4. Theme or focus of images
In all of the photos your eye is always drawn to the product either because it’s been
centred or it is the most vibrant thing in the photo. In all of the photos he makes the
product bright and exciting and it isn’t dark in any of the photos. Only one photo has
an actual person and that is the advert for diet coke and all that is shown is 2 cans of
diet coke and a man’s abs, used obviously for sex appeal. All of the photos have a
tagline in them also always near the product. The company’s logo is on the majority
used also. All of the photos make the product appealing.
Composition
Most of the photos look as they may have been taken in a studio with certain
positioning and editing in action shots such as photo 1 he would of framed them so
you saw the action, so he couldn’t really have zoomed out because anything extra
would just be background. But with the diet coke advert I suppose he could have
zoomed out more to see more of the man but I think it looks good the way it is
because it concentrates more on the product. He frames the adverts so the primary
focal point is the product.
Techniques used
All the photos look like they were taken in a studio so the photographer had full
control of the lighting so he could have the shutter speed that he wanted but
because most of the shots were bright he obviously used a faster shutter speed. There
is editing on the last photo to make the dishwasher tray longer and edit the washing
up liquid below it. There is also a lot more touch ups elsewhere.
Strengths & Weaknesses
I like how vibrant the images are and how the first thing you look at is the product,
also like the work in the background such as the ice explosion in the carling advert. I
will probably try to replicate this in my work.
I dislike how some of the photos have way too much writing on the photo and it
takes up too much space of the photo and takes away from how good the photo is.
So I will try to avoid this.
