Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The audience wants to know what’s hot and what’s not so when looking at the magazine they need to see the best storyline summed up within the picture. For example looking at this magazine you can already tell that something will go wrong at there wedding without even looking at the title.Yet another mini storyline but this picture and storyline is bigger than the others as this storyline is from the same soap as the big storyline on the magazine.The sub title tells the audience a little more than the main title, the main title is to draw the audience in, the sub title is to tell the audience a little more about the soap and interest them in buying the magazine.In these pictures and there storylines beside them, it tells the audience what else is happening in the other soaps it interests the reader tells then there not just getting on story there getting more.The title is a major part of any magazine as this tells the audience in a small sentence of what is going to happen within the storyline of the soap. It is what grabs the audience’s attention and draws them into reading.The pictures shown here are from different soaps that are not the main attraction on the from page. But are giving an insight to another soap without giving to much away.The bright colours attract the audience to how cheap the magazine is which attracts the audience to buy it over other magazines.<br />
