The magazine cover features actor Johnny Depp dressed in character from an upcoming film, making him the central focus. Short descriptive text highlights what is inside the magazine, including articles about Depp's new movie. The magazine's title appears behind Depp to emphasize him as the draw for readers while still identifying the publication. The background color and imagery were likely chosen to match the film's genre and tone.

1. The headline for this magazine takes up
only the top half of the page allowing for
the actor to take centre focus for the
front cover. It also allows for the title to
be displayed without anything else being
blocked off. The colours are subtle and
don't overwhelm the readers.
The sub text here allows for
the magazine to give a
description of what is inside,
this is essential for the
magazine to show readers
what is expected.
Johnny Depp is on the
front of the magazine as
he is the celebrity of a
new film that was coming
out. By putting the
Actor dressed up as their
character on the cover,
readers will be able to
get a glimpse into what
the film may be like.
The use of sell lines give
a brief introduction to
what the magazine
contains, this will then
attract readers.
The colouring used here (blues and greys)
relate to the character they’ve put on the
cover. The colours blue and grey connote
feelings of coldness and gloom which can
relate to the chosen person on the front
cover.
2. The actor is placed directly in
the centre of the magazine
making him the main focus. By
putting a famous actor onto
the cover those who are
familiar with their work are
likely to buy the magazine to
find out what other movies
the particular actor will star in.
The magazine title is behind
the picture of the actor. This
may be done to make the
actor the centre focus to gain
readers and that because it is a
known film magazine they
don't need to have the title
put across the front as people
can make out that it's a
magazine by 'Empire'.
The background for this
magazine is a picture of
clouds in a blue sky which
fades into black. This
creates a
thrilling/mysterious
impression but may have
been done to match the
genre of the film being
advertised.
The sell lines here are spread out on
the page and are made very large and
visible. This will be because the
magazine wants to sell copies as well as
promote the movie. The first thing
readers will see are the sell lines so by
making them the most visible they are
gaining attention and persuading
readers to buy the magazine.
The sub text here blends in
with the sell lines helping the
readers gain insight into what
else will be included within the
magazine.
3. The name of the magazine
takes up a large portion of the
page, this is done to promote
and advertise their magazine
but they put the actress in
front of the text to show
readers what the aim of this
particular print is about.
The chosen actress appears on this print in the
centre so that she is the main focus to the readers.
Having a well-known actress on the cover will
persuade people to buy the magazine.
The background of this magazine is a pink sky filled with lighting strikes. The
lighting strikes here may reflect the type of movie that's being advertised. The
pink here is very feminine and may have been used since there is a female on
the front cover, this can be seen as stereotypical seeing as they chose a ladylike
colour.
The sell lines here reflect the
character that has been chosen
for the article. They don't spill
much about the film but more
about the character. Audiences
who like the character and film
are more likely to pick this
magazine up.
The sub text here only takes up a
small part of the magazine. It gives
an insight into what the magazine
has to offer. It mentions different
genres of film that may appeal to
different audiences.
