Abstract
In order to fully interpret the nation of Iraq s holistic condition during and after the Saddam Era,
Social, Political, and Economic factors must be weighed accordingly and in contrast to each other. In
order to do this, the span of years leading up to 1989, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the era of Saddam was stained with corruption and ethnic cleansing, the stable period
proved to be the height of modern Iraq s existence.
Is Iraq holistically a better nation after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein?
IRAQ DURING SADDAM S REIGN (1989)
SOCIALLY, following the war with Iran in 1988, Iraq was ranked 50 in the 1990 UNDP Human
Development Index, which measures national success in education, GDP, and health. Iraq was nearing
the top of the middle range of countries in regard to the implementation of basic social services and
infrastructure. However, under Saddam s rule, the prosecution of Shiites and Kuwaitis was a normal
occurrence. Called by some a genocide, the period of murder, terror, and persecution faced by these
groups was the foundation for a long lasting unrest within the hearts and minds of Iraqi citizens. The
rest of the Iraqi citizens, however, lived normal, comfortable lives. In the late 20th century, many
traveled from afar to utilize and learn from Iraq s intricate network of hospitals and social centers
regarded as the best in the region. (CIA 2) However, constant war drained Iraq s wealth and decimated
its people. In the Iraq Iran War, Saddam Hussein unwillingly forced Iraq into a disastrous attempt to
overthrow the Islamist government in Iran. When the dust settled, over 200,000 Iraqis were dead, and
more than twice this number were wounded. Iraq s increasing debt, nearing about 75 Billion, soon had

Louise Erdrich s Tracks Essay example
Louise Erdrich s Tracks
In Louise Erdrich s Tracks ;, the readers discovers by the second chapter that there are two narrators,
Nanapush and Pauline Puyat. This method of having two narrators telling their stories alternately
could be at first confusing, especially if the readers hasn t been briefed about it or hasn t read a
synopsis of it. Traditionally, there is one narrator in the story, but Erdrich does an effective and
spectacular job in combining Nanapush and Pauline s stories. It is so well written that one might
question as he or she reads who is the principal character in this story? Being that there are two
narrators, is it Nanapush, the first narrator, him being a participant in the story, who tells his story in

With the importance of Fleur throughout Tracks ;, she can be symbolized as being the nucleus of an
atom. Fleur, being the nucleus while the two narrators are like protons and electrons orbiting around
Fleur. Without the nucleus of an atom, there wouldn t be an atom; just as if there were no Fleur, the
two narrators wouldn t have someone to focus on. On the other hand, if the atom were missing some
electrons or protons, there would be an imbalance, but there would still be some form of an atom. In
other words, each narrator s story can be considered a separate entity. It might not be as complete if
the two stories were together, but because each story has a subject, a motivation and a conclusion. It
can survive on its own. But, because of Fleur s importance in both stories, she cannot be excluded
from either story without afflicting it detrimentally. If we relate this to the novel and eliminate Pauline
and her story, we still have Nanapush telling the history of Fleur and the Chippewa s to Lulu.
However, what is the significance of Nanapush telling Lulu about the history of both her tribe and her
mother?
The reasons are two fold. First, to reunite Lulu and her mother, Fleur. It seems that right from the
beginning, Nanapush tells Lulu, Fleur, the

Dionysian Spirit Research Paper
Three reasons why it s possible to exist as Dionysian spirit: 1. It s where we came from our first
actions, as evidenced in infancy, are Dionysian; all needs of survival are expressed and met through
emotional expression and reciprocation only and instinctively. It is for this reason as well that music,
often the purest expression of emotion outside of a human her/himself, is a child s first non human
connection and stimulus. Children don t need to be taught how to dance; the compulsion to move one
s body in sync with rhythms/emotions is innate. There is a solace afforded by instinctual indulgence,
through the embracing of primordial aspects of existence such as music, that is unattainable through
any other medium and consequently makes such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And its downfall was present even before its inception, by its prerequisite, again, the principium
individuationis. Logic must perish once its unshakeable moral foundation is forced to admit itself
guilty of illogic, and therefore always commits suicide. The instance of being s presence is absurd.
Life is impossible. Yet like a flower sprouting through our great cement art, persists life does, deep
inside the holes from which everything is encountered, as all eyes are empty in the middle. There is no
object without a subject. Thus, although not necessarily dependent on, all is indivisible from
subjectivity, existing merely as representation, as Schoepenhauer (one of Nietzsche s influencers)
would say, and thus making any sort of knowing in the accepted sense of the word impossible. As
logic would have it, an objective view from nowhere is unthinkable and correspondingly senseless, in
both sentiments of the

Immature And Mature Love
In The Art of Loving , the difference in immature and mature love is discussed. In the former, love is
indicated by craziness while in the latter, it is a state of productiveness with elements such as care,
respect and responsibility (Formm, 1989).
Immature love says I love you because I need you whereas immature love says I love you because I
need you . (Insert reference) Immature love is more or less based on emotions and couples are
attracted to each other s physical appearance more than their personality. After having read their
answers, I feel that they had displayed mature love. They knew one another from before but they were
attracted to each other after over a year of friendship. This attraction was not based solely on good
looks but by each other s personality. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intimacy refers to a feeling of attachment, closeness, warmth and understanding between the couple.
Passion refers to physical arousal and desire, sexual longing and a strong emotional need. Lastly,
commitment refers to the decision to denote oneself and maintaining it. Although the two have been
together for only 8 months now, they have exhibited the different elements at different points. One
good example is the point of spending time together at different stages. Samuel is present during her
stressful period like exams. All he does is grabs some snacks for her and reads a book while she
studies. This displays the commitment and dedication to the relationship. Although they have become
close and are connected emotionally, they have yet to become passionately involved or think about the
far future. I would classify them under the liking category and are high on intimacy as of now.

Through the years art has been regarded as a form of communication, emotion, a feeling or expression
of ideas, by which we mean a person or convey something. This demonstration can be captured in a
painting, sculpture or even through writing, which through their expressions disclose the most
characteristic form of a culture. In our society many people show great interest in the art of their
countries and the actual value of all these forms of expression, which contribute in some way to the
promotion of cultural identification. By century to century there has been many creative persons like

Vascular Hyperpermeability Case Study
Vascular hyperpermeability is a causative factor in several disease states including ALI (39). Although
primarily produced in the liver, we observed that the murine pulmonary vasculature also expresses the
extracellular serine protease, HABP2 (36). Therefore, we silenced HABP2 expression in the
pulmonary vasculature and observed that it attenuated LPS and VILI induced pulmonary vascular leak
(36). Since HABP2 is upregulated in ALI, this study examined the functional consequences of HABP2
overexpression and the endogenous inhibitor(s) of HABP2 during ALI.
Reports indicate that the extracellular serine protease inhibitor, C1INH, can effectively bind HABP2
in the blood (27). We therefore examined whether C1INH can colocalize with HABP2 in ... Show

We grew HLMVEC to confluency, changed to 2% media and added either control or 100 ng/ml
C1INH one hour prior to the addition of control, 100 ng/ml purified endothelial HABP2, 1 ug/ml LPS
or 100 nM LMW HA (which we have previously demonstrated can activate HABP2 protease activity
(36)) for 15 minutes. Cells were solublized and the ratio of pSer536 p65 NF kB to total p65 NF kB
was quantitated using an ELISA kit (Abcam). Figure 2 A indicates that preincubation with C1INH
inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated NF kB activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least
likely due to the fact that it can also bind CD44v10 and TLR4 (41). We and others have previously
shown that HABP2, LPS and LMW HA can activate the small G protein, RhoA, in EC (36, 39, 41 44).
Using the same experimental setup at Figure 2 A, Figure 2 B indicates that preincubation with C1INH
inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated RhoA activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least
likely due to reasons stated above. Finally, Figure 2 C indicates that C1INH moderates EC barrier
function. Specifically, pretreatment of HPMVEC monolayers with C1INH (100 ng/ml, 1 hour)
attenuated LPS, LWM HA and purified HABP2 mediated EC barrier disruption while slightly (but
significantly) augmenting HMW HA mediated EC barrier enhancement.
We next switched our focus to an in vivo model of LPS induced ALI. Figure 3 A indicates that, in a

International Copyright Essay
The idea that an author of a literary work has certain inalienable rights to his work has been an
institution found on a national level in many countries for centuries. These rights have taken on
different forms depending on the legal tradition of the country where it is applied. In systems with a
common law tradition, based on utilitarian ideals, the rights were referred to as copyright. In systems
that relied on a civil law tradition, based on philosophical thought and the basic idea of a moral and
natural order, the rights became to be known as author s rights and later expanded to neighboring
rights. Although these rights, and the laws that went along with them, developed in many countries
around the same time in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These laws were upheld unchanged until 1957 when a new copyright act was passed (Goldstein, 9).
Author s right is normally thought to correspond with natural rights, yet this wasn t the case until the
late nineteenth century. This portion of the author s right tradition emerged from the idea that the
personality of the author of a literary work is linked to the work itself. A theory that can be traced back
to Otto von Gierke and Kant (Goldstein, 9). This lead to the separation of personal rights from
economic rights in French law, where it was believed that an author s moral rights were more or less
absolute. As the laws around author s right were being constructed and worked out in many different
civil courts, there was new technology being developed that would challenge the very idea of
authorship. These new technologies, such as photographs and motion pictures would give rise to the
controversy between what was the product of a mechanical creation and what was the work of an
artistic author. These debates would continue and the tradition of neighboring rights would emerge to
provide protection for performances, sound recordings, and broadcasts. The main difference between
author s right and neighboring rights is that the latter doesn t consider the protected works literary or

Telescopes Are Those That Use Both Mirrors And Lenses
Catadioptric: Catadioptric telescopes are those that use both mirrors and lenses to produce an image.
The most common or popular type of catadioptric telescope is the Schmidt Cassegrain telescope.
Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes (SCT) are a catadioptric design, meaning they use both lenses and
mirrors. SCTs are primarily reflecting telescopes, but they use a corrector lens to eliminate aberrations
that would result from the mirror design alone. In an SCT the incoming light passes through the
Schmidt corrector lens (also called a corrector plate) at the front of telescope. It is reflected from a
concave primary mirror at the back of the scope which focuses the light to the front of the telescope
where it is reflected again by a smaller, convex secondary mirror. Finally, the light travels back
through a hole in the primary mirror to the rear of the scope where an eyepiece is located for visual
observing. (Starizona.com, 2015) Below is a ray diagram of a Schmidt Cassegrain telescope: (A
levelphysicstutor.com, 2015) At first it seems that an SCT should have a focal length twice as long as
the length of the tube, since the light travels twice the length of the tube. However, SCTs actually have
focal lengths about 5 times longer than the tube length. This is due to the convex curvature of the
secondary mirror. This effectively magnifies the focal length, making the scope act much longer than
it is. The diagram below shows how a Cassegrain type telescope (such as an SCT)

Joan Of Arc
1430
Joan of Arc has been taken by the Burgundians and taken to the castle of Bouvreuil. It is confirmed
that she is being pronounced a death sentence. On the morning of May 30th, she is to be burned at the
stake at the old marketplace of Rouen. They have charged her with many things, including witchcraft
and dressing like a man. So far, no one has attempted to save her from them, not even King Charles.
He is predicting that they want to take the King and Joan out of power. Therefore, he is fearful to
make an attempt to help Joan.
This all started in 1412 when Joan of Arc was born. She claimed to hear the voice of God at the age of

Distribution Channels and Consumer Adoption
3. THEORY AND LITERATURE REVIEW
This chapter will present the theoretical framework used in this master´s thesis. This chapter gives an
overview of theories explaining distribution channels and consumer adoption. Ending with a literature
review in financial service research, a research area closely related to digital receipts.
3.1. Distribution channels
A distribution chain also known as value chain can be described as a set of interdependent
organizations or businesses involved in making a product or service available, from producer to end
customer (Kotler, et al., 2012).
The function of the value chain is to contribute with cost efficient activities and simplify the purchase
process (Coughlan et al., 2006). But if the chain consists of many actors the ones far back could have
limited or no contact with customers resulting in lost of valuable information (REF).
According to Bucklin (1966) it s important to understand customer preferences when designing the
value chain. This because the value chain will only be viable over time if customers feel that it
provides a form of value. This value is created if the actors of the chain provide activities that result in
cost efficiency and/ or better service. There are five service performance areas where actors can create
this value: unit size, availability, waiting time, variation in production and information (REF).
When designing value chains one must take into account three important dimensions. These are: 1) the
length

Shooting And Elephant By George Orwell
The Cost of Dignity
Although George Orwell is more commonly known for his works such as 1984 or Animal Farm,
another one of his great short stories is Shooting and Elephant. The story discusses a time in which
George is faced with a difficult decision dealing with what the people near him wanted and what he
knew was morally right. This moral dilemma obviously played a large role in the type of person
Orwell became. The story not only lines up with his ideals about government and imperialism, he is
still visited by the events that happened to him in Burmese. Orwell served as an imperial guard, and
this frustrated him to no end. Being part of a system that he hated was difficult for him to stomach. At
the time, India was controlled by Britain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being born in the Machine that is imperialism, showed Orwell the flaws of the politically oppressing a
group of people. He was born to Eric Arthur Blair, but was quickly taken to England and never had
much contact with his father until he retired and returned to England. He was sent to boarding school
and there he began to realize the difference between having money and not. After leaving the boarding
school, the next stop for orwell was college in which he got a scholarship to both Eaton and
Wellington college. This was a huge success for him but landed him in a proverbial writers block. He
wanted to continue his studies but his family was not able to financially help him. So instead he
decided to follow in his father s footsteps and joined the imperial guard. These five years were said to
be awful for George, but it is where he got the inspiration to write this short story. Orwell had a
difficult time after his stint in the guard as well. Coming out, he landed a job as a dishwasher and
struggled to keep himself afloat as he tried to get many stories published. He and his wife then moved
to Spain and joined the civil war that was brewing in the country at the time. He was nearly fatally
wounded from a gunshot he received while he was in the militia, but he survived. Unfortunately, he
was now labeled as a traitor and had to flee the country. When returning to England the couple
adopted a son and George contracted tuberculosis. He had to fight it throughout the rest of his life
leaving him sickly all the time. At this point in Orwell s life, he began to settle down. He became a
critic and took on a few writing assignments until he landed a job as a BBC producer. During this time
WWII was happening just a few countries away and he found himself more of a propagandist rather
than a producer. This is when his

Speech On Grommet
Choosing The Right Grommet Type For Your Application
We have seen it already in many places. Also, we have already used it many times for day to day
applications. Anyway, people don t know the name of it. Well, we refer to the Grommet here. Are you
confused now? OK, go to your bathroom and take a closer look at the bathtub curtain! The curtain
moves along the bar on which it is on thanks to a few metal rings. We call those metal rings;
Grommet. You can see similar items on your shoes. Anyway, those are small items, and we usually
call them eyelets. The whole purpose of this small piece is reinforcing and protecting the hole.
Without the eyelets, the shoelace holes can get damaged from day to day use.

Banners, hospital curtains. tabletop displays, metal bakeware, protective barriers, non skid covers for
RV steps, aerospace parts, and fabrics are the common applications of an aluminum Grommet. Now,

Why aluminum?: Well, we should highlight several properties here:
* Durability: When compared to steel, aluminum is durable and light weight. While it is difficult to
which is the best from aluminum and stainless steel, aluminum is definitely better than ordinary steel.
So, can be used for outdoor applications and for where water and moisture are present.
* Ductility: Well, this benefit is enjoyed by the Grommet manufacturers. When compared to steel,
aluminum is more ductile, hence easy to roll, processed, and stamped. In other words, aluminum
makes the manufacturing process easy and practical.
* Lightness: The high weight is the top downside of steel grommets. Aluminum, on the other hand; is
three times lighter than steel, making it suitable for applications where weight reduction is necessary.
So, installing 3 aluminum grommets adds the same weight as adding one steel

Military Revolution Tactics
The Military Revolution was around the seventeenth century, it was an enlarging role in European
affairs. There was multiple things that changed drastically around the seventeenth century that had to
do with the growth of the military expansion, and tactics to improve the country s ability to fight. A
main reason that was said to cause the Military Revolution, said by the historians, was warfare. Also,
power was a major part that had to do with it. The different techniques that were processed in a short
period of time were the start of the Military Revolution. As a matter of fact, someone that changed the
war tactics in an increasing way was Gustavus Adolphus, which was the king of Sweden. Gustavus
army began something called the salvo which was really different from the way they used to fight,
which was the infantry fired row by row. The salvo was that the rows would fire all at once, so that
caused the opposing squadrons to die in massive amounts. The routine he did was that after shooting
the rivals with his pistol volley, they would then jab the enemies with their blades. Also, they started to
use lightweight fighting equipment to make it easily possible to move, and started to train more, to
start developing better disciplinary actions. Gustavus fighting ... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Arming Pilots

casualties. Save lives by arming pilots. Research proves that when pilots are armed the chances of
them getting hijacked are greatly reduced. Arming pilots will help keep them and the passengers safe
during an incident. During the court sessions Kwame Holman said; Pilots should go through a training
like a law enforcement officer would...with the exception of of the investigation stuff and driving
skills etc. But they would be ready to defend the cockpit and land the plane (Holman). This could keep

Pilots disarmed stated; For 40 years prior to 9/11 the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rule
allowed commercial airline pilots to carry firearms in the cockpit. The rule was adopted in the wake of
the 1961 Cuban missile crisis as a measure to prevent hijackings. Just two months before 9/11 the
FAA rescinded the rule. The FAA also failed to answer any questions or return any calls asking about
why they did so. This shows maybe the government had something to do with 9/11 or they think we
can deal with these catastrophes. In the report U.S. Pilots Seeking to Carry Firearms. Sara Kehaulani
said; despite other steps taken to protect aircraft from strengthening the cockpit doors to train air
crews to resit hijackings many pilots say they will continue to feel unsafe until they are allowed to
carry guns. These pilots are gonna do this because they are concerned for the safety of the passengers
and themselves. Its a concern that will not go away until the needs are met. They have tried to
strengthen the doors and every aspect of security to keep the plane safe and nothing works. It takes
more thank just a strong door and a pilot who can fly the plane. There are just to many dangers to the

The Analysis And Methodologies Of The Existing Problem Essay
Overview
In this chapter, we have discussed about the analysis and methodologies of the existing problem.
4.1 Method Used
After a study of literature review the concluded that the Association rule with Apriori Algorithm is
used in combination of Fuzzy c means clustering and it gives result better Accuracy in web page
prediction. Also we use Association rule with Apriori algorithm and Markov model in web page
prediction then it may also result a highest probability in web page and helped to predict the user
access behavior and also decrease the access time of user. So our new proposed methodology has
following methods: Fig 4.1.1 Proposed Methodologies
1. Web Log Data
The logs files are maintained by the web server by the activity of the client who accesses the web
server for a web site through the browser. The information can be written by the site owner, gleaned
from the other web sites or other sources or contributed by users. The sample web log dataset are: Fig
4.1.1.1 Sample Log Data
2. Cleaning Log Data
In the log data, the entries in the log file for the unwanted view of image, graphics and multimedia by
the users are removed. With the important entries, a web log file may consist of certain undesirable
rather useless data which has nothing to do with the mining procedure. Therefore, it is imperative to
remove those irrelevant entries from the log file. There are three kinds of irrelevant or redundant data
needed to clean: accessorial resources embedded in HTML

The History of Boeing Company
Company History:
The Boeing Company is the largest aerospace company in the world, thanks to its 1997 merger with
McDonnell Douglas Corporation and its 1996 purchase of the defense and space units of Rockwell
International Corporation. The corporation is the world s number one maker of commercial jetliners
and military aircraft. Boeing has more than 9,000 commercial aircraft in service worldwide, including
the 717 through 777 families of jets and the MD 80, MD 90, and MD 11. In the defense sector, the
company makes military aircraft, including fighter, transport, and attack aircraft; helicopters; and
missiles. In addition to its position as the nation s top NASA contractor and the leader of the U.S.
industry team for the International ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boeing also purchased Varney Airlines, which began operation in 1925 and won almost every mail
contract it applied for until it became overextended and had financial difficulties.
1929 34: United Era
With the addition of National Air Transport, Boeing s airline holdings formed the original United Air
Lines. In 1928 all these companies were organized under a holding company called the Boeing
Aircraft and Transportation Company. In 1929 a larger holding company was formed, the United
Aircraft and Transportation Company. Included in this group were the United airlines and Stout
Airlines; Pratt Whitney (engines); Boeing, Sikorsky, Northrop, and Stearman (manufacturers); and
Standard Steel Prop and Hamilton Aero Manufacturing (propellers). Boeing was made chairman of the
company and Fred Rentschler of Pratt Whitney was named president.
Boeing and Rentschler became extremely wealthy in this reorganization by exchanging stock with the
holding company in a method similar to J.P. Morgan s controversial capital manipulation. They
multiplied their original investments by a factor of as much as 200,000 times. It was, however, entirely
legal at the time. In 1933 the government conducted an investigation of fraud and other illegal
practices in the airline industry. Boeing was called upon to testify and explain his windfall profits
before a Senate investigating

Vying for Patients, Hospitals Think Location, Location.
INTRODUCTION. Hospitals are health care institutions that are normally located in areas that are
densely populated. There are over 17,000 hospitals in the whole world. In accord with the original
meaning of the word, hospitals were originally places of hospitality , and this meaning is still
preserved in the names of some institutions such as the Royal Hospital Chelsea, established in 1681 as
a retirement and nursing home for veteran soldiers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospital#General) In
general, hospitals are normally located in areas where they are other major hospitals as a way to
acquire materials at low transportation costs. Unlike other businesses like franchises like McDonalds
that would prefer to be in an area where there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some other cases locating near other hospitals as discussed earlier helps in the reduction of
transport cost. So with this factor one must weigh the benefits of locating away from other hospitals
versus locating near other hospitals. b. The physical facility in terms of building is an important aspect
in consideration of the location of a hospital. Depending on the kind of services the hospital wants to
provide the building facilities must be conducive enough to accommodate the equipment to be used in
the providing of those services. This will greatly impact the quality of services provided by the
hospital that will help in the acquiring of larger market share and optimize profits. c. The geography
and demographic of the hospital s location may plays an important role in market share and profit
optimization. The hospital industry is highly regulated and as such is vulnerable to government
reimbursement. For this reason, a highly profit hospital will likely have a growing pool of
commercially insured patients. So a hospital may rather locate itself in neighborhoods of high income
earners because they are the ones who are likely to have both the money and the insurance to pay the
medical bills. This will greatly help in profit optimization because this will mean less patients
receiving services on credit but rather more patients paying cash

Cassirer, Nietzsche and Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince...
Cassirer, Nietzsche and Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince
When the word Renaissance is mentioned, an image of love for antiquity learning and fine arts usually
springs to one s mind. Yet this perception, however legitimate it may be in many areas of Renaissance
human achievements, shatters in the face of Niccolò Machiavelli s masterpiece The Prince. Unlike his
contemporary Baldassare Castiglione who exemplified subtlety, Machiavelli was ruthlessly practical,
nonchalantly callous, and admirably seamless in his logics about the bloody art of political power.
By all accounts The Prince, is a handbook on the acquisition and maintenance of political power.
Neither can it be argued any otherwise, like Ernest Cassirer has acknowledged in ... Show more

(p164, New Theory of the State ) The keen observer that was Machiavelli merely organized and
publicized the thoughts that once were only whispered amongst the political elites.
However, while The Prince can hardly be convicted of being a product of malice, what the readers
cannot forget is that Machiavelli based his Political Ruler 101 on his fundamental and unshakable
personal philosophical conviction that men are inherently self serving. Cassirer recognizes
Machiavelli for his cynical side: we shall never understand [man] as long as we are suffering from the
illusion of his original goodness (p163, New Theory of the State ). Much like Thomas More who had
the fictional More and Raphael Hythloday two halves of his same philosophical self arguing about the
practicality of an ideal society in Utopia, Ernest Cassirer attempted to draw a distinction between
Machiavelli the idealist who cherished dreams of a Republic and Machiavelli the pragmatist who was
necessarily pessimistic about the natures of human and politics alike. The liberal Machiavelli ventured
that the aim of the common people is more honest than that of the nobles (p28); while the cynical
Machiavelli claimed that any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among
the great number who are not good. (p42)
The darker Machiavelli s views are echoed in Fredrich Nietzsche s philosophy. In his Morals as
Fossilized Violence , Nietzsche charged that humans at

Consequences Of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 And 1965
Consequences of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1965 The passage of the civil rights acts of 1964
and 1965 had immense impacts, especially on the unification of the American society. The passage of
the acts led to the beginning of a reconstruction period in America founded on equality. While they did
not result in the ending of the systemic injustices that had existed in the periods before the civil rights
movement, it created an avenue where future challenges could be dialogued and logical sacrifices
made to make the country a better place for all races. First, the acts resulted in the barring of the
unequal application practices in voter registration. For the first time, the blacks were allowed to
register as voters and choose their leaders.

The Best Solution For Stopping The Tobacco Smoking
1.0) Identification of problem and recognition of business opportunity
Tobacco smoking is one of the largest causes of preventable illness and death in Australia. Research
estimates that two in three lifetime smokers will die from a disease caused by their smoking. The most
recent estimate of deaths caused by tobacco in Australia is for the financial year 2009 10. Tobacco use
caused a total of 14,901 deaths in that year (QuitSmokingSupport.com,2016). There are many ways
through which one could quit Tobacco smoking like using Medicines or E cigarettes. But in recent
studies it was found out that teenagers who use e cigarettes are three times more likely to smoke
normal cigarettes than those who don t amplifies. The problem for most smokers, particularly those
who have previously tried to stop, is that they know that abruptly stopping is going to be a painful and
difficult experience, demanding significant willpower and toughness
(QuitSmokingSupport.com,2016). The best solution for stopping the Tobacco smoking is to use the
disposable cigarette tar filters to stop Tobacco smoking. Disposable cigarette tar filters stop tar going
to body while one is smoking cigarette. Tar filter is made up of organic chemicals including some
carcinogens.

Summary Of Convergence Of The Twain
Convergence of the Twain
The Titanic, born from human greed and wed to fate s punishment, is a modern icon of decadence.
However, Hardy re imagines this icon in his poem The Convergence of the Twain. Instead of an
explicit critique of the ship s ostentatious vanity, Hardy sees The Titanic s sinking as the judgment for
its vaingloriousness and a product of the ship s conception, development, and wedding to fate.
The poem s organization emphasizes a contrast between different states of the ship s existence. In fact,
the author answers how the ship came to being sunk as the poem progresses. The ship, which came
Deep from human vanity/ And the pride of Life that planned her , falls out of grace In a solitude of the
sea . After the source of its vitality is engulfed by death ( Steel chambers, late the pyres/ Of her
salamandrine fires ) , the ship finds itself in an underwater hell where Cold currents thrid, and turn to
rhythmic tidal lyres , and grotesque, slimed, dumb, indifferent creatures profanate what were once
Jewels in joy designed . An inhabitant of this hellish habitat, seeing this gloriousness in vain in such a
deprecated state, asks: What is this doing here? The speaker answers this question by describing how
destiny prepared a sinister mate... A shape of Ice, for the time far and dissociate and how In shadowy
silent distance grew the Iceberg too... as the smart ship grew In stature, grace, and hue . Then, the ship
and the iceberg finally converge being anon twin halves of one august event at the discretion of
destiny, also known as The Spinner of the Years . The organization of the poem implies a metaphysical
statement; fate is the master of all, and servant of none. It doesn t matter how Deep from human vanity
or how many Jewels in joy designed characterize mankind s power; It is all under the jurisdiction of
fate.
Imagery provides Hardy a vehicle to define essential aspects of the relationship between mankind and
nature. The author argues that fate works beyond the authority of mortals; Only it decides to match the
ship and [The] shape of Ice in an ... intimate welding of their later history . In fact, The convergence of
the twain comes only Till the Spinner of

Opinions and Social Pressure Essay
Solomon E. Asch Opinions and Social Pressure Salomon E. Asch in his essay Opinions and Social
Pressure conducted an experiment to determine effects of group pressure towards an individual and
concluded that there is a very strong tendency to conformity even when doing so conflicting with their
own senses of morality. In the experiment a group of young students have to compare length of lines
on two different sheets of paper. On one of them there is a sample single line and on the other one
there are three lines only one of which is same size as the sample line from the first sheet. People
taking part in this experiment are instructed to point at lines that are the same length. At first, during
the experiment the group is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breaking up unanimity of the group in given answers has a significant effect. In the experiment it is
also noted that the rate of wrong answers depends to a considerable degree on how wrong the majority
is. Even with significant difference in length of lines there were still individuals who agree with
majority error. For those participating in this experiment almost all declare that independence was
preferable to conformity. Life in society requires consensus as an indispensable conditions. But
consensus, to be productive, requires that each individual contribute independently out of his
experience and insight. (...) We have found that tendency to conformity in our society so strong that
reasonably and well meaning young people are willing to call white black is a matter of concern
(Salomon E. Asch Opinion and Social Pressure pp.730). The experiment has proven that we live in
times where opinion become very subjective and can be easily modified. Social techniques are wildly
used in marketing and sales or even by lobbyist in governmental decision making process. The
uncertainty of people own senses, opinion or knowledge can be easily abused. Asch s experiment
implements how people believe in the obvious lies. It s shows simple ways of influencing perception,
judgment and action. Results of this experiment trigger a number of social and scientifically
researches like study of Berns

Types Of Investments And Bonds
Introduction
This paper will examine two basic types of investments; stock and bonds, from an investor s
perspective highlighting the advantages and disadvantages between common stock (equity) and
corporate bonds (debt).
Webster Dictionary defines investment as the outlay of money usually for income or profit usually in a
tangible asset such as property . With both stocks and bonds, the only thing tangible is a simple piece
of paper, a certificate. On the surface, these certificates may seem the same, however there is a very
important fundamental difference. Owning a stock certificate is evidence of being a shareholder;
hence money is exchanged for a portion of ownership in a company. A bond certificate, on the other
hand, represents a contract and evidence of giving a loan to a company. Stocks are considered equity
investments and bonds debt investments. This key difference brings its own set of pros and cons to
each of these types of investment and affects their level of risk and return.
The Advantages of Stocks
Corporations issue both stocks and bonds to raise capital to purchase land, equipment, building, or
even pay off debt. However, there are several advantages to investors to purchase a stock in a
corporation over bonds. First, when you purchase a share of stock you essentially become a part
owner in the company. With this ownership comes special privileges, such as the right to vote on who
sits on the board of directors and on matters that could

Good Samaritan Law Vs Good Samaritans
In the U.S. there is no law requiring someone to come to the aid of another person or to help them in a
time of distress. The two articles, If Decency Doesn t, Law Should Make Us Samaritans and Good
Samaritans U.S.A. Are Afraid to Act shine a light on the controversial topic: The Good Samaritan
Law. Although the writers of both articles are talking about the same topic, they both have different
opinions. In the first article, the writer believes that America should have a Good Samaritan Law and
as Americans we should be ashamed of not having such a law. In the second article, the writer believes
that Americans are scared to come to the aid of someone because they fear for their safety and the risk
of being sued. In If Decency Doesn t,

Oppression Of Laws And Law
There are no inherent definitions of right and wrong because we live in a world where there are
countless interpretations of what those two words mean. So much of the time, right and wrong are
defined by authority and reinforced by tradition. The people who are privileged, the ones in power,
they decide right and wrong for the scores of people that follow them. They could have good
intentions or they could be self serving, but it wouldn t matter, because in the end their word is law.
Laws therefore cannot protect justice, just reflect the wills of their writers. Since the definitions of
right and wrong cannot be pinned down, if one wished to have a legal system uphold justice, the laws
would need to be ever changing. However, laws that benefit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One of the biggest grievance of being marginalized is in the definition, one is seen as insignificant or
as an outsider. The marginalized will never win in a shouting match against the majority because no
one is listening. Peaceful resistance draws the attention to the oppressed, a very hard feat to
accomplish without undermining one s cause. Martin Luther King Jr. and others that participated in
the Birmingham protests in the 1960s helped raise awareness about the atrocities that were committed
in the city (Letter from a Birmingham Jail [King, Jr.]). These protests demanded acknowledgement for
those exploited and persecuted, and led to great reform. Without said reform, America would not be
able to call itself a free society today. Whether peaceful protests are just or not is not the most
important aspect of them, they cause citizens to question their belief in laws, which is how a society
evolves. As Charles Frankel reminds readers in his article Is it Right to Break the Law? citizens need
to take responsibility for their choices and their hand in making laws. Peaceful protest help to make
others aware of their hand in the subjugation or empowerment of others. Aware citizens are necessary
for free society, without them, citizens blindly following delivers the government back into the hands

Although the era of Saddam was stained with corruption and ethnic cleansing, the stable period proved to be the height of modern Iraq s existence. Is Iraq holistically a better nation after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein? IRAQ DURING SADDAM S REIGN (1989) SOCIALLY, following the war with Iran in 1988, Iraq was ranked 50 in the 1990 UNDP Human Development Index, which measures national success in education, GDP, and health. Iraq was nearing the top of the middle range of countries in regard to the implementation of basic social services and infrastructure. However, under Saddam s rule, the prosecution of Shiites and Kuwaitis was a normal occurrence. Called by some a genocide, the period of murder, terror, and persecution faced by these groups was the foundation for a long lasting unrest within the hearts and minds of Iraqi citizens. The rest of the Iraqi citizens, however, lived normal, comfortable lives. In the late 20th century, many traveled from afar to utilize and learn from Iraq s intricate network of hospitals and social centers regarded as the best in the region. (CIA 2) However, constant war drained Iraq s wealth and decimated its people. In the Iraq Iran War, Saddam Hussein unwillingly forced Iraq into a disastrous attempt to overthrow the Islamist government in Iran. Louise Erdrich s Tracks Essay example Louise Erdrich s Tracks In Louise Erdrich s Tracks ;, the readers discovers by the second chapter that there are two narrators, Nanapush and Pauline Puyat. This method of having two narrators telling their stories alternately could be at first confusing, especially if the readers hasn t been briefed about it or hasn t read a synopsis of it. Traditionally, there is one narrator in the story, but Erdrich does an effective and spectacular job in combining Nanapush and Pauline s stories. But, because of Fleur s importance in both stories, she cannot be excluded from either story without afflicting it detrimentally. If we relate this to the novel and eliminate Pauline and her story, we still have Nanapush telling the history of Fleur and the Chippewa s to Lulu. It s where we came from our first actions, as evidenced in infancy, are Dionysian; all needs of survival are expressed and met through emotional expression and reciprocation only and instinctively. It is for this reason as well that music, often the purest expression of emotion outside of a human her/himself, is a child s first non human connection and stimulus. Children don t need to be taught how to dance; the compulsion to move one s body in sync with rhythms/emotions is innate. Although primarily produced in the liver, we observed that the murine pulmonary vasculature also expresses the extracellular serine protease, HABP2 (36). Therefore, we silenced HABP2 expression in the pulmonary vasculature and observed that it attenuated LPS and VILI induced pulmonary vascular leak (36). Since HABP2 is upregulated in ALI, this study examined the functional consequences of HABP2 overexpression and the endogenous inhibitor(s) of HABP2 during ALI. Reports indicate that the extracellular serine protease inhibitor, C1INH, can effectively bind HABP2 in the blood (27). We therefore examined whether C1INH can colocalize with HABP2 in ... Cells were solublized and the ratio of pSer536 p65 NF kB to total p65 NF kB was quantitated using an ELISA kit (Abcam). Figure 2 A indicates that preincubation with C1INH inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated NF kB activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least likely due to the fact that it can also bind CD44v10 and TLR4 (41). We and others have previously shown that HABP2, LPS and LMW HA can activate the small G protein, RhoA, in EC (36, 39, 41 44). Using the same experimental setup at Figure 2 A, Figure 2 B indicates that preincubation with C1INH inhibited HABP2, LPS and LMW HA mediated RhoA activation. LMW HA was inhibited the least likely due to reasons stated above. Finally, Figure 2 C indicates that C1INH moderates EC barrier function. Specifically, pretreatment of HPMVEC monolayers with C1INH (100 ng/ml, 1 hour) attenuated LPS, LWM HA and purified HABP2 mediated EC barrier disruption while slightly (but significantly) augmenting HMW HA mediated EC barrier enhancement. • 10. International Copyright Essay The idea that an author of a literary work has certain inalienable rights to his work has been an institution found on a national level in many countries for centuries. These rights have taken on different forms depending on the legal tradition of the country where it is applied. In systems with a common law tradition, based on utilitarian ideals, the rights were referred to as copyright. In systems that relied on a civil law tradition, based on philosophical thought and the basic idea of a moral and natural order, the rights became to be known as author s rights and later expanded to neighboring rights. Although these rights, and the laws that went along with them, developed in many countries around the same time in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These laws were upheld unchanged until 1957 when a new copyright act was passed (Goldstein, 9). Author s right is normally thought to correspond with natural rights, yet this wasn t the case until the late nineteenth century. This portion of the author s right tradition emerged from the idea that the personality of the author of a literary work is linked to the work itself. A theory that can be traced back to Otto von Gierke and Kant (Goldstein, 9). This lead to the separation of personal rights from economic rights in French law, where it was believed that an author s moral rights were more or less absolute. As the laws around author s right were being constructed and worked out in many different civil courts, there was new technology being developed that would challenge the very idea of authorship. These new technologies, such as photographs and motion pictures would give rise to the controversy between what was the product of a mechanical creation and what was the work of an artistic author. These debates would continue and the tradition of neighboring rights would emerge to provide protection for performances, sound recordings, and broadcasts. The main difference between author s right and neighboring rights is that the latter doesn t consider the protected works literary or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Telescopes Are Those That Use Both Mirrors And Lenses Catadioptric: Catadioptric telescopes are those that use both mirrors and lenses to produce an image. The most common or popular type of catadioptric telescope is the Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes (SCT) are a catadioptric design, meaning they use both lenses and mirrors. SCTs are primarily reflecting telescopes, but they use a corrector lens to eliminate aberrations that would result from the mirror design alone. In an SCT the incoming light passes through the Schmidt corrector lens (also called a corrector plate) at the front of telescope. It is reflected from a concave primary mirror at the back of the scope which focuses the light to the front of the telescope where it is reflected again by a smaller, convex secondary mirror. Finally, the light travels back through a hole in the primary mirror to the rear of the scope where an eyepiece is located for visual observing. (Starizona.com, 2015) Below is a ray diagram of a Schmidt Cassegrain telescope: (A levelphysicstutor.com, 2015) At first it seems that an SCT should have a focal length twice as long as the length of the tube, since the light travels twice the length of the tube. However, SCTs actually have focal lengths about 5 times longer than the tube length. This is due to the convex curvature of the secondary mirror. This effectively magnifies the focal length, making the scope act much longer than it is. The diagram below shows how a Cassegrain type telescope (such as an SCT) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Distribution Channels and Consumer Adoption 3. THEORY AND LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter will present the theoretical framework used in this master´s thesis. This chapter gives an overview of theories explaining distribution channels and consumer adoption. Ending with a literature review in financial service research, a research area closely related to digital receipts. 3.1. Distribution channels A distribution chain also known as value chain can be described as a set of interdependent organizations or businesses involved in making a product or service available, from producer to end customer (Kotler, et al., 2012). The function of the value chain is to contribute with cost efficient activities and simplify the purchase process (Coughlan et al., 2006). But if the chain consists of many actors the ones far back could have limited or no contact with customers resulting in lost of valuable information (REF). According to Bucklin (1966) it s important to understand customer preferences when designing the value chain. This because the value chain will only be viable over time if customers feel that it provides a form of value. This value is created if the actors of the chain provide activities that result in cost efficiency and/ or better service. There are five service performance areas where actors can create this value: unit size, availability, waiting time, variation in production and information (REF). When designing value chains one must take into account three important dimensions. These are: 1) the length ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This moral dilemma obviously played a large role in the type of person Orwell became. The story not only lines up with his ideals about government and imperialism, he is still visited by the events that happened to him in Burmese. This was a huge success for him but landed him in a proverbial writers block. He wanted to continue his studies but his family was not able to financially help him. So instead he decided to follow in his father s footsteps and joined the imperial guard. These five years were said to be awful for George, but it is where he got the inspiration to write this short story. Orwell had a difficult time after his stint in the guard as well. Coming out, he landed a job as a dishwasher and struggled to keep himself afloat as he tried to get many stories published. He and his wife then moved to Spain and joined the civil war that was brewing in the country at the time. He was nearly fatally wounded from a gunshot he received while he was in the militia, but he survived. Unfortunately, he was now labeled as a traitor and had to flee the country. When returning to England the couple adopted a son and George contracted tuberculosis. He had to fight it throughout the rest of his life leaving him sickly all the time. At this point in Orwell s life, he began to settle down. He became a critic and took on a few writing assignments until he landed a job as a BBC producer. In 1928 all these companies were organized under a holding company called the Boeing Aircraft and Transportation Company. Included in this group were the United airlines and Stout Airlines; Pratt Whitney (engines); Boeing, Sikorsky, Northrop, and Stearman (manufacturers); and Standard Steel Prop and Hamilton Aero Manufacturing (propellers). Boeing was made chairman of the company and Fred Rentschler of Pratt Whitney was named president. Boeing and Rentschler became extremely wealthy in this reorganization by exchanging stock with the holding company in a method similar to J.P. Morgan s controversial capital manipulation. They multiplied their original investments by a factor of as much as 200,000 times. It was, however, entirely legal at the time. • 22. Vying for Patients, Hospitals Think Location, Location. INTRODUCTION. Hospitals are health care institutions that are normally located in areas that are densely populated. There are over 17,000 hospitals in the whole world. In accord with the original meaning of the word, hospitals were originally places of hospitality , and this meaning is still preserved in the names of some institutions such as the Royal Hospital Chelsea, established in 1681 as a retirement and nursing home for veteran soldiers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hospital#General) In general, hospitals are normally located in areas where they are other major hospitals as a way to acquire materials at low transportation costs. In some other cases locating near other hospitals as discussed earlier helps in the reduction of transport cost. So with this factor one must weigh the benefits of locating away from other hospitals versus locating near other hospitals. b. The physical facility in terms of building is an important aspect in consideration of the location of a hospital. Depending on the kind of services the hospital wants to provide the building facilities must be conducive enough to accommodate the equipment to be used in the providing of those services. This will greatly impact the quality of services provided by the hospital that will help in the acquiring of larger market share and optimize profits. c. The geography and demographic of the hospital s location may plays an important role in market share and profit optimization. The hospital industry is highly regulated and as such is vulnerable to government reimbursement. For this reason, a highly profit hospital will likely have a growing pool of commercially insured patients. So a hospital may rather locate itself in neighborhoods of high income earners because they are the ones who are likely to have both the money and the insurance to pay the medical bills. This will greatly help in profit optimization because this will mean less patients receiving services on credit but rather more patients paying cash ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Cassirer, Nietzsche and Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince... Cassirer, Nietzsche and Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince When the word Renaissance is mentioned, an image of love for antiquity learning and fine arts usually springs to one s mind. Yet this perception, however legitimate it may be in many areas of Renaissance human achievements, shatters in the face of Niccolò Machiavelli s masterpiece The Prince. Unlike his contemporary Baldassare Castiglione who exemplified subtlety, Machiavelli was ruthlessly practical, nonchalantly callous, and admirably seamless in his logics about the bloody art of political power. By all accounts The Prince, is a handbook on the acquisition and maintenance of political power. Neither can it be argued any otherwise, like Ernest Cassirer has acknowledged in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (p164, New Theory of the State ) The keen observer that was Machiavelli merely organized and publicized the thoughts that once were only whispered amongst the political elites. However, while The Prince can hardly be convicted of being a product of malice, what the readers cannot forget is that Machiavelli based his Political Ruler 101 on his fundamental and unshakable personal philosophical conviction that men are inherently self serving. Cassirer recognizes Machiavelli for his cynical side: we shall never understand [man] as long as we are suffering from the illusion of his original goodness (p163, New Theory of the State ). Much like Thomas More who had the fictional More and Raphael Hythloday two halves of his same philosophical self arguing about the practicality of an ideal society in Utopia, Ernest Cassirer attempted to draw a distinction between Machiavelli the idealist who cherished dreams of a Republic and Machiavelli the pragmatist who was necessarily pessimistic about the natures of human and politics alike. The liberal Machiavelli ventured that the aim of the common people is more honest than that of the nobles (p28); while the cynical Machiavelli claimed that any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. (p42) The darker Machiavelli s views are echoed in Fredrich Nietzsche s philosophy. In his Morals as Fossilized Violence , Nietzsche charged that humans at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consequences Of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 And 1965 Consequences of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1965 The passage of the civil rights acts of 1964 and 1965 had immense impacts, especially on the unification of the American society. The passage of the acts led to the beginning of a reconstruction period in America founded on equality. While they did not result in the ending of the systemic injustices that had existed in the periods before the civil rights movement, it created an avenue where future challenges could be dialogued and logical sacrifices made to make the country a better place for all races. • 26. Summary Of Convergence Of The Twain Convergence of the Twain The Titanic, born from human greed and wed to fate s punishment, is a modern icon of decadence. However, Hardy re imagines this icon in his poem The Convergence of the Twain. Instead of an explicit critique of the ship s ostentatious vanity, Hardy sees The Titanic s sinking as the judgment for its vaingloriousness and a product of the ship s conception, development, and wedding to fate. The poem s organization emphasizes a contrast between different states of the ship s existence. In fact, the author answers how the ship came to being sunk as the poem progresses. The ship, which came Deep from human vanity/ And the pride of Life that planned her , falls out of grace In a solitude of the sea . After the source of its vitality is engulfed by death ( Steel chambers, late the pyres/ Of her salamandrine fires ) , the ship finds itself in an underwater hell where Cold currents thrid, and turn to rhythmic tidal lyres , and grotesque, slimed, dumb, indifferent creatures profanate what were once Jewels in joy designed . An inhabitant of this hellish habitat, seeing this gloriousness in vain in such a deprecated state, asks: What is this doing here? The speaker answers this question by describing how destiny prepared a sinister mate... A shape of Ice, for the time far and dissociate and how In shadowy silent distance grew the Iceberg too... as the smart ship grew In stature, grace, and hue . Then, the ship and the iceberg finally converge being anon twin halves of one august event at the discretion of destiny, also known as The Spinner of the Years . The organization of the poem implies a metaphysical statement; fate is the master of all, and servant of none. It doesn t matter how Deep from human vanity or how many Jewels in joy designed characterize mankind s power; It is all under the jurisdiction of fate. Imagery provides Hardy a vehicle to define essential aspects of the relationship between mankind and nature. The author argues that fate works beyond the authority of mortals; Only it decides to match the ship and [The] shape of Ice in an ... intimate welding of their later history . In fact, The convergence of the twain comes only Till the Spinner of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asch in his essay Opinions and Social Pressure conducted an experiment to determine effects of group pressure towards an individual and concluded that there is a very strong tendency to conformity even when doing so conflicting with their own senses of morality. In the experiment a group of young students have to compare length of lines on two different sheets of paper. On one of them there is a sample single line and on the other one there are three lines only one of which is same size as the sample line from the first sheet. Breaking up unanimity of the group in given answers has a significant effect. For those participating in this experiment almost all declare that independence was preferable to conformity. Life in society requires consensus as an indispensable conditions. But consensus, to be productive, requires that each individual contribute independently out of his experience and insight. (...) We have found that tendency to conformity in our society so strong that reasonably and well meaning young people are willing to call white black is a matter of concern (Salomon E. Asch Opinion and Social Pressure pp.730). The experiment has proven that we live in times where opinion become very subjective and can be easily modified. Social techniques are wildly used in marketing and sales or even by lobbyist in governmental decision making process. The uncertainty of people own senses, opinion or knowledge can be easily abused. • 28. Types Of Investments And Bonds Introduction This paper will examine two basic types of investments; stock and bonds, from an investor s perspective highlighting the advantages and disadvantages between common stock (equity) and corporate bonds (debt). Webster Dictionary defines investment as the outlay of money usually for income or profit usually in a tangible asset such as property . With both stocks and bonds, the only thing tangible is a simple piece of paper, a certificate. On the surface, these certificates may seem the same, however there is a very important fundamental difference. Owning a stock certificate is evidence of being a shareholder; hence money is exchanged for a portion of ownership in a company. A bond certificate, on the other hand, represents a contract and evidence of giving a loan to a company. Stocks are considered equity investments and bonds debt investments. This key difference brings its own set of pros and cons to each of these types of investment and affects their level of risk and return. The Advantages of Stocks Corporations issue both stocks and bonds to raise capital to purchase land, equipment, building, or even pay off debt. However, there are several advantages to investors to purchase a stock in a corporation over bonds. First, when you purchase a share of stock you essentially become a part owner in the company. With this ownership comes special privileges, such as the right to vote on who sits on the board of directors and on matters that could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Oppression Of Laws And Law There are no inherent definitions of right and wrong because we live in a world where there are countless interpretations of what those two words mean. So much of the time, right and wrong are defined by authority and reinforced by tradition. The people who are privileged, the ones in power, they decide right and wrong for the scores of people that follow them. They could have good intentions or they could be self serving, but it wouldn t matter, because in the end their word is law. Laws therefore cannot protect justice, just reflect the wills of their writers. Since the definitions of right and wrong cannot be pinned down, if one wished to have a legal system uphold justice, the laws would need to be ever changing. However, laws that benefit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the biggest grievance of being marginalized is in the definition, one is seen as insignificant or as an outsider. The marginalized will never win in a shouting match against the majority because no one is listening. Peaceful resistance draws the attention to the oppressed, a very hard feat to accomplish without undermining one s cause. Martin Luther King Jr. and others that participated in the Birmingham protests in the 1960s helped raise awareness about the atrocities that were committed in the city (Letter from a Birmingham Jail [King, Jr.]). These protests demanded acknowledgement for those exploited and persecuted, and led to great reform. Without said reform, America would not be able to call itself a free society today. Whether peaceful protests are just or not is not the most important aspect of them, they cause citizens to question their belief in laws, which is how a society evolves. As Charles Frankel reminds readers in his article Is it Right to Break the Law? citizens need to take responsibility for their choices and their hand in making laws. Peaceful protest help to make others aware of their hand in the subjugation or empowerment of others.
