A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes
In the poem Dream Deferred (1951) by Langston Hughes, he proposes some of the positive and
undesirable effects of putting a dream on hold, through powerful imagery. It seems he himself does
not exactly understand what happens when a dream is deferred , or he has not yet experienced it.
Through a series of questions and rhymes, he gives ideas on what an aspiration becomes when it is
forgotten or put aside to take care of other things. Each line is introduced with a question except for
the fifth line, which still begins with a maybe , showing the doubt the speaker has about this dream
that is left to the side. Every line comes with a certain amount of confusion and uncertainty. He is
uncertain of what this dream has become, what it will be, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just like the second line in the poem, you eventually give up on this dream you have after it sits idly,
serving no purpose; it just wears away. The next line reads Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and
sugar over like a syrupy sweet? This time he is questioning if it eventually begins to deteriorate and
stir up a lot of issues, or perhaps it was the wrong dream and it haunts the reader. The second sentence
negates this prediction, describing it as a dream that needed to be put on hold for a specific reason, or
that other significant matters had to be taken care of before they proceeded with this aspiration; it
needed to be delayed in order for it to turn into something great, or sweet as Hughes portrays it.
Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. was the only line in the poem that did not include a question
mark, but it was still ambiguously suggested. The author proposes that the dream could become a
burden, weighing you down. The more you push the dream away, the more demanding and vexing it
becomes. This heavy load could also be viewed as a drive to follow the dream, instead of letting it
fade away. The weight pushes you to persevere and stick to this

The Pros And Dangers Of Recognition Advertising
The world is intergraded many different techniques to better market their product such as radio
frequency identification devices and facial recognition software. The ability to track via radio waves
with a small microchip that s placed on an item with the capability of being scanned with a particular
device is a radio frequency identification device or RFID (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Researchers believe
that facial recognition is just a simple measurement of point across that face that will compile into a
set pattern for an individual (Hecht, 2014). In my opinion, facial recognition advertising would pose
more of an invasion of privacy than the RFID. Facial recognition can happen in many forms such as
security cameras which can be in stores, in home personal systems, phones, and government cameras
are just a few. As far as an invasion of privacy for facial recognition is not unreasonable in its entirety
however in the use of marketing in a store with cameras and using it for add should be noted before
someone shopping (Hudson, 2013). There is individual that are willing going to buy the new iPhone X
when it comes out who has the facial recognition as its primary selling point; therefore, those
individuals are accepting of the idea of their face being part of the program. Furthermore, those
cameras that are used in marketing for stores and billboards taking pictures and facial recognition
without customer s knowledge and having the potential of their system to get hacked

A Great Mistake Of The Athenians
This was a great mistake of the Athenians, as Thucydides claims, most of them (Athenians) being
ignorant of its (Sicily) size and of the number of its inhabitants, Hellenic and barbarian, and of the fact
that they were undertaking a war not much inferior to that against the Peloponnesians . So, Athens
undervalued Sicily and overvalued their (the Athenians) greatness. Nicias tried to warn citizens about
the wealth and strength of the Sicilian states enemies they would have to challenge, and insisted on a
great preparation and investments in the expedition to make it possible. He also added: Indeed, even if
we leave Athens with a force not only equal to that of the enemy except in the number of heavy
infantry in the field, but even at all points superior to him, we shall still find it difficult to conquer
Sicily or save ourselves .
The preparation for the expedition began and the departure to Sicily took place. It worth saying that all
Athenians were taking part in preparation, the government and citizens did their best. Indeed this
armament that first sailed out was by far the most costly and splendid Hellenic force that had ever
been sent out by a single city up to that time .
Alcibiades, one of the generals of the expedition, had a lot of enemies in Athens, due to his luxury life
and desire to get as much fame as possible. So, before the departure of expedition his enemies tried to
do everything to implicate him in scandals and expose. All in all Alcibiades was

The Criticism Of Ludwig Van Beethoven

Ludwig van Beethoven, was born December 17, 1770, archbishopric of Cologne Germany kicked the

transitional period between the Classical and Romantic times.
Generally viewed as the best author who at any point lived, Ludwig van Beethoven overwhelming

Established in the Classical customs of Joseph Haydn and Mozart, his craft connects with including
the new soul of humanism and beginning patriotism communicated in progress of Goethe and
Friedrich von Schiller, his senior peers in the realm of writing; the stringently re imagined moral
objectives of Kant; and the standards of the French Revolution, with its energetic worry for the
flexibility and respect of the person. He uncovered more strikingly than any of his ancestors the
energy of music to pass on a reasoning of existence without the guide of a talked content; and in sure

Disparities of the Death Penalty
disparity of application (gender, race)
1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic. There is no
disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that discrimination against
minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row that are African American,
Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for a reason, however I believe the
reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different goals dependent on their racial
background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death row are black, and 44 % are white.
There are more inmates who are white on death row, which makes it hard to determine that disparity
was applied based on race or gender when individuals are faced with a death penalty sentence. There
are far less women on death row. There are not many women on death row because the death penalty
is not often applied to their cases. However, this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes
that were committed and typically women commit less violent crimes than men.
2. Furman v. Georgia
Furman v. Georgia proved that the way the death penalty was administered was unconstitutional.
William Furman was apprehended while he was found robbing a sleeping individual s home. During
the trial Furman claimed he had tripped and his weapon had accidentally discharged and struck the
victim. However, the statement he had given the police was

Approximation Rule In Court Cases
When a custodial decision cannot be reached by a couple and is turned to a court to determine, a task
is given to the court to ensure that the best decision is made in the interest of the child. A court reaches
this by various methods of standard tests and evaluations that produce unpredictable results (Dolan
Hynan, 2014). There has been a recent suggestion by the American Law Institute called the
Approximation Rule . Under this proposal, recently divorced parents share of time within their
custody should be allocated to approximate the proportion of time each parent spends with the child
on a detailed list of childcare tasks prior to their divorce (Dolan Hynan, 2014). This assessment is
geared towards awarding custody rights to the parent

Reflection About Technology
How do you relate to technology? You might have been asked this question before, but even if you
haven t this is a question that everyone could answer; there just might be different ways to answer. For
me, when people ask how I relate to technology my mind cannot help but go to my iPhone and all the
apps that I scroll through all the time, and yes, even when I am in the restroom. (we have all done this
before). My favorite part about my cell phone and the applications that I am offered is the question
itself; they allow me to relate a technology that everyone has some knowledge about to something that
I am passionate about, the gospel. There are many apps on my cell phone that I enjoy, but only a few
can keep me so entertained that I can hardly put my phone down to go to sleep at night. Usually, when
I am bored, I quickly scroll through my phone to see an application that is going to satisfy me for the
next 20 minutes of my life. Until, I get bored of that as well, but when it comes to the applications that
are teaching me about God, I become deeply Intrigued and encouraged by what I am reminded. It s
like a buffet, I start at the salad line and keep walking hoping there is something else that is better, and
when I get to the dessert boy am I the happiest girl in the world!
We have all made a phone call at one point our lives, and if you haven t, you probably know someone
who has. Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced FaceTime on June 7, 2010, in conjunction with the iPhone

Those typical responsibilities of a married couple does not thrust on the individuals living together in
this kind of relationships. The basic foundation of live in relationship itself is individual freedom.
Unfortunately, no specific law has been recognized to deal with a live in relationship in India. No
legislation has been formulated to define the rights and obligations of the parties in the relationships
and the status of children born to such couples when it is proved as bigamy of male in the relationship.
A live in relationship is not recognized by Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 or any other current statute.
Therefore this particular law does not discussion about either parties or the children born to them. The
Courts have taken the view that where a man and a woman live together as husband and wife for a
long term, the law will presume that they were legally married unless proved contrary. The Protection
of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 provides for the protection, maintenance and right of
palimony to a live in partner, if she complains, but nowhere mentioned anything about children again.

Children With Special Needs A Wonderful Part Of Our World...
Children with special needs are a wonderful part of our world today. A child with special needs bring a
whole new life to those who they are around. They light up our world when we are around them and
do not see when there is trouble with different issues. After watching the two movies, Lorenzo s Oil
and The Other Sister, my eyes were opened even more about living with children who have special
needs. Lorenzo s Oil is based on a true story of Michalla and Augosto Odone and their son Lorenzo.
When Lorenzo is just five years old he is diagnosed with a disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy also
called ALD. Once he is diagnosed the Odone s do everything they can to find a cure for this terminal
disease. After talking with doctors they find out that Lorenzo only had about two years to love. With
that being said both Michalla and Augosto do everything in their power to lengthen his prognosis.
ALD is a genetic disorder that is X linked. This disease causes the body to not be able to break down
the long chain of fatty acids, because of this then the myelin sheath that is around the nerves in the
brain and the spinal cord begins to deteriorate. There are many different symptoms that one produces
such as: hyperactivity, decreased school performance, difficulty understanding verbal communication,
hard time swallowing, muscle spasms and change in muscle tone, loss of hearing, visual impairment
or blindness, and seizures. These are just some of the symptoms that ALD patients have. Despite

American Jazz Artist Miles Davis Essay
Kind of Blue. This studio album released by American jazz artist Miles Davis is heavily regarded as
the quintessential and definitive jazz album. Many critics regard it as jazz s greatest record and one of
the best albums of all time. Along with redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on music has
been unprecedented. The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been one of the
biggest influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock, funk, fusion,
indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazz is extremely unique in music, and Davis s album changed that
culture and changed the culture of several different genres and music itself. To truly understand the
massive legacy and influence created by Kind of Blue, one would have go back to the beginning of
jazz all the way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique genre of music in the world.
Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill creates music that is simply
incomparable. Originating from the African American communities of New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz
was a fresh new creation heavily predominated by African Americans. Early forms featured brass
bands playing a ragtime and swing style of music, with improvisation, and unique and syncopated
rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means offbeat rhythm. While not popular at first, this
early form of jazz started becoming well liked and by the 1920 s many artists were

Nietzsche The Genealogy Of Morals
In this essay I will debate and discuss the various aims which Nietzsche may have had when writing
The Genealogy of Morals . Since its publication philosophers have put forward a wide range of
viewpoints debating the question of his overall aim. With interpretations of his aims ranging from
such lofted goals as curing the human condition, to bringing about a new objective and universal
morality, to other more measured goals such as a re evaluation of moral values. These viewpoints are
necessarily highly influenced by broader beliefs about what type of philosopher Nietzsche was. Was
he naturalist or a postmodernist? A moral realist or anti realist? Thus, I will be taking a divergent route

Observation Report On Coaching Observation
Intro
For the coaching observation project I observed the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Urban
Meyer. I watched him on TV when Ohio State played Penn State. The reason I selected Urban Meyer
to do my coaching observation is because he is the coach I decided to model my coaching philosophy
after. The reason I chose this game specifically is because this is a very important game and I want to
see how he handles his team in high pressure situations.
Review
1. Coaching style used or observed
A coaching style is the specific way a coach leads his team. The coaching style Urban Meyer used was
a laissez faire type coach. A laissez faire type coached is defined as a leader who makes as few
decisions as possible. During the weeks prior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His non verbal communication was just his facial expressions that his players and assistant coaches
can see. His team was losing for most of the game and you could tell he was not happy. Penn State
returned the opening kick off and he looked disappointed, but he kind of kept his composure. Later in
the 2nd quarter during another kick return that was returned pretty far by Penn State his anger was a
little more visible as he was yelling and appeared very angry. Later once Ohio State started to play
better you could see his attitude change and he got happier. I m not sure if his negative attitude made
his team play worse, it is just something to think about whenever I am a head coach.
3. Reinforcement techniques
Reinforcement techniques are used to increase or decrease a behavior. During a game, especially on
the stage that Urban Meyer is coaching, it is important for his players to play well. Some techniques
that Urban Meyer used to reinforce his players during the game I observed were negative discipline.
His special teams were struggling a lot, especially his kickoff team. They were playing so bad that he
decided to remove multiple players from it and add starters from other positions onto the kick off team
to try and have better success. This shows that if you want to play, you have to perform.
4. Motivation techniques
Motivation techniques are how a coach

Furthermore, I agree with Dr. Paul Staniland of the University of Chicago in determining that ISIS

notable Islamic political organizations and insurgent networks of the past few to include the

theoretical framework will be highlighted including insurgent cohesion and development, alliance
formation in civil wars and the factors determining levels of insurgent violence. Second, a

composition and behavior. Similarities and differences in organizational structure and methodology
between the case studies will be correlated. Finally, using existing theory as well as relevant data from
the case studies will lead to determining whether ISIS is truly unique or merely a facsimile of other

corner. The genre of science fiction has made that fear even more prominent in today s society with a
plethora of movies showing a dystopian world. Popular movies like The Hunger Games bring viewers
into a world where two people every year must fight to death to show their superiority and to earn
their freedom much like roman times in the coliseum. Hunger Games isn t the first movie to play on
this fear though. I Am Legend, Minority Report, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers are movies
specifically created to bring fear and discontentment to the human mind by feeding the fear of the

The Role Of The Perfect Utopian Society In George Orwell s...
What makes a good life for individuals and what constitutes the perfect utopian society? These are
important questions for all humans living in the modern world and the answers to these questions
radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell s Animal Farm, we
see the animals come out from under Mr Jones power, they try to make the perfect world but fail
because someone is always going to have the strength or willpower to go one step further than you
can. In The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, we see Christof try to create his idea of the perfect
world so that at least one person, Truman Burbank, might be able to live a good life. Both texts
suggest that the good life is determined by the degree of freedom that they have to choose their own
destiny and this then affects what the perfect society looks like because the perfect society would
involve ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live out what they consider to be a good life.
The problem with trying to create a perfect society is that there will always be someone who uses their
power to control others for the bad, not the good.
The capacity for an individual to live a good life is dependent upon the degree of freedom that they
have to choose their own destiny. In The Truman Show, Weir suggests that without freedom one
cannot be truly happy. Through Truman s life Christof stopped him from experiencing different events
throughout his life, he messed with Truman s emotions. In

Apocalypse Now Vs Heart Of Darkness Essay
Apocalypse Now, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, details army captain Ben Willard s adventure
though the jungle to kill deranged Colonel Walter Kurtz. Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad, is set
in the early 1890 s and presents Marlow s curiosity for Kurtz; he travels through the Congo in search
for him and witnesses the perils of imperialism and the effects it has on both the colonizers and the
colonized. Although Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness are wholly different genres of timeless
entertainment, they both present the dominant theme of man s innate savagery and the ability to
descent into madness when subject to the right conditions. Both works heavily emphasize the

Marlow and Willard both journey up the river, traveling farther away from civilization and sanity and
getting closer to the complete madness exemplified by Kurtz. Heart of Darkness presents the river as a
journey back to the earliest beginnings of the world, when vegetation rioted on the earth and the big
trees were kings , a subtle indication that the hot climate and vegetation of the jungle is reminiscent of
Europe s past. Marlow, currently narrating the story on the Thames River, parallels the Congo River
with the Thames, Africa with Europe and ultimately, Europeans with Africans, uncovering the truth
that a long time ago, the European colonizers used to be in the same position as the Natives another
example of the hypocrisy that the westerners possessed when dealing with the Natives. Apocalypse
Now, on the other hand, presents the river in a very different light, making it seem more of a place of
sanctuary rather than a irreversible path to madness. When Chef sees a tiger and seeks the boat for
safety, he yells Never get off the boat . The Nung acts as a safe zone for those on board, and shields
the travelers from the savage hands of the jungle. Unlike Willard and the crew, Kurtz got off the boat

Bodybuilder Gladiator
You see, typically I don t dream about 9 foot tall men assorted armor and swords and glowing gold
eyes marching around a mountain chanting my name. They were horrible, tall and muscular but
somehow looking crippled as an old man, and man I don t think I should have been able to smell
anything in a dream but dang was I wrong. They smelled like someone had forced a couple of dogs to
roll in their own waste then take a bath in the sewer, if I was gonna pass out it would be from the
stench, not from fear. I woke with a start and gasped for air that didn t smell like well... you get the
point. I looked out my window, it was overcast and felt pretty chilly, which was weird for January in
California. My mom walked into the room and smiled at me Look who s alive, my creation

the world. I did as she said and threw on an old athletic T shirt with ninjas on it and some jeans and sat
on the edge of my bed to put my socks and shoes on. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed something
through my window, It looked like a miniature pelican, it flew straight through my open window and
landed inside of my shoe. What the I opened it reluctantly as if waiting for any bloodthirsty giants to
pop out. I opened it and there were to words on the paper in red ink almost as if someone had wrote
the message in red paint with a wide paintbrush. The message read HELP ME . I immediately thought
to text Robyn about it. Look at this weird letter I got. I texted her. I waited a minute or two. No reply. I
decided she was probably already at school waiting for me. I turned to the doorway and swore I saw a

Nirvana, By Kurt Cobain
If the words alternative and rock are uttered together, chances are, Nirvana immediately comes to
mind. Nirvana, lead by Kurt Cobain, intend to push messages that oppose the mainstream through
their music and image. Even though, at the height of their popularity they could certainly be
considered rock stars, in an interview with MTV in 1993 Kurt famously says we re not rock stars , he
truly doesn t wish to be categorized as one. Nirvana made a conscious effort to be seen in a completely
different stream than the commercially successful bands of their time. By examining different Nirvana
texts like music, lyrics and band photos, it is clear that Nirvana wanted to be decoded as different and
oppositional.
Beginning with the purest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with album title, Kurt originally wanted to name the album I Hate Myself I Want to Die
(28). This title would certainly have worked in order to scare off the bands commercial fans. But I
think this title could have been decoded on multiple levels depending on how well you know the band,
same with the final title In Utero. I hate myself I want to die denotes that this album would have been
depressing, personal and a reflection of Cobain s inner psyche. But as a true fan you might be able to
decode it as ironic as Cobain constantly claims his music is not personal. Which is why this title could
have worked to warn off the commercial fans. The potential title I hate myself I want to die is
definitely not a typical title for an album. It feels personal, almost too personal and also very
depressing, certainly not upbeat. Which definitely conveys how alternative Nirvana is, because music
listeners only interested in popular music probably would not want to listen to an album about
someone wanting to die.
The title and album artwork of In Utero denotes a see through woman with blonde hair with wings. In
Utero defined is, in the womb . The title an artwork, could possibly be connote as the mother of his
child, Courtney Love. The title being In Utero, than could symbolize that the music on this album has
been impacted by the birth of his daughter. I hate myself I want to die would have been a strong title

Industrialization, Economics, and the Environment Essay
Industrialization, Economics, and the Environment Human technological advancements make it
possible to sustain larger and larger population by exploiting more and more natural resources. The
three revolutions in human history, agricultural, industrial and green have all been answers to
overpopulation. Naturally, industrialization leads to environmental degradation. The concern with
Industrialization is that it is not a long term solution to human sustainability, since it operates under
the premise of the tech fix, or the idea that humans will be able to invent new technologies to ensure
their own survival. These solutions, while economically advantageous, do not consider the long term
impacts of this continual and escalating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the period of the last two centuries, the curve of human population growth has departed from the
normal S shape because of man s ability to alter his environment. With fixed environmental limits the
population curve will follow an S shape like curve B in our figure. (Dolan 58) If humans have not
taken it upon themselves to manipulate nature, the population would not have risen to where it is now.
However, if one subscribes to the Gaia Hypothesis, which views earth a self regulating organism with
a certain threshold for abuse, there is the possibility that we could exhaust the technological
possibilities for further raising the population ceiling (Dolan 59). The result would be what we have
been trying to prevent all along, and mass starvation would ensue, thus fulfilling the Malthusian
Scenario. However, at the present time, the only solution to overpopulation, industrialization is only a
tech fix. Overpopulation itself is the result of a lack of long term vision, so it is not surprising that the
technologies adopted to alleviate the consequences will follow the pattern of short term solution, of
repairing damage that has been done instead of enforcing preventative measures. The short term
economic growth of the economy, due to food, industrial output, and population grow exponentially
until the diminishing resource base forces a

Olympia, Heroes And Athletes By Judith Barringer
Idara Rodriguez. Review of J.M Barringer, The Temple of Zeus at Olympia, Heroes, and Athletes ,
2005, pp. 211 241
I chose to review Judith Barringer s article on the topic of why the sculpture works inside the Temple
of Zeus should be looked at as a whole collective ensemble. This is because they would provide
insight into how these works were seen and how they were closely related to Olympia and all the
activity that occurred there. Judith Barringer also discusses how these sculptures literally acted as
positive role models for the Olympic athletes that participated in the Olympic Games at the time.
Throughout this essay we will take a look at how exactly she goes about proving her points and her
reasoning behind them.
The author of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The athletes would then leave their own offerings in front of the statue of Zeus and the hero shrine to
Pelops, the Pelopion. The author goes on to discuss how many of the athletes
would peer down through colonnades at the Temple of Zeus where they would also catch glimpses of
the towering, immense, and an almighty seated Zeus overlaid with gold and ivory in the temples cella.
Barringer questions what these athletes would have seen when looking at these massive works. She
raises questions regarding what the myths depicted and conveyed back to them and what meaning and
purpose did the patrons of the temple intend. The article surges us back to the present day and
discusses how the architectural remains of the Temple of Zeus may leave it quite difficult for the
imagination to conjure up the likeness of the once massive architectural spectacle. Though the
sculptures remain in good condition they still received intense scrutiny from early scholars. Barringer
rears a good point on how these scholars would treat these sculptures and pediments as not only
separate entities from each other but all together separate from the activities that took place at
Olympia. The author states that her point for writing this article is to show that these sculptures should
be read as a whole meaningful ensemble coinciding within and with Olympia and the famous Olympic
Games by looking not only at the Temple of Zeus itself or

My Mistress Eyes Figurative Language Essay
Wiry hair, bad breath, pale face these don t seem like the words you would use towards someone you
love. Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress Eyes. At
first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates how
someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic
preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love
between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative
language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood.
In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but
makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other. One
of the main forms of figurative language in this poem is shown in metaphors. These are important to
the poem to make the comparison of her features to other objects. If hairs be wires, black wires grow
on her head. (Ln 4) Her hair is thick, rough and messy as if they were actually wires, not nice and
smooth like you would want hair to be.
This poem is also filled with similes. My ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mood is brought to the surface by the choice of words used within the text. In the poem he uses
words like love, rose, goddess, and heaven that support the loving mood. He then uses words like
reeks and dun to contradict the mood he sets up beforehand. Another example of contradicting the
mood would be, I love to hear her speak, yet well I know/ That music hath a far more pleasing sound.
(Lns 9 10) He likes to hear her voice yet he knows that music is more pleasing. In his writing he
makes us imagine a realistic woman not a model or a dream woman as some would say. This says a lot
about the speaker by bringing to light the real meaning of his love for

There Are Three Lines To Live In The Labyrinth
Notwithstanding, in the same text (we could, of course, quote many others), there is also evidence of
an acquaintance with the pre socratic unity of opposites (later adapted by Nicolau of Cusa to the idea
of God), by means of which a straight line is potentially no different from a circular line (plus, a
formulation that is also reminiscent of Zeno s Paradoxes of Motion):
There are three lines too many in your labyrinth, he said at last. I know of a Greek labyrinth that is but
one straight line. So many philosophers have been lost upon that line that a mere detective might be
pardoned if he became lost as well. When you hunt me down in another avatar of our lives, Scharlach,
I suggest that you fake (or commit) one crime at A, a second crime at B, eight kilometers from A, then
a third crime at C, four kilometers from A and B and halfway between them. Then wait for me at D,
two kilometers from A and C, once again halfway between them. Kill me at D, as you are about to kill
me at Triste le Roy.

In another context, specifically concerned with reading as a process, american literary critic and
theorist Robert Scholes, adds the metaphor of a two dimensional circle composed of centrifugal and
centripetal postures (Scholes 1989: 8) to the one dimensional straight line made of backwards and
forwards. But he does not discard the latter, although he thinks that the circle covers a lot more
territory. (8) Instead, he argues that reading is dialectical , meaning

A Brief Look at Climate Change
The global climate system is complex and its response to future anthropogenic greenhouse gases and
to climate change adaptation, is often poorly understood. Climate change is an area where modeling in
the framework of complex adaptive systems can improve our knowledge both with respect to the
internal structure and adaptive mechanisms of climate and our capacity for designing efficient climate
adaptation policies. Modeling of these systems includes a dynamic system consisting of transition
equations describing the evolution of state variables characterizing the natural system, such as CO2
concentrations in the upper and lower atmosphere and in the oceans, and state variables characterizing
the economic systems, such as physical capital and knowledge. The complex adaptive character of the
system implies that the dynamic system will be nonlinear and nonconvex, will allow for nonlinear
feedbacks and multiple basins of attraction, will evolve both in the temporal and spatial dimension,
and will be influenced by forward looking optimizing economic agents (Xepapadeas, 2010).
Moreover, any rational policy choice must consider the uncertainty about the magnitude and timing of
climate change s impact on economic productivity (Cai et al., 2013).
The majority of the literature, including the recent U.S. Government Interagency Working Group on
the Social Cost of Carbon (IWG, 2013) does not model the stochastic nature of the climate and
economic systems. Recent work, such as that of Cai

Fossing Case Study Essay
A behavioral interview was conducted, and the client was asked about her history of the flossing (P.
50). This was to determine if flossing was a behavior that needed to be changed. During the first
reinforcer preference assessment the client was asked questions of what activities she enjoyed doing
(p.276). She answered hiking, watching T.V shows, watching movies, hanging out with friends and
that she loves going out to eat. She was then asked to rank them in order of what she preferred: 1.
Hiking, 2. Watching T.V shows, 3. Watching movies, 4. Hanging out with friends and 5. Going out to

be good reinforcers for the client (See Appendix A). An indirect functional assessment was conducted
to determine if there is any possible events in the environment that may determine what causes the
participant to floss her teeth (p.509).The client s husband was asked questions such as, have you seen
the participant floss her teeth during the week of October 2 9, 2016? The answer was no. None of the
questions helped find out information that correlated with the problem of flossing. Another behavioral
interview was conducted when the client felt that the current method of reinforcement is not working.
The client feels like she will do the activities that she enjoys (for example going to out to eat)
regardless of meeting that week s criterion or not. The client wants to make earning a reinforcer

Western Themes In The Film Mad Max 2
The 1970 s and 1980 s was considered to be a golden period in Australian cinema, with many classic
Australian films, such as Crocodile Dundee, being released during this era. One such film that helped
develop Australia s reputation in the film industry on an international level, was the Mad Max trilogy,
specifically Mad Max 2, released in 1981.
Despite being a post apocalyptic film, Mad Max 2 reflects themes of an old Western movie, with Max,
a former sheriff, mirroring a Western hero, with his car in place of a horse, driving throughout a barren
wasteland (Ratto, 2014, pp.78). After rescuing a man having been attacked by a group of outlaws,
knows as The Marauders, Max returns the injured man to his settlement and goes on to help the entire
settlement escape from The Marauders. This resemblance to an old Western film, gave Mad Max 2 the
ability to break into the international film market, which was at the time (and still today) dominated by
American films, especially old Westerns. The success of the first and second Mad Max films also
resulted in a boom in production of Australian films, resulting in more making it on an international
market. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A common theme in many post apocalyptic films, is that of technology being the cause of the event
that formed the post apocalyptic world, or else have, the apocalyptic catastrophe often destroy the
technology and infrastructures of the modern world (Harris, 2016, pp.14). Whilst most technology in
Mad Max 2 is non existence, the emphasis on vehicles differs Mad Max 2 from other films in the post
apocalyptic genre, instead showing the power of technology as those with cars and the skills to drive
them, give them an advantage over those without, along with the necessities of survival. The themes
of Road Warrior are fundamentally based on...technological might overcoming ugly savagery. (Harris,

  • 2. A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes In the poem Dream Deferred (1951) by Langston Hughes, he proposes some of the positive and undesirable effects of putting a dream on hold, through powerful imagery. It seems he himself does not exactly understand what happens when a dream is deferred , or he has not yet experienced it. Through a series of questions and rhymes, he gives ideas on what an aspiration becomes when it is forgotten or put aside to take care of other things. Each line is introduced with a question except for the fifth line, which still begins with a maybe , showing the doubt the speaker has about this dream that is left to the side. Every line comes with a certain amount of confusion and uncertainty. He is uncertain of what this dream has become, what it will be, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just like the second line in the poem, you eventually give up on this dream you have after it sits idly, serving no purpose; it just wears away. The next line reads Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over like a syrupy sweet? This time he is questioning if it eventually begins to deteriorate and stir up a lot of issues, or perhaps it was the wrong dream and it haunts the reader. The second sentence negates this prediction, describing it as a dream that needed to be put on hold for a specific reason, or that other significant matters had to be taken care of before they proceeded with this aspiration; it needed to be delayed in order for it to turn into something great, or sweet as Hughes portrays it. Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. was the only line in the poem that did not include a question mark, but it was still ambiguously suggested. The author proposes that the dream could become a burden, weighing you down. The more you push the dream away, the more demanding and vexing it becomes. This heavy load could also be viewed as a drive to follow the dream, instead of letting it fade away. The weight pushes you to persevere and stick to this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Pros And Dangers Of Recognition Advertising The world is intergraded many different techniques to better market their product such as radio frequency identification devices and facial recognition software. The ability to track via radio waves with a small microchip that s placed on an item with the capability of being scanned with a particular device is a radio frequency identification device or RFID (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Researchers believe that facial recognition is just a simple measurement of point across that face that will compile into a set pattern for an individual (Hecht, 2014). In my opinion, facial recognition advertising would pose more of an invasion of privacy than the RFID. Facial recognition can happen in many forms such as security cameras which can be in stores, in home personal systems, phones, and government cameras are just a few. As far as an invasion of privacy for facial recognition is not unreasonable in its entirety however in the use of marketing in a store with cameras and using it for add should be noted before someone shopping (Hudson, 2013). There is individual that are willing going to buy the new iPhone X when it comes out who has the facial recognition as its primary selling point; therefore, those individuals are accepting of the idea of their face being part of the program. Furthermore, those cameras that are used in marketing for stores and billboards taking pictures and facial recognition without customer s knowledge and having the potential of their system to get hacked ... • 4. A Great Mistake Of The Athenians This was a great mistake of the Athenians, as Thucydides claims, most of them (Athenians) being ignorant of its (Sicily) size and of the number of its inhabitants, Hellenic and barbarian, and of the fact that they were undertaking a war not much inferior to that against the Peloponnesians . So, Athens undervalued Sicily and overvalued their (the Athenians) greatness. Nicias tried to warn citizens about the wealth and strength of the Sicilian states enemies they would have to challenge, and insisted on a great preparation and investments in the expedition to make it possible. He also added: Indeed, even if we leave Athens with a force not only equal to that of the enemy except in the number of heavy infantry in the field, but even at all points superior to him, we shall still find it difficult to conquer Sicily or save ourselves . The preparation for the expedition began and the departure to Sicily took place. It worth saying that all Athenians were taking part in preparation, the government and citizens did their best. Indeed this armament that first sailed out was by far the most costly and splendid Hellenic force that had ever been sent out by a single city up to that time . Alcibiades, one of the generals of the expedition, had a lot of enemies in Athens, due to his luxury life and desire to get as much fame as possible. So, before the departure of expedition his enemies tried to do everything to implicate him in scandals and expose. All in all Alcibiades was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Disparities of the Death Penalty disparity of application (gender, race) 1. Disparity of application of the death penalty is a researched and heavily discussed topic. There is no disparity applied to the death penalty due to race. Many individuals believe that discrimination against minorities directly contributes to the amount of offenders on death row that are African American, Hispanic, or part of a different minority group. These trends exist for a reason, however I believe the reason is due to the fact that individuals strive to meet different goals dependent on their racial background. Currently, approximately 41 % of inmates on death row are black, and 44 % are white. There are more inmates who are white on death row, which makes it hard to determine that disparity was applied based on race or gender when individuals are faced with a death penalty sentence. There are far less women on death row. There are not many women on death row because the death penalty is not often applied to their cases. However, this is not due to their gender, it is based on the crimes that were committed and typically women commit less violent crimes than men. 2. Furman v. Georgia Furman v. Georgia proved that the way the death penalty was administered was unconstitutional. William Furman was apprehended while he was found robbing a sleeping individual s home. During the trial Furman claimed he had tripped and his weapon had accidentally discharged and struck the victim. However, the statement he had given the police was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Approximation Rule In Court Cases When a custodial decision cannot be reached by a couple and is turned to a court to determine, a task is given to the court to ensure that the best decision is made in the interest of the child. A court reaches this by various methods of standard tests and evaluations that produce unpredictable results (Dolan Hynan, 2014). There has been a recent suggestion by the American Law Institute called the Approximation Rule . Under this proposal, recently divorced parents share of time within their custody should be allocated to approximate the proportion of time each parent spends with the child on a detailed list of childcare tasks prior to their divorce (Dolan Hynan, 2014). • 8. Reflection About Technology How do you relate to technology? You might have been asked this question before, but even if you haven t this is a question that everyone could answer; there just might be different ways to answer. For me, when people ask how I relate to technology my mind cannot help but go to my iPhone and all the apps that I scroll through all the time, and yes, even when I am in the restroom. (we have all done this before). My favorite part about my cell phone and the applications that I am offered is the question itself; they allow me to relate a technology that everyone has some knowledge about to something that I am passionate about, the gospel. There are many apps on my cell phone that I enjoy, but only a few can keep me so entertained that I can hardly put my phone down to go to sleep at night. Usually, when I am bored, I quickly scroll through my phone to see an application that is going to satisfy me for the next 20 minutes of my life. Until, I get bored of that as well, but when it comes to the applications that are teaching me about God, I become deeply Intrigued and encouraged by what I am reminded. It s like a buffet, I start at the salad line and keep walking hoping there is something else that is better, and when I get to the dessert boy am I the happiest girl in the world! • 10. Children With Special Needs A Wonderful Part Of Our World... Children with special needs are a wonderful part of our world today. A child with special needs bring a whole new life to those who they are around. They light up our world when we are around them and do not see when there is trouble with different issues. After watching the two movies, Lorenzo s Oil and The Other Sister, my eyes were opened even more about living with children who have special needs. Lorenzo s Oil is based on a true story of Michalla and Augosto Odone and their son Lorenzo. When Lorenzo is just five years old he is diagnosed with a disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy also called ALD. Once he is diagnosed the Odone s do everything they can to find a cure for this terminal disease. After talking with doctors they find out that Lorenzo only had about two years to love. With that being said both Michalla and Augosto do everything in their power to lengthen his prognosis. ALD is a genetic disorder that is X linked. This disease causes the body to not be able to break down the long chain of fatty acids, because of this then the myelin sheath that is around the nerves in the brain and the spinal cord begins to deteriorate. There are many different symptoms that one produces such as: hyperactivity, decreased school performance, difficulty understanding verbal communication, hard time swallowing, muscle spasms and change in muscle tone, loss of hearing, visual impairment or blindness, and seizures. • 11. American Jazz Artist Miles Davis Essay Kind of Blue. This studio album released by American jazz artist Miles Davis is heavily regarded as the quintessential and definitive jazz album. Many critics regard it as jazz s greatest record and one of the best albums of all time. Along with redefining and revolutionizing jazz, its influence on music has been unprecedented. The music theory, style, and organization of Kind of Blue has been one of the biggest influences on several genres since its creation; including but not limited to rock, funk, fusion, indie, and hip hop. The culture of jazz is extremely unique in music, and Davis s album changed that culture and changed the culture of several different genres and music itself. To truly understand the massive legacy and influence created by Kind of Blue, one would have go back to the beginning of jazz all the way to modern music. Jazz might just be the most unique genre of music in the world. Pairing true artistry and creativity with immense technicality and skill creates music that is simply incomparable. Originating from the African American communities of New Orleans in the 1910 s, jazz was a fresh new creation heavily predominated by African Americans. Early forms featured brass bands playing a ragtime and swing style of music, with improvisation, and unique and syncopated rhythm and blues. Within music, syncopated means offbeat rhythm. While not popular at first, this early form of jazz started becoming well liked and by the 1920 s many artists were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Nietzsche The Genealogy Of Morals In this essay I will debate and discuss the various aims which Nietzsche may have had when writing The Genealogy of Morals . Since its publication philosophers have put forward a wide range of viewpoints debating the question of his overall aim. With interpretations of his aims ranging from such lofted goals as curing the human condition, to bringing about a new objective and universal morality, to other more measured goals such as a re evaluation of moral values. These viewpoints are necessarily highly influenced by broader beliefs about what type of philosopher Nietzsche was. Was he naturalist or a postmodernist? A moral realist or anti realist? • 14. Observation Report On Coaching Observation Intro For the coaching observation project I observed the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Urban Meyer. I watched him on TV when Ohio State played Penn State. The reason I selected Urban Meyer to do my coaching observation is because he is the coach I decided to model my coaching philosophy after. The reason I chose this game specifically is because this is a very important game and I want to see how he handles his team in high pressure situations. Review 1. Coaching style used or observed A coaching style is the specific way a coach leads his team. The coaching style Urban Meyer used was a laissez faire type coach. His non verbal communication was just his facial expressions that his players and assistant coaches can see. His team was losing for most of the game and you could tell he was not happy. Penn State returned the opening kick off and he looked disappointed, but he kind of kept his composure. Later in the 2nd quarter during another kick return that was returned pretty far by Penn State his anger was a little more visible as he was yelling and appeared very angry. Later once Ohio State started to play better you could see his attitude change and he got happier. I m not sure if his negative attitude made his team play worse, it is just something to think about whenever I am a head coach. 3. Reinforcement techniques Reinforcement techniques are used to increase or decrease a behavior. During a game, especially on the stage that Urban Meyer is coaching, it is important for his players to play well. Some techniques that Urban Meyer used to reinforce his players during the game I observed were negative discipline. His special teams were struggling a lot, especially his kickoff team. They were playing so bad that he decided to remove multiple players from it and add starters from other positions onto the kick off team to try and have better success. This shows that if you want to play, you have to perform. 4. Motivation techniques Motivation techniques are how a coach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Role Of The Perfect Utopian Society In George Orwell s... What makes a good life for individuals and what constitutes the perfect utopian society? These are important questions for all humans living in the modern world and the answers to these questions radically affect the way that we view how power should be used. In George Orwell s Animal Farm, we see the animals come out from under Mr Jones power, they try to make the perfect world but fail because someone is always going to have the strength or willpower to go one step further than you can. In The Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, we see Christof try to create his idea of the perfect world so that at least one person, Truman Burbank, might be able to live a good life. Both texts suggest that the good life is determined by the degree of freedom that they have to choose their own destiny and this then affects what the perfect society looks like because the perfect society would involve ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live out what they consider to be a good life. The problem with trying to create a perfect society is that there will always be someone who uses their power to control others for the bad, not the good. The capacity for an individual to live a good life is dependent upon the degree of freedom that they have to choose their own destiny. In The Truman Show, Weir suggests that without freedom one cannot be truly happy. Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad, is set in the early 1890 s and presents Marlow s curiosity for Kurtz; he travels through the Congo in search for him and witnesses the perils of imperialism and the effects it has on both the colonizers and the colonized. Marlow and Willard both journey up the river, traveling farther away from civilization and sanity and getting closer to the complete madness exemplified by Kurtz. Heart of Darkness presents the river as a journey back to the earliest beginnings of the world, when vegetation rioted on the earth and the big trees were kings , a subtle indication that the hot climate and vegetation of the jungle is reminiscent of Europe s past. Marlow, currently narrating the story on the Thames River, parallels the Congo River with the Thames, Africa with Europe and ultimately, Europeans with Africans, uncovering the truth that a long time ago, the European colonizers used to be in the same position as the Natives another example of the hypocrisy that the westerners possessed when dealing with the Natives. I hate myself I want to die denotes that this album would have been depressing, personal and a reflection of Cobain s inner psyche. The potential title I hate myself I want to die is definitely not a typical title for an album. It feels personal, almost too personal and also very depressing, certainly not upbeat. The three revolutions in human history, agricultural, industrial and green have all been answers to overpopulation. Naturally, industrialization leads to environmental degradation. The concern with Industrialization is that it is not a long term solution to human sustainability, since it operates under the premise of the tech fix, or the idea that humans will be able to invent new technologies to ensure their own survival. However, if one subscribes to the Gaia Hypothesis, which views earth a self regulating organism with a certain threshold for abuse, there is the possibility that we could exhaust the technological possibilities for further raising the population ceiling (Dolan 59). The result would be what we have been trying to prevent all along, and mass starvation would ensue, thus fulfilling the Malthusian Scenario. However, at the present time, the only solution to overpopulation, industrialization is only a tech fix. Overpopulation itself is the result of a lack of long term vision, so it is not surprising that the technologies adopted to alleviate the consequences will follow the pattern of short term solution, of repairing damage that has been done instead of enforcing preventative measures. This is because they would provide insight into how these works were seen and how they were closely related to Olympia and all the activity that occurred there. The athletes would then leave their own offerings in front of the statue of Zeus and the hero shrine to Pelops, the Pelopion. The author goes on to discuss how many of the athletes would peer down through colonnades at the Temple of Zeus where they would also catch glimpses of the towering, immense, and an almighty seated Zeus overlaid with gold and ivory in the temples cella. Barringer questions what these athletes would have seen when looking at these massive works. She raises questions regarding what the myths depicted and conveyed back to them and what meaning and purpose did the patrons of the temple intend. The article surges us back to the present day and discusses how the architectural remains of the Temple of Zeus may leave it quite difficult for the imagination to conjure up the likeness of the once massive architectural spectacle. Though the sculptures remain in good condition they still received intense scrutiny from early scholars. Barringer rears a good point on how these scholars would treat these sculptures and pediments as not only separate entities from each other but all together separate from the activities that took place at Olympia. The author states that her point for writing this article is to show that these sculptures should be read as a whole meaningful ensemble coinciding within and with Olympia and the famous Olympic Games by looking not only at the Temple of Zeus itself or ... Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress Eyes. At first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates how someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood. In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other. One of the main forms of figurative language in this poem is shown in metaphors. These are important to the poem to make the comparison of her features to other objects. Climate change is an area where modeling in the framework of complex adaptive systems can improve our knowledge both with respect to the internal structure and adaptive mechanisms of climate and our capacity for designing efficient climate adaptation policies. Modeling of these systems includes a dynamic system consisting of transition equations describing the evolution of state variables characterizing the natural system, such as CO2 concentrations in the upper and lower atmosphere and in the oceans, and state variables characterizing the economic systems, such as physical capital and knowledge. The complex adaptive character of the system implies that the dynamic system will be nonlinear and nonconvex, will allow for nonlinear feedbacks and multiple basins of attraction, will evolve both in the temporal and spatial dimension, and will be influenced by forward looking optimizing economic agents (Xepapadeas, 2010). Moreover, any rational policy choice must consider the uncertainty about the magnitude and timing of climate change s impact on economic productivity (Cai et al., 2013). Western Themes In The Film Mad Max 2 The 1970 s and 1980 s was considered to be a golden period in Australian cinema, with many classic Australian films, such as Crocodile Dundee, being released during this era. One such film that helped develop Australia s reputation in the film industry on an international level, was the Mad Max trilogy, specifically Mad Max 2, released in 1981. Despite being a post apocalyptic film, Mad Max 2 reflects themes of an old Western movie, with Max, a former sheriff, mirroring a Western hero, with his car in place of a horse, driving throughout a barren wasteland (Ratto, 2014, pp.78). After rescuing a man having been attacked by a group of outlaws, knows as The Marauders, Max returns the injured man to his settlement and goes on to help the entire settlement escape from The Marauders.
