GreatMusicVideoideasfromotherschools
I will be now be analysing some music videos that other schools have produced in their A2
year in A level. Each one has achieved a different grade as it contains different features,
editing skills and interesting narratives. I will be analysing around 2 videos that have totally
different genres and editing skills.

Mise en scene- Throughout the whole production, the main character is shown to go from
wearing a range of different clothes, makeup and hair styles. When the artist is located on
the white background, she is shown to be done up due to her make up being perfect, hair is
straight and she has presentable clothes on. This is dramatically changed when the artist
goes to roam the streets where she is shown to look tired and worn out. Her makeup is
messed up, with dark eyes and wavy, messy hair. This contrast in outfit show to the viewers
that the main character has two different personalities however in both shots she looks
upset, depressed and anxious. This mood does not seem to change even with a costume
change. The video is mainly shot in the evening due to all shots being quite dark; I believe
the group captured the different locations very well.
Camera shots: They took a long/high shot of a busy centre square, this shot was sped up,
maybe showing the fast pace of life in today’s society and maybe showing how fast the main
characters mind is going, this shot is very significant. A shot is presented at the start of the
music video of the main character sat in a dingy cellar with nothing except a mirror. The
camera scans over the room and the mirror, the main character is shown for a slight second
through the reflection of the mirror. I really like this shot as it shows to the viewer that the
artist maybe gets left in the dark, no one really pays much attention to her and this shot
really signifies that.
Editing: The editing within the production is off the scale. The group have lightened and
darkened shots in the correct manor to really enhance the shot and they have even used
different effects to allow the shot to shown through the highest quality it can be. They have
added extras within the production to make it appear professional and this has been
succeeded. For example, they have taken an idea from another music video where a black
screen appears with writing on stating a disclaimer of no drugs or alcohol. This really fit in
well with the production and made the music video look that bit more professional to the
public.
Overall, this is a great A2 production of a music video, the acting of the main character
looked professional, trained and practised.

Mise en scene: This song is more of a dance/house/electro genre and this is shown
throughout the range of locations, lighting etc. There are two different main characters, one
is focused more of the DJ decks, as he is shown through close up shots of him changing the
tones of the music on the decks. The other main character is shown through shots of him
fighting groups of people and then he is presented in a superhero costumes. Both
characters are shown through the song to be powerful and have authority. The location they
used fit in well with the song; the warehouse where the DJ is presented looks really realistic
to what a professional music video would look like.
Camera shots: They have given low shots looking upwards to the DJ to show his authority,
everyone wants to be him and play the music he is playing. They have also used close up
shots of the DJ’s hand on the decks with him unfocused him the background. This looks
really effective and does give a great look on the music video. They have used mid shots of
the other main character to show he is a ordinary person yet when he fights the group of
individuals, they show a low shot of him walking off, this also looks really effective and
shows him to be in power of the situation which had just happened.
Editing: The editing is fantastic throughout, the use of lighting looks great as they have used
blinding multi coloured lights when the DJ scene is on which looks amazing as it looks like a
realistic club. I don’t know if this lighting was added in the editing stage of the production or
whether they had the lights on whilst filming but this was a great added extra to the music
video.
Both videos are totally opposite in terms of the narrative however they are similar when it
comes down to the standard of editing and producing standards.

Textual analysis on other A2 videos

  • 1. GreatMusicVideoideasfromotherschools I will be now be analysing some music videos that other schools have produced in their A2 year in A level. Each one has achieved a different grade as it contains different features, editing skills and interesting narratives. I will be analysing around 2 videos that have totally different genres and editing skills. 1.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C77ZJj1tkVs&list=PL39RK5NuuAt2G582ow_e_ortcge-- zGGN&index=1 Mise en scene- Throughout the whole production, the main character is shown to go from wearing a range of different clothes, makeup and hair styles. When the artist is located on the white background, she is shown to be done up due to her make up being perfect, hair is straight and she has presentable clothes on. This is dramatically changed when the artist goes to roam the streets where she is shown to look tired and worn out. Her makeup is
  • 2. messed up, with dark eyes and wavy, messy hair. This contrast in outfit show to the viewers that the main character has two different personalities however in both shots she looks upset, depressed and anxious. This mood does not seem to change even with a costume change. The video is mainly shot in the evening due to all shots being quite dark; I believe the group captured the different locations very well. Camera shots: They took a long/high shot of a busy centre square, this shot was sped up, maybe showing the fast pace of life in today’s society and maybe showing how fast the main characters mind is going, this shot is very significant. A shot is presented at the start of the music video of the main character sat in a dingy cellar with nothing except a mirror. The camera scans over the room and the mirror, the main character is shown for a slight second through the reflection of the mirror. I really like this shot as it shows to the viewer that the artist maybe gets left in the dark, no one really pays much attention to her and this shot really signifies that. Editing: The editing within the production is off the scale. The group have lightened and darkened shots in the correct manor to really enhance the shot and they have even used different effects to allow the shot to shown through the highest quality it can be. They have added extras within the production to make it appear professional and this has been succeeded. For example, they have taken an idea from another music video where a black screen appears with writing on stating a disclaimer of no drugs or alcohol. This really fit in well with the production and made the music video look that bit more professional to the public.   • 3. Mise en scene: This song is more of a dance/house/electro genre and this is shown throughout the range of locations, lighting etc. There are two different main characters, one is focused more of the DJ decks, as he is shown through close up shots of him changing the tones of the music on the decks. The other main character is shown through shots of him fighting groups of people and then he is presented in a superhero costumes. Both characters are shown through the song to be powerful and have authority. The location they used fit in well with the song; the warehouse where the DJ is presented looks really realistic to what a professional music video would look like. Camera shots: They have given low shots looking upwards to the DJ to show his authority, everyone wants to be him and play the music he is playing. They have also used close up shots of the DJ’s hand on the decks with him unfocused him the background. This looks really effective and does give a great look on the music video. They have used mid shots of the other main character to show he is a ordinary person yet when he fights the group of individuals, they show a low shot of him walking off, this also looks really effective and shows him to be in power of the situation which had just happened. Editing: The editing is fantastic throughout, the use of lighting looks great as they have used blinding multi coloured lights when the DJ scene is on which looks amazing as it looks like a realistic club. I don’t know if this lighting was added in the editing stage of the production or whether they had the lights on whilst filming but this was a great added extra to the music video. Both videos are totally opposite in terms of the narrative however they are similar when it comes down to the standard of editing and producing standards.
