George Washington led two key battles - the Battles of Trenton and Princeton in December 1776 and January 1777. At the Battle of Trenton, Washington led a surprise attack on Hessian mercenaries, killing hundreds with few American casualties. In the Battle of Princeton, Washington again led a surprise attack, defeating the British and killing General Mercer. Both battles were victories for the American forces early in the Revolutionary War.

• The Battle of Trenton toke place in New Jersey
on the Delaware River. On December 26,
1776. In the U.S. Army only 4 men died and 2
men injured. On the British Army 300 men
died and 100 were wounded.

Dragoons wore red coats and leather crested
helmets. The German infantry wore blue coats
and retained the Prussian style grenadier
mitre with brass front plate. The Americans
dressed as best they could.
