Plant Life Saguaro Cactus: The cactus has green steam. The cactus grows in the Sonoran Desert. Old Man Cactus: The white hairy surface helps the plant reflect the hot desert sun. Prickly Pear Cactus: Many desert plants store water in their spongy tissue and animals will eat them for moisture.

Animal Spotlight Thorny Devil The Thorny Devil only eats ants and termites. It lives in Australia. The female Thorny Devil lays 3 to 10 eggs, usually 8, in November or December. It is very, very small and only 16 cm. Their tail is spiny .
In Conclusion… We really wish you could help the animals in the desert. They only have about 10 inches of rainfall per year that cacti take. Animals would have to eat some of the cacti in order to survive. That would make them extinct sooner.
