1. I completed a focus group session in class for our Radio Show, in which I received
both positive and negative feedback.
For my first story, the copy only informative sports story of Manchester United’s exit
from the F.A cup, this was considered my strongest story out of my 3 stories by
both me and the audience. The main reasons being this story was the one spoken
most clearly, because during the recording of my other two stories I had a cold and
a cough which affected the sound of my voice and meant I had to re-record
numerous times because of coughing. The positives of this story I think was that it
was spoken clearly, my presentation style was quite confident, the sound quality was
good and the story was quite informative. The negatives are there were a few
stutters that I would work on if I was to record again and I could speak with more
emotion in my voice. I feel the story’s themes were suitable for the intended
audience and the story was featured at the end of the show to finish on a light
hearted note. The editing process for this story was quite simple because it was a
copy only story and there were no external clips to use.
For my second story, the promotional entertainment voicer story of the return of
Game of Thrones. This story was also featured near the back end of the show
because it was more of a light story in comparison to the stories at the beginning
so I do feel it was suitable for the intended audience because it added a much
needed lighter story. The presentations style for this story was more professional I
think than the Manchester united story. The positives of this story I think is the way
I presented the story and asked the questions which I think was quite professional.
The negatives were that I sounded a bit weird because I had a blocked nose and I
could have completed a more in-depth interview. The editing process was a bit
longer for this story because I had to clip some ‘erms’ from the interviewee out and
get rid of some dead air.
For the third story, the vox-pops serious informative hard- news story of the migrant
capsize over the Mediterranean. This was my weakest story in my opinion just
because of the presentation style throughout, there is quite a few stutters over
words and my voice sounds weird as a result of having a blocked nose. Aside from
that I feel the story was probably the most suitable story because it was a relevant
topical issue that was being discussed nationwide. The positives of the story I think
is the actual content and script of the story, the negatives I believe to be is my
presentation style and speech in this story. For the editing process as there were
interviews again, I had to cut out a couple of dead air moments but aside from that
it was pretty simple because I executed the interviews pretty efficiently and I also
had to choose relevant quotes and cut out others.
For the overall news programme I think the outstanding negative is varying audio
levels throughout our stories as a group, I tried to remedy this when editing but
2. there was still a big difference even after editing. The positives I think of our
programme was the general content and backbone to the stories, the majority of our
scripts and stories had good structures and well put across. I feel our new show
does suit the needs of the college student audience because there is a mix of
categories of news stories such as entertainment, sports and hard news. If I were
to complete the project again I would take into account the audio levels more and
ensure we all sound as professional as possible when conducting our stories.
