1. Power is generated at the 11kV level in alternators and stepped up to 132kV for primary transmission via overhead lines to the outskirts of cities. 2. At receiving stations, the voltage is stepped down to 33kV for secondary transmission via overhead lines to substations located strategically within cities. 3. At substations, voltage is stepped down to 11kV for primary distribution along roadsides, and then to 400V at distribution substations for secondary distribution to local consumer areas.
