Coffee Is The Best Cup Of Coffee
Lately, coffee has been in all of its glory. Being more popular than ever, with pumpkin spice lattes,
morning coffee runs, and debates on which shop offers the best cup of coffee. No one ever seems to be
interested in how coffee was discovered, who discovered it, who invented coffee machines, and how
those were invented. There is no limit to the history behind all of these questions. Coffee has been
around for centuries, and has changed history to say the least. The first coffee plants are said to have
come from the Horn of Africa on the shores of the Red Sea. Originally, coffee beans were not used as
a beverage, but eaten. East African tribes would grind the coffee cherries together and mix it with
animal fat, and then the paste would be rolled into little balls. The mixture was said to give warriors
much needed energy for battle (A Brief History). The plants that the beans grow on actually resemble
tiny Christmas trees. Originally the beans are a red color, and actually have a floral scent. The beans
turn their known brown black color when they are roasted, and the darker the color determines how
long they have been roasted. During the 11th century in Ethiopia, goat herder Kaldi noticed his goats
became so active, not wanting to sleep at night, all from the consumption of these berries (The History
of Coffee). Kaldi then took them to his wife, who said they are heaven sent, and must be taken to the
monks. At the monastery, the abot chucked them into the fire claiming

Bowling For Columbine Documentary Essay
Documentary reflection
The assignment task for Term two was for a small group of people (three), to create a documentary
and then each person to write a reflection. Before starting this documentary, we studied the history and
development of documentaries. We then looked more into how different documentaries, Spellbound
(objective) and Bowling for Columbine (subjective), how each separate style was created and made
and how each different style affected people.
We ran into conflict when we were choosing what topic for our documentary. We all had many ideas
but most of them we had to rule out because they would not be suitable for Year 5 and 6. The target
audience only left us a few ideas. This is because when we first started off thinking ... Show more

We added some funny videos to please the target audience.
We interviewed most of or interviewees in a classroom. The reason why we choose this area is that
because when a student is at school, they are constantly in a classroom. So soon enough many feel
more comfortable in a classroom than other places. We interviewed some grade tens were their bags
are. We assumed they would be more honest if they were interviewed somewhere that was familiar
and in a sense comforting because if they feel comfortable, they would normally be more truthful. We
chose to do a mid shot because when most people are nervous, they tend to move their feet and we
didn t want to show them nervous to be interviewed. We also used different camera angles to show
different people. Some were smaller, so we lowered the angle and where the camera was positioned.
From watching Bowling for Columbine and Spellbound , we decided to choose a subjective
documentary because we were all more interested in Bowling for Columbine than Spellbound . When
editing we looked at what Bowling for Columbine did with editing things together and things out to
get what our point across more affected.
When working in a group, we found it hard to balance out the roles, but I think we did. I was the
editor and camera person which is a great duo because I imagined what I wanted to do with the
filming and just had to ask

Seven Literacy Capabilities
I believe that literacy is one of the most important of the seven capabilities. Every single person in the
entire world uses literacy every single day, you could say it is more of a way of life than a capability.
In today s day and age, most things have become digitalized, and children are becoming more
confident in their writing abilities as well as their communication skills online. Literacy takes reading,
writing, and communication skills, and jumbles those all up together, giving people who extend their
literacy capability the option to apply more techniques, and interactions onto these skills. In the words

SUBJECT: Oil Drilling amp; Gas Extraction Industry in the US Analysis (21111)
This report presents information regarding the industry, the primary operator of oil and gas field
properties. The industry fuels its key buyers, the Natural Gas Distribution (22121) and the Petroleum
Refining (32411) industries, with crude oil and natural gas. The industry continuously battles a
shortage of available oil. In addition, many major oil fields have been in use for decades, slowly

New firms lacking this versatility may find an obstacle upon entry to the industry (Hersch, 2012).
Additionally, firms in this industry must specialize in exploration and discovery for oil and gas
resources. Firms may struggle finding initial success in this role due to the limited nature of resources.
Long term Resource Depletion
Peak oil refers to the prime of any field s production, after which goes into terminal decline. Most
major US oil fields are beyond peak oil. The largest US oil field, Prudhoe Bay, has been depleting
since 1979 (Prudhoe, 2012). The US Energy Information Administration indicates much production,
particularly in the Alaskan North Slope, depends on world oil prices (Energy, 2012). Geophysicists
and politicians debate over specifications regarding overall US peak oil, arguing the year in which US
peak oil occurred.
International Comparison
In addition to the US peak oil situation, the US Oil Drilling and Gas Extraction Industry faces heavy
foreign market competition. In 2011, the US ranked 3rd in oil production, behind Saudi Arabia and
Russia (Energy, 2012). Saudi Arabia s OPEC governor expects Saudi output to rise steadily beyond
2030 with a 1.5 million barrel per day spare production capacity then (Energy, 2012). Russia holds the

Focus on the relevance and effect of the writer s use of language to describe setting, character and
what it shows about social and historical influences
The novel Frankenstein is about a scientist name Victor Frankenstein who decides to create life using

when the monster looms over him he held up the curtain... one hand stretched out symbolizes the

Dr Frankenstein was an interesting character which showed the signs of insanity. The personality trait
that stood out the most was his obsessive nature I had spent the last two years hard at work , it shows
he was dedicated enough to spend 2 years of his life creating a monster. He was also very
impulsive/unpredictable heartless laughter, frightened and astonished him , he was laughing at his own
catastrophe. Victor was also very paranoid, Intelligent, a fantasist, lonely, misguided and arrogant
which all went together to make Victor.
Chapter 5 uses a lot of Pathetic Fallacy to help the novel helps its ambiance. Dreary night of
November and my candle was nearly burnt out . Are both imagery that best describes the ambiance.
The key events are the creation of the monster and Victors fit. The way the monster is described gives

Behind each house was a garden or small plot of land. The common fields surrounding the village
were some distance away, divided into strips and separated by twigs and pieces of unplowed land. Past
the open fields was the waste, the uncultivated land which provided grazing land for the cattle, sheep
and pigs and also fuel and timber for building.11 Bread was the staple item of the peasant diet. Eating
meat was either a rare or nonexistent occurrence. Peasants ate whatever they grew: grains and a small
percent of vegetables and potatoes. Barley and oats were made into both food and drink for

either the lords or to the upper classes.12 The peasant s housing was as basic as his diet. Most houses
consisted of two rooms, one for living and one for sleeping. The walls were constructed of clay or
straw supported by wooden frames. The roofs were thatched and animals were free to wander in and

The problem itself is not one that can be fixed in a few nights, what has been done to the spheres is
almost irreversible with a few exceptions. The severity of this problem isn t one that can completely
alter the way we live but at the same time every action has an equal opposite reaction. Due to the
frequency of the emissions the spheres can be greatly impacted. Many people have been affected by
these emissions and most of the illnesses given to these people are very damaging or terminal. On
average every 3 7 years a building is repainted and depending on the size of the building many VOCs
are released. As well as the frequent times the inside of the buildings are repainted and just creating
artwork. Also VOC emissions are two to five times higher indoors than outdoors which just increase

downfall to buying the VOC free paint was there wasn t as many color options because VOC free

Arrogance of Power Review Essay
English 102
2 July 2014
A Favorable Evaluation
William J. Fulbright, a democratic Senator from Arkansas, was Chairman of the Senate Foreign
Relations Committee in 1966 when The Arrogance of Power was published. In an excerpt from
Fulbright s book, he analyzes the misguided thinking behind America s global interventionism and its
delusion of righteous all powerfulness. These symptoms are a confusion of power and virtue.
Fulbright defines the arrogance of power as, a psychological need that nations seem to have in order to
prove that they are bigger, better, or stronger than other nations (2). William J. Fulbright uses
persuasive appeals in his well structured book, The Arrogance of Power to help convey his views on
U.S. war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to his use of pathos, Fulbright also has an excellent use of logos and ethos throughout the
piece.
Fulbright lays out facts that the law of averages has already been more than kind to us, and sooner or
later the law of averages will turn against us (4). Fulbright educates the readers on theologians,
behavioral scientists, and humanists, explaining in detail how these fields play a role in the behavior
of nations. In pointing out these facts Fulbright is appealing to the reader s logical sides. William J.
Fulbright uses ethos by using other sources to help further his position. There is a Canadian
psychiatrist, Brock Chisholm, and two prominent authors, Aldous Huxley and Mark Twain, quoted to
help supplement the Senator s point that a radical change in traditional behavior is required (Fulbright
4). Given Fulbright s position as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he himself is a
very credible source. The reader is much more likely to agree with Senator Fulbright on issues rather
than to agree with an average citizen.
Fulbright is very blunt and matter of fact during this piece which helped make his point. There is not a
lot of fluff to read around. In part to great transitions the work has a logical order to it which seems to
build everything up and then little by little shows the flaws and eventually tears it down wholly.
Fulbright not only

The cabinet members in the government were mostly noblemen. The middle class had very little
influence on politics and government (Boardman 38).
In the early nineteenth century people where using labels like working classes and middle classes.
This designation was to separate people who had achieved success in commerce, industry, and other
professions. They were considered the upper class. The upper class had a great control over the
political system. This was not good for the working class and middle class because it left them no say
in the government. However, some of the more powerful middle class men pushed for the Reform Act
of 1832 and the deletion of the Corn Laws of 1846 (Wohl 1).
The high Victorian era ended toward the end of the 1860s 1870s. The year that started the late
Victorian era was 1867 when the Second Reform Bill was doubled. In this year the town workers were
starting to have some say in town government. Now what had been unraveling for decades was taking
affect. The middle class had already achieved power in government and now it was the worker s turn.
The upper class was bitter over the success that the workers were gaining, but they had no other
choice than to accept what was happening (Boardman 38).
Increased industrialization was becoming a concern of the workers. They started strikes protesting the
addition of machines because their jobs were being compromised. The only that workers were heard

Aristotle On Friendship
Philosophical Ethics December 6, 1995
Friendship is undoubtedly one of the most important elements in the books of Aristotle s ethical
principles. Aristotle takes the idea of friendship to a serious degree. He categorizes them into three
groups or types of friendships. This report will attempt to define each type of friendship as well as
identify the role of friendship in a society. Aristotle considers friendship to be a necessity to live. He
claims that no individual would chose to live without friends even if the individual had all of the other
good things in life. He also describes friendship as a virtue and as just. Given the above statements on
friendship, it is safe to say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are quick to create and destroy friendships because their affection changes as fast as the things
that please them do.
Aristotle felt that this sort of pleasure changes rapidly. The young also have a tendency to fall in love,
thus creating an erotic friendship which is swayed by the feelings and based on pleasure. Finally, we
have what is considered the by Aristotle as the perfect friendship. This is called the friendship based
on goodness. This kind of friendship is between those that desire the good of their friends for their
friend s sake not their own. Each friend loves the other for what he is, not for a particular quality. This
type of friendship can last as long as the friends remain good. The friendship just might last forever.
Aristotle considers it a permanent friendship because in it are all of the attributes that friends ought to
possess. This friendship differs than the others mentioned because all the parties involved have each
other s qualities. There is no need to use the other for pleasure or utility. They are in it for each other.
As you can see, Aristotle held friendship in high regard. He considered it something to better the
society as well as the individual. His definitions of the types of friendships can make one relate to his
or her own friends. One can try to determine the type of friendships that one may have or wish to have
with his or her friends. It would certainly be a challenge in today s day

Zen Buddhism From Chinese Buddhism
Zen Buddhism originated from Chinese Buddhism that was transmitted to Japan. The Zen school was
known as one of the many Buddhist religion in Japan. In Japan, Zen is defined as the buddha mind,
...the ultimate reality, or emptiness, of all things and the enlightened state, or knowledge of that reality,
characteristic of a buddha (Bielefeldt 1995: 198). Zen emphasizes on the insight into the Buddha
nature through seated meditation (zazen), meditation practice, and teacher sudden interaction. Zazen
was understood as an expression of the Buddha nature. Zen Buddhism, focus on a separate

In Buddhism, Buddhists generally achieve enlightenment by using meditation. Meditation helps
Buddhist spiritual cultivate their minds by purifying their minds in a deep concentration.
Enlightenment is the natural and true state of the mind which exist within the mind of all sentient
beings as the mind comes to the awareness of its own inherent potential (Gregory 1987:289). The
mind is free from thoughts and attachment of the world. To attain the Bodhi one must take part in
meditative practices, followed by initial and transforming experience of awakening. After wakening
the going process of cultivation of one s insight until one s attain ultimate perfection. One can seek
enlightenment by practicing mediation; however, over time there is a controversy between how one
attains enlightenment.
Sudden enlightenment traditionally was known as the true teaching of Buddhism in which the robe
and Dharma have been uninterruptedly transmitted over successive generations (Gregory 1987: 279)
of Bodhidharma s teaching of the Platform Sutra. The passing down of the Dharma role symbolized
the official lineage of transmission; the robe is the proof of the Dharma. Yet over time, the robe no
longer upheld this tradition. However, the Platform Sutra overtook this responsibility, as this Sutra
became the doctrine of Buddhism. Sudden enlightenment came to dominate Chinese thought very
quickly because it does not require

Is Batman A Hero
Batman was created by Bob Kane and is regarded as one of the best comic book characters. Over the
years he has been known for taking on impossible odds for any human to face, often winning each
time, but can he really beat anyone?
As much as I love Batman comics, movies, and TV series, too many fans have this absurd notion that
he can beat anyone if given prep time. Granted, Batman is one of those type of heroes who has the
ability to outsmart a multitude of villains or other heroes using strategy, detective skills, martial arts,
and technology, but even with all this in his favor there are many characters he will never be able to
beat who are either superior to him in these areas or have way too much power for him to compensate
for. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, Batman only beat the man of steel because he had access to some thing he knew would
diminish his natural power, making him weak in the process. (also a result of the pain) So, technically
his win doesn t count. Not much strategy was needed for what he did in this fight. Depending on how
you play it, anyone could beat Superman when he s like that. If Superman did not have Kryptonite as a
weakness, the dark knight would have been killed or would be left with no choice but to escape. In a
similar scenario, if we were to replace the man of steel with another such as Galactus, or Thanos,
Batman would easily lose this fight because they simply have no exploitable weakness he could use to
beat them. No amount of preparation, technology, or human physicality can compete with a being who
is light years beyond average or Olympic levels of power, specifically godlike entities. Another point
worth noting is Bats track record against foes smarter and more skilled then him. He has been beaten
many times by Slade Wilson a.k.a. Deathstroke, Lady Shiva, and a few others throughout his career
which he has never outsmarted or beaten in a fight.
As he stands, Batman is a symbol, he embodies many of the good qualities as well as physical and
even mental abilities we can all strive to achieve in reality, but with good

Omega 6 Fatty Acids
The purpose of the modification of the bacon was to make it more healthier. The researchers changed
the omega 6 fatty acids into omega 3 fatty acids because omega 3 is considered the healthy fat. So
instead of getting it from sources like fish and other sources they wanted to find a way to modify a
gene to change that omega 6 into omega 3 to make the bacon a healthier version of itself. This use of
technology scares me sometimes because many are cloning animals in ways they weren t meant to be
in the first place. They don t even know for sure that this method is completely safe so more research
and observation needs to be done before they start using this. I believe that if their is omega 3 in a
specific source we need to go and consume that source. We need to get our nutrients exactly where
they originate from and not by injecting specific genes into foods were they aren t meant to be. ...

Oliver Twist was probably one of the most popular novels of its time.

This shows her loyalty to Bill Sikes and maybe Fagin and this could be a problem for her and Oliver
later on in the novel.
Nancy is seen rescuing Oliver many times but then dragging him back into trouble just when he is
about to get out. She is confused because at first she kidnaps Oliver and, then, she protects him from
Bullseye
(Bill s dog). Then Nancy collects Oliver from Fagin so he can be used on a burglary with Bill Sikes.
Then Nancy has a discussion with Fagin and later overhears a conversation between him and Monks
about Olivier which again changes her mind! Nancy then visits Rose Maylie and then a few days later
she is planning to visit her again but Sikes won t let her out of the house. After meeting Brownlow and
Rose, Fagin suspects something, and Nancy is brutally murdered by the psychotic Bill Sikes!
Nancy is such an important character in the novel Oliver Twist for many reasons, the most important
being that because she helps Oliver escape from the criminal underworld she is risking her own life to
save his. She gets whacked by Bill Sikes for trying to help Oliver and trying to hide him and it is at
this point she is realised as an important character. It s like that saying everyone gets famous after they
die! Nancy is important to the plot development because she is shown as double sided in the novel but
when Fagin employs Noah

Interconnectedness In Let The Great World Spin By Colum...
Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each other
all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know each other or if
we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some way. This
interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point that many might
miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great World Spin, developed a
intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the novel, it is through this that he
unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By doing this, the author develops an
idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and become intertwined with one another in a
way that can change the direction of someone s life; in other words, the people around us, even
strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence us on accident without even knowing it. One
person s decision has many unknown and known effects. First example of how the author uses
connectedness as the point of this novel is how Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the
novel. At the beginning of the novel neither of the two characters know anything about the other s
existence until the car crash that ends Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were
involved in. It is through their grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves
and learn to move on. Had not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we
know, Ciaran and Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the
connection between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which
leads to Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies.
Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their
connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal and
cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it. Both
women are in a support group with other women who are also

The Development of Roman Architecture Ancient Roman concrete is one of the greatest achievements
to architecture since the creation and shaping of limestone by the Egyptians when building the great
pyramids. Roman concrete structures today still stand after withstanding natures slow but powerful
degrading capacity. If you visit the Roman Pantheon, you would see, after all this time, that the
building still stands prominently and in near perfection to this day. Concrete was a major catalyst to
the innovation of Roman architecture. This essay seeks to explore more of the effects of Roman

When Rome began adopting Greek architecture and art (The three orders of architecture, Doric, Ionic,

However, Roman concrete was most widely used to construct roads for troops and to help faster
economic trade, as well as, being used commonly in buildings and walls. At about 120 124 the
Romans architectural mastery was so great that they could build the circular Pantheon temple, a
testament to the majesty of the Roman empire, and a place where the Romans could pray to their gods.
The Pantheon dome was created in a way where the concrete for the coffered dome was poured in
molds and mounted on temporary scaffolding where the center, known as the oculus, would be open
for the public to see the light or night of day, and stand as a testament to the capabilities the Roman

There are lots of mysteries in the world today. One of these was the finding of an abandoned ship, the

These events eventually inspired a young writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to write a book about the

and plausible reason for the crew to leave. The Mary Celeste was most likely abandoned by choice.

On February 15th, 1872, the Mary Celeste was discovered drifting by the crew of the Dei Gratia.
Though slightly damaged, her compass stand had been knocked over and the compass destroyed; the
hatch covers were also off, she was basically fine. Her boat was missing, as was the captain s
chronometer, navigation book and ship s register. There was a lot of water between decks, in the
forward deckhouse and in the cabin.
The story of The Mary Celeste tends to link with other mysteries throughout its years. The link

why things work or happen the way they do started leading into even pirates and creature of the deep,
giant squids, and even to great lengths such as time travel. However, there is no events or objects that

Human Relations Between Cuba And Cuba
Lord Viscount Palmerston, a former British prime minister, once said that it is a narrow policy to
suppose that... [Britain]... is to be marked out as the eternal ally or the perpetual enemy of England.
We have no eternal allies, and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual,
and those interests it is our duty to follow (qtd. Burke 51). This view is valid for all countries, but in
particular, it speaks to the United States and their relationship with Cuba. Since 1959, the year in
which Fidel Castro took over Cuba from the dictator Fulgencio Batista and established a communist
regime, relations between America and Cuba have been rather tense. When Fidel Castro and his allies

Recent developments in the relationship between the US and Cuba have surprised many, but this is not
a sudden change as there are many reasons for this shift. A number of countries in Latin America are
hostile to America s foreign politics in the region and even some allies such as Mexico, Argentina, or
Brazil have not agreed with America s espionage scandal. In fact, the US spied on the Brazil, one of
their greatest ally in the region. These revelations have cast a chill in relations between the two
countries. Since American Cuban relations are historically vast, this paper will focus on the history of
the past 55 years in order to better understand the context of the current situation, and to help explain
why this approach is not sudden or abrupt. America does not have permanent enemies and has often
had a pragmatic approach toward hostile regimes. Analyzing the current approach of the American
policy toward Cuba as a function of the international political scene, I will also show that the bulk of
American opinion has evolved on the Cuban question. After many years, the embargo policy has not
produced the expected effects on Cuban social structures. In addition, the American economy needs

Darwin s Theory Of Evolution Research Paper
While it is unfair to observe the relationships between Judaism and the theories surrounding Darwin s
evolution as a whole, it is however feasible to analyze evolutionary biology within a highly specific
sect and time period of Judaism. Interestingly, the topic of Darwinism and Judaism from the 19th
century to the present is an ongoing and subjective debate in the US. Throughout the past few
centuries, Judaism has been somewhat split along the issue of whether or not evolution is compatible
with Jewish laws and teachings. The most conservative (with a small c) Jewish rabbis and
philosophers argue that evolution poses a conflict with Jewish belief, while more moderate Jews argue
that both ideas can coexist. Within Orthodox Judaism minus the Hasidic, religious leaders have

Kaplan s liberal beliefs actually ended up forming the newer Reconstructionist movement in America.
In brief, God is the Power in the cosmos that gives human life the direction that enables the human
being to reflect the image of God. In Rabbi Kaplan s stance, God is literally the science behind
Darwin s theories of evolution. Kaplan s firm position of theistic evolution follows through throughout
the rabbis of Modern Orthodox Judaism. The common trend by Modern Orthodox Jews is to attempt
to create compromises that accept both progressive sciences and religion. The main concern with this
is that each and every topic must be settled through a case by case basis. For some of the larger issues,
such as evolutionary biology, each case must be dealt through by interpreting the Bible since evolution
cannot be interpreted. Darwin s theories are scientific truth, leaving no room for interpretation or
creative manipulation. In this case, rabbis must take the biblical text and find ways to integrate it into
science, lest there be

For hypothesis test two the manager suspects less than 55% of the 100 telemarketers received online

provides the three options. Therefore, if those receiving either group training or none at all total more
than 45 telemarketers of the 100 sales people then the alternative hypothesis is accepted because there
is sufficient evidence to support it. If the manager s suspicions are true: the null hypothesis that states
there are less than 55% of the sales force who received online training is true then there must be
sufficient evidence to support that statement. 20 of 100 callers have no training and 30 telemarketers
received group training while 50 sales people received online training according to the Excel data

The Judiciary And The Federal Budget
Poorly crafted statues almost always require future revision, sometimes in another moment of crisis.
This type of law making tends to increase the power of executive agencies as well as the courts.
Because the judiciary is forced to clarify legislation, to rule on its details and apply legislation to
uncertain situations, vague legislation ends up allocating substantial power to the judiciary. Imprecise
and open ended statues often increase to power of executive agencies, too. Such agencies are given
broad mandates without much guidance or oversight.
Decades ago, the US Congress would assign specific priorities and focuses to federal agencies when
approving the yearly federal budget. This guidance is especially important because the legislature
exerts little other control over independent agencies, like the Federal Trade Commission or the Federal
Communications Commission. Now, because the federal budget is so often approved during crisis
conditions (and sometimes merely extends the previous year s budget into the next), Congress offers
little guidance to independent agencies. This enhances the power of independent agencies while
leaving them without guidance. Unger s preferred mode of organizing politics would entail a
substantial increase to the last minute compromises and revisions that cause such confusion.
The courts, too, will be called upon to specify legislative details, meaning, and reach of legislation.
Many scholars in the legal realism camp

in this essay as to what stands out and detracts from the physicality of the piece.

The only time san serif font appears in the magazine is on the exterior covers, it brings up a question
of consistency, it becomes visually jarring to go from san serif to serif throughout. Even if they had
just chosen to make the embolden headers a san serif it would have brought th exterior throughout the
interior and the magazine as a whole would look uniform. The change in paper quality for the section
of art submissions is jarring, particularly because the glossed pages are so white versus the eggshell
color of the rest of the book. Page 22 is a complete waste of space.
Content
Starting with the history of Grub Street street section, the font is distracting and needlessly decorative.
The Staff section looks like a jumble. I have some problem with the table of contents just because it
doesn t describe the actual way the magazine unfolds but since it s broken down by genre, its
acceptable. Now onto the other content. The first freaking piece, the first one, the piece that sets the
pace and tone for the entire book, or at least it should. This is the piece they chose, The Main Line. I
immediately wonder about the credibility of the writer. It sets a bad taste in my mouth and admittedly
colors my opinion for the rest of the book. The wide range and I use the term wide loosely gives off
the feeling that this was possibly the only submissions

  • 2. Coffee Is The Best Cup Of Coffee Lately, coffee has been in all of its glory. Being more popular than ever, with pumpkin spice lattes, morning coffee runs, and debates on which shop offers the best cup of coffee. No one ever seems to be interested in how coffee was discovered, who discovered it, who invented coffee machines, and how those were invented. There is no limit to the history behind all of these questions. Coffee has been around for centuries, and has changed history to say the least. The first coffee plants are said to have come from the Horn of Africa on the shores of the Red Sea. Originally, coffee beans were not used as a beverage, but eaten. East African tribes would grind the coffee cherries together and mix it with animal fat, and then the paste would be rolled into little balls. The mixture was said to give warriors much needed energy for battle (A Brief History). The plants that the beans grow on actually resemble tiny Christmas trees. Originally the beans are a red color, and actually have a floral scent. The beans turn their known brown black color when they are roasted, and the darker the color determines how long they have been roasted. During the 11th century in Ethiopia, goat herder Kaldi noticed his goats became so active, not wanting to sleep at night, all from the consumption of these berries (The History of Coffee). Kaldi then took them to his wife, who said they are heaven sent, and must be taken to the monks. At the monastery, the abot chucked them into the fire claiming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bowling For Columbine Documentary Essay Documentary reflection The assignment task for Term two was for a small group of people (three), to create a documentary and then each person to write a reflection. Before starting this documentary, we studied the history and development of documentaries. We then looked more into how different documentaries, Spellbound (objective) and Bowling for Columbine (subjective), how each separate style was created and made and how each different style affected people. We ran into conflict when we were choosing what topic for our documentary. We all had many ideas but most of them we had to rule out because they would not be suitable for Year 5 and 6. The target audience only left us a few ideas. This is because when we first started off thinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We added some funny videos to please the target audience. We interviewed most of or interviewees in a classroom. The reason why we choose this area is that because when a student is at school, they are constantly in a classroom. So soon enough many feel more comfortable in a classroom than other places. We interviewed some grade tens were their bags are. We assumed they would be more honest if they were interviewed somewhere that was familiar and in a sense comforting because if they feel comfortable, they would normally be more truthful. We chose to do a mid shot because when most people are nervous, they tend to move their feet and we didn t want to show them nervous to be interviewed. We also used different camera angles to show different people. Some were smaller, so we lowered the angle and where the camera was positioned. From watching Bowling for Columbine and Spellbound , we decided to choose a subjective documentary because we were all more interested in Bowling for Columbine than Spellbound . When editing we looked at what Bowling for Columbine did with editing things together and things out to get what our point across more affected. When working in a group, we found it hard to balance out the roles, but I think we did. I was the editor and camera person which is a great duo because I imagined what I wanted to do with the filming and just had to ask ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A passage from Pierce the Ploughman s Creed gives the perfect description of a day in the life of a peasant: As I went by the way, weeping for sorrow, I saw a poor man hanging on to the plough. As he trod the soil his toes stuck out of his worn shoes with their thick soles; his hocks on all sides and he was all bedaubed with muck as he followed the plough. Fulbright, a democratic Senator from Arkansas, was Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1966 when The Arrogance of Power was published. In an excerpt from Fulbright s book, he analyzes the misguided thinking behind America s global interventionism and its delusion of righteous all powerfulness. These symptoms are a confusion of power and virtue. Fulbright defines the arrogance of power as, a psychological need that nations seem to have in order to prove that they are bigger, better, or stronger than other nations (2). William J. Fulbright educates the readers on theologians, behavioral scientists, and humanists, explaining in detail how these fields play a role in the behavior of nations. In pointing out these facts Fulbright is appealing to the reader s logical sides. William J. Fulbright uses ethos by using other sources to help further his position. There is a Canadian psychiatrist, Brock Chisholm, and two prominent authors, Aldous Huxley and Mark Twain, quoted to help supplement the Senator s point that a radical change in traditional behavior is required (Fulbright 4). Given Fulbright s position as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he himself is a very credible source. The reader is much more likely to agree with Senator Fulbright on issues rather than to agree with an average citizen. Fulbright is very blunt and matter of fact during this piece which helped make his point. There is not a lot of fluff to read around. Finally, we have what is considered the by Aristotle as the perfect friendship. This is called the friendship based on goodness. This kind of friendship is between those that desire the good of their friends for their friend s sake not their own. Each friend loves the other for what he is, not for a particular quality. This type of friendship can last as long as the friends remain good. The friendship just might last forever. Aristotle considers it a permanent friendship because in it are all of the attributes that friends ought to possess. This friendship differs than the others mentioned because all the parties involved have each other s qualities. There is no need to use the other for pleasure or utility. They are in it for each other. As you can see, Aristotle held friendship in high regard. He considered it something to better the society as well as the individual. • 27. Interconnectedness In Let The Great World Spin By Colum... Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each other all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know each other or if we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some way. This interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point that many might miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great World Spin, developed a intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the novel, it is through this that he unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By doing this, the author develops an idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and become intertwined with one another in a way that can change the direction of someone s life; in other words, the people around us, even strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence us on accident without even knowing it. One person s decision has many unknown and known effects. First example of how the author uses connectedness as the point of this novel is how Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the novel. At the beginning of the novel neither of the two characters know anything about the other s existence until the car crash that ends Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were involved in. It is through their grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves and learn to move on. Had not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we know, Ciaran and Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the connection between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which leads to Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies. Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal and cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it. At about 120 124 the Romans architectural mastery was so great that they could build the circular Pantheon temple, a testament to the majesty of the Roman empire, and a place where the Romans could pray to their gods. The Pantheon dome was created in a way where the concrete for the coffered dome was poured in molds and mounted on temporary scaffolding where the center, known as the oculus, would be open for the public to see the light or night of day, and stand as a testament to the capabilities the Roman architects could ... • 32. The Mary Celeste There are lots of mysteries in the world today. One of these was the finding of an abandoned ship, the finding of the Mary Celeste. The ship was found with no passengers and no reason to be abandoned. These events eventually inspired a young writer, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to write a book about the Mary Celeste which leads rumors that lead into other myths. Also Scientist have found a very likely and plausible reason for the crew to leave. The Mary Celeste was most likely abandoned by choice. The Mary Celeste was an abandoned ship found off the coast of Spain. Mary was a one hundred feet long, two hundred eighty two ton, Canadian built. Upon further inspection of the ship, it was completely empty of any humans, living or otherwise, though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On November 5, 1872, Captain Briggs sailed with a crew of eight, and with his wife and two year old daughter also aboard. They went about a mile from port because of weather. On November 7, they were sailing again, bound for Genoa, Italy. Their cargo: 1700 barrels of crude alcohol for fortifying wines. On February 15th, 1872, the Mary Celeste was discovered drifting by the crew of the Dei Gratia. Though slightly damaged, her compass stand had been knocked over and the compass destroyed; the hatch covers were also off, she was basically fine. Her boat was missing, as was the captain s chronometer, navigation book and ship s register. There was a lot of water between decks, in the forward deckhouse and in the cabin. The story of The Mary Celeste tends to link with other mysteries throughout its years. The link between other very old stories mostly link back to a book written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his early writing years. The book was based on The Mary Celeste but the book was a work of fiction, not fact. Some start using other very old stories as reasons for the disappearances. The explanations of why things work or happen the way they do started leading into even pirates and creature of the deep, giant squids, and even to great lengths such as time travel. • 33. Human Relations Between Cuba And Cuba Lord Viscount Palmerston, a former British prime minister, once said that it is a narrow policy to suppose that... [Britain]... is to be marked out as the eternal ally or the perpetual enemy of England. We have no eternal allies, and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow (qtd. Burke 51). This view is valid for all countries, but in particular, it speaks to the United States and their relationship with Cuba. Since 1959, the year in which Fidel Castro took over Cuba from the dictator Fulgencio Batista and established a communist regime, relations between America and Cuba have been rather tense. When Fidel Castro and his allies took power through a revolution, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recent developments in the relationship between the US and Cuba have surprised many, but this is not a sudden change as there are many reasons for this shift. A number of countries in Latin America are hostile to America s foreign politics in the region and even some allies such as Mexico, Argentina, or Brazil have not agreed with America s espionage scandal. In fact, the US spied on the Brazil, one of their greatest ally in the region. These revelations have cast a chill in relations between the two countries. Since American Cuban relations are historically vast, this paper will focus on the history of the past 55 years in order to better understand the context of the current situation, and to help explain why this approach is not sudden or abrupt. America does not have permanent enemies and has often had a pragmatic approach toward hostile regimes. Analyzing the current approach of the American policy toward Cuba as a function of the international political scene, I will also show that the bulk of American opinion has evolved on the Cuban question. After many years, the embargo policy has not produced the expected effects on Cuban social structures. In addition, the American economy needs new markets, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Darwin s Theory Of Evolution Research Paper While it is unfair to observe the relationships between Judaism and the theories surrounding Darwin s evolution as a whole, it is however feasible to analyze evolutionary biology within a highly specific sect and time period of Judaism. Interestingly, the topic of Darwinism and Judaism from the 19th century to the present is an ongoing and subjective debate in the US. Throughout the past few centuries, Judaism has been somewhat split along the issue of whether or not evolution is compatible with Jewish laws and teachings. The most conservative (with a small c) Jewish rabbis and philosophers argue that evolution poses a conflict with Jewish belief, while more moderate Jews argue that both ideas can coexist. Within Orthodox Judaism minus the Hasidic, religious leaders have determined that evolutionary biology does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kaplan s liberal beliefs actually ended up forming the newer Reconstructionist movement in America. In brief, God is the Power in the cosmos that gives human life the direction that enables the human being to reflect the image of God. In Rabbi Kaplan s stance, God is literally the science behind Darwin s theories of evolution. Kaplan s firm position of theistic evolution follows through throughout the rabbis of Modern Orthodox Judaism. The common trend by Modern Orthodox Jews is to attempt to create compromises that accept both progressive sciences and religion. The main concern with this is that each and every topic must be settled through a case by case basis. For some of the larger issues, such as evolutionary biology, each case must be dealt through by interpreting the Bible since evolution cannot be interpreted. Darwin s theories are scientific truth, leaving no room for interpretation or creative manipulation. In this case, rabbis must take the biblical text and find ways to integrate it into science, lest there be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Hypothesis Testing The Boiler Room Stats Hypothesis Testing the Boiler Room Stats According to the manager four aspects require evaluation from the statistics gathered for the week of calls made in the boiler room. The four aspects are the basis for the hypothesis testing; the manager s suspicions are a) the null which are as follows: 1. Hypothesis Test One a) Null Hypothesis Ho=u Mean sales exceeds 41.5 sales per telemarketer b) Alternative Ha=u less than 55% receiving online training b) Alternative Ha=u or= 55% receiving online training 3. Hypothesis Test Three a) Null Hypothesis Ho=u Mean calls among no training is less than 145 b) Alternative Ha=u or= Mean calls among no training is 145 4. Hypothesis Test Four a) Null Hypothesis Ho=u Mean time per call ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For hypothesis test two the manager suspects less than 55% of the 100 telemarketers received online training. Looking at the type of training data; two types of training were offered and none at all, provides the three options. Therefore, if those receiving either group training or none at all total more than 45 telemarketers of the 100 sales people then the alternative hypothesis is accepted because there is sufficient evidence to support it. If the manager s suspicions are true: the null hypothesis that states there are less than 55% of the sales force who received online training is true then there must be sufficient evidence to support that statement. 20 of 100 callers have no training and 30 telemarketers received group training while 50 sales people received online training according to the Excel data sheet provided. Therefore, 50% either received no training or group training and 50% received online training. The manager s suspicions are supported. There is sufficient evidence to support the null hypothesis and therefore the alternative is false. With hypothesis test three the manager states the mean amount of calls made by those with no training is less than 145 calls per person for the week of data recorded. To prove the null; calls are less than 145 per person for those who are listed as no training or none, the total amount of calls for the week made by the none group are divided by the 20 telemarketers to compute the mean ... • 37. The Judiciary And The Federal Budget Poorly crafted statues almost always require future revision, sometimes in another moment of crisis. This type of law making tends to increase the power of executive agencies as well as the courts. Because the judiciary is forced to clarify legislation, to rule on its details and apply legislation to uncertain situations, vague legislation ends up allocating substantial power to the judiciary. Imprecise and open ended statues often increase to power of executive agencies, too. Such agencies are given broad mandates without much guidance or oversight. Decades ago, the US Congress would assign specific priorities and focuses to federal agencies when approving the yearly federal budget. This guidance is especially important because the legislature exerts little other control over independent agencies, like the Federal Trade Commission or the Federal Communications Commission. Now, because the federal budget is so often approved during crisis conditions (and sometimes merely extends the previous year s budget into the next), Congress offers little guidance to independent agencies. This enhances the power of independent agencies while leaving them without guidance. Unger s preferred mode of organizing politics would entail a substantial increase to the last minute compromises and revisions that cause such confusion. The courts, too, will be called upon to specify legislative details, meaning, and reach of legislation. Many scholars in the legal realism camp ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Paper Quality And Weight The way in which I have decided to break down this paper is that I will dedicate roughly a page to each literary journal, starting with the oldest and working my way through to the most recent. It is my intention to break down each book into sections: The Physical Aesthetic paying particular attention to the physical attributes that make up the magazine i.e. the cover, the font, the leading, the paper quality and weight, the use of space and layout. This should be at first analyzed void of content in order to have a clear and concise image in my mind, and in this essay as to what stands out and detracts from the physicality of the piece. The only time san serif font appears in the magazine is on the exterior covers, it brings up a question of consistency, it becomes visually jarring to go from san serif to serif throughout. Even if they had just chosen to make the embolden headers a san serif it would have brought th exterior throughout the interior and the magazine as a whole would look uniform. The change in paper quality for the section of art submissions is jarring, particularly because the glossed pages are so white versus the eggshell color of the rest of the book. Page 22 is a complete waste of space. Content Starting with the history of Grub Street street section, the font is distracting and needlessly decorative. The Staff section looks like a jumble. I have some problem with the table of contents just because it doesn t describe the actual way the magazine unfolds but since it s broken down by genre, its acceptable. Now onto the other content.
