Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep Character Analysis
Diminishing Difference Between Humans and Androids Throughout Do Androids Dream of
Electric Sheep, author Philip K. Dick explored the effect empathy had on the characters. In the
novel, bounty hunters Voigt Kampff Test measured empathy, and if a person was found to fail
the test, that person was considered to be an android (Dick 44). As a result of this method, the
humans had ironically become the less empathetic, which resulted in androids becoming closer
to human by default. Dick explored the declining empathy of humans by looking at what they
have resorted to in order to identify androids. The Voigt Kampff Test was a vital tool to the
bounty hunters tasked with finding and retiring illegal androids (57); however, the test itself
was calculating and cold, only able to deliver a yes or no, fail or pass, 0 or 1 (46). The Voigt
Kampff Test, humans only anchor point in a world where anyone could be an android, was just as
devoid of empathy as humans see androids (40).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is such a good bounty hunter and concluded it s his lack of empathy. Paradoxically the best way
humans could defend themselves from and hunt androids was to be lacking in empathy towards
them, which only made them more and more similar to

The Mexican American Border And Its Effects On The United...
I am writing this letter to respectively bring your attention to the Mexican American border, its
damaging effect on the United States economy, and potential solutions to this specific situation
which has become known as the Border Crisis. As you may already know, the border runs from
Tijuana, Baja California to Tamaulipas and Texas. According to the International Boundary and
Water Commission, the border s length is 1,954 miles and is the most frequently crossed
international border, mainly by undocumented immigrants from Mexicoand Central America. As an
attempt to contain this influx of illegal migration, former President George W. Bush signed the
Secure Fence Act of 2006 stating, This bill will help protect American people. This bill will make
our borders more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform. While Mr. Bush may
have had the United Statessafety at heart, one must question if the border fence is actually helping
the economy or hurting it? There are several problems that have risen following the creation of the
border fence; immigrants coming from The Northern Triangle have actually increased, Texas has
become the deadliest entry state, undocumented and unaccompanied children are costing taxpayers
even more, and simply maintaining the border fence is a very high cost. To start with, when people
hear the word immigration , many automatically refer to Mexican immigrants. However, few tend
to realize that the majority of immigrants are coming

Summary Of Perry Patetic s Odyssey
Getting the family together for the holidays may be a little harder when they are 1000 miles
apart. Perry Patetic in his passage, claims that it is too easy to move away from the friends and
family of our past, this creates a loss in friendship and or relationships. Patetic supports his
argument by first explaining why people are able to move so far away. He continues by
comparing the differences between a close relationship to a long distance relationship. The authors
purpose is to point out the struggle of a long distance relationship in order to change one s opinion
on the topic. The author displays a sincere tone for the newer generation. Having a strong
relationship with someone is only truly possible if they are close together because

The Complex Layers Within the Little Mermaid
Fairy tales convey political, moral, and social lessons through characters, relationships and setting.
They originate from an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation often in a varied
form, drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as the Bible and mythology. As societies
gained access to the printed word, fairy tales became less changeable and tended to focus on
characters who were transitioning from childhood to adulthood (Abler). Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
became renowned for their collection of fairy tales which have been disseminated worldwide and
translated into a hundred and sixty different languages during the Romantic period of the nineteenth
century (Abler). They often changed tales from their original versions to get rid of sexual
undertones and horrific violence against innocent characters, injecting their interpretation of
Christian morality into the subtext. Laced with various complex layers, the original tale of The
Little Mermaidis imbued with poignant cultural meaning. Sirenetta, the young mermaid
protagonist, dwells in a kingdom under the sea with her older sisters, but desires to become human
after she falls in lovewith a prince whom she saves from drowning (Brothers Grimm4). She
implores the Witch of the Deep for help to get human legs but sacrifices her voice and accepts that
every step she takes will be excruciatingly painful (5). Sirenetta and the prince fall in love, but
ultimately the prince is ordered to marry another woman

What I Have Learned About Privacy And Security
I have learned there is extremely more to the HIM department than I realized. This HIM
department located at Sykes is the main location for all of the Northern regions HIM needs. I was
able to learn that the HIM department helps answer frequently asked questions and concerns
regarding the HIM processes in addition to indicating opportunities where they can facilitate
effective outcomes dealing with patient satisfaction. In the future AMG wants to be paperless, also
for the health information functions to be efficient, making more use of their EMR automation.
The HIM department is also divided into smaller sections: loose report transport, scanning, release
of information, record management, and duplicate accounts. Over the past several weeks I have
had the opportunity to observe and actually do several of the tasks of the ROI department. In the
classroom, we discussed HIPAA regulations when it comes to ROI functions, however; actually
seeing it in practice reinforces what I was taught in class about privacy and security. ROI is a very
complex process; a person needs to be mindful when releasing patient s personal health information
and that all requests submitted are HIPAA compliant. There are two authorization forms one that is
for the release of standard health information and a special authorization for some patients with
some information dealing with mental health, HIV test results, treatment for alcohol, or drug abuse.

The Invisible Man And The Giving Tree By Shell Silverstein
As important and necessary literature is for many things, such as introducing and connecting broad
thoughts, ideas, and topics to people, not all literature is suited for the masses. Most literature
contains hard to grasp concepts with underlying themes and ideas. Introduce formalism, the
formalist literary criticism acts as a way to simplify and convey the complex topics that are not
explained thoroughly in most literature. The Invisible Manby H.G. Wells, and The Giving Tree by
Shell Silverstein are two works of literature that convey important ideas that literature does,
without the complex layers most literature has. The Formalist or New literary criticism is
reflected in both of these books through their style, tone, and structure. The style in both novels is
simple first person and third person point of view. Though it may seem trivial, the point of view
helps the author effectively convey the message of their story without hidden messages, plots, and
themes to decipher. In The Invisible Man, Wells had to imagine how one might feel with no
physical appearance, full of shame for his experiments gone awry, and longing to regain what he
had and who he once was and put those thoughts and feelings into words. Shell Silverstein uses
dialogue between a boy and a tree to teach, and convey ideas of unconditional love, and selflessness
in The Giving Tree. Distinguishing between kinds of writing not according to their different forms
but according to their unequal

Hollywood s Asians Essay
Hollywood s Asians
Asian Americans have been part of America for almost as long as its existence. From the Chinese
laborers building the transcontinental railway, inner cities laundry services, to Asian farmers who
have helped build the agriculture communities around the country, Asian American have
contributed to the industries and economy of America. Despite their loyalty and contributions to
this country, Asian Americans have been discriminated and considered as unassimilable by many
Americans. Racism toward Asian is further extended by Hollywood s use of yellow face, where
Caucasian actors applied make up and prosthetics to pose as Asians, stereotypes such yellow peril
and orientalism. (Garcia, 13) From the beginning of motion ... Show more content on

As the popularity of Fu Manchu increased, Hollywood was quick to take advantage and portray this
character as a threat to white supremacy.
According to Eugene Franklin Wong s The Early Years: Asians in the American Films Prior to
World War II, Rohmer, the creator of Fu Manchu stated I MADE MY MANE ON FU MANCHU
BECAUSE I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT the Chinese... I know something about Chinatown. But
that is a different matter. (Wong, 57) This presented a problem as the whole perception of Dr. Fu
Manchu was based on generalization and ignorance. Unfortunately, ignorance of Asian culture
became the root of Asian characters in motion pictures. The ambiguity and general facelessness of
Asian characters and communities lead to the creation of a low budget film called Chan is Missing
(1981) by Wayne Wang. As two amateur detective cab drivers search the San Francisco s
Chinatown for the mysterious Chan, but never do find him or even reach any conclusion about
why he is missing. (Marchetti, 53)

On the other hand, Hollywood s depictions of different ethnic Asian are not always negative or
evoke racism. As the news Japan s military growth and reaches the shores of America, characters
such as Fu Manchu and General Yen which portrayed dangerous Chinese warlords disappear from
the screen. The Japanese Imperialist troops became the replace for the stereotypical evil Asian
characters. (Marchetti, 41) Scene of Japanese troops

Religious Significance The religious site that I have chosen is one of the most well known
mosques in the greater Toronto area, the Islamic Foundation of Toronto. This specific mosque
currently stands out as a religious monument because it is one of the first main mosques in Toronto

established in 1992, it has since been one of the leading Islamic centers that has provided many

Muslims and Non Muslims. The Islamic Foundation of Toronto acts like a hub for the Muslim
community, and doesn t hesitate to connect the non Muslim community with it. As stated before, it
encourages things like multi faith, which is an active program there, as well as it is known as an

Gaap Case 15-1

Team 1
Argue for current GAAP treatment for the issuance and subsequent reporting of options and
warrants.
Stock options and warrants give the holder the right to purchase a share of stock at a
predetermined price within a given time period. According to Richard G Schroeder in the textbook
Financial Accounting Theory and Analysis: Text and Cases, under current GAAP the cash inflow
received from these securities needs to be reported as equity. The value reported in subsequent
periods is historical and does not change in response to changes in the market value of these
securities.
SFAC No. 6 defines equity as the residual interest in the assets of an entity that remains after
deducting its liabilities. If options and warrants do not meet the definition of liabilities, then they
must meet the definition of equity. A liability is an obligation that embodies a future sacrifice of
assets. The company owes no assets to option or warrant holders. There is no present obligation to
surrender assets or perform services. If stock options and warrants do not meet the definition of ...

Although the holders of options and warrants are not owners until they exercise their rights, they
are not creditors either. Moreover, the price paid to acquire stock options and/or stock warrants is
a function of the market price of shares of stock. The value recorded is related to and derived from
equity in the company.
Team 2
Argue for reporting options and warrants as liabilities measured at fair value.
The reason stock options and warrants are acquired and held is because of their potential to be
exercised so that the holder can acquire shares of stock at a price more favorable than buying the
stock in the market place. Even though the value of these securities derived from the market price
of the shares, the holders are not owners and cannot act as owners

Summary Of Steven King Why We Crave Horror Movies

I think that we re all mentally ill; those of us outside the asylums only hide it a little better and

argues that everyone is a potential lyncher. I enjoy an occasional horror film that is well made.
Most horror films are not that scary. Horror films tend to be low quality and sometimes they are
garbage. I have seen my share of lousy horror films. I do watch horror films to be entertained and
I enjoy the suspense. Although I appreciate some horror films I disagree with Steven King s bold
statements, and I agree with some of his other statements. In Steven Kings thesis: if we share a

Narrative Intervention Examples
Children encounter narratives in virtually every facet of their lives, as narrative discourse is a way
to communicate observations, feelings, ideals, and attitudes within cultural settings. The ability to
produce cohesive and coherent narratives has been linked to competence in socialization, working
memory, and academics, and children are proficient at understanding and creating stories as early as
first grade. Children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), however, often have
difficulty producing and comprehending narratives, which extend into their adolescent and adult
years. Narrativeintervention may be implemented to address academic performance and social
competency.
Narratives are the retelling of past experiences and are a means for communicating perceptions,
feelings, values, and attitudes within cultural contexts (). The ability to produce coherent and
cohesive narratives has been linked to competence in socialization, working memory, and

Impact Of Technology On The Banking Industry
Changing Technologies The change and advancement in technology are a significant factor in the
banking business. Technology has led to tremendous improvements in this industry. Since the
commencement of this millennium, people have shown great love for their mobile phones
(Ozaki 1992). It necessitated the invention of mobile applications (APPs). From the introduction
of the mobile banking, APP people rarely go to the banks. All their transactions get done simply
by the stroke of a finger. Businesses face a challenge of adapting to changes in the technology
sector. Mobile banking either through actual investing or any other means is on the rise.
According to the most recent Federal Reserve study; most of us haven t set foot in a banking hall
in ages. It is a lost battle to banks that opt to use traditional methods to conduct their banking
transactions (Gup 2003). By December of last year, close to half of all smartphone users in the
United States had transacted some or all of their banking on their phones and iPhones. In the
United Kingdom alone, rates of mobile banking transactions doubled over the course of a single
year (Scn Education 2001). A banking business that invests in this type of technology gets assured
of increasing their customer base. Continued Globalization of markets involving 1st and 2nd world

The Problem Of Team Projects
Team projects have always been one of my biggest fears; there are so many things to reason
before beginning to becoming a team. From the moment when the professor says there s a group
project one s mind can go swirling into a bundle of thoughts, doubts, and vaguely thought out
wonders. Furthermore, there is the thought of I wonder , I wonder if I m going to get the smart
people, I wonder if that guy is friendly, or I hope there isn t high expectations for the tasks at
hand. Being introverted is one thing, knowing that there is there is no way to pass the class
without participating is another. Now, not only do i have a group project, but I also have to
overcome myself and do what s necessary to succeed. On forward after getting my group
members I was really confident in them from the start, they all looked the part and seemed if
they had sense of humor. Meeting them on the day we were assigned to our groups was indeed
mentally stimulating because we got to work right away. The only question came to mind is who
will be the leader of this group? In retrospect, our team of six was chosen to be group five and we
were assigned with the awesome category of leadership. Furthermore, after some very silly
hilarious brainstorming we came up with our team name Alpha team five. One might ask what
leadership is. Leadership is such a challenging term to describe, as it can be determined in so many
ways. According to the book of organizational behavior a leader is described as

Economics is the study of scarcity and choice
Key concept opportunity cost: for a person to get more of one thing... he/she must forego getting
something else
e.g. to get food must pay (give up) money
In economics rational behavior is assumed, e.g. people want more goods for less money

The two main categories of economics study: macroeconomics and microeconomics
Macroeconomics examines the economy as a whole and its main sectors: government sector,
household sector, business sector
An aggregate is a collection of specific economic units treated as one unit, e.g. the millions of
consumers lumped together and called consumers
Macroeconomics seeks to obtain an overview or outline of the economy, i.e. examines the beach,
not the grains of sand
Microeconomics examines details of specific economic units... such as one household (typically a

Collaboration of Buying Suppliers in South African...
While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns,
the automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude
Weiss, 2011). The OEMs in South Africa are BMW (3 series), Ford (Ranger pickup from 2011),
GM (Corsa pickup, Isuzu pickup), Mercedez Benz (C Class), Nissan/Renault (various sedans and
pickups), Toyota (Corolla 4 door and Hilux pickup), Volkswagen (new and old Polo), (Pitot, 2010).
Government persuade and pressurize automotive assemblers to increase local content but the reality
of the situation is that there local manufacturers aren t as competitive as they would like to be or
they aren t as competitive as those suppliers and automotive assemblers internationally. The reason
being is supply chain issues cause inefficiencies that impact a local automotive assembler to gain
competitiveness, (Naude Weiss, 2011).
The most common drivers of demand distortion are unforeseen sales promotion which have a ripple
effect on the supply chain, lack of customer confidence and cancellations of orders, (Lysons, 2003).
To remain competitive, the automotive industry needs to decrease costs and enhance customer
service levels. Some complexities they may face is rising fuel prices and high manpower costs
which negatively influences the cost of living in today s society. The reason South Africais not
competitive is due to the low percentage of local content in a final product), (Pitot, 2010). If

The Life Of Ivan Denisovich By Alexander Solzhenitsyn
World War 2 not only had terrible battles where many people were killed, but had many other
acts of brutalization. People who were deemed to be outsiders were brutalized for political
beliefs, race, religion and many other reasons. Most of these reasons seem illogical and a lot of
people wonder how someone can be brutalized because they look different or think differently.
The most famous example where outsiders were brutalized is the Holocaust in Germany, but there
are many other examples. Outsiders were even brutalized before in the United States. There are
many different accounts of brutalization throughout World War 2 and after World War 2. One Day
in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Alexander Solzhenitsyn is one piece of literature that portrays
what life in the Gulag system was life through the eyes of Ivan Denisovich. The film Stalingrad
shows the brutalization of the Russian soldiers by the German soldiers. The play In the Matter of J.
Robert Oppenheimerby Heiner Kipphardt shows the brutalization of people with communist
views or pasts. All three of these works portray how groups that are brutalized are viewed as
outsiders. These works are important because they document what happened to these outsider
and how they were brutalized. In the novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, the main
character describes how brutal the Gulag system is for the zeks by describing one day where he

Internet Censorship in China Essay
In the United States, every child, teenager and adult uses Wikipedia, YouTube and Facebook,
among numerous other sites, regularly. The internet is open and uncensored for the most part, other
than parental controls. In China, most, if not all of those types of sites are or have been blocked.
As in, you could not go to them, unless you found some way around the web filters and firewalls
the Chinese government runs in their country. While China defends their practice of internet
censorship, based on protecting the people, heavy internet censorshipis a block to free speech and

The aim is to tighten political control and get Internet users to censor themselves by bringing them
face to face with their censors or their agents. (Anonymous) Reporters without Boarders further
talked of why these regulations present a new block for free speech. What Netizen will dare to
criticize the regime after meeting the person who could put them behind bars for one wrong word?
(Anonymous) Reporters Without Borders is further stating that someone who might talk about
something the government might find questionable will not do it at all if that person is met by
someone who could put them in prison. On the other hand, the US does not actively regulate the
internet, relying on the public to regulate content on the internet, with little government
intervention. The internet in the US is relatively open, whereas in China, information on the
internet is suppressed based on what the Chinese government deems appropriate or inappropriate.
Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State, has stated, Countries that heavily censor the Net are creating
a new Information Curtain to rival the old Iron Curtain of the Cold War era. (Anderson) Clinton

not have. There are many differences between the President of the United States and the Prime
Minister of Canada. These differences include regulations, term of office, powers, and cultures.
Throughout this paper you will learn that just being the leader of their country is about as similar
as these two people get.
Here in the United States, we have had many presidents throughout the years. Starting with George
Washington, and finishing up with George Bush. Our presidentis the chief executive, with the
legislative and judicial branches to keep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A president has a limit of time in office, and can serve up to two terms, four years at a time. I
believe like this is a good and bad thing. While it gives our president time to make good decisions,
and time to actually change things in our country, if the president has bad ratings, there is nothing
we can do about it until his term is up. There is only one circumstance when a president can be
voted out of office before his term is up, and that is called impeachment. This can happen when the
president has committed acts treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors, thus giving
the power to the house of representatives to impeach him, and the senate the power to remove him
for office, given a two thirds vote to convict. This rarely happens though, and throughout history
only two presidents have ever been impeached; Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998
(http://biden.senate.gov). In Canada, the Prime Minister s terms of office are determined much
differently. The prime minister is appointed by the Governor General on behalf of the queen. The
governor general will typically pick the leader of the party that has the most seats in the house to
maintain stability in the government. Unlike the president, the prime minister does not have a fixed
term of office. Canada s constitution, The Constitution of Canada, limits each parliament member
to five years, and then a general

The Apparent Second City Syndrome Feeling Rings
In this essay I will discuss to what extent Maiken Umbach interpretation of the apparent second
city syndrome feeling rings true in Eduardo Mendoza s La Ciudad de los Prodigios through a
political, social and economic standpoint. Furthermore, I will analyse How Mendoza expresses his
own personal feelings of the relationship between Barcelonaand Madrid in the novel in regards to
Barcelona and Catalonia s desire to be independent from Spain.
The start of the novel takes place just before the first World s Fair in Barcelona in 1888. This is
on the backdrop of the start of the Spanish Industrial Revolution and Barcelona was at the epicentre
of this revolution in Spain as there was mass migration of countryside workers to the city during this
period. As a consequence this caused a huge population increase in Barcelona in a few years and
this is portrayed in La Ciudad de los Prodigios. Conforme al censo de 1887... contaba con 416.000
habitantes, y este nГєmero iba en aumento a un ritmo de 12.000 almas por aГ±o. This gives us the
impression that Mendoza is trying to display to the reader how much of an increase there has been
in the population of Barcelona since the start of the industrial revolution and how much of a strain
this has had on the city itself and how the city s metropolitan area has increased to accommodate
this huge influx of people from the countryside. This adheres to Maiken Umbach Statement that
second cities were the hub of mass population migration from the

The Business Decisions Made By Laura Lang
Then came CEO Laura Lang, rank and file inside Time Inc. are infuriated that the former CEO
Laura Lang is walking away with more than $19 million spread over four years, even though she
only served 15 months (Kelly, 2013).Not only did Lang cut 500 jobs, froze salaries but kept
executives bonuses. That led to Time Inc., employees calling for her to resign. Ethically, it was
wrong for Lang to freeze salaries for employees and give lavish bonuses to executives. Time Inc.
employees did not stand for it and sent hundreds of emails to the CEO of AOLTime Warner, Jeff
Bewkes. Providing details of the horrible business decisions made by Laura Lang who reports to
Bewkes. Requesting Jeff Bewkes, to make changes at the CEO level or the magazine would not
have any stories to print. Laura Lang was removed from office shortly after those emails went
out to Jeff Bewkes. Ethics run high in the editorial world and all across the different brands of
Time Inc. Employees are trained once a year in ethics; managers are trained twice a year in how
to fairly treat employees, and how to handle any unethically behavior. If TimeInc., cannot print
stories that have not been verified why would Time Inc., stoop so low as to keep its employees
shackled to mismanagement decisions. Lang s short tenure may be seen as a sign that hiring a
CEO with zero publishing experience to run the No. 1 U.S. publishing company was a bad idea to
start with. Others will conclude that Time Inc., with its

The Bubble Economy. The Direct Cause Of The Japanese Banking
The Bubble Economy
The direct cause of the Japanese banking crisis was the collapse of the asset price bubble during the
late 1980s to the early 1990s.
During 1980s, sustained economic growth and low inflation rate were the main characteristics of
macroeconomic environment in Japan. This condition caused the upward growth expectations of
asset prices, uncontrolled credit expansion and financial deregulation.
At the same period, the United States has a substantial increase in the current account deficit and a
sharp increase in the foreign trade deficit. In order to depreciate the U.S. dollar by intervening in
currency markets, five countries including France, West Germany, Japan, the United States and the
United Kingdom signed the Plaza ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, these financial institutions may loosen their credit standards in order to get
higher loan market share. As a consequence, their lending decisions were based more on collateral
requirements rather than cash flow analysis. In order to accelerate credit check procedures for loan
approval, many banks transferred the responsibility for loan risk evaluation from their credit
investigation bureaus to less independent monitoring bureaus reporting directly to the banks sales
divisions.
The second problem is the defects in corporate governance of Japanese banks. First, because of the
structure of bank ownership, few shareholders own the majority of the total shares, most
shareholders have modest control over the management of banks. Second, shareholders lack of
incentive so it is difficult for them to against managements decisions. Third, the internal and
external audit was very limited.
Besides, the central bank in Japan has also been criticized for its role in aggravating the bubble
economy. The Bank of Japan used expansionary fiscal and monetary policies to solve the fears of
economic depression. After five rounds monetary easing from January 30, 1986 to May 30, 1989,

How Rap Is Influenced by God Essay
Hip hop has become an important figure to mainly the African Americans turning into African
American English relating to the culture because of the singing culture/tradition. Many agree that
people do look for ways to find accustoms towards the culture or tradition. Rap is the verbal
musical element of hip hop which society mostly associates. (Stewart) Many songs relate through
some sort of expression, describing the way the hardships of people may have gone through, such
as mother or father passing, being involved in gang related crimes; murdering people, selling drugs

During the 80s and 90s rappers did involve many of the social critiques that were being faced.
Through out the lives of the emotionally damaged rappers there was usually a story to every
one of the songs produced. Usually containing a background story, sometimes in form of prayer
because the people that explain this, do not know in what other form to pray to God. Some may
say that such rappers as in Tupac who believed that God was present even in the most pro
founded depressing situations. Although rapped about many luxuries that were committed to
the wants Tupac pertained, also did explore more into police brutality, poverty and corruption
with the Government. Tupac was very concerned with the way society was being governed.
Believing that the law had turned numb towards the minorities situation. Tupac began to think
and contemplate. Tupac went through many hard dealing situations as well, thus coming back
to why rappers feel as if the voice inside is silent and have no other way to be heard of. Music has

a call for someone to hear and act. There should be a class on why people are hungry. (Tupac)

Electricity Is Generated From The Energy
HYDROFUEL CELLS
Abstract: Electricity is generated from the energy; we get, by the burning of fossil fuels, where
the fuel can be stored and used when needed according to the immediate energy requirements.
Hence it is speaking to a concentrated and stable type of energy. On the opposite side, we have
some irregular types of energy, for example, wind, wave, tidal and sunlight based. These can t be
put away and must be utilized according to accessibility; generally their energy possibilities are
lost. For the usage of these energy sources, there is a need to convert this energy into suitable
forms for storage. For this Hydrofuel Cells are one of the best way to create and store energy as
they possess many positive qualities such as renewable, environment friendly, readily available
elements for electricity generation etc. Here it is discussed about the working of Hydrofuel cells,

Why Carter Center Won The Nobel Peace Prize
Nobel Peace Prize What would you do if your entire nation is being ravaged by a disease that you
don t know how to treat? That s where The Carter Center stepped in to aid struggling families in
Africa. Led by former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, they were able to bring cures to
villages that have none. Some people may say that the Carters just want to gain media attention
but I will prove that is not the case. The purpose of this essay is to show why I believe the Carter
Center should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The first reason why The Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace prize is they assist people in
thousands of villages with diseases that don t have a cure in their country. The biggest epidemic
that the Carter Center was involved in was the Guinea worm disease. In just one years time the
Center reduced the disease by a whopping 99 percent! That number decreased from 3.5 million to
less then 11,000. Since the Center has many people to help throughout the world, they teach the
people who are at the center of the disease to cure it themselves. To do this, the Carter Center train
volunteers within the thousands of villages who are the main reason the diseases are cured.
However, this not the only reason the Carter Center should win the Nobel Peace Prize. ... Show

Deteriorating Roof
Eight Warning Signs of a Deteriorating Roof

anything else, a roof requires regular care and maintenance in order to function properly and last as
long as possible. But wear and tear is inevitable, and even the best constructed roof will wear out
eventually.
How Often To Inspect
Roof damage can be minimized through regular interior and exterior inspections to detect any
minor problems. Homeowners should complete a roof inspection at least two times a year spring
and fall. It also is a good idea to check your roof after a bad wind storm or an unusually harsh

Blistering Shingles
When moisture or gas builds up inside of a shingle, it can cause the surface to bubble outward,
known as blistering. Conditions that cause blistering can include a poorly ventilated attic, leaf or
debris buildup, or just natural roof aging. Intense sunlight exposure also can cause worsen a
blistering problem.
5. Damaged Flashing
Flashing is a layer of metal sheeting installed at an angle or joint in your roof which prevents
water from breaching the roof. The most common place to find flashing is around your chimney
or sewer vent pipe. Asphalt roof shingles require step flashing, which are individual pieces of
flashing covering each shingle and overlapping onto the shingle down slope. By using an
individual piece of flashing for each shingle or row of shingles, a water tight seal can be maintained
over time, despite normal shingle expansion and contraction from temperature swings.
6. Rotting
If your roof is rotting, the problem should be fairly obvious and must be addressed immediately. If
some shingles are rotting, the rest could follow soon. Rather than wasting time, energy and money
replacing many individual shingles, you should bite the bullet and replace them all.

This is because while zoos try to raise awareness on conservation programs by allowing visitors to
have a close interaction with animals, this however sometimes comes at the expense of the animals
welfare (Calyton, Fraser, Saunders, 2009).Research has suggested that visitors can affect animal
behaviour and stress physiology even when animals are separated by barriers (Fernandez et al.,
2009). A recent study has indicated that when exposed to visitors, the level of vigilance increased
in both Kangaroo Island kangaroos and Red kangaroos. Furthermore, Kangaroo Island kangaroos
would increase time spent in locomotion and decrease time spent on resting (Sherwen, 2015). In
addition, previous studies have shown that social factors and conditions of confinement have
proven to cause stress for tree kangaroos (Hutchins et al., 1991). As a consequence, this reduces the
chances of reproductive success, thus zoo populations are declining. A more detailed understanding
of tree kangaroo behaviour and stress triggers is needed to advance the reproductive success of this

The Victorian era, spanning from 1830 1901, was a period of dramatic change with the rapid
extension of colonialism through Africa, Asia and the West Indies making England a world power

Both vastness and ocean make the reader feel lost and fearful of the unknown activities and size

and death.
Next is The Signalman by Charles Dickens, which is about a visit from a ghost. The setting for this
story is very old, depressing, dingy and gloomy but the scenery around the signalman isn t
reflected in his personality. His box is located underground next to the railway line. Straight
away the setting seems to be weird as it s descending down, as if almost entering hell, zigzag
path descending down . I think this because most nice stairways are straight and go up, not
uneven. The writer also describes the place as a great dungeon ; this says to me that it s a place
of death and torture because those are the words I would think of when dungeon is mentioned.
Also it says there was a gloomy red light, and the gloomier entrance to a black, in whose massive
architecture there was a barbourus, depressing and forbidding air . This makes the reader think that

Transition: Now that we know what a problem animal overpopulation is, let s talk about how we

II.The best way we can help solve the issue is by getting our own pets spayed or neutered.
a.Spay is the term for female animals while neutering is used for male animals. Both are surgical
procedures to remove the reproductive organs of the animal. By performing these procedures, our
pets cannot contribute to the problem because they cannot reproduce. According to Northwest
Spay and Neuter, if every pet was fixed then the overpopulation problem would be fix in less than

puppies can result in 67,000 dogs in six years, and one female cat and her kittens can lead to
370,000 cats being born in seven years.
b.There are several benefits to having your own pet spayed or neutered besides helping solve this
crisis. The benefits include reducing the risk of some of the most common types of cancers,
making it likelier for animals to live a longer and healthier life, and nixing aggression problems.

Cold Blood By Truman Capote, A Cold Blooded Killer
Without the basic necessities such as water and sunlight, a flower will not bloom into a beautiful,
colorful creation, but rather wilt into a brown, unrecognizable mess. Just like a flower needs
water and sunlight to thrive, a child requires support from a guardian to prosper in every aspect.
A secure support system t in a child s life creates healthy relationships as well as providing the
child with a positive perspective and mindset. However in the lives of Perry Smith, a cold blooded
killer in the novel In Cold Bloodby Truman Capote, child soldiers, and the children of the street,
support from the family is seldom displayed. The absence of support leads these persons to lives
filled with hostility and violence; lives of adversity. This goes to show, the absence of support
from a parent figure or family unit has negative impacts on a child s lifestyle.
Throughout numerous areas around the globe, the reality of children living on the street has
become a significant issue. This problem is mainly due to the family s inability to provide
adequate care and resources for their child, Children end up on the streets for a number of
reasons, many of which are rooted in family instability and poverty, (The Children of the Street).

The And Gold Tour Bus From Louisiana State University
On Losing Everything
This past week I saw that purple and gold tour bus from Louisiana State University in my town,
not only surprising me but also forcing me to think back on my childhood in the south. Growing
up in southern Louisiana one must be prepared for major storms and flooding at less than a day s
notice. Hurricanes are powerful storms that can ravish towns and can be deadly for people and
animals alike. Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast in August of 2005, and I was in the
midst of that wreckage. My family and I were living in a small, close knit community, named St.
Amant, about an hour west of New Orleans. On the third day of the hurricane, my family
experienced a loss greater than we could have ever imagined. This ... Show more content on

In no way do I mean to trivialize the severe and deadly effects hurricanes can potentially bring, but
not all hurricanes are the same. Most storms that would make it to the area I used to live usually
lost strength by the time it got to us. For the weaker storms, the kids would get a mini vacation
from school, and the parents got a much needed break from work. At the time, I thought everyone
in Louisiana and especially New Orleans were not ready for what was coming. Louisiana is a
laid back state, due to its French roots. The catch phrase for the state was always Laissez Les
Bon Temps rouler, or Let the good times roll! So, it s easy to see why the media portrayed
Louisianan s as not caring about the tropical storm that was headed our way. We did care, we
were just expecting much less than what we received. I think a good way to describe this is that
people from California have been through many earthquakes and are prepared for them, but
would you stop living your life for a small earthquake that might not happen? Probably not. My
family tried to be as prepared as we possibly could, but there is only so much money to go around
buying things for situations that might not even happen. My dad purchased our first gasoline
generator earlier that year which sadly put a dent into our emergency savings. Nevertheless, we
had enough supplies, water, and food to last about a week if necessary. From my memories, about a
week

Passing By Nella Larsen Analysis
Obsession over Sexuality
Passing by Nella Larsen is a very peculiar novel of race, identity, family, friendship, love, and
sexuality. Her novel portrays the characteristics and symbols of the racial society of 1920s.
Larsen used Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry as examples of light skinned African American of
this Harlem Renaissance. Both women appear similar, but their views on race, family and
friendship were significantly different. Clare differs from Irene by the fact that she uses her
appearance as an advantage, leaving behind her motherhood and her racial identity to gain attention
and wealth. For these two women, sexuality appeals to one another. Larsen presents Irene s
sexuality towards Clare as being dominated by obsession.
Irene s strange attraction and jealousy toward Clare is reveal throughout the novel, which started at
the Drayton Hotel. She felt a peculiar attraction when she saw Clare, an attractive looking young
woman... with those dark, almost black eyes and that wide mouth like a scarlet flower against the
ivory of her sin (14). Irene can t help but be compel over her sexuality. In later assessing of Clare,
Irene always go back to describe Clare with fascination, the eyes were magnificent dark, sometimes

Cognitive Dissonance In Children
One occasion I experienced cognitive dissonance was two years ago. My son was six years old,
and his favorite thing to do was help mommy. On this particular day he surprised me with a
special picnic lunch he made himself. He fixed us both a sandwich and a glass of overly
sweetened chocolate milk. My heart swelled with his consideration and I took a huge bite out of
my sandwich. I should have checked it. Between the slices of white bread lay pickles, mustard,
peanut butter, chocolate chips and ham. The contents of my stomach argued with my mouth; it
threatened expulsion if I tried to swallow. But, that sweet face was looking up at me expectantly
awaiting my delight at his creation. How could I hurt him? I choked it down with a smile on my
face.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a moment too long for honesty s sake, she wanted validation for her own wants. She said it
was her body, she had every right to do what she wanted. If she wanted so have another child it
was solely her decision. Right? She wanted so badly to justify an obviously bad idea in my own
opinion, she changed the question to one I had to agree with and support. I concurred that it was
her choice, as well as her husband s. She said I was right, deciding that night to speak to her
husband about trying to conceive. We hung up and she didn t speak to me until after she gave
birth. She knew what my answer was going to be, but chose to be willfully blind. She resolved my
conflicting opinion by changing the question to one I would agree with. And I, knowing she didn t
want the truth, gave her the answer she wanted.
The most prominent account of I have endured cognitive dissonance happens frequently and
involves the same circumstances. It stems from the loss of my daughter nearly six years ago. For
the most part, I do okay, but there are moments that I relive every second of that trauma. My world
shatters all over again, taking everything in me not to completely break. People notice my
demeanor has changed, my normal upbeat behavior replaced by silence and faraway

Swot Analysis Example
SWOT usage SWOT has been used by countless practitioners, marketing researchers, and is a
frequent and popular tool for business marketing and strategy students. Its simplicity and catchy
acronym perpetuates its usage in business and beyond as the tool is used to assess alternatives and
complex decision situations. In the business arena the grouping of internal and external issues is a
frequent starting point for strategic planning. It can be constructed quickly and can benefit from
multiple viewpoints as a brainstorming exercise. Typically, managers first consider internal
strengths and weaknesses (at the top row of the 2 Г— 2 grid) which can include image, structure,
access to natural resources, capacity and efficiency, and financial... Show more content on

The 142 studies were examined for trends, issues, uses of SWOT, and value added in long term
planning. Specifically, studies were sought that indicated sole use of SWOT analysis or if SWOT
was used in combination with other long range strategic planning tools. The authors next used
affinity diagrams to group and classify the collected studies using summaries on index cards.
Affinity diagrams are a popular text clustering technique used to categorize large number of
seemingly disparate comments ([41] Dobrzynski, 2007; [106] Levesque and Walker, 2007; [132]
Plain, 2007; [196] White et al. , 2002; [117] Mango, 2006). The affinity diagram methodology was
chosen due to its importance as an interpretative, qualitative approach to research, allowing for
investigation and emergence of multiple contextual variables or classification schemes. The
objective of the methodology is to utilize the qualitative data for explanatory purposes and to
generalize findings in support of theory based on a distillation of the various respondent comments.
The clustering of issues into logical categories helps draw inferences from the data collected. Thus
the goal is to better understand categories of service failures and identify the service failures that
result in customer defection. The researchers summarized, grouped, and clustered the comments by
key themes and focus areas. Through the iterative process, major classifications were identified

Sons And Lovers Character Analysis
Discuss Sons and Lovers as the tragedy of class system, social divisions and Industrialization.
D.H Lawrence s Sons and Lovers takes us back to the heart of industrialization the age where
people were more concerned with money, power and class etc. In the first chapter the use of
THE BOTTOMS , Hell Row and Bestwood signifies different areas where people belonging to
different ranks lived. We come to know that Mrs. Morel is being forced to move into a new
residence at The Bottoms and for her this is a great loss. Bestwood might not have been a great
place for her but at least it was a better place than The Bottom which was now on the edge of its
destruction. Mr. Morel and Mrs. Morel are the perfect example of the tragedy that the class
system brings. The first chapter gives us an insight into Mrs. Morel s class we discover that
Mrs. Morel came of a good old burgher family (Lawrence 33) thus pointing out that Mrs. Morel s
ideals and manners were completely different from those of Mr. Morel. We also get to know that
the thing which pleased Mr. Morel most about Mrs. Morel was When she spoke to him, it was with
a southern pronunciation and a purity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The class difference ends up ruining Mr. and Mrs. Morel s marriage. William ends up getting
engaged to a girl he can t really tolerate and he does not want to call of the engagement because
he feels it is too late. Industrialization ends up transforming Mr. Morel from a healthy person into
the picture of an ugly human. He has to work in unsanitary conditions and he often becomes a
victim of accidents. Even Paul ends up becoming pale and weak after a while because he has to
work in the factory. Lawrence through this novel tells us how dangerous industrialization can be
and what kind of harmful affects it can have since Lawrence himself worked in a factory therefore
through Paul he might be relating his own

The Mariner Diction
To begin, let me contextualize and summarize the last these stanzas: the Mariner and his mates,
after killing the albatross, are suffering of dehydration. Then, a ship is seen sailing towards the
men. However, aboard the ship sails Death and Life After Death; they play dice to see who will
deal the fate of each man among the Mariner and his mates. Life After Deathwins one fate: the
Mariner s. Now begins the last three stanzas of Part 3. In them, a bad omen appears as a star
dogged moon (Coleridge 449) a crescent moon with a bright star right near is a bad sailing omen.
After the mates see this omen, they look and curse the Mariner. Then, Death takes all the mates
lives. After this, their souls fly away: the Mariner is alone upon the ship.... Show more content on

I think Coleridge uses rhyme and rhythm (and much more that I wished to speak about) to do
so. Starting with rhyme, let us look at the line where the Mariner hears the bodies of his
shipmates drop dead: ...With heavy thump, a lifeless lump,/ They dropped down one by one
(Coleridge 449). I think these two lines are effective because they accentuate an important and
terrifying point in the story without doing so directly. In the first line, thump and lump rhyme
as coexisting entities. If the two were switched, the line could still be coherent and effective
(perhaps the mind reads them in both ways as well). Yet, dually, these simple words allow for us
to know what is going to happen before it actually does: these two words, like a highlighter,
accentuate a tense foreshadow. Also, in the last stanza, there is an ABAB rhyme scheme. The
words fly, woe, by, and bow (Coleridge 449), all exist, similar to the rhyme spoken about above,
as highlighters of a narrative beat in the poem. In context, these words appear as the Mariner is
left alone in the ship. These words allow for this to be understood as a point of great

Biography of Vincent Van Gogh Essay
This artist has done many works of art that some people just may not seem to understand why it
was made. Some people find an interest in certain paintings while others may not find that exact
attachment to the painting like others. I have chosen to write about this artist because of the many
and beautiful arts of work he has created through many years. Although some I may not find a
meaning to or why he would make a piece of art the way he did, they still seem to catch my
attention to some. Van Gogh was born in Groot Zundert, Holland on March 30, 1853. Vincent Van

Van Gogh s friend, Gauguin, would join him, but things were not going to be for the best.
Towards the end of the year of 1888, a tragic accident would cause Gaugin to leave the town of
Arles. Vincent Van Gogh was going through an episode in which he charged at his friend with an
open razor. During the process, Gaugin would eventually try to stop Van Gogh, but
unfortunately he would only end up just cutting a portion of his own ear lobe off. Vincent than
later became acting out of character which would then lead up to the point where he would be
sent off to an asylum in the town of Saint Remy in order for him to seek to professional help.
Even though Van Gough was raised into a religious environment, he was also raised in a strict
one as well. At one point of his life he was even severely punished by his grandmother. Despite
the fact that Van Gogh was brought up with religion and strictness, he did have some problems of
his own he needed to deal with. Vincent had a bad temper, was always very emotional, and did
not think so highly of himself. He lacked self esteem. Between the ages of seven to eleven, Vincent
was taught at home by a governess. This governess was a trained to teacher who would teach a train
Vincent Van Gogh during his childhood. Sometime between the age of eleven to fifteen, Vincent
would then be shipped off to attend boarding school in the Netherlands. Vincent Van Gogh s first art

The West Eastern Divan Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain impressively

conducted by Daniel Barenboim played the four played all four movements of Symphony no. 9.
The performers brilliantly upgraded the symphony, fully respecting the brilliance of Beethoven. The
performance utilized a large Orchestraand Choir, all of which displayed various musical concepts.
Ultimately, this performance breathtaking performance, respectfully paid homage to one of the
most revered symphonies of all time. The First movement Allegro ma non troppo, un poco
maestoso began with a very angry mood, recapitulating the fortissimo throughout the movement.

Zebrafish Are Small Aquatic Organisms Which Are Common
Zebrafish are small aquatic organisms which are common model organisms for genetic and
embryonic studies. Studies have shown that exposing zebrafish to ethanol can result in
morphological deformities. It is hypothesized that exposing zebrafish embryos to EtOH will result
in more improper development as well as a higher amount of mortality compared to zebrafishnot
treated with EtOH. Additionally, fish exposed at alcoholat 1 hour old will be more deformed than
fish exposed to alcohol at 24 hours old and fish treated with 1% ethanolwill be less deformed than
fish treated with 2% ethanol. In order to study the effects of ethanol, zebrafish embryos which were

There are both genetic and environmental factors which contribute to FAS. Effects of FAS vary
based on the time of exposure to and the concentration of ethanol (Carvan, 2004).
Studies have shown that exposing zebrafish embryos to ethanol causes deformities to the embryo s
skull and other parts of its central nervous system, learning and memory problems, and cell death.
Other effects caused by alcohol include the failure of facial organs to develop and malformation of
the body trunk (Carvan, 2004).
The purpose of the experiment was to investigate if exposing zebrafish embryos to ethanol had
negative consequences on the organism s development. In addition to exploring where or not the
treatment had any effects, it was hypothesized that the intensity of any deformities will be higher if
the embryo is exposed to ethanol earlier post fertilization and at a higher concentration.
Methods and Materials
Zebrafish embryos were studied during two separate weeks. They were bred in house and
maintained on a 14:10 hour light/dark schedule in water temperature lower than 28.5 В°C. The
breeding tank was a five gallon aquarium. Fertilized eggs were initially placed into Petri dishes
and then moved to 500 mL plastic rearing containers. Ethanol solutions were made from a stock
solution of 95% ethyl alcohol diluted with distilled water. These solutions were added

The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao Character Analysis
A motif? Well, what might that be? A motif is a like a reoccurring image or symbol that comes
up more than once in a story. It will disappear and then suddenly just appear again. In, The Brief
Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, written by Junot Diaz, we are introduced to a particular motif, the
mongoose. A mongoose is an animal that is natively from southern Eurasia and the mainland of
Africa. The mongoose comes into the story only as needed. When situations tend to get awkward
or aren t going anywhere, the mongoose comes into play. The writer uses the mongoose as a
magical type of creature. Throughout the novel, we are exposed to a variety of dilemmas in which
the mongoose seems to be a standing factor. It is evident that the mongoose acts as a guardian...

This is years after Beli had her interaction with the mongoose, related to Trujillo s men. Oscar is
planning to kill himself by jumping off of the New Brunswick Bridge. As he is about to do this,
he thinks about all the things that he will miss out on, if he died right then and there. Regretting
all the books he would never write. Maybe he was trying to get himself to reconsider. (190)
However, it wasn t true. He saw the train coming and he closed his eyes, as he was about to jump
off. But he didn t do that either. As he opened his eyes, he saw something. What was it? The
golden mongoose. It was very placid, very beautiful. Gold limned eyes that reached through you,
not much in judgment or reproach but for something far scarier. (190) Yunior described it as
something that Oscar has never seen before. They started at each other it serene as a Buddhist, he
in total disbelief and then the whistle blew again and his eyes snapped open (or closed) and it was
gone. (190) Oscar saw the mongoose and realized that he was there to help him snap out of this
mode of suicidal attempt. Yunior says that Oscar has always wanted something like this to happen
to him, something magical yet mysterious. Again, the golden mongoose was there to help these

How to Institutionalize Peace
Another major influence on the ability to institutionalize peace is the role of powerful national
individuals. Many people will follow an influential figure and do whatever they say if they
believe in what they are being told. This can be both good and bad depending on the situation. If
the leader has radical views and wants change, they will often resort to violence to get what is
desired. That is the worst case scenario because if peace is trying to be obtained, then fighting will
only make the situation worse. This is why major global powers such as the United Stateshave
overthrown important political leaders in other countries to help restore order to the country.
Larger, more powerful countries will often make decisions to intervene if they feel it is in the
best interest of the world or neighboring countries. If such great power is put into the wrong
hands, the consequences can be devastating. McNamara is a good example of a powerful figure
that had a terrific war mind, but wasn t the best when it came to making or keeping peace. The
Vietnam War was one that came with lots of controversy because of how costly it was. The war
lasted many years and resulted in the death of many American soldiers. McNamara felt that we
could win the war and continued to send troops into battle. This was not good for any hopes of
achieving peace because this did nothing but make the Vietnamese unhappy and less likely to want
to stop the war. Instead of trying to make peace

Persuasive Essay On The Vietnam War
The question is how can we begin to change what s going on in this country? Let s take a look at
the Vietnam War. It is an illegal and immoral war. President Johnson lies about bringing
democracy to Vietnam. How does one expect to bring democracy to a country that doesn t want
it? By sending hundreds of thousands of troops and bombing their lands to ashes? That is
textbook for tyranny and absolute power. Just because a nation doesn t want to live the same
way as you doesn t mean you have the right to go across the world and kill them. Our country
wants to be the ruler of all. And our marines are its policemen. What can we do to stop it? What
can we do to stop the killing of women and children? We have to power to stand up and say no.
The only way to stop this war is if our young soldiers follow Muhammad Ali and say No, we ain t
going to fight your war. Why should we travel 8000 miles to kill someone who never called him
a Negro? We should not be obliged to kill someone we are told to kill. We will not allow them to
make us hired killers. If I want to kill someone I decide who. But to put a gun in a man s hands
and send him to kill someone is wrong. It is wrong. How come this country adamantly fights
communism worldwide, but ignores domestic racial oppression? It is because the United States
fails to recognize it. Now there s a rule in Alabama that a political party must have an animal as
their emblem. I helped found the Lowndes County Freedom Organization in Alabama. We

  • 2. Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep Character Analysis Diminishing Difference Between Humans and Androids Throughout Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, author Philip K. Dick explored the effect empathy had on the characters. In the novel, bounty hunters Voigt Kampff Test measured empathy, and if a person was found to fail the test, that person was considered to be an android (Dick 44). As a result of this method, the humans had ironically become the less empathetic, which resulted in androids becoming closer to human by default. Dick explored the declining empathy of humans by looking at what they have resorted to in order to identify androids. The Voigt Kampff Test was a vital tool to the bounty hunters tasked with finding and retiring illegal androids (57); however, the test itself was calculating and cold, only able to deliver a yes or no, fail or pass, 0 or 1 (46). The Voigt Kampff Test, humans only anchor point in a world where anyone could be an android, was just as devoid of empathy as humans see androids (40).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Resh killed his superior officer and Luba Lift, both androids, Deckard becomes convinced that Resh was an android (125). Deckard said that Resh didn t kill the way I do , rather Resh like[d] to kill and only needed a pretext (127). After the incident Deckard reflected on why Resch is such a good bounty hunter and concluded it s his lack of empathy. Paradoxically the best way humans could defend themselves from and hunt androids was to be lacking in empathy towards them, which only made them more and more similar to ... • 3. The Mexican American Border And Its Effects On The United... I am writing this letter to respectively bring your attention to the Mexican American border, its damaging effect on the United States economy, and potential solutions to this specific situation which has become known as the Border Crisis. As you may already know, the border runs from Tijuana, Baja California to Tamaulipas and Texas. According to the International Boundary and Water Commission, the border s length is 1,954 miles and is the most frequently crossed international border, mainly by undocumented immigrants from Mexicoand Central America. As an attempt to contain this influx of illegal migration, former President George W. Bush signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006 stating, This bill will help protect American people. This bill will make our borders more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform. While Mr. Bush may have had the United Statessafety at heart, one must question if the border fence is actually helping the economy or hurting it? There are several problems that have risen following the creation of the border fence; immigrants coming from The Northern Triangle have actually increased, Texas has become the deadliest entry state, undocumented and unaccompanied children are costing taxpayers even more, and simply maintaining the border fence is a very high cost. To start with, when people hear the word immigration , many automatically refer to Mexican immigrants. However, few tend to realize that the majority of immigrants are coming ... • 4. Summary Of Perry Patetic s Odyssey Getting the family together for the holidays may be a little harder when they are 1000 miles apart. Perry Patetic in his passage, claims that it is too easy to move away from the friends and family of our past, this creates a loss in friendship and or relationships. • 5. The Complex Layers Within the Little Mermaid Fairy tales convey political, moral, and social lessons through characters, relationships and setting. They originate from an oral tradition passed down from generation to generation often in a varied form, drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as the Bible and mythology. As societies gained access to the printed word, fairy tales became less changeable and tended to focus on characters who were transitioning from childhood to adulthood (Abler). Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm became renowned for their collection of fairy tales which have been disseminated worldwide and translated into a hundred and sixty different languages during the Romantic period of the nineteenth century (Abler). They often changed tales from their original versions to get rid of sexual undertones and horrific violence against innocent characters, injecting their interpretation of Christian morality into the subtext. Laced with various complex layers, the original tale of The Little Mermaidis imbued with poignant cultural meaning. Sirenetta, the young mermaid protagonist, dwells in a kingdom under the sea with her older sisters, but desires to become human after she falls in lovewith a prince whom she saves from drowning (Brothers Grimm4). She implores the Witch of the Deep for help to get human legs but sacrifices her voice and accepts that every step she takes will be excruciatingly painful (5). Sirenetta and the prince fall in love, but ultimately the prince is ordered to marry another woman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What I Have Learned About Privacy And Security I have learned there is extremely more to the HIM department than I realized. This HIM department located at Sykes is the main location for all of the Northern regions HIM needs. I was able to learn that the HIM department helps answer frequently asked questions and concerns regarding the HIM processes in addition to indicating opportunities where they can facilitate effective outcomes dealing with patient satisfaction. In the future AMG wants to be paperless, also for the health information functions to be efficient, making more use of their EMR automation. The HIM department is also divided into smaller sections: loose report transport, scanning, release of information, record management, and duplicate accounts. Over the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to observe and actually do several of the tasks of the ROI department. In the classroom, we discussed HIPAA regulations when it comes to ROI functions, however; actually seeing it in practice reinforces what I was taught in class about privacy and security. ROI is a very complex process; a person needs to be mindful when releasing patient s personal health information and that all requests submitted are HIPAA compliant. There are two authorization forms one that is for the release of standard health information and a special authorization for some patients with some information dealing with mental health, HIV test results, treatment for alcohol, or drug abuse. A good deal of time goes into reading subpoenas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Invisible Man And The Giving Tree By Shell Silverstein As important and necessary literature is for many things, such as introducing and connecting broad thoughts, ideas, and topics to people, not all literature is suited for the masses. Most literature contains hard to grasp concepts with underlying themes and ideas. Introduce formalism, the formalist literary criticism acts as a way to simplify and convey the complex topics that are not explained thoroughly in most literature. The Invisible Manby H.G. Wells, and The Giving Tree by Shell Silverstein are two works of literature that convey important ideas that literature does, without the complex layers most literature has. The Formalist or New literary criticism is reflected in both of these books through their style, tone, and structure. The style in both novels is simple first person and third person point of view. Though it may seem trivial, the point of view helps the author effectively convey the message of their story without hidden messages, plots, and themes to decipher. In The Invisible Man, Wells had to imagine how one might feel with no physical appearance, full of shame for his experiments gone awry, and longing to regain what he had and who he once was and put those thoughts and feelings into words. Shell Silverstein uses dialogue between a boy and a tree to teach, and convey ideas of unconditional love, and selflessness in The Giving Tree. From the Chinese laborers building the transcontinental railway, inner cities laundry services, to Asian farmers who have helped build the agriculture communities around the country, Asian American have contributed to the industries and economy of America. Despite their loyalty and contributions to this country, Asian Americans have been discriminated and considered as unassimilable by many Americans. As the popularity of Fu Manchu increased, Hollywood was quick to take advantage and portray this character as a threat to white supremacy. According to Eugene Franklin Wong s The Early Years: Asians in the American Films Prior to World War II, Rohmer, the creator of Fu Manchu stated I MADE MY MANE ON FU MANCHU BECAUSE I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT the Chinese... I know something about Chinatown. But that is a different matter. (Wong, 57) This presented a problem as the whole perception of Dr. Fu Manchu was based on generalization and ignorance. Unfortunately, ignorance of Asian culture became the root of Asian characters in motion pictures. The ambiguity and general facelessness of Asian characters and communities lead to the creation of a low budget film called Chan is Missing (1981) by Wayne Wang. As two amateur detective cab drivers search the San Francisco s Chinatown for the mysterious Chan, but never do find him or even reach any conclusion about why he is missing. (Marchetti, 53) Kyaw 3 On the other hand, Hollywood s depictions of different ethnic Asian are not always negative or evoke racism. Stock options and warrants give the holder the right to purchase a share of stock at a predetermined price within a given time period. According to Richard G Schroeder in the textbook Financial Accounting Theory and Analysis: Text and Cases, under current GAAP the cash inflow received from these securities needs to be reported as equity. The value reported in subsequent periods is historical and does not change in response to changes in the market value of these securities. SFAC No. 6 defines equity as the residual interest in the assets of an entity that remains after deducting its liabilities. If options and warrants do not meet the definition of liabilities, then they must meet the definition of equity. A liability is an obligation that embodies a future sacrifice of assets. Horror films tend to be low quality and sometimes they are garbage. I have seen my share of lousy horror films. I do watch horror films to be entertained and I enjoy the suspense. • 15. Impact Of Technology On The Banking Industry Changing Technologies The change and advancement in technology are a significant factor in the banking business. Technology has led to tremendous improvements in this industry. Since the commencement of this millennium, people have shown great love for their mobile phones (Ozaki 1992). It necessitated the invention of mobile applications (APPs). From the introduction of the mobile banking, APP people rarely go to the banks. All their transactions get done simply by the stroke of a finger. Businesses face a challenge of adapting to changes in the technology sector. Mobile banking either through actual investing or any other means is on the rise. According to the most recent Federal Reserve study; most of us haven t set foot in a banking hall in ages. It is a lost battle to banks that opt to use traditional methods to conduct their banking transactions (Gup 2003). By December of last year, close to half of all smartphone users in the United States had transacted some or all of their banking on their phones and iPhones. While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns, the automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude Weiss, 2011). People who were deemed to be outsiders were brutalized for political beliefs, race, religion and many other reasons. Most of these reasons seem illogical and a lot of people wonder how someone can be brutalized because they look different or think differently. The most famous example where outsiders were brutalized is the Holocaust in Germany, but there are many other examples. Outsiders were even brutalized before in the United States. There are many different accounts of brutalization throughout World War 2 and after World War 2. The film Stalingrad shows the brutalization of the Russian soldiers by the German soldiers. The play In the Matter of J. A president has a limit of time in office, and can serve up to two terms, four years at a time. I believe like this is a good and bad thing. While it gives our president time to make good decisions, and time to actually change things in our country, if the president has bad ratings, there is nothing we can do about it until his term is up. There is only one circumstance when a president can be voted out of office before his term is up, and that is called impeachment. This can happen when the president has committed acts treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors, thus giving the power to the house of representatives to impeach him, and the senate the power to remove him for office, given a two thirds vote to convict. This rarely happens though, and throughout history only two presidents have ever been impeached; Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998 (http://biden.senate.gov). In Canada, the Prime Minister s terms of office are determined much differently. The prime minister is appointed by the Governor General on behalf of the queen. The governor general will typically pick the leader of the party that has the most seats in the house to maintain stability in the government. • 25. The Apparent Second City Syndrome Feeling Rings In this essay I will discuss to what extent Maiken Umbach interpretation of the apparent second city syndrome feeling rings true in Eduardo Mendoza s La Ciudad de los Prodigios through a political, social and economic standpoint. Furthermore, I will analyse How Mendoza expresses his own personal feelings of the relationship between Barcelonaand Madrid in the novel in regards to Barcelona and Catalonia s desire to be independent from Spain. The start of the novel takes place just before the first World s Fair in Barcelona in 1888. This is on the backdrop of the start of the Spanish Industrial Revolution and Barcelona was at the epicentre of this revolution in Spain as there was mass migration of countryside workers to the city during this period. As a consequence this caused a huge population increase in Barcelona in a few years and this is portrayed in La Ciudad de los Prodigios. Conforme al censo de 1887... contaba con 416.000 habitantes, y este nГєmero iba en aumento a un ritmo de 12.000 almas por aГ±o. This gives us the impression that Mendoza is trying to display to the reader how much of an increase there has been in the population of Barcelona since the start of the industrial revolution and how much of a strain this has had on the city itself and how the city s metropolitan area has increased to accommodate this huge influx of people from the countryside. This adheres to Maiken Umbach Statement that second cities were the hub of mass population migration from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of this study is to determine the impact of visitor presences on Matschie s tree kangaroo welfare. In this experiment, 10 tree kangaroos will be examined by testing two treatment groups: no visitor contact and exposure to visitors. Treatment groups will be tested for 1 day period in a total of 10 study days and 5 days for each treatment group. Instantaneous point sampling and continuous sampling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because while zoos try to raise awareness on conservation programs by allowing visitors to have a close interaction with animals, this however sometimes comes at the expense of the animals welfare (Calyton, Fraser, Saunders, 2009).Research has suggested that visitors can affect animal behaviour and stress physiology even when animals are separated by barriers (Fernandez et al., 2009). A recent study has indicated that when exposed to visitors, the level of vigilance increased in both Kangaroo Island kangaroos and Red kangaroos. Furthermore, Kangaroo Island kangaroos would increase time spent in locomotion and decrease time spent on resting (Sherwen, 2015). In addition, previous studies have shown that social factors and conditions of confinement have proven to cause stress for tree kangaroos (Hutchins et al., 1991). As a consequence, this reduces the chances of reproductive success, thus zoo populations are declining. A more detailed understanding of tree kangaroo behaviour and stress triggers is needed to advance the reproductive success of this endangered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of The Red Room by H.G Wells, The Signalman by Charles Dickens, and An Arrest by Ambrose Bierce The Victorian era, spanning from 1830 1901, was a period of dramatic change with the rapid extension of colonialism through Africa, Asia and the West Indies making England a world power and relocating the perceived centre of western civilisation to London. Advances in industry, science, technology, architecture, medicine and travel were among these changes as well as the growing interest, among the masses, in the occult, supernatural and life. Affinity diagrams are a popular text clustering technique used to categorize large number of seemingly disparate comments ([41] Dobrzynski, 2007; [106] Levesque and Walker, 2007; [132] Plain, 2007; [196] White et al. , 2002; [117] Mango, 2006). The objective of the methodology is to utilize the qualitative data for explanatory purposes and to generalize findings in support of theory based on a distillation of the various respondent comments. The clustering of issues into logical categories helps draw inferences from the data collected. I think Coleridge uses rhyme and rhythm (and much more that I wished to speak about) to do so. Starting with rhyme, let us look at the line where the Mariner hears the bodies of his shipmates drop dead: ...With heavy thump, a lifeless lump,/ They dropped down one by one (Coleridge 449). I think these two lines are effective because they accentuate an important and terrifying point in the story without doing so directly. In the first line, thump and lump rhyme as coexisting entities. If the two were switched, the line could still be coherent and effective (perhaps the mind reads them in both ways as well). Yet, dually, these simple words allow for us to know what is going to happen before it actually does: these two words, like a highlighter, accentuate a tense foreshadow. Also, in the last stanza, there is an ABAB rhyme scheme. The words fly, woe, by, and bow (Coleridge 449), all exist, similar to the rhyme spoken about above, as highlighters of a narrative beat in the poem. In context, these words appear as the Mariner is left alone in the ship. These words allow for this to be understood as a point of great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
