Task 3
What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and
why
Distribution
 Distribution is the when a companies makes a film available for the
public or an audience to see.
 Examples of companies that do this are:
Icon film distribution Warner bros


Columbia Film district
 The films that are distributed by the examples of distribution
companies are a range of very different genres. These include:
Icon film distribution
Paranormal activity
Mr Magoriums wonder emporium
It’s a boy girl thing
Columbia
Stuart Little
Charlie’s angels
Spider man
Film district
Insidious
Looper
The rum diary
Warner bros
The dark knight
Space jam
Harry potter
Because of the genre and storyline of our film opening Icon film
distribution and Film district would be the most likely distributers
out of the examples I picked to be interested in releasing it. This is
because they have both been the distributers of a psychological
thriller and would be comfortable in knowing how successful these
films have been and would take the chance with our film. The films
they have previously distributed are Paranormal activity and
Insidious.
The films appeal
Our film would not only appeal to the uk because the target audience
can range from anyone from 15 to 50 in any country.
However the audience would have to understand English or the
effect of the film using subtitles may be ruined.
Strategies
The marketing strategies can be a range of different things. What I
would do to get people interested in seeing the film would be to focus
on some scary or mysterious scenes in the film and put them in a
trailer which I would release a few months before the release of the
film.
I would make the release of the film near October so that the
audience is in the festive mood for the type of film it would be.
Self distribution
Pros-
In control of decisions
Accomplishment of doing it yourself
Cons-
A low budget
People may want to see a famous film distribution logo
Not enough experience
I would not self distribute my own film because they are
more negative points than positive which would be more
of a chance for the film to fail.
