Essay on Bricolage Fashion
This essay is going to look at the term Bricolage and how it links to postmodernism and the term
Retro. Non moderns use bricolage to fashion new tools from available objects...Consumers fashion
new identities from the resources available to them (Ratneshwar, 2000:132). Fashion designers find
their inspiration from the past and combine styles to create new designs that are seen as different and
inventive. However, many people argue that so many designers use materials, looks and styles from
the past that they are re using fashion in a continuous cycle and are no longer being original and
creative. I will be looking at fashion designer Gareth Pugh to explain more about the term bricolage

The Three Main Causes Of The Civil War
The North and South citizens were divided because of their huge differences. The tension between
them consisted of having disagreements on slavery, economical and political differences. The hate and
violence against each other later on led to the infamous Civil War. The Civil War, also known as the
War Between States , began in 1861 and lasted for four deadly years. This war of disputes and misery
led to the division of the two nations, the North and the South. The three main causes of the Civil War
between the North and the South were politics, economy, and slavery. The first main cause of the Civil
War was conflict between the North and the South about politics. During the election of 1860,
Abraham Lincoln was a candidate of the North while J.C. Breckinridge was the candidate of the
South. Abraham Lincoln successfully won with 180 electoral votes. This caused tension between the
North and the South because Abraham Lincoln was against the expansion of slavery (Doc N). The
Kansas Nebraska Act is an example of this. The Missouri Compromise Line of 1820 was repealed
when the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1845 was passed. The act organized territories on the principle of
popular sovereignty. This created a lot of stir between the two nations. In a cartoon created by Harry T.
Peters in 1856, it is shown that Preston Brooks, a member of the House of Representatives, attacking
Senator Charles Sumner, an abolitionist from Massachusetts, with a cane. This happened after Sumner

Orozco s Accomplishments
In a country with such a diverse cultural history as Mexico, how can an artist work without political
affinities? Investigating muralist José Clemente Orozco s career, one sees from critic and self written
testimonies that Orozco purported to paint murals with neither enthusiasm, nor...despair to eschew
categorization so that the public could see them and not hear about them from guides. Simply, Orozco
implied that he valued impartiality instead of zealous didacticism in his works. However, I argue that
Orozco s murals often featured religious, economic, and racial motifs, and while Orozco may have
sought to avoid emotion in his art, he did respect certain Christian and native spiritual figures and
satirize capitalist characters to critique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, his 1923 4 mural Maternity featured a blonde haired, white skinned female figure
surrounded by angels, which undoubtedly shows his acceptance of divine calmness from Christian
beliefs. Since Orozco allows viewers to see that no subject suffers in the work, he may suggest that
faith could lead to happiness amidst oppression in Mexico. Moreover, Orozco also paid homage to
indigenous prayer in his 1925 mural Omniscience by placing a native man looking to the sky with
hands clasped on his knees in the middle of the painting. Certainly, Orozco validates indigenous belief
systems by showing the man s flexed muscles and closed eyes as he prays. Lastly, Orozco s 1923 4
piece Banquet of the Rich shows a group of élite men and women laughing over drinks at a table
while two angry native men labor in the foreground. Had Orozco believed that wealthy farm owners
and industrial executives did not subjugate indigenous laborers, he would not have featured the jovial
élite man pointing his finger at the laborers while laughing. Examining this cross section of Orozco s
work, I find that he appreciated nonviolent spirituality while realizing that extreme wealth inequalities

Sports Athletes Should Not Be Better Than Their Opponent
Introduction In the world of sports, competitive athletes are willing to do whatever is necessary to be
better than their opponent. The nature of the competitive drive in some athletes is precisely what
separates the average from the elite. Compared to their novice counterparts, elite athletes usually have
a more extensive knowledge base of sport specific information and are more adept at using said
knowledge efficiently to identify, remember and manipulate relevant information in their specialist
sport (Swann, Moran, Piggott, 2015). In order to achieve max performance, an elite athlete must be
skilled in their craft, meaning they are able to produce the skills needed reliably, on demand, and with
very little luck. Demonstrating their skill ability by maximizing the certainty of the intended goal
achievement, minimizing their energy expenditure (physically and mentally), and minimizing the time
used (Schmidt Lee, 2015). An athletes cognitive performance will ultimately reflect in their physical
capabilities. In today s society, elite athletes and their followers are consumed with idea of being even
bigger, even faster, and even stronger than ever before. To keep up with the demands elite athletes face
its critical to develop new training methods, allowing athletes to set and surpass new standards of
success. The intense demands required of elite level athletes to excel in their field makes it

A School For Unusual Girls
Okay, I don t know what else to say besides the fact that I absolutely loved this book. I really enjoy
books that take place in historical settings, like The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare and
His Fair Assassin series by Robin LaFevers. This book was sort of a mix between the two. Set in 1814
London, we are introduced to Georgiana Fitzwilliam who is currently trapped in a carriage with her
parents on their way to this infamous boarding school. From what we learn in the synopsis, this
boarding school that is supposed to reform young ladies into marriageable quality through various
tactics not excluding torture. But, that is only the sales pitch given to the parents of these unusual girls.

The story is so rich and vivid in its descriptions and characters that you can t help but be put under a

There is so much mystery and danger throughout the book, it is so deceptively written than you don t
realize things until it is far too late sort of like Georgie. I would recommend this to any fans of Grave
Mercy and Clockwork Angel, or to anyone who enjoys spy novels and historical fiction. This book is
much more than just a spy novel, at least in my opinion, but it seems a somewhat fitting classification.
I would say this book is appropriate for ages thirteen and up, the proper decorum of the characters and
situations eliminates a lot of adult content which makes it appropriate for younger readers. There is
still a lot that goes on, and the few kisses that are there are intense. This will be one of the series I
follow until completion and cry between breaks in the books this has become a new obsession. Well

the binaries of race, class, and gender in America using satire and the context of animated horror as a
methodology for enlightening their audience on their perspectives.
From the start of the movie, the dichotomy of blackness and whiteness is paramount in shaping the
plot of the movie. In the first scene, we are introduced to Chris Washington,

How Did The Industrial Revolution Affect China s Tea Trade
As one of the most popular and oldest beverage, tea has shown its splendor whilst making its mark in
history. Tea significantly impacted global trade over the past few centuries, spreading from China to
specifically, Great Britain. The tea trade had a major social impact among women, who broke away
from their domestic lives and explored society to become more socially involved. In addition, tea
impacted Britain s economy by promoting industrialization which was thriving in Britain. Meanwhile,
China faced great setbacks as dominance over the tea trade was taken by the British East India
Company, having a negative economic impact. The tea trade also politically impacted China as the

A major change was the way in which tea was consumed and served. The Chinese originally drank tea
in its simplicity, enhancing the natural flavors of the brew. They drank the tea in handless cups that
could be held without the dangers of getting burnt since Chinese tea was served lukewarm. However,
the British did not follow the Chinese tradition and rather, changed it to meet their own cultural
standards. The British preferred to flavor their tea with sugar and milk so that the drink was
sweetened, less bitter, and creamier. They drank out of cups with handles, known as teacups, because
British tea had to be served hot since that is the condition in which sugar melts the best. In addition,
the saucer and teaspoon were created to accommodate the British s way of drinking tea (Dolin 53).
Such changes in tradition occurred because the British were more open to foreign goods such as sugar,
whereas China tried to isolate themselves from foreign products, because the Chinese believed it
would not benefit them (Standage). The common British people was also influenced by Queen
Catherine of Braganza who introduced the custom of sipping tea in small cups, teacups, and created an
element of prestige around tea that all of the aristocrats wanted to take part in (Standage). Another
continuity was the hosting of events that focused on the essence of tea. The British began to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Letter From Birmingham Jail
In the midst of the Civil Rights movement, Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. found himself in a jail cell
in Birmingham, Alabama, one of the most segregated cities in the United States at the time. While in
that jail cell, King wrote Letter from Birmingham Jail in response to the city s religious leaders.
Through his use of ethos, pathos, and logos, King made a thought provoking and powerful argument
for the Civil Rights movement which continues to inspire change in the hearts of his audience, both
implied and actual. An effective strategy used by King was his careful placement and articulation of
each paragraph in the letter. Had King decided to go straight into defending his actions, the letter
would not have been well regarded. He used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the powerful personal experiences that King shares in the letter serve as emotional appeals, they
also serve as a type of evidence through personal experience. King has the gift of story telling in a
way that makes a person feel all of the same emotions that must have been felt during those hard
times. King makes the reader feel the frustration of those moments when his community was told to
wait for a better, more convenient time. He makes the reader feel the sorrow of the moments when his
daughter asks to go to a park but they are not allowed because it is for whites only, or when his son
asks why they are treated different for their skin color. He makes a person feel the horror that must
have been felt watching families get hurt or killed by angry mobs or policemen. It is through this use
of pathos that King continues to inspire humanity to do better. Interwoven within the web of powerful
emotion is an eye opening amount of logic. King used pathos to open minds to the idea of change.
Between the use of pathos, the logic starts to flow in. He connected with the religious leaders through
his chosen evidence. Each of King s claims are carefully supported by examples that he drew from
Christianity or through historical evidence that he ties to Christian values. He brought it all together
through connecting it with something he knew his implied audience would be able to understand. The

Monster Vs. Monsters In Beowulf

had to face his monsters, so does each man living in today s world, but he was strong and overcame
them. Everyone often faces some kind of bloody challenge like beowulf did, in which one of the
biggest one today is suicide. Because, of our society today, many challenges are faced like in beowulf

It is clear that there is a disputed debate about the role of women in the Second World War. Therefore
undeniably this historiography of the impact of the Second World War on women is considered as one
of the major changes over time, in relation of methodology, theoretical viewpoints and interpretations
of this subject. During the early 1950s 1960s, sociologists and social historians were increasingly
interested in the Second World War and its effect on social change. As stated before historians, were
mostly concerned with the military and political aspects of the world and were really blind side
disregarding the social aspects of war. A range of scholars such as Richard Titmuss, Arthur Marwick,
Alva Myrdal and Viola Klein concentrated on women and war, and the benefits the war had on women
in terms of liberating them. Richard Titmuss was one of the first Historians to examine the impact of
the Second World War on women. He proposed that with the new profound reliance on women in the

woman who were left ultimately to hold Britain together. This reliance came with a new sense of
inspiration and the development of social policies, which eventually heightened women s standings as

He knows his brother has as problem with drug addiction, but he does not want to see him give up
without a fight. He cares about his brother, which is what Sonny has needed all this time; an older
brother to tell him that he should not give up, that he should make smart decisions and make
something of himself. The narrator is trying to make up for all the time apart that he has spent from
Sonny during his time of need, and perhaps that is his way of making himself feel better about
abandoning his younger brother so many years before. Sonny has had a problem with drugs for some
time, which leads him having to serve a jail sentence. The narrator tries to stay oblivious, which is part
of the reason he turned his back on his younger brother for so many years. I couldn t believe it: but
what I mean by that is that I couldn t find any room for it anywhere inside of me. I had kept it outside

putting them away (831). The way that he dealt with his younger brother s problems was by turning
his back on them. He knew that Sonny was dealing with heavy problems, but chose to look past them

was wrong of him to do. The narrator goes on to say, I didn t want to believe that I d ever see my

The Conflict Of War And Peace
Intro
In todays society there are many conflicts,or disagreements these conflicts and disagreements need to
be solved. Some can be felt with by simply talking it out but others are on a global scale, and these
will need more than talking to settle. Some conflicts on a global scale can lead to war, and others can
be negotiated using peace. If you believe in only peace then you are a pacifist. Today s society has war
and peace as a solution to conflict but it is in everyones beliefs and values that will help them to form
their own opinion on weather they are a pacifist or they believe in only war or bits of both, it is
different for everyone .
P1 war
War is a large scaled, deadly, serious and emotional battle of conflict between two or more sides. War
involves weapons that kill, so the survivors are honoured especially if they are high up in the ranks.
War is good for few, bad for most Latuff. If you are fighting in war then your time is precious as you
only have one life. There are many dangers whilst fighting in war, there are risks of gas, bombs,
surprise attacks, snipers and shooting. If you are fighting then you are most likely going to be sent out
onto no mans land. Before and during the troops sending of on their attack a bagpipe is played to
block out the noise of men dying as they sprint. One man is left in the trench to kill those who flee and
turn around as this shows cowardliness. if anyone turns to retreat, shoot them War Horse. Some are

The Importance Of Social Work For Refugees And Asylum Seekers
Social Workers have a duty, professionally and morally to support refugee children and asylum
seekers.
Social workers have a professional and moral duty to ensure that services are provided to those who
most need it. The duty that Social workers have toward Refugees and asylum seekers, particularly
children is strong but not often met. People s wellbeing is a key ideal within social work and is
strongly represented within the Care Act 2014, the earlier Children s Act 2004 is also clear on the
protection of children s rights in the UK. In the essay there will be a discussion on how in some areas
the statute is not strong enough to allow Social Workers to work properly, but also how there needs to
be changes regarding social work focus on refugees.
Recently, United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) has campaigns to help reform the UK s current
law on family. The law only recognises parents or spouses and civil partners as family. A child refugee
may have an older sibling, or more extended family such as an uncle but they would not be allowed
into the country under the Family Reunion rules. The dangers for children trying to reach family in the
UK are high and it leaves them at risk of exploitation, 78% of adolescents face some form of
exploitation whilst travelling the Central Mediterranean route to Europe, UNICEF (2017). Social
Workers have a duty here to protest the UK s laws, and the decision of the Government not to join the
EU s relocation scheme for Refugees. They did

Name Origin of Amber Alerts December 9, 2010 Research Paper I m sure we all can admit that we
have changed the channel on the television when those loud Amber Alerts float across the screen, but
do we really know exactly what they re for or how they were created? It may hurt to know what you
ve been ignoring. The creation of Amber Alerts is rather interesting and as well as heartbreaking but
first, let s get an idea of what the Amber Alert is for. The amber alert is a notification system to law
enforcement and the media about child abductions. The purpose of Amber alerts is to notify the public
when a child has been abducted and is in danger. They use radio, television, freeway message boards

Their next act in making it a more effective program is the Instant Amber. With Instant Amber, parents
are able to have another tool to help them if they ever need it in an emergency such as a child goes
missing because all the information is gathered beforehand as a preemptive strike. By 2005, a national
alert system coordinated by the U.S Department of Justice extended all 50 states. In 2006, the U.S
Postal Service issued a stamp to supporting of the Amber Alerts. These stamps are not just in honor of
Amber but for all the abducted children. After all, Amber stands for America s Missing: Broadcast
Emergency Response. The stamp dedication ceremony was held in Washington, D.C. They also had a
separate ceremony in Arlington, Texas at the hometown of little Amber Hagerman. Amber s mother
feels Amber would be very proud and it would make it feel as if she is a guardian angel watching over
children, making them sure they get home safe. Even though, Amber s story didn t have a happy
ending, the Amber Alerts do help many abducted children out there. In the United States, they have
saved 525 children since the program was created. You have to remember the fact of the time lapse
most children are murdered in. The statistics for the U.S is 797,500 children (younger than 18) were
reported missing in a one year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being
reported missing each day. 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions.

Aunt, Uncle, and Eldora all packed up their belongings from their home in New Bedford,

that she would soon come by to pay Eldora a visit and to tell her why she had been unable to care for
her the past few years. However every time she was due to visit, she would have something come up
and not be able to visit. Until after about the 3rd reschedule, when she was finally able to come into
the city for a visit. Eldora was scintillating with happiness and very eager to see her mother for the
first time in what felt like forever. When she saw her mother and she immediately began to look for
every similarity, such as eyes, voice, hair, even the way that she walked.

underlying psychological factors of why Bill s wants to learn how to handle his money. Bill s
feedback gave me the information required to get a better understanding on how to work with Bill as
his financial coach (Massie, 2006).

has their own unique DNA code, we also have a unique financial DNA code made up from our
environment, values, and education (Massie, 2006, p. 5). I explained how completing a financial DNA
profile would help Bill know his own unique behavioral style and financial character traits that lead

Fashion designers find their inspiration from the past and combine styles to create new designs that are seen as different and inventive. The Three MainCauses Of The Civil War The North and South citizens were divided because of their huge differences. The tension between them consisted of having disagreements on slavery, economical and political differences. The hate and violence against each other later on led to the infamous Civil War. The Civil War, also known as the War Between States , began in 1861 and lasted for four deadly years. This war of disputes and misery led to the division of the two nations, the North and the South. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were politics, economy, and slavery. The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about politics. During the election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln was a candidate of the North while J.C. Breckinridge was the candidate of the South. Abraham Lincoln successfully won with 180 electoral votes. This caused tension between the North and the South because Abraham Lincoln was against the expansion of slavery (Doc N). The Kansas Nebraska Act is an example of this. The Missouri Compromise Line of 1820 was repealed when the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1845 was passed. The act organized territories on the principle of popular sovereignty. This created a lot of stir between the two nations. In a cartoon created by Harry T. Simply, Orozco implied that he valued impartiality instead of zealous didacticism in his works. Moreover, Orozco also paid homage to indigenous prayer in his 1925 mural Omniscience by placing a native man looking to the sky with hands clasped on his knees in the middle of the painting. Certainly, Orozco validates indigenous belief systems by showing the man s flexed muscles and closed eyes as he prays. Lastly, Orozco s 1923 4 piece Banquet of the Rich shows a group of élite men and women laughing over drinks at a table while two angry native men labor in the foreground. Had Orozco believed that wealthy farm owners and industrial executives did not subjugate indigenous laborers, he would not have featured the jovial élite man pointing his finger at the laborers while laughing. Sports Athletes ShouldNot Be Better Than Their Opponent Introduction In the world of sports, competitive athletes are willing to do whatever is necessary to be better than their opponent. The nature of the competitive drive in some athletes is precisely what separates the average from the elite. Compared to their novice counterparts, elite athletes usually have a more extensive knowledge base of sport specific information and are more adept at using said knowledge efficiently to identify, remember and manipulate relevant information in their specialist sport (Swann, Moran, Piggott, 2015). In order to achieve max performance, an elite athlete must be skilled in their craft, meaning they are able to produce the skills needed reliably, on demand, and with very little luck. Demonstrating their skill ability by maximizing the certainty of the intended goal achievement, minimizing their energy expenditure (physically and mentally), and minimizing the time used (Schmidt Lee, 2015). An athletes cognitive performance will ultimately reflect in their physical capabilities. In today s society, elite athletes and their followers are consumed with idea of being even bigger, even faster, and even stronger than ever before. A major change was the way in which tea was consumed and served. The Chinese originally drank tea in its simplicity, enhancing the natural flavors of the brew. They drank the tea in handless cups that could be held without the dangers of getting burnt since Chinese tea was served lukewarm. However, the British did not follow the Chinese tradition and rather, changed it to meet their own cultural standards. The British preferred to flavor their tea with sugar and milk so that the drink was sweetened, less bitter, and creamier. They drank out of cups with handles, known as teacups, because British tea had to be served hot since that is the condition in which sugar melts the best. In addition, the saucer and teaspoon were created to accommodate the British s way of drinking tea (Dolin 53). Such changes in tradition occurred because the British were more open to foreign goods such as sugar, whereas China tried to isolate themselves from foreign products, because the Chinese believed it would not benefit them (Standage). Banning Burmese Pythons Shouldhaving a Burmese python as a pet be banned? These pythons are capable of getting up to 23 feet long and weigh up to 200 pounds by the age of only two years old. When having a snake that can get that long, many people think they have no other choice but to let the snake go when they get much bigger and become hard to take care of. Are these snakes worth a $100 fee? I think that Burmese pythons should not be allowed to be pets: to prevent horrible incidents, to prevent negative effects in the Everglades, and to stop them from taking over Florida. Do you even wonder how Burmese Pythons get here? Millions of pythons have been imported to the United States over the past three decades. These snakes were never a major problem till 2002. At ... Rhetorical Analysis OfLetter From Birmingham Jail In the midst of the Civil Rights movement, Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. found himself in a jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, one of the most segregated cities in the United States at the time. While in that jail cell, King wrote Letter from Birmingham Jail in response to the city s religious leaders. Through his use of ethos, pathos, and logos, King made a thought provoking and powerful argument for the Civil Rights movement which continues to inspire change in the hearts of his audience, both implied and actual. An effective strategy used by King was his careful placement and articulation of each paragraph in the letter. Had King decided to go straight into defending his actions, the letter would not have been well regarded. He used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the powerful personal experiences that King shares in the letter serve as emotional appeals, they also serve as a type of evidence through personal experience. King has the gift of story telling in a way that makes a person feel all of the same emotions that must have been felt during those hard times. King makes the reader feel the frustration of those moments when his community was told to wait for a better, more convenient time. He makes the reader feel the sorrow of the moments when his daughter asks to go to a park but they are not allowed because it is for whites only, or when his son asks why they are treated different for their skin color. He makes a person feel the horror that must have been felt watching families get hurt or killed by angry mobs or policemen. It is through this use of pathos that King continues to inspire humanity to do better. Interwoven within the web of powerful emotion is an eye opening amount of logic. King used pathos to open minds to the idea of change. Between the use of pathos, the logic starts to flow in. He connected with the religious leaders through his chosen evidence.
