John Walker Case Summary
The second probe concerned allegations of coordination between the Walker campaign and several pro
Walker political action committees during his recall election in 2012. After exhaustive legal battles at
several levels of the state court system the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in a sweeping decision, ruled
the Walker campaign had not violated any campaign finance laws. Importantly, a lower court had
previously determined that no laws were violated even if Walker s campaign and the groups had
worked together. Walker, along with fellow republican, chose to denounce the second John Doe probe
as without merit and politically motivated: They were looking for just about anything. As I pointed out
at the time, it was largely a political witch hunt. Court documents released as a ... Show more content

Regardless of Walker s decision making process, the Governor should ve been able to develop a
policy avenue that minimizes conflicts of interest while also achieve his desired goals. If Walker had a
legitimate and dutiful motive for carrying out the changes to the campaign finance, ethics, and John
Doe investigatory standards, then the governor should have taken additional steps to insulate himself
from the policy changes. For example, the Governor could have postponed the rule changes until the
end of his political career (final term), thereby removing the perceived incentive to position himself
against future ethics violations. While it is impossible to address the ethical implications of the policy
change itself, the ethically dubious manner in which the two matters were passed. Because it is
difficult to wholly understand the motive for these changes, given the nuances of the political system,
any suggestions posed in this paper must be limited to the Goerner s decision to spearhead the shifts in
policy. Similarly, it would be interesting to make a determination of ethicality in the actions of the

The Fear Of Communism In Arthur Miller s The Crucible
Beware of Artists, They mix with all classes of society and therefore are the most dangerous, reads
one of the numerous forms of propaganda distributed by Senator Joseph McCarthy. The following
quote was a dominant factor to The Crucible itself because the fear of communism personally affected
Arthur Miller. The play represents an analogy to the Red Scare in the 1950 s because the Salem witch
trials had many similarities to America during this time. The Red Scare was a time of mass hysteria
for the nation. It occurred during the Cold War, which was after World War II, when the Soviet Union
and America were undergoing economic and political altercations. Due to some Americans previously
helping the Soviet Union during World War II, it was greatly feared that those very Americans would
commit treason by providing the Soviet Union with information that could harm American society and
the security of the United States (Red Scare). Nevertheless, during the 1990 s, sources revealed that
three hundred or more American communists did give Soviets information during World War II. This
concludes that espionage was a legitimate threat. Furthermore, the question remains, were the actions
to prevent communism taken too far? Joseph McCarthy played a large role in the second Red Scare
because essentially he was responsible for the false accusations of innocent people in order to look
more powerful. Consequently, McCarthy s tactics involved many to be placed on a blacklist, or

Abstract
This paper presents a comparison of mechanical properties of 17 4PH stainless steel parts built by
selective laser melting (SLM) additive manufacturing process with the wrought 17 4PH stainless steel
parts. The microstructure is analyzed using optical microscope and the mechanical properties are
evaluated using tensile testing according to ASTM E8 standard. Overall, the SLM fabricated samples
demonstrated superior tensile properties and the microstructure is strongly influenced by the SLM
process. The SLM processed specimens showed higher ductility and ultimate tensile strength than
wrought samples.

Lantana and Snow Falling on Cedars
Lantana and Snow Falling on Cedars present a variety of relationships that explore the restrictions of
characters in a culturally limiting society, and ones with intertwining emotions and secrets that contain
a darker reality. The crucial type of relationship in both texts is the forbidden connections that are
abundant with unrealistic expectations, developed through characterisation as the plot progresses. The
texts also display the relationships that have become dysfunctional after significant events, detailing
the long term effects on the characters through dialogue. The two texts provide elaborate explanations
on these relationships, while exploring the reactions of the characters and their position in the
relationship.
Both texts incorporate characterisation to portray the character s position in the relationship and the
outcome of their association. The unrealistic love between a young Ishmael and Hatsue, as well as the
temporary connection between Jane and Leon represent the forbidden relationships in the novel and
film. Ishmael is portrayed as a character with the belief that love conquers all, which is depicted
through his declaration that If we love each other we re safe from it all. Love is the biggest thing there
is. , similar to Jane s representation as a naïve character searching for emotion with Leon, through her
attempts to approach him with more than physical intentions. Although they each become physically
engaged, it is Ishmael and Jane who become

Finally Odysseus makes his men evacuate, and they make it to the land of the Cyclopes. Once they re
on the mainland they search for food, and explore. Soon they come across an empty cave that is full
food, and animals. His men try to make haste, but due to Odysseus s taking too long, Polyphemus the
Cyclopes, son of Poseidon appears. At first the one eyed giant appears to be hospitable, and offers
food and tells them to relax. Then he becomes hostile, and adds to the tragedy of Odysseus crew by
killing two of Odysseus men, and imprisons Odysseus along with the rest. Odysseus wants to kill
Polyphemus right then, but he knows that only Polyphemus is strong enough to move the rock that he
has placed across the door of his cave. Odysseus then decides to devise and execute a plan. The next
day, Odysseus gets him drunk on wine that he brought along from the ship. Feeling under the
influence, Polyphemus asks Odysseus his name; Odysseus replies that his name is Nobody , As soon
as Polyphemus collapses with intoxication, Odysseus and a select group of his men drive the red hot
staff into his eye. Polyphemus wakes with a shriek, and his neighbors come to see what is wrong, but
they leave as soon as he calls out, Nobody s killing me (Via class discussion). Through the

Australian Higher Education Curriculum Analysis
The Australian Higher Education quality assurance framework, introduced in 2000, had the core
function to ensure that quality assurance policies added value to the higher education sector and
positioned Australia as a major stakeholder in the global trend to towards for profit higher education.
In 2005, the Australian Vice Chancellors Committee (AVCC), after reviewing quality assurance
frameworks, committed itself through the code of Practice and Guidelines for Australian Universities,
to the principle that; the provision of education services to international students, both on shore and
off shore, brings with it the ethical commitment that quality education be provided and that value be

If you ask me something about baby s sleep, I can confidently tell you, that with my first child I ve
seen it all. Well, at least our sleep issues throughout these years gave me the right to say so.

Nursing to sleep when possible, rocking, breastfeeding on demand, respondin to baby s cry, you name

May I just say, how exhausted I was? May I add that the exhaustion still continues, because I believe
some things should be done differently at the beginning?
Two years ago, I stumbled upon a very insightful book. The book is called Bringing Up Bébé and it
describes the parenting approach in France. I was stunned after I read that French kids start sleeping
through the night as early as 6 weeks old. What intrigued me even more, is that French parents
achieved this not by using cry it out technique, which they don t condone.
The book immediately got me thinking if I could achieve such sleep success by using French methods.
This week I m continuning to study the book along with Kelly from The Primarily Insipired. Here you
can read my full post on French parenting and how they deal with baby s sleep issues along with
children s behavioral problems.
I m very curious to know, what is your approach to baby s sleep issues and what methods worked for

Quotes From The Kite Runner
1. Don t rush the process. Simba wanted to be king at a young age and he wasn t ready for that yet. He
doesn t know how hard it is to take on a big responsibility like his father Mufasa did. And when Simba
tried to be brave like his dad, he realized it was scary. Mufasa told Simba that Being brave doesn t
mean you go looking for trouble I m only brave when I have to be Mufasa (Hahn 1994). Afterwords,
Simba understood that being brave is easier said than done. From that, he took advantage of the
freedom of his youth until he was responsible enough to be king. The young needs to take advantage
of their youth and not to rush their childhood.
2. Hakuna matata, it means no worries. Simba is brainwashed by his uncle Scar to thinking he killed
his father. Simba ran away to die, but Timon and Pumbaa found him and showed him the key to a
happy life is to have no worries. People today are too stressed out about the past or current events that
are happening in their lives. Being too stressed/worried can cause you to be depressed living a
unhappy life. Sometimes, you need to take a step back, cope with the situation and settle back. ...

Believe in yourself. Simba believed in himself when he was younger but a tough obstacle arrived in
his life, his belief in himself was exterminated. Simba thinks he isn t king because he doesn t believe
he can be a king. When you believe in yourself, anything is possible. Remember who you are Mufasa
(Hahn 1994). Simba forgot his old self and how he was courageous because he believed in himself.
But as he lost confidence in himself, so did his belief in changing himself. When Rafiki persuaded
Simba to return back to Pride Rock and become king. Simba knew he had to take back what s his from
Scar. He believed he could overcome Scar and his belief in himself made others around him believe

The funding mainly comes from school fees and income from investments, gifts and charities. The
building and land is owned by the governing body, and as many of these schools have charitable status
they would be tax exempt. They will set their own admission policy and curriculum through the
governing body and head teacher. (L/O 1.2) Academies Initially a school had to source funding of £2
million from businesses, charities or faith bodies to become an academy, however this requirement
changed in 2010. The Government decided to allow any school within England the chance to achieve
academy status with the involvement of the local community. An academy is obliged to follow the
National Curriculum, but has certain freedom around its delivery. Its funding comes from central
government rather than the LEA, which would be at the same level per pupil as a maintained school.
This allows the academy to choose how their budget is spent in a way that s most beneficial to its
students. (L/O 1.2) Key Stages and Areas of Study As previously mentioned, children from the age of
5 to 16 who are educated in a maintained school must be taught the National Curriculum. This sets out
the key stages and core subjects they will follow throughout their time at school. Within this
framework, schools can plan and organise the way they teach to best meet the needs of their

Short Story Casey At The Bat
In the short story Casey At The Bat the author uses humor to tell the story. I think the author does it to
explain the depth and meaning of the story. The author makes it where we expect something totally
different then what`s about to happen. Also I think the author uses it to tell the story better. I think this
because in the beginning of the story all the people were excited because Casey was coming up to bat
like they were screaming his name and everything. So that makes the reader think he`s a big deal
because everyone is going crazy when Casey steps up to the plate. So the first to balls that were

Epidural Anesthesia Essay
Spinal and Epidural Anesthesia
Spinal anesthesia and epidural anesthesia are methods of numbing a part of your body during a
medical procedure. They involve an injection of a numbing medicine (anesthetic) in your back, near
your spinal cord.
Spinal anesthesia is usually done to numb your body from the level of the injection downward. It is
often used during surgeries of the pelvis, hips, legs, and lower abdomen. It begins working almost
immediately after the injection.
Epidural anesthesia may be done to numb the area above or below the injection. It is often used during
childbirth and after major abdominal or chest surgery. It takes 10 20 minutes to begin working.

PROCEDURE
You will be connected to several monitors. The connection can be via patches on the chest, a cuff
around the arm, or a sensor device on a finger. The monitors will allow your health care provider to
watch your blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels to make sure that the anesthetic does not cause
any problems.
An IV tube may be inserted to give you fluids and medicines throughout the procedure as needed.
You will be asked to lie on your side with your knees and chin bent toward your chest, or you may be
asked to sit up. These positions open up the space between the bones in your back and makes it easier
for the medicine to be injected.
The area of your back where the medicine will be injected will be cleaned.

16 Bit Processors. The Year 1989 Saw The Leap From 8-Bit
16 bit processors. The year 1989 saw the leap from 8 bit to 16 bit consoles with NEC s TurboGrafx 16
and Sega s Genesis 16, both of which featured six channel stereo sound. The 16 bit processing chip
offered by Sega could process two times as much data per cycle as the earlier 8 bit processors.
Additionally, it included an 8 bit processor solely for sound. Combined, this resulted in a clearer, fuller
sound; larger, more detailed games; better developed characters; complex graphics; and faster action.
Finally, home video game systems could compete with the performance features of the much larger
coin operated arcade games. With this increase in technology, Sega was able to surpass the Nintendo

The 32 and 64 bit Game Systems. From 1993 through 2000, the video game industry jumped from 16
bit to 32 bit, and eventually to 64 bit systems (Gerald Lynch). As 64 bit systems emerged, the mere
classification of bit numbers became less important due to the fact that performance now depended on
increasingly important factors such as processor clock speed, bandwidth and memory size. However,
there were benefits to be gained from the 64 bit upgrade. Enhanced speed and memory allowed games
to render more realistic collisions, lifelike simulations of graphics and real time multi channel audio
features. This era proved to be dominated by the Nintendo 64 and the Sony PlayStation. Sony entered
the market in 1995 at the 32 bit level with its PlayStation able to provide CD quality stereo sound,
including built in support for digital effects such as reverb and looping. One year later, Nintendo

How Fast Charging Is Becoming The Leading Technology
Fast charging is becoming the leading technology used to reenergize electric vehicles in 30 60
minutes. With the ownership of EVs doubling each year, the need to implement efficient, fast charging
infrastructure is progressively increasing. There are two technical approaches to establish fast
charging 1. via a high power, 3 phase AC connection from an AC charging post at the charging station
to an on board high power charger in the EV or 2. via a high power DC connection from a high power
DC charger at the charging station directly to the terminals of the battery in the EV. In this section, we

Effects Of The Halo Effect
The contrast effect where it is assumed that the recruiter is not able to delegate his work because he
told them that he is a perfectionist. The contrast effects deals with the fact the you evaluate people by
their characteristics that was observed recentlyduring the interview and now the recruit has been judge
on his comment on his personal character as a perfectionist that heis not good in delegating his work.
This is only a perception and maybe totally not true and this perceptual error could lead to the fact that
this recruit does not get the job.The characteristic of someone that is able to define their weakness is
looked at as a positive attribute of a candidate, and thus recruiters make direct comparisons of
different candidates by directly comparing them on just this one criteria.
The Halo effect affects recruiters perceptions. Because of an avalanche in resumes Worldwide Panel
LLC received for the four vacancies, the officials rejected numerous applicants just by asking them
What is your greatest weakness? . The recruiters formed an overall impression from the applicants

I liked the composition of this photo. It was taken from underneath, looking down the length of the
pier. What I loved about this photo is that the pillars closest to the lens are much distorted and the
Pacific Ocean has soothing yet eerie radium like glow to it. It s a very strange photograph and I
absolutely loved it. The second photo was titled The Coffee Shop. Photo is a black and white print
taken in Italy 2010. It is of a group of men (I think) and they appear to be walking in the middle of a
road or alley away from the camera. What really liked about this photo is the graininess of it and the
contrast of the snow covered street and the dark clothing that the men are wearing. What I loved about
this photo is that I could feel the bone chilling cold, like I was actually there.
The last photo was another black and white print. This photo was titled Canals and was taken in
Amsterdam 2010. This photo seems to be taken from a bridge crossing over the canal or maybe from
some sort of vessel on the canal. I m just taking guesses; I am not familiar with Amsterdam. I liked
this photo because I can see all the way down this canal and there is so much detail in both the
shadows and the highlights of the photo, just

The Controversy Over Corporal Punishment In Schools
If you saw a teacher hitting their student, would you think it was okay or would you disagree?
Corporal punishment of any child in school should be illegal in all states. Corporal punishment in
school is causing the student pain in response to undesired behavior. It might involve hitting the
student across the buttocks or the hand with a cane, wooden paddle, slipper, belt, or wooden yardstick
(ruler). With corporal punishment you are not promoting a safe school, you can t sue the teacher who
hit your child if the child gets hurt badly, and your also promoting violence into the vulnerable child s
life; you re making a criminal. But, some might care to see that corporal punishment is okay and we
can have it.
For instance, when you go to school their motto might be, We have a safe school ; Jefferson s motto is
Safe, respectful, and responsible. According to http://www.debate.org/, if there are teachers
corporeally punishing the student as a form of discipline, the child will never feel safe in that school.
Students are supposed to go to their teachers for help but if their teacher is beating them the student
will never ask for help and they will struggle in class, possibly causing grades to go down. Some
schools also have a moto that includes being healthy. If the child was hit hard enough to the point

(Henderson, Nevada) Probate litigation involves the contesting of a will and is something many

type of litigation has many scared they may find themselves in middle of a costly and lengthy dispute
over a loved one s assets, but this isn t the case. Individuals concerned about preparing their estate or

Sadly, this isn t the case, as every estate goes through the process, as it must be determined who gets
his or her assets. Debts must be paid, assets distributed and the final wishes of the deceased respected,
when possible. There are laws governing the process, and they tend to be complex.
Probate1 works with individuals to ensure the process runs smoothly. Our firm works to get the heirs
the maximum amount allowed by law, while fulfilling any obligations. The probate lawyer may be
called in at any time, to create the will, establish a trust or develop documents for a person s medical
power of attorney, among other things. In addition, the lawyer can handle the filing of the estate with
the court, Jackson goes on to say.
Estate planning addresses the distribution of assets prior to a person s death. With the estate plan, the
court understands the deceased s final wishes and how he or she wishes their assets to be shared. For
some, the process is simple, as the assets are jointly owned or aren t of high value. Others, however,
have estates that require special consideration. This is true when there are children involved or the

U.s. Should Adopt A Free International Trade Policy
The question of whether the U.S. should adopt a free international trade policy is a hotly debated one.
Currently, the U.S. has a relatively open trade policy and enjoys free trade with twenty countries1 and
more are being added to this list through new agreements. But does it benefit from free trade?
Evidence, which I will present in this paper, show that the benefits of free trade highly outweigh the
little and often misinterpreted disadvantages. In light of this, the U.S. should adopt a free trade policy
and look forward to new trade agreements. When evaluating the benefits of free trade, the first
economic concept we must look at is comparative advantage: the comparative benefit one nation has

consumers would face inflated prices in a market devoid of international competition. However,
cheaper goods are not the only advantage of free trade. Trade involves exports too, and as 95% of the
consumers in the world are outside of the U.S., free trade opens a portal for the U.S. producers to sell
their goods to a larger pool of consumers who potentially value the goods more than the U.S.
consumers.5 According to Daniella Markheim and Anthony Kim of The Heritage Institute, without
free trade, the U.S. manufacturers would be limited to selling to a lower number of consumers inside
the U.S. and this would mean less firms producing, fewer jobs, and even lower wages. They say
Today, the $12 trillion U.S. economy is bolstered by free trade, a pillar of America s vitality. American
exports support one in five U.S. manufacturing jobs. Jobs directly linked to the export of goods pay 13
to 18 percent more than other U.S. jobs. 6 Further, United States Trade Representative estimates that
the U.S. exports supported 11.3 million jobs in 2013. This clearly demonstrates how exports through
free trade is beneficial to the U.S. economy. Evidence also shows that free trade stimulates a chain of
growth in the economy because as economy becomes better as an effect of free trade, spending in the

Since the Age of Enlightenment, people have put emphasis on words such as how and
why in order to acquire knowledge. To this day, an insatiable desire for information and understanding
can be found in every discipline. More specifically, in the field of criminology, there s an extensive
battle to identify the etiology of drug abuse. This heightened effort is rationalized by the fact that, in

In other words, parents who demand very little and lack responsiveness, such as unengaged parents,
leave their child open to corruption and allow them to develop deviant tendencies. Baumrind
(1975:36) reiterates this in her case study, stating that extremely competent children are never
products of homes in which both parents demonstrate noninvolvement in care taking . Both of these
studies concluded that the amount of restraint involved in any given parenting style has a direct
correlation to how heavily reliant people become on illicit drugs. Nearly every family has a keepsake

idiosyncrasies that they ve picked up from their own family. For this reason, it s important to
incorporate the family s history of drug abuse into the discussion. In a like manner, doctors will often
begin their search for a diagnosis by asking if there is any pertinent medical history in the family. This
is primarily because, when conducting research, the family history method is the quickest and easiest

Gender And Sexual Identity In Shakespeare s Novel,...
Over the course of the summer I read Jeffrey Eugenides novel, Middlesex. The novel depicted the
journey of Cal, the narrator, as he struggled with his gender and sexual identity. I found Eugenides use
of first person narration compelling because it allowed me to feel a greater connection to Cal, the
narrator. Throughout the novel he provided insight on his experiences, while also telling the tale of his
family s immigration to Detroit, Michigan. By relaying stories of Desdemona and Lefty s early
experiences in Smyrna and America I felt as though I gained a deeper understanding of Cal and his
family. However, because he was not present during these events, I felt conflicted over whether or not
he was a trustworthy, authoritative narrator. He simply retold what information he had been fed, thus I
felt he lacked ethos and credibility. Additionally, I was intrigued by the various settings throughout the
novel and felt they added to the overall appeal and intrigue of the plot. In the novel Cal described the
polarization and hatred of two opposing social groups in both Smyrna and Detroit: in Smyrna the
Greeks versus the Turks and in Detroit the blacks versus the whites. This subtle juxtaposition was
alluring and allowed for Eugenides to develop underlying conflicts different than the conflicts that Cal
and his family struggled with. I interpreted this foil as a means by which Eugenides added his own
social commentary to the novel, as he illustrated that regardless of the

Threat of new Entrants: The threat of new entrants within the airline industry is very low. This is due

The Impact Of Charlie Chaplin s Impact On Film
Throughout this course, we have talked about a lot of different directors, photographers, artists, actors,
etc., involved in some of the most foundational and original films during the silent film era. However,
the person who really intrigued me the most was, none other than, Charlie Chaplin. In fact, I d like to
use this paper to further explore his life and career to gain some perspective on who he was and the
steps it took for him to rise to fame. I believe his impact on film throughout his life was extremely
influential, and in order to understand that impact, I must start from the beginning. Charles S. Chaplin
was born in London, England on April 16th of 1889. His father, Charles Chaplin Sr. and mother,
Hannah Harriett (stage name: Lily Harley), each doubled as vocalists and stage performers. Thanks to
his parents, Charlie discovered his talents at an early age. He was only five years old when he made
his first appearance on stage as a fill in for his mother at a music hall performance. After that, his
passion for the performing arts could only grow larger. However, his life took a dramatic turn after his
father left and his mother was subsequently put into an asylum, all before the age of ten. Because of
this, Charlie and his brother Sydney were set off on a hard journey where they were left to fend for
themselves. After two years spent with his half brother in an ill kept orphanage, doing his best to use

The most perfect example of their family values is when Don comes home from the Hospital and the
family ahs a big dinner, and they do not talk business at the table. When the Family is look on as a
regular family as you get drawn in, you then see surprisingly and rudely awakened to the killings of
the movie.
The director of the movie(Frances Ford Copolla) has a very good use of montage, and long shots.
Capolla starts off the movie with an extrodonary shot of an undertaker saying this is America. Which
gives a glimpse of how haunting the film is going to be? A good use of long shots is perfect when the
camera pans around the long shot as Mikey takes on the responsibility of getting revenge for his
fathers shooting. Also a good example of Copolla s long shots is when the film is about to end and
there is a shot of Diane Keaton looking so innocent and really knowing nothing of the family business.
In the film, montage is used in the baptism scene. The shots cut when all the highly religious questions
are asked of Mike, and then the shots start cutting back in forth from the killings of the head s of the
other top five family s and the baptism, portraying mike as a changing person(a god man to an evil

The music of The Godfather, is very haunting and scary at times, but also takes on a folklore type of
theme. I think the music is typical for this type of film, but it does contribute a lot to the family values

Giving the responsibilities of creating and executing the budget to department heads or at least a
committee of qualified staff members is a educated move because they have the best understanding of

of any department, then the power would shift up to the director and the board members. They would
be responsible for raising additional money to fill any income gaps they find reasonable (Lord 161).
The next category that the financial mission statement tries to fill is priorities. Maintaining current
exhibitions and collections is the main priority because they are what make money. The main

taxes eventually is for our interest. The tax money helps the government to do things for us as a
society, such as financing culture events, helping elders and people in need. However, asking us to risk
our lives for something that not all citizens believe worth fighting for is not in our interest. People
should not be forced to enlist in the army, which is one reason why we should not reinstate the
military draft. In other words, since we live in a country based on freedom, the government should not
take away our right to decide if we want to fight or not. We should not be forced to fight a war. We
should not be forced into the meat grinder and possibly killed

  • 2. John Walker Case Summary The second probe concerned allegations of coordination between the Walker campaign and several pro Walker political action committees during his recall election in 2012. After exhaustive legal battles at several levels of the state court system the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in a sweeping decision, ruled the Walker campaign had not violated any campaign finance laws. Importantly, a lower court had previously determined that no laws were violated even if Walker s campaign and the groups had worked together. Walker, along with fellow republican, chose to denounce the second John Doe probe as without merit and politically motivated: They were looking for just about anything. As I pointed out at the time, it was largely a political witch hunt. Court documents released as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of Walker s decision making process, the Governor should ve been able to develop a policy avenue that minimizes conflicts of interest while also achieve his desired goals. If Walker had a legitimate and dutiful motive for carrying out the changes to the campaign finance, ethics, and John Doe investigatory standards, then the governor should have taken additional steps to insulate himself from the policy changes. For example, the Governor could have postponed the rule changes until the end of his political career (final term), thereby removing the perceived incentive to position himself against future ethics violations. While it is impossible to address the ethical implications of the policy change itself, the ethically dubious manner in which the two matters were passed. Because it is difficult to wholly understand the motive for these changes, given the nuances of the political system, any suggestions posed in this paper must be limited to the Goerner s decision to spearhead the shifts in policy. Similarly, it would be interesting to make a determination of ethicality in the actions of the presiding judges ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Fear Of Communism In Arthur Miller s The Crucible Beware of Artists, They mix with all classes of society and therefore are the most dangerous, reads one of the numerous forms of propaganda distributed by Senator Joseph McCarthy. The following quote was a dominant factor to The Crucible itself because the fear of communism personally affected Arthur Miller. The play represents an analogy to the Red Scare in the 1950 s because the Salem witch trials had many similarities to America during this time. The Red Scare was a time of mass hysteria for the nation. It occurred during the Cold War, which was after World War II, when the Soviet Union and America were undergoing economic and political altercations. Due to some Americans previously helping the Soviet Union during World War II, it was greatly feared that those very Americans would commit treason by providing the Soviet Union with information that could harm American society and the security of the United States (Red Scare). Nevertheless, during the 1990 s, sources revealed that three hundred or more American communists did give Soviets information during World War II. This concludes that espionage was a legitimate threat. Furthermore, the question remains, were the actions to prevent communism taken too far? Joseph McCarthy played a large role in the second Red Scare because essentially he was responsible for the false accusations of innocent people in order to look more powerful. Consequently, McCarthy s tactics involved many to be placed on a blacklist, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lantana and Snow Falling on Cedars Lantana and Snow Falling on Cedars present a variety of relationships that explore the restrictions of characters in a culturally limiting society, and ones with intertwining emotions and secrets that contain a darker reality. The crucial type of relationship in both texts is the forbidden connections that are abundant with unrealistic expectations, developed through characterisation as the plot progresses. The texts also display the relationships that have become dysfunctional after significant events, detailing the long term effects on the characters through dialogue. The two texts provide elaborate explanations on these relationships, while exploring the reactions of the characters and their position in the relationship. Both texts incorporate characterisation to portray the character s position in the relationship and the outcome of their association. The unrealistic love between a young Ishmael and Hatsue, as well as the temporary connection between Jane and Leon represent the forbidden relationships in the novel and film. Ishmael is portrayed as a character with the belief that love conquers all, which is depicted through his declaration that If we love each other we re safe from it all. Love is the biggest thing there is. , similar to Jane s representation as a naïve character searching for emotion with Leon, through her attempts to approach him with more than physical intentions. From that, he took advantage of the freedom of his youth until he was responsible enough to be king. The young needs to take advantage of their youth and not to rush their childhood. 2. (L/O 1.2) Academies Initially a school had to source funding of £2 million from businesses, charities or faith bodies to become an academy, however this requirement changed in 2010. The Government decided to allow any school within England the chance to achieve academy status with the involvement of the local community. An academy is obliged to follow the National Curriculum, but has certain freedom around its delivery. Its funding comes from central government rather than the LEA, which would be at the same level per pupil as a maintained school. This allows the academy to choose how their budget is spent in a way that s most beneficial to its students. The year 1989 saw the leap from 8 bit to 16 bit consoles with NEC s TurboGrafx 16 and Sega s Genesis 16, both of which featured six channel stereo sound. The 16 bit processing chip offered by Sega could process two times as much data per cycle as the earlier 8 bit processors. Additionally, it included an 8 bit processor solely for sound. Combined, this resulted in a clearer, fuller sound; larger, more detailed games; better developed characters; complex graphics; and faster action. The novel depicted the journey of Cal, the narrator, as he struggled with his gender and sexual identity. I found Eugenides use of first person narration compelling because it allowed me to feel a greater connection to Cal, the narrator. Throughout the novel he provided insight on his experiences, while also telling the tale of his family s immigration to Detroit, Michigan. By relaying stories of Desdemona and Lefty s early experiences in Smyrna and America I felt as though I gained a deeper understanding of Cal and his family. However, because he was not present during these events, I felt conflicted over whether or not he was a trustworthy, authoritative narrator. He simply retold what information he had been fed, thus I felt he lacked ethos and credibility. Additionally, I was intrigued by the various settings throughout the novel and felt they added to the overall appeal and intrigue of the plot. In the novel Cal described the polarization and hatred of two opposing social groups in both Smyrna and Detroit: in Smyrna the Greeks versus the Turks and in Detroit the blacks versus the whites. This subtle juxtaposition was alluring and allowed for Eugenides to develop underlying conflicts different than the conflicts that Cal and his family struggled with. I interpreted this foil as a means by which Eugenides added his own social commentary to the novel, as he illustrated that regardless of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Advantical Analysis Of Qantas Airways Limited Rivalry among Competitors: High. Domestically Qantas Airways Limited has only one competitor in the market, that being Virgin Australia Holdings Limited creating a duopoly. As they are parent companies of smaller airlines. Both companies offer a cheaper airline option (Qantas jetstar and Virgin s Tiger airways) as well as a more corporate option (Qantas and Virgin airlines). Threat of new Entrants: The threat of new entrants within the airline industry is very low. This is due to the high barriers to entry found within the market. The major barrier being the high capital investment required in order to start a new airline. With planes costing millions of dollars as well as starting up routes. The industry is also very heavily regulated by the Australian government through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and Airservices Australia. When looking the aircraft manufacturers (Boeing and Airbus), the bargaining power is low. In the movie; Karate Kid, Daniel moves to Southern California with his mother but finds himself as the target of a group of bullies that happen to take karate classes at Cobra Kai; giving them an advantage at fighting. Daniel later seeks the help from his apartment s repairman, Mr. Miyagi; who happens to be a master of karate. God s relationship with man is not static but evolving, just as the relationship between Daniel and Mr. Miyagi because of the principal of listening, and following covenants made between different parties. We have read about God s creation of man; Adam and Eve in Genesis 1 2, God s education and punishment of both Adam and Eve in Genesis 3 4, and lastly God s Covenant that he made with Abraham; the representative of man, in Genesis 12 22. In Genesis 1 2, God creates the first man named Adam. From Adam, the first woman is created, Eve. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Ge. 1:27) In this passage, God creates male and female in the image of himself. While Eve was in the Garden of Eden, she was tempted by a serpent that tricked her with a piece of fruit from the tree of knowledge and life. This action of temptation leads to the banning of both Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. This is where we learn about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Impact Of Charlie Chaplin s Impact On Film Throughout this course, we have talked about a lot of different directors, photographers, artists, actors, etc., involved in some of the most foundational and original films during the silent film era. However, the person who really intrigued me the most was, none other than, Charlie Chaplin. In fact, I d like to use this paper to further explore his life and career to gain some perspective on who he was and the steps it took for him to rise to fame. I believe his impact on film throughout his life was extremely influential, and in order to understand that impact, I must start from the beginning. Charles S. Chaplin was born in London, England on April 16th of 1889. His father, Charles Chaplin Sr. and mother, Hannah Harriett (stage name: Lily Harley), each doubled as vocalists and stage performers. Thanks to his parents, Charlie discovered his talents at an early age. He was only five years old when he made his first appearance on stage as a fill in for his mother at a music hall performance. After that, his passion for the performing arts could only grow larger. However, his life took a dramatic turn after his father left and his mother was subsequently put into an asylum, all before the age of ten. Because of this, Charlie and his brother Sydney were set off on a hard journey where they were left to fend for themselves. After two years spent with his half brother in an ill kept orphanage, doing his best to use his mother s contacts to reach some sort of acting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The lighting in The Godfather, is very dim and is often said to be compared with a Rembrant. The lighting suggest many things throughout the film like a painting. The most perfect example of their family values is when Don comes home from the Hospital and the family ahs a big dinner, and they do not talk business at the table. When the Family is look on as a regular family as you get drawn in, you then see surprisingly and rudely awakened to the killings of the movie. The director of the movie(Frances Ford Copolla) has a very good use of montage, and long shots. Capolla starts off the movie with an extrodonary shot of an undertaker saying this is America. Which gives a glimpse of how haunting the film is going to be? A good use of long shots is perfect when the camera pans around the long shot as Mikey takes on the responsibility of getting revenge for his fathers shooting. Also a good example of Copolla s long shots is when the film is about to end and there is a shot of Diane Keaton looking so innocent and really knowing nothing of the family business. In the film, montage is used in the baptism scene. The shots cut when all the highly religious questions are asked of Mike, and then the shots start cutting back in forth from the killings of the head s of the other top five family s and the baptism, portraying mike as a changing person(a god man to an evil one.) The music of The Godfather, is very haunting and scary at times, but also takes on a folklore type of theme. I think the music is typical for this type of film, but it does contribute a lot to the family values ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If individuals are forced to participate in a military campaign, the government will be relieved of one of the checks that help prevent them from engaging in unpopular or unwarranted campaigns. Sure, the government makes us do all sorts of things: serve on juries, pay taxes, have a driver?s license. When the government requires possession of a driver?s license it is for our own security, to make sure that only those who are capable to drive are on the road. When we are being asked to serve on jury, it is for our interest as well. As a society, we get to take a part in a legal decision and make sure that justice is done in our country. Even the requirement to pay taxes eventually is for our interest. The tax money helps the government to do things for us as a society, such as financing culture events, helping elders and people in need. However, asking us to risk our lives for something that not all citizens believe worth fighting for is not in our interest. People should not be forced to enlist in the army, which is one reason why we should not reinstate the military draft. In other words, since we live in a country based on freedom, the government should not take away our right to decide if we want to fight or not. We should not be forced to fight a war. We should not be forced into the meat grinder and possibly killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
