Statement of Intent
(double page spread)
WHAT layout will you be using for
your Double Page Spread and WHY?
• For my double page spread I
  will be using a landscape
canvas. I will also be using
  typical conventions seen in
  magazines. Such as
  headlines, captions, folio
, deck, by line, etc. The reason
why I will be using these
  magazine components is
  because these are elements
  that are always seen double
  page spreads within
  magazines.
WHAT principal components of a magazine
layout will you be using in the construction
of your Double Page Spread and WHY?
• My principle
  components for my DPS
  will be pull-out-quote,
  drop cap and a caption
for my image. I will use
  these elements because
  they are typical
  magazine conventions.
WHAT type of images, graphics will you
be using to make your Double Page Spread
appeal your target audience and WHY?
• I will be using images that are
related to the article in my DPS.
The type of graphics that will be
included in my DPS are boxes,
borders and lines. I will be
  including these graphics to
  section, separate and align my
text. This will make my magazine
look more neat and organised to
  my audience.
WHAT image/images will you be using for
your Double Page Spread and WHY will
it/they appeal to your potential target
                audience?
• The image I will be using for my double page spread
will be a single image of a grime artist/s. My image
will be slightly modified in Photoshop enhancing
the image and maybe concealing any flaws. This will
represent a perfect image but I will make sure that
it doesn't come across too deceiving. By modifying
my image it will appeal to my target audience as
they will see a built up persona of someone they
may aspire to be like. The body language of the
model will be giving direct eye contact with the
reader, use of non-verbal communication conveying
    a seriousness and a sense of ambition/motivation.
The setting of the image is in a college on the steps
revealing a laidback setting, the model will be
someone with ascribed status but the background
will contrast that conveying a sense of where she
    came from.
WHAT do you want the image/images to
    tell your audience and WHY?

• I want the images to tell
  my audience that
  someone of their own
  capacity can achieve
  anything. Although I don't
  want the images to come
across as imposing or as a
  facade. My image needs
  to be inspirational
  towards my readers so
they can aspire to be like
  what is being shown to
  them.
WHAT story/stories will you be including
in your Double Page Spread and WHY will
it/they be related to the image/images?
• My double page spread
  will include images
  relating to the article.
  The article will be an
  interview with a young
  female grime artist. She
  will be giving advice to
  those reading the article.
It will relate as it is an
  interview with the artist
  also the image shows
  the audience who they
  are interviewing.
WHAT effect does the
  REPRESENTATION as portrayed by the
image/images used for your Double Page
Spread have on your intended target
              AUDIENCE?
• The images used for my double
  page spread represent the
genre of grime music. It also
  represents the idea that grime
music isn't only for males but
can be for females also. By
using this image it will create a
  sense of countertype for my
audience as they will realise a
  female grime artist can
  perform grime music as well.
WHAT is the MODE OF ADDRESS of
the major story on your Double Page
               Spread?
• Because my article is a interview
there isn’t a direct mode of
address. My article will be a
  interview between an
  interviewer and interviewee.
There may be some mode of
  address within the speech as
  they may include some inclusive
  language or when they are
talking to the audience they will
  address them accordingly
WHAT colour scheme will you be
         using and WHY?
• I will be using the grey, white and
blue colour scheme in my double
page spread. This is due to the
fact that my front cover includes
  these colours. By using these
colours it will help my audience
  link the magazine
  together, which will make it
easier to identify. It will also give
  my magazine a continuous
  theme throughout it.
WHAT main story will be included in your
  Double Page Spread e.g. Interviews,
commentary about events, artist gigs etc.,
             and WHY?
• My main article will be an interview
with a female grime artist. This is
because my target audience will be
interested in finding out about grime
artists life and how they have achieved
such things. By including an interview
for my target audience they will want
to read about this grime artist, who
they can relate to as they may be of
  similar age, background, ethnicity etc,
this will be in some ways inspirational
for my readers. It is also a type of
  entertainment/gossip for my audience
as they get an insight into her life.
HOW will you be arranging the
       information on your Double Page
              Spread and WHY?
• I will be referring back to my double page
spread drafts and if needed make changes
to them. After that I will constantly be
making drafts of my double page spread on
InDesign and Photoshop. I will make sure my
arrangement/layout is clear and not too
    complicated otherwise my readers won’t
understand, for example my text will clearly
indicate where it starts and where it ends. I
    will also include typical magazine
conventions such as folio’s and captions and
By-lines and headlines so that the audience
is familiar with what they are reading. I will
make sure that it fits in with conventions of
a double page spread so that my magazine
will not be mistaken for a poster or
    something else.
WHAT type of fonts and font sizes will
you be using for your Double Page
             Spread and WHY?
• The types of font I will be using are similar to what has
been used throughout my magazine this will benefit my
reader as they will be able to recognise texts throughout
the magazine. I will use clear cohesive font which will
allow my audience to read and understand, for example
‘times new roman’, ‘Calibri’ or ‘comic sans’. I wont any
font to fancy or complicated to read, although I will vary
font maybe 3 maximum. I will also ensure my font
matches the theme of the magazine, for example I wont
use any fancy font because this will contradict the
theme of grime because grime is seen as a very rough
and hard genre therefore I will use font that
compliments the theme. I will stick to a reasonable size
such as 14-16 for my text but components such as drop
caps or captions that require various font sizes may have
to be a larger font or smaller. By varying font sizes it will
allow my reader to encounter different visualisations
rather than sticking to one size.

Statement of intent double page spread

  • 2. WHAT layout will you be using for your Double Page Spread and WHY? • For my double page spread I will be using a landscape canvas. I will also be using typical conventions seen in magazines. Such as headlines, captions, folio , deck, by line, etc. The reason why I will be using these magazine components is because these are elements that are always seen double page spreads within magazines.
  • 3. WHAT principal components of a magazine layout will you be using in the construction of your Double Page Spread and WHY? • My principle components for my DPS will be pull-out-quote, drop cap and a caption for my image. I will use these elements because they are typical magazine conventions.
  • 4. WHAT type of images, graphics will you be using to make your Double Page Spread appeal your target audience and WHY? • I will be using images that are related to the article in my DPS. The type of graphics that will be included in my DPS are boxes, borders and lines. I will be including these graphics to section, separate and align my text. This will make my magazine look more neat and organised to my audience.
  • 5. WHAT image/images will you be using for your Double Page Spread and WHY will it/they appeal to your potential target audience? • The image I will be using for my double page spread will be a single image of a grime artist/s. My image will be slightly modified in Photoshop enhancing the image and maybe concealing any flaws. This will represent a perfect image but I will make sure that it doesn't come across too deceiving. By modifying my image it will appeal to my target audience as they will see a built up persona of someone they may aspire to be like. The body language of the model will be giving direct eye contact with the reader, use of non-verbal communication conveying a seriousness and a sense of ambition/motivation. The setting of the image is in a college on the steps revealing a laidback setting, the model will be someone with ascribed status but the background will contrast that conveying a sense of where she came from.
  • 6. WHAT do you want the image/images to tell your audience and WHY? • I want the images to tell my audience that someone of their own capacity can achieve anything. Although I don't want the images to come across as imposing or as a facade. My image needs to be inspirational towards my readers so they can aspire to be like what is being shown to them.
  • 7. WHAT story/stories will you be including in your Double Page Spread and WHY will it/they be related to the image/images? • My double page spread will include images relating to the article. The article will be an interview with a young female grime artist. She will be giving advice to those reading the article. It will relate as it is an interview with the artist also the image shows the audience who they are interviewing.
  • 8. WHAT effect does the REPRESENTATION as portrayed by the image/images used for your Double Page Spread have on your intended target AUDIENCE? • The images used for my double page spread represent the genre of grime music. It also represents the idea that grime music isn't only for males but can be for females also. By using this image it will create a sense of countertype for my audience as they will realise a female grime artist can perform grime music as well.
  • 9. WHAT is the MODE OF ADDRESS of the major story on your Double Page Spread? • Because my article is a interview there isn’t a direct mode of address. My article will be a interview between an interviewer and interviewee. There may be some mode of address within the speech as they may include some inclusive language or when they are talking to the audience they will address them accordingly
  • 10. WHAT colour scheme will you be using and WHY? • I will be using the grey, white and blue colour scheme in my double page spread. This is due to the fact that my front cover includes these colours. By using these colours it will help my audience link the magazine together, which will make it easier to identify. It will also give my magazine a continuous theme throughout it.
  • 11. WHAT main story will be included in your Double Page Spread e.g. Interviews, commentary about events, artist gigs etc., and WHY? • My main article will be an interview with a female grime artist. This is because my target audience will be interested in finding out about grime artists life and how they have achieved such things. By including an interview for my target audience they will want to read about this grime artist, who they can relate to as they may be of similar age, background, ethnicity etc, this will be in some ways inspirational for my readers. It is also a type of entertainment/gossip for my audience as they get an insight into her life.
  • 12. HOW will you be arranging the information on your Double Page Spread and WHY? • I will be referring back to my double page spread drafts and if needed make changes to them. After that I will constantly be making drafts of my double page spread on InDesign and Photoshop. I will make sure my arrangement/layout is clear and not too complicated otherwise my readers won’t understand, for example my text will clearly indicate where it starts and where it ends. I will also include typical magazine conventions such as folio’s and captions and By-lines and headlines so that the audience is familiar with what they are reading. I will make sure that it fits in with conventions of a double page spread so that my magazine will not be mistaken for a poster or something else.
  • 13. WHAT type of fonts and font sizes will you be using for your Double Page Spread and WHY? • The types of font I will be using are similar to what has been used throughout my magazine this will benefit my reader as they will be able to recognise texts throughout the magazine. I will use clear cohesive font which will allow my audience to read and understand, for example ‘times new roman’, ‘Calibri’ or ‘comic sans’. I wont any font to fancy or complicated to read, although I will vary font maybe 3 maximum. I will also ensure my font matches the theme of the magazine, for example I wont use any fancy font because this will contradict the theme of grime because grime is seen as a very rough and hard genre therefore I will use font that compliments the theme. I will stick to a reasonable size such as 14-16 for my text but components such as drop caps or captions that require various font sizes may have to be a larger font or smaller. By varying font sizes it will allow my reader to encounter different visualisations rather than sticking to one size.
