Michigan Tech Volleyball Game
The ball whipped through the air, echoing through the gym like the snap from a
leather whip. Lauren, our libero,had served. I glanced at the flashing scoreboard and
winced at the score: 21 23. The other team had received the ball and were ready to
set their outside hitter. Their hitter made a lightning fast approach and the ball spun
through the air over to our side, aimed right at me.
This was my first volleyball camp at Michigan Tech University this summer and I
was ready. Coaches sorted us into teams, taught us some intermediate skills
revolving around the technique of the game, and scrimmaging from time to time.
My team leader was Ali Gerring, a recent graduate from Kingsford. We did bump
set spike drills and six different rotations to get ready for our big scrimmage the next
day. You could see the sweat glistening on our faces, and smell the hard
determination to improve. You could hear players call for the ball at every court
yelling, Mine, mine mine!
At every practice there were different stations specializing in hitting (spiking),
digging (bumping), and setting. We peppered with partners at some stations and
practiced serving at others. Our forearms were turning scarlet from digging so

If I were to teach a course on the Deuteronomic History, I would choose Joshua and
Judges on the grounds that it holds more stories that have relevance to the context of
my United Methodist congregation. The approximate demographics of my
congregation are as follows: over ninety percent are Caucasian; over fifty percent are
45 years of age or older; women are the dominate group within most of the small
group activities; and the mining, healthcare, and retail industries are the largest
employers respectively. Layoffs affect most families in this congregation due to
regular fluctuations in the mining industry, some due to direct employment and
others due to delicate economic ties to the mining industry. Just like most of the
country, the families of my congregation are less nuclear than in generations past as
blended and other non traditional families are increasing in number. It is from this
context that I have considered which Deuteronomic History stories to cover in a
weekly course of several weeks.
Before introducing these war texts, I would first present some background frame of
reference. I would first explain some scholarly thought about the time (622 BCE) in
which Joshua was written and how Josiah s reign might have influenced the lens
from which the authors created and edited the final form known today. Given that
most of my congregation believes heavily in the inerrancy and infallibility of the bible

the characters transform majorly due to their feelings of isolation. Marigolds is

Miss Brill created a fantasy life to escape her lonely one and is heartbroken when
she is brought back to reality. In the first paragraph, the fox fur is almost like a
friend to her. She treated it as though it is still alive referring to it as a dear little

impression. The vibrant color of turquoise symbolizes friendship and peace. The
orange and yellow sunrise give out warmth and joy that spreads into a pink hue of
harmony, symbolizing a bright new day, and a bright new future. All these colors

of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway also known as AT SF.
According to Kansas Historical Society, the AT SF Railway chartered in February of
1859. At its largest, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railwaywould own well over
13,000 miles, and the routes which made up its system would become some of the
most heavily and strategically used throughout the West that remains so to this day (
New Mexico Museum of Art).

Within this novel, our main character is the scientist Victor Frankenstein. His
curiosity and will to make the dead, well become alive, is what drives him to want
to succeed. His never ending curiosity of the fundamentals of the human body has
kept him pushing further, even losing sleep and his health decline. He strives to feed
that will, and when he does in fact succeed, he is astonished at to what he has created,
but appalled by its looks and inhuman demeanor.
Within the novel, in chapter 5, he is able to create and succeed at his lifelong dream.

something that went against what man was made for. He brought the dead and gave
it a life. In his eyes, wasting time on creating a monstrosity really got to Dr.
Frankenstein, making him distressed, leading him to let it roam free while he rested.

His need to create something that others haven t is evident in his journey
throughout his life. He wished to do something that would amaze others, leave him
in the books. His drive for success took over him, leading him to enclose and
distance himself from society in order to complete what he dreamed of. The

The westward expansion of the United States in the 19th century and the
astonishing success of that expansion can be traced back to the discovery of gold.
The California Gold Rush was an event that forever changed the West and sparked
the dream of endless riches for many Americans and people worldwide. The year
was 1848, and a man by the name of James Wilson Marshall, while working on the
construction of a mill, came across nuggets of gold at the base of the Sierra
Nevada in the Sacramento Valley. Wilson and his employer, John Sutter made
attempts to keep their discovery a secret but soon enough the news got out and
spread like wildfire. It wasn t until 1949 that people from all over made their
journey to California to have their share in the riches of gold. There were two main
means of travel for those who wished to take part in the gold rush, both were of
month s travel, six to be exact. One method included a boat voyage down the tip of
South America while the other offered a treacherous travel through the wilderness of
the mainland. Both were extremely dangerous and expensive. Those whose dream
of riches that made the trip to the California became known as 49ers as in that year,

working conditions, long hours and poor wages of her workplace. Her frustrations
