Reflection Papers
I have been teaching writing for many years. As a result, I have a variety of papers for students
to write that I know are possible for third graders to write. In addition, each year and group of
students is different so I adjust the papers they write based on the level of the group and the needs
of the individual student.
We work together on planning our papers through a step by step scaffolding process and modeling
so that students have assistance with the planning process. The next stage is for me to walk around
to monitor the students and determine what assistance they need. I check for understanding of the
assignment and make suggestions as needed and to confirm they will be able to write this paper.
During this time, I will assist them with any spelling issues they may have. In addition, I
conference one on one with each student and will help them with spelling during this time. Since
I don t teach spelling, this process has worked the best. Finally, I do teach cursive handwriting so
this is a skill that we work on weekly. My goal is to finish each of the letters in the first semester
and practice these skills in the second.
We are departmentalized so I am only able to see their work in writing and science. We do write a
science research paper on the animal of their choice which gives them the opportunity to apply their
writing skills to science. In addition, we write an instruction manual for a simple machine. My goal
is to integrate writing

Black Tar Heroin Epidemic Analysis
One of the only foreseeable problems of truth is the representation of the heroin epidemic as just
that an epidemic. Many people see heroin abuse as a choice which it is, initially and a crime that
should be punished, not necessarily treated. Hopefully, conversations with law enforcement and
medical professionals can provide objective, expert opinions that will balance with firsthand
accounts that the audience can empathize with. This approach will seek to strike a balance between
the personal and the professional to minimize that problem of truth . Supporting assertions with
evidence and expert testimony will put objectivity at the forefront of the documentary.
Much of the documentary will be based around interviews: interviews with ... Show more content

Black Tar Heroin(1999) is perhaps one of the best examples. Black Tar Heroin is an HBO piece
that focuses on the lives of five addicted young people and the poor decisions that arise as a result
of their abuse. While it gives some humanity to the issue of heroin addiction, it does not delve into
the overarching, underlying causes of the heroin problem in the same way that Mistakes on the
Lake will seek to. Mistakes on the Lake will be less of a slice of life piece, though it will
emphasize that anyone can get addicted to heroin. In 2016, the PBS documentary series
Frontline produced a two hour investigative episode called Chasing Heroin that sought to
educate people about addiction and reach the root of the opioid problem. Mistakes on the Lake
will focus more on the stories of individuals, and it will center specifically around the Northern
Ohio region. Chasing Heroin focuses on the big picture , the nation at large. While the issue of
heroin abuse and overdose obviously did not happen overnight, it is still a relatively new issue.
Most of the literature surrounding heroin does not focus on the source of the epidemic and the
real stories of those addicted to it. For the most part, books relating to heroin are fictionalized
accounts like Dopefiend or self help books that seek to help addicts in

The Importance Of Complex Catastrophe
The United States planning, support, and execution for complex catastrophe over the past 20 years
continues to evolve and improve through lesser, but as important, catastrophes. One of the first
evolutions was the creation of a cabinet level secretary to head the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) consolidated the responsibly of securing the United Statesin to one agency. This
allows DOD to interact with a strategic level peer on support rendered during a complex and non
complex catastrophe event. Unlike a non complex catastrophe a complex catastrophe would
rapidly overwhelm local authorities and well as National Guard assets. This requires the assistance
of Title 10 forces to and the capacity it brings to a national level catastrophe.

The Impact Of The European Union On The Common Security...
Many of the institutions within the European Union play a substantial role in formulating EU
foreign policy. The Common Security and Defense Policy, often referred to as the CSDP, was
created as a way for the EU member states to develop defense, military and crisis management
policies. The CSDP, which began as a Franco British initiative in 1998, was created as a major
component of the Common Security Foreign Policy of the European Union. In the years since its
inception, the CSDP has enabled the EU to gain power and become a world leader in the realm
of international security. Much of the common security and defense policy s success is due to
the capabilities and resources that are provided by the EU member states and world partners
such as NATO. As many of the European Union member states are members of both the CSDP
and NATO, the two organizations work side by side in order to accomplish Western security
goals. Britain had played a leading role in the EU common security and defense policy since it
was created. Since the vote in June 2016 to decide whether the British exit from the EU would
take place, many have wondered what Brexit would mean for the EU and its institutions. This
paper will examine and analyze the impact of Brexit on the EU Common Security and Defense
Policy. In order to truly understand how the UK s exit from the Union will impact the CSDP and
EU foreign relations, as a result of a change in the political landscape of the EU, one must first

The Value Of The Currency Alone Will Not Improve The Trade...
There are too many factors that may limit the growth needed to reach the balance to get out of debt.
Devaluing the currency alone will not improve the trade balance. Instead, there becomes a need to
limit the consumption. In the case of food imports, which accounts for about 12 percent of import
expenditure in Sri Lanka, the government expects the price increases to result in import
substitution, which will likely take time. The most forceful argument for devaluation is that it
ensures the competitiveness of exports. The question here is whether the extent of depreciation
would be adequate to ensure that the real effective exchange ratewould ensure competitiveness.
Again, there are some governments that do try to attempt to influence the value of their currency
by ways of intervention. The most notable offender in recent years is that of China, who has sought
to keep its currency undervalued to make Chinese exports more competitive against other heavily
traded Asian markets. They can do this by buying US dollar assets, which increases the value of the
US dollar to Chinese Yuan ratio. (Factors Which Influence the Exchange Rate) Because the current
financial status is so heavily dependent on exporting, the continuous management of the exchange
rate to ensure export competitiveness is essential for China and Sri Lanka. A reduction in exports
could affect the economy seriously as a decline in exports could affect economic growth,
employment and incomes. (Sanderatne)

The Godfather Conflict
This quote highlights the basis half of the plot and conflicts of the The Godfather, and half of
what led to it becoming the American classic it is. From 1972, this inspirational film explores a
highly romanticized version of the Italian mafioso culture. With most of the plot being split into
either family, business, or the conflicts when they overlap. this drama has to dig deep to hook
onto emotions that we can relate to. Based on Mario Puzo s novel, directed by Francis Ford Coppola
, and acted by both experts and amateurs alike, The Godfatherwas produced masterfully. While we
may not be able to identify with the overall business side of the story, we are able to do so with
the half closer to home. The exceptional usage of the three hours allows this film to not seem
rushed while having us hang onto every word. Personally, the part of the film that really sold this
as one of my top movies was the dual family/business nature of the most of the plot as well as how
Michael compared to Vito in being the Godfather.. The striking juxtaposition induces at least a few
questions about how a character may have handled an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Corleones steadily became more violent over the course of The Godfather, but this can be
attributed to the fact that the threat against their family is increasing. On the other hand, the
moment Vito is out of the picture, Michael offers to murder the family s enemies for revenge.
Even when Sonny is brutally peppered by bullets from a dozen Barzini buttonmen, Vito offers a
ceasefire opportunity. Michael simply had them all assassinated because it would be easier and
more efficient overall. We see here that the father son morality split is why this movie is such an
inspiration and a model for power struggles in general. The independent leadership styles of the
latest Godfather make it very clear that like father, like son can be staggeringly wrong at

Analysis Of Ben Johnson And Christopher Marlow Essay
Now, you all know about the famous playwright William Shakespeare. However, do you know
about the other famous play writers of the time? Now, your reaction might be, Wait, huh? There
were other playwrights during Shakespeare s time? Yes there were, and they were actually quite
famous. Two of the most prominent ones were Ben Johnson and Christopher Marlow. Today, we
mainly focus on Shakespeare and his works. However, each of these men were making plenty of
moolah back in the day. They even each other and had very light rivalries. I will be talking about
these two men s works and how they affected Elizabethan drama. (Volunteer doopededoo) So, let
s start with Ben Johnson. This man was first born in London, England in 1572, just nine years
after Shakespeare was born. Shortly after little Ben was born, his dear sweet father died. His
mother, being, you know, poor, remarried a bricklayer. Ben would then go to the St. Martin s
Parish school and learn about many classical figures, such as the scholar William Camden. After
graduating, Ben became a bricklayer, just like his new father! Yet, he didn t really like this too
much, so he went to serve in the military at Flanders. Yet, he didn t really like this either. So, he
decided to be an actor instead! Ben was finally on the road to making some great literary works!
In 1594, Ben married Anne Lewis and had too beautiful children. Besides this, we don t know
much about his family. Ben described his wife as

Argumentative Essay On Offshore Oil
While there are many benefits to offshore oil drilling, there are just as many detriments. Many
people believe that even with expanded offshore drilling, world oil prices will not be greatly
affected. If it s not going to save us money than why should we even consider spending the money
to do it? To build an offshore drilling facility is very expensive and many countries do not have the
resources or budget to take on such a huge investment. If a country does not have oil and petroleum
resources, it will not be able to drill offshore. Because of this, offshore drilling will not be equally
distributed around the world.
There are many environmental hazards that come along with offshore oil drilling, including
pollution and the risk of oil spills. Expanding offshore drilling will increase carbon dioxide
emissions, increasing temperatures globally. This has been a continuing issue for decades that
does not need to be increased any more than it already has. Since petroleum is the main cause of
air pollution in the world today, pollution is an ever increasing problem of this industry. The only
way to truly address this pollution problem is to stop increasing expansion of offshore drilling. ...

Unbiased Education In Dystopian Societies
Looking back at the past few years of books, you might notice a pattern: dystopian societies. I m
sure that the entire population has to have at least heard about the Hunger Games, Divergent, or
any number of other titles. Yet, have you ever given any thought whatsoever to imagining
yourself in one of those broken societies? I, for one hadn t thought much about it, despite reading
all of the most recent must reads. It brings up an interesting question: what would you be willing
to stand up for, to risk your life for, to ________ for? After looking around my house and
skimming through my mental history of the world, I decided I would fight for the freedom of
speech, the right to an unbiased education, and freedom of religion. The first thing I would rebel

Of course, this means that I would also rebel for the right to a basic education but I feel more than
that. When I say an unbiased education, I mean one where the student learns facts about the world
around them. They wouldn t be just learning the material a certain group or government wanted
them to learn, but they would know definite, indisputable facts about the world around them. This
is incredibly important because if a person isn t aware of something then how would they be able
to think for himself? I thought of this cause remembering the practices of the Nazis in Hitler Youth
groups. 97% of all teachers were part of the Nazis Teachers Union. These children s entire education
was skewed towards the perfect Germany: Aryan supremacy, lebensraum, anything really. Even the
math problems gave examples that casually mentioned bombing Jews. The important thing here is
that it is the only thing they knew (Nazi Education). Obviously, it is incredibly horrifically, wrong,
but when you learn something from a young age and learn it so completely it s difficult to
recognize that. It is vital that learning remains unbiased and strictly

Hunger Games Movie Analysis
CLOSE UPS The movie that I chose to analyze is The Hunger Games. This movie is about a girl,
Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute for the seventy fourth annual Hunger Games in the
place of her sister, Primrose Everdeen, whose name was picked and announced at the reaping.
Katniss, the protagonist played by Jennifer Lawrence, is forced to go outside of her comfort
zone when she has to make friends and train to kill people in order to win the Games and come
home to her sister, Primrose, who is played by Willow Shields. The Hunger Games was directed
by Gary Ross and was released on March 23rd, 2012. The year that this movie was made, a
Canadian filmmaker, named James Cameron, became the first person to visit Challenger Deep,
the US President Barack Obama secured Democratic presidential nomination, and The Avengers
premiered in Los Angeles. Watching this movie, now in 2017, still gives me the same feeling it
did when I watched it for the first time in 2012. I can see that the cast and crew for The Hunger
Games were picked out carefully. That being said, I thought this movie was marvelous. The crew
did a great job with the elements used in determining the type of movie, mise en scene,
cinematography, acting, editing, and sound. There are many types of movies, such as narrative
movies, documentary movies, and experimental movies. This movie is an example of a narrative
movie. This movie is fiction and entertains most people. Narrative films may be broken down into

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X By Alex Haley Essay
Malcolm X had a very interesting life and there were several aspects that affected his views of
American society. In The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley, the three main things
that effected Malcolm s life was his arrival in the city of Boston, the conk he received, and his
brother Reginald. These three symbols changed his life forever. Also all of them were
connected as well. Malcolm X, being from Lansing, Michigan, never expected his life to change
as drastically as it did. Growing up in Lansing, Malcolm was exposed to the negative parts of the
city. He even predicted his own death to happen due to violence since most of his family was
victims of violence. In Lansing, hardly any black man died from natural causes. In chapter one
of the book, Malcolm stated that his father, Earl Little, had seen four of his six brothers die by
violence, three of them killed by white men, including one by lynching. When Malcolm s mother
found out that Malcolm s father was murdered, she had a mental breakdown. For several months,
she had been doing things out of the ordinary and Malcolm began to worry about her. She
eventually was sent to the mental illness home where she spent the rest of her life. All of the
children were separated and this gave Malcolm the perception that now his family has been a
victim to society. In the summer of 1940, Malcolm spends the entire summer with his sister Ella
who had been living in the city of Boston. Seeing how much better life was for the

Technological advances in our world over the past decade have impacted our society
tremendously. With these advances have come new social media websites that people all

Othello And Iago Relationship Analysis
One of the major components in Othello, that Shakespeare incorporated throughout the play, is
relationships. These relationships are driven by different motivations and give each individual
something unique. Each character contributes disparate factors to their relationships and change
from scenario to scenario. The presentation of different relationships in Othellorepresents many of
the underlying motifs of the play. Othello and Iagos relationship, the most prominent relationship,
represents the duality of the play. Othello believes that Iago is helping him and guiding him to
be a better person; however, Iago is using Othello to get his way. Iago is annoyed that he didn t
receive promotion from general Othello ( Relationships in Othello ). Iago is dissatisfied with
Othello s choice because he believes he deserves the promotion. Iago becomes vengeful and
devises a plan to enact his revenge. I follow him to serve my turn upon him (Shakespeare). Iago
is shown to only serve Othello for his own purposes. Othello cannot see through the facade that
Iago has put up and follows him blindly. Othello trusts Iago totally as Iago has a reputation in
Venice for being very honest ( Relationships in Othello ). Moreover, Othello calls Iago Honest Iago
on multiple occasions in the play. Othello is shown to believe that Iago is honest and trustworthy
by Shakespeare to emphasize the duality of the relationship between Iago and Othello. Their
relationship is a major aspect in

Xenophon Is Not A Law Code In The Spartan Constitution
The Spartan Constitution was written by Xenophon, a man who was not born in Sparta, but was
living in Sparta when he composed this document. This document Is not a law code in itself, but
was created with the purpose to describe the laws and the social structure that the Spartans had
already been following. In essence, Xenophon composed this document to highlight the reforms that
Lycurgus had previously established. Xenophon s accounts of the political and social reforms
initiated by Lycurgus depicts a state that was highly advanced and disciplined. The purpose of
Xenophon writing a document about reforms that were already being practiced, was to emphasize
how advanced Spartawas compared to other major Greek city states. This ultimately shows that
there was tremendous disunity between Sparta and other major Greek cities in this time period. In
the Spartan Constitution, Xenophon explained how the state of Sparta not only controlled its
citizens from birth to death, but also attempted to control the quality of offspring produced. In the
document, Xenophon mentioned a law that detailed how often a man and wife could sleep
together. He also highlighted the requirement of physical fitness for both males and females to
produce the finest offspring. These laws stressed the states acceptance for only a particular type of
citizen, one that could have been of use to the states military and therefore contributed to the
prosperity of Sparta. Both of these reforms that were

Nurture Controversy
The biggest controversy in psychology today is whether genetics or one s environment plays a
role in the behavior of the individual. Psychologists have researched and developed different
theories to explain the reason for the way humans think and behave. The behavior of individuals is
either inherited or learned. In my opinion, I believe that nurture plays a big role in the individual s
behavior. Kendra Cherry states, Nurture refers to all the environmental variables that impact who
we are, including our early childhoodexperiences, how we were raised, our social relationships, and
our surrounding culture (1). People have become who there are because of the environment they
were exposed to in their childhood years. The behavior of people is influenced be the environment

Adults who were raised in a home with both parents usually have better relationships with their
love ones and tend to stay married for a long time. The trend of having both parents in a

grow up in abusive environments and think it is fine to abuse someone or to be abused as a result
they end up coming violent person and commit a violent crime. Marisa Mauro says, In seeing the
life patterns, I cannot help but wonder if these men, now incarcerated, would have led productive
lives if their environments were different (2009). Without the help of counselling services, the
abusive and violent behavior will never end, even if they engage in new relationships. Counselling
services may help because anything that is learned can be modified.

Fort Sumter is located in Charleston, South Carolina. The fort is in Charleston s harbor. The fort

The Goal By Eliyahu M. Veldt
The Goal, a fictional novel written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, introduces the reader to a plant manager
of a production plant within the UniCo Manufacturing group, Alex Rogo, who is experiencing
consistent problems in meeting targeted production levels. Faced with an ultimatum, ta turn his
plant profitable in three months, Rogo seeks guidance from a distant acquaintance of his, Jonah, an
old physics professor. This consultancy introduces concepts that will constitute cornerstones of
Rogo s strategy to turn the plant around. These concepts are also applied successfully by Rogo in
the alternative story line of his marital life. When reaching out to Jonah, Rogo is to some extent
perplexed of why the plant is not performing as expected, he is instructed to define the true goal of
the firm. After contemplation, Rogo managed, with help of one of his accountants, to expand the
ultimate goal to make money into essentially three categories: to increase net profit, while
simultaneously increasing return of investment, while simultaneously increasing cash flow . The
measures, as outlined by Jonah, of this overarching goal were; Throughput, Inventory and
Operational Expense. Throughput refers to the rate at which the system generates cash from sales,
Inventory is defined as the total money invested in purchasing things intended to sell, whereas
Operational Expense is the cost associated with turning inventory into throughput. These
measurements as defined in the Goal differ in

Riverdale Character Analysis
Riverdale is an American television program that is based primarily on the Archie comics which
were first released in the 1940 s. The comics focus largely on a love triangle between the three
main characters, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Archie Andrews. Unlike the television show,
Betty and Veronica see one another as frenemies and are constantly at odds over Archie, who is
never at fault for any of the mishaps that happen. The Archie comicswere never big advocates of
feminism and instead focused primarily on Archie and the two female characters invented to fight
over him, cementing the idea that girls are only around to win boys affection. In contrast,
Riverdale the television show focuses on Betty and Veronica as friends instead of frenemies and
builds upon the idea that girls are smart, capable, and are stronger when they work together. The
new television spin on the original comics brings together the old characters and main plot points
and puts an innovative feminist attitude towards them to mesh them with the beliefs and issues of
today s society. The characters in this show are much more than the typical jock, nerd, good, bad
stereotypes that are commonly depicted in teenage dramas viewed on the television today. The
women of Riverdale prove that for positive change to take place, friendship must take precedent
and sticking together as girls is the most important aspect of driving forward social change. In the
series premiere, the audience is first introduced

Essay on Fourth Crusade
Role of the Papacy in the 4th Crusade
The fourth Crusade was one of the most astonishing turn of events during the Middle Ages. Each
Crusade was called for one purpose, to reconquer the Holy Land from the Muslims. With that in
mind, the fourth Crusade was disaster, not only failing to get anywhere near Jerusalem but then to
attack and conquer two Christian cities, which had been unprecedented to this time. When
discussing these points in history, it is important to discuss how such events came to be, and whilst
the sacking of Zara and Constantinople are not in question, what is in question is how much of a
role did Pope Innocent III did play in the 4th Crusade? Was he the mastermind, or was control of
the 4th Crusade taken from him? This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Crusaders, led by Boniface Montferrat, were unable to pay the money demanded from the
Venetians for the fleet they were constructing, so Doge Enrico Dandolo compromised and decided
that payment would be postponed in return for the capture of Zara, a rival city located on the coast
of Dalmatia. Although the Crusaders weren t particularly fond of the idea of being in debt, the
knights felt honour bound to agree to the terms to get the Crusade on track and in motion, despite
being forced to attack a Christian city.
A fleet of over 200 ships set out in October 1202 and arrived to the city in less than a month, at
which point the city fell in five days and surrendered in less than two weeks. Even though Zara
was a Christian city, the Crusaders still pillaged the city, and to the outcry of Pope Innocent,
excommunicated those that had taken part in the ransacking. The Pope s anger, and very hard
stance on any Crusader that was a part of the pillage suggests that the Pope was not informed and
aware of the decision to attack the Christian city.
With the city of Zara safely in their hands, the Crusaders began to take stock of their provisions,
and soon found that the although they receieved adequate amounts of food and supplies, it would
not be enough to journey to Egypt as planned. Nobody expected the Fourth Crusade to be in such a
financial state, and were soon faced with a difficult decision, to return home, or to continue to
Constantinople. Eventually they come to

Attachment Styles Influence Relational Patterns Between A...
Attachment styles influence relational patterns between a married couple and their children. These
attachment relational patterns known as anxious, avoidant, and secure base styles are a product of
the interactions experienced in early childhood with their caregivers. It affects people s
intercommunication with others all through their life span. Individuals attachment style involves a
systematic pattern of relational assumptions, emotions, and behavior that develop from the
subjective constructs definitive of attachment experiences throughout their lives. Negative
relational patterns increase the likelihood of marital violence in the home. When experiencing
stress related life issues, conflicts may arise due to substandard communication skills leading to
physical violence, aggressiveness, resulting in harsh spousal disputes. A positive upswing in marital
and family harmony occurs when healthy communication skills develop along with secure based
attachment characteristics, such as, humility, gratitude, and forgiveness of self and others. These
characteristics provide coping mechanisms that establish a positive self identity and healthy social
interaction with others. As the anxious and avoidant relational styles exercise these positive
characteristics, in time, they develop a positive view of self and others while learning to work
through life stressors, which benefit the marriage and family. Introduction Relationships between

Mr Darcy Quotes And Analysis
13 February 2018 The Meaning of Letters In 2018, many forms of technology such as the computer,
iPhone, and social media apps allow many people to stay connected with one another every day. In
fact, many people incorporate technology into their house and workplace. As technology continues
to grow, the meaning of words communicated through technology seems to stretch farther from the
truth. In other words, as technology has become more readily available to public, more people have
communicated less about how they actually feel. However, before any of the common types of
technology were invented, many people relied on letters for honest communication. Letters were

Darcy s letter to Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy s character such as his gentle nature, social class belief,
and his gentlemen personality are uncovered. In chapter 35, Mr. Darcy said, I had detached Mr.
Bingley from your sister, and the other, that I had, in defiance of various claims, in defiance of
honour and humanity, ruined the immediate prosperity and blasted the prospects of Mr.
Wickham., I am under the necessity of relating feelings which may be offensive to yours, I can
only say that I am sorry (Austen). Before this letter, Elizabeth viewed Mr. Darcy as a cold and
overconfident person that purposely separated Mr. Bingley and Jane. However, this quote
reveals that it was not his intention to purposefully separate Mr. Bingley from Jane; he
convinced Mr. Bingley that Jane did not have romantic feelings towards him. Furthermore, this
quote reveals his gentle nature and love towards Elizabeth because he sincerely apologizes to
Elizabeth for causing her distress. In the middle of his letter to Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy said, The
situation of your mother s family, though objectionable, was nothing in comparison to that total
want of propriety so frequently, so almost uniformly betrayed by herself, by your three younger
sisters, and occasionally even by your father (Austen). This quote reveals that Mr. Darcy
believes in the importance of social classes and appearances to fit society. Even though he
believes that Elizabeth belongs to a crazy family, he explained how he views Elizabeth separate
from her embarrassing family. Even though the difference in social classes would keep an
average couple apart, Mr. Darcy s and Elizabeth s love is so strong that they overlook their
differences in social class. Towards the end of the letter, Mr. Darcy said, I thought too ill of him
to invite him to Pemberley, or admit his society in town. In town I believe he chiefly lived, but

Between 1948 and 1959, there was much opposition to Apartheid after its execution in 1948 by the

would be no doubt that some form of opposition would be present. The opposition came in forms of
the ANC and PAC primarily, two resistance parties in support of the improvement of Blacks

A Comparison Of My Fair Lady And My Fair Lady
After reading Ovid s original myth Pygmalion and Galatea , Shaw was disappointed with it and
decided to take pen to paper and create his own version of the story, thus Shaw s Pygmalion was
created. The story follows the quest of a young girl, Eliza Doolittle, to transform into a lady
because of a bet made by Henry Higgins, a gentleman who is knowledgeable in phonetics. Eliza is
successfully able to shape herself into a lady however, the book does not end with happy union of
Higgins and Eliza rather a deep animosity between them. In George Cukors musical My Fair Lady
diverges from Shaw s original play, and has Higgins and Eliza end up together. Therefore ending of
My Fair Lady is a vulgar travesty of the play s design, as Nicholas Grene writes because it
undermines Eliza s transformation and it is not a logical ending.
Eliza s transformation is something that happens of the course of the play in order for that
transformation to hold true Eliza needed to decide not to marry Higgins. Shaw even calls the
play a romance in five acts because of Eliza s transformation. After the ambassador s garden
party, the bet is deemed a success because the host and the guests of the party believe that she is
a lady. Even Nepommuck, Higgins apprentice who has surpassed him, firmly believes that Eliza
produces an air of divine light... [and that] She is a princess (Shaw 72). The host and hostess
both agree on this, which is meant to signify the success of Eliza s transformation. However,
Eliza s success at the garden party is not the true ending of her transformation. The true ending of
her transformation is when Eliza stands up for herself and defies Higgins thus becoming a true
lady. During the entirety of Eliza s six months of training under Higgins, he treats her
atrociously. Upon her arrival, he threatens to kick her out and assaulted her with a barrage of
insults such as squashed cabbage leaf and guttersnipe . He did not treat Eliza like a lady, as a result,
she did not feel like a lady. On the other hand, Pickering always treated her like a lady and she
gained self respect from that. Eliza explains that the difference between a flower girl and a maiden
is how she s treated because Pickering always treats

Blackfoot Tribe Research Paper
The Blackfoot or Blackfeet tribe is a Native American tribe that is located in the Great Plains. The
differentiation between Blackfeet or Blackfoot is depending on your culture and where you re at in

therefore the proper pronunciation is Blackfoot. The Blackfoot tribe is made up of three bands or
sub tribes; the Siskins, Kainah, and the Piegans. The three subtribes intermarried. The tribe,
together, shared cultural events and fought the same enemies, but were independent clans and did
not share the same chief. There are different theories as to why the united subtribes pick the name
Blackfoot. It was known that the tribe wore black moccasins to distinguish their tribe from others.

support their results about the effect of folic acid fortification on NTDs (Chen et al., 2008).
This data showed that although there was a declining in NTDs prevalence in prefortification,
the NTDs prevalence did not continue to decline in postfortifcation (Chen et al., 2008). Hence,
this study s results conflict with the results of De Wals et al s study which claimed that folic
acid fortification decreases the NTDs prevalence after the full fortification period (De Wals et
al., 2008). Another study was conducted in Chile by Cortes et al, and this study s aim was
similar to De Wals et al s aim which was whether there is an impact of folic acid fortification on
NTDs prevalence or not (Cortes et al., 2012). The researchers held an observation program in a
specific hospital to detect the rate of occurrence of NTDs in stillbirths and livebirths (Cortes et al.,
2012). The researchers showed that total NTDs prevalence decreased from prefortification period
to postfortification period, and the reduction of spina bifida was about 52% in postfortification
(Cortes et al., 2012). Therefore, this study is one of the studies that

The First Meditation By Rene Descartes
Topic: How does Descartes argue that mind and body are distinct? Is he right? Am I real, or
imaginary? In the First Meditation, Rene Descartes presents the main falsehoods in which he
believed during his life, and the subsequent faultiness he experienced concerning the body of
knowledge. The philosopher considers that it is never too late to rethink the knowledge about
his personal being from the very foundations, and builds his thoughts on a certain ground starting
from common things. It would be impossible to doubt each thing separately, so he expresses his
doubt to the basic principles of knowledge he has already gained, since a conclusion would
surely be doubted if its premise was doubted. He starts by doubting basic senses, by comparing
feels in reality vs. in dreams. For example, even if I consciously feel warm when I am walking in
the sun, I could not claim that I am hundred В‐percentage sure I am awake, since I would feel it
the same way when I was in dreams. Descartes presents this idea to show the doubt of reality and
its elements. Also, he concludes that the common things we perceive are fashioned, and knowledge
based on that can be doubted, such as physics and astronomy. This category of knowledge are
different from geometry and arithmetic, which contain certain and definiteness in the simplest
thing. By doubting the sense and knowledge based on it, Descartes argued his approach that the
body and mindare two absolutely distinctive things. Descartes mentions God

Sandro Botticelli s Annunciation
In Sandro Botticelli s The Annunciation, 1485, the biblical scene of the angel Gabriel greeting
Mary is shown. The angel tells Mary she is expecting a child that is the Son of God. Botticelli s
uses space in The Annunciation to separate Mary and the angel Gabriel as well as combine the
space for a completed scene. The scene takes place inside a church. Maryis on the right side in an
private chapel. She facing the left and bowing to show respect to God. The angel is on the left
side bowing toward the right. The angel is standing in an ambulatory with a column running right
between the figures. The painting is done in tempera and gold on wood. The painting is very flat
and matte because of the tempera paint. The gold is used to form a halo... Show more content on

Again, Mary is on the right side on the painting. Botticelli is using the biblical motif to foreshadow
Christ being born. Christ is the right hand of God, so even the annunciation of his coming must be
holy and divine. While there is no bible evidence, many believe the angel Gabriel sat at the left
hand of God. Rabbi David Cooper says the angel is connected with the attribute of Gevorah on
the left side of the Tree of Life. Whereas Michael is on God s right hand, Gabriel is on God s left
hand. The left hand is the one that metes out punishment; the right hand overrules strict justice
and is more merciful and thus more lenient (p. 45). Botticelli seems to agree with the theory of
Gabriel sitting at God s left hand by the placement on the angel. While the does have a column
directly diving the space, the gaps between the columns and the walk way into the chapel
combines the two sections. Botticelli seems to be inferring for the angel to walk into the chapel
and see Mary. The figures are also bowing toward one another. Not only are they bowing because
they are in the house of God, but they seem to acknowledge one another in their bowing. If one
would draw a line of the figures line of vision the lines would intersect at the walk way between
the columns. Therefore while Mary and Gabriel are in different rooms of the church they can see
and are interacting with one

Australian Defence Policy Essay
The discourse surrounding an appropriate defence policy in Australia has been an intense debate,
extending back to the beginning of the 20th century. Stemming from the Creswell Foster divide has
emerged two sides, the state centric, geostrategic concept of the Defence of Australia and the
alliance centric concept of the Security Based Defence . As well as these policy approaches is the
statecoercive notion of puritive deterrence .
The following paper aims to compare and contrast the main arguments regarding Austalian defence
policy, through the relevance of geo strategic location and gobalisation. It will appraise the three
aforementioned options of defence policy, as presented by Paul Dibbs, Michael Evans, and Ross
Babbage and will then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They state that transnational issues...are not always military problems, but military resources may
prove useful to monitoring, controlling or recovering from them. They later go on to say that the
armed forces may be required to coordinate their operations with humanitarian relief organisations ,
as non state actors influence their warfighting.
Peter Dean and Ken Gleiman of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), have also noted
the revised role of the ADF in combating these unconventional threats, which has led to
amphibious forces across the globe being deployed to support a range of operations, including
assaults, raids, withdrawals and demonstrations. These forces have been used in counter piracy
operations in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean, and against radical groups such as Al Shabaab in
Somalia.
It is thus evident that globalisation has had a great impact on defence policy, due to the emergence
and increased danger of non state actors, highlighting a need to revise policy formulation in order to
combat the threats they pose.
Conclusion
By assessing the relevance that geostrategic location and globalisation have on Australian defence
policy, this paper has been able to compare the stances of Paul Dibbs, Michael Evans and Ross
Babbage, and note their strengths and

Conducting The HRDNI
It is important to remember when conducting the HRDNI, that there are three forces that
investigators must be aware of:
1.Organisational politics
2.Espoused theory; and
3.Organisational defence mechanisms.
In the case of RNC, staff have not been provided with adequate support or training to be able to
develop the necessary skills to perform duties to the required standard. Organisations that
understand the importance of having a committed and capable workforce helps the organisation
achieve their strategic goals and. Implementation of organisational learning processes and human
resources management is often neglected (Tortorella Fogliatto 2014).

HRDNI is used to identify the gap between the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As part of the HRDNI process, learning development and training opportunities support the
organisation achieving the organisations strategies as it can help to improve organisational, team
and individual performance ( Armstorng and Baron 2002 cited in Neale 2004).
6.Define the learning outcomes and learning objectives
It is important to remember that the HRDNI should be future focused, positive and linked to
competencies and qualifications that are required to perform the functions of the job to the highest
standard. In this instance, administrative staff need to be familiar with the office suite of products
and also outlook and general office management. The manager and coordinator, require skills at
diploma or higher level so that they have a comprehensive understanding of the positions and how
to perform the functions required of them.
HRDNI report needs to document carefully and completely the HRDNI report issues. They should
be presented as a hierarchy of outcomes and associated objectives to assist the HRD to design the
learning experience later on (Delahaye 2011). If qualifications are needed, these need to be
described fully and linked to the Australian Quality Training

A Brief Definition Of A Hero
What is a hero? Let me define that for you. A hero is a person, who is admired or idealized for
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. You may not know or see it, but there is
heroes in everyday life. I know, shocking right! There are heroes everywhere you go, school, work,
even Walmart! You may not see them, but it doesn t mean they aren t there. A hero
is any person who
overcomes a challenge and is always there for you through thick and thin. There are a lot of things
a hero can do to become or show that he/she is a hero.
Well I bet you are wondering what are some examples that make a regular person, just like you, a
hero. A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. Joseph
Campbell. This means that a hero has given his/her life to put somebody or something that is
important before his/her self. A coward gets scared and quits. A hero gets scared, but still goes
on, Anonymous. This means that even when a hero is scared he never gives up, he still keeps
going on. A hero helps people, like if you see an old lady carrying a bunch of bags, a hero would go
up to her and offer to help her carry them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If somebody is selfish then they couldn t be a hero because a selfish person is someone who
wants everything for themselves, unlike a hero. For example a hero would share his/her food
with someone who is starving so therefor he/she is not selfish. If somebody is evil, he/she couldn
t be a hero because heroes want to help others. People who are just evil want to hurt people
instead of help them. If a person is mean to somebody then he/she cannot be a hero because a hero
is always nice to one another even if the person wants to hurt them. That to me shows true colors

Apologetics New Generation
Review 3: Sean McDowell, Apologetics for a New Generation (Harvest House, 2009)
SUMMARY
Apologetics for a New Generation is a compilation of essays from some of the greatest Christian
minds geared towards answering the question: How do we use apologetics effectively to reach the
new generations? It is clear that large numbers of youngsters view Christianity negatively.
Relativism and postmodernism have eroded the mindset and values in our culture. Therefore, the
immutable truths of Christianity need to be pitched differently to the current generation.
Apologetics is more important than ever, but the manner in which we deliver truth is equally
important: Christians must build relationships in the context of love, civility, wisdom and kindness

We need to retell the stories of old, the stories of Scripture and of Jesus Resurrection in ways that
captivate the modern mind without compromising truth. This statement from Brian Godawa
summarizes my take away from the book: The one who can tell the best story, in a very real
sense, wins the epoch (131). As a left sided brain engineer (and not unlike Godawa), I expected
my logical syllogisms to be devastating to atheism and that after seeing the undeniable logic in
them, unbelievers would come to Christ in hordes. I am well aware that is unlikely to happen. I
am convinced that the days when masses walk down the aisles in football stadiums to receive
Christ are long gone. With the advent of relativism, postmodernism, and mass media, the modern
apologist should adopt a distinct approach. From Apologetics for a New Generation and past
experience I believe there are tree winning strategies for the modern apologist to win the new
generations : (1) Storytelling: both Jesus and the Apostle Paul had the gift of storytelling. They
took fact, encapsulated it in a context relevant and captivating story, and delivered it to those
willing to hear. They were interesting, engaging, and truthful. They knew their culture and how to
engage it. We

Adam And Eve Loss Of Knowledge Essay
The tale of Adam and Eve, an infamous account in the book of Genesis, depicts man s original
disobedience in eating of the Tree of Knowledge and serves as humankind s first archetype of the
innate relationship between lost innocence and the attainment of knowledge. As portrayed in the
story, God s severe punishment of Adam and Evefor consuming the forbidden fruit insinuates that
it is wrong to desire knowledge, more specifically, the knowledge of humanity s potential for good
and evil. The resultant loss of innocence from gaining this moral comprehension is all too
frequently regarded as sinful, undesirable, and ultimately regrettable. The concept however, of
pursuing a greater understanding of the natures of others and oneself is not fundamentally wrong
as it expresses a kind of valuable moral growth. As evidenced by further analysis of the story of
Adamand Eve, it is apparent that although acquiring knowledge does... Show more content on

In the case of Adam and Eve, the two became gradually more knowledgeable after eating the fruit
and were forced to depart from the childlike innocence that they had experienced in the Garden of
Eden. This same departure is further illustrated by the responsibilities that children are assigned
once they begin to mature. No longer are they solely accountable for their own person, but their
actions must also reflect consideration for the well being of those around them as they now have
the ability to reflect upon issues outside of themselves. This erasure of ignorance is of great
importance as it now allows for the construction of moral dimension within mankind. The
consumption of the fruit symbolizes the acquirement of a wealth of moral knowledge for Adam and
Eve and the recognition of their individual obligations in human

Some of their ideas are that the government should give a full time doctor and medical facility to
the disposal of the tribe, also to provide them work within the plant and a paycheck every week.
Another option is to lay down roads that connect the region to the mainland and then provide
permanent housing for all members of the tribe. Unfortunately, many African governments are
known for being unfair and uncivilized, and even corrupt, so how are we to know that they
Kiyuku tribe would ever see any of the money or other benefits they are being offered? What is to
say they don t keep the money for themselves and give away the housing and medical to other
civilians in the country and not the tribe people? Many people are lead to wonder if the tribal
leaders are fully aware of the ramifications tied to the plans that Colney and Pitts are offering them.
For thousands of years this tribe has thrived in this land, without the need for money, doctor
training, permanent housing. One thing is perfectly career with regards to the Kiyuku and its
people, they have been surviving without the modern technology in medicine, without machine
driven construction of their homes and without farm hands and tractors to grow their food. They

Why is the tropical rainforest in crisis and what can be done about it?
The tropical rainforest is located all around the world. For example, the Amazon Rainforest, the
Colombian Rainforest and other small rainforests located in Central America. In 1990, rainforests
were plentiful however until 2010, around an eighth of all the rainforests were cut down. The
rainforest is mostly endangered by human interaction and climate change. Forests are undergoing
deforestation and are changed into non productive forests which are forests that are cut in such a
way they produce minimal trees per year. Also, mining usually occurs in the rainforest which
causes erosion on the trees and its growth. Dams can be found in tropical rainforests which causes
flooding.

The Count Of Monte Cristo Analysis
The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas is an adventure and historical fiction novel that
encompasses forgiveness, power, and vengeance. The story follows the adventure of Edmond
DantГЁs, who dedicated the rest of his life to getting vengeance on the men who crossed him.
Critics Justin Kaplan and Bryan Aubrey both explain their views on Dumas work, in great detail.
Kaplan, in Treasure and Vengeance, speaks of his own life, and connects it with Dumas work.
Aubrey, in his critical essay, on the other hand analyzes Dumas piece strictly based upon Edmond s
morality. In Treasure and Vengeance, Justin Kaplan speaks about The Count of Monte Cristo
in the
highest regard. After a brief back story on himself, he quickly transitions into connecting it with
the book itself. Kaplan claims that in a singular sense, [Edmond s] motive was disinterested: not
the means to anything else and with no purpose other than its own fulfillment (Kaplan). This is a
key aspect in Kaplan s criticism. He adds that his revenge, driven by the festering sense of
injustice is what drives Edmond throughout the story (Kaplan). The whole story revolves around
DantГЁs dire need to get revenge on Fernand, as well as others who have crossed him. In fact,
the Count himself says that for all evils there are two remedies time and silence (Dumas 523). His
sole mission is to retaliate against Mondego, who was the cause of his wrongful conviction. He
intends to get his revenge for his own needs

  • 2. Reflection Papers I have been teaching writing for many years. As a result, I have a variety of papers for students to write that I know are possible for third graders to write. In addition, each year and group of students is different so I adjust the papers they write based on the level of the group and the needs of the individual student. We work together on planning our papers through a step by step scaffolding process and modeling so that students have assistance with the planning process. The next stage is for me to walk around to monitor the students and determine what assistance they need. I check for understanding of the assignment and make suggestions as needed and to confirm they will be able to write this paper. During this time, I will assist them with any spelling issues they may have. In addition, I conference one on one with each student and will help them with spelling during this time. Since I don t teach spelling, this process has worked the best. Finally, I do teach cursive handwriting so this is a skill that we work on weekly. My goal is to finish each of the letters in the first semester and practice these skills in the second. We are departmentalized so I am only able to see their work in writing and science. We do write a science research paper on the animal of their choice which gives them the opportunity to apply their writing skills to science. In addition, we write an instruction manual for a simple machine. My goal is to integrate writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Black Tar Heroin Epidemic Analysis One of the only foreseeable problems of truth is the representation of the heroin epidemic as just that an epidemic. Many people see heroin abuse as a choice which it is, initially and a crime that should be punished, not necessarily treated. Hopefully, conversations with law enforcement and medical professionals can provide objective, expert opinions that will balance with firsthand accounts that the audience can empathize with. This approach will seek to strike a balance between the personal and the professional to minimize that problem of truth . Supporting assertions with evidence and expert testimony will put objectivity at the forefront of the documentary. Much of the documentary will be based around interviews: interviews with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black Tar Heroin(1999) is perhaps one of the best examples. Black Tar Heroin is an HBO piece that focuses on the lives of five addicted young people and the poor decisions that arise as a result of their abuse. While it gives some humanity to the issue of heroin addiction, it does not delve into the overarching, underlying causes of the heroin problem in the same way that Mistakes on the Lake will seek to. Mistakes on the Lake will be less of a slice of life piece, though it will emphasize that anyone can get addicted to heroin. In 2016, the PBS documentary series Frontline produced a two hour investigative episode called Chasing Heroin that sought to educate people about addiction and reach the root of the opioid problem. Mistakes on the Lake will focus more on the stories of individuals, and it will center specifically around the Northern Ohio region. Chasing Heroin focuses on the big picture , the nation at large. While the issue of heroin abuse and overdose obviously did not happen overnight, it is still a relatively new issue. Most of the literature surrounding heroin does not focus on the source of the epidemic and the real stories of those addicted to it. For the most part, books relating to heroin are fictionalized accounts like Dopefiend or self help books that seek to help addicts in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the first evolutions was the creation of a cabinet level secretary to head the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) consolidated the responsibly of securing the United Statesin to one agency. • 5. The Impact Of The European Union On The Common Security... Many of the institutions within the European Union play a substantial role in formulating EU foreign policy. The Common Security and Defense Policy, often referred to as the CSDP, was created as a way for the EU member states to develop defense, military and crisis management policies. The CSDP, which began as a Franco British initiative in 1998, was created as a major component of the Common Security Foreign Policy of the European Union. In the years since its inception, the CSDP has enabled the EU to gain power and become a world leader in the realm of international security. Much of the common security and defense policy s success is due to the capabilities and resources that are provided by the EU member states and world partners such as NATO. As many of the European Union member states are members of both the CSDP and NATO, the two organizations work side by side in order to accomplish Western security goals. Britain had played a leading role in the EU common security and defense policy since it was created. Since the vote in June 2016 to decide whether the British exit from the EU would take place, many have wondered what Brexit would mean for the EU and its institutions. This paper will examine and analyze the impact of Brexit on the EU Common Security and Defense Policy. In order to truly understand how the UK s exit from the Union will impact the CSDP and EU foreign relations, as a result of a change in the political landscape of the EU, one must first examine ... • 9. The Value Of The Currency Alone Will Not Improve The Trade... There are too many factors that may limit the growth needed to reach the balance to get out of debt. Devaluing the currency alone will not improve the trade balance. Instead, there becomes a need to limit the consumption. In the case of food imports, which accounts for about 12 percent of import expenditure in Sri Lanka, the government expects the price increases to result in import substitution, which will likely take time. The most forceful argument for devaluation is that it ensures the competitiveness of exports. The question here is whether the extent of depreciation would be adequate to ensure that the real effective exchange ratewould ensure competitiveness. Again, there are some governments that do try to attempt to influence the value of their currency by ways of intervention. The most notable offender in recent years is that of China, who has sought to keep its currency undervalued to make Chinese exports more competitive against other heavily traded Asian markets. They can do this by buying US dollar assets, which increases the value of the US dollar to Chinese Yuan ratio. (Factors Which Influence the Exchange Rate) Because the current financial status is so heavily dependent on exporting, the continuous management of the exchange rate to ensure export competitiveness is essential for China and Sri Lanka. A reduction in exports could affect the economy seriously as a decline in exports could affect economic growth, employment and incomes. (Sanderatne) It has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With most of the plot being split into either family, business, or the conflicts when they overlap. this drama has to dig deep to hook onto emotions that we can relate to. Based on Mario Puzo s novel, directed by Francis Ford Coppola , and acted by both experts and amateurs alike, The Godfatherwas produced masterfully. While we may not be able to identify with the overall business side of the story, we are able to do so with the half closer to home. The exceptional usage of the three hours allows this film to not seem rushed while having us hang onto every word. Personally, the part of the film that really sold this as one of my top movies was the dual family/business nature of the most of the plot as well as how Michael compared to Vito in being the Godfather.. Michael simply had them all assassinated because it would be easier and more efficient overall. • 12. Analysis Of Ben Johnson And Christopher Marlow Essay Now, you all know about the famous playwright William Shakespeare. However, do you know about the other famous play writers of the time? Now, your reaction might be, Wait, huh? There were other playwrights during Shakespeare s time? Yes there were, and they were actually quite famous. Two of the most prominent ones were Ben Johnson and Christopher Marlow. Today, we mainly focus on Shakespeare and his works. However, each of these men were making plenty of moolah back in the day. They even each other and had very light rivalries. I will be talking about these two men s works and how they affected Elizabethan drama. (Volunteer doopededoo) So, let s start with Ben Johnson. This man was first born in London, England in 1572, just nine years after Shakespeare was born. Shortly after little Ben was born, his dear sweet father died. His mother, being, you know, poor, remarried a bricklayer. Ben would then go to the St. Martin s Parish school and learn about many classical figures, such as the scholar William Camden. After graduating, Ben became a bricklayer, just like his new father! Yet, he didn t really like this too much, so he went to serve in the military at Flanders. Yet, he didn t really like this either. So, he decided to be an actor instead! Ben was finally on the road to making some great literary works! In 1594, Ben married Anne Lewis and had too beautiful children. Besides this, we don t know much about his family. Ben described his wife as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people believe that even with expanded offshore drilling, world oil prices will not be greatly affected. If it s not going to save us money than why should we even consider spending the money to do it? To build an offshore drilling facility is very expensive and many countries do not have the resources or budget to take on such a huge investment. If a country does not have oil and petroleum resources, it will not be able to drill offshore. Because of this, offshore drilling will not be equally distributed around the world. There are many environmental hazards that come along with offshore oil drilling, including pollution and the risk of oil spills. Expanding offshore drilling will increase carbon dioxide emissions, increasing temperatures globally. This has been a continuing issue for decades that does not need to be increased any more than it already has. In The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Alex Haley, the three main things that effected Malcolm s life was his arrival in the city of Boston, the conk he received, and his brother Reginald. These three symbols changed his life forever. Also all of them were connected as well. Malcolm X, being from Lansing, Michigan, never expected his life to change as drastically as it did. Growing up in Lansing, Malcolm was exposed to the negative parts of the city. He even predicted his own death to happen due to violence since most of his family was victims of violence. In Lansing, hardly any black man died from natural causes. In chapter one of the book, Malcolm stated that his father, Earl Little, had seen four of his six brothers die by violence, three of them killed by white men, including one by lynching. When Malcolm s mother found out that Malcolm s father was murdered, she had a mental breakdown. For several months, she had been doing things out of the ordinary and Malcolm began to worry about her. She eventually was sent to the mental illness home where she spent the rest of her life. In essence, Xenophon composed this document to highlight the reforms that Lycurgus had previously established. Xenophon s accounts of the political and social reforms initiated by Lycurgus depicts a state that was highly advanced and disciplined. The purpose of Xenophon writing a document about reforms that were already being practiced, was to emphasize how advanced Spartawas compared to other major Greek city states. This ultimately shows that there was tremendous disunity between Sparta and other major Greek cities in this time period. In the Spartan Constitution, Xenophon explained how the state of Sparta not only controlled its citizens from birth to death, but also attempted to control the quality of offspring produced. In the document, Xenophon mentioned a law that detailed how often a man and wife could sleep together. The Pope s anger, and very hard stance on any Crusader that was a part of the pillage suggests that the Pope was not informed and aware of the decision to attack the Christian city. With the city of Zara safely in their hands, the Crusaders began to take stock of their provisions, and soon found that the although they receieved adequate amounts of food and supplies, it would not be enough to journey to Egypt as planned. Nobody expected the Fourth Crusade to be in such a financial state, and were soon faced with a difficult decision, to return home, or to continue to Constantinople. Eventually they come to ... Mr Darcy Quotes And Analysis 13 February 2018 The Meaning of Letters In 2018, many forms of technology such as the computer, iPhone, and social media apps allow many people to stay connected with one another every day. In fact, many people incorporate technology into their house and workplace. As technology continues to grow, the meaning of words communicated through technology seems to stretch farther from the truth. In other words, as technology has become more readily available to public, more people have communicated less about how they actually feel. However, before any of the common types of technology were invented, many people relied on letters for honest communication. Letters were used to express varying types of information, from sharing personal family... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Darcy s letter to Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy s character such as his gentle nature, social class belief, and his gentlemen personality are uncovered. In chapter 35, Mr. Darcy said, I had detached Mr. Bingley from your sister, and the other, that I had, in defiance of various claims, in defiance of honour and humanity, ruined the immediate prosperity and blasted the prospects of Mr. Wickham., I am under the necessity of relating feelings which may be offensive to yours, I can only say that I am sorry (Austen). Before this letter, Elizabeth viewed Mr. Darcy as a cold and overconfident person that purposely separated Mr. Bingley and Jane. However, this quote reveals that it was not his intention to purposefully separate Mr. Bingley from Jane; he convinced Mr. Bingley that Jane did not have romantic feelings towards him. Furthermore, this quote reveals his gentle nature and love towards Elizabeth because he sincerely apologizes to Elizabeth for causing her distress. In the middle of his letter to Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy said, The situation of your mother s family, though objectionable, was nothing in comparison to that total want of propriety so frequently, so almost uniformly betrayed by herself, by your three younger sisters, and occasionally even by your father (Austen). This quote reveals that Mr. Darcy believes in the importance of social classes and appearances to fit society. Even though he believes that Elizabeth belongs to a crazy family, he explained how he views Elizabeth separate from her embarrassing family. Even though the difference in social classes would keep an average couple apart, Mr. Darcy s and Elizabeth s love is so strong that they overlook their differences in social class. Towards the end of the letter, Mr. Darcy said, I thought too ill of him to invite him to Pemberley, or admit his society in town. In town I believe he chiefly lived, but his studying the law was a mere pretence, and being now free from all restraint, his life was a life of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to the apartheid laws being of a racial legislation, primarily promoting white supremacy and the discrimination of Black and colored individuals throughout South Africa, there would be no doubt that some form of opposition would be present. The opposition came in forms of the ANC and PAC primarily, two resistance parties in support of the improvement of Blacks throughout South Africa. • 41. A Comparison Of My Fair Lady And My Fair Lady After reading Ovid s original myth Pygmalion and Galatea , Shaw was disappointed with it and decided to take pen to paper and create his own version of the story, thus Shaw s Pygmalion was created. The story follows the quest of a young girl, Eliza Doolittle, to transform into a lady because of a bet made by Henry Higgins, a gentleman who is knowledgeable in phonetics. Eliza is successfully able to shape herself into a lady however, the book does not end with happy union of Higgins and Eliza rather a deep animosity between them. In George Cukors musical My Fair Lady diverges from Shaw s original play, and has Higgins and Eliza end up together. Therefore ending of My Fair Lady is a vulgar travesty of the play s design, as Nicholas Grene writes because it undermines Eliza s transformation and it is not a logical ending. Eliza s transformation is something that happens of the course of the play in order for that transformation to hold true Eliza needed to decide not to marry Higgins. Shaw even calls the play a romance in five acts because of Eliza s transformation. After the ambassador s garden party, the bet is deemed a success because the host and the guests of the party believe that she is a lady. Even Nepommuck, Higgins apprentice who has surpassed him, firmly believes that Eliza produces an air of divine light... [and that] She is a princess (Shaw 72). The host and hostess both agree on this, which is meant to signify the success of Eliza s transformation. However, Eliza s success at the garden party is not the true ending of her transformation. The true ending of her transformation is when Eliza stands up for herself and defies Higgins thus becoming a true lady. During the entirety of Eliza s six months of training under Higgins, he treats her atrociously. Upon her arrival, he threatens to kick her out and assaulted her with a barrage of insults such as squashed cabbage leaf and guttersnipe . He did not treat Eliza like a lady, as a result, she did not feel like a lady. On the other hand, Pickering always treated her like a lady and she gained self respect from that. The study was performed in three different regions in Canada: the eastern, western and central provinces (De Wals et al., 2008). Furthermore, the population of the study was conducted on three different types of births which were livebirths, stillbirths, and termination of pregnancies, and the study was carried out through three periods included prefortification, partial fortification and full fortifications (De Wals et al., 2008). Hence, this study s results conflict with the results of De Wals et al s study which claimed that folic acid fortification decreases the NTDs prevalence after the full fortification period (De Wals et al., 2008). Another study was conducted in Chile by Cortes et al, and this study s aim was similar to De Wals et al s aim which was whether there is an impact of folic acid fortification on NTDs prevalence or not (Cortes et al., 2012). The researchers held an observation program in a specific hospital to detect the rate of occurrence of NTDs in stillbirths and livebirths (Cortes et al., 2012). • 45. The First Meditation By Rene Descartes Topic: How does Descartes argue that mind and body are distinct? Is he right? Am I real, or imaginary? In the First Meditation, Rene Descartes presents the main falsehoods in which he believed during his life, and the subsequent faultiness he experienced concerning the body of knowledge. The philosopher considers that it is never too late to rethink the knowledge about his personal being from the very foundations, and builds his thoughts on a certain ground starting from common things. It would be impossible to doubt each thing separately, so he expresses his doubt to the basic principles of knowledge he has already gained, since a conclusion would surely be doubted if its premise was doubted. He starts by doubting basic senses, by comparing feels in reality vs. in dreams. For example, even if I consciously feel warm when I am walking in the sun, I could not claim that I am hundred В‐percentage sure I am awake, since I would feel it the same way when I was in dreams. Descartes presents this idea to show the doubt of reality and its elements. Also, he concludes that the common things we perceive are fashioned, and knowledge based on that can be doubted, such as physics and astronomy. This category of knowledge are different from geometry and arithmetic, which contain certain and definiteness in the simplest thing. By doubting the sense and knowledge based on it, Descartes argued his approach that the body and mindare two absolutely distinctive things. Descartes mentions God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Botticelli is using the biblical motif to foreshadow Christ being born. Christ is the right hand of God, so even the annunciation of his coming must be holy and divine. While there is no bible evidence, many believe the angel Gabriel sat at the left hand of God. Rabbi David Cooper says the angel is connected with the attribute of Gevorah on the left side of the Tree of Life. Whereas Michael is on God s right hand, Gabriel is on God s left hand. The left hand is the one that metes out punishment; the right hand overrules strict justice and is more merciful and thus more lenient (p. 45). Botticelli seems to agree with the theory of Gabriel sitting at God s left hand by the placement on the angel. While the does have a column directly diving the space, the gaps between the columns and the walk way into the chapel combines the two sections. Botticelli seems to be inferring for the angel to walk into the chapel and see Mary. The figures are also bowing toward one another. Not only are they bowing because they are in the house of God, but they seem to acknowledge one another in their bowing. If one would draw a line of the figures line of vision the lines would intersect at the walk way between the columns. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We need to retell the stories of old, the stories of Scripture and of Jesus Resurrection in ways that captivate the modern mind without compromising truth. This statement from Brian Godawa summarizes my take away from the book: The one who can tell the best story, in a very real sense, wins the epoch (131). As a left sided brain engineer (and not unlike Godawa), I expected my logical syllogisms to be devastating to atheism and that after seeing the undeniable logic in them, unbelievers would come to Christ in hordes. I am well aware that is unlikely to happen. I am convinced that the days when masses walk down the aisles in football stadiums to receive Christ are long gone. With the advent of relativism, postmodernism, and mass media, the modern apologist should adopt a distinct approach. From Apologetics for a New Generation and past experience I believe there are tree winning strategies for the modern apologist to win the new generations : (1) Storytelling: both Jesus and the Apostle Paul had the gift of storytelling. They took fact, encapsulated it in a context relevant and captivating story, and delivered it to those willing to hear. They were interesting, engaging, and truthful. They knew their culture and how to engage it. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Adam And Eve Loss Of Knowledge Essay The tale of Adam and Eve, an infamous account in the book of Genesis, depicts man s original disobedience in eating of the Tree of Knowledge and serves as humankind s first archetype of the innate relationship between lost innocence and the attainment of knowledge. As portrayed in the story, God s severe punishment of Adam and Evefor consuming the forbidden fruit insinuates that it is wrong to desire knowledge, more specifically, the knowledge of humanity s potential for good and evil. The resultant loss of innocence from gaining this moral comprehension is all too frequently regarded as sinful, undesirable, and ultimately regrettable. The concept however, of pursuing a greater understanding of the natures of others and oneself is not fundamentally wrong as it expresses a kind of valuable moral growth. As evidenced by further analysis of the story of Adamand Eve, it is apparent that although acquiring knowledge does... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of Adam and Eve, the two became gradually more knowledgeable after eating the fruit and were forced to depart from the childlike innocence that they had experienced in the Garden of Eden. This same departure is further illustrated by the responsibilities that children are assigned once they begin to mature. No longer are they solely accountable for their own person, but their actions must also reflect consideration for the well being of those around them as they now have the ability to reflect upon issues outside of themselves. This erasure of ignorance is of great importance as it now allows for the construction of moral dimension within mankind. The consumption of the fruit symbolizes the acquirement of a wealth of moral knowledge for Adam and Eve and the recognition of their individual obligations in human ... Their main purpose is to use this facility to manufacture medications for prostate cancer. Located in the Aberdares Mountain is a native tribe called The Kikuyu. After much research and extensive surveying of the area, it was determined that a type of evergreen tree known as pygeum or prunus Africana, is used by the tribes people to cure what they refer to as old men s disease . Another option is to lay down roads that connect the region to the mainland and then provide permanent housing for all members of the tribe. Unfortunately, many African governments are known for being unfair and uncivilized, and even corrupt, so how are we to know that they Kiyuku tribe would ever see any of the money or other benefits they are being offered? What is to say they don t keep the money for themselves and give away the housing and medical to other civilians in the country and not the tribe people? Many people are lead to wonder if the tribal leaders are fully aware of the ramifications tied to the plans that Colney and Pitts are offering them. For thousands of years this tribe has thrived in this land, without the need for money, doctor training, permanent housing. One thing is perfectly career with regards to the Kiyuku and its people, they have been surviving without the modern technology in medicine, without machine driven construction of their homes and without farm hands and tractors to grow their food. They have been surviving strong with the same skills that started with their people hundreds of years ago. So at the end of the day, one may not believe that the Kikuyu tribe will suffer the most ... • 58. The Count Of Monte Cristo Analysis The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas is an adventure and historical fiction novel that encompasses forgiveness, power, and vengeance. The story follows the adventure of Edmond DantГЁs, who dedicated the rest of his life to getting vengeance on the men who crossed him. Critics Justin Kaplan and Bryan Aubrey both explain their views on Dumas work, in great detail. Kaplan, in Treasure and Vengeance, speaks of his own life, and connects it with Dumas work. Aubrey, in his critical essay, on the other hand analyzes Dumas piece strictly based upon Edmond s morality. In Treasure and Vengeance, Justin Kaplan speaks about The Count of Monte Cristo in the highest regard. After a brief back story on himself, he quickly transitions into connecting it with the book itself. Kaplan claims that in a singular sense, [Edmond s] motive was disinterested: not the means to anything else and with no purpose other than its own fulfillment (Kaplan). This is a key aspect in Kaplan s criticism. He adds that his revenge, driven by the festering sense of injustice is what drives Edmond throughout the story (Kaplan). The whole story revolves around DantГЁs dire need to get revenge on Fernand, as well as others who have crossed him. In fact, the Count himself says that for all evils there are two remedies time and silence (Dumas 523). His sole mission is to retaliate against Mondego, who was the cause of his wrongful conviction. He intends to get his revenge for his own needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
