, State of Florida Paramedic (EMT P) Certification, and a high school diploma or GED. Favoritism is expressed towards alumni of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the Venom One team has training in response, management, and treatment of envenomation. The annual salary of Miami Dade Fire Rescue employees is in the range of $39,436 $68,882. A usual work day for the Venom One team would entail capturing dangerous fauna in Miami Dade County and delivering antivenom in time to save a life from the effects of an envenomation. Antivenom is an antidote for venom that counters a specific venom or venom type. It is made to treat the venom of snakes, arachnids, scorpions, and poisonous amphibians. Also called antivenin, it is effective on the majority of recipients, but only if it is administered within a small window of opportunity before the venom does too much damage to or outright kills the victim. Antivenom s manufacturing is similar to a vaccination. A vertebrate, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Governmental Branches Of The United States Essay Three governmental branches were created by the new constitution: an executive branch, a judicial branch and a legislative branch. The constitution called for the election of a governor and 24 senators and identified eligible voters as men who were possessed of freeholds of the value of one hundred pounds, over and above all debts charged thereon. The constitution also called for the election of 70 assemblymen for 14 declared counties who were to be elected by male inhabitant of full age, who shall have personally resided within one of the counties of New York State for six months immediately preceding the day of election. New York also guaranteed the right to trial by jury, which had been eroded under British rule. The Constitution granted the national government more power than under the Articles of Confederation. Many Americans were concerned that the national government with its new powers, as well as the new division of power between the central and state governments, would threaten liberty. Legislative Branch New York State Legislature refers to the two houses that act as the state legislature of the U.S. state of New York. The New York Constitution does not designate an official term for the two houses together. It says only that legislative power is vested in the senate and assembly. The Legislature, through its varied functions, serves as a check upon the executive authority of the Governor and helps ensure that the best interests of the State s citizens are ... • 4. The New England Area And The Chesapeake Area The English were early settlers in America. Two of their areas of settlement were the New England area and the Chesapeake area. Even though these two places were settled by the same country, both of their societies were very different. The main reasons for their differences were their motives for colonization, slavery, and religion. The main motive of New England was to serve God, and to be a City upon a hill as said by John Winthrop in the Mayflower Compact, document A, We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. They eyes of all people are upon us. Document D also states that they want to share equal planting ground, and that everyone in the colony will have a home. Document B shows that the colony was structured more towards family life. Quotes like We intend by God s grace... to produce some Godly and faithful minister with whom we purpose to join in church covenant to walk in all the ways of Christ, tell you exactly why they are colonizing. Document E says that they intend to not be selfish, but to put others first to that they can avoid the sin of oppression. New England in general was very religious, and they, because of that, tended to be more friendly to each other and also to the Indians than those living in Chesapeake did. The main motive of the Chesapeake area was to make money and to own land in the new world. This is shown by how their colonies starved to death in the beginning. When they arrived in America they thought that there would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Corporate Social Responsibility On Business And Consumerism Steve Pollak says that responsible business refers to the practice of conducting business with consideration for ethical, environmental and community goals in addition to being a good employer and attempting to make a profit (Pollak, 2010). This essay will be discussing what is meant by the term Responsible business and what it encompasses. Looking into drivers that affect business and consumerism, they will be explained through looking at how it has developed over time and looking at where it is now in relation to business. Considering the different acts and legislation that the government has put in place, further discussion will continue into how consumerism and government affect business. Estimations about the future of business and consumerism will be discussed in detail. For this essay a broad range of literature and websites have been used to gain relevant facts and information about this topic. Responsible Business is known to cover a range of issues such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainability, and Corporate Citizenship. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined as the obligations of business to pursue those policies, to make those decisions or to follow those lines of action which are desirable in terms of the objectives and values of our society (Bowen, 1953), as quoted by (Smith, 2011). In the paper copy, the open window symbolizes a new beginning, which can easily be determined by the view outside the window and Mrs. Mallard s actions. In paragraph number 5, the author wrote, She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life. By using the words aquiver, new, and life, the author indicates a more positive view and explains how Mrs. Mallard looks forward to a new life. • 7. Melting Point Range Lab Report The first part of the experiment focused on finding the melting point range of known substances, Trans cinnamic acid and Urea. The Trans cinnamic acid had a melting point range of 133.0 135.8℃. Urea had a melting point range of 132.5 135.8℃. However, when a 50/50 mixture was created of the two substances, the melting point range was 98.8 132℃, 40 degrees less than the two known substances. This is due to an impurity of the 50/50 mixture. Each substance was acting as an impurity to the other substance. The expected range for Trans cinnamic acid was 132 135℃ and Urea had an expected range of 132 133℃. Trans cinnamic acid and Urea are similar compounds but lack identical structure, causing their combined melting point range to be lower than what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A ramp rate was first used to obtain the approximate melting point of the unknown before obtaining a more accurate melting point range of the unknown substance. Based on the rapid heating rate of the test, it was determined that the unknown substance was either Trans cinnamic acid or Benzoin due to the wider melting point range at 132℃. After the second, slower heating rate, it was determined that the unknown might be Benzoin due to the wider melting point range. However, when experimented with the unknown and the Benzoin, the 50/50 mixture melted before the other 2 compounds had begun to change states because it was acting as an impurity instead of melting at the same time. If the unknown and the possibly known substance were the same compound, those two compounds plus the mixture would have melted at the same time. The Trans cinnamic acid was then compared to the unknown substance, which resulted in two compounds and the mixture melting at the same time, which had a melting point range of 133 to 136.2℃. According to the results of the melting point ranges given, the melting point range of Trans cinnamic acid should be 132 135℃. The experimented results were 133 136.2℃, which are about a degree higher than what they should be, but the compounds and the 50/50 mixture all melted at the same time, making the unknown substance Trans cinnamic ... • 8. Patriotism In The United States What is patriotism? Patriotism is the love that people feel for their country. A few examples of patriotism are: 1. When we stand up for the pledge in the mornings. 2. When we stand up for the National Anthem . Those are both examples of patriotism. America is a free country, so people should be able to practice patriotism if they want to, but if they don t want to they shouldn t have to. If someone wants to express them and their country they should be patriotic. But if they would much rather not say anything they shouldn t have to. I do personally believe they should at least stand during the pledge and put their hand on their heart. They don t necessarily have to say the pledge but they do need to be the least disrespectful by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her... Emily Dickinson s Feelings About Death Revealed in Her Poem, Because I could not stop for Death Emily Dickinson grew up in New England in the late 1800s. The nineteenth century was a difficult time period for the people of America. There was an abundance of war, epidemic, and death. Because her house was located beside a graveyard, Dickinson saw many of the elaborate funeral processions as they passed (Murray). Because of these experiences, death became very real to her, and it made a large impression on her life. Conrad Aikin, one of the many critics of Dickinson s work, believes that: Death and the problem of life after death obsessed her (15). She had a very peculiar idea about eternity that was unlike any of the traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personification is a type of figurative language one uses to give abstract ideas human like characteristics. Dickinson uses personification in this poem because it allows the reader to understand death in a more intimate way. Death became so real to her and to her contemporaries because of the time in which she lived. Through her life experiences, the poet became intimate with death. Because of all the disease and epidemics in her lifetime, many of her loved ones passed away. These deaths were very intense breaks in her life (Murray). Some critics suggest that the death of her cousin was the inspiration for this poem (Semansky). In any event, death had a large impact on Dickinson s life. This impact explains why she writes so descriptively about it. In this poem, death is personified as a gentleman caller taking the lady out for a carriage ride. This personification gives the reader a better image of the writer s idea of the coming of death. Dickinson gives Death many characteristics that help to shape our image of him. The line He kindly stopped for me in the first stanza, immediately gives a male gender (2). This male image gives the reader the traditional idea of the gentleman caller. This line also reveals a kind quality of death. The kind quality is important throughout this poem because it allows the speaker to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literature also began to include commentary on social inequities such as misogyny and class distinctions. The first feminist writer, Christine de Pisan, appear during the late fourteenth century and she became a voice for women condemning male misogyny and praising the many successes of women (365). For any student definitely education is the most important aspect of student life as it is the key to determine student s future. But the environment and surrounding can have a greater impact on determining the meaning of student life. School and college is the platform for American students to explore their talent and career. They have the freedom to build do what they want. In case of Nepal, students join college and school to get a degree so that they could get a job. And they have a lot of restriction and lack the opportunity to work as per their interest. The lifestyle of students in Nepal is really different to that of America. First of all in the student in United States are independent whereas Nepali students are dependent on their parents .Once Americans attend college majority of them start working. They finance themselves for their education and take responsibility of their expenses. And still end up getting good grades. The way students allocate time for work and study makes them well organized and determined. As students have to fund themselves for their expenses, they value time and money. It s integration of dance and song into the plot was very innovative, because even though it had been done before, it had never been done this well. Jerome Robbins had thought of an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet to a Broadway musical in 1949. He began discussions with librettist Arthur Laurents and composer Leonard Bernstein of a musical called East Side Story, with a plot concentrating on a Catholic girl and a Jewish boy. Other projects forced the work aside for six years, and when they returned to it, times had changed. Their idea became West Side Story, (another early title was Gangway!) and the Montague Capulet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Latin American rhythms gave Bernstein a good musical base to start from, and the whole score benefited from a jazzy Manhattan feel, which had been inherited from Gershwin, as well as Copland s romantic Americana feel. Robbins choice of a cast was very meticulously done. He wanted a real feeling that had never been reached before in Musical history. He wanted actors that were not well known, and that would get his theme of reality across to the audience. During rehearsals he actually separated the Jets and the Sharks and didn t allow them to socialize or even talk to one another. He also didn t allow the actress playing Anybodys to eat lunch with anyone at all. The show opened on Broadway on September 16, 1957. At first, the critics were not able to fully appreciate the magnitude of the achievement, but one critic, Brooks Atkinson wrote that the ballets convey the things that Laurents is inhibited from saying because the characters are so inarticulate. This was done intentionally as a part of the realistic approach to the musical. By making the teenagers inarticulate, they were forced to communicate at an emotional level that almost lended itself to an impressionistic approach. One innovation of West Side Story was that there really wasn t a dance chorus. Each dancer was assigned a specific character to play, and all of them sang, danced, and spoke. Robbins knew that by ... Several events occurred within a short period of time to start this cooling period that lasted 500 years. The warm period called the medieval maximum actually set events in motion. It is hypothesized that this warm period melted global ice packs, introducing a large volume of fresh water into the ocean interrupting the thermohaline flow. This stopped warm water from reaching the northern climates and therefore the atmosphere grew colder because of this. The second circumstance was the Maunder Minimum. This is a period of dormancy for sunspots. This results in less radiation reaching earth and less warmth available. The third event was actually a series of events. The security implications for global resource decline and total environmental degradation are numerous and real. If the largest and fastest growing populations are in the Asia Pacific region then arguably the risk of security compromise through to actual conflict on the basis of resource shortage due to human induced or natural degradation of the environment is a genuine threat to regional peace and stability. The question of concern is not just what are the security implications but importantly how can we equally distribute and correctly maximize the use our natural resources to sustain ourselves and to enable expansion and growth in our region that in turn drives forward global economies for the benefit of all human beings. We can t irresponsibly and irrationally waste natural resources in a way that does little to maximise benefit. However we must also appreciate that renewable energies and genetically enhanced foods are not advanced enough at this point to be reliable or cheap enough to sustain mass consumption. This means that we must accept that resources will be used at the necessary rate and that the reality is we just might run out of one resource or another before too long if appropriate interventions are not implemented in a timely manner. Dawkins Selfish Gene Theory We experience the passage of time in our daily lives as if it were an ontologically real entity, however it is not tangible, and we cannot seem to precisely define its presence. Rather than being ontologically real or external, I assert that time springs forth from within the individual as a personal synthesis of our surroundings and consciousness: the vestiges of time s creation are reflected in our minds, our genetics, and our societies. Thus, by examining how we continue to advance as a species and society, we can extrapolate the tenets of Darwinian evolution to better understand the origins, and consequences of the phenomena of time and thought. A meme is described by Dawkins as a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation, and the occurrence of the meme is rampant in contemporary society. Today, tunes, ideas, catch phrases, clothes fashions, ways of making pots or of building arches, seemingly last no longer than the blink of an eye before they are replaced by the next new innovation (Dawkins 206). Rather than drifting toward having the most fit genes, we seem to be shifting toward the most fit memes and ideologies. Instead of being worker drones fighting to allow the propagation of genes, we offer our lives as a sacrifice for the propagation of our society s ideology. Consequently, societal and ideological evolutions appear to closely follow the three main Darwinian tenets of evolution. What are colloquially referred to as memes (images, typically with a caption, that are valued for their comedic appeal) will serve as the quintessential example of the psychological phenomenon called memes to show what I am talking about on a small scale. The first of the Darwinian tenets holds that more individuals are produced each generation than can survive (Darwin 539, 588). This applies to memes in the sense that many are produced, but not all are as successful, widely shared, or parodied, as others. The second and third tenets of Darwinian evolution provide an answer as to which memes do get transmitted and which do not: variation exists among individuals, and if they vary in a way to make them more likely to survive, then they will also be more likely to propagate themselves into the next generation (Darwin 540). In terms of the evolution of memes, this means each meme has its own traits, and, should one have some quality that makes it more appealing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For real time requirements of multimedia applications faster computations need to be performed. To fulfill such requirements of video compression a parallel computational algorithm can be implemented. In this thesis, the parallelism of multi core architecture was exploited using block matching algorithm. The test implementation of the algorithm was done on MATLAB. The parallel model was designed using OpenMP and its implementation was tested on multi core architectures. The parallel implementation divides a current frame into independent macro blocks and each block is allotted to OpenMP section which then assigns it to a thread for performing the computations. The result of the implementation shows speedier computations with effective utilization of multi cores. This work suggests a promising approach which can further be developed and exploited. He also shares credit with Gottfried Leibniz for the creation/development of Calculus. In 1666, Newton began contributing to the field of optics, first by observing that color was a property of light by measuring it through a prism. From 1670 to 1672, he lectured at the University of Cambridge on optics and investigated the refraction of light, demonstrating that the multicolored spectrum produced by a prism could be recomposed into white light by a lens and a second prism. In 1687, he published his best known work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), which has been called the most influential book on physics. The Principia states Newton s laws of motion, forming the foundation of mechanics, Newton s law of universal gravitation, and the origin of Kepler s laws of planetary motion. In the Principia Newton showed how his principle of universal gravitation provided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first law, known as the Law of Inertia, states that an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. The second law states that acceleration is produced when a mass is acted on by a force. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the force required to accelerate it. The third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. (Bio.com. A E Networks Television) ( What Did Isaac Newton Discover? ) (Ellis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Canada s Immigration Act And System Each year lots of new migrants enter the Canadian economy therefore Canada has been classified as a multi cultural country, and due to this our citizens are more socially and globally aware of what is going on around them. Canada s immigration Act and system helps our country be more culturally diverse, it increases economic growth, and make s Canada a safer place to be which we can call our home. Along with new migrants coming every year, therefore ethnic communities are massively increasing by population and size. The Tamil community is a relatively new group. Some Tamils settled in Canada as early as the 1960s, coming as independent immigrants. The vast majority, however, arrived in Canada after 1983 in the aftermath of the 1983 Colombo riots in Sri Lanka. In 1983, the Canadian government took Tamils into Canada under humanitarian and compassionate consideration. At the same time, a visa requirement was imposed on Sri Lankans, making it very difficult to get here legally. In 1986, Minister s permits were granted to some refugees allowing them to remain in Canada. Today Tamils continue to make up one of the largest group of refugees seeking asylum in Canada. Ten percent of the persons seeking asylum in Canada in 1999 originated from Sri Lanka. The majority of population has made Toronto its new home with figures as high as 200,000+, of which the population has been divided into suburban areas that consist of City of Toronto (Scarborough Community), Markham, Vaughan, ... • 34. Personal Reflection On My Experience In My Life Entry 1. I didn t have a goal coming into class at first, but after hurting my toe over the weekend I decided that I would focus on doing my best at physical activities in spite of it. While I had some trouble with the walking and running portions of the exercises, I was mostly successful at completing them all. Also, during the warm up exercises I ve started to be able to relax my body more, I can now feel my upper arms start to touch the floor when I m laying down instead of just my hands, shoulders and elbows. This class involved doing some word association games in addition to more work on our open scenes. I didn t perform any open scenes in front of the class but I did do a few recitals of it with a partner, including with some circumstances given to us by the professor. While previously I found that I was very good at imagining my own circumstances for the scene and acting on those, I feel that I don t do quite as well when being directed. I think that in the future it will be important for me to learn to naturally use the circumstances I am given in my acting. Entry 2. Today my main goal was to remain motivated. For whatever reason I started to lose interest in the class around the time we started our Hey everybody exercise, got better afterwards and then gradually lost interest when the other students began work on their scenes and monologues until the end of class; so I suppose that I failed. Today s class included hot clapping, hey everybody, comic strip, night ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past memories as a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his background. Memories ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both negative and positive experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by utilizing numerous devices, such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of physical interactions that he feels. In one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a sense of violence and force. However, Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited from his father and doesn t want to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone towards his father in the first stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging, Under my window, a clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3) This reference is defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood memory sparks deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and sight to feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the window proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme of memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an important experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and connects this to the control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal point rests on his rustic Irish past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past memory frames the roots and basis in which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging through the linkage of his father and grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this sentiment, digging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Density Lab Conclusions Results and Conclusions: Density measures the mass of substance per unit of volume. Density of solids is measured in grams/cM3. Density of liquids is measured in grams/mL. Density of gases is measured in grams/Liter. Specific Gravity is when the density of many substances are compared are compared to the density of water which is 1 gram/cM3. If a substance has a density less than 1 gram/cM3, it will float but if the density is greater than 1 gram/cM3, it will sink. In procedure A, samples 1 4 all had densities that were less than 1g/cM3. However, sample 5 had a density greater than 1g/cM3. Samples 1 4 would all float while sample 5 would sink. In procedure B, the mass of the pebble must be found before determining the volume because when put in water, the rocks absorb some of the water. This is called porous and it can affect the weight which will affect the density. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The data was recorded immediately so it would not be forgotten. • 37. Macular Degeneration in Two Forms Essay Macular Degeneration in Two Forms Macular Degeneration is a disease of the eye that gradually causes loss of a person s central vision. Approximately 1.75 million Americans suffer from vision loss associated with the disease (All About Vision 1). The leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 60, Macular Degeneration, exists in two types (National Eye Institute 1). Both the wet and dry versions of the disease have similarities in risk factors, but differ in symptoms and treatments. Although the causes of each type of the Macular Degeneration are different, the risk factors are essentially the same. The wet form of the disease is caused by small blood vessels that grow beneath the retina. The blood vessels leak blood and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dry form is broken down into three stages; Early, Intermediate, and Advanced (National Eye Institute 3). In the Early stage, people have several small or few medium yellow deposits under the retina called drusen. This stage shows no symptoms or vision loss. During the second stage, Intermediate, more medium or even large deposits happen. As this happens, a blurred spot can develop and more light could be needed for reading. Lastly, in the Advanced stage, a breakdown of light sensitive cells and tissue causes the blurred spot to enlarge and darken. In this latter stage, facial recognition is unlikely unless the person is extremely close. Either form of Macular Degeneration can only be detected by thorough eye exams. The exam should include visual acuity, which measures sight at varied distance intervals. Also, dilation of the eyes will allow an ophthalmologist to check the retina and optic nerve. An instrument called a Tonometer will measure pressure within the eyes (National Eye Institute 6). Treatment options exist for the wet type; however, the dry has none. The wet version of Macular Degeneration can be treated with laser surgery, photodynamic therapy, and direct injections in order to try to slow the progression. Laser surgery is used to subdue the leaking blood vessels. During this procedure, healthy blood vessels and tissue may inadvertently be damaged. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The schoolteacher believes that Sethe had gone wild since his nephew had overbeat her (149). Sethe will never be the same person as she was before: she has transformed into an over beaten hound after the schoolteacher s nephew sucked the milk from her breast.
