2. The forms and conventions of my music video
The genre of the music in my video is indie rock, I have used the conventions of the indie music videos I have
looked at. The two music videos I studied were ‘Sorry’ by Meg Myers and ‘Into the roil’ by lovely dark. Although
my music video is quite different I still used some elements from the videos and other conventions of the indie
rock genre.
For example In the video I wanted to keep a rough and unpolished look
to it. I accomplished this with the use of a handheld camera,
movements in the frame were quick and quite shaky in some places like
when the red hooded character is running away from the assault for
example. This element was mostly inspired from the ‘Into the roil’ video
when the woman is searching for her partner in the woods. The shaky
camera makes the video look under directed and low budget which is a
big aspect in many other indie music videos.

3. In Meg Myers’s music video ‘Sorry’ most of
the colours are quite light and almost look
white washed, however the more vibrant
colours draw the eye to the more important
things in the frame for example the blue and
purple clothes of Meg’s clothes or the
rainbow coloured streamer the children are
playing with. In my music video I wanted a
similar effect. I made the two main
characters stand out by making them wear
contrasting vibrant colours compared to the
washed out backgrounds.
Another repeated aspect I saw while
researching my chosen music videos was
fast paced editing as the music reached the
chorus. For example the montage of Meg
Myers smashing property in her music
video. When my music video reached the
chorus I cut the clips shorter when the red
character was being chased, this made the
video fit the pace of the music.

4. Narrative, Structure and Representation
I purposefully made the themes of this music video quite mature and threatening.
This is because the music and indie rock genre generally have quite emotional songs
such as ‘Sorry’ and ‘Into the roil’. In ‘Sorry’ Meg is singing about a break up of some
kind, the songs chorus is very punchy and powerful and the visuals are her smashing
objects. The visuals in ‘Into the roil’ are sinister and gets progressively more hectic
which reflects the music's pace. I chose to make my music video look raw and sinister
which I think reflects the music because its quite fast paced and has a low base which
makes the song impactful.

5. The narrative structure of my music video is very fractured and moves around In
time much like the ‘Sorry’ music video which cuts between Meg singing, then
her smashing the house and then back to the past which showed her childhood.
In some of the past shots her adult self is in the frame two which completely
disobeys time and fractures the narrative. My music video also breaks narrative
convention, It jumps between the past which shows the lead up to the conflict
and the present aftermath of the failed attack from the red character. This
distortion of time causes enigmas in the narrative like what happened? Who are
they? The present day shots of the blood and a distressed figure give the video a
sinister atmosphere. This sporadic narrative mimics the explosive nature of the
song especially around the chorus.
My video also have a circular narrative. It begins with some shots of
our two characters legs walking towards the alley and ends with
those shots. I purposefully did this to break the normal narrative
structure and to distort time. I wanted the audience to know the
general story but the plot and shots to be fractured because it
reflects the unpolished nature of the music.

6. Print products I chose to put the text at the
bottom of the advert to make
space and draw attention to
the centre of the image.
I covered the artists face
because I wanted him to be
mysterious which is a
theme/iconography
throughout my products.
Because of this the artist may
get more traction due to
people speculating or
discussing who this person is.
I made his identity hidden by making it
look like someone sprayed red spray
paint over his eyes/face. I chose to
make it look like spray paint because it
suits the gritty atmosphere of the
streets. Also the colour red has
connotations of violence or anger, again
enhancing the rough atmosphere.
I used the font ‘Broadway’ for
the text in this album advert. I
chose this because it because
its bold and is eye catching, it
also has thin parts in each
letter which makes it look
quirky
The text is white on a black
sprayed background because it
makes the text pop out. I made
the images vibrancy and
saturation low which makes
the image looks whitewashed
and that supports the
important information at the
bottom.

7. I made sure to make the images on each side
were angled so the wall brings attention to
the centre where the disk will be. Also the
wall images are simple enough to see and
read the text
The images in the digipak are less saturated and
look whitewashed just like the album advert,
again because it makes it look cold and gritty
which is a running visual theme through my
products.
Each image on either
side are purposefully
directional, I made
sure to make the artist
wear each coloured
hoodie that appeared
in the music video
because its
iconography.
I made the text for ‘Tv
on the radio’
Broadway so it would
stand out from the
image. Also the font
‘Stencil’ is very bold
which also stands out,
but its also quite
industrial and cold.
I’ve made sure to have a lot of conventions in
my digipaks, for example the band name on the
spine.
On the back there are
songs on the outside
so people can see the
contents in the album I
made sure to make on
side of the image a
solid colour so you can
read the songs
