The Rainbow Fish, written and illustrated by Marcus Pfister, is a children s story
about the power of giving. The most important detail in this book is the powerful
and important message that shines through in the story. After reading the book, we
realize that the effect of giving is sometimes even more of a gift to the one who is
doing the giving. After all it is better to give than to receive. The general themes that
one might interpret in Pfister s story are sharing, giving, and selflessness, or one
might see themes of vanity, value, self worth, and pride.
The text is very rich with description. The author makes it easy to imagine the beauty
of the Rainbow fish even without the illustrations. He uses adjectives like dazzling,
shimmering, and sparkling as he describes what all the other fish see as they
admire the beautiful fish swimming past them. He describes the fish as silent and
proud. Most people can relate to a situation in their own lives where they might
have encountered a person like the Rainbow Fish. As the reader reads the text of the
story, they will most likely find it easy to relate to the feelings of the little blue fish.
They might also find themselves rooting for the Rainbow Fish and wanting him to
figure out how to solve his dilemma so that he can make some friends and finally
find happiness.
The story is very easy to read. There is not a great amount of text and therefore it
can hold the attention of a younger child or make a great book

I spent most of my childhood traveling the world. What a way to spend a childhood
tell you, I am the person I am today because of the places I have been, the
opportunities I have had, and the people I have met. I can not even remember the
abundant number of times I have been woken up at four am to leave for the
airport. Dragging my sleepy feet behind me and dumping myself into the car. I
remember waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I d first
