This paper presents a new single-phase matrix converter (SPMC) for improving input power factor by using a buck and boost rectifier topology. The design incorporates active pulse width modulation (APWM) to generate sinusoidal input currents and reduce harmonic distortion, offering a significant advantage over conventional rectifiers. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system in maintaining a high-power factor and minimizing total harmonic distortion compared to traditional methods.
