Analysis Of Half Of A Yellow Sun
The Novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was first published in 2006 and
follows the interweaved narrative of three individuals living in Eastern Nigeria throughout the 1960s.
The Novel, set within the backdrop of the Biafra secession movement and subsequent civil war,
demonstrates how the daily life of Biafrans was riddled with conflict, turbulence and trauma.
Additionally, the novel depicts how the effects of colonialism remain a strong force in the everyday
lives of the characters as many continue to hold colonial sentiment. Furthermore, through the
character Odenigbo, Adichie highlights how education is an important tool for decolonisation and
allows citizens to create discourse on their own terms. Ultimately, the novel displays African life
within the context of a newly independent and turbulent state. This paper will aim to contextualise and
discuss such themes in Adichie s novel.
Half of a Yellow Sun takes its name from the symbol of Biafra. The novel follows the short lived life
of the nation through three characters. Ugwu a houseboy from a small village who works for an
academic named Odenigbo until he is conscripted into the Biafran army where he experiences the
harsh realities of war. Olanna a UK educated daughter of a wealthy chief and is Odenigbo s wife. She
too is greatly affected by the war and suffers from ongoing trauma after seeing atrocities in Kano,
Northern Nigeria. Finally, Richard is the love interest of Olanna s sister and is

Ali M. Ansari s Novel Confronting Iran
Ali M. Ansari s novel Confronting Iran describes the United States relations with Iran. Ansari begins
his telling of the ever changing relations between Iran and the US in 1911. Anasari describes the
apprehension of the US to enter into Iranian relations because there existed no government by the
western perspective. At the time the Iranian Government was largely reliant on other powerful
countries around them. In 1911 the Iranian Government Invited American merchant banker Morgan
Shuster to assist a team of the country s economist. Shuster arrived to a country that was mostly run
by people from other countries, there we people from France, Germany, the English, Russians and
many others. It was made obvious the many other countries had a steak in the country s future and
ultimately were only in it for said countries benefit from Shuster s perspective. Iran was a struggling
country, the country narrowly escaped European expansion, the Iranian independence was only
maintained because the country had a few politically skilled statesmen. Ansari also describes Iran s
relation with the west during the 19th century. Ansari then describes the United States relation with
Iran, largely the US experienced a formal commercial relationship with the people of Iran, they did not
pursue a political involvement in the country s affairs. While the US remained removed politically,
they did send Shuster and his team to the country, Shuster and his team were not only employed by the

The research involved a primary and a secondary aim which were evaluated in two studies. The
primary aim of the study focused on structured teaching and its effects on 4 child behaviors including,
engagement, task completion, stereotypic behavior, and escape attempts in preschoolers with
disabilities. The secondary aim was to evaluate how graduated guidance was used in teaching the
children to use the structured work systems. There were a total of three preschool age participants with
developmental disabilities involved. In the first study two participants engaged in three tasks in both a
withdrawal design and in a structured work system. In the second study one participant engaged in

previous research on structured teaching. In a study conducted by MacDuff, Krantz, and McClannahan

individuals with autism could benefit from individual work systems. Finally, the authors state their

Mccool Monologue
On 05/14/17, I was dispatched to 2440 W. Madison in reference to an assault that occurred at the
location. When I arrived on scene, I contacted the caller identified as Jordan Lundy. Lundy stated he
was with his girlfriend and they went to the dispatched address to speak with her cousin. Lundy was
inside the residence where a female confronted him. The female was identified as Alesha McCool.
Lundy stated McCool was his girlfriend s cousin. Lundy said McCool began yelling at him calling
him a thief and other names. Lundy let McCool yell at him because he wanted to amend the
relationship with McCool. Once McCool stopped yelling, Lundy said he turned around and walked
out of the house. Lundy advised McCool followed him out of the house continuing to yell at him.
Lundy reached the street and he told McCool Fuck you but she continued to follow him into the street.
McCool approached Lundy in the street where she pushed him with both hands. Lundy informed me
he was pushed so hard he flew backwards but stayed on his feet. Since Lundy stayed on his feet, he

I Jumped Down The Stairs Behind Me
Vivaciously, I leaped off the bus, skipping the last few steps. Ella carefully climbed down the stairs
behind me; as our bus driver waved goodbye, closing the creaky, metal doors with a whirr, clang. We
watched as bus 93 glided around the corner, and disappeared. Placid, little houses towered over us, my
younger sister and I, as we began to stroll down the sidewalk. Stopping in front of each crack in the
cement, I paused and dramatically hopped over the trench.
Beating, golden rays had long since melted the snow that fell early this morning and were now
prompting me to stop my trench hopping game, drop my bag in the center of the sidewalk, and tie my
purple polka dotted jacket around my waist. I figured no one would mind my bag lying ... Show more

something about blood money and an ancient curse. Needless to say, I asked her to skip ahead. So
today, she bellowed, Claire... chased Wasle... with scissors! Immediately, I burst out giggling, Nuh uh,
I poked flippantly. Yes, huh, she began defensively, Wasle took Claire s vocabulary work from her

around the classroom with them. My mind raced, pensive with pictures of a scissor battle, eliciting my
laughter to grow exponentially in size and volume. I could ve sworn dogs began howling at the
sound... All the while, a Wes Anderson directed movie played in my mind. Claire s face grew red with
anger, as her tiny second grade fingers reached for a pair of dramatically large scissors. Horrified
shrieks escaped Wasle s mouth as her hand shot up next to her face in the manner of a 50 s scream
queen. The whole scene was reflected in the bright blue walls of a cheery classroom. But, then today,

Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autistic children experience the world a lot more differently than others. For example, children with
autism are not capable of using words, and have a hard time communicating in general by any means.
Specific sounds, like loud crashes and yelling, would bother an autistic child that wouldn t normally
bother a child that wasn t autistic. We need to learn more about autism so we can handle it, as it is the
fastest growing developmental disease in the United States.
Autism affects 1 in 150 children in the United States alone, as well as children all over the world. The

population every minute. Autism can also cause Tuberous Sclerosis; a disease that causes non
cancerous tumors to grow in the brain and other organs. One to four percent of children with autism
have this disease, which is approximately anywhere from 31,903 to 127,612 children. Autism really is
the fastest growing disease due to the increasing population numbers and the children that already
have the disease. ( Facts Statistics , par. 2,4,5,6)
Early diagnosis and treatment helps young children with autism develop to their full potential. The
primary goal of treatment is to improve the overall ability of the child to function.
Symptoms and behaviors of autism can combine in many ways and vary in severity. Also, individual
symptoms and behaviors often change over time. For these reasons, treatment strategies fit to
individual needs and family resources. But children in general with autism respond best to highly
structured and specialized treatment. A program that addresses helping parents and improving
communication, social, behavioral, adaptive, and learning aspects of a child s life will be most
successful. ( ASD Treatment Management, par. 1, 2)
While there is no actual cure for ASD, doctors can prescribe medicine and recommend a number of
classes to take to help cope. One of those classes being, Behavioral Training Management. Behavioral
training and management uses positive reinforcement, self help, and social skills training to improve

Pros And Cons Of Owning Exotic Pets
How many people think it is okay to have an exotic animal as a pet? People do not care about the
responsibilities that come with owning an exotic pet when they get a wild animal. There are many
positives and negatives regarding owning exotic pets, but the negatives outweigh the positives greatly.
Keeping these animals in captivity is not only harmful to others but harmful to the animal. When
treated as pets these animals grow into adults and act aggressively to others around them, spread
diseases, and enclosures cost a great amount and have to be created by professionals the majority of
the time. Many people mistake domesticated animals with exotic animals and are okay with owning
exotic pets. These wild animals are easy to deal with when they are small, but when they turn into
adults they are more aggressive and harder to care for. Not all animals are trying to harm others, they
are born to be in the wild and trained to fend for themselves (Lewis). Statistics show that more people
die in car accidents every year than being killed by exotic animals, causing some to believe that it is
okay to own exotic pets ( REXANO Proves That Politicians... ). This thought contradicts itself when
the statistics of the amount of people being killed by animals were added. People think it is different
and exciting to be able to go to a neighbor s house and see exotic pets, but in reality it is causing
deaths. Owners are not aware of the precautions that need to have taken place to keep

Medicines Act Of 1968 And The Uk
In the UK, there are more than 1 billion scripts prescribed and dispensed every year (HSCIC, 2013).
There are over 12,000 pharmacies in the UK, and approximately 1.6 million people visit a pharmacy
every day (HSCIC, 2013). It is therefore natural to assume that between these 1 billion prescriptions,
an error or mistake will be made. Current studies suggest that of all the dispensed medicines, there are
approximately 0.01 3.32% errors made in community pharmacy and 0.02 2.7% in hospital pharmacy
(James et all, 2009).
The rules and regulations surrounding dispensing errors in the UK are governed by the Medicines Act
of 1968 the Act , and the Health Act 1999, which legislates the General Pharmaceutical Council
(GPhC) through the Pharmacy Order 2010. The Act is an Act of Parliament which governs the control,
manufacture and supply of medicines in the UK. It was introduced to help control the use of medicinal
compounds and to increase patient safety, although much of it has been modernized and repealed. It
also gives power to the courts to charge any dispensing mistakes as a criminal offence.
Section 64 (1) of the Act states that No person shall, to the prejudice of the purchaser, sell any
medicinal product which is not of the nature or quality demanded by the purchaser (The Medicines
Act, 1968). This essentially means that every time a patient is accidently handed a wrong medicine
one that was not on the prescription, the pharmacist faces not only disciplinary action,

Common Themes In Breaker Morant, AndThe Crucible
The common theme shared across both texts, a difficult environment can challenge a person s
character or true nature. In Breaker Morant , this is evident through the character of Harry Morant, the
protagonist of the story. Following the death of his friend and comrade, Captain Hunt, Morant orders
his unit, the Bushveldt Carbineers to ride for multiple days at a time in hopes of tracking the Boer
soldiers. As evident by the narration, We rode another couple of days... hardly ever stopped . Who
ambushed, mutilated and stole the jacket of Hunt, a sign that Morant saw as a gesture of disrespect.
Morant took offence to these actions, as he viewed Hunt to be a highly respected and honourable man.
Morant became driven as he finally had a cause that he was willing to put all of his energy towards.
Morant s respect and disgust of the actions are shown when he is shouting at the Boer soldier found
with the Hunt s jacket Captain Hunt had bullet wounds...They mutilated him! This is similarly shown
in The Crucible as John Proctor becomes greatly enraged due to his wife being falsely accused and
arrested. Out of character, Proctor allows his emotions to get the better of him as he lashes out at
Abigail grasping her by the throat as though he would strangle her . This is vastly different to the
manner he had previously been acting, as through the rest of the play as most of his actions were
reserved and thought out.
Both texts show that in times of great tension a person s true

The Despairing Act of Self Harm Essay
Have you ever, coincidentally, walked passed somebody with deep, open cuts on his/her wrist and
wondered what happened? Maybe, you thought it was a simple, harmless scratch caused by obnoxious
pets at home. Or maybe, you considered it as mild accidents, preferably caused by doing arts and
crafts at home or school. But, have you ever pondered thoroughly and have the idea that those sad
scarring were actually made by him/herself? Creating scars on your skin is actually the action of self
harm; the intentional hurting of one s self, direct to the body tissue, with or without the intention of
suicide. There are several types of self harm, such as hair pulling, banging body parts, scratching,

Though, there are several motives of self harm, a person who self harms by any means seeks the same
personal effects: a sense of relief, a diversion from hurtful emotion by expressing it externally, or to
simply sense something when feeling numb and empty. Adolescents and teenagers expects self harm
as an escape, as a way out of struggles. However, self harm bears great consequences to those who
practice it. As a matter of fact, it has never been a solution to complications. The truth is, self harm
only gives temporary satisfaction, and provokes to further misery and discomfort. Self harm brings
several damages; it affects both one s mind and physical features. Damages of self harm involves:
Permanent, painful scars
Inability to bring an end to it or addiction
Feeling useless
Self hatred or low self esteem
Permanent numbness in hand or wrist
Broken bones and bruises
Stress to hide the self injury from others
Anxiety that someone will discover it
Secluded from society
Although there are a number of after effects, the worst that could happen to one s life is death. When a
person became too dependent on self harm, he/she could have the desire to take his/her own life.
Regardless its familiarity in the midst of teenagers today, God has always ruled against self harm.

Race And European Superiority During The First World War
Race and European superiority were important aspects of the First World War for two main reasons.
Ideas about race were developed throughout the 19th century during the scramble for Africa. The
partition of Africa became one of the most prominent preoccupations of modern Europeans.
Furthermore, several of the major countries at war between 1914 and 1918 possessed large colonial
empires, where white Europeans ruled over Africans, Asians, and Pacific Islanders. Until recently,
historians rarely mentioned the involvement of colonial troops during the First World War. It can be
seen today that every country had different point of views concerning the reasons for the involvement
of African troops in colonial armies but also the treatment of Africans. It is therefore important to
understand how important those ideas of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans in
the colonial armies were. To answer this question, one must first understand the concept of race and
European superiority in the treatment of Africans. When Europeans colonised Africa and Asia, they
made sure that the native people knew that they were their leaders and that they were superior to them.
However, during the First World War many Africans and Asians fought alongside the Europeans. To
comprehend how important those ideas of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans
in the colonial armies, one can firstly analyse the importance of race and European superiority in
France.

Capital Punishment on Trial
Capital Punishment is an issue that has been argued over from the dinner table in
the average American home the the oval office in the White House for countless amounts
of years. The opposing sides each state their claim on why we should, or shouldn t allow
the death penalty to be administered to those criminals who the courts believe should be
killed. Each argument has very valid reasons on why the death penalty is right and wrong,
and they both have convincing points to prove their argument. The social problems within

loss of a loved one is not enough for a family to deal with, Bundy remained on death row
for nearly ten years. Three stays of execution and endless appeals kept Bundy alive for
almost a decade, when his victims lives were untimely and viciously taken from them
(Lamar 34). Many in fovor of the death penalty feel that if a sentence of death is handed
down, then it should be enforced immediately, not as a question of morality, but simply as
an act of justice.
The death penalty already exists in thirty six states, and given its existence it should
be enforced. The problem that arises within the criminal justice system as it is currently
written in the law books is where part of this social problem arises. Since the United
States Supreme Court reinstated the death Penalty in 1976, thirty six states have legislated
capital punishment statutes (Capital Punishment 1992). All but thirteen states and the
District of Columbia have the death penalty as a sentencing option, including Alaska,
Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota,
Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin (Norman 1). Since capital
punishment is already in existence, the problem is that it is not enforced. This lack of
enforcement translated into inefficient functioning of the criminal justice system, which
begins to be looked at as a social problem. If the criminal

Should Photojournalism or Documentary Photography Be...
A photograph is not merely a substitute for a glance. It is a sharpened vision. It is the revelation of
new and important facts. ( Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History. ). Sid Grossman, a Photo League
photographer expressed this sentiment, summarizing the role photography had on America in the 1940
s and 50 s. During this era, photojournalism climaxed, causing photographers to join the bandwagon
or react against it. The question of whether photography can be art was settled a long time ago. Most
major museums now have photography departments, and the photographs procure pretty hefty prices.

Taking a Look at Website Optimization
Website optimisation plays an important role in web development and maintenance. In this article, we
look at some basic website optimisation tricks one can use to help increase a site s search engine
ranking and increasing the traffic. Meta Description, Meta Keywords and Title tags are still used by
some search engines in order to catalog and rank Web pages. So, at the top of each page, place a title
tag to identify the document s overall content. It is also important to write an accurate Meta
description tag. Also, add a Meta keyword tag to help reveal the most important keywords for each
page to search engines. To make your website perform well with search engines, use keywords on the
Home and other essential pages. It s important to use these keywords strategically throughout the
website s content. Try and focus on areas that register well with search engines (this also includes bold
headings). Embed keywords in the anchor text and try to use keywords to create a common theme or
topic throughout the content on your website. The reason for this is that search engines look for a
theme on a website to produce more relevant results. If you re not sure what keywords to use,
softwares like WordTracker can help. Remember that keyword proximity is also crucial for website
optimisation. So make sure to place your keywords as close to each other as possible, but also make
sure that the content remains clear. Most importantly, ensure an apt keyword weight or density. This

Response To Conflict Essay
These are just some ways that can enhance the conflict simply because the resources is there at no cost
to the refugees. One key note to consider when trying to find a solution to this is that human beings
rely on interactions and relationship to other people to help them make sense of the world. All of these
mechanisms are a consequence of social factors. Therefore, it s important to look for other responses
that allow humanitarian aid to assist the people that need it and protect against escalating the conflict
by having their resources support the militant. When militants take advantage of the humanitarian aid
supplies, the intentions of the humanitarian aid is being used for something completely different from
the values and principles of humanitarian work. Humanitarian aid workers intend to help feed the
refugee, not feed the militants that have led to the outset of the crisis (Barber 1997). However, they
can t just categorize and fit everyone into dichotomies without crossing the neutrality and impartiality
guidelines of the agencies. In all honesty, personally, it seems that everyone has biased and have their
own expectations of the profession they choose to take and as much as they follow the mission of the
profession, they still have their own individual faith and beliefs. Because aid is something that is free
to refugees, workers may be frustrated in that they aren t serving the populations that are innocent
victims of the crisis. It s extremely hard to determine

Machiavelli s Prince
Humanism is a term that is applied to beliefs, methods and philosophies that place human beings at
the center all life and the universe. Humanists observe that the goal of human life is happiness on
earth. Besides happiness, humanism is also grounded in naturalistic metaphysics (Lamont 13). It
considers all supernatural things and beliefs to be mythical, hence warranting dismissal. It is also
conceived of the idea that human beings are products of nature rather than supernatural creation. The
earthly experience is more important than any forms of predestination or determinism. According to
humanist, human beings have choice of action and have the capacity to shape their destiny. The
process of self definition also leads to critical inquiry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Prince Machiavelli maps a political ideology that values citizen active participation in public life as
opposed to the idea of waiting for divine repudiation and salvation. The essence of virtue is central to
humanist thought and action. Machiavelli like all other humanists saw virtue in those with power to
rule. A virtuous ruling class had the capacity for more efficient and accountable governance. He goes
on to argue that an elite ruling class was not sufficient enough for political stability. A stable political
system needs power. He observed that a political system that had poor organization led to its subjects
bad behavior which in the end resulted in it getting attacked by outside enemies. Machiavelli s project
was to separate the political from the moral and he thought this did not necessarily benefit the ruler
but the general populace. His civic humanism is found in his assertion that a prince should not resort
to mistreating his subjects. When he is feared enough, the state is strong and every citizen does their
civic duty. In the process no one is hurt and the prince retains his

Change Management Process In The Movie Miracle On Ice
In the movie Miracle on Ice , Coach Herb Brooks takes his team in the National Hockey League
through the Kotter s 8 Step Change Management Process to become successful in the Winter Olympic
Games of 1980. Many of Herbs actions and techniques seem to be unorthodox at first, but people soon
began to realize that the changes that were made did in fact make a difference. These changes led to
the USA victory against the Soviets and all together the 1980 Olympics. This paper will discuss how
Brooks takes the organization through these 8 changes. The first step in the change process is to create
a sense of urgency. Coach Herb originally starts this step out in his interview for the head coaching
position of the USA team. He brings to the table that he wants to change the entire process that the
teams usually go through. These changes include not relying on players that just have talent, using a
team chemistry to drive teamwork, longer/harder workouts, use different playing strategies and using
less experienced players. These created a sense of urgency to the board he was presenting to because
using less experienced players while initiating changes that had never been done before would
possibly take longer and need more work than their usual process. Secondly, forming a powerful
coalition would be the next step in the change process for Coach Herb to follow, which would include
getting people to support the changes he is going to make. In the beginning, Herb did not have much

Reflection Paper On My Writing Process
Reflective Memo
Description of my Writing Process
In my writing process, pre writing was my initial step where I had to find the narrative to write. I had
numerous stories in my mind, but I had to get the best, which draws inspiration to me, and the one that
could teach valuable lessons to my audience. So, I had to refer from that childhood memory regarding
the most significant narrative. However, I had to build up on the story. Therefore, I had to use the
myth worksheet issued at class, to make sure that my story meets all the course requirements.
Apparently, I had to make some changes (revise) the narrative, to deliver the most intended life lesson
to my audience. That is when I decided to plan and structure on what to write down in particular.
The actual writing was my second step, where I had to start writing my draft. However, I had several
challenges at this phase, such as word count, grammar issues, among others. Apparently, I had to write
several rough copies of my narrative. Again, I had to get the best time and location to eliminate any
potential distractions. In fact, at this stage, I had no confidence with my narrative on whether it will
convey a relevant meaning to my audience.
But now the writing process was advancing well, and I started revising my paper. When revising my
narrative, I had to adapt A.R.R.R.R approach where, I had to add some words, rearrange my
paragraphs and sentences to consider flow, pacing, and sequencing of my story. Again, I had to
remove the irrelevant parts, considering whether the reader will acquire the required message. Finally,
replacing them with the relevant words and phrases.
My final step was editing and proofreading. At this phase, I had to check for clarity, grammar,
repetition, punctuation, and spelling. Editing and proofreading were detailed processes since they were
the last step in my writing process. At this moment, I had gained confidence in my paper, since I had
read it several times, affirming that it made some sense. Furthermore, I gave it to my friend who is a
professional to proofread, and he assured me that the paper was sensible.
Revising the Narrative
Apparently, I had to review my story to convey the message swiftly. In the initial story,

Socialization And Sexualization Of Margaret Mead s...
Margaret Mead s ethnography of the Samoan people details many facets of culture and traditions that
shape their society and contribute to their easy going way of life. Their system of enculturation
includes babies and young children being cared for by children only a few years their senior, who will
transition to small gangs of boys or girls free to play. Later, as growth sets in and puberty nears, the
changing, dynamic role of becoming a productive member of their society happens unceremoniously,
not precisely by age but once an individual reaches a particular size. Throughout this process, there is
little emphasis on the nuclear parent child relationship, instead there is a village of mothers and fathers
due to their social network of households and kinship terminology system. Additionally, sexualization
of young Samoans is carefree, done at their own pace, without judgement, as the Samoan society is
sexually permissive. These stark differences to our own system in the United States produce
noteworthy results. Socialization and sexualization of young people in Samoa is more relaxed, has less
rigid rules and focuses on overall harmony, producing less conflict than that of adolescents in
America. Boys in Samoa learn they will be scolded or ridiculed if they are either too lazy or work too
rapidly. Within his group he gains status by winning a sweetheart and, conversely, his social prestige is
increased by his amorous exploits (27). Girls, at the same age, lack status,

Case Study On Periodontitis
Periodontal disease is very common, and is widely regarded as the second most common dental
disease worldwide after dental caries. Periodontitis is initiated by gram negative tooth associated
microbial biofilm that elicit a host response which result in bone and soft tissue destruction. The chief
treatment modality for periodontal health is scaling and root planing either during surgical
intervention or in a non surgical approach with the endpoint of bringing a root surface that is
biologically acceptable for healing processes. [1] These mechanical procedures are accomplished by
using sonic ultrasonic, manual and rotary instruments with the intention of removing subgingival

1920 s Homogenization Of Fashion
In a decade brandished by inequality and social climbing, the deficits of the 1920 s were masked by
the homogenization of fashion. Through the various advances and acquiescence s within the fashion
industry, a young woman living on a farm in Montana could look just like the top socialite in the New
York City inner circle. The advent of a more freeing clothing style and high fashion runway shows
allowed for the feverish replication of the season s top designs, which in turn metamorphosed into a
mass production of similar designs. To add to the high fashion deception, the creation of synthetic
jewelry created an epic era of costume jewelry, an indiscernible alternative to real gems. The flapper

It may have seemed like all the women were on a equal playing field by the end of the 1920 s, but they
may not have been. As previously mentioned, women were trying to pass off fake jewelry as real to fit
in with the upper crowd. The upper class women were losing their dominance in the fashion world and
it was evident they were not happy. Style leagues that would dictate fashion by elected officials began
to pop up in New York City. It seemed that if they could not rule fashion by purchasing uncopied
frocks, they would create policies and dictate the in designs and accessories themselves ( Society
Women Form Style League 64). Taking hold of the industry, the elected officials would cooperate with
manufacturers, designers, fashion artists and women who are socially and professionally chic ( Society
Women Form Style League 64). This was without a doubt the official beginning of what we now call
the group of women who run behind the name, fashion police. As the lower to middle class women
climbed the rungs of the fashion ladder, the upper class women were doing all that they could to push
the ladder off the

Conflict Resolution And Resolving Workplace Conflicts
Conflict Resolution
Conflicts are inevitable. It is necessary for the advanced practice nurse to have skills in approaching
conflicts, negotiations, and resolutions (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, Grady, 2014). According to Hamric et
al. (2014), you do not have to feel pressured to instantly agree with other teammates; however, be
respectful and listen intently and identify what you are able to offer to the team.
Conflicts occur because of the different points of view. They can also happen because of various
morals, values, and work ethic. In a multinational team there is bound to be conflicts. Those conflicts
will transpire and require resolution. Problem solving with negotiations can lead to a quick resolution.
Communication
Communication is essential with resolving workplace conflicts. Communicate clearly and frequently.
No employee wants to be uninformed or left out of the loop, especially regarding important decisions.
Communicating with each other not only helps everyone to do a better job, it reduces stress and
increases job performance (Lee, 2008).
Unsatisfied Patient
The patient drove 75 miles to have her biopsy. The physician was too busy and he scheduled the
patient to see the nurse practitioner. The nurse practitioner apologized that she would not be able to

  • 2. Analysis Of Half Of A Yellow Sun The Novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was first published in 2006 and follows the interweaved narrative of three individuals living in Eastern Nigeria throughout the 1960s. The Novel, set within the backdrop of the Biafra secession movement and subsequent civil war, demonstrates how the daily life of Biafrans was riddled with conflict, turbulence and trauma. Additionally, the novel depicts how the effects of colonialism remain a strong force in the everyday lives of the characters as many continue to hold colonial sentiment. Furthermore, through the character Odenigbo, Adichie highlights how education is an important tool for decolonisation and allows citizens to create discourse on their own terms. Ultimately, the novel displays African life within the context of a newly independent and turbulent state. This paper will aim to contextualise and discuss such themes in Adichie s novel. Half of a Yellow Sun takes its name from the symbol of Biafra. The novel follows the short lived life of the nation through three characters. Ugwu a houseboy from a small village who works for an academic named Odenigbo until he is conscripted into the Biafran army where he experiences the harsh realities of war. Olanna a UK educated daughter of a wealthy chief and is Odenigbo s wife. She too is greatly affected by the war and suffers from ongoing trauma after seeing atrocities in Kano, Northern Nigeria. Finally, Richard is the love interest of Olanna s sister and is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shuster arrived to a country that was mostly run by people from other countries, there we people from France, Germany, the English, Russians and many others. It was made obvious the many other countries had a steak in the country s future and ultimately were only in it for said countries benefit from Shuster s perspective. Iran was a struggling country, the country narrowly escaped European expansion, the Iranian independence was only maintained because the country had a few politically skilled statesmen. It is stated that most of the TEACCH model has been explored as a comprehensive program and some of its practices and individual components have undergone little research. The two components that have been experimentally tested are visual activity schedules and structured work systems. The authors build a research foundation by introducing previous research on structured teaching. In a study conducted by MacDuff, Krantz, and McClannahan in 1993 on structured work systems, demonstrated increased engagement and decreased disruptive behaviors when utilizing visual schedules. A study conducted by Hume and Odom in 2007 was detailed as well. • 8. I Jumped Down The Stairs Behind Me Vivaciously, I leaped off the bus, skipping the last few steps. Ella carefully climbed down the stairs behind me; as our bus driver waved goodbye, closing the creaky, metal doors with a whirr, clang. We watched as bus 93 glided around the corner, and disappeared. Placid, little houses towered over us, my younger sister and I, as we began to stroll down the sidewalk. Stopping in front of each crack in the cement, I paused and dramatically hopped over the trench. Beating, golden rays had long since melted the snow that fell early this morning and were now prompting me to stop my trench hopping game, drop my bag in the center of the sidewalk, and tie my purple polka dotted jacket around my waist. I figured no one would mind my bag lying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (At which point I determined she must ve been a sadist.) Uh, okay? Do you wanna know what happened, or not? she huffed, quickly fed up with my lack of enthusiasm. Yeah, yeah, tell me. By the time I d interrupted her, she d already mentioned something about blood money and an ancient curse. Needless to say, I asked her to skip ahead. So today, she bellowed, Claire... chased Wasle... with scissors! Immediately, I burst out giggling, Nuh uh, I poked flippantly. Yes, huh, she began defensively, Wasle took Claire s vocabulary work from her table during centers today. And so, Claire grabbed the scissors off her desk and started chasing Wasle around the classroom with them. My mind raced, pensive with pictures of a scissor battle, eliciting my laughter to grow exponentially in size and volume. I could ve sworn dogs began howling at the sound... All the while, a Wes Anderson directed movie played in my mind. Claire s face grew red with anger, as her tiny second grade fingers reached for a pair of dramatically large scissors. Horrified shrieks escaped Wasle s mouth as her hand shot up next to her face in the manner of a 50 s scream queen. The whole scene was reflected in the bright blue walls of a cheery classroom. • 9. Autism Essay Garrett Green Mr. Van Boening English 12 Block 8 6 October 2014 Autism Spectrum Disorder Autistic children experience the world a lot more differently than others. For example, children with autism are not capable of using words, and have a hard time communicating in general by any means. Specific sounds, like loud crashes and yelling, would bother an autistic child that wouldn t normally bother a child that wasn t autistic. We need to learn more about autism so we can handle it, as it is the fastest growing developmental disease in the United States. Autism affects 1 in 150 children in the United States alone, as well as children all over the world. The rate at which the disease is growing is the fastest ever recorded. Rising at a ... One to four percent of children with autism have this disease, which is approximately anywhere from 31,903 to 127,612 children. Autism really is the fastest growing disease due to the increasing population numbers and the children that already have the disease. ( Facts Statistics , par. 2,4,5,6) Early diagnosis and treatment helps young children with autism develop to their full potential. The primary goal of treatment is to improve the overall ability of the child to function. Symptoms and behaviors of autism can combine in many ways and vary in severity. Also, individual symptoms and behaviors often change over time. For these reasons, treatment strategies fit to individual needs and family resources. But children in general with autism respond best to highly structured and specialized treatment. A program that addresses helping parents and improving communication, social, behavioral, adaptive, and learning aspects of a child s life will be most successful. ( ASD Treatment Management, par. 1, 2) While there is no actual cure for ASD, doctors can prescribe medicine and recommend a number of classes to take to help cope. • 10. Pros And Cons Of Owning Exotic Pets How many people think it is okay to have an exotic animal as a pet? People do not care about the responsibilities that come with owning an exotic pet when they get a wild animal. There are many positives and negatives regarding owning exotic pets, but the negatives outweigh the positives greatly. Keeping these animals in captivity is not only harmful to others but harmful to the animal. When treated as pets these animals grow into adults and act aggressively to others around them, spread diseases, and enclosures cost a great amount and have to be created by professionals the majority of the time. Many people mistake domesticated animals with exotic animals and are okay with owning exotic pets. These wild animals are easy to deal with when they are small, but when they turn into adults they are more aggressive and harder to care for. Not all animals are trying to harm others, they are born to be in the wild and trained to fend for themselves (Lewis). Statistics show that more people die in car accidents every year than being killed by exotic animals, causing some to believe that it is okay to own exotic pets ( REXANO Proves That Politicians... ). This thought contradicts itself when the statistics of the amount of people being killed by animals were added. People think it is different and exciting to be able to go to a neighbor s house and see exotic pets, but in reality it is causing deaths. Owners are not aware of the precautions that need to have taken place to keep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are over 12,000 pharmacies in the UK, and approximately 1.6 million people visit a pharmacy every day (HSCIC, 2013). Current studies suggest that of all the dispensed medicines, there are approximately 0.01 3.32% errors made in community pharmacy and 0.02 2.7% in hospital pharmacy (James et all, 2009). The Act is an Act of Parliament which governs the control, manufacture and supply of medicines in the UK. It was introduced to help control the use of medicinal compounds and to increase patient safety, although much of it has been modernized and repealed. It also gives power to the courts to charge any dispensing mistakes as a criminal offence. Section 64 (1) of the Act states that No person shall, to the prejudice of the purchaser, sell any medicinal product which is not of the nature or quality demanded by the purchaser (The Medicines Act, 1968). • 16. Race And European Superiority During The First World War Race and European superiority were important aspects of the First World War for two main reasons. Ideas about race were developed throughout the 19th century during the scramble for Africa. The partition of Africa became one of the most prominent preoccupations of modern Europeans. Furthermore, several of the major countries at war between 1914 and 1918 possessed large colonial empires, where white Europeans ruled over Africans, Asians, and Pacific Islanders. Until recently, historians rarely mentioned the involvement of colonial troops during the First World War. It can be seen today that every country had different point of views concerning the reasons for the involvement of African troops in colonial armies but also the treatment of Africans. It is therefore important to understand how important those ideas of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans in the colonial armies were. To answer this question, one must first understand the concept of race and European superiority in the treatment of Africans. When Europeans colonised Africa and Asia, they made sure that the native people knew that they were their leaders and that they were superior to them. However, during the First World War many Africans and Asians fought alongside the Europeans. One key note to consider when trying to find a solution to this is that human beings rely on interactions and relationship to other people to help them make sense of the world. All of these mechanisms are a consequence of social factors. Therefore, it s important to look for other responses that allow humanitarian aid to assist the people that need it and protect against escalating the conflict by having their resources support the militant. I had numerous stories in my mind, but I had to get the best, which draws inspiration to me, and the one that could teach valuable lessons to my audience. So, I had to refer from that childhood memory regarding the most significant narrative. However, I had to build up on the story. Again, I had to get the best time and location to eliminate any potential distractions. In fact, at this stage, I had no confidence with my narrative on whether it will convey a relevant meaning to my audience. But now the writing process was advancing well, and I started revising my paper. When revising my narrative, I had to adapt A.R.R.R.R approach where, I had to add some words, rearrange my paragraphs and sentences to consider flow, pacing, and sequencing of my story. Again, I had to remove the irrelevant parts, considering whether the reader will acquire the required message. Finally, replacing them with the relevant words and phrases. My final step was editing and proofreading. At this phase, I had to check for clarity, grammar, repetition, punctuation, and spelling. Editing and proofreading were detailed processes since they were the last step in my writing process. At this moment, I had gained confidence in my paper, since I had read it several times, affirming that it made some sense. Margaret Mead s ethnography of the Samoan people details many facets of culture and traditions that shape their society and contribute to their easy going way of life. Their system of enculturation includes babies and young children being cared for by children only a few years their senior, who will transition to small gangs of boys or girls free to play. Later, as growth sets in and puberty nears, the changing, dynamic role of becoming a productive member of their society happens unceremoniously, not precisely by age but once an individual reaches a particular size. Throughout this process, there is little emphasis on the nuclear parent child relationship, instead there is a village of mothers and fathers due to their social network of households and kinship terminology system. Additionally, sexualization of young Samoans is carefree, done at their own pace, without judgement, as the Samoan society is sexually permissive.
