IntroductionIn your introduction, include the following information:Where is DNA found in a cell.A detailed description of the structure of DNA. The function of DNAThe hypothesis for the experiment using the enzyme.
Methods & MaterialsWrite your procedure in a paragraph, do not use numbered steps. When it comes time to give instructions for the three options of additions, after the extraction buffer, then and only then can you use numbered steps. For example: After the extraction buffer was added, there were three variations of the experiment: a) no additional substances were added; b) 5mL of enzymes were added; c) 5mL of water was added.
ResultsSince we NEVER put raw data in a lab report, your results section will be very short. A few sentences stating the averages of the first experiment (4 samples) and the averages of the second experiment will be sufficient.
DiscussionThis will be the bulk of your lab report. You should include: PatternsThings that were unexpectedSources of errorIn addition, answer these questions: How would you redesign this experiment? What additional things do you need to control?ConclusionRestate your hypothesisDid you find support for your hypothesis.
Bibliography You need to include at least one source, other than class notes in your introduction. You can NOT just say “wikipedia.”You need to write the entire url and the date that you visited the webpage.
Formatting your lab reportYour name and the date should be at the top of the first page.Headings (introduction etc) should be centeredPlease use 1.5 spacing, this will make it easier for me to write comments.
