What Is My Most Important Summer Essay
My Most Important Summer Some people like to stay in control of their life and avoid any amount of
extraordinary risk to protect their self disclosure. Other people don t shy away from challenges as they
are confident that certain obstacles are nothing more than just another thing standing in their way from
living life to the fullest extent. Through personal experience, I ve realized that personal comfort is
nothing more than a variety of fears that limit me from challenging myself. One balmy summer
morning my friends convinced me to come swim in Grapevine Lake, which would be very enticing if
I was a strong swimmer or had any swimming experience whatsoever. I was a fairly reserved person,
and most of the time the idea of risk or failure decided whether or not I would partake in certain
activities. In contrast, my two friends, Austin and Nick, always were willing to take risks and defy
their natural comfort, if they even had any. I accepted their request, although there was doubt in the
back of my mind. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immediately, I angled my position and went for a dead sprint toward the water. I jumped off the cliff. I
never felt anything like it; the trajectory had me flying through the air for longer than I expected. A
surge of adrenaline pulsed through my body, bringing a new sense of life to me. The scorching heat
went away as gravity pulled my body toward the water, bringing me a pleasant breeze through my fall.
Then, I finally hit the water. I didn t stick a solid landing, as I went head first into the water. I panicked
and opened my eyes under the murky water, only to see nothing but dirt and sediments float around
me. I kept sinking and saw a monstrous fish swim right in front of my face. At that very moment, my
body went into overdrive, and I managed to project myself back up to the

The Benefits Of Methamphetamine
Methamphetamine is a highly addictive central nervous stimulant that induces the release of serotonin,
dopamine, and norepinephrine. Its side effects include increased alertness, increased activity, high
blood pressure, decreased appetite, euphoria, psychosis, and severe dental disease (Ravenel et al. 229).
In 1919 methamphetamine was synthesized for the first time and was utilized for treatment of
attention deficit disorder, to enhance physical performance, anorectic effects, increase wakefulness,
and as a general mood enhancer (Padilla and Ritter 148). The manufacturing of methamphetamine
became strictly regulated by The Controlled Substance Act of 1970, however, this didn t stop the
manufacturing of meth on the streets using simple and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is vital to determine current use of methamphetamine and refer the patient to a rehabilitation center
before any elective treatment. Meth users may be hesitant to admit drug usage, so dental professionals
should express concern for the state of their oral health while being nonjudgmental in their
questioning. Reviewing basic oral hygiene and the etiology of periodontal disease with the patient is
recommended. Restorations with conventional means in patients who will continue to use meth is
contradictory as the decay will recur underneath the material. Instead, Kelsch recommends sealing the
area with fluoride and a xylitol releasing fluoride varnish and/or glass ionomer sealant and surface
protectant which will still benefit the patient during active drug use (24). Stimulation of saliva can be
achieved by prescribing medications to increase saliva flow such as pilocarpine or cevimeline, as well
as advising the patient to chew sugarless gum. A neutral fluoride is recommended to aid in the
remineralization of tooth structure and buffering the oral pH (Goodchild and Donaldson 587). Angular
chelitis and oral thrush may be treated with a fifty fifty mixture of Benadryl and Kaopeptate, which
should offer some pain relief and encourage the healing process (Kelsch 25). Unfortunately, in the
advanced stages of meth mouth, the only treatment may be extraction. There are treatment
modifications that should

They Call Him Mr. Gacy Essay
There are numerous portraits, perspectives, and analyses of the life and deeds of American serial killer
John Wayne Gacy, who is thought to have sexually assaulted and murdered 32 boys between 1976 and
his arrest in December 1978 (Cahill, 1978; Gacy, 1989). This profile of Gacy compiles a birth to death
chronology of events and activities that may lend insight to the personality of a habitual liar, model
citizen, and serial murderer.
Born to Marion Elaine Robinson Gacy and John Hanely Gacy on St. Patrick s Day in 1942, John
Wayne Gacy was the second of three children. The alcoholic Gacy, Sr. was both physically and
verbally abusive towards the entire family. His special interest in John, Jr. was the litany that he was

In September of 1964 he married his co worker Marilynn Myers whose father owned a franchise of
Kentucky Fried Chicken. Shortly after his wedding John?s father in law offered him a job. John and
his new wife then moved to Iowa. John was a tireless worker, but maintained an active community
involvement through the Jaycees.
During this period, John and his wife invited employees to their home for drinks and television.
Hidden in the game room were homosexual videos, alcohol, and marijuana. One particular visit to
their home, John approached employee Westphal to solicit a blowjob. Although Westphal declined the
offer, John would joke with him that if he ever caught Westphal with his wife, he would owe John that
blowjob. During a subsequent visit, Westphal became inebriated at John?s house and stayed the night
in the guest room. After Westphal began to doze off, Marilynn entered the room and joined Westphal
in bed. John then entered the room to remind Westphal of his obligation. Fearing the loss of his job,
Westphal fulfilled John?s desires. After this incident rumors of John?s sexual preferences began to
spread.
John?s interests in young boys increased and in the spring of 1968 he was indicted by a grand jury in
Black Hawk County for allegedly committing sodomy with a teenage boy named Mark Miller. Mark
told the courts that John had tricked him into being handcuffed and had then violently raped him.

The On The House Of Medici
By looking at the political history of major world powers, we are clearly aware of the events of
legitimation crises: the House of Medici was confronted by the people under the influence of religious
Savonarola; American Civil War emerged from a conflict of ideologies of the North and the South;
Southeast Asian countries went through unsuccessful and even destructive decolonization; Communist
China was challenged by large scale protests after the East European upheaval. It is definitely a
serious task for rulers to maintain a good standing as not to be overthrown, but various sources of
crises made it hard for the authority to predict outcomes and plot countermeasures. The Prince
discusses the charm of pure princely power, without the addition of morality; Huntington introduces
the political gap caused by modernization; Nisbet warns the public of an increasingly more centralized
authority; De Jasay investigates the nature of repression and consent. The research findings of the
aforementioned authors elicit me to better comprehend potential priorities of governments.
1)A government may push forward the process of institutionalization in line with economic
development.
2)A government need to understand the core interests of people to gain consent.
3)A government should be decisive and flexible when encountering adversaries.
Huntington, in his work, equates modernity with stability and modernization with chaos. He argues
that during the process of modernization, drastic

The Presentation of Bill Sikes in Oliver Twist Essay
Analyse the presentation of Bill Sikes in the novel Oliver Twist.
You should refer to aspects such as the author s viewpoint, language and the social and historical
contest.
I am going to write a detailed and accurate piece of writing in the form of an essay to answer the
statement above. I will do this by using quotes from the book, my own theories on what the author is
trying to portray Bill Sikes as and also my own knowledge of the
Victorian era. I will be looking at specific areas, which I feel will help me write a more concluding
and correct account of the story
Oliver Twist.
I will focus on areas such as Bill Sikes behaviour towards others, how characters around Sikes react

This then raises general awareness to everyday people that pickpockets are about and that in this era
poverty was a problem.
As the story was written in 1800 s the language spoken is very different from that which is used now.
Dickens uses slang
blowed upon ,
Blocks out swearing
d me ,
And abbreviates words
d ye hear me .
This is how people talked then, especially in the underworld of
London. When Sikes talks like this it makes him sound tougher as if he is speaking in a very loud,
angry voice.
Many adjectives are used to describe Sikes and his appearance stoutly built , growled out ,
And
drab beeches
These perfectly allow us to visualise the character, which Dickens is trying to portray, an aggressive
man. Sikes is both verbally and physically very violent, examples of both of these are,
lie down! This command was accompanied with a kick
This was he talking to his dog Bullseye.
Strong words and phrases are used by Sikes, which further more shows his authority on others around
him, he is portrayed as a bully.
I d have settled somebody ,
come in ,
D ye hear?
And
lie down!
Some of these examples are of Sikes being a bully towards his dog.
Other instances of Sikes being a bully are in the ways he treats other characters in the story,
particularly Nancy and Bullseye. Nancy is

Reaction To The Stamp Act Essay
Reactions To The Stamp Act The Stamp act was a law passed by the British parliament in 1765. It was
a law that said every piece of paper had to have a stamp. England would use the money from the
stamps to help pay for the recently concluded French and Indian War because England was in a great
deal of debt. People in the colonies thought of themselves as equal to the people in England, but the
people in Britain didn t agree. So when the British tried to force a tax on them, the colonists realized
the truth. This sparked things in the colonies such as riots and the burning of supporters houses.
Different groups of colonists reacted differently to the stamp act; wealthy colonists reacted more
nonviolently, with petitions and letters, while commoners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wealthy politicians took a more peaceful route. They mostly wrote petitions and wrote letters to
the England. But, this strategy didn t work that well because they would do this in their private time,
so nobody knew about it. Unfortunately, rich government officials that were against it personally
would have to publicly have to say they were for it out of fear of losing their job because if the British
saw the people that were supposed to be enforcing these rules, they would be fired. These more
peaceful routes were largely ignored by people in Britain. The other reaction to the British Parliament
trying to pass the Stamp Act has by the commoners, or people without wealth. They reacted with large
scale riots and protests. They would burn down people s houses that supported the Stamp Act. They
even did a hanging in effigy (which is when you hang something in place of a person that doesn t exist
or you can t hang at that time) to the Tax Man . The Tax Man represented what they thought of The
Stamp Act and their defiance of Britain. These violent acts got the results they were looking for and on

Epicurus Happiness
According to Epicurus, the purpose of life is attaining happiness since, if [happiness] be present, we
have everything, and, if [happiness] be absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it.
Although that statement is undoubtedly true, people use different ways for finding happiness. Epicurus
believes that the best guideline towards happiness is pursuing pleasure, which is the alpha and omega
of a blessed life , and avoiding pain. That is why many people describe his approach as very
hedonistic. However, he makes it clear that by pleasure he means the absence of pain in the body and
of trouble in the soul , and not the pleasures of the prodigal or the pleasures of sensuality , which sets
him apart from hedonism. What is more,

Differences Between The Help Book And Movie
The Help, Kathryn Stockett s novel and film discuss the story of African American maids working in
white Southern homes for the upper class white people during the early 1960 s in Jackson,
Mississippi. There are multiple dissimilarities between the novel, The Help and the film, The Help .
Even though the administrator managed to keep the same storyline, there still are not as many
similarities as differences in the film and novel. To begin with, the director had kept many of the
characters appearances and personalities the same in the film as in the novel. Some disparities were
that in the novel Skeeter is hefty and tall, but the movie has her lean and average height. Hilly is
portrayed in the book as an dark haired woman, whose weight enlarged throughout the ending of
book, but in the film, she is very thin and stays that way throughout the whole film. Also in the film,
Skeeter s maid Constantine, is smaller than Skeeter although in the book it says that Constantine is the
only person who made Skeeter feel tiny and short. Lastly, Constantine s daughter in the movie Rachel,
is an African American, but in the novel, it says she may have a white daughter or even no daughter. In
the book, the Skeeter s family finds out Constantine is dead when sending a personal check to her and
her daughter sends it back saying she has passed away. In the film, Skeeter s mother says that her
brother went to go bring Constantine back, but he finds out she has passed away. In the movie,

History of the Traditional School Calendar Essay
History of the Traditional School Calendar
The American educational system is based on the traditional, nine month school calendar, which has
been in place for over a century. Originally, the United States was an agrarian society. The majority of
Americans lived on farms. People made most of the items that they needed, and with little trade
necessary, there was no need for schooling (McLain, 1973). However, as people branched out into
neighboring areas, they needed to learn new skills, such as basic arithmetic to price items, measure
land, and more (McLain, 1973). As a result, it became the responsibility of those who were less
needed on the farm or in the factory to acquire knowledge for the family (McLain, 1973).

The first year round school was established in 1904 in Bluffton, Indiana (Glines, 2002). Year round
education is described as a calendar modification that requires students to begin school earlier and end
later than normal, with the lost summer vacation redistributed in blocks throughout the year (Glines,
2002, 2698). It is important to note that year round schools have the same number of days in a
calendar year as does the traditional school year. However, the days are distributed throughout the
year. Year round schools differ from traditional schools in a variety of ways.
Single Track Calendar
In order to accommodate the year round calendar, there are several forms of year round education. The
first form follows a single track calendar. This is the most popular type of calendar (Shields, 2000). A
single track year is usually implemented to provide a more balanced and enriched education program
or to accommodate the special scheduling needs of a community (Glines, 2002, 2699). A single track
calendar takes on a 45/15 design. This is where students go to school for forty five days in a row, and
then have a fifteen day break. It is a continuous cycle. Schools usually begin in early August, and
follow this pattern four times to complete the school year (Glines, 2002). The three week break in
between is called an intersession. During this time, students can choose to take additional educational
courses through remedial,

Visual Aspects Of The Graphic Design

things I notice are inanimate objects or breathing beings, I take locations, mediums, and other minute

it is important to utilize your surroundings with your creations. The details that I notice may inspire
me in my own personal works as well as those that I create for others. Everyday experiences influence

When first introduced to this project the only requirements addressed were that four objects with one

inspired by Kahlo for this portrait since she has made several self portraits within her lifetime and
developed her unique personalities striving as an independent female artist. I felt the need to utilize the
opportunity to create an atypical piece in admiration of the unique individual. The objects of the

Copper Carbonate Lab Report
The reaction characteristics of basic copper carbonate 〖mCuCO〗_3⋅n〖Cu(OH)〗_2 were
observed by changing the reaction mole ratio. The reaction mole ratio of sodium carbonate to copper
chloride (II) was controlled from 1.08 to 1.68. Fig. 1 shows the XRD patterns of copper carbonate
powder. At a reaction ratio of 1.08, paratacamite (Cu_2 Cl(OH)_3 ), beside alkali copper carbonate,
was formed because of incomplete reaction at a copper content of 53.9 wt%. Lack of sodium
carbonate may cause incomplete reaction with copper chloride (II) because of low pH (6.0) of the
solution [12]. The copper content according to the reaction mole ratio were 57.7, 50.5, 58.8, 59.3, and

Vladimir Lenin As A Hero
Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, throughout time many of them have risen and fallen. A hero is
characterized as someone that is a leader to his people, they reflect societal views, and yet they have a
major flaw that often causes their downfall. During the 20th century a revolutionary man rose from his
years of exile to lead the Bolshevik party into power, his name, Vladimir Lenin. Lenin stands as a
prime example of a leader that reflects Russia s social values, and as a flaw for his outspoken nature
suffers from a near death assassination. Vladimir Lenin, like Achilles, looked for ways that benefited
him in order to gain power, he was an aggressive man that had a certain set of beliefs that led to
become a Marxist. Lenin enrolled in the Kazan University, only to be expelled within his first term for
participating in a student demonstration. During his time from his studies, Lenin immersed himself in
revolutionary politics, taking a large interest in Karl Marx s writings, this later played a large influence
during his time of power. Lenin in many cases is similar to Achilles, a fictional warrior from the Iliad.
In book 22, Priam compares Achilles to Orion s dog, to Greeks this is a bad omen. Priam then turns to
his son, who stands outside the gates of Troy, and tells him this, He is more powerful by far than you,
and pitiless (143, bk 22, lines 47 48). Priam knows that Hector has no chance of winning against

ABSTRACT
A resilience framework for understanding cognitive aging implies a search for factors that buffer
against existing risk, enabling one to thrive in what might otherwise be adverse circumstances. The

Agency in sustaining an engaged lifestyle does not just derive from naive optimism (e.g., the little
engine that could ), but rather from a whole constellation of resources crafted over the life span that
puts force behind ones sense of agency (e.g., Infurna, Gerstorf, Ram, Schupp, amp; Wagner, 2011).
Cognitive capacity does not come for free. By some estimates, proficiency in a substantive skill
requires about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice (Ericsson, Krampe, Tesch Römer, 1993; Gladwell,
2008). The normalization of optimal life span cognitive development, then, will ultimately derive
from cultural and social institutions (e.g., health care, educational resources) that position individuals
for effective engagement in experiences and activities that nurture cognition on a large scale over
extended time. In the pages that follow, we consider the factors that have potential to contribute to
cognitive resilience through the life span. The 10,000 hour rule implies that not all skills will be
developed to an equal extent and that cognitive resilience must entail selectivity in what is optimized,
as well as compensatory strategies for managing activities that depend on nonoptimized skills.
Because plasticity decreases with age, the 10,000 hour rule might be expected to become something
like a 15,000 hour rule for new skills developed in late life. However, the 10,000 hour rule also
implies that by mid to later adulthood, investment in skill development of

with my environment, or the people around me. It is, essentially, a roller coaster identity. It is the
revelation of a basic inefficacy or strain in producing an unwavering sense of self. You mentioned that
stress often causes you to be hard on yourself and others. I too suffer from being very hard on myself,
but I found that the struggle came from me trying to blend in with my environment. As a result, I may
have offered to much input into a conversation, but didn t get much out of it at all. According to

Wasted Time In High School
Emily Sellers
Composition 1301 332
Mrs. Kinkead
24 September 2017 Wasted time in High School
Public high schools tend to waste a lot of time in class doing things that aren t related to school at all.
It has been reported that in many schools, teachers make students do chores for them for extra credit
points, while others are learning new things. Jay Mathews wrote A startling waste of precious
classroom time, published in 2014 in the Washington Post, and he argues that so much time is wasted
in low income schools due to teachers and it makes it very difficult for students to learn in that
environment. Mathews begins to establish pathos by stating the names of two girls that go to Compton
High School and want to learn, but their school is unable to give them the education they desire.
Mathews established ethos a little later in his article by stating facts about programs he has
encountered with inner city schools; however, toward the end of his article, he uses facts to establish
logos, which is the appeal of logic, while stating that schools have been sued because low income
students have not been given the right education.
Mathews explains that Wasting time is common in the nation s low income schools. Class schedules
can be a mess at the beginning of the year, forcing students to wait days in the library for their
assignments (Mathews). Mathews establishes ethos through stating the facts of wasted time in low
income schools. Mathews states that at Compton High

Correlation between Playing Team Sports in High School or...
I do believe that potentially, if you played team sports in high school/college that it will increase your
chances of landing that big job. People do not realize what it takes to play a team sport, it takes team
work, work ethic, mental strength, I can go on and on about what you need to be able to succeed in a
sport. Just having those skills listed above can help you prepare for the career field you will be going
in. Think about having a job, there are a lot of skills you need to possess in order to succeed in that
career field. It is much like playing a team sport; you need to be able to use those same skills you used
when you played a team sport to become successful in the work force. These are just some of the
reasons why playing a team sport will help you land that big job in the work force.
Let s say you are a owner for a huge business, and you had to fire someone for whatever reason, when
you go to hire that new candidate, which one would you choose; a guy who is very friendly, outgoing,
great communication skills, and a great leader, or someone who is just the opposite but may have a
few of those skills. Knowing as an owner that this guy was a star on the baseball team, and a great
leader with a lot of skills required to be successful in the work force should help you determine who to
pick for this job. I would hope you would choose the guy who played team sports over the guy who
did not. I played baseball and soccer throughout all four years of high school, and I

A Comparison Of The One Hundred Years War Between England...
A war that lasted for 116 years, starting before the Black Plague, taking a break during the Plague, and
starting again after the Black death ended. A war that went through many kings and started because of
bitter rivalries. The One Hundred Years War between England and France was caused by Edward III s
claim to Philip the Fair s throne, England holding fiefdoms in France, and the Flemish textiles made
by the people of Flanders. Let s clear something up first. Edward III was the king of England and the
grandson of Philip the Fair. Philip the Fair was the king of France before he died. When he died, his
heir Charles IV became king of France, he died without an heir to the throne of France. Edward III
was next in line to be the ruler of France, but seeing as he was only fifteen and the king of England at

They make textiles which are then sold to the people of France. What are textiles? Textiles are a type
of cloth or woven fabric. This fabric or cloth is made from wool. The wool that the Flemish people use
to make the textiles is imported from England to France. The poor people of Flanders were caught up
in the dispute between England and France when the French want the Flemish to side with them
because the Flemish are French, but the English threaten to embargo the wool that the Flemish use to
make their textiles. This caused the Flemish to side with the English instead of the French in the fact
that they needed the wool to make money. The One Hundred Years war went through many kings,
went through the Black Death, was fought on French land, brought about Joan of Arc, and made bitter
relationships even more bitter. All of this was caused by three things that may seem minor but ended
up being major; An English boy s claim to the French throne, territories that were inhabited by the
English, and textiles made by the people who got caught in the middle of a tug of war; The

Health is a vital aspect of life, which is why it is important to have an access to different health care

the person with health concern meets with his or her doctor the illness might already aggravated;
consequently, the health care system through Telehealth provides a quicker and more efficient way on

there s nothing to worry about. Furthermore, Telehealth also made the monitoring on recovering
patients at their homes faster, the registered nurse in charge of monitoring the patient can guide the
patient in his recovery process through a streaming media. Any concerns that may arise in the

Arthur Dimmesdale Adultery
In the eyes of the Puritans, Minister Arthur Dimmesdale could commit no evil, his sin of adultery
concealed underneath his clothing and onto his heart with his fleeting sanity. Dimmesdale effectively
locked up his sin within himself, successfully fooling almost every soul. It would be too simple and
hardly true to conclude Dimmesdale is cowardly, just avoiding death. Dimmesdale continues on his
regular life on the outside, cutting off most ties to Hester and Pearl. Absorbing himself God s work,
Minister Dimmesdale uses his sin to deliver powerful sermons. The sermons indulged Dimmesdale
while he openly, though vaguely, publicly spoke about his sin, relieving some torture of not being able
to confess. Regardless, the townspeople would soon after compliment him on ... Show more content

instead to let his inner demon destroy him before they could destroy his town. If the town found out
their strongest foothold on their Puritan religion was a sinner, the townspeople s faith would fall apart
to leave the town s backbone broken. There is also a component of fear: fear of death, fear of losing

Title: Little Pine Tree s Awakening
Little Pine Tree was about three feet tall with bright green needles on all his branches. His favorite
color was red. He always wore a thick, red scarf around the trunk of his tree. He was a curious little
tree. He noticed the many different colors of the world.
(Insert image 1: Little Pine Tree with red scarf standing all alone)
He loved the bright blue sky, the fluffy white snow, the yellow sun, and the brown bark of the trees.
But most of all, he loved the colors of all the ornaments that the old pine trees wore. They were so
beautiful.
Some glittered and shimmered.
Some lit up like glowing lights.
And some just made him feel all happy and tingly inside when he looked at them.

Barack Obama Persuasive Speech Analysis
Before getting into how persuasive Barack Obama is, I d like to discuss how powerful the art of
persuasion is. In order to understand and analyze Barack Obama s power of persuasion, we need to
understand the fundamentals of persuasion and the likely outcome of utilizing those fundamentals.
The ultimate goal of persuasion, persuasive speeches being the medium in any president s case, is to
convince an audience to accept the speaker s point of view, to motivate an audience to act on that
point of view, and make them feel good about acting on the speaker s point of view ( The Goals of a
Persuasive Speech: Convincing, Actuation, and Stimulation Boundless Open Textbook ). Having an
audience to do all three of these things means the speaker has given a successful persuasive speech.
There are countless techniques one could use to achieve these goals. The first, and most prevalent in
any president s persuasive power, is the authority factor; People will follow the lead of creditable and
knowledgeable experts (Zipkin). With the 2016 primary elections coming up, one would hear
conversation this aspect all of the time. It comes with deciding if someone has enough experience to
be the leader of the free world. Obama used this technique in the 2008 primary elections against

persuasion. This can be said about how many more people voted for him in his second term. He had a

Description Of A Coat Of Arms
A coat of arms is a distinctive design that uses symbols to denote the elements significance. The coat
of arms typically forms a shield consisting of emblems that represent a significant person, family or
organization. My TBL group, The Brown Eyed Babies, created a coat of arms to denote the essential
qualities that a nurse must possess to provide the best care. We believe a nurse must possess these five
characteristics: endurance, wisdom, empathy, collaboration and communication. We used an owl as a
base to symbolize wisdom. Being a wise nurse not only includes the knowledge learned in class, but
also comprises the experience we gain through practice. Thus, wisdom is placed as the base because
without knowledge and experience, we cannot provide the care needed. The owl s wings represent the
quality, endurance, as it functions as the owl s core support. Endurance is an essential quality because
it comprises of not only the physical strength, but also the mental and emotional stability needed to
cope with the nursing profession. A heart is placed within the owl, in the middle, to represent empathy
and its central role in nursing care. Empathy is a significant trait needed by the nurse, in order to
maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients. There are also two little owls placed at the bottom
holding hands to represent collaboration. Being a good collaborator contributes to providing the best
care, as working with other nurses and healthcare professionals results in

The Security Industry And Its Effect On Its Functional...
In an essay of no less than 750 words, select an element of technology that you believe has
revolutionized the security industry and justify both its effect and its functional operation.
In the last twenty years, the internet has been much the foundation for all technological advances. It
has served as the basis of how humans and devices communicate with each other, and it has allowed
for the proliferation of converging and emerging technologies. Specifically, the security industry has
benefited from the creation of network products thus eliminating the need for human resources. As
inter connectivity is rapidly expanding and evolving, so to are emerging technological trends and their
applicability to the security industry. As it applies to the revolution of cyber technology, the security
industry may choose to view this element through three lenses internet of things (IoT), social
networking and ethical approaches.
The future of digital marketing and business opportunities will see the emergence of mobile, social,
cloud and information, identified as the Nexus of Forces (Gartner press release, 2014, para.7). These
enterprise groups will be looking at more innovative and creative ways in which to reach the
consumer. Mobile devices and social media will therefore become the likely gateways. Digital
business will focus on the convergence of people, things and business (Gartner press release, 2014).

Definition Of Coolness
It happens once again. The cliché never fails to rear its ugly head, as Plain Jain and her normal friends
watch the cool kids, with their nice clothes and fancy backpacks, roll down the block in a new BMW.
This scene seems to happen so often, and the result always appears to be the same: Plain Jain and her
normal friends are envious, and the cool kids roll along without a care in the world. Then again, if you
observe this scene more carefully, there is more content than most people would suspect. It is possible
that the roles are entirely reversed. The cool kids may be Plain Jain and her normal friends, and the
uncool kids may be stylish kids with loads of money. There is no official definition of cool that gives
legitimacy to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then again, that may not be true. The root of coolness can be the exact opposite of the general
definition. Coolness may begin with self rather than others. Coolness can mean being comfortable
with yourself, smiling in front of the mirror, or being completely satisfied with your identity. Everyone
praises the supposed cool kids who run the school or flaunt their cash, but the cool kids might be the
most uncool people. They do not have any reason to be defined as cool. There are no real world
elements that give legitimacy to their coolness. Others must define their coolness, but that coolness
immediately dissipates when those others are gone. The ignorant public does not know about the
many hours dressing for style, the shopping for expensive clothes, and the sitting behind closed doors.
These cool people are not cool in these moments. They are simply servants to the public, trying so
desperately to impress the public eye that will easily turn a blind eye for the next best piece of eye
candy. There is nothing cool about spending your life trying to impress everyone else when you have
yet to impress yourself. At the end of the day, behind all of that makeup, behind the nice cars, and
behind all of that false sense of glamour, what is really left? Just an empty shell of a person who has
given his or her self for a fading

A Separate Peace By John Knowles Essay
In A Separate Peace, a realistic fictional novel by John Knowles, World War 2 gradually encroaches
upon and finally dominates life at Devon. The War is an ever present focus, if not focus then presence,
that fell upon the students of Devon. That was the whole point wasn t it? Train hard in a boarding
school to prepare for war. The war impinged itself upon the school through the boys views, jargon,
and also was brought to the school. World War II infringed Devon through the boys views. This can be
found throughout the book, A Separate Peace. However, it can be expressed best by a quote found on
page 15. It states, We were not even Upper Middler exactly. For this was the Summer Session, just

groveling status of Lower Middlers to the near respectability of Upper Middlers. The class above,
seniors, draft bait, practically soldiers, rushed ahead of us toward the war. They were caught up in
accelerated courses and first aid programs and a physical hardening regimen, which included jumping
from this tree. We were still calmly, numbly reading Virgil and playing tag in the river farther
downstream. Until Finny thought of the tree. (Knowls) The representative quote above signifies how
the war has invaded the boys views in multiple ways. It shows this through the tree, instead of seeing
it as simply what it is, it was viewed as a training device. Additionally, being draft bait is

Government Over Regulation The United States has slowly conformed to the new ways of the Western
policy of democratic socialism in order to achieve equality in the eyes of the law, but with this the
necessary regulatory compliance of all citizens must be provided. If all American citizens do agree to
abide by the rules implemented by the United States, the freedom that they came here for would be

Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves (Tanner 1).
Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize winner, Chief Economist at Roosevelt Institute, best selling author, and
a professor at Columbia University explains the problems with the current economy in the United
States in his book Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy. He explains that even though the
one percent of the United States population is living a prosperous life, the remaining ninety nine
percent are being hurt by this reality (Stiglitz 8). From this it can be concluded that the regulations
currently being pressed upon the majority of the population are hurting more than benefitting.
Capitalism is defined as an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are
controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state (Oxford Dictionary 1). There has been
a longing to find a balance between this and socialism. The laissez faire is the commonly known
economic idea of a government refraining from interfering in the free market in order to allow the
people to control their own means of production and selling of goods. This seems to be ruined by the
over regulation of the economy by the government because much of the US economic benefits rely on
the free market. Also, capitalism allows for people to voluntarily take part in making their own wealth.
Without this, competition among businesses would be gone and

Similarities And Differences Between The Second Great...

awakenings had an impact on religion. There are some similarities and differences between the First
Great Awakening and the Second Great Awakening. The most obvious similarity between both of the
awakenings was that they are considered religious revivals. The preaching style during both of the
awakenings was more fire and brimstone, meaning the focus was sending a picture of Hell to their
audience. Preachers also connected with their audience on an emotional level. The First Awakening
had a Calvinist influence where sinfulness was inherent. Jonathan Edwards is one example where he

hypertension, family history, smoking history, high cholesterol, diabetes. Recent updated NICE

Executioners Way was not far from Alistair s shop and they arrived at the hut in question just as the
last rays of the sun left the sky and night proper began. It was a large two story house with bamboo
walls and a palm frond roof. No light shone through and of the windows and the place looked
completely abandoned. As they approached the front door they found it shut tight and locked.
Belgarion squatted in front of the lock and, producing a small tool set, attempted to pick the lock.
Unfortunately, with night close all around them, and the heat of the jungle making absolutely
everything slick with moisture, he simply could not flip the clasp. While Belgarion silently cursed at
the stubborn lock, Lucia went around back of the hut to search for another entrance. It was there she
came upon a hidden cellar door, free of any lock or bolt. Calling out to her companions, they
descended the stairs into a small dark ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The center of the eastern wall had folded back into itself leaving a dark hole to another room.
Tentatively, the party moved through the wall only to find another empty cellar room. Once again,
they spread out searching for another secret passage or clue as to the rooms purpose. This time three
engravings were found, each one identical to the first. Deducing the key to be the same for this room
as the last, Lucia, Belgarion, and Reginald each traced the symbols in different sequences until the
wall opened to the south. The party found three more room like this. Each one devoid of any
trappings, save the small engravings, and each one required the proper sequence to advance. As they
progressed, Drax couldn t help but notice it seemed to be getting cooler. While it was certainly a
welcome change from the suffocating jungle heat, the chill didn t feel entirely natural. Draxes scales
began to tingle and he sensed they were approaching something completely unholy as the final wall

Doctor Of Osteopathy Degree
I aim to pursue a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic
Medicine. But the question that may arise is why this school? Why choose to pursue a D.O. degree
instead of an M.D. degree? I prefer to study for the former, as it teaches students to treat a patient as a
whole person, rather than isolate a particular area and treat that alone. It teaches to take into account
all factors, all bodily systems, into one, when looking at a patient. I personally believe that is a key
when it comes to diagnosis and treatment. Having been established one hundred and ten years ago,
PCOM is one of the finest institutions of its kind, educating osteopathic physicians and specialists.

The Colonies Of The United States Essay
In the 1607, the Virginia Company sent three ships over to America in search of finding gold and
silver. This first permanent settlement, Jamestown, was founded in the Chesapeake Bay region. After
the land had failed to produce gold or silver, the Virginia Company began to sell the land for property
which started the colonization of what is to start the spark of the thirteen colonies. Great Britain began
to colonize in the present day United States of America by creating the Thirteen Colonies. The
colonies, which can be divided into three separate regions: Northern, Middle, and Southern, have been
formed by different groups of people who have helped to shape the region which they belong to.
Colonist came over in search of many opportunities. Opportunities to find new jobs and religious
freedom gave the colonist hope while travelling across the Atlantic. The cultural blend that made up
the colonies led to different colonies to form amongst them. The geographical characteristics of the
colonial regions helped shape what the colony is most beneficial for. The northern colonies consist of
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. The northern region had poor soil
and a harsh climate. The cold climate helped prevent the spread deadly diseases from infecting the
people.
The middle region of the colonies consisted of New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.
These colonies had a more temperate climate which benefited them to have a longer growing

One of the most complex systems that researchers are continuously demand to understand is the
human brain. The human brain consists of billions of nerve cells or neurons connected via electrical
and chemical activities (NeuroPro). In the early 20th century, German physiologist and psychiatrist
named Hans Berger was the first to record these electrical activities in the brain ... Show more content

The picked up electrical signals from the scalp is then sent to the amplifiers that is used to reduce
noises in the signals (Teplan, 2002). After that, the signals will be translated from analog into digital
form precisely in a converter for which the acquired data are then stored and presented in the personal
computer (Teplan, 2002).
According to Roche and Dockree (2011), once the signal has been recorded, the researcher might use
two main approaches available namely event related potentials (ERPs) and Spectral Analysis to further
analyze the signal from brain neuronal activity. Event Related Potentials (ERPs) analyze the changes
of the continuous electrical activity in the brain caused by a cognitive, motor or perceptual event that
could determine what regions of brain are activated at a given time (Roche Dockree, 2011). Whereas
Spectral Analysis shows the correlation between electrophysiological and mental activity through
decomposing brain rhythms into different frequency bands that can be measured during times when
the persons are alert and receptive (Roche Dockree, 2011).
Although, there are different methods in examining the brain neuronal activity such as MRI, MEG and
CT, the EEG is known to be a comprehensive and effective brain imaging technique (Michel Murray,
2012). The EEG is categorized as a functional imaging method because it has the

Essay On Voter Turnout
Voting constitutes the backbone of Democracy
Voter Turnouts in Canada: Restoring a Civic Duty
Grant Macewan University
December 6th 2011
Political Science 101
Term Paper
In a democratic system it is vital that citizens engage in their civic duty of voting; only then can a
proper governing body be chosen to represent the will of the majority. Abraham Lincoln got to the
core of democracy when he stated, the government of the people, by the people and for the people. In
the last 50 years of Canadian history we have begun to see a decline in voter turnout; ranging from
80% of citizens voting in 1962, gradually dwindling to 59.1% in the year 2008 (Dickerson, Flanagan
amp; O Neill, 2010). It is important to understand why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the greatest factors in deciding which Member of Parliament many voters will trust with
representing them is the level of confidence they have in the political leader. Confidence is the greatest
of all voter assets for it requires knowledge of the leader s platform, and the platform of the
opposition.
Political scientists have made tremendous efforts in discovering what factors influence the voting
turnouts. Irrefutably within any country, older citizens and those with higher education and income are
more likely to participate in elections; this possibly explains the partisanship, a method of the ill
informed, displayed along the east coast, for the educational requirements attributed to these provinces
are less than the Canadian national average (Garnier , 2006). When an election has closely contested
parties there is a higher voter turnout, for citizens believe that their votes will make more of a
difference. In Canada it has been proven that citizens are more likely to vote in national elections than
in municipal elections; municipal elections typically garner less than 50% of the voting populace s
support, while national elections have never experienced less than a 60% turnout (Heard, 2011).
Proportional representation has been associated with higher voter turnouts; as opposed to Single
member plurality systems, the system used in Canada, where voters feel their efforts to make a
difference are futile due to the First

Love s Labour s Lost
Love s Labour s Lost
The Elizabethans thought of it merely as a wittie and pleasant comedie ; Samuel Johnson remarked
that all the editors have concurred to censure [it] ; and William Hazlitt opined, If we were to part with
any of the author s comedies, it should be this. It was not until well into the twentieth century that
Love s Labour s Lost really came into its own, and this fact alone may be enough to make a case for it
as Shakespeare s most forward looking play. It is its ending in particular, an unexpectedly grim
conclusion in which nothing is actually concluded, that has appealed to modern sensibilities and made
Love s Labour s Lost the Shakespeare play for the twentieth century. Trevor Nunn makes this point
emphatically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nunn s new production, however, breaks this tradition, radically altering the effect envisioned by
Shakespeare with the addition of a mere 30 seconds or so of extra textual material at the beginning.
John Peter s description perfectly captures the feeling of the opening moments: We are in a forest
clearing. The darkened Olivier stage is dominated by a bare beech, huge and ancient. Soldiers rush on.
Explosions, gunfire. This is the first world war. An officer...gets badly wounded. But this is Love s
Labour s Lost, is it not? A comedy, surely? This is indeed the reaction of the audience as Marcadé,
identifiable by his traditional all black costume, comes onstage (in the text, his first and only
appearance is his surprise entrance at the end) and says portentously, The words of Mercury are harsh
after the songs of Apollo (in the text, this line is also at the end and is Armado s). A kneeling officer
looks soulfully off into space, and the scene changes: foliage appears on the tree, the lighting comes
up to suggest dappled sunlight, merry looking people in Edwardian costume cross the stage, and the
first scene in the text finally begins, revealing the kneeling officer to be Berowne and Shakespeare s
entire play to be a flashback.
This added and adapted prologue, however brief, is quite significant: it lets the audience know from
the very start that all will not be well at the end, thus covering the entire rest of the play with a cloud

Stop And Frisk Research
Racial Discrimination of Stop and Frisk in the NYPD
The New York City Police Department stop and frisk impacts thousands of peoples lives everyday,
and unfortunately most of the cases involve African American and Hispanic Males, which shows
racism is still present in the world we live in today. Prior to speaking about a stop and frisk, one must
have general knowledge about what it is and all of its supporting parts. A Stop and frisk occurs when
an officer of the law temporarily detains an individual or group of people on the street to question
them about the reason or reasons in which they were stopped, and possibly also frisking or searching
them for the safety of the officers and the detainees as well. A stop may end with someone being
arrested or given a ticket if evidence of a crime being committed comes to light. A stop and frisk is a
concise, non invasive, police stop of a suspect(Cornell University Law School, 2014). ... Show more

Probable cause means that an officer may not stop a person without having a reasonable suspicion that
the individual has, is about to, or will commit a crime in the future. It protects one from having their
fourth amendment rights being abused by these officers who do not follow protocol and conduct
unlawful searches and seizures as stated in the U.S Constitution. The only time that frisking someone
can be done without legal issues is when the officer has a reason to believe that the person is a threat
to the officers, other bystanders, themselves and/ or have a weapon. The paper will expand on the
proper policies and procedures of a stop and frisk, along with how racial discrimination plays a huge
role in the unlawful stop and frisks being conducted by The New York Police Department, New York

I Am The Cheese Theme Essay
Themes and the Stories of Robert Cormier In the stories we enjoy today the protagonist always comes
out on top. But in most of one writers novels the protagonists never win. Death, people against nature,
good and evil, friendships, relationships, and understanding divinity are some of the most common
themes in stories today. However Robert Cormier plays his card a different way when it comes to
writing novels and stories. Violence, Manipulation, and Fear are his most noticeable differences in
themes. Born January 17, 1925 Robert Cormier for most of his life was a journalist. When it came to
themes in his stories he was straight forward with what it was. As a small town writer Cormier most of

The main character, Anthony a journalist standing up for his beliefs, is caught between himself and the
identities of three different organizations who use fear as a tool to control the Delmontes/Farmers.
Throughout the story Adam repeats the phrase, I look over my shoulder but there s no one following
(Shmoop). A young teenage boy carrying a tiny package, at first it sounds like Adam is becoming
paranoid and losing sight of reality but as the novel progresses it becomes clear that he is living in fear
for a reason (Cheese, Plot 1 8). Adams fear never subsides throughout the novel. And always, Adam,
there are the Never Knows. Never knowing who can be trusted. Never knowing who that stranger in
town might be. [...] Because you never know (Shmoop). Adams mother reminds him that it is the
things that cannot be seen or defeated that are the most frightening to encounter. Again Adam has a lot
of fears, Like, is it possible to be claustrophobic and yet fear open spaces, too (Shmoop)? When Adam
is out in the open of New England alone we see his fear of open space and then when he is in a phone
booth later. Just with these two fears it would seem like he is always living in fear (Cheese,

Patient Receiving Therapy Case Study Paper
For prevention, whether primary or tertiary, patients should be instructed to take 1000 mg (men) or
1200 mg (women) of calcium daily along with 800 1000 IU of vitamin D daily and participate in
regular weight bearing and muscle strengthening exercises. They should also be counseled to quit
smoking and avoid excessive alcohol intake. M.L. is following all of these recommendations with the
exception of inconsistent use of calcium supplements.
Regarding monitoring, those patients already diagnosed with osteoporosis should have BMD testing

treatment. According to Cosman et al. (2014), some of the recommended pharmacological treatments

therapy. M.L. is currently on the bisphosphonate alendronate and may be considered for a once yearly
dose of zoledronic acid (Reclast), also a bisphosphonate. Due to the family history of breast cancer in
her mother, estrogen replacement was not considered, but as noted in the pharmacology section,
raloxifene could be considered for M.L. if treatment with bisphosphonates was ineffective. There is no
definitive recommendation for the length of treatment. It should be individualized based on risk
factors and patient

Family Culture In Powder By Tobias Wolff
Culture is a product of the human mind and it is defined through language. The language and culture
related because language shows an expression of the culture. Therefore, when we learn language, we
also need to learn about the culture of it. This paper aims to discuss a cultural point like family life and
relationship in the story Powder by Tobias Wolff and compare it with the one similar to that of our
culture.
We know that not all of the children can have a good family, live with their parents, smile and laugh
together. Every family has their own problems and sometimes the children have to live separate with
their father or their mother. However, it is not a bad life if there is still a relationship among the
member of a family like in the story Powder by Tobias Wolff which tells about the relationship
between father and son with broken home situations. This story has some cultural points of family life
and relationship that will be explained including young adulthood, family roles, promptness, future
time.
The first cultural point is young adulthood. In this story, we know that the father try to pass the road

  • 3. What Is My Most Important Summer Essay My Most Important Summer Some people like to stay in control of their life and avoid any amount of extraordinary risk to protect their self disclosure. Other people don t shy away from challenges as they are confident that certain obstacles are nothing more than just another thing standing in their way from living life to the fullest extent. Through personal experience, I ve realized that personal comfort is nothing more than a variety of fears that limit me from challenging myself. One balmy summer morning my friends convinced me to come swim in Grapevine Lake, which would be very enticing if I was a strong swimmer or had any swimming experience whatsoever. I was a fairly reserved person, and most of the time the idea of risk or failure decided whether or not I would partake in certain activities. In contrast, my two friends, Austin and Nick, always were willing to take risks and defy their natural comfort, if they even had any. I accepted their request, although there was doubt in the back of my mind. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never felt anything like it; the trajectory had me flying through the air for longer than I expected. A surge of adrenaline pulsed through my body, bringing a new sense of life to me. The scorching heat went away as gravity pulled my body toward the water, bringing me a pleasant breeze through my fall. Then, I finally hit the water. I didn t stick a solid landing, as I went head first into the water. I panicked and opened my eyes under the murky water, only to see nothing but dirt and sediments float around me. I kept sinking and saw a monstrous fish swim right in front of my face. At that very moment, my body went into overdrive, and I managed to project myself back up to the ... • 4. The Benefits Of Methamphetamine Methamphetamine is a highly addictive central nervous stimulant that induces the release of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Its side effects include increased alertness, increased activity, high blood pressure, decreased appetite, euphoria, psychosis, and severe dental disease (Ravenel et al. 229). In 1919 methamphetamine was synthesized for the first time and was utilized for treatment of attention deficit disorder, to enhance physical performance, anorectic effects, increase wakefulness, and as a general mood enhancer (Padilla and Ritter 148). The manufacturing of methamphetamine became strictly regulated by The Controlled Substance Act of 1970, however, this didn t stop the manufacturing of meth on the streets using simple and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is vital to determine current use of methamphetamine and refer the patient to a rehabilitation center before any elective treatment. Meth users may be hesitant to admit drug usage, so dental professionals should express concern for the state of their oral health while being nonjudgmental in their questioning. Reviewing basic oral hygiene and the etiology of periodontal disease with the patient is recommended. Restorations with conventional means in patients who will continue to use meth is contradictory as the decay will recur underneath the material. Instead, Kelsch recommends sealing the area with fluoride and a xylitol releasing fluoride varnish and/or glass ionomer sealant and surface protectant which will still benefit the patient during active drug use (24). Stimulation of saliva can be achieved by prescribing medications to increase saliva flow such as pilocarpine or cevimeline, as well as advising the patient to chew sugarless gum. A neutral fluoride is recommended to aid in the remineralization of tooth structure and buffering the oral pH (Goodchild and Donaldson 587). Angular chelitis and oral thrush may be treated with a fifty fifty mixture of Benadryl and Kaopeptate, which should offer some pain relief and encourage the healing process (Kelsch 25). Unfortunately, in the advanced stages of meth mouth, the only treatment may be extraction. There are treatment modifications that should ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. They Call Him Mr. Gacy Essay There are numerous portraits, perspectives, and analyses of the life and deeds of American serial killer John Wayne Gacy, who is thought to have sexually assaulted and murdered 32 boys between 1976 and his arrest in December 1978 (Cahill, 1978; Gacy, 1989). This profile of Gacy compiles a birth to death chronology of events and activities that may lend insight to the personality of a habitual liar, model citizen, and serial murderer. Born to Marion Elaine Robinson Gacy and John Hanely Gacy on St. Patrick s Day in 1942, John Wayne Gacy was the second of three children. The alcoholic Gacy, Sr. was both physically and verbally abusive towards the entire family. His special interest in John, Jr. was the litany that he was dumb and ... Shortly after his wedding John?s father in law offered him a job. John and his new wife then moved to Iowa. John was a tireless worker, but maintained an active community involvement through the Jaycees. During this period, John and his wife invited employees to their home for drinks and television. Hidden in the game room were homosexual videos, alcohol, and marijuana. One particular visit to their home, John approached employee Westphal to solicit a blowjob. Although Westphal declined the offer, John would joke with him that if he ever caught Westphal with his wife, he would owe John that blowjob. During a subsequent visit, Westphal became inebriated at John?s house and stayed the night in the guest room. After Westphal began to doze off, Marilynn entered the room and joined Westphal in bed. John then entered the room to remind Westphal of his obligation. Fearing the loss of his job, Westphal fulfilled John?s desires. After this incident rumors of John?s sexual preferences began to spread. John?s interests in young boys increased and in the spring of 1968 he was indicted by a grand jury in Black Hawk County for allegedly committing sodomy with a teenage boy named Mark Miller. • 6. The On The House Of Medici By looking at the political history of major world powers, we are clearly aware of the events of legitimation crises: the House of Medici was confronted by the people under the influence of religious Savonarola; American Civil War emerged from a conflict of ideologies of the North and the South; Southeast Asian countries went through unsuccessful and even destructive decolonization; Communist China was challenged by large scale protests after the East European upheaval. It is definitely a serious task for rulers to maintain a good standing as not to be overthrown, but various sources of crises made it hard for the authority to predict outcomes and plot countermeasures. The Prince discusses the charm of pure princely power, without the addition of morality; Huntington introduces the political gap caused by modernization; Nisbet warns the public of an increasingly more centralized authority; De Jasay investigates the nature of repression and consent. The research findings of the aforementioned authors elicit me to better comprehend potential priorities of governments. 1)A government may push forward the process of institutionalization in line with economic development. 2)A government need to understand the core interests of people to gain consent. 3)A government should be decisive and flexible when encountering adversaries. Huntington, in his work, equates modernity with stability and modernization with chaos. He argues that during the process of modernization, drastic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Reaction To The Stamp Act Essay Reactions To The Stamp Act The Stamp act was a law passed by the British parliament in 1765. It was a law that said every piece of paper had to have a stamp. England would use the money from the stamps to help pay for the recently concluded French and Indian War because England was in a great deal of debt. People in the colonies thought of themselves as equal to the people in England, but the people in Britain didn t agree. So when the British tried to force a tax on them, the colonists realized the truth. This sparked things in the colonies such as riots and the burning of supporters houses. But, this strategy didn t work that well because they would do this in their private time, so nobody knew about it. These more peaceful routes were largely ignored by people in Britain. The other reaction to the British Parliament trying to pass the Stamp Act has by the commoners, or people without wealth. They reacted with large scale riots and protests. They would burn down people s houses that supported the Stamp Act. They even did a hanging in effigy (which is when you hang something in place of a person that doesn t exist or you can t hang at that time) to the Tax Man . Epicurus Happiness According to Epicurus, the purpose of life is attaining happiness since, if [happiness] be present, we have everything, and, if [happiness] be absent, all our actions are directed towards attaining it. Although that statement is undoubtedly true, people use different ways for finding happiness. Epicurus believes that the best guideline towards happiness is pursuing pleasure, which is the alpha and omega of a blessed life , and avoiding pain. That is why many people describe his approach as very hedonistic. • 13. Differences Between The Help Book And Movie The Help, Kathryn Stockett s novel and film discuss the story of African American maids working in white Southern homes for the upper class white people during the early 1960 s in Jackson, Mississippi. There are multiple dissimilarities between the novel, The Help and the film, The Help . Even though the administrator managed to keep the same storyline, there still are not as many similarities as differences in the film and novel. To begin with, the director had kept many of the characters appearances and personalities the same in the film as in the novel. Some disparities were that in the novel Skeeter is hefty and tall, but the movie has her lean and average height. Hilly is portrayed in the book as an dark haired woman, whose weight enlarged throughout the ending of book, but in the film, she is very thin and stays that way throughout the whole film. Also in the film, Skeeter s maid Constantine, is smaller than Skeeter although in the book it says that Constantine is the only person who made Skeeter feel tiny and short. Lastly, Constantine s daughter in the movie Rachel, is an African American, but in the novel, it says she may have a white daughter or even no daughter. In the book, the Skeeter s family finds out Constantine is dead when sending a personal check to her and her daughter sends it back saying she has passed away. • 14. History of the Traditional School Calendar Essay History of the Traditional School Calendar The American educational system is based on the traditional, nine month school calendar, which has been in place for over a century. Originally, the United States was an agrarian society. The majority of Americans lived on farms. People made most of the items that they needed, and with little trade necessary, there was no need for schooling (McLain, 1973). However, as people branched out into neighboring areas, they needed to learn new skills, such as basic arithmetic to price items, measure land, and more (McLain, 1973). As a result, it became the responsibility of those who were less needed on the farm or in the factory to acquire knowledge for the family (McLain, 1973). Accordingly, ... Year round education is described as a calendar modification that requires students to begin school earlier and end later than normal, with the lost summer vacation redistributed in blocks throughout the year (Glines, 2002, 2698). It is important to note that year round schools have the same number of days in a calendar year as does the traditional school year. However, the days are distributed throughout the year. Year round schools differ from traditional schools in a variety of ways. Single Track Calendar In order to accommodate the year round calendar, there are several forms of year round education. The first form follows a single track calendar. This is the most popular type of calendar (Shields, 2000). A single track year is usually implemented to provide a more balanced and enriched education program or to accommodate the special scheduling needs of a community (Glines, 2002, 2699). A single track calendar takes on a 45/15 design. This is where students go to school for forty five days in a row, and then have a fifteen day break. It is a continuous cycle. Schools usually begin in early August, and follow this pattern four times to complete the school year (Glines, 2002). The three week break in between is called an intersession. • 17. Copper Carbonate Lab Report The reaction characteristics of basic copper carbonate 〖mCuCO〗_3⋅n〖Cu(OH)〗_2 were observed by changing the reaction mole ratio. The reaction mole ratio of sodium carbonate to copper chloride (II) was controlled from 1.08 to 1.68. Fig. 1 shows the XRD patterns of copper carbonate powder. At a reaction ratio of 1.08, paratacamite (Cu_2 Cl(OH)_3 ), beside alkali copper carbonate, was formed because of incomplete reaction at a copper content of 53.9 wt%. Lack of sodium carbonate may cause incomplete reaction with copper chloride (II) because of low pH (6.0) of the solution [12]. The copper content according to the reaction mole ratio were 57.7, 50.5, 58.8, 59.3, and 59.8 wt% at the reaction mole ratios of 1.20, 1.32, 1.44, 1.56, and 1.68, respectively. ... In the case of low reaction ratio of sodium carbonate, m, the stoichiometric coefficients of CuCO3, is higher than n, the stoichiometric coefficient of Cu(OH)2, so that the amount of CuCO3 is generated is more than that of Cu(OH)2. With increasing reaction mole ratio of sodium carbonate, m is lower than n so that the generation rate of CuCO_3 is lower than that of Cu〖(OH)〗 _2. A hero is characterized as someone that is a leader to his people, they reflect societal views, and yet they have a major flaw that often causes their downfall. During the 20th century a revolutionary man rose from his years of exile to lead the Bolshevik party into power, his name, Vladimir Lenin. Lenin stands as a prime example of a leader that reflects Russia s social values, and as a flaw for his outspoken nature suffers from a near death assassination. Vladimir Lenin, like Achilles, looked for ways that benefited him in order to gain power, he was an aggressive man that had a certain set of beliefs that led to become a Marxist. Lenin enrolled in the Kazan University, only to be expelled within his first term for participating in a student demonstration. During his time from his studies, Lenin immersed himself in revolutionary politics, taking a large interest in Karl Marx s writings, this later played a large influence during his time of power. Lenin in many cases is similar to Achilles, a fictional warrior from the Iliad. In book 22, Priam compares Achilles to Orion s dog, to Greeks this is a bad omen. Priam then turns to his son, who stands outside the gates of Troy, and tells him this, He is more powerful by far than you, and pitiless (143, bk 22, lines 47 48). Agency in sustaining an engaged lifestyle does not just derive from naive optimism (e.g., the little engine that could ), but rather from a whole constellation of resources crafted over the life span that puts force behind ones sense of agency (e.g., Infurna, Gerstorf, Ram, Schupp, amp; Wagner, 2011). Cognitive capacity does not come for free. By some estimates, proficiency in a substantive skill requires about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice (Ericsson, Krampe, Tesch Römer, 1993; Gladwell, 2008). The normalization of optimal life span cognitive development, then, will ultimately derive from cultural and social institutions (e.g., health care, educational resources) that position individuals for effective engagement in experiences and activities that nurture cognition on a large scale over extended time. In the pages that follow, we consider the factors that have potential to contribute to cognitive resilience through the life span. The 10,000 hour rule implies that not all skills will be developed to an equal extent and that cognitive resilience must entail selectivity in what is optimized, as well as compensatory strategies for managing activities that depend on nonoptimized skills. Because plasticity decreases with age, the 10,000 hour rule might be expected to become something like a 15,000 hour rule for new skills developed in late life. However, the 10,000 hour rule also implies that by mid to later adulthood, investment in skill development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wasted Time In High School Emily Sellers Composition 1301 332 Mrs. Kinkead 24 September 2017 Wasted time in High School Public high schools tend to waste a lot of time in class doing things that aren t related to school at all. It has been reported that in many schools, teachers make students do chores for them for extra credit points, while others are learning new things. Jay Mathews wrote A startling waste of precious classroom time, published in 2014 in the Washington Post, and he argues that so much time is wasted in low income schools due to teachers and it makes it very difficult for students to learn in that environment. Mathews begins to establish pathos by stating the names of two girls that go to Compton High School and want to learn, but their school is unable to give them the education they desire. Mathews established ethos a little later in his article by stating facts about programs he has encountered with inner city schools; however, toward the end of his article, he uses facts to establish logos, which is the appeal of logic, while stating that schools have been sued because low income students have not been given the right education. Mathews explains that Wasting time is common in the nation s low income schools. Class schedules can be a mess at the beginning of the year, forcing students to wait days in the library for their assignments (Mathews). People do not realize what it takes to play a team sport, it takes team work, work ethic, mental strength, I can go on and on about what you need to be able to succeed in a sport. Just having those skills listed above can help you prepare for the career field you will be going in. Think about having a job, there are a lot of skills you need to possess in order to succeed in that career field. It is much like playing a team sport; you need to be able to use those same skills you used when you played a team sport to become successful in the work force. These are just some of the reasons why playing a team sport will help you land that big job in the work force. Let s say you are a owner for a huge business, and you had to fire someone for whatever reason, when you go to hire that new candidate, which one would you choose; a guy who is very friendly, outgoing, great communication skills, and a great leader, or someone who is just the opposite but may have a few of those skills. Knowing as an owner that this guy was a star on the baseball team, and a great leader with a lot of skills required to be successful in the work force should help you determine who to pick for this job. A war that lasted for 116 years, starting before the Black Plague, taking a break during the Plague, and starting again after the Black death ended. A war that went through many kings and started because of bitter rivalries. The One Hundred Years War between England and France was caused by Edward III s claim to Philip the Fair s throne, England holding fiefdoms in France, and the Flemish textiles made by the people of Flanders. In order to understand and analyze Barack Obama s power of persuasion, we need to understand the fundamentals of persuasion and the likely outcome of utilizing those fundamentals. The ultimate goal of persuasion, persuasive speeches being the medium in any president s case, is to convince an audience to accept the speaker s point of view, to motivate an audience to act on that point of view, and make them feel good about acting on the speaker s point of view ( The Goals of a Persuasive Speech: Convincing, Actuation, and Stimulation Boundless Open Textbook ). • 31. Description Of A Coat Of Arms A coat of arms is a distinctive design that uses symbols to denote the elements significance. The coat of arms typically forms a shield consisting of emblems that represent a significant person, family or organization. My TBL group, The Brown Eyed Babies, created a coat of arms to denote the essential qualities that a nurse must possess to provide the best care. We believe a nurse must possess these five characteristics: endurance, wisdom, empathy, collaboration and communication. We used an owl as a base to symbolize wisdom. Being a wise nurse not only includes the knowledge learned in class, but also comprises the experience we gain through practice. Thus, wisdom is placed as the base because without knowledge and experience, we cannot provide the care needed. The owl s wings represent the quality, endurance, as it functions as the owl s core support. Endurance is an essential quality because it comprises of not only the physical strength, but also the mental and emotional stability needed to cope with the nursing profession. A heart is placed within the owl, in the middle, to represent empathy and its central role in nursing care. Empathy is a significant trait needed by the nurse, in order to maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients. The class above, seniors, draft bait, practically soldiers, rushed ahead of us toward the war. They were caught up in accelerated courses and first aid programs and a physical hardening regimen, which included jumping from this tree. We were still calmly, numbly reading Virgil and playing tag in the river farther downstream. Until Finny thought of the tree. Government Over Regulation Of The United States Camille Nelson Kline Honors English 10 10 April 2017 Government Over Regulation The United States has slowly conformed to the new ways of the Western policy of democratic socialism in order to achieve equality in the eyes of the law, but with this the necessary regulatory compliance of all citizens must be provided. If all American citizens do agree to abide by the rules implemented by the United States, the freedom that they came here for would be nonexistent, and they would no longer have the ability to truly live the infamous American dream . The economy is also beginning to move away from the capitalist ways and move toward an ideology of equality among the wealth and incomes of the people, and the only apparent way to achieve ... Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize winner, Chief Economist at Roosevelt Institute, best selling author, and a professor at Columbia University explains the problems with the current economy in the United States in his book Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy. He explains that even though the one percent of the United States population is living a prosperous life, the remaining ninety nine percent are being hurt by this reality (Stiglitz 8). From this it can be concluded that the regulations currently being pressed upon the majority of the population are hurting more than benefitting. Capitalism is defined as an economic and political system in which a country s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state (Oxford Dictionary 1). There has been a longing to find a balance between this and socialism. The laissez faire is the commonly known economic idea of a government refraining from interfering in the free market in order to allow the people to control their own means of production and selling of goods. This seems to be ruined by the over regulation of the economy by the government because much of the US economic benefits rely on the free market. Also, capitalism allows for people to voluntarily take part in making their own wealth. Without this, competition among businesses would be gone and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are some similarities and differences between the First Great Awakening and the Second Great Awakening. The most obvious similarity between both of the awakenings was that they are considered religious revivals. The preaching style during both of the awakenings was more fire and brimstone, meaning the focus was sending a picture of Hell to their audience. Preachers also connected with their audience on an emotional level. The First Awakening had a Calvinist influence where sinfulness was inherent. Telehealth Case Summary Scenario 18 1 Telehealth is the use of telecommunications technologies for the provision of long distance clinical health care, patient and professional education, and health administration (Guido, 2014). Chest pain is one of the most common causes for referral to emergency departments (ED), accounting for several million visits annually (Goodacre et al., 2005). In the given scenario, the call was made by the wife of the patient reporting complains of chest pain. It was a large two story house with bamboo walls and a palm frond roof. No light shone through and of the windows and the place looked completely abandoned. According to Roche and Dockree (2011), once the signal has been recorded, the researcher might use two main approaches available namely event related potentials (ERPs) and Spectral Analysis to further analyze the signal from brain neuronal activity. Event Related Potentials (ERPs) analyze the changes of the continuous electrical activity in the brain caused by a cognitive, motor or perceptual event that could determine what regions of brain are activated at a given time (Roche Dockree, 2011). Whereas Spectral Analysis shows the correlation between electrophysiological and mental activity through decomposing brain rhythms into different frequency bands that can be measured during times when the persons are alert and receptive (Roche Dockree, 2011). Abraham Lincoln got to the core of democracy when he stated, the government of the people, by the people and for the people. In the last 50 years of Canadian history we have begun to see a decline in voter turnout; ranging from 80% of citizens voting in 1962, gradually dwindling to 59.1% in the year 2008 (Dickerson, Flanagan amp; O Neill, 2010). One of the greatest factors in deciding which Member of Parliament many voters will trust with representing them is the level of confidence they have in the political leader. Confidence is the greatest of all voter assets for it requires knowledge of the leader s platform, and the platform of the opposition. Political scientists have made tremendous efforts in discovering what factors influence the voting turnouts. Irrefutably within any country, older citizens and those with higher education and income are more likely to participate in elections; this possibly explains the partisanship, a method of the ill informed, displayed along the east coast, for the educational requirements attributed to these provinces are less than the Canadian national average (Garnier , 2006). When an election has closely contested parties there is a higher voter turnout, for citizens believe that their votes will make more of a difference. In Canada it has been proven that citizens are more likely to vote in national elections than in municipal elections; municipal elections typically garner less than 50% of the voting populace s support, while national elections have never experienced less than a 60% turnout (Heard, 2011). Proportional representation has been associated with higher voter turnouts; as opposed to Single member plurality systems, the system used in Canada, where voters feel their efforts to make a difference are futile due to the First ... It was not until well into the twentieth century that Love s Labour s Lost really came into its own, and this fact alone may be enough to make a case for it as Shakespeare s most forward looking play. John Peter s description perfectly captures the feeling of the opening moments: We are in a forest clearing. The darkened Olivier stage is dominated by a bare beech, huge and ancient. Soldiers rush on. Explosions, gunfire. This is the first world war. An officer...gets badly wounded. But this is Love s Labour s Lost, is it not? A comedy, surely? This is indeed the reaction of the audience as Marcadé, identifiable by his traditional all black costume, comes onstage (in the text, his first and only appearance is his surprise entrance at the end) and says portentously, The words of Mercury are harsh after the songs of Apollo (in the text, this line is also at the end and is Armado s). A kneeling officer looks soulfully off into space, and the scene changes: foliage appears on the tree, the lighting comes up to suggest dappled sunlight, merry looking people in Edwardian costume cross the stage, and the first scene in the text finally begins, revealing the kneeling officer to be Berowne and Shakespeare s entire play to be a flashback.
