Parable Of The Black Veil
The mystery, curiosity and suspicion that an ordinary old man can bring to himself with only wearing
a black veil. Mr. Hooper the minister with a black veil has everyone interested in what he has to hide,
not only that but also understand why he began to wear it in the first place. This black veil alone had
costed him many things like his wife, his friends, and the children to fear him. in this manner Mr.
Hooper spent a long life, irreproachable in outward act, yet shrouded in dismal suspicions; kind and
loving, though unloved, and dimly feared; a man apart from men (1259) , yet the protagonist does not
take it off no matter what others say about him. He keeps his veil on to teach a lesson and to prove that
the black veil is the item that keeps their secrets hidden. He keeps the veil on as a representation of not
only his secret sin but also wears it to represent the darkness that humanity has committed. Yet after
wearing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start, the black veil is the symbol of sin and also proves that no one in this life or any other life is
perfect. After that comes the thought that everyone, even myself, has a symbolic veil, similar to that of
Mr. Hooper, that covers our sins from others. The final theme represented in this story would be that
people should not focus on the sins of others but instead look at their own sins. To look for a way of
redemption to their own sins before they could start looking at other people s sins. So to sum it up the
main theme of this is that everyone commits sins and of course this is a normal thing because no one
in this world is perfect. Yet that does not mean that others should be so concerned with the sins of
others. Instead look for a way of redemption, focus on the secret sins you have committed first.
Because one day, as Mr. Hooper once said, There is a hour to come when all of us shall cast aside our
veils

Assisted Suicide Should Be Legal Or Illegal
In 2013, 122 people had prescriptions written out to them to go through euthanasia, while 71 people
actually went through with it and died from the medicine (FIND CITATION). Some people decide not
to use the prescription after rethinking the idea. People have been debating for a long time on whether
or not physician assisted suicide should be legal or illegal. Some say that it is morally wrong to
participate in any kind of suicide, while others say it is wrong to let terminally ill people suffer when
they have absolutely no chance at beating their disease. This is a very important controversy because
people need to know all of their possible options when diagnosed with a terminally ill disease. Patients
are also supposed to make the decision of their care, and they cannot make the right decision if they
cannot have all of the options. Physician assisted suicide ought to be legalized in all states and nations
to allow patients to have control of their terminal illness so they can decide whether or not they want
to suffer for the rest of their short life or end it in a peaceful way. Dr. Jack Kevorkian was known for
helping terminally ill patients commit suicide medically before most people even knew it existed.
Kevorkian became famous in 1990 when Janet Adkins climbed in the back of his van and let
Kevorkian inject a needle into her arm. However, Kevorkian did not inject the medicine in her. Adkins
pushed a button that released the medicine herself. She decided to die

Taylor s Scientific Management Principles in Current...
Firstly, big companies are often divided into several departments to focus on specialization, since the
change in structure allows them to divide the tasks of the whole organization into manageable sub
tasks and allocates them to organisational units that are responsible for their completion (Rollinson,
2005: 461). However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized jobs concerned
with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing circumstances (ibid:
463). So, scientific management works better with small companies which do not usually need to react
to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). This lack of flexibility, the main defect attributed to the Fordism model
(which adopted Taylorism s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CHRM´s responsibilities involve, among others, job design, staff selection, training and motivation
and job performance criteria, all of which were Taylor s contributions (Bell and Martin, 2012: 107).
Thus, following Taylor s ideas, organizations in our days make huge efforts to hire the right people to
a position and to train them to develop their skills (Mckinnon, 2010: 1). One example could be human
resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced workers with great
potential and, then, train and develop their skills so that they can make very valuable workers for a
low cost (Babío et al, 2007: 50).
3. Bringing the scientifically designed job and the scientifically designed workers together (Rollinson,
2005: 9).
This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the
developed science. Even though the basic job of a manager is to guarantee that an organization
achieves its goals, a key aspect to take into account is making sure that employees are performing
their tasks so that they contribute to the accomplishment of organization s goals (Certo, 2003: 3 4),
and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11).

Censorship on the Internet Essay
Censorship on the Internet
Five years after the first world wide web was launched at the end of 1991, The
Internet has become very popular in the United States. Although President
Clinton already signed the 1996 Telecommunication ActI on Thursday Feb 8, 1996, the censorship
issue on the net still remains unresolved. In fact, censorship in cyberspace is unconscionable and
impossible. Trying to censor the Internet its problematic because the net is an international issue, there
is no standard for judging materials, and censorship is an abridgment of democratic spirit.
Firstly, censorship on the Internet is an international issue. The Internet was constructed by the U.S.
military since 1960s, but no one actually owns it. Thus, the Internet ... Show more content on

Why do people still argue about that?
It is all about personal points of views. Justice Douglas said, To many the
Song of Solomon is obscene. I do not think we, the judges, were ever given the constitutional power to
make definitions of obscenity. II. In cyberspace, it is hard to set up a pool of judges to censor what
could be displayed on the net.
Thirdly, censorship works against democratic spirit, it opposes the right of free speech and is a breach
of the First Amendment. Do you remember Salman
Rushdie and his book The Satanic Verses? Iranian government announced a death threat to kill
Rushdie and his publishers because his book speaks against Islam.
No one wants that to happen again. If you are one of the Internet users, you should have seen a blue
ribbon logo. The blue ribbon symbolizes a support for the essential human right of free speech. Let
think about what happen if we lost the right of free speech. How can we stay online? Who gives
courage to the web s designers to put their opinion on the net? On the same day when the 1996
Telecommunication Act signed in law, a bill called House Bill 1630 was introduced by Georgia House
of Representatives member Don Parsons. It is so repel that this law even limits the right of choosing
email addressesIII.
Freedom of speech on the Internet deserves the same protection as freedom of the press, freedom of
speech, or freedom of assembly. said Bill

Essay on Belonging, Romulus My Father
An individual s interaction with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience
of belonging. This statement can be readily depicted through various texts which include Raimond
Gaita s memoir, Romulus My Father and Universal Studio s 2004 film, Hating Alison Ashley. Both of
these texts involve various techniques that assist in portraying the concept of belonging to both an
environment and to relationships. Belonging is a concept that is more complex than it first appears. It
may be experienced on many levels between belonging and not belonging, be it to a family, a
friendship, a place or a surrounding environment. It is a perception that is shaped within personal,
cultural, historical and social contexts. Belonging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This influences him to interact more with his surrounds which further enriches his belonging to the
Australian landscape.
The film Hating Alison Ashley from Universal Studios, also reveals how an individual s interaction
with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience of belonging to an
environment. The two protagonists both find themselves at odds with the environment throughout
different stages in the film. Erika Yuken is competent in her own way but out of place within her
community and school environment. However, it appears to be a matter of perception, Erika believes
that she is better than or different from what she actually is. This attribute makes her think that she is
above everyone and ultimately creates barriers between her interacting with her peers and in turn
belonging to her school environment. Erika and Alison both feel insecure and awkward in their school
environment, but for varying reasons. Erika assumes she doesn t belong and that she should be
someone else. Life can be lonely when you re exceptional. This reflective statement reveals that she
thinks herself to be better than others and also highlights the isolation she feels because of this
perception. At the beginning of the film a montage of photos of beautiful people, houses and wealth
are shown in conjunction with a voice over, spoken by Erika. There were very few perfect places to

Stock Characters In Roman Comedy
In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society.
Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the
characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy,
stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of people.
These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to judge others.
Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society has about
certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock character of the leno, or brothel keeper
or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately recognized. The leno is
represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns the love interest of Calidorus,
master of Pseudolus, and is known for his greed and physical harshness towards his slaves. He is seen
in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls them names such as whip spoilers (139), which
indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic
definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and only cares about money. He compromises his
morals constantly in order to make more money, and he almost seems proud to accept his bad
character. The most important example of this is when he sells Phoenicium, Calidorus love interest, to

WAS GENOCIDE COMMITTED AGAINST THE ARMENIAN PEOPLE IN THE OTTOMAN
EMPIRE DURING WORLD WAR I?
In some countries, it is highly forbidden to mention the Armenian Genocide, which took place during
the First World War with an approximate number of one and a half million Armenians exterminated.
Currently around the world, there are still arguments whether genocide took place in the Ottoman
Empire, targeting the Armenians. However, Turkey continues to firmly deny the fact that there was
genocide, conceding that only deaths occurred on both Turkish and Armenian sides during the World
War I and that the Armenians mainly died to the poor condition during the War. Even though Turkey
reject that there were no such thing as genocide, many sources point to the sheer scale that genocide
occurred, such as the relationship between the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians before the First
World War, the death march, and the fact that only one specific race had been purposely destructed.
These points give an evident conclusion that the Ottoman Turks had a systematic and organized plan
in order to eliminate the Armenians. Thus, genocide was committed against the Armenian people in
the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
Before the First World War broke out, the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians had serious conflicts
with each other. In 1908, a group of young Turks forced the Sultan out and took control of the
government and at first, they talked about bringing new freedoms to the Armenian people.

The consequences of Edelman s theoretical explorations in No Future, and Dean s examination of
bareback culture in Breeding Culture have implications well beyond their initial purpose. Both
anthropological analyses of queer culture through the lens of psychoanalysis open a whole new realm
of theoretical discourse and radically decenter the theories of both Freud and Lacan. If one can use
anthropology and psychoanalysis to examine queer subculture, what other areas of theoretical
discourse can one apply this model to?
It is without exaggeration (or abuse of grammar) that I answer this question with an emphatic yes; the
same affirmation given by Derrida, Foucault, and countless other theorists searching for an answer to
the eternally sublime, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The real, the sexual instincts, and the organic cell are under the same heading because the real is
impossible to imagine, impossible to integrate into the symbolic order, and impossible to attain in any
way (Ross; quoting Evans and Bowie). It is the impossibility of the real that links it to the sexual and
death instincts (which are essentially the same thing), and the organic cell. To illustrate, Heidegger s
being towards death is the source of his foundational anxious attunement, but being towards death is
not the same as being towards the end (Heidegger 245). It is Heidegger s distinction between knowing
I will surely die someday, and I am dying right now that draws the death instinct into agreement with
the organic cell. This is to say that, while the biological need to reproduce drives the death instinct,
any awareness of the purpose (or expression) of this need cannot be internalized. Likewise, one cannot
be aware of their biological imperative (per the organic cell) for immortality through reproduction;
these desires and instincts are not repressed, they are beyond the scope of human comprehension.
Moving on to the next column, the imaginary, the ego instincts, and the conscious cell are linked
together as they lie within the realm of unarticulated (but articulable) identifications and idealisations
which are the building blocks of fantasy and ego; it is the most

Analysis Of Sherman Alexie s Novel The Lone Ranger And...
Essay 1 In Sherman Alexie s novel The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven shows the
struggles of daily Native American life, which is shown through the point of view of male character.
All though out the book the following three questions appear: What does it mean to live as an Indian
in this time? What does it mean to be an Indian man? and What does it mean to live on an Indian
reservation? Alexie uses literary devices such as point of view, imagery, characterization to make his
point that the conflict of being an Indian in the U.S. in these short stories using the following short
stories An Indian Education and Amusement . An Indian Education uses both imagery and
characterization to show us what the narrator is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We loaded dirty Joe into the last car and checked his pockets for anything potentially lethal. Nothing.
Sadie and I stood there watched dirty Joe ride... I looked around and saw a crowd had gathered and
joined in on the laughter (56). This shows how caught between the two world these characters are and
how they see themselves in white society. Twenty or thirty white faces, open mouths grown large and
deafening wide eyes turned toward Sadie and me. They were jury and judge for the twentieth century
fancydance of these court jesters who would pour Thunderbird wine into the Holy Grail (56). When
Victor realizes what is going, he comes to the realization that how all white people see Dirty Joe is
how they see all Indians, as a drunken group of people. They see Victor and Sadie as Dirty Joe. Dirty
Joe is the representation of all Indians. To get this point across Alexie uses vivid imagery and symbols
such as Thunderbird wine and the Holy Grail. Thunderbird wines is a cheap affordable wine and since
Indians live on a reservation it something they can afford to get drunk off of. The Holy Grail is usually
seen as a cup holding happiness and substance in abundance. What those two thing correlation is that
an Indians happiness s come from a cheap bottle of wine. But before the story is over Victor is
reminded that he seen as just as Dirty Joe is seen when he is chased down

Question of the Week: Why did you choose this book? Explain.
I decided to choose A Thousand Acres because the book seemed interesting and could have potential
with it being a modern version of Shakespeare s King Lear, but with the setting and plot around an
Iowa farm. And even though the idea might seem strange on paper, it really depends on the execution
(like Chains proved last month).

What I mean is that the idea is about someone is having an amazing life, but serious or bad things
happen to that person which could lead to emotional problems or, in King Lear s case, insanity. Now,
since I am halfway through A Thousand Acres, I can say there are some hints of King Lear. For
example, one of our characters, named Ginny, is showing signs of a mental disorder, something along
the lines of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), and in the beginning, she seems happy and cheery,
meaning that something had to happen for her to get emotional scars. But if we are looking for a
genre, I would say either realistic fiction or domestic realism (which is the genre about 19th century
novels popular with women, which the book kind of is), due to the fact that things like PTSD or abuse
can happen, and it isn t just in the Lifetime movie of the week or in a nightmare, things like this
happen in real life. And the only people you wouldn t acknowledge that fact are people under the age
of 13 and rich people who have been pampered so much that they are unaware of the live of people

Advertising Must Change Long-Term Memory
he impact of affect on memory has been considered by both advertising and neuroscience research. As
part of testing a MAC (Memory [GRAPHIC EXPRESSION NOT REPRODUCIBLE IN ASCII]
Affect [GRAPHIC EXPRESSION NOT REPRODUCIBLE I advertising, four hypotheses were
developed: ads with higher affective content would have higher recognition and recall, and subjects
treated with [beta] blockers (Propranolol), which interact with those brain regions known to mediate
affect, would have lower recognition and recall than those treated with placebos. The hypotheses are
tested and broadly supported. This exploratory research, taken in conjunction with previous work,
indicates some ways in which affect enhances advertising effectiveness. We conclude with directions
for further research and testing the MAC model. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How that memory change is achieved, and how to measure it, are less understood. Advertisers have
long used recognition and recall measures though they have been challenged (Gibson, 1983; Lodish et
al., 1995; Percy and Rossiter, 1997). The mainstream of advertising research rests on cognition as the
primary factor of memory change. Advertising has been thought to need a unique selling proposition,
new news, a logical association, or to remind consumers of memories already in place. The smaller
and more recent stream focuses on affect, such as liking the ad (Biel, 1990; Haley and Baldinger,
1991; Joyce, 1991). This research used [beta] blockers experimentally to test the impact of affect on
the formation of ad memories, as measured by recall and recognition. The ingestion of [beta] blockers
inhibits the experience of emotion though they do not remove the subject s ability to recognize
emotion in the stimulus (Greenblatt et al., 1993; Cahill et al., 1994). They have no impact on attention
nor cognitive

My Service Learning At A Non Profit Organization
Introduction:
I did my service learning in a non profit organization called Skills Inc. It is a residential facility that
works with adults with intellectual disabilities and recovering addicts who have some kind of mental
health diagnosis and other challenges to achieve their goals through employment and supportive
services. The facility also contains an on site factory that operates a saw mill and employs some of
their clients. My service learning included shadowing a case manager, who maintained daily contact
with the clients that works across the street at the saw mill. In order for a client to be able to work at
the mill they must pass a specialized assessment created by the facility to ensure that the client is

and I have always remembered people calling it the dummy farm. As sad as it may sound, I had called
it the dummy farm too, because it is a recognizable landmark in my area and I had grown up hearing it
being referred to that. I had always wondered how they could dare to let those people work around
such dangerous machinery as a saw mill. My attitudes and beliefs have definitely changed because of
my experience, I found out that these people are no different than I am and should be treated with
respect that I would want to be treated with. The answer to the question of how they dared to let those
people work there is simple. The employees at the mill are just like any other factory employees. It is
always kept clean and maintained and as any other mill has its daily quota without any crazy people
running around causing havoc.
Reflect on ways these attitudes and beliefs have changed as a result of working in this diverse
situation and on how you feel this change contributes to your ability to promote civic engagement to
others. Most of the clients under the care of Skills are people who are capable of taking care of
themselves even the clients who are mentally challenged. I guess I thought going into this field that
every client would be unruly and difficult to work with. I found out that is not the case, the client is
not only seeking help, but is also ready to

The Guilt Of Premeditated Murder In Edgar Allan Poe s...
True! nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?
(Poe). In Tell Tale Heart, Edgar Allan Poe illustrates that the narrator has an acute need of the old man
s vulture eye and eventually murders the man on the eighth night. The author highlights the events of
the murder and soon, the narrator confesses to the police of his guilt. As Edgar Allan Poe fabricates
this short story, he enthralls the readers by giving the events specific detail. If Edgar Allan Poe were to
ever continue the story where the narrator would be put on trial, he would be guilty of premeditated
murder. The reason for this is because the narrator cunningly planned the murder, had a motive of
killing the old man, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the narrator was criminally insane, he wouldn t be deceptively kind to the man everyday before the
night of the murder. Also, some characteristics of criminally insane is that you would lack the mental
capacity, would not know the difference between right and wrong, and finally you wouldn t be able to
control your actions. If the narrator ever lacked the mental capacity, he wouldn t be able to plan out
what he was going to do. From the perspective of the premeditated murder side, he planned out what
he was going to do. For example, if he was criminally insane, he would not be deceptively kind to the
old man, he would just not talk to him for the rest of the week and eventually the old man would
suspect something.
The second reason why he is guilty of premeditated murder is that he had a motive. A motive to
assassinate the old man. In the short story, the author clearly states that he had a motive to kill the old
man. Such as, It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but, once conceived, it
haunted me day and night. The narrator clearly said that at first, he had the idea to do the deed. When
the narrator had a motive, he decided to make a plan that lasted for about a week. If this was a
premeditated murder, an insane man would not have a motive to kill the man or even thought about it.
The insane man would go and kill the man right

Andre Agassi Family Expectations
The extract from Andre Agassi s autobiography Open is about family expectations. When you ex pect
something particular from someone or something you are talking about expectations. Family
expectations is, therefore when for example when your father has a certain expectation to you, about
the fact that you have to live up to a certain demand from your family.
In the extract from Andre Agassi s autobiography Open we are aware of how there are some fami ly
expectations in his family. He says: when his father was a child, his mother, Andre Agassi s
grandmother, had expectations to his father about how he should behave and be a good boy. He

autobiography are mostly short and therefore, in this case, easier to understand. Andre Agassi is able
to tell his story about his life very well in his autobiography, he makes his autobiography personal in
which way makes the autobiography exciting and inviting. When he uses examples of a dialogue,

Animal Farming In Bangladesh Essay
In Bangladesh, livestock is one of the most potential sub sectors of agriculture which plays an
indispensable role in promoting human health and national economy of the country. Livestock not
only assists to upgrade the financial condition but also makes a substantial contribution to human
nutrition. However, livestock is an integral part of a farming system which has a better contribution to
enhancing the economy of Bangladesh. Large ruminants (Cattle and Buffalo) and small ruminants
(sheep and goat) constitute the major portion of livestock. The present population of livestock is 23.7
million cattle, 1.47 million Buffalo, 25.76 million goats and 3.3 million sheep (DLS, 2015 16). The
total contribution of livestock sub sector to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Bangladesh is
approximately 7.23% and livestock in agricultural production 17.32% (Anonymous, 2007). It also
generates 13% of foreign currency and provides 20% fulltime employment and 50% partial
employment of rural population (Alam, 1993). In this country, 80% rural people are involved with
livestock farming (Siddiki et al., 2009). Most animals are reared in houses under the traditional
husbandry practices where small ruminant especially goat and sheep are mainly reared for several
reasons including meat, wool and skin production (Hossain et al., 2004). The production and
productivity of animals are greatly hampered by different diseases including gastrointestinal parasitic
infections.Gastrointestinal parasitism is a

Freedom In Edna Pontellier s The Awakening
Awakening to Freedom
Awakening or to awake means to wake up; to be or make alert or watchful (Webster 23). This is what
Edna Pontellier experienced in The Awakening.
There has been some discussion over the appropriateness of the ending to this story. Was it appropriate
for Edna to commit suicide? Yes, this story of Edna Pontellier, including the ending, is appropriate to
what a woman probably would have felt like if she were in that time feeling what Edna was feeling.
Edna committed suicide because there was no other way out. She did not fit into society. Her thoughts
and emotions were not the same as the thoughts and emotions of the other women of this time. Edna

Mrs. Pontellier was beginning to realize her position in the universe as a human being, and to
recognize her relations as an individual to the world within and about her (547). She looked at and
heard things as if for the first time. The very first chords which Mademoiselle Reisz struck upon the
piano sent a keen tremor down Mrs. Pontellier s spinal column (556). She decided that she would
move out of her house with her husband and children and would move into a small apartment by
herself. This is something that women of her day simple did not do. Edna was different.
Everything seemed new to her. She began to paint for a living. Most women of her time did not work,
but relied on their husbands for support. She rarely missed her children and only visited them once the
entire summer. Edna felt alone. She attached herself to young men that she thought would take her
away from the place where she didn t belong. She fell in love with Robert because he was the one who
started the awakening. It was you who awoke me last summer out of a life long, stupid dream (620).
She imagined that he would take her away to a place where they could be happy and she could be who
she wanted.
Edna was wrong. Robert was a man of the times. He didn t believe in Edna s ways.

Mental Illnesses In Canada
Over the past decades, mental health has become a prominent social issue. People around the world
suffer from mental illnesses. The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) reports approximately
20% of Canadians will have a mental illness within their lifetime Fortunately, society has become
educated towards this dilemma. We now have clubs/ programs that inform about the problem. We hear
that more and more plans towards improving mental health are already in the works (while some have
been completed). Just like every social issue, mental illnesses do carry some controversy. However,
this controversy may be the reason that many do not seek help for it. Apparently, around 50% of

From personal experience, I had a couple friends who have gone through various mental illnesses like
depression and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). There may not been a scientific or
logical approach towards analysing one s mental health. It does not make it anymore real. I have
witnessed a bunch of people go through this. They were known to be pretty normal and easy going to
others. When it came to me, they did not have to put up their facade. After they confided in me with
the truth, it only became clearer just how upset and depressed they really were. At times, they do not
really need to say anything. You can sense the vibe of self hatred and extremely thoughts just pulsing
through their brain. Society does not need any scientific evidence to prove that someone is feeling
emotions of resentment, sadness, anger, or grief. We can see through one s behaviour; Maybe that
person may actually reveal their true thoughts to the world. Nevertheless, mental illness is a real
problem. Having the stigma that mental disorders might not exist can only stop those suffering from
getting the treatment that they need. Removing the thought that mental illness is merely an illusion can

Benzoyl Chloride Lab Report
The chloride in benzoyl chloride would induce a partial positive charge on the carbon in the carbonyl
group. This carbon would also have a partial positive charge due to the electronegativity of the oxygen
attached to it. The partial positive charge enables the carbon to be attack by nucleophiles, such as
ammonia. When the ammonia, a neutral nucleophile, attacks the electrophilic benzoyl chloride reacts,
it will result in a tetrahedral intermediate. Intermediated will regenerate the C=O bond and cause the
chlorine group to leave and a positive charge on the nitrogen. A second ammonia will transfer one of
the hydrogens from the positive nitrogen to itself, resulting in a neutral final product. The primary

First, the percent yield was 58.4%. This is not the best nor the worst percent yield there could be. The
reason why this was too low could be because some of the product at the end kept sticking onto the
equipment. This resulted in some product not being weight. Second, the melting point of 122 124
degrees C is close to the benzamide s melting point of 128 130 degrees C. This indicates that the
product was not 100% pure, due to the fact that the final melting point was lower than pure benzamide
s would be. However, it is only 6 degrees difference. This means that there was only a small amount of
impurities. Lastly, the IR spectrum. The peak at 3367.18 cm 1 represents asymmetric N H bond and

Membranes Case Study
GO has also been mixed with the polymeric matrix to fabricate different nanocomposite membranes,
such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) MF/UF [141,224,225], polyether sulfone (PES) NF
membranes [226] and PSf [162]. One of the main drawbacks of the blending technique is the absence
of GO direct exposure to foulants, which restricts the interaction between foulants and GO.
Accordingly, the superior GO features, in terms of antifouling, will not be entirely exploited. The
direct deposition of GO nanosheets on the membrane surface is a more effective technique for fouling
control, hence the GO/foulants interaction can be maximized. The exceptional structure of GO confers
a considerably greater contact area for the convenient interaction ... Show more content on

The employment of GO leads to the production of small, uniform, stable and distributed AgNPs in
addition to improved silver loading and ion release control. Several applicable and effective
techniques for the fabrication of freestanding ultrathin rGO membranes were reported. One of these
techniques was exemplified by Liu et al [220], in which a reinforced GO membrane was shaped on a
mixed cellulose ester (MCE) filter through the filteration of diluted GO dispersion. The formed
GO/MCE membrane was then positioned over a hydriodic acid solution, where the GO membrane
rapidly changed to a black colour, confirming the reduction of GO to rGO by the acid vapour.
Furthermore, a new water filtration membrane was fabricated by LbL SA as it is an effective method
to generate dense layers on a membrane support [229]. This method was successfully used to integrate
the negatively charged GO nanosheets with a porous poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) support through the
positively charged poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) by electrostatic interaction [211].
Additionally, GO based FO membranes were fabricated in several studies. The first trial was
conducted by Park et al [222], in which GO nanosheets were combined with the PSf to produce a
novel membrane with a PSf/GO composite support layer. The PA active layer was then shaped on the
PSf/GO via IP to obtain the

  • 2. Parable Of The Black Veil The mystery, curiosity and suspicion that an ordinary old man can bring to himself with only wearing a black veil. Mr. Hooper the minister with a black veil has everyone interested in what he has to hide, not only that but also understand why he began to wear it in the first place. This black veil alone had costed him many things like his wife, his friends, and the children to fear him. in this manner Mr. Hooper spent a long life, irreproachable in outward act, yet shrouded in dismal suspicions; kind and loving, though unloved, and dimly feared; a man apart from men (1259) , yet the protagonist does not take it off no matter what others say about him. He keeps his veil on to teach a lesson and to prove that the black veil is the item that keeps their secrets hidden. He keeps the veil on as a representation of not only his secret sin but also wears it to represent the darkness that humanity has committed. Yet after wearing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start, the black veil is the symbol of sin and also proves that no one in this life or any other life is perfect. After that comes the thought that everyone, even myself, has a symbolic veil, similar to that of Mr. Hooper, that covers our sins from others. The final theme represented in this story would be that people should not focus on the sins of others but instead look at their own sins. To look for a way of redemption to their own sins before they could start looking at other people s sins. So to sum it up the main theme of this is that everyone commits sins and of course this is a normal thing because no one in this world is perfect. Yet that does not mean that others should be so concerned with the sins of others. Instead look for a way of redemption, focus on the secret sins you have committed first. Because one day, as Mr. Hooper once said, There is a hour to come when all of us shall cast aside our veils ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Assisted Suicide Should Be Legal Or Illegal In 2013, 122 people had prescriptions written out to them to go through euthanasia, while 71 people actually went through with it and died from the medicine (FIND CITATION). Some people decide not to use the prescription after rethinking the idea. People have been debating for a long time on whether or not physician assisted suicide should be legal or illegal. Some say that it is morally wrong to participate in any kind of suicide, while others say it is wrong to let terminally ill people suffer when they have absolutely no chance at beating their disease. This is a very important controversy because people need to know all of their possible options when diagnosed with a terminally ill disease. Patients are also supposed to make the decision of their care, and they cannot make the right decision if they cannot have all of the options. Physician assisted suicide ought to be legalized in all states and nations to allow patients to have control of their terminal illness so they can decide whether or not they want to suffer for the rest of their short life or end it in a peaceful way. Dr. Jack Kevorkian was known for helping terminally ill patients commit suicide medically before most people even knew it existed. Kevorkian became famous in 1990 when Janet Adkins climbed in the back of his van and let Kevorkian inject a needle into her arm. However, Kevorkian did not inject the medicine in her. Adkins pushed a button that released the medicine herself. She decided to die ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Taylor s Scientific Management Principles in Current... Firstly, big companies are often divided into several departments to focus on specialization, since the change in structure allows them to divide the tasks of the whole organization into manageable sub tasks and allocates them to organisational units that are responsible for their completion (Rollinson, 2005: 461). However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized jobs concerned with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing circumstances (ibid: 463). So, scientific management works better with small companies which do not usually need to react to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). This lack of flexibility, the main defect attributed to the Fordism model (which adopted Taylorism s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CHRM´s responsibilities involve, among others, job design, staff selection, training and motivation and job performance criteria, all of which were Taylor s contributions (Bell and Martin, 2012: 107). Thus, following Taylor s ideas, organizations in our days make huge efforts to hire the right people to a position and to train them to develop their skills (Mckinnon, 2010: 1). One example could be human resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced workers with great potential and, then, train and develop their skills so that they can make very valuable workers for a low cost (Babío et al, 2007: 50). 3. Bringing the scientifically designed job and the scientifically designed workers together (Rollinson, 2005: 9). This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the developed science. Even though the basic job of a manager is to guarantee that an organization achieves its goals, a key aspect to take into account is making sure that employees are performing their tasks so that they contribute to the accomplishment of organization s goals (Certo, 2003: 3 4), and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11). • 5. Censorship on the Internet Essay Censorship on the Internet Five years after the first world wide web was launched at the end of 1991, The Internet has become very popular in the United States. Although President Clinton already signed the 1996 Telecommunication ActI on Thursday Feb 8, 1996, the censorship issue on the net still remains unresolved. In fact, censorship in cyberspace is unconscionable and impossible. Trying to censor the Internet its problematic because the net is an international issue, there is no standard for judging materials, and censorship is an abridgment of democratic spirit. Firstly, censorship on the Internet is an international issue. The Internet was constructed by the U.S. military since 1960s, but no one actually owns it. Thus, the Internet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why do people still argue about that? It is all about personal points of views. Justice Douglas said, To many the Song of Solomon is obscene. I do not think we, the judges, were ever given the constitutional power to make definitions of obscenity. II. In cyberspace, it is hard to set up a pool of judges to censor what could be displayed on the net. Thirdly, censorship works against democratic spirit, it opposes the right of free speech and is a breach of the First Amendment. Do you remember Salman Rushdie and his book The Satanic Verses? Iranian government announced a death threat to kill Rushdie and his publishers because his book speaks against Islam. No one wants that to happen again. If you are one of the Internet users, you should have seen a blue ribbon logo. The blue ribbon symbolizes a support for the essential human right of free speech. Let think about what happen if we lost the right of free speech. How can we stay online? Who gives courage to the web s designers to put their opinion on the net? On the same day when the 1996 Telecommunication Act signed in law, a bill called House Bill 1630 was introduced by Georgia House of Representatives member Don Parsons. It is so repel that this law even limits the right of choosing email addressesIII. Freedom of speech on the Internet deserves the same protection as freedom of the press, freedom of speech, or freedom of assembly. said Bill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This statement can be readily depicted through various texts which include Raimond Gaita s memoir, Romulus My Father and Universal Studio s 2004 film, Hating Alison Ashley. Both of these texts involve various techniques that assist in portraying the concept of belonging to both an environment and to relationships. Belonging is a concept that is more complex than it first appears. The two protagonists both find themselves at odds with the environment throughout different stages in the film. Erika Yuken is competent in her own way but out of place within her community and school environment. However, it appears to be a matter of perception, Erika believes that she is better than or different from what she actually is. This attribute makes her think that she is above everyone and ultimately creates barriers between her interacting with her peers and in turn belonging to her school environment. Erika and Alison both feel insecure and awkward in their school environment, but for varying reasons. Erika assumes she doesn t belong and that she should be someone else. Life can be lonely when you re exceptional. This reflective statement reveals that she thinks herself to be better than others and also highlights the isolation she feels because of this perception. • 11. Stock Characters In Roman Comedy In Roman comedy, the use of stock characters helped to represent common archetypes in society. Stock characters were also used to allow for audiences to easily understand a production, as the characters were so commonly seen. In modern movies and specifically American comedy, stereotypical characters are often used that demonstrate society s beliefs about certain types of people. These characters are often used satirically to mock the stereotypes that lead people to judge others. Regardless of when stock characters are utilized, they point to the ideas that a society has about certain types of people during a specific time period. The stock character of the leno, or brothel keeper or pimp, is a character that many, if not all, Romans would have immediately recognized. The leno is represented in Plautus Pseudolus by a character named Ballio. He owns the love interest of Calidorus, master of Pseudolus, and is known for his greed and physical harshness towards his slaves. He is seen in the play constantly beating his slaves, and he calls them names such as whip spoilers (139), which indicates that Ballio beats them so much that his whip becomes spoiled. Ballio fits the classic definition of a leno, as he is extremely greedy and only cares about money. He compromises his morals constantly in order to make more money, and he almost seems proud to accept his bad character. The most important example of this is when he sells Phoenicium, Calidorus love interest, to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Was Genocide Committed against the Armenian People in the... WAS GENOCIDE COMMITTED AGAINST THE ARMENIAN PEOPLE IN THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE DURING WORLD WAR I? In some countries, it is highly forbidden to mention the Armenian Genocide, which took place during the First World War with an approximate number of one and a half million Armenians exterminated. Currently around the world, there are still arguments whether genocide took place in the Ottoman Empire, targeting the Armenians. However, Turkey continues to firmly deny the fact that there was genocide, conceding that only deaths occurred on both Turkish and Armenian sides during the World War I and that the Armenians mainly died to the poor condition during the War. Even though Turkey reject that there were no such thing as genocide, many sources point to the sheer scale that genocide occurred, such as the relationship between the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians before the First World War, the death march, and the fact that only one specific race had been purposely destructed. These points give an evident conclusion that the Ottoman Turks had a systematic and organized plan in order to eliminate the Armenians. Thus, genocide was committed against the Armenian people in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Before the First World War broke out, the Ottoman Turks and the Armenians had serious conflicts with each other. In 1908, a group of young Turks forced the Sultan out and took control of the government and at first, they talked about bringing new freedoms to the Armenian people. ... It is the impossibility of the real that links it to the sexual and death instincts (which are essentially the same thing), and the organic cell. To illustrate, Heidegger s being towards death is the source of his foundational anxious attunement, but being towards death is not the same as being towards the end (Heidegger 245). It is Heidegger s distinction between knowing I will surely die someday, and I am dying right now that draws the death instinct into agreement with the organic cell. This is to say that, while the biological need to reproduce drives the death instinct, any awareness of the purpose (or expression) of this need cannot be internalized. When the ammonia, a neutral nucleophile, attacks the electrophilic benzoyl chloride reacts, it will result in a tetrahedral intermediate. Intermediated will regenerate the C=O bond and cause the chlorine group to leave and a positive charge on the nitrogen. A second ammonia will transfer one of the hydrogens from the positive nitrogen to itself, resulting in a neutral final product. The primary purpose of the experiment is to synthesis ... The reason why this was too low could be because some of the product at the end kept sticking onto the equipment. This resulted in some product not being weight. Second, the melting point of 122 124 degrees C is close to the benzamide s melting point of 128 130 degrees C. This indicates that the product was not 100% pure, due to the fact that the final melting point was lower than pure benzamide s would be. However, it is only 6 degrees difference. This means that there was only a small amount of impurities. Lastly, the IR spectrum. The peak at 3367.18 cm 1 represents asymmetric N H bond and the peak at 3181.04 cm 1 represents symmetric N H bond as they are relatively close to the documented peaks of 3350 cm 1 and 3170 cm 1. ... • 32. Membranes Case Study GO has also been mixed with the polymeric matrix to fabricate different nanocomposite membranes, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) MF/UF [141,224,225], polyether sulfone (PES) NF membranes [226] and PSf [162]. One of the main drawbacks of the blending technique is the absence of GO direct exposure to foulants, which restricts the interaction between foulants and GO. Accordingly, the superior GO features, in terms of antifouling, will not be entirely exploited. The direct deposition of GO nanosheets on the membrane surface is a more effective technique for fouling control, hence the GO/foulants interaction can be maximized. The exceptional structure of GO confers a considerably greater contact area for the convenient interaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The employment of GO leads to the production of small, uniform, stable and distributed AgNPs in addition to improved silver loading and ion release control. Several applicable and effective techniques for the fabrication of freestanding ultrathin rGO membranes were reported. One of these techniques was exemplified by Liu et al [220], in which a reinforced GO membrane was shaped on a mixed cellulose ester (MCE) filter through the filteration of diluted GO dispersion. The formed GO/MCE membrane was then positioned over a hydriodic acid solution, where the GO membrane rapidly changed to a black colour, confirming the reduction of GO to rGO by the acid vapour. Furthermore, a new water filtration membrane was fabricated by LbL SA as it is an effective method to generate dense layers on a membrane support [229]. This method was successfully used to integrate the negatively charged GO nanosheets with a porous poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) support through the positively charged poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) by electrostatic interaction [211]. Additionally, GO based FO membranes were fabricated in several studies. The first trial was conducted by Park et al [222], in which GO nanosheets were combined with the PSf to produce a novel membrane with a PSf/GO composite support layer. The PA active layer was then shaped on the PSf/GO via IP to obtain the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Family And Authority In Antigone Antigone Essay Family and authority are common themes and misconceptions in the play Antigone. When comparing the essential themes of family and authority, Creon and Ismene characterize the theme of authority, while Antigone and Haemon value family. In the play Antigone, The protagonist Antigone defends her rights to have a proper burial ceremony for her brother Polyneices who was killed in war. Creon uses his authoritative power and puts a curse on whoever buries Polyneices, will perish. Antigone proves that authority from Creon cannot stop the reckless love and concern for her family. Creon and Ismene encounter many instances of authority, and obeying the laws in order to please the Gods. Throughout the play, Creon and Ismene portray ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
