The Contradictions Of Women During The Victorian Era
The Victorian Era took place during 1837 1901 and is known as Queen Victoria s time period. She
was the first English monarch to see her name given to a time period while living. It was a time of
rapid advances in scientific, technological and medical knowledge, and even population growth.
Although Victorian England was based around the ideals of proper etiquette and maintaining high
society , the treatment of women during the Victorian Era highlights the contradictions of this time.
Families in the Victorian Society were known to be rather large consisting of 6 children if they were
wealthy but even larger if they were poor. Women during the 1870 s were known to have on average
six children, but women towards the 1910 s were more likely to have three on average. Victorian
houses differed if you were poor or wealthy. Wealthy families were known to have large extravagant
homes with several bedrooms, large living rooms, parlors and dining rooms separate from the
kitchens. Poor families on the other hand were crowded into one room that sometimes had to hold
families of about twelve children plus the parents. Poor families had more children because it meant
that there were more able bodies to go to work and make money. There are four social ... Show more

In the Victorian times it was better for a woman to accept the fact that their place was in the home
taking care of children, cooking, and keeping the house clean. If a wife separated from her husband
and they had one or multiple kids together, then she would lose all of her rights to see her kids. It was
not until 1887 that the Married Woman s Property Act was established. It gave women the right to
own her own property (Thomas and Thomas). Marriage was looked at as voluntary. The woman had to
do all of her tasks after she completed what she was asked to do by her husband. Marriage was about
companionship as well as authority (Tosh 24 and

Dumb Transgende Stereotypes In Media
Stereotypes are prominent in all aspects of the media. These stereotypes almost always have a
negative connotation and although there is sometimes truth behind a stereotype, they are almost
always based on constructions. The stereotypes in the media are visual therefore they allow the viewer
to engage with it and take in its meaning. In countless films and television shows, blondes are
represented as being unintelligent. This dumb blonde stereotype is the idea that blonde haired people
are less intelligent than those of darker hair. Although there is no scientific proof that blondes are less
smart than those of other hair colors it still seems to be one of the most popular stereotypes portrayed
in the media.
The dumb blonde stereotype also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sturken and Cartwright s essay Modernity: Spectatorship, Power and Knowledge they discuss the
gaze and that it is to look or stare, often with eagerness or desire (76). Sturken and Cartwright also use
Laura Mulvey s idea of the male gaze as an example. Mulvey proposed that the conventions of
popular narrative cinema are structured by a patriarchal unconscious, positioning woman represented
in films as objects as a male gaze (76). The male gaze is closely related to the stereotype of the dumb
blonde. The character of the dumb blonde is always represented as highly sexual and attractive and is,
therefore, the misogynistic male viewer. The blonde woman has put in films as the weak, helpless,
stupid character. This is a result of the male gaze because women are seen as inferior to men in all
aspects and are there solely for the males entertainment. Since this stereotype is so prominent in the
media it has circulated into everyday society. In Gilman s essay What are Stereotypes and Why Use
Texts to Study Them? he states that everyone creates stereotypes... the creation of stereotypes is a
concomitant of the process by which all human beings become individuals (17).

Student Phonological Awareness
In order to develop a student s phonological awareness I would use the following skills and activities
to focus on: Sentence segmentation, syllable segmentation, followed by tither onset rime blending as
well as segmentation and finally working on phoneme segmentations themselves. The reason I
focused on segmentation it that it teaches the student how to break apart words, as well as differentiate
between syllables and phonemes. The first activity we would work on would be sentence
segmentation where I casually work with the student on breaking down a sentence into words. This
could be done by slowly reading a sentence, or having other students reading, and have students either
clap for each word or hold their hands up and add one finger

Thomas Aquinas Proof For God
Thomas Aquinas and Proof for God
Saint Thomas Aquinas lived from 1225 to 1274. He was a Catholic priest in the Dominican Order and
one of the most influential medieval thinkers. He was hugely affected by scholasticism and Aristotle
and recognized for his synthesis of the two aforementioned traditions. Although he wrote countless
works of philosophy and theology across his existence, his most prominent work is the Summa
Theologica. Saint Thomas Aquinas was born in 1225 in Roccasecca in Italy. His father was Count
Landulf of an old highborn south Italian family, and his mother was Countess Theodora of Theate, of
noble Norman descent (Thomas Aquinas 1225 1274). Thomas was the youngest of eight siblings. His
family was considered to be of lower nobility. When he was five years old, he was dispatched for his

Glory In Oedipus At Colonus
In the last of his three Theban plays, Oedipus at Colonus, Sophocles examines the power relationship
and hierarchy between humans and gods, depicting and later asserting the control that gods have over
the fates of humans. Through the attempts and eventual failure of Oedipus to overthrow his
predestined fate to marry his mother and kill his father before the events of Oedipus at Colonus,
Sophocles establishes that humans have limited, if any, control over their lives, dictated by the higher
power of the gods. Thus, since life is limited, the impact and legacy of human life becomes
increasingly more significant. Evident in his consistent pursuit of glory and being remembered by
people even after falling from his former glory as king, Oedipus strives to establish a purpose and
meaning to his life in spite of the predetermined fate that the gods forced upon him. Glory, according
to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is defined as praise, honor, or distinction extended by common
consent. The aspect of glory that Oedipus seeks is the distinction or acknowledgement of his greatness
by the people as a whole, thus leaving an impactful legacy. Despite the fact that the length and fate of
one s life is predetermined by a power higher than oneself, the ultimate purpose of human life is to
leave behind a lasting impression on the world. Oedipus self reflection on his fall from glory and fame
serves to illustrate the consistently unfortunate fate that many mortals are subject to. Before

The Song Analysis Of The Watergate Scandal

Introduction:
Class, interpret what the historical event is in the song.
(Class Answers)
This song was released in 1974 as part of the album Winter America. Gil Scott Heron, the writer, is
from Chicago, Illinois and Brian Jackson, the one who features on the song, is from Brooklyn New
York.
The title of the song, Watergate Blues, can help you infer that the song will discuss the Watergate
Scandal. Watergate is the notorious scandal caused by the United States 37th president, Richard
Milhous Nixon. The Watergate scandal occurred in the morning of June 17, 1972, when several
burglars were arrested in the office of the Democratic National Committee, located in the Watergate
complex of buildings in Washington, D.C.
The highlighted lyrics on page 1, lines 12 13 which read Lemme see if I can dial this number.... Click!

robbery were affiliated with a group known as Committee for Re election of the President, that
president being Mr. Richard Nixon. They had been caught wiretapping phones and stealing
documents. For those of you who do not know, wiretapping is the monitoring of telephone
conversations by a third party who tapped the phone in the first place. The lyric can be seen as a joke
portraying what the burglars were trying to do, since they were wiretapping phones. The clicking

Political Identities in Malaysia since Its Independence in...
Q: Since gaining independence in 1957, which social cleavages have been important in shaping the
identities of political parties in Malaysia?
As is the case for many (relatively) new democracies, Malaysia s electoral backdrop has been
influenced by competing social cleavages since gaining its independence in 1957. But which social
cleavages have been important in shaping the identities of political parties in Malaysia? This essay
highlights which social cleavages have played an instrumental part in maintaining the identities of
each of the major parties within Malaysia, and which cleavage dimension has been politicised to
create the strongest electoral division. It will first assess to what extent social cleavages in Malaysia
have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The resulting cleavage structure is the product of complex relations of crosscutting and reinforcing
cleavages largely defining the setup of a party system which outlines political platforms, individual
party behaviour, and the potential for coalition forming.
To assess which cleavage structures have typically divided voters within a given party system, the
party system must have been frozen whereby the party system has effectively politicised a certain
issue dimension where political parties emerge from and have maintained their relevance in the system
due to the salience of such issues. For many Western democracies, Lipset and Rokkan assessed that
two revolutions have been responsible for structuring certain cleavages in party systems: the national
revolution was responsible for politicising the differences of the centre/periphery and the
religious/secular while the industrial revolution characterised the urban/rural and capital/labour
divides.
However, Malaysia is a relatively new democracy. There has never been a national revolution which
divided the centre/periphery and the religious/secular, nor was it the case of urban/rural and
capital/labour divides of the industrial revolution at least not to the point of freezing the party system.
So how can we apply the model put forth by Lipset and Rokkan to account for the politicisation of
social cleavages in Malaysia? Ufen writes that the structures of party systems mirror real social

The U.S. Design Of Federalism And Adjust Of Energy Were
The U.S. design of federalism and adjust of energy were two integral strands of energy partition one
level and one vertical. The reason for both flat and vertical power adjust was to ensure singular
freedom, the objective the Founding Fathers had at the top of the priority list when they composed the
Constitution. They trusted the best way to save singular freedom was to check government control.
Each branch would check the other branch of the new national government. In any case, since a
national government won t not take a look at itself, the national government should likewise be
checked by the states. The 50 states were to be a balance to the national government.

The Founders comprehended that the national government s just innate preferred standpoint is
consistency. On the off chance that everything must be precisely the same in each side of the nation, if
all need to walk a similar way and talk a similar way, then the national government is the ideal scene
to achieve that assignment. The national government could pre empt the states and constrain
consistency. Assuming, however, imagination is required, the states and not the national government

neighborhood governments are the main levels that could support innovativeness. The national level
has an excessive number of layers of organization to support thought outside the notorious box. The
vertical adjust of energy between the national government and state governments was the basic part of
our sacred arrangement of government. After some time, be that as it may, Congress and the courts
gradually wore down the vertical partition of forces. Starting with the Progressive Era, the American
framework changed and the guideline protections of federalism were debilitated. Today, a great

Informative Speech On Thyroid Gland
Did you know that every cell of the human body has thyroid hormone receptors? They re intricately
woven into the DNA. So, if you think about it, the thyroid gland basically has control of the entire
body. As part of the endocrine system, the thyroid secretes hormones directly into the bloodstream,
and these hormones are responsible for regulating many bodily functions. It controls the body s
metabolism, protein synthesizing, energy consumption, and the functions of other vital organs.

It uses iodine to produce T4 and T3, the thyroid hormones. Iodine is found in seafood, plants grown
on iodine rich soil, and iodized salt. The gland also gets its cue from the brain. The pituitary gland
secretes Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and the thyroid responds to it.
The thyroid is sensitive to environmental toxins. Frequent exposure to toxins like plastic compounds,
pesticides, and heavy metal can cause goiter, a condition where the neck or larynx swells due to the
enlargement of the thyroid gland.
The thyroid also plays a hand in controlling the calcium level in your blood. The C cells, a small
group of cells located in the thyroid gland, secrete the hormone called calcitonin, which controls
calcium level.
The thyroid s health is dependent on a number of vitamins and minerals. Including iodine, the thyroid
needs Vitamin A, Vitamin D, B Vitamins, selenium, and zinc. A well balanced diet is necessary to
supply the thyroid with these vitamins and minerals.
Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland is overactive. It s often caused by Graves
Disease, an autoimmune disorder that stimulates the thyroid to overproduce hormones.
Hyperthyroidism is characterized by tremors and increased heart rate, anxiety, restlessness, and weight

Lessons Learned From the Massacre at Wounded Knee Essays
Introduction
The massacre at Wounded Knee was the last action in a long and bloody war that pitted Native
American Indians against U.S Military forces. For roughly 300 years the two sides had been in
constant conflict across America in a battle for land, resources, and ultimately; freedom. This final
massacre solidified the American hold on the west and closed the final chapter on a way of life that
can never be brought back. Lakota Indians, having learned of the death of Sitting Bull started to move
towards Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in hopes of finding protection from Red Cloud. However, the
harsh South Dakota winter weather had different plans, causing Chief Big Foot to become extremely
ill. The Lakota came across cavalry forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1841, that myth was shatter when a group of sixty nine people moving towards California and
Oregon entered into Lakota lands and passed through unscathed. Once word arrived back east of the
their success, people started to jump on wagon trains and venture west for land and prosperity. During
the time period from 1841 1848 the Lakota never bothered any of the settlers passing through, even
though they were carving roads over the grasslands and killing buffalo in the area. 3 The discovery of
gold in California changed all of that. Starting in 1848, the stream of settlers became a raging river
and in 1850 nearly fifty five thousand people crossed through Lakota lands via the Overland Trail. 4
The Lakota did nothing even though increasing numbers of settlers along with their cattle were
starting to decimate the prairie grasslands as they passed through on their way westward. The final
issue that led the Lakota to push the settlers out of their lands was that of disease. The Native
Americans had never been exposed to Asian cholera, smallpox, and the measles. European settlers
brought these with them as they traveled west and infected Lakota causing many of them to
experience horrible fevers and suffering before dying without any way of being helped. 5 The Fort
Laramie Treaty of 1851 guaranteed sovereignty to the Lakota as long as they allowed settlers to pass
through on the Oregon Trail unharmed.6 At this point, the Lakota had enough and decided to take

A Sorrowful Woman By Gail Godwin
In A Sorrowful Woman, written by Gail Godwin the marriage for the unnamed woman is a torment.
The whole time, she suffers from grief and sadness. Meanwhile, the husband is a great man. He shows
her compassion, patience, forgiveness, and understanding. He adjusts his life around her episodes to

her suicide. Bipolar Disorder is the psychiatric illness characterized by both manic and depressive

when the father would see. I m sorry, she said, collapsing on the floor. (Godwin, 39). Figuring she is
overwhelmed with her life, in general, the husband suggests getting a girl to help take the pressure off.
He thinks this will make her feel less stressed.
Another indication of Bipolar Disorder is creating and believing concepts or realities that do not exist.
A little life event that is unfortunate, but hardly unheard of can suddenly feel like the end of your life.
It is difficult to reason with a person when they have these thoughts/beliefs. They believe them as

The Animal Use Of Animals In The Colosseum
I don t think that animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum for gladiator fights. Some might
believe that animals were used to make the fights more entertaining. But I believe that it was very
unkind to the animals and inhumane. This is misguided because they could have use something else to
entertain themselves like plays or something other than killing thousands of animals and humans.
Many animals went extinct in the colosseum. The animals killed a lot of people at the colosseum.
They(people in the colosseum and the townspeople) would kill a lot of animals. The definition of a
gladiator is a person who was a professional fighter, and fought in front of people in the colosseum in
the Roman Empire. Some things about the colosseum are it was started to be built in 70 A.D and
finished 10 years later. The height of the colosseum was 157ft and the perimeter was 1788 ft. There
were 4 floors and it could hold 50,000 people. The arena was 180 ft wide and 287 ft long. One other
thing about the colosseum is over 1 million animals died there. The first reason that i don t think
animals shouldn t have been used in the colosseum is because many animals went extinct in the
colosseum. The first example is elephants, lions, and tigers from Africa and Asia were hunted until
extinct by the townspeople. I m wondering why the townspeople liked to kill and make some extinct?
The second example is that sometimes whole species like European Wild horses, the Great Auk, the

The Second Great Awakening accentuated belief and impacted later change developments, for

these changes happened in light of the fact that liquor, education, ladies rights, and nullification were

Abolitionist reformers contended that slave proprietors were two timers, on the grounds that in the

The Differing Perspectives of Greek Philosophers Essay
Unlike Parmenides and Heraclitus, who took a clear stance on whether being is changing or
unchanging, Empedocles argued that things do change, but these objects are composed of materials
that do not change. The change that we see is merely a cause of the interaction and changes in position
of the four basic elements (earth, air, fire, and water). Much like Heraclitus and his views that orderly
change is brought about by the logos , Empedocles also recognized that there was a force responsible
for the change brought about. In his case, changes in the forms and positions of the basic elements was
an effect of two forces love and strife (or more commonly known as the forces of attraction and
repulsion/decomposition). The philosophy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not until recently did we find that atoms, which were assumed to be matter s basic particles, where
themselves made up of even smaller particles. So in that sense, Anaximander is correct in his
philosophy of there being a pure substance , which is the root of everything that we see.
Heraclitus and Parmenides both recognized that the materials which make up the universe could be
broken down to one basic substance, but they came to disagreement over what that basic substance
was exactly, as well as the state of being. Heraclitus believed that everything was fire (or made of
fire), and that it was the fundamental source of change in the universe because a main property of the
universe was that it was in a constant state of changing. Parmenides argued that the entire idea of
change was impossible and that the universe was essentially unmoving and unchanging. Parmenides
was a Monist, so he held the idea that the world is unitary, and that all the individuals in it are part of
an even greater unified whole. One of his arguments that motion and states of being are impossible.
Protagoras was a sophist, who believed that knowledge was relative. There are four main types of
relativism (species, descriptive, cultural, and individual), but general main idea of each is that there is
no absolute truth (comparable to agnosticism). Protagoras said that man is the measure of all things .

of East Asia. Another big key was that fur trapping and trading changed commerce as well as the
natural environment. Europeans wanted commercial connections with Asia. Christopher Columbus
and Vasco da Gama both sought for a route to Asia. Motivation above all was the desire for the spices
in Asia, although other Eastern products were also sought after. European civilizations just recovered
from the Black Death. The national monarchies were learning ways to govern more efficiently and
effectively. During this time some cities were becoming international trade centers. The Indian Ocean
commerce was very rich and diverse. But the Portuguese did not have goods of a quality that was any
effective competition. So the portuguese took to the sea lanes. Portuguese ships were more
maneuverable than other ships, and they also carried cannons. They established fortified bases at very
key locations such as Mombasa, Hormuz, Goa, Malacca, and Macao. The ... Show more content on

Sun Also Rises
The title of a novel can be one of the most powerful aspects of a book. For instance, when a reader
reads the title The Sun Also Rises, written by Ernest Hemingway, the reader is able to understand that
the title of the novel is connected directly to the message that the author is attempting to convey. The
title later brings forth much more significance towards the very end of the novel when the reader
pauses and contemplates Hemingway s motives. The title The Sun Also Rises has the ability to
stimulate deep thought within a reader, thus forcing the reader to grasp a higher level of thinking in
order to understand the true meaning of the book.
In The Sun Also Rises, the title does not hint at a possible plot that will unfurl, but more so ... Show

Though he is caught in this cycle, Jake finds ways to break away from this fantasy that he wishes to
have with Brett by travelling with close friends, drinking, and fishing.
Lady Brett Ashley carries herself with such elegance, allowing the reader to distinguish her character
from others. Hemingway designed Lady Brett Ashley to bear the utmost confidence and delicacy
when compared to other characters such as Robert Cohn or Jake Barnes who show their emotion
through their actions. Lady Brett Ashley spoke regretfully towards the end of the novel, I didn t know
whether I could make him go, and I didn t have a soul to go away and leave him. He tried to give me a
lot of money, you know (246). The alluring Brett is by far the most fascinating being that Hemingway
had thought up. She appears to be carefree, vibrant, warm, and independent. The way that Hemingway
chose to conceal Brett s constant agony intrigues the reader. Brett is an intelligent individual and is
gifted with natural charm, yet is never able to designate a single lover to spend her life with. She is
constantly looking for attention from the wrong audience. This subconscious craving for love leads
Brett to heartbreak, happening several times over the course of the story. Lady Brett Ashley s personal
story, along with Robert Cohn and Jake Barnes stories, represents the overall theme that Hemingway
conveys: unfortunate things will happen to excellent people for no reason, but it is not

Parking Area Controversy
The parking area should be spacious
The parking area is a peting place where the vehicle stops and is abandoned by its owner for a moment
or longer. For example when we are going to college then our vehicle must be parked first and then
after college we can take it back. Strange is not it, when we go to college while bringing the vehicle
into the classroom? Therefore, every place or building must have a parking space.
In this day and age, almost everyone has a vehicle. Of the number of existing vehicles prove that the
parking area should be wide especially campus environment. Why should parking area be wide? First,
so that lecturers, employees, campus guests, and students can park their vehicles in the parking lot that

Gun Control Policies Applied To Rational And Group Theory...
Short Analysis of Gun Control Policies Applied to Rational and Group Theory Models In 2012 Sandy
Hook Elementary School was victim of a terrible mass shooting that prompted several states and cities
to pass strict gun control measures. This sparked a widely debated and controversial issue for gun
friendly states in the South and West, who responded with bills that would strengthen Stand Your
Ground laws and allow weapons in most public places. The nation continues to be divided on gun
control policies, as it is very controversial and continues to be a very hot topic in society today. There
has been a rise in gun violence throughout the years, and it has been widely been debated that guns are
too easily accessible and there is a continued push for stricter gun laws that can reduce the risk of gun
violence. This paper will focus on the implementation of two models of public policy; Group Model
and Rational Model. Group Theory begins with, the proposition that interaction among groups is the
central fact of politics. Group Theory is when individuals with common interests band together
formally or informally to press their demands upon government, a shared attitude group that makes
certain claims upon other groups in society (Dye, p. 26). Additionally, this paper will apply the
rational model to gun control policies. Rational policy, as defined by Dye, is a policy that gives the
majority of society what they want. It has emphasis on achieving maximum social gain (Dye, p.30)
Group Theory Model The group theory model, as defined by Dye, reflects that there is power in
numbers and that the influence of a group can be determined by numbers, wealth, organizational
strength, access to decision makers and internal cohesion (Dye, p.27). As the federal government
moves to make strict gun control laws and policies one extremely influential group has had
overwhelming success in slowing the process of these policies. That powerful group is known as the
National Rifle Association, a group founded in 1871 that has a focus on promoting and encouraging
rifle shooting. The NRA, already a large mass of like minded people, has been influencing policy
makers for decades via sending letters and eventually developing a

Conduct Disorder Research Paper
Conduct disorder is an externalizing childhood disorder and involves a child displaying behaviors that
violate societal norms or other people s own rights. The causes of such deviant and aggressive
behavior may be linked to genetic, neurobiological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Some
propose that peer influences may also be etiological factors to such disorders. First, characteristics of
aggression are generally more heritable than other delinquent behaviors such as stealing. It is also
suggested that the MAOA gene on the X chromosome responsible for the break down of certain
neurotransmitters is less active in those with conduct disorder. However, studies show that there is
only an increased risk for conduct disorder among children when the environmental factor of being
maltreated co occurs with the decreased MAOA activity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also known that when a child develops a conduct disorder earlier on in childhood, this is
associated with a lower than average IQ in future years of school. Some psychological factors that
may contribute to the development of conduct disorders include the child s moral awareness, parenting
styles, theories based on modeling and operant conditioning, and Dodge s social cognitive perspective.
Sociocultural factors that are likely predisposing factors to conduct disorders are poor neighborhoods,
lack of parental supervision, and hyperactivity. It should be noted that ethnicity does not increase a
child s risk, but poor neighborhoods that tend to be heavily populated by minorities do. Finally, peer
influences such as being rejected by peers or interacting with like minded peers can be predictive of a

Uses And Uses Of Photosynthesis
Introduction:
Photosynthesis is a process that plants use to create glucose by utilizing sunlight, carbon dioxide, and
water. The pigments in a plant absorb light by way of photosynthesis and each pigment can absorb
different colors but will reflect green light because it does not really absorb it. Therefore, plants
always appear to have a green color. Plants have four pigments that were tested in this exercise called
carotenoids such as carotenes/xanthophyll, also pigments chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. Chlorophyll
a absorbs blue/violet light, chlorophyll b absorbs red/blue light, and carotene absorbs blue green/violet
colors. Oxygen is after product of photosynthesis along with glucose which is used later in cellular
respiration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One table was used to describe how photosynthesis would occur with regular white light and one that
was covered which measured the rate of cellular respiration. The other table describes the rate of
photosynthesis and gross photosynthesis of green/white light. The table for green/white light was
measured with accuracy with a volumeter tube. By analyzing the data, it can be confirmed that green
light did not perform photosynthesis as fast as white light and white light performed photosynthesis
creating oxygen more rapidly than the tube that had no light.
Discussion:
The second hypothesis on the rate of photosynthesis (green/white light) was correct because the data
in the table above states that the rate of photosynthesis (which was measured in volumeters) was
higher in the tube that was exposed to white light. The green light produced much slower rate results
for photosynthesis because the color was not really absorbed very well. Plants use all colors of light to
use photosynthesis except for green light. This means all wavelengths of light are used to make
oxygen except for the green wavelength. One source of error in this experiment was the results for
photosynthesis with light. The foil kept

Summary Of Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
America for immigrants is a land where everybody can become somebody. In Two Kinds, from an
excerpt the novel, The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, Jing mei s mother believed that her daughter
could become anyone that she wanted. Jing mei only wanted to become herself. Jing mei s mother
forced Jing mei to become a prodigy. At first Jing mei was excited to become a prodigy, however, as
time went on Jing mei started to hate trying to become a prodigy. It never stopped her mother from
trying to make Jing mei into a prodigy.Jing mei s perspective of her own cultural identity, her role as
daughter, and how she sees American life was different from her mother because they were born into
two different cultures.
Jing mei, American born, and her mother, Chinese born, came from two different cultural perspective
which causes them to have different views on cultural identity. Sujuan came to America hoping her
child will become a prodigy. When Jing mei and Sujuan were watching TV Sujuan saw Shirley
Temple, and at first mother thought I could be a Chinese Shirley Temple (Tan 22). Shirley Temple was
an American child prodigy. This indicates that Sujuan saw her daughter as a Chinese girl even though
Jing mei was born in America. This is significant because this was how her mother viewed Jing mei s
cultural identity. Sujuan s vision of her daughter being a Chinese Shirley Temple never happened
because Jing mei did not want to be anybody expect herself. As time continued Sujuan kept on trying

Pieta In The Toilet Film Analysis
Terminal affliction dramas have been a long trope in films, with such classics like Love Story, Bright
Star, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Biutiful and Sunny; either handling the subject manner in an
understated manner or wringing all the dramatic juice out of it for all of its worth.
It is definitely used as an easy in for audience sympathy, which some filmmakers have taken
advantage of to the point that there have been some horrific films like My Sister s Keeper, P.S I Love
You, Restless and of course, Me Before You. Those are examples that are exploitative, insistent and
borderline offensive.
So, when I was planning to watch Pieta in the Toilet, I was a bit nervous as to how the film would turn
out. But I had an open mind when I read that the director of the film, Daishi Matsunaga, was a
documentary filmmaker who decided to make this film his first narrative feature. His background in

performances, a well written script and indescribable cinematography that is reminiscent of the
cinematography in Linda Linda Linda (both lensed by Ikeuchi Yoshihiro).
First off, the direction. As mentioned earlier, director Daishi Matsunaga had directed documentaries
before this; one being about an actual famous artist, and it clearly shows in his latest effort. Aiming for
the tone to be realistic yet extracting beauty throughout the mundane settings like a swimming pool or
a hospital, Matsunaga strikes the perfect balance that makes the film a lot more hopeful that one

Renewable Energy Based Power Generation
Background The growing concern about the impact of CO2 and the anxiety on the effect of using
fossil fuels based power generation technology on the environment, in recent years, has made the
researchers to focusing on the renewable energy based clean power generation techniques to secure
the environment from carbon effect. Among the development of renewable energy based power
generation techniques, the solar power generation has a major role in clean power generation. The
sunlight is free of cost and everlasting energy sources, but the drawback of this method is that
generation of electricity is only possible during the sunshine. In PV system, the DC DC power
converters are used to change the output voltage from one level to another level [25 27]. Typically, the
DC DC converter is connected between the panel and the load, sequentially to extract the available
power from the panel using tracking methods. In this work, Boost converters and Super lift boost

that analogous to step up transformer the input voltage is stepped up to a level greater than the input
voltage. By the law

Broken Politics And Broken Dreams
Broken Politics Broken Dreams
What is a perfect form of government? What are politics and why do they matter? Now that you have
thought about it, you may have thought this. The perfect government is one that does not internally
fight itself over an opinion on a topic. It serves its citizens faithfully and cares for their thoughts and
opinions. Politics are supposed to influence the government to make it better and to support its
citizens. Politics helps us make a better government. Do you think America fits that description? We

Some of these systems like separation of powers, checks and balances, federalism, and pluralism, are

America s entire political system is also just as sad and dysfunctional (Nicholas). This political
dysfunction makes American politics broken and it doesn t help that the key systems in use today just
do not work. Any work that can be done in the government is stalled or impossible to accomplish from
this.
One of these systems, the American political parties, is another key system that has become broken in
its own functions. Both parties have been in America almost since the beginning of our young
Government. Both parties are always at odds with each other and never seem to agree on anything.
Both only agree on one thing though, and it s that of America s wellness. The problem now and days

SFBT holds that language and words are very important, and that helping clients talk about their lives
in more useful language can lead to positive change. One of the major differences between SFBT and
other psychotherapies is that while SFBT acknowledged that clients tend to come to therapy to talk
about their problems, the SFBT will not encourage them to talk about their problems, but rather to talk
about solutions (Rafter, Evans and Iveson, 2012).
One of the central assumptions of SFBT is that the client will choose the goals for therapy and that the
client themselves have resources which they will use in making changes (Macdonald, 2011). The
therapeutic conversation aims at restoring hope and self esteem, while reducing anxiety to a point
where people become able to think more widely and creatively about solutions. SFBT holds that high
anxiety can restrict cognition and attention to the surrounding environment and that, by reducing
anxiety, it would allow for wider thinking about possible approaches to problems, as well as
mobilizing their existing strengths and resources to address their desired goals (Rafter et al, 2012).

Cornell University did an experiment with a setup that they called a visual cliff. The visual cliff was
made of a board laid across a large sheet of heavy glass. They put a patterned sheet right up against
the glass on one side and left it lower on the other side. This was used to test the behavior of infants
and young animals. The psychological concept in this paper was to see if young children and animals
are aware of height perception. They found out that most human infants can discriminate depth as
soon as they can crawl. The experiments were done to see if infants and young animals were born with
depth perception or when they could visually predict the depth of different things. By creating the
visual cliff and setting babies and animals on it.They were able to study the behavior and see if they
prefered the shallow side or the deep side. Toward the end of the paper they were doing experiments
to see if animals reared in the dark at an early age. They wondered if this would change depth
perception of rats and kittens, but it really did not have an affect. From the work from the visual cliff
they are concluding that a seeing animal will be able to discriminate depth when they are able to move
around at a young age. The results of this experiment has shown that through our own visual cues we

nothing since morning. He had been too excited to eat, by the third paragraph. (A #1) Even though the

Louis Biraille Accomplishments
Because of Louis Braille, the blind can read and write. People never thought that it would, or could,
ever happen. Louis Braille made a HUGE difference in the lives of blind people, starting in 1824
when he developed the 6 dot cell system. Even today he is still making a difference, such as the
Braille Olympics, where blind students use their braille skills in competitions. (Perkins) Louis Braille,
although was not born blind, created a system still being used today. Louis has become a major hero,
especially to the world of the blind. Louis childhood shaped the type of person he became later on.
Louis Braille was born in Coupvray, France in 1809. Then, when he was three years old, he wanted to
be like his father. He thought, I can do what my father can do, so he took an awl, a sharp tool to poke
holes into leather with, and tried to use it. But the awl slipped and stabbed him in the eye. He then
became blind in that eye. The now blind eye got an infection and it spread to his other eye making him
completely blind. He did very well in school, but he thought that it was too easy, he wanted a
challenge and to read books, so he went to an institute for the blind. But the ... Show more content on

Less and less people today are using the braille system. Moving on to audio books and voice
recognition. In 2009, only ten percent of blind Americans can read braille. But those who do, are more
likely to obtain higher levels of education and employment. There is also an asteroid named Braille, in
honor of Louis Braille s accomplishments. The asteroid was discovered in 1992 orbiting the sun. Did
you know that braille isn t a language? It is used in all countries, such as for Spanish, they have a
special arrangement of dots that indicate a letter with an accent. There are also arrangements for
punctuation, such as commas, periods, exclamation marks, question marks, and so on. (Perkins) In
conclusion, Louis has made a major impact in our

Failure Definition Essay
Success is something that is earned, not given. It s setting a goal for yourself and not letting failure try
and stop you. Failure is a hard lesson to learn, but it teaches us not to give up and to keep trying.
Failure is part of the journey to success. Downs happen so the ups can follow. Failure just makes us
work harder for what we want. The most rewarding thing is overcoming the obstacles and reaching
full potential. Bella Throne was like any other kid her age, excited to start school. Though, when she
started 1st grade she couldn t read or write as well as the other kids. This was because she had a
condition called Dyslexia. Her brain would mix up letters like B and D , and M and W . When Bella
realized this, she wanted to do anything

Stephen Greenblatt s Bless Me Ultima
What does a good story consist of? An astonishing beginning perhaps, or maybe it is the once
unthinkable characters on the page, coming to life. As writers, we write of what we know. We write
the things that we have dreamed of, we write the personal experiences, we write about the true
definition of our home. In the book Bless Me Ultima, how does the infusion of a community s culture
and magical realism impact the nuanced meaning of the story being told? Ultimately, when one reads
a story, the reader wants to feel a connection to what is being told. What better way to connect to the
people than through culture? According to a scholarly book titled Culture, the author Stephen
Greenblatt writes ... and if an exploration of a particular culture ... Show more content on

This genre of writing, as described in an article titled What is Magical Realism, Really? reads Instead,
it tells its stories from the perspective of people who live in our world and experience a different
reality from the one we call objective. (Bruce Holland Rogers, para. 7, 1 2) Due to the relation with
real events that are occurring or have occurred in the past, this type of writing is considered to be a
serious genre. Also stated in the same article, the intertwining of magical realism and culture are
brought to light as the reader reads, It s possible to read magical realism as fantasy, just as it s possible
to dismiss people who believe in witches as primitives or fools. But the literature at its best invites the
reader to compassionately experience the world as many of our fellow human beings see it. (Bruce
Holland Rogers, Para. 8, 1 2) Relating back to Rudolfo Anaya s novel, Antonio was born into a culture
where curandero s and bruja s were believed to be true. To many individuals, both curandero s and
bruja s are seen as myths, and are not taken as seriously as they are seen to be in the novel. Because of
this, Bless Me Ultima is considered a book of magical

The Differences Between China And Western Europe
Imagine living in America and it not being well America. There would be different ways of
agriculture. Different languages. Different religious beliefs. Having a different way of living in
society, economically and politically. Everything would be different if China would have went about
and conquered Western Europe during the 14 1500 s.
There are many things in history that can mark the milestone differences between China and Western
Europe. No one really knows when Chinese culture really began, however Chinese civilization began
near the Yellow River (Huang He) becoming North China, and Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) indicating
South China. The first Dynasty, the Xia (Hsia) Dynasty began in about 2070 or 2205 BCE. Historians
have found proof of the wheel first being used in China during this time showing urban culture did
exist. The Shang Dynasty followed introducing the first Chinese Government. A lot of the basic
Chinese culture was introduced during the Zhou (Chou) Dynasty such as the Mandate of Heaven.
China contains a lot of history throughout the years. There were battles between the states, many new
emperors and leaders, as well as new technologies. All of which brought three great Chinese
philosophies; Daoism, Confucianism, and Legalism. It wasn t until about 581 CE that China was
reunifies under the leader, Sui Wendi. Wendi linked North and South China together by the Grand
Canal. It was during the Song Dynasty, in 960 CE, that China promoted better tools. The

The Advantages Of Money And Credit Cards
Money remains to be one of the most important needs in life. It helps society survive by buying things
that are needed to meet the basic human needs such as: food, clothes, etc. Sometimes, people earn a
lot of money and learn to save it and others waste money they do not have, making poor financial
decisions. What is the best way out? The best way out is having cash. Cash has a lot of advantages
over credit cards. Choosing a payment method is sometimes difficult particularly for buyers who
cannot control their spending. What is the best way out? paying and obtaining cash has more
advantages over holding a handful of credit cards.
To begin with, cash is generally accepted at any business, so you ll rarely run into the problems of
being forced to use a credit card. Unlike credit cards that are more unreliable unless you re shopping
in a online store. Nonetheless one of the utmost issues of using a credit card is that many stores do not
provide the technology to pay a transaction with a card. In the event that this occurs one will have to
obtain an ATM machine in order to take out cash. Not only is this time consuming but it can also result
in the machine being broken which is a huge inconvenience. For example, a card can end up being
declined in a case of an emergency where money is needed or all of your money and personal
information can also be hacked and stolen in seconds. Now you will need to go through the vigorous
process of reporting your card being stolen to the

Similarities Between China And America
The United States of America and China have a rough relationship, but it is clear to anyone that they
are the two biggest superpowers in the world. These two countries have the highest GDP (gross
domestic product) out of any other country, and they are both very influential over other countries,
making them the two largest powers in the world. Being two major powerhouses, the two countries
have many similarities, and after taking a closer look at the geography, people, and history of the two
countries, it becomes evident that there are many differences as well. The geography of the United
States varies in many ways. Being the third largest country in the world, at 3,717,727 square miles, the
U.S. has lots of space for different types of land. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
China has a population more than four times the size of the U.S., and is the most populated country in
the world with a staggering 1,403,500,365 people. That is almost one seventh of the entire population
of the world. China has had to implement laws that make it so families get taxed more on every child
that they have after their first, to try and get their population down. The population may be much
higher than the U.S., however, the median house income is much lower at just over $10,000. About
half of the population works in manufacturing, and the other half works in the service industry. The
majority of people are some Chinese, although there are many ethnic groups that would all be
considered Chinese, the most common being Han. The next most common race is Mongol, followed
by Korean, Russian, and Uzbek. Unlike the United States, there are two official languages in China,
Mandarin Chinese and Standard Mandarin. Mandarin Chinese is mostly spoken in the north and
southwest parts of the country and Standard Mandarin is mainly spoken everywhere else. The two
most followed religions in China are Buddhism and Taoism. There is also a very large amount of
unaffiliated people in China. China is one of the last remaining communist countries, which plays a
big role as to the reason that China has a poor relationship with the United States. China also has a
legislative, executive, and judicial branch, however they have one

  • 3. The Contradictions Of Women During The Victorian Era The Victorian Era took place during 1837 1901 and is known as Queen Victoria s time period. She was the first English monarch to see her name given to a time period while living. It was a time of rapid advances in scientific, technological and medical knowledge, and even population growth. Although Victorian England was based around the ideals of proper etiquette and maintaining high society , the treatment of women during the Victorian Era highlights the contradictions of this time. Families in the Victorian Society were known to be rather large consisting of 6 children if they were wealthy but even larger if they were poor. Women during the 1870 s were known to have on average six children, but women towards the 1910 s were more likely to have three on average. Victorian houses differed if you were poor or wealthy. Wealthy families were known to have large extravagant homes with several bedrooms, large living rooms, parlors and dining rooms separate from the kitchens. Poor families on the other hand were crowded into one room that sometimes had to hold families of about twelve children plus the parents. These stereotypes almost always have a negative connotation and although there is sometimes truth behind a stereotype, they are almost always based on constructions. The stereotypes in the media are visual therefore they allow the viewer to engage with it and take in its meaning. In countless films and television shows, blondes are represented as being unintelligent. This dumb blonde stereotype is the idea that blonde haired people are less intelligent than those of darker hair. Although there is no scientific proof that blondes are less smart than those of other hair colors it still seems to be one of the most popular stereotypes portrayed in the media. Sturken and Cartwright also use Laura Mulvey s idea of the male gaze as an example. Mulvey proposed that the conventions of popular narrative cinema are structured by a patriarchal unconscious, positioning woman represented in films as objects as a male gaze (76). The male gaze is closely related to the stereotype of the dumb blonde. The character of the dumb blonde is always represented as highly sexual and attractive and is, therefore, the misogynistic male viewer. The blonde woman has put in films as the weak, helpless, stupid character. This is a result of the male gaze because women are seen as inferior to men in all aspects and are there solely for the males entertainment. Since this stereotype is so prominent in the media it has circulated into everyday society. Student Phonological Awareness In order to develop a student s phonological awareness I would use the following skills and activities to focus on: Sentence segmentation, syllable segmentation, followed by tither onset rime blending as well as segmentation and finally working on phoneme segmentations themselves. The reason I focused on segmentation it that it teaches the student how to break apart words, as well as differentiate between syllables and phonemes. The first activity we would work on would be sentence segmentation where I casually work with the student on breaking down a sentence into words. This could be done by slowly reading a sentence, or having other students reading, and have students either clap for each word or hold their hands up and add one finger ... • 9. Glory In Oedipus At Colonus In the last of his three Theban plays, Oedipus at Colonus, Sophocles examines the power relationship and hierarchy between humans and gods, depicting and later asserting the control that gods have over the fates of humans. Through the attempts and eventual failure of Oedipus to overthrow his predestined fate to marry his mother and kill his father before the events of Oedipus at Colonus, Sophocles establishes that humans have limited, if any, control over their lives, dictated by the higher power of the gods. Thus, since life is limited, the impact and legacy of human life becomes increasingly more significant. Evident in his consistent pursuit of glory and being remembered by people even after falling from his former glory as king, Oedipus strives to establish a purpose and meaning to his life in spite of the predetermined fate that the gods forced upon him. Glory, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is defined as praise, honor, or distinction extended by common consent. The aspect of glory that Oedipus seeks is the distinction or acknowledgement of his greatness by the people as a whole, thus leaving an impactful legacy. Despite the fact that the length and fate of one s life is predetermined by a power higher than oneself, the ultimate purpose of human life is to leave behind a lasting impression on the world. Heraclitus and Parmenides both recognized that the materials which make up the universe could be broken down to one basic substance, but they came to disagreement over what that basic substance was exactly, as well as the state of being. Heraclitus believed that everything was fire (or made of fire), and that it was the fundamental source of change in the universe because a main property of the universe was that it was in a constant state of changing. Parmenides argued that the entire idea of change was impossible and that the universe was essentially unmoving and unchanging. Parmenides was a Monist, so he held the idea that the world is unitary, and that all the individuals in it are part of an even greater unified whole. One of his arguments that motion and states of being are impossible. Protagoras was a sophist, who believed that knowledge was relative. There are four main types of relativism (species, descriptive, cultural, and individual), but general main idea of each is that there is no absolute truth (comparable to agnosticism). Protagoras said that man is the measure of all things . We can interpret this as there is no absolute truth and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Effects Of Atlantic Slave Trade The Atlantic slave trade was and is enormously significant. The slave trade was only one part of the international network that shaped the world between 1450 and 1750. Not only did Europeans break into the Indian Ocean spice trade, but American silver allowed greater participation in the commerce of East Asia. Another big key was that fur trapping and trading changed commerce as well as the natural environment. Europeans wanted commercial connections with Asia. Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama both sought for a route to Asia. Motivation above all was the desire for the spices in Asia, although other Eastern products were also sought after. European civilizations just recovered from the Black Death. The national monarchies were learning ways to govern more efficiently and effectively. During this time some cities were becoming international trade centers. The Indian Ocean commerce was very rich and diverse. But the Portuguese did not have goods of a quality that was any effective competition. So the portuguese took to the sea lanes. For instance, when a reader reads the title The Sun Also Rises, written by Ernest Hemingway, the reader is able to understand that the title of the novel is connected directly to the message that the author is attempting to convey. The title later brings forth much more significance towards the very end of the novel when the reader pauses and contemplates Hemingway s motives. Hemingway designed Lady Brett Ashley to bear the utmost confidence and delicacy when compared to other characters such as Robert Cohn or Jake Barnes who show their emotion through their actions. Lady Brett Ashley spoke regretfully towards the end of the novel, I didn t know whether I could make him go, and I didn t have a soul to go away and leave him. • 27. Gun Control Policies Applied To Rational And Group Theory... Short Analysis of Gun Control Policies Applied to Rational and Group Theory Models In 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School was victim of a terrible mass shooting that prompted several states and cities to pass strict gun control measures. This sparked a widely debated and controversial issue for gun friendly states in the South and West, who responded with bills that would strengthen Stand Your Ground laws and allow weapons in most public places. The nation continues to be divided on gun control policies, as it is very controversial and continues to be a very hot topic in society today. There has been a rise in gun violence throughout the years, and it has been widely been debated that guns are too easily accessible and there is a continued push for stricter gun laws that can reduce the risk of gun violence. This paper will focus on the implementation of two models of public policy; Group Model and Rational Model. Group Theory begins with, the proposition that interaction among groups is the central fact of politics. Group Theory is when individuals with common interests band together formally or informally to press their demands upon government, a shared attitude group that makes certain claims upon other groups in society (Dye, p. 26). Additionally, this paper will apply the rational model to gun control policies. Rational policy, as defined by Dye, is a policy that gives the majority of society what they want. It has emphasis on achieving maximum social gain (Dye, p.30) Group Theory Model The group theory model, as defined by Dye, reflects that there is power in numbers and that the influence of a group can be determined by numbers, wealth, organizational strength, access to decision makers and internal cohesion (Dye, p.27). As the federal government moves to make strict gun control laws and policies one extremely influential group has had overwhelming success in slowing the process of these policies. That powerful group is known as the National Rifle Association, a group founded in 1871 that has a focus on promoting and encouraging rifle shooting. The NRA, already a large mass of like minded people, has been influencing policy makers for decades via sending letters and eventually developing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The causes of such deviant and aggressive behavior may be linked to genetic, neurobiological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. Some propose that peer influences may also be etiological factors to such disorders. First, characteristics of aggression are generally more heritable than other delinquent behaviors such as stealing. It is also suggested that the MAOA gene on the X chromosome responsible for the break down of certain neurotransmitters is less active in those with conduct disorder. However, studies show that there is only an increased risk for conduct disorder among children when the environmental factor of being maltreated co occurs with the decreased MAOA activity. ... • 30. Uses And Uses Of Photosynthesis Introduction: Photosynthesis is a process that plants use to create glucose by utilizing sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. The pigments in a plant absorb light by way of photosynthesis and each pigment can absorb different colors but will reflect green light because it does not really absorb it. Therefore, plants always appear to have a green color. Plants have four pigments that were tested in this exercise called carotenoids such as carotenes/xanthophyll, also pigments chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. Chlorophyll a absorbs blue/violet light, chlorophyll b absorbs red/blue light, and carotene absorbs blue green/violet colors. Oxygen is after product of photosynthesis along with glucose which is used later in cellular respiration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One table was used to describe how photosynthesis would occur with regular white light and one that was covered which measured the rate of cellular respiration. The other table describes the rate of photosynthesis and gross photosynthesis of green/white light. The table for green/white light was measured with accuracy with a volumeter tube. By analyzing the data, it can be confirmed that green light did not perform photosynthesis as fast as white light and white light performed photosynthesis creating oxygen more rapidly than the tube that had no light. Discussion: The second hypothesis on the rate of photosynthesis (green/white light) was correct because the data in the table above states that the rate of photosynthesis (which was measured in volumeters) was higher in the tube that was exposed to white light. The green light produced much slower rate results for photosynthesis because the color was not really absorbed very well. Plants use all colors of light to use photosynthesis except for green light. This means all wavelengths of light are used to make oxygen except for the green wavelength. One source of error in this experiment was the results for photosynthesis with light. The foil kept ...
