Theme Of Immigration In West Side Story
Cultural interactions are important when it comes to settling during an immigration. The movie
West Side Story shows the way the Puerto Ricans tried to fit in and be a part of the New York City
community. Once they got into New York City, the Puerto Ricans engaged themselves in various
economic activities like working in stores for other people. The main theme of the West Side Story
showed that intercultural relationships were an important part of the lives of the immigrants and
emigrants of NYC. The paper has managed to show that cultural interactions are of great
importance when it comes to the settling in of immigrants in a new community. The Puerto Ricans
indeed faced many issues when they got to NYC. The existing communities made it difficult for
them to settle in well. There was too much hatred and violence between the two cultures in that
community that even brought about death. Loveusually have a way of cooling people down. When
Tony and Maria fell in love despite the differences in their cultures, something special happened.
Although they were not able to achieve their dreams because Tony ended up being killed, the two
cultures were able to discard their hatred for each other and come together for the first time. Indeed,
the smooth settling of immigrants greatly depends on the cultural interactions in their new
destination.
Introduction
When it comes to the history of immigration in the United States, the immigration of the Puerto
Rican people is a unique one.

Video Games Cause Violence Research Paper
Video Games Cause Violence?
In this age of technology, it s very safe to say that a large majority of the world s population has
played at least one video game. This can vary from playing games on console, like Xbox One,
Playstation 4, and for the older generation, the NES to playing mobile games like Tetris. There
are many consoles that span from the creation of video games. This has opened opportunities to
make several kind of games. These can vary from side scrollers like Super Mario Bros. on the NES,
to Role playing games (RPG) like Final Fantasy IX on the Playstation 1. While this has caused
some great games to surface, it has also allowed intense violence to be let into games. Parents and
anti gaming communities state that this is why kids can become violent. This is false, because
violent games can be avoided to prevent this issue, and the Entertainment Software Rating Board
(ESRB) has even made various precautions to make sure parents know what they re purchasing.
Comprehensible symbols, detailed lists, and age restrictions prevents children from becoming
violent .
To begin, the ESRB has released a full list of comprehensible symbols. For example, if you re
looking for a violent game, chances are that game is rated M for mature. However, if you re looking

It s ridiculous to punish a game rating company for the lack of attention being paid by the
customer. It s clear that ESRB is doing their job when employees at gaming stores are stopping
customers from buying games when asking how old they are. Parents want a different company to
rate games, but not only will they not be as effective as ESRB, but one can almost guarantee that
the new company would run into the same problems ESRB does. Providing quick glances at rating
symbols and giving detailed lists, ESRB has given customers every opportunity to know what game

Forensic Psychology And The Human Mind And Its Functions
Psychology and law at first glance are not two terms that seem to correspond with each other. One
might even question why they would be mentioned in the same context. Crime has become a major
issue within today s society. It seems as though the only way to prevent most of them is to enforce
the repercussions of the act and punish those that partake in it. Criminals often have motives or
attributes that lead them into a life of crime. Forensic psychologyis the cynosure that brings the
association between psychology and law into perspective.
The term forensic is defined by The Oxford English Dictionary as, Relating to or denoting the
application of scientific methods and techniques to the investigation of crime. Psychology is
defined as, The scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting
behaviour in a given context and the mental characteristics or attitude of a person or group (OED).
These terms combined form one of the newest subfields of psychology. The main objective of
forensic psychology is to aid in the punishment and prevention process of criminal and civil
investigations.
As the field continues to expand, a plethora of careers and opportunities have and are becoming
available. Of course, with anything new and/or unfamiliar, there is question of credibility and
moral. Since law is a major component involved in this subfield of psychology; the ethics involved
in the practice must also be considered. In order to fully understand

The Origin Of Transatlantic Accents In The English Language
Transatlantic accent had a strong resemblance to musical type of speaking compared to details that
accompany the world s many leading phonetics that come from a sustained form of education. The
fact that transatlantic accent was mainly spoken by the affluent people in the society, means that it
copied the phonetics that educated people used to speak and dropped the letter r form the words
used in the accent, especially from the British accents. In fact, transatlantic accent upon embracing
the culture of r less pronunciation was promoted as the correct and right international English.
Schools of acting, speech, and elocution adopted transatlantic accent and the r less pronunciation as
a method and taught it in the schools. Speech schools in the United Statesadvanced the accent,
thereby, attracting so many people from the elite families to join acting, elocution, and speech
schools in order to learn the transatlantic accent (Jenny).
The official origin of transatlantic accent traces its roots in Australian phonetics. The accent was
popularized by the William Tilly who taught in Columbia University, who introduced the Australian
phonetic consistency in the United States. The professor introduced the consistency of Australian
phonetics using a conscious standard of American speech. The phonetic grew to define the
American classical accent that was eventually identified as transatlantic accent that started declining
during the Second World War. Transatlantic attracted

Visualized in this photo is an example of Touch or Tactile Language, which is another kind of

type of language: Braille, which is a type of visual language that can be touched and uses dots to

major problem. Similar to computer coding, another form of tactile language, exist only in written

patriotism is the expression of love for and devotion to one s state, (Greiner 2011) the two are
not the same and it is in this photo that we can see a notable difference. When one flies the
American flag over the native flag, in this case the flag of Oklahoma, you have an example of
patriotism over nationalism. Because of this, we can see how some people place a higher
importance on the patriotism to one s country over the nationalism one feels to a certain nation,

Maya Angelou One Today Analysis
Throughout the 20th and (rising of) the 21st centuries, African American people have been dealt
with many social, political and economic challenges. Most people have the common knowledge
that equality did not exist during the upbringing of our country. African Americans were slaves to
many and had no rights as a U.S. citizen. This has changed over the course of many years and civil
rights leaders fighting for freedom, however it took persistence, determination and strength to get to
where we are today. I know of the adversity and struggles that were faced by African Americans
from interpreting and analyzing On the Pulse of Morning and One Today. Maya Angelou an

The primary purpose of a story focused on the destructive impact of war on the people especially
the one who server in battle. War is in Vietnam that a Boy name Henry served. He got imprisoned
for three years in Vietnam. After that, he could come back home to his other sibling which they
were waiting for him. Henry did not have the emotional stability that he used to have before the
going to war. This is the point that Erdrich points it out very clearly is her short story. The audience
can be realized the purpose of her story while she is reading throughout the story. For instance, at
the beginning of the story, Henry with his brother Lyman bought the Red convertible. They were
a very happy family that they made a road trip with their in the summer as Erdrich wrote We d
made most of the trip, without putting up the car hood at all. We got home just in time (327). She
could have addressed that Henry was the active and happy person before going to war.
1. Is the writer trying to entertain or to educate?
Edrich entertains the audience with her book. However, the book is education people in so
many ways. She described an American Native family. The reason perhaps is that because she is
half an American Native from her mother side. She used her heritage to develop her characters so
that her characters in the books which are also Native American are also are real. Thus, when
something is real people get educated maybe not in a direct way, but it can be the indirect way.

To what extent should Canada protect its Arctic Sovereignty?
Canadian Arctic Sovereignty is currently a pressing issue has raised many questions about who
owns and who has control over the Arctic and its precious resources. The posing question is; to
what extent should Canada protect its Arctic Sovereignty? There are many reasons why Canada
must go forward in defending and protecting the Arctic to a moderate extent even though it will be
a challenging mission considering that the Canadian military currently needs more resources in
order to properly defend the Arctic. They must defend the population of Inuit that currently reside in

Sovereignty also declares that the Inuit have rights to the resources and the land upon which they
live on.
Due to the receding Arctic ice there is now a partially open route through the Northwest Passage
during certain parts of the year, which could pose a possible threat to Canada. According to the
Canadian Ice Service and the US National Ice Center, the passage is almost clear and more than
ever since the beginning of routine monitoring in 1972 (The Northwest Passage: In Dispute and
Navigable). The opening of this passage has now sparked the interest of the US and Russia in
wanting it to be officially deemed as international waters. The Northwest Passage is 7000km
shorter than the Panama Canal from Europe to Asia (Byers). This would mean that international
shipping companies would be able to save a great deal of time and money. There could also be
the possibility to use super tankers to transport oil which is impossible to do through the Panama
Canal (Byers). There are ship manufacturers that are currently designing and building vessels that
would be able to withstand ice (Byers). The cruise ship industry is also interested in the use of the
passage (Byers). There is a Russian

Emily Dickinson s Success Is Counted Sweetest
Emily Dickinson is easily one of the best authors of American history. Her strange, dark poetry
has been one of her greatest successes. Success is counted sweetest or 112 starts out in an
upbeat manner and quickly gets dark, as many of her other poems did. Dickinson s use of
simple language to express dark feelings and strange metaphors add to the theme of Success is
counted sweetest. Stanza one of Success is counted sweetest basically states that people who
never succeed value success more than those who succeed often. The first two lines are literally:
Success is counted sweetest/ By those who ne er succeed. (1 2) She is simply pointing out that
while everyone loves to achieve something, it is more gratifying if you do not win

Evolution of Tigers
Tigers are amazing creatures that have gone through several evolutionary changes from the
beginning of their species. A modern day tiger is most recognizable for their pattern of dark
vertical stripes on orange fur with a white underside. The largest modern day tiger in record was
eleven feet tall and weighed 387 pounds. In the terms of science tigers are under the classification
of roaring tigers and the scientific name of a tiger is Panthera tigris. But in order to learn about

Comparing Two Speeches In Julius Caesar
Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel. Ralph Waldo Emerson. In the play
Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, there are two instances of speeches that persuade, convert,
and compel the audiences. Both of the speakers had beliefs that were polar opposites, and both
speeches brought forth many emotions and convictions that drove the crowd to nearly killing
others. The first of the speeches, given by Brutus, was intended to compel the audience to believe
that killing Julius Caesarwas a good thing for Rome. This drove the crowd crazy, and they were all
on the same boat as him, until Mark Antonycomes along. Antony talks to the crowd and controls

He first defends Brutus, For Brutus is an honorable man. (3.2.83) As he tells the crowd how
honorable and noble Brutus was, he also manages to twist Brutus s own words against him. He

wasn t ambitious, When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept; Ambition should be made of
sterner stuff. (3.2.92 93) And another one, I thrice presented him a kingly crown, Which he did
thrice refuse. Was this ambition? Yet Brutus says he was ambitious... (3.2.97 99) Antony is
discrediting Brutus, and starting an uprising against him. Not surprisingly, there is one last straw
that Antony presented to the crowd, Caesar s own will. Antony first tells the crowd how he found
it in a closet, I found it in his closet; tis his will. (3.2.130) And as the plebeians holler at Antony
demanding him to read the will, he adamantly refuses to read the will multiple times, thus creating
a large force of momentum. Soon after, Antony starts rattling off tales and regrets about Caesar,
that eventually the Plebeians are roused up into a bloodlust and are ready to murder all of the
conspirators. Finally, Antony reads out the will to the audience, To every Roman citizen he gives,
to every several man, seventy five drachmas. (3.3.242 243) The way the audience reacted to

The Fairytale Of Cinderella By James Poniewozik
Each and every child grows up viewing Disney movies, wearing princess gowns, and buzz lightyear
suits. The parents of these children are the individuals purchasing these Disney costumes, toys,
candy, and other related items for their children. Our society today accepts Disney and their culture
of entertainment as a part of a child s childhood experience without second thought. Elements of the
fairytale of Cinderellahas adapted over time to please the culture in which it is told; yet in today s
culture, adaptation to these elements is taken to where it has never been. In The Princess Paradox,
James Poniewozik says, You can have the girly dream of glass slippers and true love, these films
say, as well as the womanly ideal of self determination and independence and any contradictions
between them are no match for the movies magic (Poniewozik 324). Peggy Orenstein compliments
Poniewozik s article because she states, The first Princess items, released with no marketing plan,
no focus groups, no advertising, sold as if blessed by a fairy godmother (Orenstein 327).
Poniewozik is trying to argue that films have altered the story of Cinderella in the 21st century
cinema realm due to the addition of the concept of feminism, women s separation from men, and
the traditional magic implemented within them. Orenstein marries these articles together indirectly
by pointing out that Disney legitimately had no marketing plan, yet they continue to rake in money.
The reason Disney

was intentionally letting the Dallas players and fans know that no matter where he played the field

relentless pursuit to dominate and intimidate his competition, including the media.
Cultural capital is a way that people within any culture distinguish themselves from people from
outside the culture, and it typically also involves judgments of value, worth, or character.
Regardless of Terrell s skills, mannerisms, and credentials he doesn t mind sacrificing the
relationships acquired through being part of the professional football world. Terrell thought very
highly of himself sharing the same passion for football as his teammates and opponents he created
a sense of identity and belonging. However, putting a lot effort into presenting himself as a unique
player worthy of being sought after in the NFL, Terrell acts as though he has knowledge that
confers power and status. Failing to realize that he helped hinder his own social mobility and

The media portrays Terrell Owensas an athlete that does not deserve to be in the Hall of Fame

he presents himself to his fans and the commentators. For example, Owens said the Eagles showed

Amory Blaine In F. Scott Fitzgerald s This Side Of Paradise
A significant part of F. Scott Fitzgerald s This Side of Paradise describes the time that the main
character, Amory Blaine, has spent at Princeton University. Through the portrayal of the several
characters, the novel shows that the years spent at Princeton either turned the students into a
homogenous mass or, on the contrary, prompted them to deviate from the crowd. A typical student
from the novel can most likely be described as a Princeton slicker (51). The slickers are
predominantly smart, well dressed and successful, but what truly draws the line between them and
the other students is the slickers sense of social values (40), or, in other words, their snobbishness.

The word conventionalize seems to fully capture the negative impact that the college may have

Amory Blaine thinks he is no longer standing against people (126). Amory, too, becomes
disillusioned with the idea of being a slicker , and this is reflected in the nonchalance he develops
towards all of the student organizations and in a shift in the objects of his admiration. As a

community. Unlike Dick Hornby, who attracted Amory s attention merely because of the
impression he made in public, Burne Holiday strucks Amory because of his intense earnestness

How Does Traditional Mexican Music Influence People s...
In my personal experience, Mexican music has revolved around my life for as long as I can
remember. Growing up in a bordertown has its Hispanic heritage. Whether I was at home, school,
or even in public places, I would hear Spanish related music playing in the background. I believe
Spanish music holds many values when it comes to different occasions. The musiccan manipulate
the minds of its listeners using love, passion, and outstanding rhythms. After reading an article
online, I can explain how three different genres of traditional Mexican music influence people s
culture.
The genre that most people know Mexican music by is Mariachi. Mariachi is usually played at
birthday parties, quinceaГ±eras, and any other social gathering. In a Mariachi band, the member s
attire consists of a Charro suit and sombrero. For the main part, they use violins, trumpets, a
classical guitar and a vihuela (a five string guitar). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ranchera music can tell a story, and use love, patriotism, and nature to make a magnificent melody.
The music originates from the word rancho meaning ranches. Coming from rural parts of Mexico,
Ranchera music usually starts with El Grito Mexicano a yell that the musician or audience
member makes. Finally Ranchera music can be simallary compared to the tempo of a waltz, a
polka or a bolero.
The last genre NorteГ±o is comprised of other music like Tejano or Tex Mex . This kind of
music is very relatable to me and is personally one of my favorite type of Mexican music. A
twelve string guitar known as bajo sexto and the accordion are NorteГ±o s most characteristic
instruments. NorteГ±o music is usually played by a group of men or a band. The music is
originated from migrated europeans who traveled to northern

The South was a volatile place when concerning the separation of the white and black

tension of the South rather than alleviating the problems by sacrificing equality for the social norm
of separation.
The physical separation of the white and black races was of great concern in the South and how
each of the races would interact with one another. This separation included preferential treatment of
white individuals over their black counterparts. While the people filed into the courthouse waiting
for the trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Negros, having waited for the white people to go upstairs,
began to come in (Lee 186). The physical separation continued as the Colored balcony ran along
three walls of the courtroom

When Cultures Collide
Management, and the ability to lead and cultivate a team of individuals who strive to meet targets,
work hard, and have loyalty to their company is an extremely difficult task by any standards. It
requires a unique kind of person who is both demanding and rewarding, who can handle
confrontation and who holds people to reasonable standards while encouraging teamwork and
cooperation. This alone makes running a company, and finding upper and middle managers to
facilitate plans and goals a worthy task, but with the advent of fast paced globalization, companies
are now having to handle not only their internal managementstyles, but the management styles of a
variety of different countries and cultures.

John Brown s A Hero
John Brown Essay
What John Brown did was crazy and was suicidal; he did it because he knew the purpose of it
and the after effect of it. After the Harpers Ferry revolt Brown said that he doesn t feel no guilt
for his actions. He knew what people would characterize him as and he just doesn t care. He
knows what affect and toll it would take on people to see their own kind to stand up and fight for
equality of a different race. Most people would think he s crazy, but actually he s just trying to
fight for justice to end slavery because what he believes that is right.
The reason why I say he s a hero not a terrorist is because if you define a terrorist and line it up with
what John Brown believes in and what he wanted to accomplish then you would think he s a hero
also. See people got to remember the Harpers Ferry revolt wasn t the only slave revolt John
Brown was apart of, he was also apart of other attacks in different places. For example in his
Conversation: Patriot or Terrorist it says During what became known as the Pottawatomie
Massacre and the Battle of Osawatomie, Brown assumed the role of abolitionist leader and led
violent attacks against proponents of slavery. See that he wasn t just apart of one revolt and one
attack like Osama Bin Laden was no he was part of a couple attacks and battles. His mission was to
free slaves and make the economy and country better by allowing everyone to be treated equal and
have equal rights. Like what we have sort of

Dbq Jury System
There are certain aspects of the United States government that seem to be at the core of ensuring
democracy for all citizens. These ideas include representative leaders like the President, or the
bicameral legislature. Similarly, the jury system is another structure of the government that many
people hold close to their hearts. Although it seems like the ultimate way that the citizens can self
govern, is the jurysystem really the best way to reach a verdict in civil and/or criminal cases? The
bottom line is that the jury system is an outdated structure. Specifically, bench trials, or trials
decided only by a judge, are much more effective than jury trials because judges are more educated,
less susceptible to popular influence, and are not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In trials like that of Casey Anthony, the mother arrested and charged with killing her two year
old daughter Caylee, the popularity and widespread coverage of the case definitely influenced
how citizens across the country believed Anthony should be sentenced (Document D). Anyone
who saw one news story on the case that was then called to the jury probably already had formed
their opinion on the status of Anthony s innocence, without reviewing any court evidence.
Consequently, their predisposed opinion, similar to the cats on the jury in Cartoon 3 of
Document E, could have resulted in a weighted outcome. Also, the fear of a wrong decision
made by the jury could have motivated a juror to vote solely for the outcome most popularly
desirable. For example, Document D quotes Janine Gonzalez, a nearby member of Anthony s
community, as saying She (Casey Anthony) better move and move to a faraway place. Even
though, in the end, Anthony was declared innocent, the fear of her life as well as the possible
violence that could occur after the verdict could have been enough to sway a juror to convict her
just to satisfy a popular

St. John s Depiction Of Babies In The Bible
The Bible clearly shows that life begins at conception in many passages. There are several
passages that portray babies in the womb as alive and real, individual people. It also states that
God created and loves all life, and that all life is sacred to God, but especially humans, who are
made in God s image and likeness. Murder is condemned in the bible in many places. If an unborn
baby is a human and murder of a human is condemned, than should not abortionalso be condemned?
Babies in their mothers womb are clearly persons as is shown in the bible. St. Paul says in
Galatians 1:15, But when [God], who from my mother s womb had set me apart and called me
through his grace, was pleased. Here St. Paul is saying that God created him not ... Show more

A prohibition against murder is included in one of the Ten Commandments of God given to
Moses in Exodus. In Exodus 20:13, we read Thou shalt not kill. This is the sixth commandment
of the ten given to Moses by God. If a baby in his mother s womb is a living person, then abortion
is murder, because there can never be justification for the murder of an innocent baby. In Exodus
23:7, it also speaks of murder: Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put an innocent
or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty. God says do not put an innocent person to
death. Who is more innocent than a baby, especially one not even born yet and still in the womb?
Abortion is the murder of innocent human lives. In Matthew 5:27, the Scripture again talks about
the evil of murder, You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, You shall not murder, and
anyone who murders will be subject to judgment. All of these passages show that God condemns
the taking of innocent human life in any

Ankle Joint Research Paper
The ankle joint is a rolling joint that gains most of its stability from osseous and ligamentous
structures. Congruence of distal articular surface of the tibia, fibula, and trochlear surface of the
talus aids in even distribution of weight bearing forces on the joint. Medial ligamentous structures,
interosseous membrane, tibiofibular, lateral collateral ligaments, and tendinous structures assume
static stabilization role of the ankle. (10,11,22).
Although the ankle joint has significantly smaller surface area than the hip or knee, it withstands
five times the body weight during stance in walking and up to 13 times the body weight during
running (10,11, 17 19). Despite the increased weight bearing force, the tibiotalar joint is more
resistant to development of primary osteoarthritis (OA). However, it is more susceptible to post
traumatic arthritis based on many variables including gender, cartilage thickness, mechanical and
metabolic factors. (10,11,19,20). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the knee, the articular cartilage of the ankle is uniform in thickness, measuring from 1 to
1.7mm, and displays much higher compressive stiffness than hip or knee cartilage (10,11,19,20).
Ankle cartilage may develop fissures attributable to wear; this conditions does not progress to
OA as it wound in the knee or hip (10,11,19, 20). Ankle cartilage also does not decrease in tensile
strength with age (10,11,19 21). Compared to the hip and knee, ankle chondrocytes have different
biomechanical and biologic factors to resist degradation, especially inflammatory markers. Ankle
chondrocytes have decreased sensitivity to Interleukin 1 (IL 1) and matrix metalloproteinases
(MMP), in particular MMP 8 that is usually elevated in OA (10,11,19, 20, 22). As a result, the
ankle joint is unlikely to succumb to damage by inflammatory changes

Eminent Domain Paper
When Should Eminent Domain be Used?
When should a city or state use their eminent domain powers? Over the past few years there have
been a couple of cases that raised the questions of when eminent domain should be used. One of
the most controversial cases in the history of the United States was the Kelo v New
London Supreme Court ruling. In order to generate tax revenue, add jobs, and to prevent
bankruptcy, the government s right to initiate eminent domain for public good is a necessary evil.
Eminent domain in definition is the right or power of public purposes without the owner s consent

Which would cause the city to grow and that would provide more money to the government with
the increased tax revenue from all of the new families. This could create more jobs, because more
companies might be interested in locating there due to all of the growth. Eminent domain should
also be used by a city or state if it prevents it from going bankrupt.
A city or state should use eminent domain if it prevents it from going bankrupt. If a city is near
bankrupt then it cannot provide all of the necessary items that a city needs in order to run like it
is supposed to. For example, if a city is short of funds then it would have to reduce its budget in
places that would harm the city. It would have to cut money from the police, and fire departments.
However, by using their eminent domain powers a city could keep all of this from happening by
letting a business come that would create thousands in tax dollars, and add jobs to the city. This
means that a reduction in the police and fire departments would not happen and the city would still
run smoothly.
The cities and states that use eminent domain to acquire land in order to keep themselves running
smoothly is sad; however, these cities and states are looking out for what is best for their areas.

quick dollar. These cities and states are only

The Environment Of An Organization
Introduction
Understanding the environment that encompasses an association that is vital to the executives
accountable for the associations. There are a few reasons behind why understanding the
environment is important. First, the environment provides resources that an organization needs in
order to create goods and services. In the seventeenth century, British writer John Donne broadly
noticed no man is an island. Similarly, it is exact to say that no association is independent. As the
human body must devour oxygen, nourishment, and water, an organization needs to take in
resources, such as, work, cash, and crude materials from outside its limits. An association can t
make due without the backing of its surroundings. Second, the environment is a place of
opportunities and threats for an organization. Managers must also realize that almost any
environmental movement is possible to create opportunities for some organizations and threats for
others. Officials should likewise understand that for all intents and purposes any ecological
pattern or occasion is liable to make open doors for a few associations and dangers for others.
Third, the environment forms the numerous strategic decisions that manager s make as they try to
lead their organizations to success. Nature regularly puts vital limitations on an association s
objectives, for instance, a firm that sets an objective of expanding yearly deals by 50 percent may
battle to accomplish this objective amid a financial

Civil Disobedience Examples
Civil disobedience positively impacts a free society. When disobeying peacefully, one disagrees
with the current regulations, but does so in a fashion that is not disruptive. Civil disobedience does
result in tension and further disputes in the community. But these are not for long. Eventually, civil
disobedienceresults in the way the people wanted it to. This is proven by examples from history
and today. The Boston Tea Party, which happened on December 16, 1773, was an act of protest to

colonists disguised as Native Americans emptied out entire crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.

scientist is free, and must be free to ask any question, to doubt any assertion, to seek for any

the only way to avoid error is to detect it and that the only way to detect it is to be free to inquire.

He obtained his PhD afterward in Germany from the prestigious University of Göttingen.
Oppenheimer was always a brooding and intense man. As a youth he suffered some degree of
torment from kids his age for his bookish tendencies. During his college years, he sustained
several bouts of depression. Looking back at his college years, Oppenheimer remarked that
virtually everything aroused a very great sense of revulsion and wrong. He had a tendency to
ask difficult questions of his professors. After his oral PhD exam, one of his evaluators was
reputed to have said that Phew, I m glad that s over. He was on the point of questioning me. In
1929 Oppenheimer returned to the United States to take up teaching positions at Berkeley and
Cal Tech. During the 30 s, Oppenheimer began to become associated with a variety of heavily
left wing organizations affiliated with Communism. This was mainly due to the repression of
several Jewish relatives in Nazi Germany. He married Katherine Harrison in 1940, who was a

his former leftist friends and groups. This was probably largely done to make himself more

Descriptive Essay About Love
Finding Love
As I walk into the Homeward Animal Shelter for my dog walking shift, I think of the reason I
began my weekly volunteering. I want to give love, in any way I can, to the animals who have
been left by the ones they love. These animals that I spend an hour and a half with every Sunday
need to know that someone loves them. That they have not been forgotten about and it gets better.
After spending the summer with my aunt and uncle, I learned that. As I watched their newest
rescue dog Snoop open up to me after 3 years and watching his mile stones. For a dog that was
abandoned by his family and left on the street, bounced between the shelter and temporary homes,
he has finally found permanent love in our family.
Snoop s journey into our family began when his family abandoned him and his little chihuahua
brother on the side of the road. They fended for each other for days until they were brought to the
pound. From there they were separated. Where the little Chihuahua went is unknown, but Snoop,
being a pure bread German Shepherd, was taken to Missouri German Shepherd Rescue (MOGS),
a rescue center specializing in Shepherds. His white coat made him easy to love, but after the
treatment of his last family he did not easily love others. Once Snoop had come out of his shell,
not so sheepishly hiding from the shelter staff, he was moved into a foster home. Here in this foster
home he started to become the dog my family knows today. Living with another Shepherd helped

Review of Research Paper on Creating Home-Made Stem Cells
Our paper discusses an important step in the research surrounding stem cells.
Pluripotent stem cells are found in the early blastocyst, and can differentiate into different cell types
such as neurons, cardiac muscle, or blood cells.
As is explained elsewhere on this paper, stem cells are extremely useful and hold amazing medical
potential, especially to grow specific cells, tissues, and even organs for patients. Controversy mires
the progress of stem cell research from embryos, however, and technical problems exist along with
the ethical ones. Marius Wernig and his team of scientists have had success studying a way to get
around this, however.

But how did the experimenters know if the cells that they had created were truly pluripotent
stem cells? What could these cells form? First, a bit of background information must be
included about chimeras. In basic terms, a chimera contains two sets of DNA, both of which
are expressed. Different sections of the chimera s body will be derived from different DNA. A
good example is an individual with eyes of two different colors (one green, one blue, etc).
Chimeras can be formed when two fertilized eggs fuse together at an early stage, or when an
unfertilized egg or extra sperm fuses with a fertilized egg. Now the developing organism contains
two different genetic codes. In most cases, chimeras are completely healthy. There is no worry of
immune rejection, because the cells are joined together far before any immune system exists to
reject either.
Now, back to the paper. How did chimeras help the scientists identify the pluripotent stem cells they
had created? The scientists obtained mouse blastocysts that had certain traits different than those in
the intended pluripotent cells. These blastocysts were injected with the potential induced
pluripotent stem cells, and allowed to develop to birth. All the induced stem cells were designed to
produce Gfp (green fluorescent protein), so if the newly born mice glowed green under ultraviolet
light, then it proved that they indeed

Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay
Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES
Abstract:
It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level
exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous
consumer products such as the cosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most
important sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological
system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal or foreseeable conditions of
use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were
analyzed in Al Madina SAES laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of
heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected heavy metals
were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES).
As and Cu were not found in all samples except in foundation sample found in concentration
0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03 0.92 ppm. Mercury ranged
between 0.04 1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026 0.091ppm.
1. Introduction: Personal care products and facial cosmetics are commonly used by millions of
consumers on a daily basis. These products are directly applied to human skin and mainly produce
local exposure to certain ingredients. Numerous consumer products like cosmetics and toiletries

Written by Charlotte BrontГ«, Jane Eyre tells the story of its title character as she matures and
experiences all that life has to offer in 19th century England. Jane Eyre grows up as an orphan
and seeks work as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets and falls in love with Mr.
Edward Rochester. After discovering that he is already married, she is introduced to St. John
Rivers; he asks her to marry him for the sole purpose of being a missionary s wife and she instead
returns to Mr. Rochester, who she truly loves, and marries him. Throughout her journey, she learns

Rochester and St. John Rivers display very similar characteristics throughout the novel, such as
their social standings, severe dispositions, and proposals to Jane. Both men come from wealthy
and respected families. Edward Rochester is born into a high class family and owns multiple
estates, such as Thornfield Hall and Ferndean Manor. Likewise, St. John comes from an
esteemed and well known family that Mr. Oliver, the wealthiest man in Morton, speaks well of
when questioned about the topic by Jane. Secondly, both Mr. Rochester and St. John come off as
harsh and distant until Jane gets to know them well. Mr. Rochester is brusque and asks Jane many
questions about herself, but discloses very little information about his background. During her
time with St. John, she attempts to make him disclose to her his feelings towards Rosamond
Oliver and says, With all his firmness and self control, thought I, he tasks himself too far: locks
every feeling and pang within expresses, confesses, imparts nothing (373; ch. ). Lastly, both Mr.
Rochester and St. John ask Jane to marry them. Jane almost marries Mr. Rochester, but leaves him
after realizing that he is already married. She refuses to marry St. John because she doesn t love
him and returns to Mr. Rochester, who she eventually does marry and spends many happy years
with. Altogether, Mr. Rochester and St. John have similarities such as their respected families, their
distant natures, and their proposals to

Benefits Of New Technology
Mr. Ojeda 4B
Mia Honrubia
Technological advancements help societies in various ways, helping them grow and thrive;
protecting them, providing enjoyment and improving quality of life. To determine whether or
not a new technology will be implemented, a strategy known as, cost benefit analysis is applied.
This analysis evaluates the costs involved upfront and over time as compared to the benefits
received from the new technology. For example, the development of new types of technology to
be used in medical care. New techniques may be more effective or have fewer side effects, but
may be too expensive to justify replacing the current standard of care. In addition to the monetary
cost there may also be negative outcomes that may pose a threat to health of our society. There has
to be a balance, for the new technology to be successful. An ideal new innovative technology, is
safer, cheaper, faster, and easier to maintain than the old technology being replaced.
Nuclear energy for example, is a relatively new kind of energy technology that is being introduced
into our world. Coal and natural gas make up old technology and are currently the major energy
sources in the United States. Some benefits of nuclear energy are that nuclear energy innovations
have made it a much more feasible choice than others. They have high energy density as compared
to fossil fuels. The amount of fuel required by nuclear power plant is comparatively less than what
is required by other power plants

Essay on Drugs and Rock and Roll
Drugs and Rock and Roll Beginning with the late 1960 s counterculture in San Francisco, music
and drugs will forever be inter linked. Hippie bands such as the Grateful Dead, the Allman
Brothers, and Phish are associated with marijuana, mushrooms, and LSD. Modern electronic rave
, or club music is associated with MDMA or Ecstasy. When one thinks of rock and roll, sex and
drugs immediately come to mind. While the use of drugs is not essential for the creation or
performance of all new music, it was certainly in important factor for the counterculture music of
the late 1960 s. While some of the most important and influential music was made with the help of
psychoactive drugs, it was often to the detriment of the artist. Janis... Show more content on

Psychedelics, and drugs in general became such an important part of life during the 60 s that it s
influence was inescapable. Nowhere can this fact be seen more clearly than in the music of the
time. The most obvious influence drugs had on music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug
references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in
the Sky with Diamonds , obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug
inspired, as Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from Aldous
Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of drug use. Even the
music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of the music by the Doors. Their
song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in
the song was probably created with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard
while on drugs. This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much
more clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of their music
is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs. Hearing one of their 30
minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that is the experience that they intended
the audience to have. While drugs were very much connected to the music of the sixties,

The Problem Of Violent Crimes
Violent Crimes Introduction Violent crimes occur more than one could even imagine. However,
there is definitely a questionable aspect to these crimes within their court procedures. If one
were to take a closer look at specific court procedures of crimes having to deal with mental
illnesses, it will be determined that it is viewed differently oppose to a sane person. When
taking mental illnesses into consideration when referring to criminal behavior, there is an
obvious difference between actions. There begins to be a question of responsibility within these
criminals. It is fair to say that there is a difference with court procedures. The imperativeness of
the courts is extremely important when referring to any case. There are biological and social
risk factors that pertain to any given case. There is a question as to if these should be taken into
consideration when enduring the court process as an entirety. By taking a deeper look at the
biological aspects within a case, the justice system will be able to give more accurate sentences.
Statement of the Problem This ongoing problem on whether or not mental illnesses along with
biological issues should be used within the court process has been constantly debated about. The
information on this subject may not always be as accurate as needed in order to make decisions
such as sentencing. The sentencing of a criminal can easily be a life changer and if it is dependent
on whether or not their mental illnesses are

The Effects Of Deafness On Deaf Children
Deafness has been viewed as a negative label regarding someone with a hearing loss. The term
Deaf is considered to be a disability solely on the fact that an individual who is Deaf is not normal
due to their hearing loss. Most individuals do not believe that there are any benefits or positives
from being Deaf, nor do they believe that a Deaf individual will ever be able to live a happy and
fulfilled life. Deaf individuals do not view themselves as disabled nor do they view their lives as a
loss, rather they view their Deafnessas a Gain. This is called Deaf Gain, meaning there are many
positives that Deafness brings to the world. According to H Dirksen Bauman and Joseph Murray,
Deaf Gain is defined as a reframing of deaf as a form of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Deaf Studies scholar Ben Bahan, Deaf people are visually oriented to the world
around them (Deaf Studies Digital Journal, 2009). Therefore, Deaf individuals are more aware of
their surroundings in comparison to a hearing individual who uses an oral language to communicate.
Using a visual based language has a Gain to the Deaf individuals perception of understanding the
world, but hearing individuals can also benefit from learning a visual language, such as American
Sign Language.
Learning American Sign Language as a second language and becoming bilingual can help brain
development as well as academic success. According to Laura Ann Petitto who is a cognitive
neuroscientist explains that, being exposed to two languages from birth and in particular, being
exposed to a signed and spoken language from birth does not cause a child to be language delayed
and confused (Petitto, 2001), rather the brain can handle dual languages. Being bilingual can
enhance cognitive development and particularly learning sign language can increase reading and
spelling scores. Petitto found from her research that children who ve had early exposure to sign
language are actually stronger readers in English than children who are deaf and who have not had
access to sign language as well as monolingual hearing English children (Petitto, 2001). Sign
language also helps individuals master spelling by fingerspelling words. Although there are many
benefits for brain

One might even question why they would be mentioned in the same context. Crime has become a major issue within today s society. It seems as though the only way to prevent most of them is to enforce the repercussions of the act and punish those that partake in it. Criminals often have motives or attributes that lead them into a life of crime. Forensic psychologyis the cynosure that brings the association between psychology and law into perspective. The term forensic is defined by The Oxford English Dictionary as, Relating to or denoting the application of scientific methods and techniques to the investigation of crime. Psychology is defined as, The scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behaviour in a given context and the mental characteristics or attitude of a person or group (OED). These terms combined form one of the newest subfields of psychology. The main objective of forensic psychology is to aid in the punishment and prevention process of criminal and civil investigations. As the field continues to expand, a plethora of careers and opportunities have and are becoming available. Of course, with anything new and/or unfamiliar, there is question of credibility and moral. The Origin Of Transatlantic Accents In The English Language Transatlantic accent had a strong resemblance to musical type of speaking compared to details that accompany the world s many leading phonetics that come from a sustained form of education. • 15. The Fairytale Of Cinderella By James Poniewozik Each and every child grows up viewing Disney movies, wearing princess gowns, and buzz lightyear suits. The parents of these children are the individuals purchasing these Disney costumes, toys, candy, and other related items for their children. Our society today accepts Disney and their culture of entertainment as a part of a child s childhood experience without second thought. Elements of the fairytale of Cinderellahas adapted over time to please the culture in which it is told; yet in today s culture, adaptation to these elements is taken to where it has never been. In The Princess Paradox, James Poniewozik says, You can have the girly dream of glass slippers and true love, these films say, as well as the womanly ideal of self determination and independence and any contradictions between them are no match for the movies magic (Poniewozik 324). Peggy Orenstein compliments Poniewozik s article because she states, The first Princess items, released with no marketing plan, no focus groups, no advertising, sold as if blessed by a fairy godmother (Orenstein 327). Poniewozik is trying to argue that films have altered the story of Cinderella in the 21st century cinema realm due to the addition of the concept of feminism, women s separation from men, and the traditional magic implemented within them. Orenstein marries these articles together indirectly by pointing out that Disney legitimately had no marketing plan, yet they continue to rake in money. The reason Disney ... As a freshman and a sophomore, Amory was fascinated by of Dick Hornby, a perfect type of aristocrat (78) with an air of elegance and style. As an upperclassman, however, Amory grew fond of Burne Holiday, an enthusiastic pacifist and socialist who seemed too eccentric to the rest of the college community. Unlike Dick Hornby, who attracted Amory s attention merely because of the impression he made in public, Burne Holiday strucks Amory because of his intense earnestness (117) and the unique path he chose to follow. This change in Amory s values thus proves that, in time, he, too, has overgrown the snobbishness and superficiality of the Princeton s student community and became more ... • 20. How Does Traditional Mexican Music Influence People s... In my personal experience, Mexican music has revolved around my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a bordertown has its Hispanic heritage. Whether I was at home, school, or even in public places, I would hear Spanish related music playing in the background. I believe Spanish music holds many values when it comes to different occasions. The musiccan manipulate the minds of its listeners using love, passion, and outstanding rhythms. After reading an article online, I can explain how three different genres of traditional Mexican music influence people s culture. The genre that most people know Mexican music by is Mariachi. Mariachi is usually played at birthday parties, quinceaГ±eras, and any other social gathering. In a Mariachi band, the member s attire consists of a Charro suit and sombrero. • 21. Separation Of Public Spaces In To Kill A Mockingbird By... The South was a volatile place when concerning the separation of the white and black communities. Laws were put into place to solidify the separation of the races while providing equal opportunity to all. However, these laws, known as the Jim Crow laws, were ratified to give the illusion of equality while allowing for separation to continue. Though the image these laws held gave the impression of equality, while the people did not hold equal status. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee explores the racial tensions of separate but equalthroughout the novel and how these ideas affected the daily lives of those who lived during this time. Separation of public spaces and the relationships between the people themselves are small examples of the realities of the laws effects on real people in the South. The Jim Crow laws perpetuated the racial tension of the South rather than alleviating the problems by sacrificing equality for the social norm of separation. The physical separation of the white and black races was of great concern in the South and how each of the races would interact with one another. This separation included preferential treatment of white individuals over their black counterparts. While the people filed into the courthouse waiting for the trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Negros, having waited for the white people to go upstairs, began to come in (Lee 186). After the Harpers Ferry revolt Brown said that he doesn t feel no guilt for his actions. He knew what people would characterize him as and he just doesn t care. He knows what affect and toll it would take on people to see their own kind to stand up and fight for equality of a different race. Most people would think he s crazy, but actually he s just trying to fight for justice to end slavery because what he believes that is right. The reason why I say he s a hero not a terrorist is because if you define a terrorist and line it up with what John Brown believes in and what he wanted to accomplish then you would think he s a hero also. Although it seems like the ultimate way that the citizens can self govern, is the jurysystem really the best way to reach a verdict in civil and/or criminal cases? Consequently, their predisposed opinion, similar to the cats on the jury in Cartoon 3 of Document E, could have resulted in a weighted outcome. Also, the fear of a wrong decision made by the jury could have motivated a juror to vote solely for the outcome most popularly desirable. For example, Document D quotes Janine Gonzalez, a nearby member of Anthony s community, as saying She (Casey Anthony) better move and move to a faraway place. Congruence of distal articular surface of the tibia, fibula, and trochlear surface of the talus aids in even distribution of weight bearing forces on the joint. Medial ligamentous structures, interosseous membrane, tibiofibular, lateral collateral ligaments, and tendinous structures assume static stabilization role of the ankle. (10,11,22). Although the ankle joint has significantly smaller surface area than the hip or knee, it withstands five times the body weight during stance in walking and up to 13 times the body weight during running (10,11, 17 19). Despite the increased weight bearing force, the tibiotalar joint is more resistant to development of primary osteoarthritis (OA). If a city is near bankrupt then it cannot provide all of the necessary items that a city needs in order to run like it is supposed to. • 32. The Environment Of An Organization Introduction Understanding the environment that encompasses an association that is vital to the executives accountable for the associations. There are a few reasons behind why understanding the environment is important. First, the environment provides resources that an organization needs in order to create goods and services. In the seventeenth century, British writer John Donne broadly noticed no man is an island. Similarly, it is exact to say that no association is independent. As the human body must devour oxygen, nourishment, and water, an organization needs to take in resources, such as, work, cash, and crude materials from outside its limits. An association can t make due without the backing of its surroundings. Second, the environment is a place of opportunities and threats for an organization. Managers must also realize that almost any environmental movement is possible to create opportunities for some organizations and threats for others. Officials should likewise understand that for all intents and purposes any ecological pattern or occasion is liable to make open doors for a few associations and dangers for others. Third, the environment forms the numerous strategic decisions that manager s make as they try to lead their organizations to success. Nature regularly puts vital limitations on an association s objectives, for instance, a firm that sets an objective of expanding yearly deals by 50 percent may battle to accomplish this objective amid a financial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But how did the experimenters know if the cells that they had created were truly pluripotent stem cells? What could these cells form? First, a bit of background information must be included about chimeras. In basic terms, a chimera contains two sets of DNA, both of which are expressed. Different sections of the chimera s body will be derived from different DNA. A good example is an individual with eyes of two different colors (one green, one blue, etc). Chimeras can be formed when two fertilized eggs fuse together at an early stage, or when an unfertilized egg or extra sperm fuses with a fertilized egg. Now the developing organism contains two different genetic codes. In most cases, chimeras are completely healthy. There is no worry of immune rejection, because the cells are joined together far before any immune system exists to reject either. Now, back to the paper. How did chimeras help the scientists identify the pluripotent stem cells they had created? The scientists obtained mouse blastocysts that had certain traits different than those in the intended pluripotent cells. These blastocysts were injected with the potential induced pluripotent stem cells, and allowed to develop to birth. In Sophoclesancient tragedy the conflicting words, actions, and ideas of Haemon and Creondevelop the king as a tragic hero through the exposure of his hubris while their interactions develop the themes of excessive pride and shifting loyalties. Haemon, his son, who s fiance, Antigone, is set to be executed for disobeying the king s decree, tries to reason with the prideful monarch in an attempt to change his fiance s sentence. He first appeals to Creon s convictions, reassuring him that he would never doubt his father s decisions: For me your judgements/ and the ways you act on them are good, (278) then attempts to get Creon to listen to advice: For any man, even if he s wise, there s nothing shameful/ in learning many things, staying flexible. . .when men speak well, it is good to learn from them (280). However his advice goes unheeded by Creon, who instead, in his pride, refuses to listen: and men my age are we going to school/ to learn what s wise from men as young as him (281). Instead of listening to Haemon s calm, reasonable, arguments Creon insults his son, accusing him of being a woman s slave and a person with an empty brain (282). Haemon eventually storms out, while Creon s pride prevents him from listening to Haemon s advice, and causes him to misunderstand Haemon s final warning: Then she ll die and in her death kill someone ... • 44. Benefits Of New Technology Mr. Ojeda 4B Mia Honrubia Technological advancements help societies in various ways, helping them grow and thrive; protecting them, providing enjoyment and improving quality of life. To determine whether or not a new technology will be implemented, a strategy known as, cost benefit analysis is applied. This analysis evaluates the costs involved upfront and over time as compared to the benefits received from the new technology. For example, the development of new types of technology to be used in medical care. New techniques may be more effective or have fewer side effects, but may be too expensive to justify replacing the current standard of care. In addition to the monetary cost there may also be negative outcomes that may pose a threat to health of our society. There has to be a balance, for the new technology to be successful. Psychedelics, and drugs in general became such an important part of life during the 60 s that it s influence was inescapable. Nowhere can this fact be seen more clearly than in the music of the time. The most obvious influence drugs had on music can bee seen in the lyrics. Drug references abound, be it Jimi Hendrix s Purple Haze of marijuana smoke, or the Beatles Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds , obviously referring to LSD. Even the names of the bands were drug inspired, as Garofalo points out in reference to the Doors: The group took it s name from Aldous Huxley s The Doors of Perception, a book about the liberating aspects of drug use. Even the music itself was influenced by drugs. Take for example much of the music by the Doors. Their song the End is a psychedelic journey in to the world of LSD. The slow beat and trippy music in the song was probably created with the use of drugs and hence is better appreciated when heard while on drugs. This is also true of the music of the Grateful Dead, although this can be much more clearly seen in their live performances as opposed to their studio work. Much of their music is geared specifically toward those in the audience who are on drugs. Hearing one of their 30 minute jams is a much different experience on drugs, and that is the experience that they intended the audience to have. While drugs were very much connected to the music of the sixties, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
