A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 2. What have I learnt By constructing this product, I have learnt how to use various types of different software. I produced all three documents of my magazine on Photoshop where I basically learnt how to use the software programme. By also using Photoshop for the preliminary task, I was able to improve my abilities for when I started my actual magazine. Developing my skills in this way allowed me to be able to make my music magazine look more professional and allowed me to save time when making it.This is due to me knowing how to perform basic tasks such as setting up new layers, cropping, resizing and editing the images I have used.
- 3. Before this work Before I started this work, I did not know how to use Photoshop at all. I can now confidently edit and manipulate images by using the crop tool, the spot tool and others. Using Photoshop in the preliminary task allowed me to find out the best way to edit the images in terms of order. It allowed me to create a set routine every time I added in an image and began to edit it.
- 4. Taking the images To take my photographs, I used a professional photography camera (canon) which allowed me to create different types of images. I also used a white screen background and professional lighting, this allowed me to create professional effects within the photographs such as fades.This allowed me to make my photographs look more appealing and attractive to the target audience as they are not and will not be pixelated or unclear.

Editing the images Again I used a Photoshop document to edit the images to make them look like something that would be found in a pop magazine, this included editing out spots and whitening teeth, I was also able to airbrush the skin to make it smoother.This shows how the technology allowed me to make the images look more professional in Photoshop.

Skills I have developed The skills I have developed during this coursework will allow me to take them further and allow me to continue learning them meaning my work will be of a better standard in the future. During this period of time, I have completely learned how to use the canon cameras and set up a photoshoot using the white screen and lights. I am now able to set up the camera, take images and delete them whilst also being able to minorly edit them on there as well.
- 7. What I have used and where I will use them next Throughout this coursework, I have used many different technologies to upload and create my work. I have used slide share to upload my presentations and aYouTube link for my focus group. Blogger is the name of the blog site that I have used to upload my coursework on to.These sites are very common with good customer feedback, it allowed me to upload and protect my work whilst it is online.The advantages of me using these technologies were the fact that they had a simple layout and it did not take long to find out how to use them, also that they were reliable.
