This document discusses the evaluation of GIS-based erosion and deposition modeling at military installations. Soil erosion on training facilities is caused by vehicles, munitions, and construction, and costs money to repair. Two models are described: USLE3D considers detachment capacity while SED considers transport capacity, resulting in erosion and deposition. The SED model was applied to Ft. Hood using DEM, land cover, and other data. Results were mixed when compared to field data, showing issues with input data resolution and estimation. Improved high resolution data from drones and lidar could help calibrate and validate erosion models at military sites.
