Wordpress is an open source content management system that was first released in 2003. It allows users to easily build and maintain blogs and websites. There are two main types - hosted on Wordpress.com which only allows approved themes and plugins, or self-hosted on your own domain which gives more flexibility but requires installing and configuring the software. Setting up a self-hosted Wordpress site involves getting a web host, downloading Wordpress, installing it which creates the database tables and wp-config.php file, and then exploring the dashboard to manage content, users, themes and plugins.
Rick Radko introduces WordPress in a presentation. He begins with an introduction of himself and his experience with WordPress. He then provides an overview of WordPress, explaining that it is a content management system that allows users to easily create and manage website content. Radko also discusses the differences between WordPress.com, WordPress.org, and WordPress networks/multisite installations. The presentation then covers the WordPress dashboard interface and how to create posts and pages as the fundamental content types in WordPress.

A Brief History of Web publishing (from HTML to WordPress)Brian Duffy
Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1990 to allow easy sharing of information between researchers. He created HTML, the language for structuring and presenting content on webpages, and browsers which could view these pages. However, directly editing raw HTML was difficult. Later, HTML editors and content management systems (CMS) like WordPress were created that allowed non-technical users to easily edit and manage website content through a graphical interface, popularizing the creation and maintenance of websites.
If you have tried WordPress.com and are ready to move to a self-hosted website, this presentation is for you. It will go over the basics of installing WordPress, migrating content and customizing your site.
This document discusses websites, web browsers, and web publishing. It defines websites as sets of related web pages served from a single domain and hosted on web servers. Websites can be static, with fixed content, or dynamic, generating pages from a database. Common types of websites include personal, informational, photo sharing, e-commerce, and mobile sites. Web browsers retrieve and display web resources, supporting privacy, security, and standards. Popular browsers include Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Web publishing involves building and uploading websites, updating pages, and posting online content, using tools like content management systems.
This document summarizes a workshop about using WordPress and BuddyPress for a university website project. It discusses installing and setting up WordPress and a WordPress Multisite network, important plugins, custom post types and taxonomies, costs, speed and security best practices. It also covers installing and configuring BuddyPress to add a social network layer. Key strengths are noted as the easy setup, flexibility, large user community and ability to customize sites independently while deploying rapidly on a limited budget.
A static web page displays the same information for all users and is not customizable. It is suitable when content needs to be updated rarely. Static pages exist as individual files like HTML files and are connected through navigation menus. Changes require updating every page. Dynamic pages can customize content for each user and draw changing content from external sources to provide interactive features like forms and searches. They are maintained through a content management system without technical HTML knowledge.
The document outlines the key steps in publishing a website, including securing a domain name, acquiring web hosting, testing and uploading the site, ongoing maintenance through updates and promotion, and addressing legal and ethical concerns. Some of the main steps are securing a domain name, choosing between hosting options like a personal server, free hosting, or paid hosting, using FTP to upload files to the host, and ongoing maintenance through validation, feedback, traffic analysis and promotion through search engines and other methods. Legal issues like copyright, privacy and accessibility are also addressed.

The session aims to familiarize attendees with WordPress features, terms, and concepts.
The document discusses using WordPress blogs for education. It argues that WordPress blogs can meet students where they are with technology, increase interaction through self-posting and commenting, and be helpful for teachers by making homework paperless and automatically archiving student work. It then provides tips for using WordPress, including an overview of signing up, the dashboard, categories and tags for organizing posts, commenting features, and user roles. Finally, it lists some free WordPress themes that could be suitable for education purposes.
This document provides an introduction and overview of Joomla, an open-source content management system (CMS). The document also discusses different types of CMS like document management systems, digital asset management, and web content management. It compares static and dynamic websites, and static websites versus CMS websites. Finally, it provides guidelines for planning a website, choosing domain names, web hosting, and designing and developing effective websites.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Proper training and socialization are crucial to preventing aggressive behaviors. Ensure safety by understanding their needs and always supervising interactions.
