Sister Callista Roy is a prominent nurse theorist known for developing the Adaptation Model of Nursing. [1] She was born in 1939 and is a member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet. [2] Roy developed the Adaptation Model while pursuing her master's degree under the mentorship of Dorothy Johnson. [3] The model views people as adaptive systems and was influenced by theories from biology, psychology, and sociology. [4] Roy's theory states that the goal of nursing is to promote adaptation in individuals and groups across four modes - physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence - to enhance health and quality of life.
