Roy's Adaptation Model views adaptation as the process by which individuals use conscious awareness and choice to create human and environmental integration. The model describes four adaptive modes - physiological, self-concept, role function, and interdependence - and how the use of regulator and cognator subsystems help individuals cope with environmental stimuli to achieve adaptation and health. The goal of nursing within this theory is to promote adaptation through these four modes to enhance clients' health, quality of life, and dignity.
